These Grooms Planned the Ultimate Entertainment: Synchronized Swimmers

Rade and David’s destination wedding in the South of France is one fete you’re sure to favor. With Wedding Angels at the helm, it was a day filled with synchronized swimmers, stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, and an all-white theme that’s anything but vanilla. Captured by Ashley Ludaescher Photography, we’ve got their entire celebration waiting for you to fall in love with via The Vault!

From Ashley Ludaescher PhotographyRade and David and their guests came all the way from Los Angeles to celebrate their marriage on the French Riviera, one of their favorite places in the world, and it was definitely one for the books! The wedding was held at the fabulous Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, located at the southern tip of the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat peninsula. They chose an all-white theme for the day, from the flowers to the guest’s attire. For their ceremony, they chose location that offered stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the dinner celebration was held next to the seaside infinity pool. Before exchanging vows, David’s aunt read the supreme court opinion authored by Justice Kennedy and the words had almost everyone crying happy tears.

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

As the sun set over the sea, guests were ushered down to the pool in the bubble funicular and were greeted by synchronized swimmers and serenaded by a violinist playing while floating in a bubble in the pool. The incredible dinner was highlighted with speeches from those closest to Rade & David and the overwhelming love surrounding the couple was incredible to witness. The night ended with a pool party & dance party lasting into the wee hours of the morning. More weddings should end the party in the pool

Secrets to making big things happen in your career

If there are two women who know the ins and outs to career building, it’s Jessica Camerata and Cathy Anderson. From their individual style blogs to a shared venture, The Blog Societies, they’ve proven time and again, they have what it takes to succeed in the business world. And they aren’t afraid to share their secrets. Read up on their tried and true tips for making big things happen in your career.

Jessica Camerata and Cathy Anderson know what it takes to make big things happen in your career. After all, they have both experienced much success with their individual style blogs, My Style Vita and Poor Little It Girl. But after seeing a direct void in the market for a digital space where bloggers could connect and grow their blogs, they knew that this was a way that they could make their mark on the world and further advance their careers.

Together they launched The Blog Societies, an online community of active digital publishers (at last count, there were 425 members!), in 2013. The Blog Societies started out as the Southern Blog Society, but soon after expanded to incorporate five regions in the U. S.: Southern, Southwest, Northeast, Midwest and Northwest. This, in addition to continuing to run their own blogs. With this success and newfound knowledge under their belts, they’re taking time to share their collective secrets to finding career success.

Make Connections & Join A Network

You’ll never know when you need to lean on someone until you desperately need it. Having a great network of supportive like-minded people is essential to forging ahead in your career. We’ve found that connecting with others via a network, like The Blog Societies, can provide you with the tools, exposure and inspiration to work harder and make big things happen.

Seek Out Education

A big secret to success is understanding and embracing the notion that we truly never stop learning. Whether it’s attending a workshop when you have a free weeknight at General Assembly or attending a full blown conference, seeking out education can not only boost your morale, but it can allow you to expand upon and hone in on your expertise.

Be Ambitious & Passionate

We’ve learned that finding success in our careers has often been the result of believing in ourselves and taking a big leap. There are no guarantees and the road ahead isn’t always easy. But it turns out that hard work and dedication are stepping stones to success. Be ambitious. Take on that extra project outside of your comfort zone. Be passionate. Share your love for what you do with the world. Just remember that whatever you do, do it well. No one notices the person who didn’t go above and beyond or who wasn’t the first to raise their hand to volunteer. Be that person.

Be Kind & Have Integrity

Kindness and integrity get noticed. Simple, but powerful. Be kind to yourself and to others. Being friendly, considerate and generous will take you places! And always operate with the highest level of integrity. It’s amazing how simple it is, but it can completely transform a situation, which is why we consider it a secret of our success.

Use Your Previous Experience To Your Advantage

Whether your previous experience was working a retail job, serving at a restaurant, or working in a totally different industry – take what you’ve learned and use it to your advantage! Apply that knowledge and those key skills to help you find success in what you’re doing.

Have Realistic Expectations

Even if you know you’re doing a great job, chances are that others won’t be applauding you for every little thing you do right. And that’s ok! Set your own expectations, cheer yourself on, and understand that it may take time for others to take note. And once they do – the sky is the limit!

A Chance Meeting in a New City Turned Into a Happily Ever After

Whether or not you believe in fate, this love story is proof that meeting “the one” often happens just when you least expect it. Take the bride Molli who had just moved to a new city and, prompted by her dad’s advice, struck up a conversation with strangers at a local burger bar. One of those strangers later turned out to be her husband, Zach. They planned a wedding at the Allan House and you can dive into the pictures from JP Pratt Photography.

Their love story.. Newly graduated, Molli moved to Orlando, Florida for a new job. It was a new city and she didn’t know anyone in town. Lonely, and seeking community, she called her dad asking for advice. In all his fatherly wisdom, he told her to find the best “hangout” spot in town and wait to meet someone. She took his advice and ended up at a local burger bar! After sheepishly sharing her dad’s advice with the bartender, he pointed out a group of locals who shared a career in the same industry as Molli – sports. She got up the courage and walked over, introduced herself, and became friends with the group. Little did she know, she had just met her husband, Zach, and all of his closest friends!

Zach went to school in Austin and took Molli to visit his alma mater while they were dating. She quickly fell in love with the city and they even adopted a dog and named him Austin! Zach’s work took them to Utah and he proposed on the Snake River Overlook at the base of the Grand Teton Mountains. As they began to plan their wedding, their choice on location was obvious… It had to be in Austin, Texas! It was so clear how in love Molli and Zach were on their wedding day but it was also so incredible to see how loved they are by their friends and family.

Guests traveled from 18 different states and even Italy to celebrate these two! They had a beautifully intimate ceremony under a canopy of trees at The Allan House just outside of Downtown Austin. Following the ceremony was the outdoor reception which was accompanied by an incredible live band and loads of dancing. Everything from the greenery, peonies and ranunculus floral arrangements to the basketball shaped peanut butter cake pops, and the fresh lemon curd and raspberry filled cake screamed Molli and Zach. My favorite detail about their day was their grand exit. As they left for their honeymoon in Italy, their guests waved Italian flags as they ran to their getaway vehicle – a pedicab!

The English Countryside: Where Romance Is Everywhere

The English countryside is my version of paradise and when you add in a wedding, it becomes too good to be true. But go ahead and pinch yourself because this gem right here is all real. Captured by Faye Cornhill, we have an elegant English celebration that’s worthy of some serious pinning to those Pinterest boards of yours. Get started in our Vault right this way

From Faye CornhillNotley Abbey Weddings are up there with my favourites and I am lucky enough to have worked there on many occasions. The Abbey is beautiful and elegant in an effortless way. The old stone building is so pretty and offers the perfect backdrop to an English country wedding. The venue has such incredible history having once been home to Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. They were known for throwing lavish Hollywood style parties and inviting exclusive guests such as Marilyn Monroe.

The colour palette for this wedding is definitely a firm favourite of mine. The flowers were a variety of pastel and blush tones and were elegantly presented in a range of crystal ware. Gemma personally collected each piece in the run up to the wedding. She worked with the fabulous Rebecca of Gingerlily Flowers to create magic.

Gemma wore an exquisite low back lace gown made by St Patrick by Pronovias. She teamed it with Benjamin Adams bridal shoes. Gemma’s sister and maid of honour wore a blush gown by The Ivory Room in Wooburn Sands. Gemma’s hair and make up artist was the amazing Gemma Sutton.

After a beautiful ceremony, Gemma, Jon and their guests made their way out to the Notley courtyard for a champagne reception. It was a stunning spring day and the air was filled with the sound of laughter, champagne corks popping and birds singing. Gemma, Jon and I headed to the infamous Notley driveway for some photos – what a beautiful couple! After this we all headed for the barn where a superb Wedding Breakfast was served.

The Prettiest Outdoor Garden Wedding

There’s no denying it, Anya & Phil planned the most beautiful garden wedding in the whole entire world. A classic June affair with soft blush hues and fragrant blooms, their romantic celebration is sure to be your new favorite. Captured by Justin Tearney we’ve got every single detail waiting for you in The Vault!

From the Bride… Phil and I were introduced by my best friend during our senior year of college, at Harvard and Wellesley respectively. After we graduated college, we reunited at the 2012 Harvard-Yale football game in Cambridge, and our relationship took off shortly after with a first date in Manhattan that lasted seven hours. Two years later, Phil proposed in the mountains of my favorite winter wonderland: Whistler, Canada. While I grew up in Hong Kong and Phil grew up outside of New York City, we wanted to get married near DC, which has been our home of the past four years. Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel in Taneytown, Maryland was only the second venue we visited, but we knew this was it as soon as we arrived. Antrim 1844 is a stunning, romantic estate with perfectly manicured grounds – from the shaded Secret Garden where we did our first look to the formal Rose Garden where we held the ceremony to the elegant ballroom overlooking the estate for our reception. The beautiful, light-filled property was perfectly suited to Justin Tearney’s timeless fine-art photography. Given that Antrim would be lush and green in June, we chose soft blush and ivory colors for the bouquets, boutonnieres and ceremony floral arch. We designed a very personal ceremony with Reverend Bill Teyssier and wrote our own vows, which brought many of our guests and bridesmaids to tears of joy. During the reception, I was thrilled to see all of the details I had envisioned come to life, from the garden rose arrangements surrounded by tall candles to our four-tier ombré blush wedding cake and signature His and Hers cocktails. After much dancing, laughter, and champagne, we ended the night with a sparkler sendoff!

Color Is Our New Wedding Must Have

Can we all agree that more color is needed everywhere and always!? Unsure about that? Look no further than this beauty right here. Bursting with blush, oranges and a delightful teal this Southern celebration is giving us life this Monday morning. This Vault gallery, captured by Forage and Film, is my new happy place and rightfully so – get your own mood boost right this way!

From forage and filmThis sweet summer event was full of the most gorgeous details that were not only so beautiful, but also very meaningful!

The day started with friends, family and loved ones, including their sweet dog, sipping mimosas and enjoying the moment. After getting into that gorgeous dress, we were all blown away by the amazing florals. While stunning in their own right, what made the bridal bouquet even more special was that it was a replica of her grandmother’s arrangement from her wedding! The sweet reminder was extra special.

The couple chose to say their vows in a Catholic Church, but returned to the historic mansion for the party, where you could see the groom’s heritage in the Canadian flags placed around on pillows, and corn hole boards. But you also got to see some more of the bride’s heritage, like the stunning blue sweetheart table chairs with their new initials. The chairs were actually the bride’s grandmother’s chairs! They fit with the day just perfectly. But one element we really loved was the lack of cake! In its place was a gourmet ice cream bar! Instead of cutting the cate this amazing couple scooped some ice cream!

We loved the simple yet romantic eucalyptus strung banquet tables which let the beautiful bouquets really shine.

We adored this sweet couple and all the time we got to spend with them and know their marriage will be 10x more beautiful than their perfect day.

From Honey & Cinnamon Italian Wedding Planner… Lost in the beauty of the Tuscan countryside, this bridal inspiration was particularly treasured because of the impressive venue we have found and of the magic you can breathe all around, with its stunning garden, the amazing villa, and the ancient charming atmosphere. That was exactly what we wanted to create and we specifically choose a palette with touches of burgundy and blush to enhance the styling with a vibrant beautiful color. The styling conceived by Federica, from Honey and Cinnamon, was simple but refined in very few details.

“I imagined a delicate and elegant bride, walking down the paths of the amazing Italian Garden, where perfect hedges create an amazing view for the visitor and the wisteria dominate all. We created elegance with a stunning bridal dress created by Anna Fucà Atelier, a very soft gown made or organza with a precious body made with delicate lace. The bride was beautifully prepared by the talented touch of Organic Brides with neutral shades to give this ethereal refined touch. She wore a unique hair piece designed by Orchidée de Soie, shoes by Bella Belle and above all the stunning jewels of Susie Saltzman to give a touch of pure elegance to this romantic set. She was embracing a gorgeous bouquet born from the talent of ISA’ Events, specifically designed loose and messy in the beautiful shades of dusty rose and burgundy of peonies, hellebore, ranunculus, roses and viburnum all together magically mixed. Sophie was able to capture the true essence of this work, giving everything a sense of ethereal elegance. Working with her was pure magic!”

Various the sets we re-created: a walk in the Italian garden, sitting down in the shade of the imposing sculpture where romantic ceremonies are often celebrated and where a beautiful cake created by Alessandra Frisoni was standing for its shots the marvelous view of the Tuscan hills, a romantic table set for two in the lawn in front of the pool where the elegance of the stationery suite conceived by The Little North Sea Studio, a pose in front of the villa and dreaming of her romantic and never-ending love.

Never Underestimate the Power of a Pink Ceiling

Blush colored walls are one thing but a pink ceiling? That’s a whole different ballgame. The head quarters for wedding and event designers Kate & Co have a view that is oh so rosy. Pops of pattern, creative gathering spots, bar carts ready for Mad Men style sipping – this is an office worthy of your most coveted pin board. Get the grand tour designed by Savvy Surrounding Style in the VAULT.

From Kate & Company… This summer, as we raised our glasses to year number four in the wedding industry, we decided to take on a whole new project – moving! Our team of 16 had outgrown our old home on West Monroe, so we knew that we needed a larger and more productive space.

We’ve taken over an old classroom inside the historic J. Milton Turner building in Kirkwood, Missouri. Although the outside appears like a school, we have truly transformed it into an office space all our own.

Coupled with functionality and productivity, the new office enhances the overall integrity of our design work, while our conference room and fully loaded design room offer a one-of-a-kind experience to our clients and guests.

A pop of color [we have pink ceilings!] and whimsical design elements personalize the space. Our floor to ceiling bowtie wall creates a graphic and signature entrance for our guests, while our US map showcases our travels near and far – where will we jet to next?!

Kate’s office and the design room are emblazoned with our signature XO! Our favorite new space is the conference room – where we host client meetings, collaborate on design ideas and host cocktail Fridays – Mad Men Style!

The gallery of photos showcase our work in the perfect light. Our bar height table also allows for a standing work space – which has helped us be even more productive in the new work space!

The design room features a set of shelves that are any designers dream come true! They are the home for all of our mock-up materials – chargers, stationery, linen samples, ribbon – you name it! Our new space is simply just us!

This Pastel Yacht Club Wedding Is a New Take on Nautical

If there’s one thing we love more than well, just about anything, it would be a pastel filled wedding. And this stunning little soiree from Love & Light Photographs certainly doesn’t disappoint. Bursting with nearly nautical details and even an adorable sunset cruise for the newlyweds, we’ve got all that and more waiting for you in The Vault!

From the Bride… When my photographer first asked me how I imagined my wedding would be, I gave her three words: Nautical, Romantic, and Magical. And as I look back on the photos and reminisce on each happy memory, I know I picked the perfect words to describe our day! Rob and I got married at Sacred Heart Church on June 10th, 2016 in Bay Head, NJ and held our reception at Bay Head Yacht Club. Because my family spends the summer in this beach town, Rob and I have come to call it our ‘happy place.’ Having the opportunity to get married at a venue so dear to our hearts was incredibly special. All of the vendors we used for our wedding day were wonderful and we were most thankful to have Details Made Simple to bring everything together for the day-of. Water Lily Designs made gorgeous flower arrangements that brought our blush color theme to life, and Love & Light Photographs captured the day impeccably! Our guests danced all night thanks to Elite Entertainment, I wish we could do it all over again! If I had to pick one special moment from the night that was my favorite, I would have to say arriving by boat to the reception. We were greeted with two glasses of champagne and by all of our friends and family! It was the best start to the best evening.

Handwritten Notes Served as Escort Cards for Their 300 Guests

These two wanted their big wedding to feel truly intimate, so in lieu of traditional escort cards they wrote a personalize note to each and every one of their 300 guests. “Although we didn’t get a chance to speak to EVERY individual person, the notes allowed us to share a favorite memory and thank each guest for playing such an important role in our lives,” said the bride. It’s a meaningful touch with so much heart, and there’s more to love (AvaFlora blooms included) in the gallery from Michelle Lange and film by Bilski Productions.

Danielle and Nicholas’ Wedding at The Carltun in Eisenhower Park from Bilski Productions on Vimeo.

From the Bride… Coming from a big family where Sunday dinners are the norm and no milestone goes uncelebrated – we knew our wedding would be one big party! Nick and I met in college at Hofstra University just down the road from The Carltun, where we were married. When I met Nick I instantly fell in love with his sense of humor and his energy.

It was the day after our first date that I introduced him to my ENTIRE family at my father’s 50th birthday and he immediately fit right in. I am so grateful to have the love of my life by my side through anything life throws our way including two years of long distance between New York and Virginia.

After about a year and nine months of long distance, Nick popped the question in the best way he knew how – by proposing at my parents’ house with all of our closest friends and family watching from inside turning our engagement into one big celebration. Soon after our engagement Nick moved back from Virginia, we moved into our first place together in New Jersey and the wedding planning began!

The first item on our wedding planning agenda was finding a venue that could accommodate our 300 family and friends and could bring to life our vision for a rustic elegant affair. When we first visited The Carltun we instantly fell in love with the classic elegance of the space. The elaborate white molding and wood floors in the ballroom were absolutely breathtaking. The garden area where we would be married was so romantic as its centerpiece is a gorgeous water fountain surrounded by cypress trees.

After selecting our venue we then began to solidify the details of our big day. Our venue helped shape our color palette for our big day. Being that The Carltun was so elegant we wanted to incorporate a neutral color palette into our theme to compliment both the ballroom and the garden area.

When we first met with Lori at AvaFlora I explained our vision and she immediately knew how to bring it to life through a mix of white florals and greenery. The bar which, was the backdrop for my Dad and I walking down the aisle was covered in a green garland. The end of the aisle was decorated with an array of plants and white and green floral arrangements which, were later repurposed as decor for the ballroom and entrance of the space.

Being that we wanted to incorporate a rustic look to our day, we enlisted the help of Dovetail Rentals. They provided draw dropping farm tables to line the front of our ballroom for our bridal party’s table. When we walked into the ballroom the day of our wedding it was perfect! Our head table was lit with candelabra’s and each place setting was met with a simple piece of greenery giving it a cozy aesthetic and making it feel just like a big Sunday dinner.

Throughout the planning process, we wanted to find ways to include our family and friends in all of the excitement. For our favors we chose to give out a bottle of homemade wine as one of our favorite things to do is have a movie night and share a bottle of red wine. In March we got our entire bridal party and immediate family together to bottle and label 200 bottles of wine. This was such a fun day and allowed us to spend time with everyone leading up to the big day.

Being that we were anticipating around 300 guests for our wedding we wanted to find a way to make it feel intimate. Nick suggested we hand write notes to all of our guests and I am so happy we did! The week’s leading up to our wedding we dedicated about an hour a night to write a note to each of our guests. The notes were then carefully placed into an envelope which acted as the seating card for all of our guests. Following our wedding, we still hear about how amazing it was. Although we didn’t get a chance to speak to EVERY individual person the notes allowed us to share a favorite memory and thank each guest for playing such an important role in our lives.

As I worked on the nitty gritty details, Nick coordinated the elements for our wedding that he was most passionate about – the music.

About a year prior to our engagement, we attended our close friends, wedding in Florida where we heard, Bryan Malpass for the first time singing acoustically. That night Nick let Bryan know that the second we got engaged Bryan would be the first to know! Following our engagement – Nick confirmed Bryan to fly in from Florida for our big day to sing me down the aisle.

Our ten bridesmaids walked down the aisle to the acoustic version of “What Makes You Beautiful” and I followed walking down to the acoustic version of “Just the Way You Are” as selected by Nick – they could not have been more perfect.

Following the ceremony Bryan sang during cocktail hour, however, because Nick and I did not get a chance to hear him during that time, Nick requested he play some songs as guests were having their entrees during the reception. As Nick and I were making our way through the tables to greet guests we walked across the dance floor to get from one end of the room to the other but quickly stopped in the middle of the room for one of our all time favorite songs “I’ll Be.” This impromptu dance turned into such a memorable part of the night for us as we were not only the only people on the dance floor but felt like we were the only two people in the room.

After two years of planning, the day came and went so quickly and it could not have been more amazing. Our day was made special thanks to all of the love and support we received from our parents. From my mom going on countless wedding dress appointments with me to my dad sharing our favorite dance (“Butterfly Kisses”) together to Nick’s mom and dad for making numerous trips between Virginia and New York to be a part of every pre-wedding event – we are forever grateful for everything they did to make our wedding everything we could have dreamed of and more.

If we can give any future bride and groom advice it would be to not worry about the small stuff. While some things may not go according to plan don’t stress about it – chances are you and your new hubby are the only ones that will notice it. The day is about you and your husband and the love and excitement you have ahead. Most importantly have fun!

The Ultimate Guide to Using Beauty Oils

I recently started incorporating oils in my beauty routine. To be honest, I didn’t use them for many years because I was a bit intimidated by them—why would I want to make my skin more oily?! But I’ve learned that if you’re using oils properly (and using ones made with good ingredients) they can take your skin to a whole new level. Thanks to Danika, the founder of Oak & Ashland, we’ve got the beauty oil breakdown for you today—read on for her top tips on how to (and how not to!) use them.

APPLICATION

Body oils like our Vanilla Chai go on best when applied right after you have gotten out of the shower, while skin is still damp. This allows your body to easily absorb all of the nutrient-rich oil which will keep skin smooth and silky. When it comes to face oil, it also works best when applied to slightly damp skin. Work in a few drops after cleansing and toning or right after a shower, while skin is still moist.

AMOUNT

Body and face oils are usually very concentrated, making them easy to overuse. Always remember that less is more when it comes to oil. A tiny bit goes a very long way.

APPLYING BEFORE MAKEUP

I always get asked if makeup can be worn over face oil. The answer is YES, but I always suggest waiting 5 minutes before applying makeup over top. This gives skin just enough time to fully absorb all of the face oil, which makes for a super smooth (not greasy) canvas for makeup to be applied over. The Blue Nirvana Face Oil is perfect for this. Also, if you are wondering when sunscreen fits into the routine, it always goes after the oil and before the makeup.

SILKY SMOOTH

If your skin is feeling extra parched and you are in need of some serious smooth skin, try massaging in a generous amount of your body oil all over (avoiding the face) right BEFORE getting into the shower. Once you finish showering, towel off as usual and then apply more body oil or a body lotion and leave on. This will give you a serious glow and rid your skin of any dullness (great for the winter months or before a special occasion).

INGREDIENTS MATTER

There are dozens of choices out there when it comes to beauty oil, but not all are made equal. Choose the ones that list natural plant oils like jojoba, grapeseed or olive-derived squalane, these supply skin with non-pore clogging nourishment and instant smoothness. Another thing to look for is how the oil has been scented. I would steer away from words like “parfum” or “fragrance” which can be irritating, and instead opt for the ones that use pure essential oil. Other ingredients to avoid are mineral oil and alcohol which can dry and clog the skin. Our subtle Floral-Infused Body Oil is ingredient-conscious and smells divine.

NAILS AND HAIR

Get the most out of your body or face oil and try applying a couple of drops to the ends of dry hair or even to nails to keep the cuticles smooth.

KEEP IN MIND

Body oil can be more concentrated with essential oil or fragrance which can sometimes be irritating to the skin on your face. So always remember to keep your face oil for the face and the body oil for the body.

All of the 4 Cs are important, but when it comes to maximizing a diamond’s brilliance, cut reigns supreme. A well-cut diamond with proper angles and facets will catch the light and make the diamond look bigger regardless of its carat weight.

[dotted]

The Shape

With more than 58 facets, brilliant-cut diamonds are mathematically designed to maximize the reflection of light. But, fancy cut diamonds and elongated stones — oval, emerald and marquis cuts — can also look bigger than they are thanks to a large surface area.

The Metal

Making your engagement ring look bigger is all about creating an optical illusion, and the metal it’s set in is a key component. Though rose gold and yellow gold are having a moment, if you want your ring to look bigger, platinum or white gold is the way to go. Like a mirror reflects light and makes a room look larger, a platinum or white gold band will reflect the image of the stone in the metal, creating the illusion of a larger stone.

The Prongs

Normally, you probably wouldn’t pay very much attention to your engagement ring’s prongs, but they also are a factor in how big or small your diamond appears. In this case, it’s all about proportion. The smaller the prongs, the bigger the diamond will look.

[dotted]

The Setting

Choosing a halo setting is probably the most straightforward way to make a diamond look bigger. By putting a ring of smaller diamonds around the center stone, you create more sparkle, and therefore the illusion of a bigger diamond!

[dotted]

The Details

When in doubt, add more diamonds! Choosing a setting with side stones or a setting with a micropavé band has the same effect as a halo setting — it reflects more light and creates the illusion of a bigger stone. Opt for side stones smaller than your center diamond to maximize the effect.

Bouquet Breakdown: A Perfectly Imperfect Peony Dream

Is there anything lovelier than a cloud of peonies? Well now, thanks to Sara Logan PhotographyStephanie Scholl Events and Serendipity Designs, you can create a gorgeous bouquet with this step-by-step how-to. With fluffy, sweet peonies and a variety of foraged greenery, this bouquet is perfect your big day or just because.

[dotted]

From Serendipity DesignsLush, fluffy, romantic, and oh-so captivating, it’s no wonder peonies are often referred to as the “Queen of Flowers.” Find these gorgeous blooms in local grocery stores, farmers markets, or maybe even your neighbor’s garden from late April until June, and sometimes, an unexpected appearance again in December! To start your bouquet, or vase arrangement, first gather your materials and tools:

Materials

  • Simple clippers or flower shears
  • A few yards of gorgeous ribbon (ours is from Bellame Ribbon Co.)
  • Chenille stems or pipe cleaners
  • Floral tape (you can find this, and the chenille stems or pipe cleaners at your local craft store)
  • 5-7 stems of peonies
  • Seasonal and easily attainable greens: foraged blueberry stems, baby peach branches, bay leaves, and gardenia leaves provide the perfect accent for a summer bouquet! Plan on a total of 8-10 stems.

Instructions

Step One

Clean all stems of leaves and foliage about 3/4 of the way up, cut at an angle, and place in fresh water.

Step Two

Begin with 1 gorgeous peony and then add some greens, alternating with a gardenia, blueberry, or bay leaf stem.

Step Three

Continue with your bouquet by adding another peony and again alternating with a stem of greens, turning the bouquet in your hand as you go. Add your stems at an angle to keep a lush and full shape. Keep your hand a bit loose, giving each stem and flower a bit of room to move. This will help in creating a more natural and perfectly imperfect bouquet. (Since the peach stems are a bit more weighty and large, we will save these for last as a focal accent.)

Step Four

Once the bouquet reaches a desirable size, step back and “fluff.” Pull a couple blooms out a little or tuck some blooms lower to create a bit of depth and interest. Now is the time to pop in a baby peach branch to create a lovely focal accent.

Step Five

Add a couple more greenery stems to create more of a wild or garden look.

Step Six

Once your bouquet or arrangement looks just delightful, tie off with a chenille stem or pipe cleaner, twisting gently around the stems. Don’t lose the all the movement and dancing of the flowers! Cut stems to all be the same length. Then wrap stems with floral tape to ensure everything is held together and no wires poke out.

Step Seven

Now either place your gorgeous arrangement in a vase for display, or for a bouquet, simply tie on some lovely ribbons. No wrapping is necessary; a simple bow will do!

The Sweetest Picnic Proposal!

Just when we thought we’ve seen every possible proposal out there, Sarah Pascutti Photography sends along this pretty lil’ picnic. Sun-kissed and totally sweet, this vineyard affair is sure to set your hearts ablazing and we’ve got every delicious bit waiting for you in The Vault!

From Sarah Pascutti Photography I recently traveled to Italy for the first time and let’s just say, when your last name rhymes with “spaghetti,” there’s a good chance you’re going to be hooked! I came back feeling inspired by the colorful streets and passionate people and refreshed from the laid-back lifestyle, that puts family over career, and never turns down a good meal to be shared among friends! Growing up a southern girl, I was ready to put my own spin on what that Italian life would look like back here in the North Carolina summertime. I knew the little details– like including stripes, a linen dress, and my very favorite summer hat, but there also needed to be a mix of cheeses, wine, and, of course, a whole lot of love involved! I then started thinking back on the days I felt most loved and special– of course there was the extremely thoughtful, adventurous day my husband proposed to me but there are also the simpler days, when we spend quality time together, normally outside somewhere, sans phones, being fully present on a spontaneous date (where good food isn’t too far behind). I wanted to create and capture that same joy that comes from the “big” things like proposals, along with the smaller (but just as important) things, like random date nights! And, well, a beautifully styled picnic (thanks to Tiffany at Hart and Co Events) and sunset proposal seemed like a great place to start! All that was left was finding the love. Insert these two passionate people who just so happened to be celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary THE DAY OF THE SHOOT! It seemed like fate was really stepping in now! Since recently purchasing their first house and saving up for graduate school, Madisson and Bryant, being the responsible people they are, planned on having a low-key celebration that day, trading in a romantic getaway for assembling a newly needed shed for their lawnmower (now THAT would be a true lifestyle shoot). Needless to say, I was thrilled when they said they’d give up shed duties for the night and let us take them on a dreamy summer picnic date for their special day instead! They were so deserving and their natural chemistry and love for one another really set the tone for the entire shoot– they’re basically ready to take on Nicholas Sparks’ next project! Well I hope you enjoy my take on the perfect summer engagement! From picnic blanket snuggles to proposals, thunderstorms rolling in to sunsets going out, Summer, thanks for all the fun and romance you bring with you wherever you go! Until we meet again!

#SMPWedding101 – What To Consider When Choosing Where to Get Ready

I’m pretty confident in saying that I thought of almost everything when planning my wedding. Except when it came to where I’d get dressed. I assumed I’d primp and prep where I stayed all weekend but it wasn’t until that morning, with my makeup artist setting up shop and family and friends running about that I realized a different space might’ve been a good idea. Still55 Photography is here to save all you brides-to-be from this mistake – read on for their advice on the easily forgotten getting ready spot!

As Fine Art wedding photographers we are continuously swooning over the inspiring details our couples incorporate into their wedding. With amazing forethought they seem to cover every detail to ensure it aligns perfectly with their style for the day. Every client we work with has their own unique look and feel. Whether it’s a clean, modern look or a whimsical, romantic day, every bride has her own vision. While it usually seems that they have thought of everything, more often than not, a lot of couples overlook the cornerstone to their day, the prep location. If you are in the process of planning your wedding these are 8 MUST KNOW things to consider when choosing a space.

Size

When you and your soon to be husband our researching places to stay for the wedding weekend keep in mind the size of the space. Many times couples don’t realize how quickly a space will fill up on a wedding day. Whether you are renting a home or staying in a hotel, be sure to ask questions about the size of the space you are considering, the height of the ceilings and number of rooms. If you have the chance to visit the space before booking, do so. It may seem large at the time but ask yourself what it would feel like during a party and if you think it will be cramped, it most likely will be.

Decor

Nothing can set the tone as wonderfully as a getting ready space that blends perfectly into your whole wedding. So often the couple has planned their ceremony, cocktail hour and reception to the nines but neglected to consider the decor at the prep location. Don’t make this mistake; take time to research the home or hotel: its colors, floors, furniture and design. Nothing helps create a more cohesive look than paring the prep location decor with your other venues.

Location

They say location, location, location… well not always. Most couples fall into the trap of picking a spot based on location. I tell brides and grooms that adding an hour to their day because the perfect prep location isn’t right next to the reception is totally worth it. If you are concerned about where you will be at the end of the night, book that space separately for late night convenience but don’t compromise on your prep location just for travel convenience. When you look back at your wedding photos you won’t care how long it took you to get to the ceremony.

Light

During your research, consider the amount of natural light the space offers. If it doesn’t have a lot, move on. If it does, your photographer and videographer, along with your makeup team, will be able to perform at their best. Take note of the size and number of windows in the space you are considering. This may seem like a strange thing to think about but trust me when I say you’ll be glad you did when you see your photos!

Visit

Whether you’re getting married at home or you’re planning a destination wedding, you are going to be visiting venues at some point. It’s the perfect time to visit the spaces you are considering in person to make your final decision. We all know most rentals showcase the property in the best way possible but don’t always believe what you see online – go in person to be sure.

Outside

Something you need to think about is not only what the space offers on the inside but also on the outside. Most photographers will want to take the bridesmaids and/or groomsmen outside for group shots, so be sure to tour the grounds to ensure that there will be plenty of options for the photographer to create beautiful images that coincide with your wedding.

Rent

With the advent of VRBO and AIRBNB, renting has never been better! Many times couples think they should be in a hotel but they aren’t always the best choice for pre-wedding activities. Renting a home for the weekend is an incredible way to check all of your must-haves off your list! Online rental platforms allow you to refine your search to narrow down your top picks. Another big bonus to renting is the array of home decors to choose from; homes have so many more options that hotels. As photographers we believe getting ready in a home brings so much more to the table than a hotel.

Visualize

Lastly, imagine yourself in the space with your friends and family. Think about the overall vibe and what it will look like when putting on your dress. If you feel all warm and fuzzy and excited about your daydream, then you’re in the right spot! I encourage you to consider these elements during your planning process. You’ll be so glad you did, you’ll be ensuring a great start to your day, your family and friends will be comfortable and your vendors will be able to perform at their best!
