Arizona Mountain Wedding from Trevor Dayley + Butterfly Petals

Of the Jonathan Adler fans in the world, we consider ourselves pretty serious megafans here at SMP. Needless to say, when a wedding comes along inspired by Mr. Adler, we all sit in awe as we take in every image from Trevor Dayley Photography. The bride and Butterfly Petals did a phenomenal job creating a wedding that was perfectly fit for the couple – yet admired by Adler fans everywhere.

From the beautiful bride… Geary and I are both Arizona natives (a rare thing here!), so from the beginning we knew we wanted our wedding to showcase all the beauty our home state has to offer. The amazing Superstition Mountains of Gold Canyon was the perfect backdrop for our modern desert wedding. We loved that it was enough out of the city that even our local guests felt like they experienced a little getaway. We also lucked out with a beautiful year for wildflowers, which added a natural pop of color to the setting. Geary and I met in design school and are big architecture nerds, so we knew we wanted to blend our love of the desert landscape with our love of mid-century modern design. We were engaged in Palm Springs and that 60’s style architecture set the tone for a lot of our design decisions from the invitations to the vases.

With that framework in mind, we set out to weave in lots of personal details to make our wedding uniquely ours. My family collects handcrafted bronze bells by local architect and artist Palo Soleri, which over the years has led to Gearys family growing their bell collection as well. For our ceremony, we borrowed all our families’ bells and hung them in the paloverdi trees framing our ceremony lawn. The sound of those bells always makes me feel like I am home and to hear them softly ringing as we said our vows is an experience I’ll always cherish. We hung smaller Soleri bells down the aisle from shepherd hooks that Geary sprayed painted gold. We gave them to our parents and grandparents afterwards to thank them for all of their love and support. We also chose to honor our shared Irish heritage with a Handfasting Ceremony to literally “tie the knot”. I used washi tape to secure my late grandfather’s lucky penny into my strappy shoe for my “something borrowed” and wrapped the heirloom handkerchief Geary’s grandmother gave me for our engagement around my bouquet for my “something old”. We incorporated a lot of music by The Beatles to highlight our specials special moments throughout the day, because they were the songs of the soundtrack of our early years dating. We engraved “I Will” inside our rings as a nod to our first dance song and our take on the conventional “I Do”. I really love that we were able to create our own version of a “traditional wedding”.

The rest of our decor was a labor of love with our family and friends. My mom spent the entire year scouring discount shops for the perfect “Jonathon Adler-esque” vases and Geary’s mom sewed all our peach table runners. Over the past few years Geary and I have collected salvaged architectural letters in “K & G” so it was natural that we would include our monogram in our wedding. My mom and my bridesmaids stayed up well into the night the weekend before the wedding making hundreds of tissue paper tassels for garlands that I’d seen on Pinterest and just couldn’t live without. Our hotel guests welcome bags included an orange from a tree in my parent’s backyard, pistachios grown near Geary’s hometown in eastern Arizona, some of our favorite local chocolates, customized water bottles, and a “Greetings from Arizona” postcard listing the weekend’s festivities. We used a variety of Arizona postcards and mailbox for our guest book to add just a touch of Southwestern kitsch to the day. In lieu of favors, we surprised our guest with churros as a late night snack before our big sparkler exit.

Amanda Johnson with Butterfly Petals was a huge part of creating the simple, modern desert look we envisioned. She understood our vision immediately and added her unique point of view with amazing ideas involving loose succulents and air plants and interesting flowers to mix texture with soft volume. (She also, thankfully, talked me through a last minute panic of thinking I needed to add more flowers to everything) Im still in awe of the wild tendrils of blooming succulents she included in my bridesmaids bouquets. Drea Stickler of Desert House Productions was amazing and created the perfect mix of music from Motown to salsa and crooners to classic rock for our reception. One of my favorite parts of the night was our huge dance party. Everyone from Geary’s teenage cousin to our grandparents commented on how much they loved the music and it was wonderful to see everyone dancing together. Selecting vendors that you connect with and trust their style is so important and allows your entire vision to come alive. Our video from Caleb Alvarado and our photos from Trevor Dayley are more beautiful than we could have ever dreamed and will ensure that we never forget all the little details that made our day. Plus, they were just so fun to spend the whole day with, which makes such a huge difference. Geary and I couldnt have asked for a more amazing way to celebrate our next big adventure together filled with family and friends and a whole lot of love and laughter.

Bowral Wedding from Lisa Michele Burns

This is the kind of wedding that proves that fairytales really do come true.  That sparkling ball gowns, glittery gold hues and magical forest-like settings are alive and well in the wedding world.  It also proves that when a bride is as seriously stylish as this gorgeous Mrs., magical things can seriously happen. Magical things like baby’s breath-lined aisles, a candle-lit Milton Park Country House reception and chandeliers hanging from the trees.  See it all captured by Lisa Michele Burns in the full gallery.

From Lisa Michele Burns… Elizabeth and Michael were married at the Milton Park Country House in Bowral, NSW, Australia. Elizabeth spent the morning at the opulent private estate ‘Ripley’ where she got ready with her family and bridesmaids. As the wedding photographer, the day was an absolute fairytale to photograph with Elizabeth arriving in a horse and carriage up a wooded pine road and her bridesmaids carried feathered fans down the aisle with one donning a Venetian mask. The groomsmen were in top hats, held canes and wore tailcoats. The ceremony was held under a Giant Beech Willow Tree with the branches hanging down over the guests. Elizabeth named the tables at her reception after fashion designers and had a ballerina dancing during the evening before the guests all moved into the dance floor under a blooming autumn tree to party the night away.

Asian Art Museum

There are a million reasons to love San Francisco, that’s for sure; but since my introduction to the iconic Asian Art Museum, I’ve got a million and one! The stunning + sophisticated Beaux-Arts building was constructed in 1917 and renovated in 2003 by famed architect Gae Aulenti. Boasting travertine columns, carved stone arches + breathtaking, ornate ceilings, this venue is an absolute stunner.

The Asian Art Museum has four amazing event spaces as well as three floors of art galleries (couples can choose to open the galleries for their guests’ to peruse) that only adds to the elegance of this fabulous locale.  My favorite part? The modern court with clean, sleek lines and amazing glass ceilings which are the perfect juxtaposition to the classic sophistication of the rest of the museum.

And how cool is this, couples who choose to be wed at The Asian Art Museum are helping support the museum and their push to preserve and display more than 18,000 works of art and maintain this incredible and iconic building. For additional details, and to book your big day, head over here! xo

Country Barn Wedding in Galena Illinois from Lauren Wakefield Photography

I’m generally a very productive person. I thrive on to-do lists and projects, but when I come across a wedding like this one captured by Lauren Wakefield, all bets are off. I drop everything I am doing to sit and stare at the pretty, fully blaming it on the fact that doing so is indeed my job. Because this is a wedding filled with the perfect amount of pretty and the perfect amount of heart, and you can see precisely what I am talking about right here in the full gallery of images.

From the Bride… It really is a funny thing planning a wedding. As girls we always think and dream about how that day will be, what dress we will wear and what our future husband-to-be will look like. It is just something innate in us. When I met Jeremiah, my now husband, things just were different. We didn’t see each from across the room and know, we met while working in Chicago at a logistics firm and grew a close friendship talking over emails about our dreams of our futures, travel and our families. After 6 months we finally took the plunge and went on our first date and the rest is history. Being with him felt familiar and safe and warm and like a piece of me that was always missing was found. He was caring and compassionate and didn’t have a selfish bone in his body; he was so different from anyone I had ever met. When we started planning our wedding we knew we wanted it to replicate how we felt when we were together-carefree, warm and inviting.

Jeremiah and I were those nerds that started planning our wedding about three months after we got engaged. We just knew it was going to happen and I have always been an organized and chaotic nut. He was amazingly hands-on throughout the entire process from creating spreadsheets for our vendors to helping me pick out each and every decor item and dessert. It was such a blessing to have someone who was the perfect teammate!

The first and best choice we made was choosing Lauren Wakefield to be our photographer. When we met it was over a glass of sangria at a little pub in Chicago where we talked for hours like old friends. She shot our fantastic engagement photos first and made both of us feel way less awkward than we anticipated so by the time she shot our wedding it was a breeze! She has a talent that is rare to be seen, knowing how to capture the softest moments and make them feel real again when you see them in a photo. She is a true treasure and just a beautiful person inside out. I can tell you now she will be the one documenting every other important part of my life! (Sorry for your luck Lauren)

We knew we wanted a rustic outdoor setting and we loved the idea of having our guests be able to interact with the venue. We found Oak Hill after hours and hours of googling and as soon as we walked onto the property we knew it was where we would get married. The owner, Becky, was absolutely amazing and took the time to sit down with us, take a tour and detail out the best ways to handle everything. Her family had originally spent summers on the land and after several years of collecting antiques (including an amazing 1960s church that was actually moved by flatbed to their land in honor of her father) they have turned it into a one-of-a-kind wedding venue. She was an absolute Godsend throughout the process, we had to have exchanged over 200 emails in the course of a year and she made it all so much easier on us.

She gave us several referrals to local catering services, florists and bakeries which we chose with ease. Our baker, Mary did a phenomenal job on our beautiful dessert table from her homemade pies to the decadent carrot cake. They were all gone by the time I made my way over there so she must have done something right! Our florist, Jean and I also became fast friends exchanging tons of emails and calls so she could perfect our centerpieces and bouquets. She outdid herself. Not only were they breathtaking but just exactly what I was looking for.

We also found an incredibly talented band in Chicago-One, Unity Candle. They were easy to work with, so friendly and even helped us out with our ceremony music by letting one of their singers sing my favorite song ‘I Have and Always Will’ by Dave Barnes as I walked down the aisle. They got everyone on the dance floor during the reception and even let Jeremiah and the band he used to play with a few years back get on stage with their instruments! It was the best moment of the entire wedding seeing my husband sing on stage at his own wedding and we had several people tell us in the coming weeks that it was the best wedding band they had yet to see.

I was also blessed with an amazing family to say the least. My mother, sister, aunt and cousin all had big hands in creating the elegant country wedding we both so dearly wanted. They helped me spend hours upon hours creating honey jar favors, signs for the dessert table, programs and several other paper crafts. A lot of time was spent at JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels and collecting different cake plates from all over. My aunt made the sweet little gingham bow ties for the groomsmen, the flower girl baskets and several other wonderful items that were scattered all over the venue. My bridal party who are my heart and soul also did their part from helping me shop for dresses to writing out the several chalk boards I found at local flea markets to fluffing up dozens of pom-poms to hang from the ceiling of the tent.

The process of course could be stressful at times but one thing I can’t repeat enough to brides is to let each step of the way be fun, don’t get too down on yourself for forgetting something at home or getting a slightly different colored item than you thought. Also make it your own! We chose a venue that let us choose every vendor and do everything ourselves. Our wedding day went by in a blur just like everyone says it does, we even forgot to cut the cake! But it was completely magical. You don’t realize how much people truly love you and support you until they trek three and a half hours to come for your special day! Remember the most important thing is that you are marrying this person who is going to be your everything and that you will always get through every stressful part that comes up because you are in it together.

Muskoka Wedding at Sherwood Inn Wedding from Green Autumn Photography

Planning a three day wedding weekend in just three short months sounds like an almost impossible task; something only a superhero duo (aka, a brilliant bride and groom) could pull off.  Well, lovelies… meet that duo.  Two seriously smitten sweethearts who took their office romance and love of environmentally friendly weddings and crafted a day that is beyond amazing.  I’m talking fab DIY details, waterside yoga (!) and an entire gallery of lovely captured by Green Autumn Photography.  Join me there for all of the pretty.

From Green Autumn PhotographyCarolyn and Brian met through work and soon discovered they were meant to be together. Both working in the field of Ecology, having shared values to reduce their ecological footprint, and a mutual love for the great outdoors, their wedding planning and decor reflects this through DIY elements and location, while incorporating awesome style that’s full of character just like them! Carolyn and Brian are full of energy, up for anything, and incredibly fun. They planned their entire three-day wedding celebration in just three months! This was not done without the capable planning services of Holly Matrimony Weddings.

Carolyn and Brian wanted their Muskoka destination wedding to be fun and relaxing for their loved ones, which is why they planned it to be a weekend long event with all staying at Sherwood Inn where the wedding was held. The DIY elements consisted of a monogram tree design that Carolyn and Brian created together, as well as hand-painted signs on barn board, as well as the barn board podium (to become a headboard for their bed) in the reception — all handcrafted by Brian himself. Several Etsy finds were incorporated, such as the rustic wood slices as place settings, the customized bridal hanger, and a bunting thank you banner for photos that included their personal monogram design!

Their guests each received a canvas monogrammed welcome bag filled with local goodies and a monogrammed umbrella. Bridesmaid dresses were all different styles and colours. Brian’s attire was great, setting him apart from his men, and we loved their rustic and muted flowers! Getting married along the waters edge was significant, as both were raised on the water. Carolyn having grown up spending much of her time with family at the cottage, and Brian being born and raised in Newfoundland. Reverend Sue officiated the ceremony.

Audrey’s American Girl Birthday Party

My daughter’s birthday parties are always a bit, well, pink. Check out the proof here, here and here. So when time came to plan her 5th birthday and she told me she wanted an Entirely-Pink-American-Girl-Jake-and-the-Neverland-Pirates-Party-with-Puppies, well, I panicked. And did what I do best. I edited. Sort of. Welcome to Audrey’s 5th American Girl Pink Inspired Party. Where miniature food and flailing kindergardeners reign Queen. And thankfully we had the lovely Ruth Eileen to capture all of the mayhem on film. For more teeny tiny inspiration, check out the gallery!

When it came time to plan our our little darling’s American Girl party, I definitely did not come out of the gate swinging. What was an American Girl party really? Did it mean I had to replicate the American Girl experience? Like have hair braiders and stars everywhere? Then it hit me. Miniatures. It’s American Girl but also American Awesome. And I was ALL over it.

Fast forward a week or so and I was chatting with Peter Callahan  (yes as in THE Peter Callahan…I really do love my job) when I told him about Audrey’s birthday. As you know Peter specializes in the most absurdly adorable miniature versions of classics you’ve ever seen in your life. Just do a “Peter Callahan” search on pinterest or take a peak into his amazing book Bite by Bite and you will basically die. Well, if you can believe it, he offered to send us a few mini’s to help us out. And a few mini’s turned into crazy amounts of food – tiny hot dogs & hamburgers complete with tiny pieces of cheddar cheese and pickles and teeny tiny grill marks – plus miniature soft pretzels and grilled cheese and oh, um, strawberry + rhubarb pies that would bring you to tears. AND that happened to be so delicious I caught some of the grown-ups in the kitchen shoving a few in their pockets. Not really but almost.

So everything else just trickled down from here. We shipped out miniature invitations to set the mood, set up a miniature picnic for the dolls, baked up some miniature treats and sewed miniature tutus and hair bows to put in the goodie bags (thank you mama!!!). The result was a party that felt so special to the girls, that looked (and tasted) amazing to the adults and that was good ole fashion five year old fun for all.

In terms of decor it was a mixed bag. Here are some of the goodies we used:

DINNER: We set 4 IKEA Lack coffee tables next to each other with miniature chairs alongside. I invested in these a few birthdays ago and haven’t regretted it for a minute since. We added 5″ balloons, some vases filled with candy dots, these adorable trays that we found at Target, a set of striped bamboo silverware and some DIY wands. It was simple and kind of adorable. All sources are linked below for easy reference.

FOOD DISPLAY: This was our focal point. The mini foods that Peter crafted and the desserts that we filled in with really set the stage. We used an ombre backdrop that we bought a while ago from DropItModern along with 2 of our West Elm Desks (from our offices) to create the foundation. We added DIY confetti inspired garland that kind of sprinkled in the wind, along with 2 DIY signs for “Little Eats” and “Little Treats” that we’ll share with you guys coming up next.

MENU: For dinner the girls had mini versions of: hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, soft pretzels & pizzas. I placed containers of strawberries on the table to share just so that we could say it was kinda healthy. For dessert, we stuck with cake. THEN, the girls got take home bakery boxes filled with miniature treats. I didn’t want to sugar them up too much…ha!

DIY HAIR BOWS: Our activity for the party was a simple make-your-own bow station. We included pre-cut felt pieces in shades of pink that could be crafted into a bow for the big girl and bow for the little one. The girls had a blast, caught on really fast and ended up with some pretty darn cute creations.

FAVORS: I used Martha Stewarts fabric paint in a variety of colors to paint confetti dots on large muslin bags. My mom sewed teeny tiny tutus for the dolls and made a couple of ADORABLE hair accessories. We added a lollipop to the bag and voila. We also made sure to send each child home with a bakery box full of goodies to make the fun last that much longer. Miniature cupcakes from Sweet, Sprinkle cookies, miniature brownie and cookie bites, a pretty lollipop and a few strawberry rhubarb pies that Peter Made. I can’t even tell you how freaking adorable those pies were.

Coming up next we’ll share all of the fun DIY’s that we crafted!

Newport Rhode Island Wedding at Belle Mer from Kelly Dillon Photography

This adorable duo?  They have a fabulous story.  The kind of fabulous story that involves a workplace romance, a helicopter meets the Empire State Building proposal and a drop-dead gorgeous Belle Mer wedding.  A sort of movie-eque beginning with sooo much pretty, it’s like a trifecta of awesome all coming together in beautiful imagery captured by Kelly Dillon Photography.  In other words, it’s downright amazing.  See every last moment in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We were both working at NBC Sports, but had not met yet. I decided to join the volleyball team and at the first game I saw him walking across the gym. My first thought was “Wow, there are never any cute guys at company volleyball.” Luckily, he was smitten as well. After that, sparks flew!

Hector told me we were going out for a quiet dinner for my birthday. Instead we arrived at the Westchester Airport and boarded a helicopter for a sunset tour of New York City. All the way up the Hudson I was nervous thinking this could be the day. Right when we circled the Empire State Building he popped the question. I was totally speechless. The pilot said, “Was that a YES?” I snapped out of it and replied. He then took me to a restaurant where all our family and friends were waiting for a surprise engagement party. He flew people in from all over the country just for the night. Then, an acapella band came out and performed. First happy birthday to myself, our niece and my cousin, then to entertain the guests. It was an amazing engagement!

Honestly, Pinterest was a life-saver. When an idea popped in my head, I opened the app and searched. For the bridesmaids, all my ladies are different; different height, size and coloring! I thought it would be mean on my part to dress them in the same gown and colors, so we chose the best for each individual. Hector and I both knew we wanted a venue on the water, and there are few more scenic places in the US than Newport, Rhode Island. It’s just magical there. Also, the fact that Belle Mer is stunning made the decision that much more easy.

Gainesville Wedding by Amy Arrington Photography

I wish Amy Arrington could follow me around and capture all my life moments. Because her images? They are breathtaking. They have this beautiful, timeless feel, and always tell the sweetest of stories filled with moments that are completely priceless. This pretty little Georgia peach is the perfect example. Every image makes my heart sing the sweetest of songs, and you can see them all right here.

From the bride: Our wedding was held on June 1, 2013 at the First Baptist Chapel in Gainesville, Ga. The colors were champagne, white, and shades of pink. I enjoyed getting ready with my mom, sister, & closest friends in the beautiful church parlor. One special detail was my Grandmother’s vintage pins on my bouquet which I used to honor and remember her. A favorite memory of the day was playing with my sister on the couch in the parlor right before the ceremony. The harpist really set the mood for my traditional church wedding. My sweet cousin was the ring bearer, and he carried a “Here Comes the Bride” sign which will be passed down to each of my bridesmaids for their future weddings. My dad had the honor of marrying us which was a very sweet blessing! We enjoyed eating Truelove’s cupcakes before being sent off with bubbles by our best friends and family. It truly was a perfect day!

Bretagne, France Wedding from XO ANDREA

I’ll admit, sometimes my husband doesn’t love my job as much as I do. The second he walks through the door, I immediately regale him with stories of all the gorgeous weddings I came across throughout the day… and which bits of them I’m filing away for our wedding redo. And somedays, today included, the idea of a destination wedding redo gets tossed around (on my end). My husband may not love you XO ANDREA, but I sure do! Big thanks to you, Momental Designs, Meant to Be Calligraphy, and all of the other talented vendors who gave me this wedding for inspiration!

From the photographer… Corri & Alex got married just a week ago in the Bretagne in France near Rennes. They invited all of their friends & families from around the world to this french wedding with american influences. Audrey’s Miniature Birthday Invitations

You are officially invited to Audrey (my beautiful daughter’s) 5th birthday. If you’ve ever met Audrey you know that she’s quite particular and quite fabulous. So coming up with a birthday theme + invitation that could top other years and impress this little SMP-er, well, it was no easy feat. And today, we’re sharing the whole party soup to DIY nuts on the blog. Can you guess what kind of celebration started with something so teeny tiny? You’ll just have to wait and see!

Materials
Small kraft jewelry boxes (found at Michaels)
8.5 x 11″ card stock
Paper Cutter
Various scrapbooking or printed stock
Rafia
Washi Tape
Printer
Scoring Board (we used Martha Stewarts which we love)

instructions
step-1

Using photoshop, illustrator or another page layout/drawing program, format your invitation. We used 2 different fonts for our invitation and chose a bubblegum pink color. Size the printed portion to approximately 2.3″ x 1.85″ We managed to fit 16 tiny invitations on one 8.5 x 11″ piece of paper, keeping a very faint pink line around each invitation so as to note where to cut. Print them out.

step-2

Using a paper cutter (or scissors and a really steady hand), trim your cards down to size.

step-3

Trim your “envelopes” by cutting down your scrapbook stock (the one with the fun print down) to 5″ x 5″ squares. Using your bone folder, crease the pointed edges so that each crease slightly overlaps the other creases. You’ll have to use the guide lines on the bone folder to really get this right. Here is a visual that helps illustrate what I mean. After you have the creases, cut out the small triangles noted in black on the illustration.

step-4

Place your invitation inside your envelope and secure with washi tape. Fill your box with rafia and place your invite & envelope inside. We added a cute personalized label to the top by printing little pink squares onto 8.5 x 11 full page label paper then trimming down to size.

Long Island City Wedding from Christina Szczupak

The vision behind this New York day was perfectly simple: a minimalist approach to the traditional Hindu affair with whites, golds and greenery galore. A sort of urban garden party, if you will. And with The Foundry serving as the perfect backdrop, Naturally Delicious coordinating behind-the-scenes and Christina Szczupak capturing the day, it’s no wonder this gallery is chock full of cultural gorgeousness.

From the Bride…Munish asked me to marry him on a beautiful spring day in the most charming brick-walled garden in the West Village. Eleven months later, after five years together, we were married in an intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family at The Foundry in Long Island City, New York. I fell in love with the space at The Foundry even before seeing it in person. The atmosphere so perfectly fit with our vision for the day, and it also reminded us of the garden where we were engaged. I envisioned our wedding as an urban garden party with touches of the exotic, and we worked to create the perfect environment to merge Munish’s Indian heritage with both my upbringing in the Virginia countryside and our life together in New York City. Munish and I walked down the aisle together and met our four parents at the altar, or mandap, where we all exchanged hugs before beginning the Hindu ceremony. While Indian weddings are often extremely colorful with ornate decorations, we decided to take a more minimal approach, using a muted color palette of whites and golds with an abundance of greenery.

We wanted the mandap to look very organic, and our florist Ariel Dearie perfectly executed our vision with the structure she created from wood and delicate branches. We decorated The Foundry’s entrance with lanterns and vintage brass trays that I purchased from Etsy and eBay, and placed napkins screen printed with gold South Asian-inspired motifs at each table setting. We gifted Indian hand-carved woodblock stamps to our guests at the end of the evening, as well as CDs we made with songs important to our love story. Munish and I used deckle edge Italian stationary to create our programs, and we added our names with a beautiful stamp designed for us by Meagan Tidwell. Her calligraphy that graced our invitations, place cards, table numbers, and menu items added the loveliest touch to our wedding. She also created beautiful signs for our bars explaining our specialty cocktails: mine, a Pani-Puri Margarita, and Munish’s, a Perfect Manhattan. Shannon at Naturally Delicious worked with us to create a menu that reflected a wonderful fusion of Indian food and fresh, springtime Western dishes.

After dinner, our friends performed a Bollywood-style dance that they choreographed for us, which kicked off a dance party that lasted well into the night. Our fantastic photographer Christina Szczupak, who I am lucky enough to count as a great friend, captured our day with such a keen and beautiful eye, and Tree of Life, our videographers, created a film that perfectly reflects the spirit of our day.

It’s probably not the biggest shocker in the world that proposals make me happy – I do spend my days gushing about love and marriage. But there is just something so so special about that little question that often happens on one knee. And when it all happens in the gorgeous Central Park with Katie Markquart Photography snapping up every every heart-warming moment – that’s when you simply can’t help but smile. See even more right here.

From KatieOlivia and Ethan were visiting New York City from California when Ethan asked Olivia to marry him. Central Park had special meaning for the couple since that was the place they first said “I love you”. Ethan contacted Katie Markquart Photography to capture the proposal and then they took engagement photographs directly afterwards. It was a gorgeous spring day and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The park was the perfect compliment to the couple as it was filled with light and beauty that day.

Pennsylvania Wedding

Rustic farm weddings are sort of the bread and butter of SMP. They’re part of what put us on the map in the early days yet continue to resonate with readers time and time again. So when we come across these sorts of affairs today, we look for that special something. That “it” factor that makes a wedding stand out in the crowd. And thanks to Oleander Florals, these Pennsylvania nuptials stand out in the prettiest of ways. Clear that schedule and prepare to swoon.

Michelle and Brent’s stunning Rodale Farm wedding was such a joy to be a part of. They used a natural palette of woods, greens, creams and soft blues to blend in with the rustic setting of the farm. The amazing hanging Edison bulb installations used olive and eucalyptus branches dripping with light bulbs to create an amazing ambiance in the reception barn, along with custom chalkboard signs and natural soft sheer curtains framing the dining area.

Cherry Buttermilk Pancakes with Chocolate Drizzle from Jillian Guyette

We’ve featured a ton of really fabulous recipes in SMP Livings past, but I have to admit that none of them have tempted me as much as this one. Pancakes already rank high atop my list of favourite treats, and that’s without the addition of cherries, chocolate and sea salt. My mind almost can’t even handle all of the delicious! Thanks to Jillian Guyette, it’s fair to say that my hips will be slightly larger in the coming days.

From the photographer… Christian & Shasta met in 2010 in San Francisco, and had a long distance relationship until late 2011 (Groom lived in SF and bride lived in Santa Barbara). Christian moved to Santa Barbara in early 2012 and proposed to his amazing girlfriend on January 4, 2013. They are a fairly simple couple but love quality and live a fulfilling lifestyle. They opted to have a big honeymoon in September 2013 in Portugal and Ireland, hence the smaller wedding at his family’s orchard in San Luis Obispo.

Venice, California Engagement Session from Ashley Kelemen Photography

Some days I can be a bit of a plain Jane in the wardrobe department. Opting for “safe” over “stylish” in fear my fashion risk will flop. But today, I’m taking cues from this California bride-to-be. She’s got style for miles and can rock a stripey dress like you wouldn’t believe. So let’s ditch the stretchy yoga pants and indulge in this fashion-heavy e-sesh from Ashley Kelemen Photography, shall we?

From Ashley Kelemen PhotographyAllison & Justin live in downtown Venice, CA, so we met up to explore the area for their engagement session. We explored Abbot Kinney, visiting their favorite haunts and the places where they fell in love. These two are an incredible pair: Allison is a groundbreaking entrepreneur in the fashion industry, plus she and Justin make music together.
