An August Wedding At Lake Placid NY

It’s no secret by now … we LOVE Daria and Andy Bishop’s photography!

We featured Amanda & Jeff’s gorgeous Shelburne Farms wedding just a couple of days ago along with some great reasons on the decision to have a “first look”. If you haven’t already seen it, take a peek!

And back in February 08 Abby featured another of Daria’s weddings … one that a loyal Style Me Pretty reader, Robyn, sent in. Robyn & Keith’s wedding took place at The Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield, Vermont. Robyn said that she had always considered herself fairly creative, but it wasn’t until planning her own wedding that she realized just how much she could do, herself! Here’s the first of the posts from that day.  For lots of DIY ideas, be sure and read Part II and Part III. By the way, the color palette was rich! Apple green (chartreuse), deep purples, browns, and ivories. Rich.

So moving on to today’s featured wedding … when we saw Brandi and Marty’s Adirondack wedding on Daria’s blog, our list of photo requests was a mile long! (Andy actually said we were like kids in a candy store …) We have lots of delightful shots from this wedding, and there are tons more on Daria’s blog!

Doesn’t Brandi look like she’s just about to burst with excitement?

Wedding Anticipation Brandi Bridesmaids Trolley Ride

Such a doll! I’ll bet this little girl feels pretty important right about now.

Brandi and Marty were married at St. Agnes, an incredible Roman Catholic Church in Lake Placid, NY.

The photo of Brandi (above) won 2nd place in the “Bride Getting Ready” category of the Wedding Photojournalist Association’s quarterly contest! Way to go Daria!

Daria Bishop Sunshine Yellow Color Palette

I think Abby and I were having one of our same color karma days today! Her featured wedding (Julia & Brian) also showcases a yummy yellow color palette. Sunshine, joy, happiness … a perfect wedding color!

Now, a word about baby’s breath. Tons of people say they don’t care for it … but when it’s used like this … mmm … gorgeous.

If you’ve been following our Little Black Book Blog for long, you know I love a great ring shot … (and precious “mini-maids”).

The reception was held at the Lake Placid Club Golf House (said to have the most beautiful view of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks, with an open-beamed ceiling, a massive stone fireplace & magnificent antler chandeliers).

So, what else can we say? Brandi and Marty, you guys had an awesome wedding. And Daria and Andy, you guys rock!

Real Wedding: Julia and Brian, II

We are featuring the loveliest wedding today, sent to us by the wonderfully talented Ingrid Nelson of Myrtle and Marjoram. There is something to subtly beautiful about this particular wedding. Maybe it’s the perfect bride or the sweet, but simple wedding style.  Maybe it’s the sophisticated color palette, paired with the warmth and approachability of the outdoors…

So much more to come!

SMP Loves…Southern Weddings!

A huge congratulations to Southern Weddings for launching their first (absolutely, positively gorgeous) print edition! If you haven’t already, you really HAVE to go pick up a copy of this stunning magazine. If not for the pages upon pages of wedding eye candy, you can also read a little blurb about Style Me Pretty!

Real Wedding: Julia and Brian

It just occurred to me that we have been doing real weddings pretty much every day lately. And it’s been pretty great…so I figure, why change a good thing?

One of SMP’s very favorite photographers, Myrtle and Marjoram, sent us today’s featured wedding and based on some of the weddings they’ve sent us in the past, it’s not surprise that this one is absolutely beautiful…

myrtle and marjoram

This wedding reminds me a little bit of yesterday’s featured affair…a modern sensibility with touches of pure charm. The yellow is such a happy hue, but paired with the sophistication of black and white, it’s contemporary, it’s smart, it’s simply beautiful.

So much more to come!

Real Wedding: Jonathan Canlas, VII

Thank you so much to Jonathan Canlas for sharing this lovely wedding with us. The bride is just possibly the cutest bride I have ever seen. And the wedding style, well…it’s very SMP. Chic, approachable and filled to the brim with personality.

Real Wedding: Jonathan Canlas, VI

I generally don’t write 6 or 7 posts on one particular wedding…it’s hard to find THAT many gorgeous pictures. But today is different. Jonathan Canlas snapped some of the most lovely pictures that I simply couldn’t decide which one’s to share…

jonathan canlas

We have even more pics on their way, some fun detail shots and a few more of this beautiful couple!

Real Wedding by Jonathan Canlas, V

Okay, I promised you a list of vendors from today’s FAB featured wedding and here it is! Of course, if it weren’t for the photography of Jonathan Canlas, we wouldn’t be devouring this amazing affair, but there were a handful of other vendors that worked behind the scenes to make it so ridiculously beautiful…

jonathan canlas

The incredible florist was Amanda Johnson of Butterfly Petals, the cake was designed by Nancy Ray. The bride’s absolutely gorgeous dress was found at Jewel Couture, though sadly it seems that she isn’t taking on any additional clients. Let’s hope she changes her mind soon! The Veil and Jewelry were crafted by Meghan Lawloer. Oh and the couple also had a Photo booth which was provided by ScrapBooth.

Still more to come from the reception!

Real Wedding by Jonathan Canlas, IV

There are so many things that I love about today’s featured wedding shot by Jonathan Canlas. The bride is impossibly chic, the colors are bold and modern, the style is both approachable and undeniably sophisticated. The whole wedding feels relaxed and intimate and yet totally fresh, something that is hard to achieve.

jonathan canlas

Stay tuned to see who the vendors were that helped craft this lovely affair!

Real Wedding by Jonathan Canlas, III

The wonderfully talented Jonathan Canlas sent us pictures from today’s featured wedding and the moment that I saw them, I jumped at the chance to feature them on SMP. I really don’t need to blab on and on, so I am just going to dive right into the gorgeous photographs!

So much more to come (and I mean so much more)!

Wedding Food at it’s Best…

We get a lot of inquiries from brides who are looking for a bit of help in working with their caterer to design a unique and interesting menu. Well, we scoured our image galleries and found some pretty incredible ideas that will most definitely wow your guests…

Top Row: Justin Marantz, First Class Weddings / Middle Row: Holland Photo Arts / Bottom Row: Bella Rose, Holland Photo Arts

Here are some quick tips…first and foremost, plan your menu based on foods you love. After all, your wedding is a reflection of who you are as a couple and your guests will delight in getting to know you through all of your little details. If you are true foodies, go for something really unique and interesting. If you are a casual couple, think about a fun, whimsical spread like this…

In terms of presentation, simplicity is king. Whether you are working with a large buffet spread, a seated dinner or heavy appetizers, stick with clean, simple displays. You can’t go wrong with classic dishes presented artfully on perfect white plates…

And finally, when it comes to the last course (and some would argue the best course), dessert is a fun way to bring a little bit of personality to your style. You definitely don’t have to stick with a standard wedding cake. If you don’t like wedding cake, skip it! If you LOVE dessert, like we do, offer your guests some fun alternatives along with a wedding cake. The options are endless!

Thank you so much to all of the vendors who worked with us on this feature! And, make sure to check out our Little Black Book caterers (using the quick pick list) for even more menu and presentation ideas!

Real Wedding by Jonathan Canlas, II

Today we are featuring the fabulously chic wedding that Jonathan Canlas sent us…with its oh-so-sophisticated bride, its gorgeous black and green color palette and its perfect little details. Here are a few more pics for you to fall in love with…

jonathan canlas

This gorgeous wedding took place this past November in Mesa, Arizona at the LDS Mormon temple with the reception following at the Wright House reception center.

Here are a few quick notes from Jonathan

The family and guests were trolleyed to and from the reception site to the temple.  The reception at the Wright House began with the family enjoying insane authentic Mexican food. There were several little kids who were flower girls or “mini” groomsmen.  At one point, one of the nephews got up on the stage during the toasts and sang the national anthem impromptu. So cute.

So much more to come!

SMP Loves…Holland Photo Arts!

Here is the deal…our wonderful friends at Holland Photo Arts had these gorgeous calendars designed as holiday gifts for their friends and colleagues. When I saw the bride in today’s featured wedding, sent to us by the ever talented Jonathan Canlas, I fell in love. She is so SO chic. So completely gorgeous. I have a ton of pictures to share with you, along with some pretty great details but first, I wanted to post a look at this fabulous couple…

jonathan canlas

Don’t you love her? That dress. That veil! One part oh-so-fresh, one part vintage charm. I love every bit of this bride’s look. And, just wait until you see the rest of the gorgeous pictures! Back in a bit.

Real Wedding: Elizabeth & Ryan, V

Michelle Mastrion of Ooh Events in Charleston is here to share a few more of the fun details behind today’s featured wedding…

From Michelle

Another beautiful October wedding in Charleston. The ceremony was held The Cotton Dock at Boone Hall one of our favorite venues because you can do ANYTHING you want (like put nails and staples in the walls!).  We loved using the vintage cake stands for the Venetian dessert table, as well as charming little touches like the owl and birds. We also carried the vintage style to the tabletop with flowers in vintage apothecary jars. It was all together beautiful.

The wedding was designed and created by Lisa Thomas, the owner of Ooh! Events and the photographer was Heather Forsythe.

It is so clear to me that the bride and groom behind today’s featured wedding, really allowed their own unique style and personalities to dictate their day. From the demure, but incredibly elegant wedding gown, to the whimsical details and approachable style, everything about this wedding is intimate and personal. Here are a few more pictures…

Today we are featuring an absolutely lovely, completely charming wedding by Ooh Events out of Charleston, SC. The venue, Boone Hall, is one of the oldest working, living plantations and the grounds were inspiration behind two of my all time favorite movies…Gone with the Wind and (ahem) The Notebook. So of course, I am in love.

‘First Look’ from Daria Bishop Photography

We are so excited about today’s Real Wedding! It’s kind of a double-hitter from our Little Black Book …

Daria and Andy Bishop have been so good to us by sending lots of real Style Me Pretty “style” weddings. You’re going to be seeing lots more from them here on the LBB blog!! But, we’d be remiss if we didn’t start off with their photos from Amanda & Jeff’s wedding. Amanda and Jeff Herzberger of Orchard Cove Photography had their own gorgeous wedding this past July at Shelburne Farms, Vermont.  And when one great photographer weds, who does she ask to capture her special day? Why, another Little Black Book member, of course. Enter, Daria Bishop Photography!

Amanda and Jeff’s first look photographs …

First Look Photos From Daria Bishop Photography

Seeing this hug … well, I honestly can’t imagine a more magical moment …

Jeff and Amanda Daria Bishop Photography Hug

First looks … to see each other on this momentous day, before that walk down the aisle …

Now, you know that one of the questions you too will face when planning your wedding photography is whether you do (or don’t) want to have that first look alone. Seeing each other before the wedding is a hot topic. Some couples are vehemently opposed to it while others have now started thinking, hmmmm, well, maybe…?

Before you decide, talk to your photographer and really listen to the pros and cons. Talk to other couples who have taken the high road and decided to experience this moment privately. I seriously doubt that you will find many, if any, who wish they hadn’t.

And now, more from Amanda and Jeff’s wedding …

Amanda & Jeff's Wedding Day At Shelburne Farms Vermont

I love the shades of blue they used … such a natural pop of color. And the Vermont countryside … wow!

Talk about a pop of color. How much better does it get than beside a red barn?

It just looks like a wonderful location, time of year … lovely people … everything a wedding should be!

Congratulations to Amanda and Jeff from all of us at Style Me Pretty!

And a huge thank-you to Daria and Andy Bishop, today’s Little Black Book featured photographers. Your passion for wedding photography is soooooo evident in your work !

Visit their website and blog to see tons of weddings with tons of special details that will truly inspire you.

Amanda wrote a tremendous post about the “first look” photography decision on her blog at Orchard Cove Photography. If you are on the fence … at all … you really need to read it!

Real Wedding: Elizabeth and Ryan

It seems like in the last 2 years, I’ve attended more weddings than I have in my lifetime. Eight of my girlfriends got married and this summer we already have weddings booked for April, May and June. The busy wedding schedule actually fits perfectly with Style Me Pretty, so I have loved every minute of it.

One of the weddings that I am most looking forward to is my oh-so-cute, soon-to-be, sister-in-law’s, who is getting married in Charleston this upcoming April. I’ve never been to Charleston but I have visions of gorgeous old houses, perfect climbing trees and a sweet Southern style. Needless to say, I can’t wait.

Which is, of course, why I LOVE today’s featured wedding at the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall in Charleston…the same location that my brother and sister-in-law will be married in a few months! (And the same location of this ridiculously gorgeous wedding that we featured a while back). The event was sent to us by Michelle Mastrion and designed by Lisa Thomas, the fabulous owner of Ooh Events

I have so much more coming from this lovely, Southern wedding…stay tuned!
