The Darrow School Wedding from Shane Godfrey Photography

Yes, this wedding is filled to the brim with pretty. Gorgeous Berkshire vistas, lovely florals from Heavenscent Floral Art, and a swoon-worthy dress by Saja Wedding. But beyond all of that, what makes this wedding truly special, is that it is overflowing with heart. The type of emotion that just seems to seep through every gorgeous image snapped up by Shane Godfrey Photography. It’s enough to make your heart swell with happiness, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From Shane Godfrey Photography… My second shooter and I arrived the night before the wedding for the rehearsal dinner at the Darrow School in the Berkshires. The Darrow school is a private stay away elementary and middle school which seems to be focused on science and the environment as they have a huge greenhouse that processes all the water that comes from the bathrooms and kitchens and turns it back into clean drinking water. Heather and Zach rented out all the dorms so that all of their guests coming from all over the world could stay on site for the weekend. Needless to say, the grounds were beautiful, the couple was madly in love, and all of their guests were an extremely welcoming and close knit group, which all leads to amazing photographs. After staying in the dorms on Friday night, we woke up to non-stop rain and tornado warnings while Heather got ready in the library and Zach got ready in the main hall with his groomsmen.

After the tisch and bedeken, the men sang their way across the grounds through the rain and Heather and Zach saw each other for the first time that day in front of all their closest friend’s and family. We then went downstairs to sign the ketubah and finally the sun broke through the clouds and the beautiful mountain view appeared as we made it over to the barn where the ceremony was held. The ceremony went off with a lot of laughter as everyone was engaged and smiling for the couple all the way through, we even saw a tear or two.

We did all the photos of the bridal party, family, and bride and groom right around the Barn where the Ceremony was held. The light was perfect as it came over the mountains and onto the main field at the Darrow School. Pictures were a breeze as the couple were clearly very much so in love and were up for having a lot of fun in front of the camera. The night went on to have a friend of theirs DJ the wedding, mostly with vinyl records and it sounded amazing. There were a lot of heartfelt toasts as a few of Zach’s siblings were adopted and they were all very close so they each wanted to say something, as did both of their parents.

Atlanta Ballroom Wedding from Belle of the Ball Events + Matt Yung Photography

I want to live inside this wedding.  Like cozy on up forever just so I can spend every single day soaking in every fabulous detail planned to perfection by Belle of the Ball Events.  And I am not kidding.  Because this is the kind of wedding that is sooo amazing and sooo full of beautiful moments, it deserves its very own virtual dance party.  One we’re starting right here, right now in the full gallery captured by Matt Yung Photography.  Join us there for all of the pretty.

From Belle of the Ball EventsWith the expertise of Atlanta-based planner, Eva Clark (Belle of the Ball Events), Pennsylvania residents, Monique and Dan, spared no attention to detail: gracefully syncing their deep-rooted traditions with their charismatic, yet poised, dispositions and style. The end result being a special keepsake, not only for themselves but the guests, who were fortunate to experience such a lovely affair.

The Georgian Terrace, a setting rich with history, modern refinements and romantic details proved the perfect atmosphere for Monique and Dan’s fun and lavish Jewish wedding. A night rich with tradition and sincerity easily transformed into a night of celebration for all. There’s was a deep, palpable affection between these two, providing intimacy and allure. This kind of love is the cornerstone of any great wedding.

The happy newlyweds traveled to South Africa, the bride’s home, the following weekend, for an intimate, outdoor Christian ceremony.

Wisconsin Lake Wedding from Heather Cook Elliott Photography

Lovlies, we have quite the treat for you today. It starts with this Wisconsin soiree which somehow manages to be elegant and chic and casual and warm all at once, and it ends with yet another dose of Heather Cook Elliott Photography this afternoon. Yep, you heard me. Two beautiful weddings that our lady Heather captured phenomenally, because we’re big fans. First up, we’ve got love on a lake.

From the photographer… Maria & Dave have a magnetism about them that draws everybody in – into conversation, into laughter, into their lives, into something special. Their wedding day was a testament to that magnetism – and to how full their lives are now and how impossibly full they will grow to be. On a sunny day in June they met on a dock, in the wind and said I love you. I can’t wait to marry you. That wind played with Maria’s veil and their favorite people laughed and cheered them on (as did many boaters motoring by during the lake side ceremony) and they just sort of melted into a perfect day to say I Do.

I adore their easy style that is at once down home and rustic, but a bit refined and frilly. Maria DIY’d many things and basically thought of everything to keep guests happy. I’ve never seen so many children at a wedding – 30 or more – who played with their kid entertainment treat bags and begged for pictures with Maria & Dave. I caught a glimpse of two cousins playing at wedding (the “groom” opted to wear a Spider Man mask) after dinner and more smiles than I could count in every direction I looked. Maria carried a dragonfly pin on her bouquet to memorialize a beloved cousin of Dave’s who died of cancer too young at 16 and her earrings were her grandmother’s – the family matriarch, loved and revered and recently passed. But the atmosphere was jovial and sweet and celebratory – both of Maria & Dave, but also of the family members that had made them who they are today.

When it was time to dance Maria and Dave shared a sensual, sweet, totally romantic moment where I think everyone in attendance saw what real love looks like when it decides to dance. I have a feeling Maria & Dave dance together a lot, just the two of them, alone in a room full of people.

New York Botanical Garden Wedding from Charlotte Jenks Lewis

As a ballroom bride myself, there’s no hiding the fact that I have a heart for the classics. The black and the white, the pomp and the circumstance, and that all around sense of elegance that comes with a traditionally crafted “I do.” And this New York Botanical Garden affair? Well, it’s all of the above. Made even lovelier through the lens of Charlotte Jenks Lewis, this is one full gallery you can’t afford to miss.

From the Bride… In March of 2012, Aaron told me we had to go to a cocktail party for his med school at Real Artways, the cinema where we saw a movie on our first date, which also doubles as a gallery and event space. We arrived to be told we were the first to arrive. I was actually sort of annoyed because I had raced home from work and changed as fast as I could so we could get there right on time when the event supposedly started. I probably should’ve known something was up because Aaron said it started at 5:45 pm. What starts at 5:45? My engagement did apparently! Because we were “the first to arrive,” one of the people that worked at the theater asked if we could wait in the theater while they continued to set up. We sat in one of the rows and waited. Within thirty seconds, my favorite Billie Holiday song “The Very Thought of You” started playing. I kept saying to Aar “did you do something?” and he kept saying “no, this is weird! I have no idea what’s going on!”

Finally, “I Believe” by Stevie Wonder came on, which we used to listen to when we first started dating, and then a slideshow of photos of us throughout our relationship started on the big screen and that’s when I knew. I started crying. Finally, after the Stevie song, another song came on but I couldn’t place who was singing or what song it was. I started to silently panic because I figured that the song must be from an important time in our relationship and I was feeling so bad that I couldn’t place it at all. After about a minute, I turned to Aaron and just said sheepishly, “I don’t recognize this song, who is this?” and he said “It’s me.” He had written the song and gone to a recording studio where he sang and played guitar, even overlaying his own voice for the harmonies and then he had the track professionally mastered!

It was the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard and on the recording, at the end of the song, he had recorded himself saying “I love you, baby, will you marry me?” When I looked over at him, with tears in my eyes, he had the ring out! After I said yes, he asked me to dance, and the last song that came on was “our song,” which is “Slow Dance” by John Legend. After our first dance as an engaged couple, we came out of the theater to applause from everyone that worked there! They had a table set up with champagne and they had laid out an amazing spread right in the theater. The manager of the theater gave us the poster of the movie we saw on our first date (which we now have framed and hanging in our living room!). I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect engagement.

As far as wedding planning went, we knew we wanted to be outside, at least for part of the wedding! One of our favorite things to do is to take long walks in beautiful scenery, so the New York Botanical Garden was perfect because of their private ceremony space surrounded by the lush gardens and beautiful greenery all around you. I used Pinterest to track down images of the type of dreamy, romantic, candlelit, garden wedding that I dreamed of and every single one of our vendors brought our vision to life! Naomi Martin and Chris Jobes of Martin Jobes Design took our Pinterest inspiration and had the idea of bringing the garden inside for the reception with gorgeous peonies, ranunculus and hydrangeas and greenery everywhere we looked along with beautiful mercury glass candleholders with long romantic candlesticks. Naomi’s display of mock privet over our escort card table still takes my breath away. It was so dramatic and beautiful.

Continuing our garden theme, Rob Charlton at Goosefish Press hand drew the Enid Haupt Conservatory for our gorgeous invitations. Callie Tein at Modern Trousseau couldn’t have dreamed up a more beautiful or fitting dress than the Ellis with its intricate, delicate, lovely flowered lace and ethereal organza bottom. I am SO excited that I was the first bride to try the Ellis on and to wear it at my wedding! Callie and her amazing team custom fit the dress to me using a muslin fit process in her studio in Woodbridge, CT. The flowered lace was just so perfect for my wedding and I loved working with everyone at Modern Trousseau! I could never have even found my dress and my dreamy cathedral veil without Anneke Lee Sharp, my lovely and amazing bridal consultant at the White Dress by the Shore in Clinton, CT, who laughed and cried with me through everything.

Our music was really important to us, especially because Aaron is a musician in his spare time, so we were thrilled with the Kenny Ford Band who really rocked it all night and kept everyone dancing, even playing our special request Pearl Jam “Yellow Ledbetter” for one of our slow songs, which is the only time I’ve ever heard that song played at a wedding (and the only time Kenny’s ever played it at one!). Kenny and the band also backed up my amazingly talented brother-in-law, Eddie, for a rendition of “Just the Way You Are” which knocked everyone’s socks off and didn’t leave one dry eye in the house. Finally, Abigail Kirsch really made everything so easy for us and our event coordinator Steph Hill is just a truly amazing human being in every way. It was really our privilege to work with her!

Last, but not least, Charlotte Jenks Lewis has been a rock for me through it all. I first met Charlotte pretty soon after we were engaged and we clicked right away (especially being fellow Vassar College grads!) and I’ve had the opportunity to get to know her over the past year and a half. It really is amazing how much you rely on your photographer and I couldn’t imagine having my wedding day without Charlotte who comforted me, calmed me and made things happen! Aside from her stunning, dreamy, ethereal photos, she is the biggest doll in the world and I am fortunate to have been able to work with her and her talented team.

Library Inspired Baby Shower

Morning, lovelies! Monday is always a bit of a slow start for me…but we’re easing our way into all of the fun we have in store for you this week with just the right amount of pretty. Starting with a lovely baby shower that quite frankly, is the perfect inspiration for celebrating babies or brides, birthdays or random tuesdays just the same. Sent in by the talented Dina of Honey & Fitz with imagery by the equally fabulous Ruth Eileen, this will most definitely start your week with a smile. Click here to see the whole gallery.

From Dina of Honey & Fitz…I once heard my favorite Food Network chef Ina Garten, aka The Barefoot Contessa say that your guests don’t have a better time if you spend hours in the kitchen preparing. That really rings true for me, especially now that I’m a busy mom of 2 boys under 3! I love to entertain. I love to dream up party themes and menu plan and all the fun stuff that comes with throwing a great party. But my days of leisurely wandering down the aisles of my local Whole Foods in search of just the right items are behind me (at least for a little while!)

That doesn’t mean I don’t still love to throw a party…I’ve just had to learn to do it in a different way. When my college roommate announced she was expecting her first child, I knew I wanted to host a little get together at my house to celebrate the joyous occasion. I kept things manageable with a small guest list for afternoon luncheon on the porch. I invited guests to forgo the usual baby registry items (which I knew the mom-to-be would be receiving at the much larger shower her family was throwing her) and instead select a few of their favorite books to start baby’s library.

I found an adorable Rifle Co. printable from a few years back, modified it just a bit to fit my shower and had it printed at my local Kinko’s. Guests received bookplate stickers with their invitations which they used to customize the inside cover of their selected books. A few choice crafts such as pom-pom bookmarks (for placecards/favors), a star garland created from vintage book pages, and a tiny book cake garland kept the theme going (and were worked on during my kids’ naps!) I used one of my son’s bookcases to create a little library area for the party in my dining room. It was so fun to watch it fill up as guests arrived and placed their books on the shelves!

The morning of the party, I put up some festive honeycomb tissue balls, moved my kitchen chairs out to the porch and set the table. Trader Joe’s flowers and hors d’oeuvres came to the rescue! BBQ sliders, macaroni and cheese balls, chicken parmesan lollipops and watermelon wedges all took on an instant party flair when thoughtfully arranged. Even the cake came from my local grocery store. I requested the bakery leave it plain and embellished it at home with some yogurt stars (again from Trader Joe’s) and a sweet garland of the tiniest little books.

My goal for this party was really to prove that you can pull off something fun and festive without being a frazzled mess by the time the first guest arrives! Everyone is busy but don’t let your preconceived notions about throwing a party keep you from getting together with those you love and celebrating even the smallest of occasions. Yes, we’d all love to serve our guests beautifully prepared-from-scratch food but isn’t it even better to keep things easy and not be stranded in the kitchen for the duration of the party? Cheers to that!

Vineyard Wedding from Caroline Rocchetta Photography

It’s funny how giddy I can get just from looking at two people in love, but it’s something I just couldn’t adore more. And when I get to see that love unfold through images like these from Caroline Rocchetta at a gorgeous winery like Paumanok Vineyard, I feel like I’ve struck wedding-gold. There isn’t a better way to start your morning, so fill up your cup of jo, and join me in the full gallery.

From Caroline Rocchetta PhotographyCorey & Chris have the kind of love that exists in fairytales. They were truly born for one another and anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing them will attest to it. It was at Paumanok Vineyard where they first met and fell in love, so it was certainly the perfect place to be wed, among the vines, and at the edge of a golden meadow. The evening sky was spectacular and beneath the tent felt like a new and brilliantly glowing galaxy. It was their world and it could not have been any more amazing.

Chris’ mom did all the flowers, making sure to include lots of oats and wheat which is symbolic of fertility… someone’s excited to someday be a Grandma! Corey & Chris raised all of the oysters themselves!

Dark Horse Catering prepared an incredible “farm to table” family style dinner, which of course featured their very own locally raised Bison. Chicken was provided by Corey’s & Chris’ friends at Deep Roots Farm in Orient. And freshly caught fish was provided by a friend.

From Stephanie A Smith Photography… Wow. Where do I begin with this wedding? I absolutely adored Jaime and Gus. What’s not to love? They are an amazing duo who had a fabulous team of vendors working on their day. I feel blessed to have been able to document their day. The food was fantastic, the color scheme {including the color blocked bouquets}, the band, and the getaway boat all embraced who Jaime and Gus are… A pretty cool couple is you ask me.

Rancho Las Lomas Wedding from Josh Elliott Photography

As a designer herself, the Bride behind this Rancho Las Lomas wedding was completely and totally hands on. From the sleek ivory, gold and navy color palette to the hints of moroccan decor, Katie Noel worked this wedding into a beautiful, classic partay to celebrate her and her new hubby. And she had some awesome help too from the likes of  The Vine’s Leaf on the floral and design side and Josh Elliott who truly captured every pitch perfect moment of this day. Have a look here for more.

From the Bride… Some couples know, from the day of the engagement, what type of theme and colors they want for their wedding. We were not one of those couples. We took the time to plot and plan and find inspiration from everywhere we looked. But, the more research we did and pictures and websites we looked at, the more overwhelming everything began to feel. Jonathan and I played around with a lot of different ideas, but tried not to lose sight of the fact that, overall, we wanted our day to be romantic, intimate, exotic, and elegant—without being stuffy. It wasn’t until we visited the beautiful Rancho Las Lomas that our vision started to come together. It had Spanish architecture nestled within lush greens, tall palm trees, and even was home to many unusual animals along with my favorite—tigers! We fell in love with the venue.

Earlier in the year we took a wonderful vacation to Cabo and thought maybe it could inspire some of the feel of our wedding day. We stayed at Cabo Azul which was exotically tropical with slight Moroccan touches—think dramatic dark woods, lanterns, candles, and fresh white linens. We knew we wanted to incorporate some of those same elements and recreate the feel for our guests as a romantic getaway, and Rancho Las Lomas was the perfect place to do it.

Since the location was so beautiful on its own, we kept things simple—ivory and navy blue color scheme with accents of gold. Being a graphic designer, I couldn’t wait to design my own invitations and other paper-goods including the programs, menus, drink flags, signs, and more. It was a lot of work but I slowly chipped away at certain projects, so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed all at once. I enlisted the help of some of my bridesmaids and made mini candles for the favors with a chalk-painted top so I could write “thank you” in a gold-ink chalk pen on each one. We really wanted our guests to feel welcomed, comfortable, and appreciated for sharing our special day with us.

As guests walked in and down through a charming cottage to get to the ceremony area, we placed a picture-story of our lives in frames (cheap white ones bought on Amazon that we spray-painted gold) starting with each of our parent’s weddings, baby pictures of each of us, and other milestones until we met, then of course big moments we had together. I wanted relatives from both sides who might not know Jon or me very well to get a sense of “us” both individually and where we have been as a couple leading up to this day.

The ceremony was by far the most memorable for both of us. We had musician friends re-arrange and play some of our favorite songs for the ceremony. Using just a guitar, piano, and cello, the instrumentation was simple and elegant, and the familiar songs playing in the background really grounded the ceremony for us both. Songs for the seating of the parents and bridesmaids included “Emmylou” by First Aid Kit, “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams’ version of “Wonderwall” by Oasis, which led right into my walk-down-the-aisle song: “Angels” by the XX. The recessional was “Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay.

Aly from the The Vine’s Leaf was a huge part in making all the details come together. She was my florist, stylist, and coordinator! She made the gorgeous gold-tipped feather-escort cards not to mention all the beautiful flower arrangements and designed the table settings. We opted for the dark wooden tables with an ivory runner and gold chargers for the reception. We had lots of candles and lanterns to give it a warm amber glow and romantic feel. We didn’t want any huge flower arrangements getting in the way of guests talking so we kept them low and simple yet still full and pretty. It felt like a big family dinner celebration, which was perfect. The meal concluded with mini churros (one of my favorite treats) and of course, later, macaroons and a gold-painted fondant-covered cake adorned with a few peonies.

Our photographer, Josh from Josh Elliott Photography, did an amazing job capturing both the big moments and the small details beautifully. He made us feel comfortable, gave great direction when needed, all the while making it a fun and memorable experience.

My words of advice are hire the vendors you trust—then trust the vendors you hired. Communicate what inspires you and what your vision is but also trust them—they do this for a living. As a designer, I understand how much more inspired I will be if someone allows me creative freedom rather than trying to micromanage. What they come up with may surprise you in the best ways. And if you’re doing most of it yourself, start early, take one project at a time, and don’t be shy to ask for help. At the end of the day, you will be married to the person you love. Don’t stress about the details—take it all in and enjoy the fleeting moments. I thought the whole day would pass by as a blur, but we soaked in as much as we could, and it will be one of the most cherished days of the rest of our lives. It was a huge blessing to have everyone we love in the same place celebrating our happiness with us.

Moroccan Birthday Luncheon + Preserved Lemons Recipe!

Oh darlings, do we have the prettiest of parties to send you off into the weekend with! It’s Moroccan perfection, planned beautifully by Victoria Cameron and inspired by one of her own sweet gals, Mikka. Layered with the most vivacious color palette, out of this world blooms and mouth-watering goodies (including a recipe for preserved lemons!) shot by Ale & Kim Photography, we’re breaking down this gorgeous luncheon with Victoria and the birthday girl herself.

From Victoria… Last month Mikka celebrated her 25th birthday with her closest friends at a beautiful Moroccan restaurant found in Brisbane’s urban hub also known as The Valley. It was the perfect destination with Mikka dreaming of a balmy summer and falling in love with all things Moroccan—the textures, colours and cuisine.

As well as being a dear friend, Mikka is also part of the Victoria Cameron family, so this gave us even more reason to celebrate! Mikka and I teamed up to create a vibrant Moroccan inspired event with a few DIY elements thrown in for good measure. Don’t you just love the homemade ikat table runner and lemon preserve?!

From Mikka… At the time that Victoria and I were discussing my upcoming birthday, I was reading “Marrakesh by Design” by Maryam Montague. Getting lost in the pages, I was wishing I could jump in Mary-Poppins-style and get lost in a souk searching for treasures. So when we thought about a style for the celebration, Morocco was the first inspiration. It is so enchanting, the colours, patterns, textures and of course, the food.

Everything started with sourcing the fabric for the runner and when we found the ikat print, we knew instantly it was going to be the perfect base to work from. Add in contrasting fuchsia, eggplant, and turquoise stationary with a geometric design, gold cutlery and brass vases to tie everything together and we created a stunning modern Moroccan luncheon. The florals from Stem Design were perfection. The poppies which were at the height of their season were simply stunning.

I am a self-confessed foodie so one of the highlights of the day for me was the food! The luncheon at Gerard’s Bistro was perfection. Not only did the food fit well with the style of the decor but it was out of this world delicious. Everyone loved it and has not stopped talking about it since. I also love events to have a personal touch and I love to give a hand made gift to guests. The preserved lemons were greatly appreciated and my friends have been able to take the memories from the day home with them and remember time and time again as they use them in the future. The recipe was based on one I found online some time ago, I was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to make them. Keep reading for the recipe!

The biggest highlight for me were the smiles & laughs from my friends and family because after all, “dining with one’s friends and beloved family is certainly one of life’s primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal.” I couldn’t agree more with Julia Child.

Preserved Lemons
prep time
20 Minute/s
cook time
total time
20 Minute/s
Serves 0Ingredients
  • 8-10 Meyer lemons, scrubbed very clean (You don't have to use Meyer lemons, regular lemons will do, but the milder Meyer lemons work very well for preserving in this way)
  • 1/2 cup fine rock salt, more if needed
  • Extra freshly squeezed lemon juice, if needed
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cloves
  • Sterilized 250mL jar
Instructions
  1. Place two tablespoons of salt in the bottom of the sterilized jar along with half a cinnamon stick and 4-5 cloves.
  2. One by one, prepare the lemons in the following way. Cut off any protruding stems from the lemons, and cut 1/4 inch off the tip of each lemon. Cut the lemons as if you were going to cut them in half lengthwize, starting from the tip, but do not cut all the way. Keep the lemon attached at the base. Make another cut in a similar manner, so now the lemon is quartered, but again, attached at the base.
  3. Pry the lemons open and generously sprinkle salt all over the insides and outsides of the lemons.
  4. Pack the lemons in the jar, squishing them down so that juice is extracted and the lemon juice rises to the top of the jar. Fill up the jar with lemons, make sure the top is covered with lemon juice. Add more freshly squeezed lemon juice if necessary and top with a couple tablespoons of salt.
  5. Seal the jar and let it sit at room temperature for a couple days. Turn the jar upside down ocassionally. Put in refrigerator and let sit, again turning upside down ocassionally, for at least 3 weeks, until lemon rinds soften.

St. Pete Beach Wedding Film from Voila Cinematic

We get our fair share of romance here at SMP. Aside from the obvious insider’s peek into every beautiful wedding that graces our pages, we get to hear a few love stories along the way. And this one takes the cake (it’s all spelled out by the stunning bride below). Voila Cinematic captured a love story worthy of the big screen, and we love, love, love it.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/59949295 600 338]

From the gorgeous bride… Four years ago and the first day of my new job, I met a very handsome colleague named Kosta, who happened to work for the same branch of government as me in New Jersey. I wouldn’t say it was love at first sight, but there was no denying the sparks between us when we first locked eyes. Neither of us was available at that time and even if we were, there was no breaking that golden rule of not dating people you work with. A few weeks later, my office moved and one year later he randomly showed up at my office to just to say hi. Same sparks, but this time we were both living single and were no longer working in the same office. To my surprise, I later received an email from him asking if I wanted to go out sometime. We played it safe making it an ‘unofficial’ work date, but it was obvious there was something brewing between us… fireworks!

One week later, Kosta asked me out on an ‘official’ dinner date. Prior to meeting, he sent me a text that said, “I booked us a vacation!” (What? Is he crazy!) Over our dinner date, Kosta would not disclose where this vacation was taking us, but that he had booked it four months ahead. So I said to him, “Well what happens if we are not still dating by then?” He simply said, “Well, it was a good deal for a date.”

Over the course of four months, we only went out on two more dates. We both decided that neither of us was really ready for a serious relationship and we remained friends. After not having talked to Kosta for some time, I randomly texted him asking if he would be my date to an upcoming wedding. Thankfully he accepted and we ended up having a blast! At the end of the night with no further obligation to ever see each other (at least I thought) he asked me if I was still interested in going with him on that trip he booked and that I had completely forgotten about! I accepted and found myself spending an amazing few days in sunny St. Pete Beach, Florida where I fell in love with the man and the place. The rest is history.

For anyone that knows Kosta and I, we live our lives outside of the box. Traveling is something we love to do and we do a lot of it. So when Kosta planned for us to vacation at a hotel in St. Thomas there was no other thought except that this was another great vacation and we were going to have the time of our lives. To my surprise, Kosta had a few tricks up his sleeve and we actually ended up in St. John at the most gorgeous mountain top villa I have ever seen. To further the surprises, Kosta rented us a private catamaran for the day to sail around the islands and then proposed to me at sunset.

We are one of few couples that can actually say we planned our wedding together. From wedding eve to wedding day, there was not one piece of this epic two night event, that did not come straight from both our hearts and souls. Our wedding reflected our personal taste and style, but was also heavily inspired by things that have deep personal meaning to us or that have a story behind them. For one, we decided to have a destination wedding in St. Pete Beach, because that’s where we fell in love. What you see in the photos and video highlight is a true reflection of us as a couple and our most special day!

Our wedding was a unique blend of the Old Greek Orthodox traditional church ceremony paired with a contemporary twist to an Old Hollywood Glamour reception. As my husband is Greek, it was his dream to get married in a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony. So it was a major plus to find St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpon Springs, Florida which is one of Florida’s oldest Greek churches. The tempura painted icons in the arch and ceiling of the Church, along with its original marble floors and chandeliers makes this Church beautiful and breathtaking. The unique style of this Church can only be found in old monasteries in Greece. Our reception was held at the Loews Don Cesar Hotel, also known as the ‘Pink Palace’ in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Kosta and I were so inspired by the Don’s unique history dating back to 1928 and the lavish living of prohibition times, that we used that as our theme for planning our rehearsal dinner and reception.

Our reception theme was “A Night to Remember” Old Hollywood Glamour Style, and boy was it ever! An intimate candlelit room showcased a unique set up of one large table in the shape of an X so that all guests sat together. The table was laid with sumptuous black textured linens with a black and white damask runner, accented with silver candelabras, an abundance of soft classic white and off white flowers, including hydrangeas, garden roses and ruffled tulips. Finishing the table was an ivory three tier textured cake accented with a simple jeweled broche and feather, placed at the center of the X table giving a dramatic look. The colored up lighting illuminated the swag covered walls creating the illusion that the walls changed color. The dining room connected onto an open veranda outside where a black and white monogrammed dance floor stood underneath a swag covered pergola finished with a hanging chandelier with offset white lounge chairs for added seating. And to add a little more ‘wow’ guests looking over the veranda could see our monogram being illuminated in the grand pool given off by a custom gobo light.

The colors, aesthetics, presentation and orchestration of our events would not have been what they were without the help of a great team who saw our vision and helped us bring it to life. And the amazing cinematography and photography that captured it all allow for this greatest day of our lives to be relived every time. One of the best things we did in our planning was to hire Georgia Watson, professional wedding planner or as we like to call her a wedding engineer. She found us amazing vendors and orchestrated a flawless weekend filled with love, joy and beauty.

1950s Style Picnic from Anne Robert

Like many 80’s born kids, I went through that awkward phase at the ripe old age of 13. You know the one – the tear-away pants, butterfly clip saga? Well, I bring it up because I’m convinced that Anne Robert and Bliss Weddings could even make THAT era look good. Those two are simply magical. One look at this 50’s inspired picnic with the perfect vintage decor from Something Vintage Rentals and you’ll see exactly what I mean. And per usual, there’s a whole gallery where this came from.

The brains behind this summer barbeque were Emilie from Bliss and Dawn from Something Vintage.  A true 50’s shoot, many of the items came from the actual time period.. the dress, bike, dinnerware, silverware, vases, seating and most of the items seen  are all vintage. Dawn has a collection of furniture and things that gets you giddy. The beautiful flowers and calligraphy are beautifully done and the food was not only straight from an organic farm but all things tasted were moved to my crave list! SMP Living Spotlight!

It’s become a bit of a Friday tradition to put a quick pause on the wedding world and talk all things Living. And boy, do we have some serious fun in store. From fashion to decor to a chocoholic’s heaven, I’m predicting this Living spotlight goes down as the best one ever.

Remember our Grandma’s favorite recipe contest? Well, on Wednesday we shared the top 10 grammy-approved dishes and left the voting up to YOU — the ultimate taste-testing experts. One of our very favorites? These devilishly delicious homemade snicker bars. So bad, yet sooooo good.

Pinning happens to be one of very favorite past times, but let’s face it, it can be more than a little frustrating when sourcing your favorite items is a no-go. So SMP Living broke down their favorite bedroom pin, showing you how to get the look with absolute ease. The only issue left? Resisting the urge to buy EVERYTHING.

When it comes to pulling off those summer sequins, who better to give us the low-down than the Glitter Guide’s Taylor Sterling. With 5 chic ways to sneak sequins into your look, we’re ready to shimmer and shine with total confidence.
