John and I are having a September wedding in Northern Virginia when the weather is still warm, but the eaves begin to pick up their autumn hues. Using this transitional time as inspiration, I am envisioning rich chocolate and raspberry colors, accented with citrusy orange and green throughout our wedding. Peculiar Pair Press expresses a modern romanticism in their designs that I could design my whole wedding around. Please pick me!

Blog Love: Artfool

Since we have so many real weddings coming up this week, I thought that we could do something a little different for the rest of the day. I’m sure that it’s pretty clear by now that I truly heart our Little Black Book members. Their work is always so exciting to me. Not to rub this in anyone’s face, but to spend my mornings eating up all of the real weddings, the amazing creations, the endless inspirations that they send me is, well…it’s pretty great.

What I don’t get to do nearly often enough however, is to peruse the Little Black Book member’s blogs. So, that is just what I did this morning. And man-o-man…there is some pretty incredible content out their, waiting to be devoured.

Take Artfool for example…

Fourth Of July Weekend Wedding on Long Island

Amanda at Orchard Cove Photography sent us several fun weddings from this past summer, and it was SO hard to choose just one to show you on today’s Little Black Book Blog. (I even resorted to asking her to help us choose!) But, as any great photographer would  say … she couldn’t! There is just no way to choose a favorite when you’re blessed to be in this industry that is filled with so many unique couples with such great personalities. So, we’ll just have to keep the other weddings for a later date … and urge you to visit Amanda’s website and blog to feast your eyes upon so many more creative weddings and detail shots.

Today’s LBB Real Wedding: Ben and Hedda, Greenport, NY in July 2008: from the bride … Ben and I were married on the North Fork of Long Island.  We wanted a Fourth of July weekend-wedding where our friends and family would feel relaxed and happy. Our wedding was small, about 80 people, no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Orchard Cove Photography North Fork Long Island

We picked sunflowers … this was the first and easiest starting point. The sunflower is simple, but brilliant. Our friend, Sarah, did an amazing job with the flowers!

North Fork Long Island New York Orchard Cove Sunflowers

Our invitation invited our guests to join us “on the lawn”.

Coliseum Catering specializes in Fourth of July BBQs, and we served huge ice cream sandwiches for dessert. They’re Biggy Iggy and Chewie Louies! Ben and I discovered them in New Hampshire and have deemed them the most amazing ice cream cookies EVER. We also had a fabulous local “Newgrass” band, Astrograss.

Casual Long Island North Fork Fourth of July Wedding

Our wedding goal was to simplify….. I think we pulled it off!

Well, Hedda and Ben may have simplified, but I can’t imagine a more beautiful wedding.

Amanda, a Connecticut and Vermont based photographer, traveled to Long Island to photograph Ben & Hedda’s wedding.  Thanks Amanda for sharing their special memories with us.

Definitely worth a visit!

Hi SMP readers. I’m so excited that Abby invited me to be a guest blogger on Style Me Pretty! I have been a great fan of her blog and am honored to contribute. I aim to provide you with inspiration, ideas and innovation in the world of weddings and invitation design every month.

I apologize for missing the 15th last month, but I have a really great excuse! I’m proud to announce that I just moved my design studio into a beautiful new showroom located in the heart of Chelsea in New York City. It was a major project (moving from a 500 sq ft space to a 2200 sq ft retail showroom!) but all the hard work was truly worth it. At the same time, I launched luxurious letterpress stationery boxed sets and a new ready to order invitation collection, called Ceci New York White Label Collection. It’s  created for those who require instant gratification and faster turn around times. Now you can receive the same premium signature Ceci style, high design, and luxurious quality faster than ever before!

Here is a peek at the new studio…

Southern Inspired Wedding Invitations

I actually fell in love with today’s featured wedding because of the invitations. As it turns out, Bonnie designed them herself! First, the pictures…

wedding invitations

From Bonnie…

I am a graphic designer so I designed the invitations and other details. The invitations arrived in green recycled paper boxes and inside, the cards were placed on top of hay. They were letter-pressed with different illustrations from the farm.

Thank you SO much to Bonnie and Trevor for inspiring us to no end. Your wedding is one that will go down as one of Style Me Pretty’s best! And, to Mary Claire for the absolutely stunning photography and Elizabeth James for helping to plan a really beautiful day!

Real Wedding: Bonnie and Trevor, V

This next set of pictures from Bonnie and Trevor’s Nashville wedding is pure deliciousness. They look like they are right out of some fabulous movie…

The entire wedding just seems so alive, so completely down to earth. Here are a few more details from Bonnie…

At the reception we really used the farm aesthetic, but in an elegant way. There were long tables in the tent which were topped with burlap. Down the tables were a mix of peonies and dahlias in various silver julep cups mixed in with chicken feeders, with wheat grass growing out of them. Everyone feasted on a big southern supper – chicken croquettes, green beans, cheese grits and bbq in corn meal crepes – just to give you a taste.

We danced the night away then pulled away on the hay wagon as guests waved sparklers!

Stay tuned to hear about Bonnie’s gorgeous invitations…that she designed herself!

Real Wedding: Bonnie and Trevor, IV

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times…it’s ALL in the details! Bonnie did such a fabulous job at bringing a bright, colorful palette together into a cohesive and lovely look. She incorporated the horseshoe to perfection and brought along the lovely Southern touches with a sense of charm and sophistication.

We have so many more photos coming…so stay tuned!

Real Wedding: Bonnie and Trevor III

If you are just now popping in, we are featuring Bonnie and Trevor’s lovely, lovely, lovely Southern inspired wedding. Bonnie brought such sweet, approachable details into her wedding…from handmade invitations to custom built signs, the whole day was a reflection of this ridiculously cute couple.

All of the photographs from this wedding were captured by Mary Claire Crow, who Bonnie just raved about. The next set of pictures from this wedding is my absolute favorite so you definitely have to come back and check it out.

Oh…and if you haven’t already, you HAVE to head over to the Little Black Book Blog today, as we are featuring the prettiest wedding shots by Paul Rich. The bride talks about how SMP inspired her to design a wedding that really represented her and her fiance…love that!

Real Wedding: Bonnie and Trevor, II

Here are a few more pics and details from Bonnie and Trevor’s absolutely perfect Southern inspired wedding…

From the bride, Bonnie…

Everyone arrived to bluegrass music from some local musicians and the ceremony was held in a grassy area behind the house. After the ceremony guests gathered at the back bar (an old wagon we covered with wood & ticking) for some champagne or a pimm’s cup (a staple cocktail in our house!). Then everyone walked up the lane to the barn for the reception. We have horses on the farm and my father really wanted to use them so my husband and I rode up in a horse drawn wagon while the bridal party rode on the hay wagon.

So much more to come!

Real Wedding: Bonnie and Trevor

I don’t talk much about myself here on SMP…I am so enamored with all of the stuff that you guys are doing, I tend to leave myself out of the mix. You guys know that I just had a little girl, Audrey. That I live in Boston. That I have the best job in the world. But, another little piece of my soul, that really helped to form who I am today…are the four years that I spent in Nashville, Tennessee going to college.

So of course, anytime I see a Nashville wedding, I am taken right back to those incredibly blissful days, where I just had to wake up in the morning to see my best girl friends, where we sat on a porch drinking lemonade (okay, not really lemonade but it sounds a little better that way), wasting the day away in the lazy Summer sun.

Today’s featured wedding is so wonderfully Southern, so perfectly Nashville. I just had to share!

From Bonnie, the gorgeous bride…

I got married in May on my parents farm where I grew up. We really wanted a creative & festive, southern affair with lots of personality. Plus I am a graphic designer so I designed the invitations and other details (more on the invitations in a bit).

Guests drove up the driveway greeted by “burma-shave” signs. My mother’s friend is an artist and created them for us – they were a huge hit! There were 6 signs…”Winding Road, Fresh Green Grass, Musicians Play, Oh Happy Day, To Wedding Vows, That Last”

more to come!

Real Wedding From The Paul Rich Studio

You all pretty much know how and why we at Style Me Pretty do what we do … and when we started the Little Black Book (of Very Important Vendors) we hoped we were furthering our cause.  So, when we saw today’s featured wedding from Paul Rich, and we read the bride’s story, we knew we had hit a home run! It’s the kind of story that makes us feel so proud of what we do!

Kylene (today’s bride) wrote … We are so excited!!  I have been a long time reader of Style Me Pretty, long before I was even engaged.  The style and inspiration I found on the site matched so closely with my dream day.  The Little Black Book feature was also such a help as I trusted the recommendations I found there, saving me tons of time and energy. I am absolutely thrilled to share our wedding with other Style Me Pretty readers!

Kylene and Jacob from Paul Rich Studio

The wedding…..Literally within a week of getting engaged, my groom and I had excitedly finalized many of the important wedding decisions including the location, the day, and the caterer.  It was easy, as we both knew exactly what the day was about—celebrating with our family and friends.  We wanted the day to feel inviting and relaxed, and most importantly wanted our guests to truly enjoy themselves.  In a sense we wanted them to feel like they were at a big, fancy picnic!  It also helped that I’m a bit of a wedding blog fanatic and have been reading blogs and magazines for years just waiting for my day!

Kylene and Jacob at Kruger Farm

It was so easy to picture our perfect wedding day thanks to so many of the inspiration boards and real weddings I had been swooning over on wedding blogs like Style Me Pretty.  We chose Kruger’s Farm, a small farm we adore, for both the ceremony and reception as Jacob and I had spent many afternoons there picking berries, taking hay rides, and strolling through pumpkin patches.  The farm provided all the elements we were looking for: a quaint farm house to spend the morning in, a century old oak tree to have the ceremony under, flower fields and berry patches for guests to wander through, and a large field to accommodate our lawn games.

We wanted our wedding to be very personal and meaningful and planned and arranged the majority of the elements ourselves.  My mother, who passed away 5 years ago from breast cancer, was an amazingly talented and whimsical decorator and florist.  As a child I spent my days in her flower shop making bouquets out of dried up flowers from the floor so it was very important to me to design and make many of the details myself.  I designed and printed all the invitations and paper products; created little details like cocktail flags and a personalized coloring book for the kids; used vintage table cloths for the tables and a collection of new and antique dessert platters for the dessert bar which had mini cupcakes, tarts, and cakes; and sewed a floral backdrop for our Polaroid guest book and personalized labels into all the wedding attire.  With the help of several important women in my life, we also made all the floral arrangements and bouquets with flowers ordered online and hydrangeas and roses from my grandmother’s garden.  The whole affair was a true labor of love as I found meaningful ways to incorporate my mom’s spirit in our day.  I also wore earrings and a bracelet from her vintage jewelry collection and shared several other pieces with my aunts and grandmother.  Attached to my bouquet was a locket with her picture.  Many of our guests remarked at how the wedding celebration was “so us,” exactly what Jacob and I had hoped for.

Real Wedding Kylene Jacob from Paul Rich

Most importantly, our wedding day did end up being so much fun!  My bridesmaids and I arrived on a tractor driven by Farmer Don, the farm owner, and the over 20 children had a hay ride after the ceremony and then their own play area.  Our adult guests enjoyed cocktails on the lawn while playing croquet, bocce ball, horseshoes and cornhole.  It was a blast to see people actually playing on the lawn!  Our friend’s soul/R&B/funk band, Excellent Gentlemen , also played late in the night.  There wasn’t one detail I’d change!

Our guests were able to enjoy many of the farm’s specialties including boysenberry jam favors, homemade farm salad dressing and honey in their out of town gift bags, and blueberries to pick right off the vine as they walked from the old oak tree to the field for the celebration.  To carry on the picnic theme, and celebrate my Texas upbringing, we feasted on cedar plank salmon grilled on site, BBQ brisket, potato salad, and a slew of other picnic worthy treats from Vibrant Table Catering and Events .  It was delicious!

And this is the part of Kylene’s story that we loved …

When it came time to select our photographer I instantly turned to the Little Black Book on the Style Me Pretty site.  From months of reading the blog, I knew that SMP fit my wedding style.  It was such a helpful way to narrow down my choices.  I called up Paul Rich Studio and quickly had a meeting with Paul and Holly.  The Little Black Book was spot on!  In fact, I signed a contract with Paul Rich right then, before meeting with anyone else, as I knew it was a perfect match.  Paul and Holly Rich were so warm and personal but also extremely professional.  They understood the personal elements of my wedding and ensured me they would capture every detail.  They also work as a team and could offer double the coverage.  I am so impressed with how their photos captured the feel of our day.  They’re dreamy in my opinion!  Thank you Little Black Book!

Thanks Kylene & Jacob … and Paul and Holly! For us, this is what it’s all about !!

PS: Just a quick postscript to the details that Kylene shared with us today. The wedding location, Kruger’s Farm & Market is located on Sauvie Island, 12 miles from downtown Portland at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. It is owned by “Farmer Don” who writes: I own and operate an eighty acre farm … visit my farm and you’ll find a busy farm store, u-pick berries, u-cut flowers {you can cut your own wedding flowers!} concerts, weddings, birthday parties and a wonderful pastoral place to dream away a summer day.

Kruger's Farm Market

We also noticed that right now Kruger’s has farm-raised Christmas trees, baskets, jams and jellies and 20% off everything in their store! Wish we lived near Portland!!
