How To Perfectly Crack an Egg in One Hand

We use a lot of eggs in our household. From omelettes to crepes to Sunday morning muffins, and everything in between. And while this might sound like a silly how-to (doesn’t everyone know how to crack an egg?), I bet you still get shells in your bowl, right? I’ve found this trick to be shell-free, super simple and makes me feel fancy in the kitchen.

How to Crack an Egg in One Hand

With the egg in your dominant hand, place your thumb and middle finger on either side of the egg, with your index finger resting on the top. Having even pressure points help give you an even crack.

Make sure that your ring finger and pinky finger are cupping the bottom portion of the egg.

Crack with medium force on a flat surface. I find my counter works better than the side of the bowl I’m using!

Pull apart your egg by separating your thumb, index and middle fingers from your ring and pinky fingers. Voila! You’ve got a perfectly cracked egg, done with one hand.

Bouquet Breakdown: Romantic Bee Themed Lakeside Wedding in Montana

If you thought this wedding was a stunna, just wait until you see the blooms that built out the Bride’s breathtakingly beautiful bouquet a la Greenwood Events. It’s the type of pretty that’ll have you putting your Saturday on pause and thankfully we’ve got it all waiting for you below!

Romantic Bee Themed Lakeside Wedding in Montana

  • White peonies – 3 stems
  • White clematis with clematis foliage – 9 stems
  • Carmel Antique garden roses – 5 stems
  • blue tweedia – 6 stems
  • Pale yellow globe flower from my gardens
  • white majolica spray roses – 5 stems
  • Quicksand roses – 3 stems
  • white scabosia – 6 stems
  • Martine Guillot garden roses – 6 stems
  • Small amounts of bayleaf, mint and scented geranium
  • Trailing pale blue Frou Frou chic ribbon paired with a mauve lace ribbon

From Greenwood Events…My main objective when crafting this bouquet was to design something fresh, playful and to sing of the beginnings of Summer. The wonderful thing about a client such as our Bride Danielle, was that she trusted me completely. She did not necessary want a loose and flowing bouquet with alot of greenery, yet something with movement and texture. That is really all she asked of me in regards to her bouquet. Therefore, I elevated clematis above all other flowers, in which I layered, and kept much of the foliage on each stem. Also, because Danielle’s eyes are a beautiful light blue, I wanted to use hints of the same color to highlight her amazing feature. I used pale blue tweedia and silk ribbon that matched her eyes perfectly.

The only Decoration You Need this Mother’s Day

I spent a good amount of time on our Weddings side, and one detail that always made my heart flip-flop? A beautiful flower wall. But really, this party trick is fab for any event—and I’m starting to think kind of necessary for every event. Don’t you agree? Well, we’ve got Lark & Linen and The Vault Files to thank for breaking down the insanely easy DIY for us and the result is the definition of lovely.

Materials

Fishing wire
A bucket of flowers and greenery, in colours of your choosing
Scissors
A 3-4′ length metal rod or wooden dowel (alternatively: washi tape)

instructions

Cut your fishing wire to desired length (we cut ours about 4′ long, and we used 8 strands)

Cut each flower, leaving a 2-3″ stem, trimming any fussy leaves

Grab your first length of fishing wire. Leaving 6-8″ or so at the top (so you can tie it to your rod or dowel), begin by tying individual blooms directly to the fishing wire. Every so often, tuck in a few leaves, or double up on your blooms, to keep things interesting. Try to play around with different textures, different colours, and different sizes, ensuring that no two flowers are right next to each other. And keep anywhere from 6-8″ between each bloom. Throw perfection out the window and simply have fun with each strand.

Repeat with remaining strands of fishing wire.

Once you have all of your strands of flowers, carefully tie them at equal intervals to your metal rod. Next, hang your rod on the wall using nails as support. Alternatively, tape each strand directly onto the wall using colourful washi tape.

Blush and Lavender Auberge du Soleil Wedding

Oh how I love a love story. Mostly one that takes place in Italy and ends up with a gorgeous Auberge Du Soleil wedding so pretty I could cry. Every moment of this couples’ gorgeous day was filled with emotion and meaning (they even said their vows in Italian as a tribute to where their story began – so good, right!?) – this wedding, beautifully captured by Clane Gessel Photography, is truly one for the books.

From Clane Gessel PhotographyHow and when did the couple meet?

Don and Katie first met during a study abroad program in Siena, Italy during the winter quarter of 2004. Although they both attended UC Irvine, it took this specific time and place for them to finally meet. Don would admire Katie from afar, but eventually worked up the courage to talk to her one day. During a trip to Rome, Don overheard Katie talking to one of his flatmates about her interests in art, travel and music. He recognized commonalities they shared, and this piqued his interest even more. They were traveling wanderers starting to find their place in life and were drawing inspiration from everything around them. He learned she liked to sketch but hadn’t done so in awhile. With all their shared interests, Don just knew he had to get to know her better.

He made his first move after class one day when he handed her a sketchbook he had purchased especially for her. She opened the book to reveal his hand drawn rendering of the hands from the Sistine Chapel and an inscription that read, “Always treat your interests as divine”. Later that week, Katie went to visit Don to bring him some soup after he got sick on a weekend trip in Milan. She brought him a Venetian glass pen to thank him for the sketchbook, and showed him a drawing she made of the Piazza Del Campo in Siena, Italy. They were not only inspired by their surroundings, but also by what they would learn about each other. Don would later explain that his sketch to Katie was intended to symbolize the act of making a true connection. Sometimes in finding out who you are, you open yourself up to someone finding you. He felt lucky to have had this chance encounter at discovering true love. Katie and Don backpacked through Europe once the program ended and it was during those travels that they both realized their true connection, and could envision spending their futures with each other. Destiny brought them together and the rest became history.

How did the proposal take place?

During a spontaneous trip to Chicago in 2011, Don popped the question at the top of the John Hancock building while they dined at The Signature Room. He had been hiding the ring in his camera bag and was patiently waiting for the perfect moment to surprise Katie. While she was aware of an impending proposal, Katie never anticipated Don could obtain the ring in time for their trip. Unbeknownst to Katie, an elaborate plan had been in the works involving his brother’s friend delivering the ring from SoCal to SF, and Don sneaking away to pick him up from the airport, get the ring, and hide it while she was packing. Katie was so preoccupied with travel preparations that she didn’t even notice Don had left the apartment, let alone that he was collecting such a significant piece of jewelry…

Flash forward to the day of the proposal- Don wakes up early to call Katie’s mom, her brother and Aunt Suzanne to ask for permission. He doesn’t get a hold of Katie’s mom, but her brother and aunt enthusiastically give their blessing, and Katie’s mom texts hers by the end of the afternoon. Meanwhile, they enjoy a glorious day of sightseeing outside in the frigid November air. Don insists on treating Katie to a manicure after she notices her nail is chipped. Then they take an architectural boat tour over Lake Michigan where they catch a sunset against Chicago’s bold skyline. By the evening, Don casually mentions he has made a last minute reservation at the Signature Room for dinner.

Katie felt content to have found her soulmate, and remembered how Don had always wanted to bring her to Chicago, to the city where he was born. She also recalls how he had mentioned he would want to propose to her there and Katie felt a slight pang of disappointment that it wouldn’t happen. She casually wondered how he hypothetically would have proposed had he gotten the ring in time. When Katie asked him, Don paused with an amused look on his face. Then indulged her curiosity by explaining that if he had the ring, he would have proposed right here, and that he would have told Katie how happy he is to be here with her to show her a piece of his childhood. He tells Katie that as his life began here, in the symmetry of it all, he would want his life with her to start here as well and that this day would be the day where we would begin spending the rest of our lives together. Before Katie had a chance to fully process the beautifully romantic proposal that she hypothetically missed out on, something suddenly distracted her. At that moment, Don slowly reaches down into his camera bag and pulls out a small, blue velvet box. He proceeded to tell her, “The thing is, I do have the ring…” And that is literally all Katie could remember hearing him say. He slips the ring onto her finger and she choked out the word, “Yes!”. Then their charming waiter came by and asked them if they’ve just gotten engaged, and enthusiastically makes Don reenact the proposal for him while he took a picture of Don and Katie. Albeit, the second time around, he made Don properly get down on one knee and make a spectacle in front of the onlooking diners.

What was your fondest wedding moment?

That’s a hard question. Everything about our wedding was just unbelievably amazing, emotional, and breathtakingly beautiful. It’s a toss up between exchanging our personal vows to each other in Italian, and seeing each other for the first time during the “First Look” photo session before the ceremony. During both moments, Katie could see Don’s eyes beginning to well up with tears, and she had to consciously stop herself from crying and ruining her expertly applied makeup. There would not have been enough time to redo it. That said, she was crying happy tears on the inside! Interesting facts about you and your spouse that you would like to share.

FUN FACTS ABOUT KATHERINE JOE (KATIE)

Katie is the youngest child of Jeanie and the late Alvin Joe, Jr. She has one older brother, Steven. She grew up in San Francisco, and has lived there most of her life. Since a young age, she was determined by her family to be strong willed, artistically gifted, and very bright. She enjoyed trying to outwit her older brother Steven to keep him on his toes. She loves to spend her time getting lost in a good book, engineering solutions to common household problems, occasionally joining an indoor cycling cult, challenging herself with learning new skills, and cuddling on the sofa at night with Don and their canine compadre, Finn. She takes after her father in her passion for great food, and Don has observed that the way to her heart is usually through her stomach. Her proudest and most recent accomplishment has been competing in a half marathon with Don over this past summer, having trained for less than 5 weeks (not recommended). Katie has finally found her perfect match in Don; his unwavering belief in her inspires Katie to challenge herself beyond her own expectations. She loves and admires Don most for his kind-hearted, genuine and selfless nature. He is truly the most thoughtful person she has ever met.

FUN FACTS ABOUT DONALD BANAYO (DON)

Don is the youngest son of Manolo and Aniceta Banayo. He has two older brothers, Emmanuel and Patrick. Don was born in Chicago, but moved to San Diego at a young age after getting Pneumonia due to his susceptibility to the cold and harshness of Illinois winters. Although difficult for his loving parents, they made sacrifices and took risks for their family and started their new life in California. As a young boy, Don has always been a gifted artist skilled at painting and sketching. He has an affinity for music and would later collect a large number of vintage vinyl records including some of Katie’s late father’s. Although Don has a severe food allergy to tree nuts and fish, it does not hinder his appreciation for great food that he learned from Katie and the Joe Family. He loves all things with a story, a good glass of scotch or a refreshing IPA, enjoys getting lost in a good film, and gets a kick out of muggle technology and all things tech. Don is a man of many interests, is a constant tinkerer, a geek, a dreamer, and a kindhearted old soul. He is often rendered powerless to the smile of his beloved Katie and her fearsome sidekick Finny the dog. Yet even in certain defeat, Don has an everlasting love for the two who serve as his constant inspiration.

Where do you reside and what are your occupations?

We reside in San Francisco’s Pac Heights neighborhood. Don is in mortgage lending operations, and Katie is a property manager.

Who were your favorite wedding vendors?

This is an impossible question! It’s like asking who your favorite child is! All of our vendors were phenomenal and made our wedding go off without a hitch. If you twisted my arm, Amber McKenney of Sweet on Cake was so much fun to work with. Jin Wang of Jin Wang Bridal in San Francisco was instrumental in helping me find the perfect gown. Her attention to detail and honest critique is what makes her a true bridal gown expert. Emily Coyne of Auberge du Soleil was amazing to work with too and went above and beyond in helping us create our dream wedding. She gave us many of the referrals for our other vendors. Paul Stokey of Tesoro Flowers is a magician with floral artistry. He took my vision to another level. Bellarosa String Quartet and DJ Josh Dukes were the best! Sherrie Long, my hair and makeup artist, made me look and feel like a beautiful bride. Her specialty is creating glowing, 3 dimensional bridal makeup looks that photograph extremely well. Kim Remulla, my day-of coordinator worked tirelessly behind the scenes to carry out the little details I planned like filling organza bags with fresh rose petals for tossing. Alex and Ysabel from Say Ya Photo Booth really engaged all our guests and provided such a fun experience with all of their awesome props. And last but certainly not least, our photographer Clane Gessel is such an extraordinary talent. We were blown away by his work from the beginning and never looked back. He knows how to position you to capture incredible shots and spectacular lighting. He made us look like a dream.

What advice do you have for future brides?

Enjoy every moment of your wedding! Don’t stress out on the little details. The day goes by so fast, that you need to remember to take moments for yourself and enjoy everything you’ve created. It’s a beautiful milestone in your life that deserves to be remembered. Having a day-of coordinator is indispensable for allowing you to focus your time on enjoying your big day. Yes, the wedding is a big expense, but for us it was all worth it. Looking back at the photos and videos brings us back to that day and all the love and happy emotions return and remind us of what life is all about.

Bohemian + Laid-Back Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum Wedding

Detachable skirts and bridal separates were one of the biggest trends coming down the Bridal Week runways last season, and it’s no surprise why. With a detachable full tulle skirt to wear over a body-hugging silhouette, this beautiful Bride got the best of both worlds: bridal for the ceremony and sexy for the party. See the dress and so much more pretty from Justin DeMutiis Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…I wanted our wedding to have a laid-back, bohemian feel. We had a neutral color scheme and flowers like baby’s breath, etc. and live music played during the ceremony by one of our friends with acoustic guitar. We used songs by Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley, and Ed Sheeran, which felt more us than the traditional wedding march. Our reception was very informal with no sit down dinner, but instead food stations throughout the house with random tables and cocktail tables. We also had cornhole games and life size Jenga for people to play outside.

Romantic Turks and Caicos Wedding

Turks and Caicos has long been resting atop my bucket list, and this romantic boho meets modern affair is reminding me that it sooo needs to happen… and soon.  From the sweet little details woven throughout each moment (read: personalized coconuts + a s’mores bar) to the breathtaking scenery to the adorable, baseball loving duo tying the knot.  See it all captured beautifully by Brilliant Studios in THE VAULT.

From Brilliant Studios… Brittany and Troy combined their individual styles to create their dream wedding at a stylish boutique hotel in the Turks and Caicos. While both the bride and groom have laid-back personalities, as Brittany put it: “I tend to gravitate more toward the Bohemian vibe, whereas Troy is more of a throwback to the midcentury modern days.”

The couple live in Pennsylvania, where they both work for the Philadelphia Phillies (which is also how they met). When they couldn’t agree on a location for their wedding in the States, they compromised with a destination wedding. They looked at locations all over the world before Brittany found a wedding on SMP that took place at the Gansevoort in the Turks and Caicos — a small chain of islands just southeast of the Bahamas. A year and a half later, they were saying “I do” in the same place.

It was extremely important for Brittany to have a hands-on approach to her wedding, so she brought all decorations, gifts and signage purchased from Etsy vendors for the ceremony and reception. All other elements were left to the couple’s wedding planner, Luise Bayley of NILA Destinations.

Details were key to this wedding — from the delicate florals, to the driftwood arch, to the personalized coconuts filled with rum. Brittany wanted the day to be an “airy, carefree affair” — and it turned out to be nothing less. Brittany and Troy exchanged their vows by the sea under their handcrafted arch, with a rainbow for a backdrop. They had an outdoor reception on a moonlit beach, ending the night with a bonfire in the sand and a s’mores bar.

“The memories of dancing barefoot with my new husband, friends and family under the stars on a Caribbean beach by a bonfire is a feeling we all will hold onto for life,” Brittany says.

But there WAS one thing missing: their 2-year-old Golden Retriever, Archie, who Troy and Brittany are rarely without. It was important to the couple that he somehow be a part of their wedding. Annie Lee from From Scratch TCI swooped in with the perfect solution: Cookie favors, with a particular Golden Retriever in mind. One cookie was shaped like Archie, and the other, a little pink heart.

“All of the vendors we worked with were true professionals, but in the end, almost felt more like friends we had made for life,” Brittany says. “This was a dream come true. Literally.”

Strawberry Almond Milk with Toasted Coconut

I swear, that Waiting On Martha can make just about anything delicious and decadent, and today she is whipping up a Strawberry Almond Milk with Coconut that makes my breakfast look super lame. So if you are looking to take your breakfast or midday snack to the next level (and the complete opposite of mine), she has just the recipe below…

To take your almond milk to the next level, I’m telling you that you need to try it with fresh strawberries and toasted coconut!  While you could really add any fruit, I just love this specific flavor combination. And because I prefer my coconut toasted for that extra crunch I simply pop the coconut into a toaster oven for literally two minutes before adding it into the smoothie.

Depending on what time of year it is, the fresh strawberries will differ in sweetness, so after blending, try a taste and then add a little agave if it needs more sweetness. You can also added cinnamon and nutmeg for warmth, and fresh vanilla bean would create a wonderful vanilla flavor too.

#SMPWedding101 – How to Get – and Keep – Your Guests on the Dance Floor

I look forward to hitting the dance floor at every wedding I’m lucky enough to attend and there are certain songs and artists (I’m looking at you Bruno) that never disappoint. But when putting together your playlist, how do you ensure those tunes get your guests going and keep them entertained all night long? That’s where Guy Avalon, director of SALUT, comes into play. With his tips and insight on how his band rocks weddings, you can pick the entertainment that guarantees swinging success.

SALUT saw a gap in the wedding band market… bands would play each song the whole way through exactly as the original, and guests would often lose interest after only a short while into every song, so SALUT set a rule.. no boring bits! We craft an entire set out of 10 medleys each containing two to five songs (only verses and choruses) – for example, one of our Michael Jackson medleys covers two of his biggest hits succinctly but without losing interest or energy.

With this approach, the set becomes a slick show full of choreographed dancing, and the dance floor is filled for the full two hour set, without any lulls. We find that carefully placing these classic hits with current chart songs is the best way to please an eclectic wedding crowd.

Our current party favourites include:

  • Jackson 5’s “Want You Back” is what we love to start our set with.
  • The Weekend’s “Can’t Feel My Face” has been a huge hit around the world and always does well in the Middle East.
  • Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are” (Live Tour Version) is fantastic for the last dance with the bride and groom in the middle of the dance floor with the rest of the wedding party forming a large circle around them
  • Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” – We very often finish our sets with this smash hit as our encore.

Five secret SALUT songs (less popular tunes but they always go down amazingly well):

  • Oliver Cheatham’s “Get Down Saturday Night”
  • The Beatles’ “Come Together”
  • Stevie Wonder’s “We Can Work It Out”
  • Maroon 5’s “Sugar”
  • Prince’s “Wanna Be Your Lover”

Classic + Elegant Foodie Wedding in Wine Country

Napa Valley and beautiful weddings go together like great wine and delicious cheese—it’s a perfect pairing. And this Sonoma wedding at the iconic Cornerstone Gardens is the perfect pairing of incredible vendors like This Love Of Yours PhotographyA Charming Affair and Bright Event Rentals who executed this gorgeous couple’s vision of “a rustic wine country wedding with a classic, chic, and romantic atmosphere” perfectly. Eat up all the pretty details in The Vault!

From The Bride…Ty and I met five years ago in New York City while playing on a flag football team organized by mutual friends. It was a winter league, meaning a field of frozen snow and very cold players, but Ty told me it was love at first site when he saw me walk onto the field in my “sleeping bag” snow suit and earmuffs. Ty proposed three years later on a hike in Big Sur, California, a few months after we had moved across country to start our new life together in San Francisco.

Following the proposal we were eager to begin planning all the details of our special day. Having spent many of our free weekends since the move in Napa and Sonoma, we both envisioned a rustic wine country wedding with a classic, chic, and romantic atmosphere. We pictured earthy greens, soft shades of lavender, and natural, romantic bouquets of ivory and white florals. We loved the idea of combining rustic wood with modern silver accents. I had always dreamed of a lace dress with a beautiful open back, and fell in love with a gorgeous Liancarlo design that seemed made especially for our wedding.

We fell in love with Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma, as the venue truly highlights the beauty of Northern California, especially for our many out of town guests visiting for the first time. Cornerstone has a stunning vineyard lawn for cocktails and appetizers, a lush tented garden for alfresco dining, and a cozy barn with fire pits for after-dinner dancing. Since we both love hiking and exploring all the great outdoor activities around San Francisco, we wanted to make sure to include local accents like eucalyptus, succulents, and rosemary to represent our West Coast life together. Our amazing wedding planner, Erin Goodrich, was able to further enhance our natural vision by creating a magical display for the table seating cards, with each name pinned beautifully to a sprig of local lavender.

Ty and I absolutely love food and we knew this would be a big part of our special day. We wanted the food to match our rustic vineyard vision, so we focused on sourcing local ingredients to make the day come alive. Given my love of cheese, I decided we had to do something creative for desert. We summoned our favorite local cheese company, Cow Girl Creamery, to assist us with creating a four tiered “wedding cake” made from blocks of cheese, which Erin then decorated with flowers. To ensure Ty’s sweet tooth was also met, we worked with our favorite local bakery, Batter, to create a simple two tired ivory cake along with eight unique varieties of mini-cupcakes. One of my favorite details of our wedding was the “Sweet” and “Savory” signage that illuminated two opposite sides of the barn, highlighting my love for all things savory and Ty’s for all things sweet.

With food there must be great liquor, so we created several cocktails for the special day to complement our vision. The “Mrs.” was a rosemary cucumber Moscow Mule and the “Mr.” was a whisky-based Gentleman Johnson, in honor of Ty’s southern roots. We also sourced all wine and beer from local vineyards and breweries to highlight another of our favorite aspects of living in Northern California.

I know everyone must say this, but our wedding day was truly the most special day of our lives. Ty and I had sore cheeks from smiling and laughing so hard, and every second of it provided different moments of joy. To be surrounded by all of your loved ones at once is unlike anything we had ever experienced. The best piece of advice I was told before getting married was to enjoy every second of the day and not let minor details or nervousness creep in. I could not encourage this more for other brides to be! Take time as a couple to steal some precious moments alone, and savor every second of your special day as it will all be over way too quickly!

Golden Zodiac Themed Birthday Celebration

Admittedly I didn’t know my chinese zodiac sign before poring through this party. It’s a goat in case you were wondering. But this little man is not going to forget anytime soon. For his first birthday, his parents went all out for a golden stallion themed party complete with a sweets smorgasbord and horses galore. Pop over to the VAULT with even more outtakes captured by Christine Choi Photography.

My inspiration for Mason’s 1st Birthday party was “the horse” since that is his Chinese zodiac sign. I wanted to keep the party as sophisticated and elegant as possible and minimize it from being too “kiddie.” With the help of a friend who is talented at party planning, we created a plan that hit most of the elements I was seeking.

The color theme for the party was grey, taupe and gold. I felt that those colors elevated the sophistication of the party. (Also, grey is my favorite color) I wanted to keep the main table for the birthday classy and clean. I selected a simple framed picture of a gold horse as the backdrop and main highlights of the table were the cake, gold letters that spelled out “Mason” that I spray painted, flowers, white porcelain horse heads and some sweets. The guest tables maintained the horse theme with horse figurines (some I spray painted gold) surrounded by flowers in gold speckled mason jars, gold horseshoe confetti and a wood plaques.

Since I knew a lot of the guests’ kids were younger, I wanted to create a play area that the babies could enjoy. So I created a baby section that had a teepee, wooden horse and some toys that the babies could freely play in but also met the theme of the party. The party favors for the babies were these cute wooden horses that I found on etsy while the older kids received horse legos that I was able to track down.

The adults received Bouchon chocolate chip cookies that was decorated with a monogram I had custom-made from a friend with my son’s initials. I’m a huge fan of monograms and feel like it adds a level of sophistication and uniqueness to a party. (I also had one made for my wedding)

Overall, I felt that my vision was executed and I believe my husband was impressed and happy with the results. I am thankful for all my friends that helped me make it all possible and for Christine that captured the party beautifully so it can be remembered and seen indefinitely.

Elegant Seaside Wedding with a Pop of Orange

The wedding industry is a tight-knit circle, and when one of our ties the knot it’s one seriously happy day. In the words of the Bride, Hayley of Laurie Arons Special Events, “The day truly felt like a dream – being able to marry the love of my life while being surrounded by co-workers and vendors that have turned into my family.” That vendor family includes a whole crew of A-list talent, and Joel Serrato captured the images we might never get over. Even more inside The Vault!

From The Bride…It was so fun to be on the other side of the wedding planning process. Laurie Arons and some of our favorite vendors took great care of me, as I was for once the Bride! The day truly felt like a dream  – being able to marry the love of my life while being surrounded by coworkers and vendors that have turned into my family. We wanted our day to be focused on fun, love and happiness. Laurie, Katie, Amy and our team helped create that with little surprises throughout.

Our ceremony on the beach in Half Moon Bay was very family-oriented. Our grandmas were our “flower girls”, our sisters were the ring bearers along with our beloved dog Ted, and Dave’s uncle became ordained to marry us.

We had our reception in Dave’s parents backyard, because it felt intimate and special for our family and closest friends (60 guests). I was wowed when I walked into the backyard to see the beauty that was created just for us – it brought tears to my eyes! Kathleen Deery Design created the perfect seaside setting that included Dave’s favorite color – orange. I loved the nod that Kathleen gave to Dave’s science background, with beautiful florals in test tubes on our bar. Laurie also surprised me with fun place cards that were bright pops of color hidden under the Casa de Perrin pewter chargers.

The cocktail hour was a blast. We 3 specialty cocktails and custom napkins that said “Every great love story begins with a cocktail” (at least ours did). I loved the capiz wind-chime escort display with Samantha Singson-Martin’s calligraphy and the fun lucite cocktail menus by Amber Moon Design.

People are still talking about our wedding meal. We worked with Paula LeDuc Fine Catering to incorporate some of our favorite foods – buttermilk fried chicken, roasted butternut squash, macaroni & cheese and a Spanish salad (we got engaged in Spain). The cake by Perfect Endings was as delicious as it was beautiful.

One of our favorite memories from the day was our sunset shoot – we smiled, kissed and took in being married – while our friend, the super talented photographer Joel Serrato, continually made us laugh. We are already talking about an anniversary party because it was the best celebration we have ever been to!

Charming Church Wedding in Madison, WI

When your relationship has graced the pages of the NYTimes, People, and ESPN, (just to name a few), well you better believe you’ve got the makings of a viral romance. Such was the case for Kate & Brandon who just so happened to meet through an online Michigan football forum, fell in love, and married in a charming church ceremony with The McCartneys Photography behind the lens. Blooming with Daffodil Parker florals and vibrant fall trees, this is one gallery you have to see. Witness it all in The VaultP.S. Got a love story of your own to share? Tell us with #SMPShareYourStory

From The McCartneys PhotographyWe have a romantic Madison, Wisconsin wedding to share with you featuring a couple with an infectious personality and enough humor to fill five football fields! Kate & Brandon took ESPN & countless other media outlets by storm with their incredible love story! These two met on a Michigan football forum online. The story is absolutely adorable and you can watch ESPNs take on it HERE, or People magazine’s version HERE … or New York Times HERE … Or Buzzfeed HERE, or Washington Post HERE, and Sports Illustrated HERE

Their wedding day was cold, overcast, windy & rainy. But none of that mattered because it was Kate & Brandon’s wedding day and they had happiness written all over their faces! With ESPN’s crew there to document their story, the two of them said “I do” along with the most heartfelt handwritten vows at a charming white historic church surrounded by vibrant fall trees and corn fields in Middleton, WI.

Cold & windy or not, Madison, WI makes for a beautiful backdrop. We photographed them around the steps of the Capitol & the Monona Terrace before heading to the University Club where all of Kate & Brandon’s guests were gathered. The University Club is amazing and so romantic. Kate & Brandon styled it to perfection with painted books for table numbers, florals from the amazing Daffodil Parker, miniature animal figurines painted in silver & gold holding each guest’s place card, and of course an encouraging sign featuring a quote from ‘Vodka’ that read, “Trust me, you can dance”. After entering cocktail hour with Brandon as newlyweds, Kate & her bridesmaids took a hand at the Southern cake pull tradition (where sterling silver charms with special good fortune meanings were placed inside the cake and each lady pulled them out by a ribbon just before the cake was cut) before joining the celebrations. Hints of their personalities were everywhere to be found, from “things you may not know about” signs in both his & her stylings to giant bride-and-groom balloons. Everything was 100% them, and Ann Marie from Reve Madison made sure everything was executed to perfection!

Elegant Malibu Rocky Oaks Wedding in Shades of Blue

I see a lot of pretty weddings come across my desk, but there’s always something extra special about a Caroline Tran wedding. And this gorgeous day is no exception. With debonair navy tuxes, a ceremony with circular seating, a sweet cake from The Butter End Cakery and chic reception décor outfitted from Borrowed Blu and Wildflower Linen, it’s safe to say I’m in love with every detail of this beautiful day. See all the pretty in The Vault!

From Caroline TranPerched on the peak of the Malibu mountains, this estate’s helicopter pad was the majestic setting for this couple’s ceremony. Joy and Victor celebrated overlooking views of rolling hills and the pacific ocean. Ghost chairs circled the helicopter pad, surrounding the couple as they exchanged vows. Instead of a unity candle, they mixed together their favorite wines. Guests then enjoyed a gourmet dinner and the couple’s favorite wines under the stars.

From the Bride…I wanted clean and simple so I chose all white flowers with lots of rich green foliage and accents of gold. I planned my whole wedding on Pinterest! What did brides do before this amazing resource?!

I had actually never been to our venue before I started planning our wedding but since it opened I knew I wanted to get married there. It is industrial without being cold and modern without being too hipster. The owners were shocked when we went for our tasting and realized had never tried their food before.

My favorite wedding moment was, of course, marrying my best friend ;). I really loved standing at the alter and looking out at all the smiling faces of our friends and family from near and far that came to celebrate with us. My least favorite part was when my daughter tried to pull my hair out while I was holding her during the ceremony.

My advice for couples is to remember that it is one day in the rest of your lives, don’t take it too seriously. It goes by in a blur and you want to remember the happy moments not the stressful ones.
