Real Wedding: Sara and David, IV

Sara and David’s “Mexico in Iowa” wedding was all about family, friends and their incredible love. I know that sounds a little cliche, but looking through these pictures, I was so taken aback by how simple and yet totally romantic this wedding seemed…

It’s such a vibrant, full of life affair…with the homemade pies and cakes, old family recipes, the sweet flowers adorning the side of the chairs, Sara’s grandfather’s vintage car.  Every detail was brought to life in celebration of family and friends. It’s amazing.

The White Dress By The Shore, III

Katherine and Adam were married at Phipps Mansion in Cherry Creek (Denver), Colorado.

The White Dress By The Shore: The Maids

Love the colors!! The maids and mini-maids are wearing Jenny Yoo. The color is “charmed violet”. So perfect.

The little man is wearing a custom vest and tie by ‘My Big Guy’ for Annie Girl.  The mother of the bride [not shown] wore Modern Trousseau. All attire was, of course, through the lovely ladies at The White Dress By The Shore.

Thanks to Beth, Katherine & Adam, and Julie Harris Photography for sharing these photos with us!

And before we leave for the day, we want to share a few more gowns with you…

Real Wedding: Sara and David, III

As I was looking through the photographs that Sara sent me, I completely fell in love with the couple behind the beautiful wedding. They just seem so incredibly in love. In every image, they are literally glowing…

From the bride…

As writers we had exchanged many love letters in our courtship – my mom and David’s dad read excerpts from the letters in this ceremony and my best friend (since 7th grade!) sang our favorite (cheesy) song, One Hand, One Heart from West Side Story accompanied by our harp playing classmate/friend.

After the birdseed tossing, my grandpa drove us away in his classic car.

Here are more gorgeous photos, shot by the wonderfully talented Mindy Meyer (whose site is filled to the brim with eye candy)…

From the bride, Sara…

When designing our wedding, I found that I wanted a Mexico in Iowa feel. I was really inspired by loteria cards, as they are quirky and strange and beautiful. Thus, we used them in our invitations, in our programs, and in the decorations. They were a starting off point for our entire wedding style.

We wanted to keep our wedding very personal, very intimate. Our food was all made by David’s mother and grandmother from old family recipes. The wedding was held in a museum at the University that we attend that was featuring a contemporary Mexican artist, a celebration of David’s heritage. And the reception was held at a Bed and Breakfast called Montebello – which is locally owned and filled with really great Mexican design and art.Paired with the gorgeous Iowa cornfields, it suited us to perfection.

Look at the expression on this groom’s face! Brought tears to my eyes. THAT is what a wedding is all about.

The White Dress By The Shore, I

The dress … the most personal part of your wedding. So many styles. So many luscious laces and fabulous fabrics … It’s hard to know where to start. You know, the thing is, until you actually start trying on dresses, you have NO idea which silhouette, which neckline or “back-scape” … or fabric … will turn out to be THE ONE. That one dress that will make you feel better than you’ve ever felt before.

Enter Beth Chapman and her wonderful staff at The White Dress By The Shore, a special bridal boutique located in Clinton, Connecticut. Their goal is to make the day that you select your gown, as good as it gets!

The White Dress By The Shore: part I

Isn’t this gown absolutely gorgeous? From Beth … this dress is an alencon lace fit and flare gown with a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves by Anne Barge. LOVE IT. We have more photos from this wedding coming up.

Real Wedding: Sara and David

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! I am so excited about today’s featured real wedding. In a word, it’s stunning. No fuzzy adjectives or over-the-top love fests with this one. The photos tell the whole story…

There is something so beautifully simple about this wedding. The canvas itself…the gorgeous landscape, the great vintage car, the insanely lovely bride…does all the work. The perfect little details are simply icing on the cake. Just as they should be.

A bit about the bride and groom …

David and his family moved to Iowa from Mexico City when he was 15 and his father got a job in Cedar Rapids. All of his family still lives in Mexico City thus they wanted their wedding to be a celebration and a reunion for family members that haven’t been able to get together in the past few years.

Both Sarah and David are writers – graduate students in an MFA in Creative Writing program – so money was a little tight. But, where they lacked in funds, they more than made up for in creativity! We have so much more to come from this beautiful wedding…so stay tuned!

SMP Loves…Hatch Creative Studio

Genealogy Charts by Melangerie

Thanks to the recommendation from Amy Atlas, we are chatting about the amazingness that is coming out of Brooklyn-based design firm Melangerie. And, their newly launched Genealogy Charts are just so incredibly cool, I had to share…

melangerie

From the horse’s mouth…

“Wedding genealogies are customized charts, similar to a family tree, that detail the relationships of the bride and groom to all of their wedding guests. Great for the cocktail hour and receptions, these charts fill guests in on who’s a friend from childhood, a neighbor, a family member, and more.

We have three distinct chart aesthetics available in a myriad of formats. Couples can customize the chart best suited to the style and environment of their wedding, and keep the diagram afterwards as a unique piece of memorabilia. We hope you enjoy glancing through the following samples!”

melangerie

The above option is my fav…this chart features a modern design using seating information, icons, color and size of tables to denote personal connections. All information and colors are customizable. SO COOL.

melangerie

I also love this family tree style option…a design that organizes groups of friends and family by branches of categories and color. All information and colors are customizable.

If these aren’t the perfect way to personalize your wedding, I’m not sure what is! It’s also a pretty incredible keepsake that will forever remind you of those people who were there to help make your wedding the best day of your life. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Melangerie for designing such an innovative product!

Real Wedding by Boutwell Studios, III

I think I saved the best for last when it came to this wedding. The deep red and teal palette is one that I KNOW a ton of brides are after. It’s such a unique combination, but it just kind of…works.

Real Wedding by Chenin Boutwell 3

Everything about this wedding pops. From the shocks of color to the gorgeous flowers. Thank you to Boutwell Studios for sharing with us!

Joyful Weddings and Events helped to coordinate this event, while the bride and her family worked extremely hard on the designing, planning, and DIY touches that made this wedding so special.

Real Wedding by Boutwell Studios, II

As promised here are some more wonderful photos from Boutwell studios. Chenin does a great job of making the vivid colors a real focal point…such that they almost jump right off the page…

Stay tuned for more details from this wedding reception–including a very chic color palette that you won’t want to miss!

Wedding Details by Melangerie

Today’s featured Amy Atlas table had THE cutest silhouette boxes (and signage and candy bar wrappers) to add to the charm of her already perfect design and I just had to know who was behind these little gems. Turns out, it’s Melangerie…a NY based design company that specializes in bespoke gifts, chic memorabilia and event details for all types of occasions. Weddings included!

melangerie

When one of their clients wanted to surprise her friend with a flower arranging class, Melangerie crafted this handmade paper flower bouquet that announced the lessons on an attached note. So cute!

melangerie

This is probably my favorite of all of Melangerie’s featured designs…it’s a custom Spice Book designed for a woman’s 90th birthday party. The book is filled with her friend’s and family’s recipes along with a spice box containing the appropriate seasonings with which to make them. LOVE.

melangerie

This time inspired wedding invitation was crafted for a couple who met through a series of “fortuitous events.” Along with the invitation, the couple gave their guests a mixed CD of their favorite songs, all related to time.

I am so glad that Amy shared this incredible source with us! Melangerie is THE place to find inspiration for really cool, wonderfully personal wedding favors and gifts. Their capabilities are so far reaching…custom event identities, invitations, correspondence, favors, packaging and welcome gifts. The best part though is that each design is crafted with TLC and reflects the client’s personality to perfection.

Thank you so much to Amy and to Melangerie!

SMP Loves…Lillie

When I was looking around Design*Sponge the other day, I discovered these gorgeous boxes by Lillie. I don’t know exactly what it is, maybe it’s the great colors, or the modern lines. I could totally see these surrounded by gorgeous pink flowers as a fresh and totally chic table arrangement. There are tons of variations and color choices, as well as a great selection of other accessories to drool over!

Sweet Tables by Amy Atlas

One of SMP’s favorite designers, Amy Atlas, has been at it again…this time, crafting the most fabulous dessert table for the equally fabulous Wedding Library in New York!

Amy Atlas dessert table

This table was inspired by an Alan Campbell wallpaper that the Wedding Library uses and was actually filmed for a Martha Stewart show called The Art of Cakes, 2, that will debut on the Style Network on December 16. How cool is that?

Check out Amy’s website if you haven’t already. And, if you are in need of some serious wedding inspiration, some great planning tips and a handful of gorgeous wedding finds, check out the Wedding Library’s new blog!

Stay tuned to find out about the designers behind the great silhouette boxes!

Real Wedding by Lisa Vorce, IV

I wanted to share a few more pictures of today’s featured wedding, plus the details from Lisa at Oh How Charming!

From Lisa at Oh How Charming!

The draping that we chose for the dinner reception tent was such a beautiful shade of blue. It created the most serene atmosphere. We combined the soft beachy blue hues of the wedding with “beach chic” elements from Classic Party Rentals such as bamboo folding chairs, wicker chargers, bamboo flatware, and wood tables. I had Barker Decor add their amazing bamboo dance floor and stage, and my absolute favorite…7500 square feet of their sisal flooring in the tent. It was extraordinary!! The sisal mixed with the blue draping was such a gorgeous combo.

For the florals – we struggled a bit to really figure out what Courtney loved. Everything we came up with was pretty — but just didn’t have that “wow” factor. So — at the very last second — we collectively decided to change the florals (it was very exciting!) to ALL daisies. The amazingly talented Mindy Rice and I were SO excited that Courtney was daring enough to let us rock out the daisies. There were daisies everywhere! Mindy did beautifully aged galvanized buckets of daisies, and peppered in some super sweet hand tied bouquets of chamomile and feverfew. Mindy also painted all the weathered signs that we had throughout the wedding.

Carlos and Anna at Tabella did a fabulous combination of washed linen and delicate embroidered silk runners on the wood tables. They were stunning. Amy and Jeremy at Vanilla Bake Shop did yet another extraordinary dessert display and a spectacular cake!!! Everything was captured beautifully by the super talented Lisa Franchot. Aside from all the beautiful decor, the wedding was truly stunning because of Courtney and Andrew and their awesome families and friends. It was an event filled with a ton of love and laughter. We were delighted to be a part of it!

Fabulous Fashions by Coren Moore, III

Just in case you weren’t already head over heels in love with these dresses by Coren Moore, I saved this particular group for last. I know I said it once, but I am truly in love with the gorgeous color scheme and sweet sophistication of these gowns. Enough of me, I’ll let the dresses speak for themselves, enjoy!

Coren Moore Board 3

The detail work in these dresses is that perfect combination of chic without being fussy. From the subtle, scalloping on the neckline of the Francie Bridal Gown to the sweet ruffles on the bottom of the green Rose Dress. Each one is completely gorgeous in it’s own unique way!

Real Wedding by Lisa Vorce, III

Lisa Vorce of Oh How Charming! just might be my wedding muse. Every wedding that she sends me, whether it’s perfect in its feminine charm or stunning in its modern sensibility, is a reflection of who she is as a designer. Sophisticated, warm and utterly chic…

From Lisa…

Courtney originally called me from New York. During our first conversation, I fell in love with her amazingly sweet nature. When she called back the next day to book me – I was delighted! I immediately started dreaming up some design thoughts about her wedding. When I finally met Courtney and her awesome fiance Andrew, in person — I was able to immediately refine the concepts that were in my head. Their wedding is a true reflection of who they are…genuinely kind, laid back, and simply elegant.

Since their wedding took place in the gorgeous Emerald Bay of Laguna Beach — we wanted to create something that was refined and elegant, but at the same time, was able to capture the informal spirit of a beach town. Starting with their Save the Date – Courtney and Andrew chose colors that were reminiscent of the beautiful sea glass treasures we used to find as kids along the beaches of So Cal. We took that color scheme and ran with it.
