We’re Thankful This Rustic Photo Shoot Exists

Sometimes all it takes is the smallest gesture (or in this case, one beautiful autumn inspired photo shoot at Rancho Las Lomas) to remind us just how incredibly lucky we are to bring you beauty on the daily. We just thought you’d like to know how eternally grateful we are for readers like you and hope you rejoice in the fact that we’ve got the loveliest snaps from Natalie Bray Studios waiting for you in The Vault!

From Meadowsweet EventsSet amongst ancient oaks and sycamore trees, this beautiful fall editorial is romance in the purest form. We pulled every pretty touch together to create a clean and modern slate for the beautifully crafted wild florals by Best Day Ever, and the gorgeous paper textures from The Pointed Nib. By keeping the design minimalist with just glass and brass elements, we allowed all the other colors and textures to shine through and add just enough beauty without overwhelming the viewer. Natalie Bray perfectly captured the serenity and romance of the day!

A Garden Engagement in New Jersey Straight Out of Our French Dreams

Don’t worry, I was easily mistaken too. These pics are not from a romantic escape to the French countryside… they’re in our own backyard, at the Jardin de Buis in New Jersey! But between the beauty of all these images by Sophie Kawalek and this chic couple, you would think you’re a world away. Get ready to add Jardin de Buis to your must visit list pronto with these pretty pics in our Vault right here!

From Sophie Kawalek Photography… When Aileen reached out to me a few months ago to start discussing her engagement session, I was so excited for her location suggestion of Jardin de Buis – a destination wedding venue in the heart of New Jersey. Inspired by the French countryside and gorgeous unique antiques, designer and owner Andrea has created the most amazing little bit of Provence in her backyard.

Aileen, Phil and I spent a few hours wandering around the venue, taking full advantage of beautiful backdrops, lush greenery, and the gorgeous daylight. We focused on simple, beautiful portraits of the two of them, only accented by an organic bouquet and small personal details – like her amazing one of a kind peachy sapphire ring and the matching Mrs. Box she brought with her.

A Totally Chic All-White Wedding

I’m just sayin’, Morgan and Maureen are the most beautiful couple in the whole entire world. Just take one look at their incredibly chic wedding at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa captured by Lavender and Twine and you’ll agree. From the Found Vintage Rentals to the stunning TEAM Hair and Makeup looks, we’ve got it all sitting pretty in The Vault!

From Lavender and TwineI wanted to send over a wedding that I photographed in Ojai last spring that I absolutely adore. Morgan and Maureen are not only gorgeous, they are seriously two of the kindest and most genuine people that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. They planned a relaxed and low key celebration where the focus was enjoying the time with their family and friends. The vibe of the entire day was so happy and laid back…seriously a photographer’s dream!

They had beautiful details that were a mix of both feminine and masculine styling. The soft astilbe in the florals was a feminine touch, while linen and slate grey were used to pull in a more masculine touch.

From the Bride…We were lucky enough to plan the wedding of our dreams at one of our favorite places, the Ojai Valley Inn. We are so grateful for all of the amazing professionals that made our wedding so special and uniquely us, especially our incredible planner Michel of Michel B. Events, our florist Bree of RockRose Florals, and photographer Daniele of Lavender and Twine.

Surrounded by 130 of our close family and friends, we said our “I do’s” in the historic Wallace Neff courtyard with the rolling hills of the Ojai Valley as our backdrop. The ceremony was followed by cocktail hour in the terraced herb garden. The Get Down Boys provided a fun bluegrass music backdrop and were a hit with our guests. The reception dinner was held on the Orchard lawn below and was set up with extra long tables and strung with twinkle lights. DJ Wes of RedShoe L.A. Got everyone on the dance floor following our first dance and joint father/daughter dance.

It was the most memorable weekend of our lives and we can’t wait to go back to relive it every year on our anniversary!

From the Lorraine…We got married in a little town call Kennan in north central Wisconsin 58 years ago! Both Harold and I are actually from this town, but we met in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Kennan, I knew Harold’s family name, but I never actually knew Harold. He was five years older than me so I didn’t know him in grade school or high school.

I moved to Milwaukee after I graduated and Harold moved to Milwaukee after he got out of the service, which ended up being around the same time. Harold was actually living with my cousin and the two of them were really good friends! Since I was so much younger than my cousin, however, I didn’t know him very well and hence didn’t even know that he had a roommate, nonetheless that Harold was his roommate! The first time we met was actually at a dance in Milwaukee. Harold thought I was cute and the rest is history. We dated for a year and a half before Harold proposed on Valentine’s Day.

On our honeymoon we went to Yellowstone National Park and Harold told me that he had been saving 50 cent pieces, one at a time, so that he could take me on the trip! We drove out there through the Rocky Mountains and I was scared to death!

Another favorite memory we have together is our big trip to Europe. Harold was in the service in Germany, so for our 25th Anniversary we took a trip to see where he had lived. We were also able to go to Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. One of the best memories from the trip actually took place in the airport overseas — we were changing airlines and started chatting with a couple standing nearby us in line. We learned that they lived 15 miles from us in a small town in Central Wisconsin. I could hardly believe it, it was awesome! It was just a fun trip and I’m thankful we were young enough to really enjoy it.

From Lorraine’s Granddaughter, Taylor… I have looked up to my grandparents my entire life. Their selfless love for one another and everyone in their life is admirable. They are always putting others first and deserved to have time for each other to capture that love and commitment to one another. They have told so many incredible stories over their lifetime, but the most captivating is their love story.

For my family and I, we will now be able to cherish these timeless photos forever. The photos will serve as a constant reminder to strive for a beautiful marriage filled with love, commitment, and laughter. The photos will be passed down to next generations in our family for years to come. There’s no doubt that people will be able to feel and be inspired by their love without ever having met them, and that is such a beautiful gift.

3 Ways To Give Your Small Space Big Impact this Holiday Season

There’s no doubt that small space living can be a challenge, but never ever let it hold you back my friends. Cozy spaces still deserve big impact and with a few tricks in your back pocket, you’ll be wowing everyone who walks through the front door. So, get your holiday hosting hat on loves, along with gorgeous pieces from DHP, we’re walking you through the three rooms you should focus on and design tips to maximize your space. Plus, DHP is giving away a beautiful piece of your choosing to one lucky winner below—don’t miss out!

Go for Drama in the Bedroom

Think drama is only for big spaces? Think again. Incorporating a piece like a canopy bed can help to heighten your space and give your guest room the wow factor it deserves. Upholstered pieces also give the bedroom a luxurious feel that’ll make your guests ooh and ahh. Seriously, you might have to help them pack their bags when it’s time to leave!

More Easy Ways to Maximize Your Bedroom

  • Layer an area rug under the bottom half of the bed to anchor and lengthen your space even further
  • Invest in luxe bedding that gives off a hotel-worthy vibe
  • Incorporate tall greenery to liven up the room and draw the eye around the space easily

1. Soho Modern Canopy Bed | 2. Dakota Upholstered Bed | 3. Modern Metal Canopy Bed

Embrace Minimal Dining with Uber Style

A small dining space doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice style. Opt for a round table that’ll fit more organically in the space and lightweight, minimalistic seating that doesn’t overpower. Stools are a great choice too for tiny spaces and extra guest seating.

More Easy Ways to Maximize Your Dining Room

  • Open or floating shelving for decor
  • Choose lightweight furniture pieces with a sleek design that don’t overpower the room
  • Whites and neutrals to help brighten the space

1. Mid Century Modern Wood Leg Chair | 2. Chrome Leg Round Table | 3. Vienna Counter Stool

Love Your Multi-Purpose Living Room

If you’ve got a small home chances are you’ve asked yourself where is everyone going to sleep more than once. Say goodbye to your air mattress and welcome a daybed or convertible futon into your living room, the perfect alternative to a couch or sleeper sofa, with less of a footprint. Not only are DHP‘s options stylish for entertaining but they’re super functional, too, when it comes time for your guests to rest their heads.

More Easy Ways to Maximize Your Living Room

  • Give your daybed or futon a cozy feel by layering with pretty throw pillows
  • Pull your living room seating away from the wall if you can to let the piece really shine
  • Anchor your seating in the space with an area rug and/or side tables

1. Delaney Split Back Futon | 2. Soho Modern Daybed | 3. Aria Futon

A Sun-Kissed Island Celebration

Forget your average mainland celebration, because this sun-kissed ceremony in Hawaii is where it’s at. With the unbelievably talented Wendy Laurel behind the lens, it’s the ultimate wedding day that’s sure to have you setting sail. Complete with inviting yellow details and a seaside ceremony, we’ve got every bit of beauty waiting for you to favorite in The Vault!

From the Bride…Josh and his father own Maui Olive Company so most of our décor came from tree clippings at the orchard. We also used olive oil from the harvest and some delicious lilikoi butter his father makes as our reception gifts. Josh and I brined olives a few months before the wedding and jarred them, leaving them on the tables for people to nosh on or take with them. Our sign (arrows pointing to ceremony, reception, babysitting, bar, restrooms etc) was made by Josh’s dad and painted by our brother and his wife.

Pick a reasonable day prior to the wedding and decide look…whatever isn’t finished isn’t finished – and let it go. No one will be the wiser. It isn’t worth stressing or running around finishing last minute errands once your friends and family arrive. We set up a couple group events people could opt to attend (private sunset sail and a luau). Gave us a chance to see people and also a chance for our guests to meet one another before the wedding.

Give yourself at least 10-15 minutes for some alone time before the ceremony begins. And of course…savor every minute of your big day because it is going to fly. Take time to slow down certain moments and soak them in. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

Peek Inside the Most Fashionable Office We’ve Ever Laid Eyes On

A smart designer perfectly coined the combining of dream closets and stylish office spaces a Cloffice. It’s the newest trend popping up and it’s all sorts of amazing. What could be more inspiring than a rainbow shoe wall or a lineup of your favorite bags? Christine Andrew of Hello Fashion is showing us how the Cloffice is done. She combined her fashion blogging with her wardrobe housing and the result is a mighty beautiful thing. Peak inside the full space shot by Emmy Lowe, right here.

From Christine Andrew… Putting clothes together has always come naturally but for some reason interior design is way harder for me!

It was close to 2 months of trial and error before I finally settled on the full look last year, but I’m so happy with how it turned out and can’t believe how much I’ve learned in the process.

I wish I was one of those people interior design came easy to, but I love being outside my element and learning a new process! I wanted my office to have a more feminine, colorful atmosphere (the rest of our house is decorated in a lot of neutrals and greys). I love the look of white and gold (it’s nothing new, I know!) but I wanted pastel accents of blues, pinks, and coral for color and contrast.

Courthouse Elopement Inspiration Packed With Color

Styled elopements are one trend I hope never, ever leaves the wedding scene. It’s an opportunity to whisk away with the one you love, without sacrificing even an ounce of pretty found in a traditional wedding. *Enter* this inspiration shoot from A-list vendors like Bluebird Productions, Bare Root Flora, TEAM Hair and Makeup, Casa de Perrin, Little White Dress and more. See every Lacie Hansen capture waiting right this way.

From Bluebird ProductionsInspired by the colors of the American Riviera and the desire to have a perfectly intimate elopement that could then be shared, a fabulous group of vendors crafted the ideal elopement. The elopement consists of experiences at the Santa Barbara courthouse followed by a tour around town, dinner and cake in a romantic courtyard and a sunset toast on the beach. The stationery to document the day uses natural materials from an etched terra cotta menu to an “announcement” that includes rough wood, natural fibers and vows to make those that were not there feel included. Bright and cheerful flowers decorate the intentionally set table to compliment colors of the areas surroundings and add a bit of “pop” to punctuate the celebration.

Modern Mountain Wedding Set at a Distillery

With a ceremony set in the Utah mountains followed by a reception in a chic new distillery, it’s safe to say Traci and Michael’s wedding day was not your average “I do.” Instead, it’s a celebration designed one part modern and one part vintage as an ode to Traci’s love of heirloom treasures – including her mom’s lace veil. More from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography waiting in The Vault.

From the Bride…When we started talking about what we wanted for our wedding we both kept coming back to the same words, “Simple, understated, classy and timeless”. I guess you could say our wedding theme was restoration hardware meets vintage chic.

We were having a really tough time finding an outdoor venue in Orange County, CA so when Mike’s good friend, Eric Leblang who is also the F and B Operations Director at High West suggested we come look at the new HW Distillery, we did. It was love at first sight! We knew after being there for almost 4 hours and not wanting to leave, we had found the perfect place to get married!

Mike’s family has a home in Park City, which has always held a special place in his heart. The stars aligned and everything felt meant to be. We had our first look there in the backyard next to the old log cabin. Even our dog Duke came running out to be part of the pictures and celebration. It was perfection!

I grew up going to antique swap meets with my mom and sisters and just love vintage treasures. I wanted to find a way to incorporate some of these timeless pieces into our special day. My mom and I had so much fun collecting over 200 brass candlesticks for the tables, old windows to write the seat assignments on, vintage crystal for our wedding glasses and fun old linens to cover the hay bales for the ceremony.

My mom surprised me and let me wear her veil made of French lace that she had made and wore for her/my parent’s wedding over 40 years prior! We also were fortunate enough to use their cake cutter and server from their wedding day too.

Our wedding was all about incorporating little things that are important to both of us in subtle ways. On our first date we challenged each other to an artichoke cook off so we had our table numbers sitting in raw whole artichokes. Traci’s favorite color is yellow so her bouquet had hints of yellow. We literally tied the knot during the ceremony, which is symbolic to both Traci’s many years of sailing in Southern CA and also Mike’s Irish heritage. Mike loves fly fishing so all the guys had fly boutonnieres instead of flower boutonnieres.

The other thing that was really important to us was to make sure our wedding party was as comfortable and had as much fun as possible! We all know being a bridesmaid or a groomsman is an honor, however it can come with some eye rolling requests. We didn’t want that. Our groomsmen wore mismatched gray suits that they already owned and our bridesmaids got to pick out and/or buy a dress of their choice that they would love to own and wear again. This way we knew everyone would feel as beautiful and handsome as possible! When you feel good it shows and our wedding party was on point!

We feel extraordinarily lucky to have D’Arcy as our wedding photographer, Amber as our florist, Megan Zeitner as our videographer, DJ Pauly and the staff at High West to bring our vision to life! It was the Best. Day. Ever and we loved every minute!

Rustic Anniversary Session

How incredibly cute are these two?! Celebrating one year of wedded bliss, we’ve got the sweetest anniversary session to share and every single detail is total #marriagegoals. See it all captured by Jasmine Lee Photography in The Vault!

From the Bride…Zak and I went to the same dances in elementary school, became friends in high school, and finally began dating after college. It has been a long time coming! After graduating, we both moved to San Francisco, where we started our relationship. Two years later, we were off to France and Italy for our first big adventure together. As they say, if you want to know if you are compatible, set off to travel the world and see if you come back together. We must have aced the test, since on that trip, Zak proposed on the rooftop of Hotel Hassler in Rome, Italy. We stayed true to the proposal’s Italian-roots by having our wedding at Trentadue Winery in Sonoma County. It was the most incredible day celebrating with our family and friends. We could not have imagined a more amazing start to our marriage, and it has continued to grow even better since that day.

Of course, like any bride, one of the most exciting parts of planning our big day was finding the perfect dress. Not only did I find my ideal gown, but I found my dream designer in Mira Zwillinger. Her designs are ethereal and stunning, and her team is more than willing to customize any gown to fit the bride’s vision. I liked different pieces from three of her gowns, so Mira’s team worked their magic and made my dream dress a reality.

On our wedding day, we were having so much fun, it felt like the day was over in a blink. A year later, we thought it would be fun to relive our wedding bliss through an anniversary shoot. Also, we were excited to be more adventurous than on our wedding day, since staying clean was not a priority. During our anniversary shoot, we were completely carefree while dragging my gown and his suit on dirt paths, climbing up hilltops, and even lying down in grassy fields. If you are debating a post-wedding or anniversary shoot…do it!

The location and rustic theme of the shoot was inspired by Jasmine! I came across Jasmine’s work on SMP and was instantly drawn to her style of photography. She even suggested the beautiful bouquet from Twigss. Zak and I had a blast working with Jasmine and Christina (of Makeup by Quis). The day was filled with the four of us joking and laughing. Jasmine was great at giving us direction and making us feel comfortable throughout the shoot. Also, if you have not looked through the gallery yet, she made us look fantastic. Overall, it was another amazing day in our wedding attire, and we could not be happier with the results. Thanks, Jasmine and Christina!

5 Steps to a Gorgeous Thanksgiving Tablescape

I promise every time I look at a beautifully set table, I am in complete and utter awe. It’s an art really, but one that is way more obtainable than you might imagine. Most of you have a tablescape to address this coming Thursday and the ladies behind Love & Honey + Style Souffle are breaking down the 5 tricks to making your Thanksgiving look like a gorgeous Holiday Magazine spread. Plus, these tips work for any old get-together where a table is involved. See even more captured by Josh Deaton right here.

We don’t have any scientific proof per se, but we’d swear that a beautifully set table somehow makes the food taste better. A tablescape is the first thing guests see before they sit down to eat, and it’s a good way to set the tone for your entire meal.

And tablescapes are not just for weddings anymore. That’s right – in this age of Pinterest, every brunch or dinner party is an opportunity to design a gorgeous table for guests to dine upon.

So with that in mind, I teamed up with wedding planner Love & Honey, and film photographer, Josh Deaton to create a stunning tablescape that is sure to inspire you this holiday season.

With a deep love for rustic elegance, we wanted this elevated Thanksgiving dinner and table story to incorporate infinite shades of rich Fall hues. Taking cues from the changing leaves, thick Fall fabrics and wooden vibes, this intimate earthy-yet-mystical display was the perfect twist on the traditional harvest gathering.

We put together a little guide that hopefully helps you step up your game, and design a beautiful tablescape that will wow your gusts this year.

5 Steps to a Beautiful Thanksgiving Table

1. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Don’t be afraid to repeat the same element throughout your tablescape. It creates a sense of fullness and acts as a space filler without being overpowering. Too much variety on one table can be chaotic and overwhelming, so keep things simple and consistent by placing the same element in multiple places across your table. For example, we repeated tapered candles, pumpkins and a custom monogram throughout our table design to create a cohesive yet multi-dimensional look.

2. Mix & Match

Curate an eye-catching tablescape by using a mixture of textures to add dimension and depth to your overall design. Consider layering your table with fabrics such a table linen, napkins or runner. Then contrast your fabric with other finishes such woods, metals, ceramics, glass, or greenery. A good mixture is key to keeping your table design balanced. Too many metal or shiny elements can be overpowering, while only using wood could be dull and monotone. Also keep in mind that too many competing elements can seem cramped and busy, rather than layered and compelling.

3. Dress It Up

There are a few crafty tricks to dress your table up without breaking the bank. First things first, pre-set your table! Nothing looks emptier than a table without place settings. Use your dishes, flatware and glassware as a means to fill the space and create a cohesive style throughout your tablescape. When guests see your pre-set display it will immediately set an inviting tone. Secondly, don’t be afraid to use food in your design. Pre-set the table with baguettes, soup, fruit, or a charcuterie plate that guests can munch on while they are waiting for dinner to be served. It basically kills two birds with one stone as it acts as a space filler without spending extra money.

4. Hills & Valleys

Keep your table design compelling and intriguing by incorporating elements of varying heights and sizes. If your elements (centerpieces, candles, etc) are all around the same height your table will look flat and one-dimensional. Also consider the size of an object. Does it fill the space appropriately, or is it too small or too big? You want to keep the eye moving fluidly to create a sense of depth and dimension to your overall.

5. Let There Be Light

You can never go wrong with the flickering glow of a candlelight table to set the mood. It creates a calm and romantic atmosphere that guests will appreciate. This is also an area to have fun. Depending on the atmosphere and design you are wanting to create, consider candles in varying heights, widths and even colors. Don’t forget to have fun with candlestick options as well. Anthropologie is chalked full of a variety of options that will elevate any table design. Another great option to consider is using a votive and floating candle combo.
