Modern Wedding in Montreal from Isabelle Paille

There are mesmerizing weddings and then there are mesmerizing weddings.  A day so magical that you literally have to stop all other obligations to soak in every last moment of pretty.  This is one of those weddings.  A close the door, silence the phone, kick up your heels on the desk type of affair that soooo deserves your full attention.  A wedding that sparkles from head to toe with contemporary details from Fleurs & Confetti, yummy treats from Sug’art and a Centre des sciences de Montreal setting that will take your breath away.  See it all captured by Isabelle Paille right here in the full gallery.

From Isabelle PailleThis particular spring wedding I love, because of the balance of city and green, of an industrial place decorated with warmth in all things whimsy, of a love story that’s all very urban, yet with all the classic charm to it. It’s as well balanced as this couple is, and preparing this wedding with them was nothing short of a dream!

The modern and industrial space was the perfect blank canvas, with, at night, a breath taking view of the city. Invitations were done in a modern style but with sorbet colours added, yellow, green and a tiny bit of peach! Refectory tables were used draped in white, with white folding chairs as well, to give a festive and fresh look. Yellow spring flowers such as tulips were used abundantly, as well as sugar covered lemons, as place markers. The decor elements were simple and fresh on the guests tables, drawing attention to the bride and groom’s table that was decorated abundantly. The sweet table was a huge success too.

This wedding was absolutely lovely, from the beginning to the end, with so many details and final touches that made the guests yellow with envy! And a year later, clients are still referring to it as THE Science center wedding.

Not only being sentimental to Jimmy and Erin, it lent for a fabulous backdrop! The rest of the session took us to Veteran Acres Park, one of my personal favorite places. As I am sure you can see, they are ridiculously adorable together!! So meant to be!! I am so glad that I have been given the chance to capture their love for one another. Erin’s irresistible happiness and infectious laughter is sure to warm your heart and bring a smile to any face.

Fort Worth, Texas Wedding from Jeremy & Kristin Photography

It goes without saying that I love weddings. I’ve been gushing about them for years now on the pages of SMP, but they truly never get old to me. Even though I am knee deep in them daily, the way a couple looks at each other still sends a flutter through me I just can’t shake. Take this couple for instane, who love each other so much it shows in every gorgeous picture snapped up by Jeremy & Kristin. It’s reason number 1,305 that I will never tire of swooning over nuptials, and you can see why here.

From Jeremy & KristinJoJo and Gio’s wedding was the epitome of elegance and simple beauty. Early in the planning process JoJo wanted her theme to be vintage elegance. While there were aspects to her day that were vintage, there were also details and florals that made the wedding appear more graceful and exquisite. A unique aspect to their wedding was the range of culture. JoJo is half Indian and half Chinese and it was very important for her to reflect her heritage and allow her guests to experience a multi-ethnic wedding. One way JoJo accomplished this was by hiring Bollywood Dance Instructors. These two girls did a fabulous dance routine as a performance and then JoJo invited all of the wedding guests to join her on the dance floor to learn some simple Bollywood moves. This was a first for Gio and many of the guests. JoJo’s reception venue, the Ashton Depot, was a perfect setting for their immaculate reception. The grandeur of the chandeliers and vaulted ceilings were the perfect ascetic for this wedding. JoJo even mentioned the most important aspect of her wedding were her flowers, and it shows. Her bouquets and centerpieces were gorgeous and added a light soft color to the day. Jen Rios with Jen Rios Design helped JoJo with coordination and styling and played an integral part in making the wedding day the success that it was!

Mexico Wedding at Now Sapphire Resort from NC Photography

My official vacation doesn’t start for two whole days (woot!), but this breathtaking affair from NC Photography?  Well, it has me wishing it was tomorrow… and in sunny Mexico to boot.  Because one look at these drop-dead gorgeous nuptials was all it took to start dreaming of crashing ocean waves, clear blue skies and sandy goodness beneath my toes.  It’s the kind of day that is rich beautiful details, love-filled moments and crazy gorgeous imagery.  In other words, it’s a virtual vacation getaway right here in the full gallery.

Following the most romantic proposal at the Banff Springs Castle, Banff Alberta on December 28th, 2011 I said yes to spending the rest of my life with Tyler! We instantly agreed upon a destination wedding, as it would be the perfect setting for a personal, intimate gathering with immediate family and close friends. We envisioned turquoise seas, white sands, and blue skies as being the perfect backdrop for our vows. We wanted rustic, classic, timeless, romantic, if you will; with all the casualties of a destination wedding, and Tyler wanted to make my dreams come true.

We researched endlessly for the perfect resort and venue and finally came across Now Sapphire, a 5 diamond resort in the Mayan Riviera-Mexico. I immediately envisioned lanterns, candlelight, chandeliers, white linens, and roses everywhere.

Having found the perfect venue, it was on to the dress. After countless visits to popular bridal boutiques in Canada and many hours of online research,  I finally found my dream dress. Eldorado by Enzoani! A mermaid gown made of lace with tulle overlay, a sweetheart neckline-delicately covered by illusional lace straps, fitted bodice with a hand crafted floral corsage on the waist and chapel train. It was stunning and everything I envisioned.

For my bridesmaids, I chose long gowns with layers of silk chiffon — a soft romantic color palette of  ivory, nude, blush, soft grey, and taupe in the Jenny Yoo collection. The dress was perfect as it could be worn strapless, halter, one shouldered and flattering for any body type. Each bridesmaid would wear colors from the palette in a style that was flattering for their body.  Bouquets of multi-colored roses; ivory, pale pink, peach with coral infusions would tied the palette together beautifully.

For the groomsmen, we wanted everyone to feel comfortable. Linen blended beige pants, ivory shirts and linen vests with a warm grey tie from Stu Moores Clothiers suited the boys perfectly!

The morning of the wedding… We woke up to the sound of waves crashing beneath our ocean view suite at the Now Sapphire. Room service arrived promptly at 8am to serve us breakfast and mimosas. We wanted to spend the morning together and parted ways after a morning walk on the beach; it was a beautiful way to start our day.

Following hair and makeup at the Spa, my mother and bridesmaids joined in my room to dress and spent the rest of the morning together sipping champagne. It was so special to have everyone with me on my big day. I wore my hair up, in a large bun, as I felt it was a classic/timeless look.  My make-up was soft with hues of rose and smoky eye to finish.

I gave my bridesmaids jewelry that would accent their dresses. They wore Lucia necklace and bracelet, and delicate drop earrings from the Stella and Dot collection. Layers of pearls in ivory, taupe, blush and champagne was a little extra to add to the soft romantic look I was going for. I wanted the girls to feel important and beautiful; they were radiant!

The Ceremony… When I arrived at the terrace the set up was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. After months of planning my wedding via email I was a little unsure as to how my requests would be received or interpreted. Our wedding planner, Ramon,  couldn’t have done a better job at understanding me and my personal taste.

The bridal party walked down the aisle to the instrumental Marry Me by Train. Arm in arm with my parents, I made my grand entrance while walking to the instrumental A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Following the most beautiful ceremony and vow exchange we proceeded down the aisle to the instrumental Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran. It was the perfect ending to our ceremony. As the ceremony was directly below the terrace where we would have our reception, we joined there to thank everyone for coming. Everyone had been so touched emotionally by the ceremony; Tyler and I had never felt more loved. The servers immediately greeted us and our guests with a glass of champagne and we toasted our unity and hopes of a long happy life.

Cocktail tables were dressed in Ivory linens and dressed with a blush satin sash; a guest book table with a custom guest book created by Chantille through Mixbook for the guests to sign and leave well wishes; a large vintage bird cage-purchased from Annie McGuire Interiors, Medicine Hat, AB, to hold wedding cards, a rustic wooden box of cigars decorated the table nicely and were a nice treat for our guests. Music played softly and everyone was greeted with a signature drink; pina colada with soft pink umbrellas of course. The menu: mini crab cakes, tempura prawns with a garlic aioli dip, sushi, wings and pineapple beef skewers. Everything was a hit!

The Reception… The set up was stunning. Open starlit sky, white tiffany chairs, small rectangular tables covered in ivory linens with blush satin runners; centerpieces of roses, accompanied by candlelit vintage mini lanterns that created a sense of warmth for the evening. Custom table cards that matched the formal invites we had sent out months before; designed by Karri Montean of Borrowed Blue Wedding Designs.

Tyler and I struggled with favor ideas forever. We didn’t want anything tacky, or anything that would be left sitting on the tables. We decided on Bath and Body works medium sized candles in tikki beach scent.

Tyler and I didn’t want our guests to be bored by lengthy speeches and long dinner. We asked that our MC keep it tasteful, classy and simple. The request was well received. It was a beautiful, emotional evening. To keep ourselves entertained, we asked that our guests wear a sombrero and have a shot of Mexican tequila; much to our surprise, this did not deter our guests from making Tyler and I kiss all evening; it was hilarious.

Nicole and her husband Shawn flew to Mexico from Calgary, AB to photograph our wedding. They are pretty much photography celebrities in Alberta. Photos are memories that will last a lifetime and we knew we had to have them.

I cannot express how thankful we are to have gone south for our wedding. We had a full week to spend time with people who love and support our relationship. There was no skimping out on the details for us. We had our fairytale wedding on the white sandy beaches of Mexico and we wouldn’t change a thing~

Backyard Massachusetts Wedding from Megan Haley Photographs

This backyard beauty from Megan Haley is simply as sweet as they come. Intimate and meaningful, every detail dreamt up by this adorable duo is all them. Which I just couldn’t adore more. It’s as stylish as is it is sweet and will surely melt your heart – and it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From Megan HaleyThis intimate vintage backyard wedding was created with thought and purpose. It was important to Scarlet and Eric to create a day that was truly them, and that stood for values they held dear. This meant a combination of DIY and sourcing either local or handcrafted goods to furnish their lovely celebration. Everything from Scarlet’s beautiful and unique wedding dress to the Bunting birds cake topper were found from various artists on Etsy. Another important aspect of their celebration was local and organic food. Good local food is something that both Scarlet and Eric cherish and love exploring together. On their wedding website they had a whole page dedicated to the importance and benefits of eating locally and supporting your local farmers. Even including this wonderful quote: “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.” -Thomas Jefferson

Their ceremony was simple and beautiful. One of Scarlet’s dearest friends performed the handfasting ceremony, among a circle of about 18 of their closest friends and family. A short cocktail hour followed with their favorite board games and toasts with a signature drink – a spiked Arnold Palmer which was the perfect complement to the hot summer day! Scarlet also surprised Eric with a beautiful serenade! Lunch consisted of amazing gourmet burgers cooked up by the awesome Heirloom Catering, which prides themselves by sourcing local and organic food. The day rounded out with Karaoke inside the beautiful private country home in Colrain, Massachusetts.

From the Bride… From the moment I agreed to go to an independent professional wrestling show our junior year of high school to watch him wrestle, I knew Kyle was going to be the one. Nine years, one high school and college graduation and one simple Christmas Eve proposal that perfectly fit our relationship style later, I was walking down the aisle to marry the man I’ve loved for so long. Kyle and I had actually been friends since 9th grade, but 11th grade chemistry is where our love started blossoming. Funny thing is, to this day we still find ourselves acting like we did during those first high school moments.

We knew we would be sharing this special day with so many of our loved ones that have grown over the years with our relationship so we wanted to make sure our day incorporated everyone. We chose to get married at the Conservatory at Waterstone (which used to be an old restaurant before it was turned into a wedding venue) in the quaint downtown area of Acworth, GA. We did some researching for venues online prior to choosing, but the Conservatory was the first and last venue that we visited. Everything about it from the cobblestone floors to the walls and back down to the wrought iron details made this venue incredibly inspiring. The Conservatory provides an all-inclusive package as well which played a major role in our tight wedding budget.

The venue really inspired the “vintage-modern” theme of our wedding. We spent the next year and a half searching yard sales, flea markets, estate sales, Four Inch Fold vintage rental shop … everywhere to collect bottles, glasses, jars, any assortment of items to put flowers in. We knew we wanted the flowers to be arranged in a very simple and minimalist technique throughout the 35+ tables at the Conservatory. Along with bottles, we collected trunks, old coke crates, windows and other used and re-purposed odds and ends to complete our venue’s modern vintage feel. We also completed several DIY projects throughout the process including the Yarn M nailed to wood, beautifully hand-written signs (courtesy of my maid of honor) throughout the Conservatory, several dyed paper doilies, our window program sign, guestbook canvas and the menu signs made out of pallets and chalkboard paint to name a few. Kyle and I really enjoyed adding these meaningful touches throughout our wedding.

Before the ceremony, rather than going by tradition and not seeing each other up until I’m walking down the aisle, we chose to write each other letters and do a first look in a garden location that Amber, our photographer chose near the ceremony site. It was definitely a special and personal moment for us both.

My personal favorite detail for our entire wedding day was actually a site not even seen, it was our selection of music throughout the night. Here are a few from our list:

Wedding Party Entrance – Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova; Bride’s Entrance – Harvest Moon by Neil Young (I listened to this song on tape over and over again with my mom as a child); Unity Candle Ceremony – I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz; Ceremony Exit – Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root; Wedding Party Reception Entrance – Let’s Get Married by Jagged Edge (we had each pair do a dance as they were announced in); First Dance – At Last by Etta James; Father/Daughter Dance – Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.

Truth be told, nothing can compare to hearing our close friend and pastor pronounce us husband and wife. However, all of the well-thought out details of our wedding and our team of wedding day extraordinaires made this an unforgettable day for everyone.

Italy Wedding from Jay Studio + Efffetti Wedding Planners & Events in Italy

Two Aussies tied the knot in Italy, and thanks to Efffetti Wedding Planners & Events in Italy, it doesn’t get  prettier than what you are about to see. Jay Studio captured the essence of the Italian destination wedding, and we are simply smitten!

From the planner… This fairy tale wedding in Certaldo Tuscany was the fusion of many cultures and traditions. Ben and Sara are both Australians living in Brisbane and decided to fly to Italy with their families and friend to get married in Tuscany. Ben’s family has Polish origins and brought some their traditions to the ceremony such as breaking the glass at the end of the ceremony and the usage of the chuppah. Sara has Persian origins which were reflected in the Persian Wedding Spread prepared by her sisters and mum and several other touches.

The legal ceremony took place in one of the most amazing castles in Tuscany: The Castle of Oliveto, then the bridal party moved to the medieval city of Certaldo to take some pictures and video and rejoined the whole group of guests at the Villa they had rented for their two weeks stay the Villa Belsole, on top of a hill overlooking the most pure Tuscan and Chianti countryside. The theme colour was pink for flowers and blue for dresses and details. Special mention to the socks + shoes and shoulders strap of the groom and best men. After a whole year of planning with 9 hours time difference we are so proud of the result we achieved for this wedding, a melting pot of cultures, traditions and the most pure love!

Vancouver Wedding from Lucida Photography + Filosophi Events

Truth be told, this wedding makes we wish I could do it all over again. To be the blushing bride poring love into every detail of a dream-filled day with amazing vendors like Filosophi Events and Celsia Florist by my side. It’s enough to make any girl a little green with envy. And the captures from Lucida Photography? Well, they’re only adding to the mix. See every ultra-romantic moment right over here.

From the Bride…Ian and I met at Trinity Western University near Vancouver; I was in Painting and Drawing, and he was studying Business, but we clicked instantly, and began dating within our very first week as freshmen. After dating just less than two years, he proposed! As we began the planning, we wanted something that felt very natural, very beautiful and not, as I always said, “wedding-y”. My Mom discovered the Brock House Restaurant in Vancouver. The combination of the charming old house and the ocean views fit our vision perfectly, and we decided to get married in the city where we met. Once we found our venue, things fell together beautifully – we were able to discover an incredible crew of vendors: Tahnee (from Celsia florist), Erin (Filosophi), Emily (makeup and hair) and Melia (Lucida) became more like friends, and I feel so lucky to have worked with such fabulous, inspiring people.

So much loving, careful effort went into the details of the wedding: our invitations were my handwriting printed on wood, and I illustrated each table number with leaves and flowers. A couple of my favourite touches were the wedding wreath we hung at our ceremony site, and walking down the aisle to harp playing Moon River.

We decided on an afternoon “garden party” reception. We opted for a (fabulous) jazz combo in lieu of the customary DJ and dancing, but my spontaneous dances with my Dad to “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, and then with Ian to “L-O-V-E” as my sister sang were some of my favourite memories. My sister is an INCREDIBLE jazz vocalist, and absolutely stole the show at the reception! Another favourite moment was Ian’s speech. He told the story of how we got to know each other playing cards during university orientation week, and then surprised me with a hand-made deck; he had written something that he loves about me on each card. His friends were quite concerned about how they could ever match that at their own future weddings!

When we were planning the wedding, so many people warned us “it’s just one day!”; it made me wonder if I would feel let down when it was all over. There can be so much hype and glamour surrounding being a bride and planning a “perfect” wedding. When the day arrived, however, there was just so much love and happiness there. There were so many happy tears from friends and family, and most importantly from my husband. I’m honoured to say that our wedding was far more than a combination of decor decisions and details, and my favourite thing about Melia’s photography was how well that shines through in the images. All of our planning just set the stage for something very meaningful; an authentic, love-filled, blessed start to our life together.

A Fun-Filled Staycation from Rebekah Carey McNall

Though we’re all about seeing the world at every given moment, sadly, we know that there are times when jetting off to an undisclosed location is simply not an option. So if you find yourself taking advantage of your very own city this year, you’ve come to the right place! Because with Rebekah’s help, we’ve got a day chock full of fun activities that you can do to make your staycation a memorable one. Captured by Kirsten Julia Photography there’s more from this fun-filled shoot in the gallery!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/66707718 600 338]

From Rebekah… I recently designed and styled this shoot to show how much fun you can have if you’re “stay-cationing.” I found a beautiful park in our neighborhood and set-up a day for two friends complete with picnic, lawn bowling, drinks, and croquet.

Vacations to tropical destinations, or historic European cobblestoned streets are incredible, they’re experiences everyone should have. But, if you find yourself “staycationing” this year, there really are amazing experiences to have that are quintessentially associated with vacation. Picnics in a park, lawn-bowing, toasting how fabulous you both are beneath a beautiful tree and laughing uproariously while you whack croquet balls around!

I took some of my favorite Pottery Barn pieces to style this fun shoot that embodies everything I love about vacations: fun in the sun, colorful attire, laughing with friends, good food and new experiences. We hope this shoot inspires you to look no further than your best friend and a park to have all the fun a vacation offers with none of the stress of travel!

And if you’re on the hunt for some picnic ideas, you’d better believe we’ve got you covered:
-Our Kate Spade inspired picnic is chock full of fun cheat-cuts (we won’t tell)
-A simple cocktail that will pair perfectly with the great outdoors
Summer bruschetta: easy to pack, and can be assembled on site
-And finish it off with a french cherry clafoutis!

Romantic Sarasota Wedding at The Field Club from K&K Photography

You know what makes one pretty amazing combo?  A stunningly classic wedding and one seriously adorable duo.  But not just any adorable duo.  An adorable duo that really knows a thing or two about putting on a stellar wedding.  One that takes a gorgeous color palette (blush and gold, mind you) and pairs it up with lush blooms from Flowers by Fudgie, a breathtaking Sarasota setting and one beautiful moment after another captured by K&K Photography.  See them all right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Even though I currently reside in Nashville, my dream was to have our wedding in my home state of Florida. Growing up in this lush, tropical place, I wanted my guests to have an authentic Florida inspired experience for our somewhat destination wedding. After looking at several venues, I knew that I didn’t want the typical ballroom wedding, and desired something much more intimate and romantic. The Field Club in Sarasota presented 1920’s Spanish architecture, and a vintage elegance that was reminiscent of a Gatsby-esque mansion, perfectly situated on the bay in Siesta Key. Having grown up going to the Club, I wanted my decor to accentuate these elements and not distract. I chose a blush pink (my favorite color), gold, and a cream color palette to set a romantic glow. Candles in mercury glass holders were everywhere and I think really set the mood for the whole evening. For the flowers, I chose hydrangea, roses, and baby’s breath for a traditional, yet romantic and full bloom effect.

I love all things girly – pink, pearls, ruffles, and bows and I could not help myself from reflecting this in our wedding. I felt like an absolute princess in my Watters gown, and my photographer, Jeff made me feel even more beautiful in the moments he captured.

I was lucky to have my mother and phenom wedding planner, Jennifer, help so so so much along the way, but I still wanted my personal touch on things. My favorite wedding related investment was an embosser with our couples monogram. This circular monogram became a theme of the wedding and I used it on the cocktail napkins, programs, and thank you card stationery for a personal and luxurious touch. The same monogram style was also reflected on our cake in pink icing. The grooms cake depicting our beloved chihuahua was truly a labor of love on the behalf of my husband and our guests could not stop raving about it.

Reflecting on the wedding now, it was truly such a magical moment in my life. It was so gratifying to see all the different elements finally come together after a year of planning and to see the guests enjoy every moment of it.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden Spring Wedding from Servidone Studios Photography

The Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is what wedding venue dreams are made of. I’ve never seen a wedding there I didn’t love, and this beauty by Servidone Studios Photography keeps that tradition running strong. It’s classic elegance defined, and there is even more pretty to soak up right here.

From Servidone StudiosColleen and Conor are two of the absolute sweetest people you will ever meet. Having such a perfect wedding day couldn’t have happened to two more deserving people! Their day was elegant: Conor donned a tuxedo, and Colleen looked like a blonde Audrey Hepburn with her classic hair style.

The Palm house set in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens was stunning! We were lucky enough to have the cherry blossoms in full bloom, and we took full advantage of the LOVELY surroundings for photographs. As for the decor, it was classic and bright… Shades of white, with a touch of sparkle. Elegant perfection. The party was nothing short of amazing, the band, The Rhythm Shop, kept the party going, and going, and going…

Florida Wedding from Ryan Ray Photography

Color and cupcakes. That is the perfect title for this wedding celebration that’s as happy and laughter-filled as they come. It’s a sea of pretty vistas and pops of coral captured by Ryan Ray Photography. And then there are the details. Details like a streamer filled tree, the cutest pennant seating cards and a good game of corn-hole all crafted by Mijanne Wurdeman. I promise you, you are going to fall in love with this sweet couple and their beautiful celebration the second you lay eyes on all the pretty pics. And there’s even more right here!

From the Bride…When planning our wedding our main goal was to really stay true to ourselves and our style. Once our invites were designed it really set the theme of the flags and fun feel we were going for. Besides photography, which was the most important thing to us, the most important things in our wedding were flowers and what we wore. A local seamstress made my dream come to life with antique crocheted lace tablecloths collected to make my dress and Zach had his royal navy suit custom made by Ermenegildo Zenga. Our amazing friend and wedding designer, Mijanne, did an incredible job on our florals. The vision for our day was a blend of Zach’s J.Crew style and my love of 1950’s vintage decor. All of this was set on a friends blueberry farm outside of our hometown of Orlando, with views for miles and a gorgeous sunset under the oak trees. My favorite part of planning our wedding was hunting flea markets and antique malls for all of the decorations. I will never forget the immense love and support felt by family and friends, this is one of the best parts about getting married. The best part was getting to marry my best friend and love of my life!

Erin’s Home Tour from Ruth Eileen

At long last, the piece de resistance! Erin’s home in all of its fabulously girly glory for you to oogle to your hearts content. With the addition of a few sweet details (hello striped wall, gold dipped benches and adorable art!) Erin’s pretty little flat feels totally and completely transformed. Photographed by Ruth Eileen, there’s lots more where this came from right here in the gallery. And make sure to read on to see exactly what we did!

The very first thing we did was add some color. Pink and gold are Erin’s colors of choice so that’s exactly what we did. That amazing Rothko reprint really set the tone for the palette. We loved the contrast to the striped wall and we waterfalled the hues down through the pillows, the accessories, the well, everything.

The room simply wasn’t going to accommodate a large sofa so we stuck with Erin’s two white chairs. We faced them opposite each other to create a warm and cozy environment, dressing each up with some pretty pillows we found. We placed two inexpensive, gussied up X benches between so that Erin & Chuck could catch up with cocktails after a long days work. Gold touches were sprinkled on the side table and throughout the rest of the room.

My favorite transformation was our bar area. Erin originally had a cute but not amazing hand-me-down bar cart so we replaced it with something that would bring a smile from the moment she walked in the door. We added a pop of whimsy with a Jonathan Adler ice bucket, a crazy owl vase filled with flowers and some pretty liquor bottles. It was love at first sight.

Erin’s work space was already pretty freaking cute. We just added a few white vases, some fresh flowers and a fun catch all tray that could house Erin’s papers. Oh and some pretty gold and floral inspired notebooks because as techy as Erin is, she’s a traditionalist at heart. We love that the desk ties the two areas together so beautifully. The metallics, the pinks and the hints of girliness make it feel like one cohesive area to live & work.

Erin’s bedroom is literally the size of a queen bed. She opted for a full herself which left room for two teeny tiny tables on either side. It’s the smallest bedroom in the world and after some very minor touches, quite possibly the loveliest. A gorgeous mint throw that we found at West Elm, stacks of pretty books and a whimsical black & white jewelry holder was all this girl needed. The Love Is All You Need sign above the bed was just icing on an already pretty perfect cake. And did we mention that Erin literally gold leafed her entire bed? I told you. This girl lives on the edge.

The splurge – which we wholly believe every home needs so that it feels less “make it work” and more “hell to the yeah this is mine” – was this gorgeous cashmere Jonathan Adler blanket. In Erin’s signature pink. Against our chevron but neutral rug, this blanket alone literally transformed the whole space. It was a total game changer and worth every last penny it cost. And it cost a lot.

Biggest impact of the day? Breathing life back into the shelves that we actually thought we loved the way they were. If you remember the color blocked shelves that Erin originally had? Well, she cleared them out, simplified and only added back her favorite pieces. It opened up the space and really let all of the other thoughtfully chosen accessories sing.

To really get a sense of the transformation, take a peek at the gallery of Erin’s home before!

Peter Pan Wedding Inspiration from Evelyn Alas Photography + Charm City Cakes

Love and a little pixie dust. That’s what this inspiration shoot from Evelyn Alas Photography is all about. It doesn’t get more perfect for a Peter Pan fan (guilty as charged!). We love it all, from the whimsical table settings to gorgeous fashion the cake from Charm City Cakes, which is just the sprinkles on the top of a lovely, lovely shoot.

Whimsical

From the photographer… Peter Pan is a story about a boy who never wanted to grow up, so he lived on this fantastic island called Neverland. The story of Peter Pan, also known as Peter and Wendy, follows the tale of friendship, love and adventure between Peter Pan and Wendy Darling. In our photo shoot, we wanted to capture the essence of this timeless story and bring the worlds of Peter Pan and Wendy Darling together. We imagine that Wendy Darling and Peter Pan plan their wedding in London, in an elegant setting that also includes nature, whimsical youth, beauty, and fantasy. Our main colors are olive green, gold, pale blue and ivory.

To begin, we chose Woodend in Chevy Chase, MD as our location because this particular venue combines a great natural woodsy backdrop and an elegant Georgian Revival mansion. With this setting, Wendy Darling and Peter Pan would be able to take advantage of a beautiful inside and outside setting.

We set our main guest dining table on the mansion’s portico; this provided a beautiful and classical backdrop. It also created an intimate space for our bride and groom’s family and friends. The vintage crystal stemware, champagne-shimmer tablecloth, gold-rimmed plates, and the gold silverware alluded to Wendy Darling’s London lifestyle. The moss-draped tablescape and lush flowers provides a connection to nature with our décor.

When we picture Wendy Darling, a fresh and youthful girl comes to mind. So for Wendy’s make-up, we chose a natural and understated look in order to accentuate her blue eyes. Her hair was swept to the side for a look that was playful and also intricately braided. We chose a Claire Pettibone dress, because her vintage style designs are delicate and graceful and at the same time playful and whimsical. The Twigs and Honey head piece in blue and gold and gold sparkly shoes worn by Wendy, were a nod to Neverland and Tinkerbell.

Peter Pan, is often seen as a mischievous young boy, however we decided to show a mature Peter. We dressed him in a classic black suit with a modern skinny black tie. We also gave him forest green socks to allude to the classic symbol of his former adventures.

We worked with an invitation designer who created wedding stationary and paper that include quotes from the book. Escort cards were written with names of characters from the original Peter Pan. Pixie dust favors were provided, which represented the fantastical aspect of the wedding.

We carried out gold elements throughout the styling and décor of our reception and dessert tables. The bride wore sparkly gold shoes. Our cake artist designed a simple and chic white cake brushed with gold shimmer, it was topped with a white floral wreath cake topper to compliment Wendy’s headpiece. Miniature bite sized dessert treats included a decadent assortment of chocolates, macaroons, and cupcakes.

Ten Tips on Painting a Striped Wall

So today we’re devouring  our Weddings Editor – Erin’s – recent houselift. Code for house facelift. One of the things that Erin tackled when she first moved in that we all fell so hard for, were her striped walls. They instantly made her tiny space feel larger and decidedly oh so chic. So we asked Erin to share a few little tips on wall striping. Fat or skinny, bold or shy, following these little tidbits will ensure that your stripes are perfect in every shape and size. And just wait until you see the art that we choose to compliment the stripe (coming up next)!

No. ONE:
Before anything, paint the entire wall using the base coat colour (aka your lighter colour). That way you only need to worry about adding the darker coloured stripes on top. I know, I know, thanks Captain Obvious. But you’d be surprised at how many people skip this step and spend the time painting each individual stripe!

No. TWO:
It always looks best if your first stripe (along the floor) and last stripe (along the ceiling) are the same colour.

No. THREE:
After you measure and mark your stripes on each end of the wall, grab a level and draw a very light line across the entirety of the wall using an HB pencil. I won’t lie, it’s tedious. But it’s well worth it in the long run. I promise. You won’t find any wonky stripes on our time!

No. FOUR:
Spring for frog tape. It’s like the cadillac of painters tape and it will ensure a really nice, crisp line.

No. FIVE:
Make sure your tape is firmly secure to the wall. Take the time to really press it on there to eliminate any bleeding.

No. SIX:
Sometimes those pencil marks can be a bit of a pain to remove. To eliminate this, place your tape slightly above the pencil line. We’re talking a fraction of a millimetre here folks. That way you’ll paint right over that pesky pencil.

No. SEVEN:
Ensure even coverage. Do two to three coats if you must and be sure to let each coat dry before the next is applied. There’s not much worse than a spotty stripe! Especially after all that hard work leading up to this point.

No. EIGHT:
Thick stripes are nice as they’re bold and dramatic, AND you can also use a full size roller which makes the job qo by lightning fast. If your stripes are small, pick up a mini roller! It will give you much more precision and a more graphic result. Or live on the edge and try stripes in all different widths. Because you’re crazy like that!

No. NINE:
To eliminate drips, give your roller a pass on a piece of discarded cardboard before applying the paint to the wall. The key here is a few thin, even coats!

No. TEN:
Make sure that the paint is completely dry before removing the tape.

Lastly, Take a step back and admire your handiwork. Be sure to have a glass of wine in hand – you totally deserve it!

Industrial Wedding Inspiration from IYQ Photography

I sort of love how modern brides are breaking every rule in the book when it comes to wedding venues. Opting for spaces like a parking garage, an old department store, or — my personal favorite — industrial style lofts like this shoot from IYQ Photography. Infused with a sense of girly glam by Events 306 and statement-making florals from Newberry Brothers, there’s really only one thing left to do: pin your sweet little heart out right over here.

From IYQ PhotographyWe love the opulence of glamour but we also love the simplicity of industrial. We thought it would be really fun to combine two of our favorite styles and see what happens. Well, it turned out great! Our gorgeous model wore two different dresses. One super glamorous gold sequin gown by Badgley Mischka and one Grecian dress by Mark & James by Badgley Mischka with gold sequin details.

Her hair was polished yet relaxed. It looked great with or without the flower halo. We chose a very industrial location at The Studios at Overland Crossing. We are obsessed with the white brick and large windows. It was such a clean slate and really adapted well with our vision for a glamour/industrial shoot. Newberry Brothers did a fantastic job on the flowers. They understood our vision exactly. They used a variety of gold vases with the most beautiful flowers. We died for the flower halo.

The flowers were totally glamorous yet soft and relaxed all at the same time. The industrial wooden table was designed by Events 306. It turned out beautifully. We loved the tables industrial elements. It is so simple yet so beautifully crafted. We were so happy with the mini cupcakes, mini cake and macrons from Happy Cakes Bakery. We loved the mint green with pale pink sugar heart cutouts. It is such a soft color and it complemented the gold details so well. Not only were the desserts gorgeous to look at they tasted amazing! The invitations were created by Tasha Rae Designs. They were perfect. The cover of the invitation was a shimmery light pink with grey and mint green printed text on the inside. The invitations were held together by a glittery gold ribbon.

Tasha Rae Designs also created the beautifully crafted menus. The invitation envelope was calligraphed by the amazingly talented Evette at Pretty Writing in gold ink. It was the perfect complement to a perfect invitation. We were blown away by all of the talented vendors we worked with.

Perth Wedding from Daniel Price Photography

This wedding is full of moments.  You know the ones.  Those crazy happy-filled seconds that burst right from your computer screen and straight into your heart.  And not only is literally overflowing with joy (it sooo is), it also happens to be one giant pretty fest, as well.  With beautiful blooms from Lush Creations, fab decor from Joondalup Weddings and image after breathtaking image captured by Daniel Price Photography.  See them all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Troy and I met in 2007 and after years of endless questions from our family and friends, Troy finally popped the question four years later while holidaying in Bali. After scrolling through page after page of amazing weddings on SMP and in magazines for inspiration, I finally settled on a colour scheme of dusty pink, grey and ivory.

As we were to be married in winter, we wanted a venue that had an open outdoor feel yet be fully covered so that in the event that it did rain, our guests would remain both dry and warm. I found The Rydges hotel at a bridal convention I had attended and after speaking with their wedding coordinator Melissa, I knew I had found the perfect ceremony venue. Troy and I both love the beach and knew we wanted a venue that was close to the ocean. As soon as we viewed The Breakwater, we knew that was where we had to have the reception. The modern elegance of the Akoya Suite matched the vision we had for our wedding.  The fact that it had amazing harbour views was a huge bonus.

We selected table decor to compliment The Breakwater’s stunning ceiling chandeliers. For each table we had tall crystal centrepieces and matching crystal tea light candles to create a warm and romantic feel. I also wanted to add my own personal touch to the wedding so created the table numbers, boxed cupcakes with thank you tags and place cards for each table. In addition to this, I had also made all our wedding invitations, seating chart, signs and props for the photo booth.

Our flowers were incredible and after having the initial consultation with Amy from Lush Creations, I knew I was in great hands. From one simple inspiration picture I brought with me to the appointment, she 110% matched what I had in mind and the quality of her work was magnificent. My bouquet was overflowing with peonies, roses, parrot tulips, dusty miller and so much more. It was then all held together with ivory lace that perfectly matched my dress.

Our photographer Daniel worked so well with us and our bridal party. He had a great way of breaking the ice so that everyone felt super relaxed and this has completely translated to the pictures. The locations he chose were in one word, spectacular! We were incredibly lucky to be married on a beautiful sunny winter’s day in front of our family and friends.  We honestly could not have asked for anything more and can’t wait to begin our journey as husband and wife.

San Juan Capistrano Wedding from Captured by Aimee

There were so many moments in this San Juan Capistrano wedding at Pepper Tree Estate where I found myself squealing with joy. From the perfectly curated details to all the stunning florals by Meri Wagner of The Event Loft, and everything in between. It’s pure prettiness as seen through the talented lens of the lovely Captured by Aimee, and every last gorgeous moment is sitting right here in the full gallery of images.

Michael & Kaela from Amari Productions on Vimeo.

From the Bride…Mike proposed in the fall at a gorgeous vineyard in Napa Valley. We knew we wanted to be married in the spring, which didn’t leave much time for planning! We wanted our wedding to be unique, romantic, and being true foodies at heart, had to have amazing food. We envisioned a day that would be about family, and love, and reconnecting with our loved ones. Our dream setting would have been a farm somewhere in Italy. I mean, isn’t that every girl’s dream?!  We decided to bring a little touch of Italy to the coast of California. It was through the fabulous Event Loft that we found our exclusive venue. It was oh so perfect in every way- from the open pasture, and elegant horses to the charming Mediterranean villa. The only thing it needed was a touch of “rustic glam” inspired design.

I wanted the natural beauty of the venue to speak for itself while adding rustic, vintage, and glamorous touches: from the vintage chandeliers I collected from the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena, CA, to the table number frames encrusted with pear shaped jewels to play off the shape of my pear cut engagement ring. I’ve always loved collecting beautiful vintage items, like wooden frames and decor, and was able to really incorporate a lot of my collection into the decor of our wedding. One of my favorite pieces is a hammered copper vase I picked up in Los Angeles. It paired so perfectly with the vibrant pink peony, and added a pop of color to the bar. Our planner Adina Verdult was the best. She added touches of her flawless design aesthetic to the table settings and aisle design. Not to mention the gorgeous presentation of the food.  I mean you can’t really go wrong with braised short rib and roasted root vegetables – yum!

I must say that seeing my bouquet for the first time was one of my most anticipated moments. Our florist Meri Wagner, along with Adina worked so hard on the design. I had found two very different styles I wanted to bring together, and Meri pulled if off fabulously! From the black and white anemones, to the peonies and succulents, it was just breathtakingly beautiful. I found my dress at one of those tiny hidden gem shops tucked away in the heart of Koreatown. A Chantilly lace and chiffon San Patrick gown. It was love at first sight. A modern classic, with tiny polka dots covering the chiffon, and a gorgeous silhouette. My belt was originally a necklace from J Crew, that we transformed by adding the ribbon. My grandmother lent me her grandmothers 1920s Swarovski Crystal earrings, a pair I have coveted since I was a little girl, always wanting to play dress up in them. We wanted to include our family and friends as much as possible, and one of my favorite ways we did this was displaying a photo line that was hung in the garden, where the reception was held.  It included photos of most of our loved ones throughout the years, and was really fun to watch everyone look through them. My sister/MOH created our guest book- a hand drawn “fingerprint tree” that everyone could stamp and sign their name. Our guests loved it, and really appreciated all of the work we put into the small details of our wedding.

DIY Gold Dipped X-Bench

Before we get to the most fun bit of Erin’s home makeover (the full tour, of course!) we thought we’d share a quick little tutorial on how we spruced up a few X-Benches in Erin’s space. Now, there was nothing seriously wrong with them to begin with, but they did lack a little sparkle. And Erin is the kind of girl that seriously sparkles. So luckily, with a quick coat of white paint and a little dipping action, we brought these babies from drab to fab in minutes.
