Get the Scoop on this Event Planner’s Perfect Party Guacamole Recipe

The perfect food ever? Avocados, hands down. They come in they’re own little natural bowl, taste freaking delicious with basically everything and of course, take centerstage in the perfect party appetizer: guacamole. Nancy Liu Chin agrees and she’s sharing her favorite recipe with us today! Get ready for those summer guac offs friends, this one is a contender for our Best Ever Guacamole.

The Perfect Party Guacamole
prep time
cook time
total time
Serves 0Ingredients
  • 2 Large Haas Avocados
  • 1 Large Lime
  • 2 Large Spoonfuls of Mexican Salsa (roma tomato, onion and cilantro, also known as Pico de Gallo)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp of diced Chile Habanero with Olive Oil (fuego verde)
  • 1 Molcajete
  • 1 Knife to cover Avocados
  • 2 Spoons to Mix Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Squeeze Lime Juice onto the Molcajete. Just a few drops in the beginning.
  2. Choose a large ripe Avocado as that will look the prettiest. Too ripe will have some brown. Not ripe will be too hard to "mix" together.
  3. With the knife, cut the Avocado in half.
  4. Scoop out the avocado with the spoon.
  5. Add the avocado straight into the Molcajete. Mash the avocado until you get a mole paste consistency.
  6. Add 2 teaspoons of the Mexican Salsa. Mix again.
  7. Add more lime juice.
  8. Add salt to taste.
  9. Incorporate well but not too much.
  10. For a spicy version, which I like, have a little Fuego Verde (Chile Habanero diced in olive oil) on the side.
  11. Serve in the Molcajete along side Tortilla chips

#SMPWedding101 – Surviving the Heat this Summer Wedding Season

Summertime is for lemonade, flip flops and fabulous weddings but let’s not let that sun go to our heads. We’ve all been there, sweating our lovely dresses off as we watch our friends say “I do”… so how do we survive and thrive this summer wedding season? Sarah Hall of Joel Catering and Special Events knows the 411 to “beat the heat” so we all can enjoy and not sweat our stilettos off!

Circulate

It’s amazing what a little shade and a fan can do to cool things down! If your event is covered, just add a few standing fans (or even a Louisiana favorite – the swamp cooler) and if it’s out in the sun, consider a little cooling station under a tent with fans and iced tea and water. Personal fans are also a nice touch to let guests know you appreciate – and are watching out for – them!

Hydrate

The frosty cocktails are great, but heat and too much to alcohol makes for a very messy party. Make sure your guests have access to plenty of cool, nonalcoholic fluids with self-serve spa water stations near the restrooms, next to the bar and definitely near the dance floor.

Satiate (Don’t Stuff)

When the temperatures rise, guests tend to mistake thirst for hunger and overindulge. Make sure your menu features lighter fare that’s easier to digest on hot days. Some of our favorites are Tomato Burrata Pesto Salad, Grilled Watermelon, and Chilled Corn Soup.

Protect

Too much sun exposure can result in feeling sluggish and feeling sluggish can put a damper on the fun! Offer guests sample-size sunscreen, pass around a basket of funny or personalized sunglasses or hats to help shade your guests from the sun.

Cake Traits

Hot weather and frosting can be one drippy mess! Even if it’s in air conditioning (which it should be) the cake is still exposed to heat during transit. So picking the right kind of filling and frosting (avoid buttercream and whipped cream for sure) is important, or consider having a faux cake for display and cutting a sheet cake to share with guests.

Your Jaw Will Drop Further than This Bride’s Plunging Back Dress

When L.A. fashion blogger, Visions of Vogue offered to share a look into her boho-glam wedding day, we couldn’t say YES fast enough. She wore what might be one of the coolest wedding dresses to ever hit our pages – well done, Galia Lahav – and the entire celebration followed suit. Treat yourself with a trip to the full gallery of pretty shot by Andy SEO Studio.

From The Bride…Matt and I first crossed paths at Marquee nightclub in Las Vegas. He was a native Chicagoan and I’d been a Southern California girl for as long as I could remember. While an unlikely spot to meet your future spouse, Matt knew exactly what he wanted after a few hours of playful banter and was determined to pursue it! Six months of sassy text marathons later, we rendezvoused to accompany each other to a wedding on our first official date. Within 5 minutes of meeting again, Matt told me he had gotten a new job in Los Angeles and asked me to be his girlfriend right before kissing me for the first time. Talk about sweeping me off my feet!

When Matt proposed, I waited about 2 hours to start planning. My girlfriends told me to relax during the first few months of being engaged but I loved every bit of planning! My vision was to create a glamorously bohemian affair that was chic, classy, and cohesive above all else. Attention to detail was key and every design concept was woven together seamlessly to deliver an effortlessly stylish evening.

My favorite part of wedding planning was picking out the dress. As a lifestyle blogger, finding something unique that represented who I am was so important. I fell in love with Galia Lahav’s designs and after meeting her at a trunk show, knew I couldn’t wear anything else. The pearl encrusted bodice, low back, and abundance of tulle on my dress made for such a dreamy combination. The theme for our wedding unfolded from there!

The venue was the second most important part to us. We wanted a destination that our guests could enjoy since most of Matt’s side was from Chicago so we began our search in Temecula’s wine country. We stumbled upon Villa de Amore and knew almost immediately it was the perfect fit. Having just come back from a trip to Italy, the villa was the perfect memory of our travels and the architecture was absolutely stunning! The 360 degree vineyard views made for an incredibly romantic background too.

When it came to color, the timelessness of a neutral wedding was undeniable. I wanted to incorporate my inner bohemian too so I decided to mismatch neutrals throughout the event. Each of my bridesmaids selected her own dress in beige or gold. Sequins, patterns, and lace were all welcome! I wanted to be practical and have them love how they looked on our wedding day. All the girls got ready together at Wilson Creek Manor where our entire wedding party stayed during our wedding week. It was such a fun experience to have our closest friends share that experience with us and made for some hilarious memories!

When it came to decor, I scoured the internet for one of a kind pieces to incorporate. From the gold scroll place cards to our map guestbook to crystal chandeliers, Etsy had everything I could think up and then some. I had Soiree Design create hand tied bouquets and loose flower arrangements throughout the venue using a variety of white and champagne colored blooms. Rose petals lined the aisle and hanging florals decorated the courtyard which offered a pretty backdrop from every angle. For linens, we mixed and matched three patterns to really elevate the tablescapes. Metallic votives and mercury glass vases lined each table in a free flowing fashion. Each table was named after a nightclub Matt and I had been to together in honor of how we met. For dessert, we had a gelato bar with six custom flavors dreamt up (and taste tested) by us.

When our wedding day arrived, everything turned out so amazingly! All of our vendors helped us produce something unparalleled and for that we are truly grateful. It was such a magical day and we couldn’t have asked for anything more than celebrating with our guests under the stars. Just like everyone says, it truly was the best day ever!

The Only Secret Garden Wedding Inspiration You Need to See

Greystone Mansion may be a hidden gem nestled in Beverly Hills, but there’s no hiding the pretty from this inspiration session that took place there. Every detail — from Lavenders Flowers‘ feminine bouquet to Foil & Ink‘s understated invitations to the lovely Trumpet & Horn ring — plays up the estate’s grandeur while creating a sense of modern romance in hues of whispery pastels and soft pink. See every beautiful moment, captured by McCune Photography in The Vault!

From McCune PhotographyGreystone Mansion is one of the most beautiful properties in Southern California, a hidden gem nestled in Beverly Hills. The beauty & history of the property are truly swoon worthy, full of grandeur and lush european inspired gardens from the early 1900’s. The inspiration behind this bridal session was to capture the beauty of the modern day bride within the secret gardens and hidden passages of Greystone.

Janelle, from Lavenders Flowers is a true artist. She has an amazing eye for detail when creating arrangements. She created a very natural, organic and dreamy bouquet that incorporated Ranunculus, Roses paired with some Lilies. The color palette included very soft pastels with pops of muted pinks that were feminine and romantic.

Design Visage has an amazing with making brides glow and look stunning. The final touches and details with hair & makeup to the Myra Callan headpiece was very simple yet whimsical. It complemented the etherial look behind the Sarah Seven Lafayette wedding gown which was heavenly.

Jacki, from Foil & Ink created the invitation suite and calligraphy. She is known for her simple, pretty and unique designs. I love how her creations indulge the senses with the variety of texture and paper she uses. Each design she creates is truly one of a kind.

Everything about this shoot was so much fun to photograph. Loved getting to work with such creative and talented vendors to help make this vision come to life.

This Might Be the Prettiest Bridal Kimono Ever.

Inspired by the beauty of spring in Japan, Sally PineraJoy ProctorStudio Mondine and a whole crew of talented vendors came together to bring your wildest wedding dreams to life. Shades of soft blush reigned supreme with pops of yellow and lavender woven through the details. From the food to the tablescape to the bride’s floral kimono, no moment was overlooked and there’s even more to see inside The Vault.

From Sally PineraThe inspiration for this editorial was spring in Japan, a season and location that has inspired me personally for a very long time. The femininity and grace of the blooming cherry tree inspired the color palette, which brought soft hues of purple and yellow together with blush blossoms. Our model wore a silk kimono from Gossamer vintage with soft floral patterns. Jess Wilcox gave her delicate blush cheeks and slightly lavender eyes to bring youth to the 20s style pin curl updo.

SBB Gourmet Catering created a Japanese inspired menu that highlighted the colors and textures of Spring. Ingredients like spring peas, baby vegetables and cherry blossoms brought the menu to life in the most inspiring ways. The ikebana style flowers created by Studio Mondine accented the table perfectly with spring floral sitting between place settings of delicate Japanese style ceramic items. The paper goods created by Joya Rose added some whimsy and charm to the look, offering hand-brushed calligraphy on soft blush paper.

5 Rules To Achieve Perfect Party Host Status

After more than 700 weddings and parties under her belt, Nancy Liu Chin of NLC Designs knows a few things about planning a dinner party or two. But thankfully, you don’t need that many events on your entertaining resume to become a perfect party hostess. Instead, just a few tips from the pros. Along with imagery from Kevin Chin, Nancy is sharing some of her go-to tips on how to be party-ready and kick booty doing it!

From Nancy Liu Chin of NLC DesignsThe most important thing when it comes to planning a success dinner party is to remember that your guests are coming to visit with you. So, spend time with your guests. But how can you do that if you have food to prepare? If you are in the kitchen cooking away, I always ask, what’s your guest doing? So how can you find ways to worry less about the food so that you can enjoy quality time with your friends? Here are my five tips.

Welcome your Guests with Signature Drink

Taking a cue from wedding planning, borrow the Signature Welcome Drinks that are so in fashion at weddings and large events and bring a little bit of that to your own party. If you are pouring the drinks all night, you’ll probably be so wiped out that you might not have any fun by the time the guests leave. So the first thing I always think about is having a drink ready to go. By pre making drinks, you will save a lot of time and if you pour them in a fancy glass, it’s a great way to welcome your guests to your party with.

Have one non alcoholic drink ready like this hibicus tea that is one of my favorites. I first had it in Puerto Vallerta at a small cantina in Old Town. When I stayed at the St Regis Punta Mita, I found that theirs was both tart and refreshing. It’s a great drink for a hot summer day as it’s not too sweet but still tropical. If you like Arnold Palmers, that’s another great choice. A dark black unsweetened tea with lemonade is also refreshing. Serve them in a beautiful glass, after all it’s the first thing you greet them with and you want to make a splash. For those who want to indulge, I love Margaritas on the rocks. It’s both a drink that works well with food and a crowd pleaser. Plus, it goes well with my
“go to” menu ideas.

Make the Food Entertaining

Food at an event is part of the entertainment. That’s what I’ve learned over the years. Have you not wondered why so many of us pull out our iPhones to snap images of what we’re eating at restaurants. For small gatherings, it’s the food that draws us together so menus that allow people to share, use their hands, and be part of the creation process makes it all the more fun. My idea menu for a warm spring or summer dinner or lunch includes a bright flavorful salad like a watermelon and jicama salad, fish based ceviche, build-your-own tacos, ice cream with fresh seasonal fruit and of course, my go to starter — guacamole with chips.

Guacamole is a great dish to learn. First, it’s because its a crowd pleasure. Secondly, it’s a one bowl dish(not including the tortilla chips). Easy to clean up. Lastly, it’s fast to prepare and doesn’t need many ingredients.

I’ve been making guacamole the same way but recently, I learned from chefs at the St Regis Punta Mita their method. The key and secret is that making it in a Molcajete (the Mexican version of a mortal and pestle) gives it an earthiness. I’ll be sharing their wonderful Guacamole recipe tomorrow.

Make People Feel Special

Through many years of observing weddings and designing events, I’ve witnessed what makes people feel special at an event or party. It really is in the little details because on some level, we all know what it feels like when we see someone make an effort for us. For a hostess to do something to make their guests feel special reveals much more than merely just saying it or thinking it. In our actions, we reveal how important that someone is. I learned this trait from my mothers as well. I’ve always known how special each child is to my mom for the way she remembers what they like to eat. These days, that thoughtfulness is extended to her son-in-law, Kevin Chin who captured these lovely images. When we go home for a family dinner, my mom will stock coffee Haagen Dazs Ice Cream for my husband because that’s his favorite. (yeah, mom!)

For me, it’s about personalization. A simple gesture like writing their names on a place cards or on a coaster goes a long way to making each guest feel they are unique and important. And let me tell you, your friends will not forget that. The writing doesn’t have to be fancy or professional, mine certainly is not. For place cards, it doesn’t even need to be on fancy paper. Try cutting stripes of pastel paper stock into thin stripes and writing their names with a fountain pen. Tie it like a cigar band around a napkin. Make it simple! For a coaster, I found some wood hand dyed ones. Using the colorful side, I added guests names to the coasters. It serves two purposes. One, it’s pretty plus unique. Second, guests will be able to find their drinks! And lastly, no water rings!

The point is by making each guest feel special, you’ve probably won them over!

Set the Mood, Effortlessly

This part many might disagree with but I’m an event and floral designer, so I like pretty. I really do. First things before you make pretty, you got to declutter a bit so that you space is pristine and comfortable when your guests arrive. Cleaning isn’t any fun but if you start with a blank canvas it will be so much easier.

Having a beautiful table isn’t to impress anyone. (Okay, maybe your mother-in-law!) You don’t want to try too hard so don’t think you need to whip out a full blown professional arrangements with the latest flowers. Think small simple glass and a beautiful bloom or blooms. Perhaps even something from your yard. I have a plum tree in front of my house. Right now it’s brown-reddish branches and leaves are stunning. Placing cut branches into white ceramic vases creates such an effortless but serene look. If you are lucky to have some bougainvilleas vines, I love using them especially for this Mexican themed dinner party. It’s vines are long and lengthy so they can drape beautiful down the center on a long rectangular wood table. You add some green foliage to them and it’s just enough to show that you can made something effortless chic.

Dish up the tables with candles, beautiful rolled napkins and plates that you can find at your local department store. I went for some everyday acrylic plates at Target as they are not only affordable but also hard to chip or break. It’s affordability allows me to change up patterns for different seasons. Perhaps it’s just a large plate that you buy, so that you can use it as a charger. Whatever it is, the pretty sets the tone. It tells your guests, is your party casual, formal, relaxed, romantic even. Making sure that your decor, food, drinks all have the same feel will only make the entire party so much more perfect.

Always Say Thank You

A perfect party host knows that you got to leave them knowing that you appreciate their time and presence. I like to leave guests with a little something. It doesn’t have to be fancy. A small bowl of chocolates. Warm cookies in a bag. A pashmina wrap. Cigars for the guys. Make it playful and not too serious.

Whatever you do, it ensures that they won’t ever want to miss one of your parties.

A Simple Summer Wedding Full of Love and Sunshine

Shannon and Dan’s Wisconsin wedding will give you the same warm feeling as sunshine on your skin, and not just because it’s filled with bright, cheery sunflowers and lots of golden summer sunshine. Their big day is also full of love. Experience it all, and get a little mood boost, thanks to beautiful images from m three studio, in The Vault!

From m three studioShannon and Danny’s story was written decades ago it seems. It was outlined in the poems of Shannon’s grandfather. Strengthened in the houses he built on a tiny island in Lake Michigan. Fleshed out with the dozens of grandchildren that sprang forth from her grandparent’s love, with countless days and nights she herself spent on that island learning what love looked like, from him, from her, from her own parents. Grandpa and Grandma were everywhere on this wedding day, though they have long passed. They were there. In every breeze, in every tear, and most assuredly in every smile. Their love gave inspiration to Shannon and Danny’s, and it was absolute captivation to watch them walk in those footsteps and forge their own story.

Echoes of Shannon’s grandparents were everywhere – and intricately woven into the details of their wedding day. The ceremony location was her family’s vacation home – built by her grandfather to accommodate his growing brood of grandchildren. Situated right on the lakefront, it was a scenic setting for their vows. Self-written vows were only surpassed in emotions by Shannon’s brother reciting a poem written by their grandfather to his wife on their fortieth anniversary. They exited the homestead to cheers and lavender blossoms (an island export) and jumped into Grandpa’s vintage Studebaker, which he used to court Grandma. The wedding party hopped on ‘The Cherry Train’ – an island touring vehicle much beloved by locals. They met up at Grandpa’s farm for pictures. Then it was off to the Historic Island Dairy – an event space that was once a dairy for the island and now hosts parties, an art gallery and lavender fields. Birch trees from their property were cut into placecard holders. Wedding pictures of past generations greeted guests. A signature cocktail accented with more of the island’s lavender was well-circulated. The whole weekend was dubbed “A Sigmund Ferrytale” as a nod to the ferry everyone must take to get to the Island. While all of these details and niceties are wonderful – it is the deep emotions of the day that really leave their impression. It’s evident in the free-flowing tears and laughter of their families, the tight embraces of the dances and the looks exchanged during speeches.

From The Bride…I didn’t have too much of a vision, actually. Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to get married at my family’s cabin and not too much besides that. I wanted everything to be very natural and have a woodsy theme. My now husband, Dan, and I knew we wanted to keep things simple and elegant. Our wedding planners at mb designs+events really helped me put what I was imagining together while keeping my style. I don’t think many people realize the task of putting on your dream wedding and keeping a budget until you’re actually doing it, it was great to have extra help everywhere I could. The coordination between Molly at m three studio photography and the mb designs+events team helped me have a stress-free wedding that I could only have dreamed of. The whole day was completely my style captured with the island elements in the ambiance and pictures.

My color palette changed a number of times. I kept envisioning one thing and then deciding something else once I saw it. With so many moving pieces it’s hard to have it exactly right the first time – which can make wedding planning stressful. Jean and Michelle, at mb design+events, did a great job in our preliminary meeting getting an understanding of what my priorities were and helping me decide what pieces would go best together. There was sometimes a disconnect I felt, as the bride, with making so many decisions – I thought I had such a specific idea of what I wanted until it came to decision time! Not everything was what I initially thought, but ended up being so much better…And much more ‘like me’ and not as traditional.

I was actually put in a really good situation because I loved the idea of being able to add my own DIY pieces to my wedding, but of course, didn’t want it to look like a “DIY wedding”! DIY definitely comes in handy as you start to reach your budget limit. That’s where we played around with the idea the most. Jean and Michelle, the planners, were really great at following my budget and if I went over one place, they worked to help me find a way to save that money somewhere else. Dan, my now husband, and I burned all the table numbers into the perfect birch pieces Jean and Michelle forged in the forest on the island (crazy right?!). This was such a great example of still getting what we wanted, while helping with the cost and also being able to contribute a project Dan and I did to our special day.

I am such a sap – hence the “ferry tale” wedding – so reading my vows and hearing Dan’s vows will forever be my favorite moment. I pondered those words from the moment I met him and was able to fully express it in a way that was very ‘me’… I’m getting teary eyed now! I’ll never forget that wonderful overwhelming feeling. It set the pace for the whole day. My favorite crafted detail would have to be my veil. My mom actually made it for me and it was perfect, just stunning. It gave me a natural, elegant beauty and was better than I could have imagined. I was really lucky to work with such great people for everyone who contributed to the day.

My flowers were from “Flora” in Sister Bay. Helene, owner of Flora, was amazing to work with and was so on top of what I was looking for. She gave great suggestions and advice too, when I wasn’t sure what direction to go. Helene was brilliant to work with when sticking to the budget. My gown I bought downtown Chicago at Ultimate Bride. It was a Monique Lhuillier and, unlike most brides, I didn’t feel that moment of “this is the one!” I saw it on the model and thought that it fit my personality very well. I am a maxi dress kind of girl, and so many of the dresses I tried on were gorgeous but too formal and over the top for who I am. This dress I knew was going to reflect my personality and once it was altered (and I wasn’t trying on the sample) I knew I made a great decision – but it was a little bit of a leap of faith and trusting my gut. My cake was made by a local, Jennifer Mineo, on Washington Island and I still have guests raving about it. The entire thing was made from scratch and gluten free! I knew I made my parents nervous when I said I wanted a gluten free cake – because usually gluten free has a reputation for not being as good as the real thing. That was definitely not the case there! My wedding planners, Michelle and Jean, had so many great ideas with little pieces of island elements to incorporate for the day but, if I had to choose my favorite, it would be the personalized napkins. It was a small detail but they had a quote on there from me that I always say to Dan, my husband, “How lucky am I to have someone like you who loves me?”. It was a heartwarming touch that was a great reminder throughout the night the beauty of why we were there celebrating.

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be? Breathe. Remember what the day is for. You only get one, so slow down, enjoy it. Say “I love you” to everyone who you’re sharing that day with and let go of any negative thoughts. Have people there who are on top of things. Having someone keep you and the wedding party on schedule and on time lifted a giant weight off my shoulders. I was able to enjoy the day and simply let it happen because of all the great people who we hired. Also, Molly, my photographer, gave me some timeless advice that I reminded myself all day – “it’s only ugly crying if you try to stop it, just let your emotions flow!” And I did – which resulted in a beautiful day, beautiful memories and beautiful pictures!

From Joey Kennedy PhotographyThe Omni Resort at Bedford Springs is a tale of two cites. This venue is half way between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and even Washington DC. It has colonial charm and being nestled in the mountains gives your guests the seclusion of a perfect weekend get away. The gorgeous gratto feels like an french landscape and perfect ceremony location. Its absolutely one of my favorite venues!

From The Bride…We booked Bedford Springs out of the blue for our first valentines day weekend together and fell in love with everything about it. I secretly picked up a wedding packet book because I already knew it was the perfect place for us when that time came. After Patrick proposed we both knew it was our #1 choice but just had to get our parents on board as they were a little skeptic seeming as though it is virtually in the middle of nowhere! Luckily they loved it too and we didn’t look at one other venue, we knew this was our place. Looking back we know we made the best decision ever, our family and friends raved about it and we could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else.

Michael and Carina Photography did just that and the results are priceless – head to our Vault to get in on all these feel-good vibes!

From Michael And Carina PhotographyHands down, our favorite anniversary session ever! Big Sur is one of the most breathtaking locations imaginable and it certainly did not disappoint for Carlie and Gabe’s anniversary session. Their two kids joined the two for a few shots and they are some of the most photogenic children we’ve ever had in front of our lens. Chased by the waves, the couple reveled in moments of movement and laughter, as well as in moments of stillness and romance. The sun set over the cliffs as the family enjoyed the setting under an arch of florals.

Wifey for Lifey: This Castle Wedding Defines Happily Ever After

This celebration is easily a new favorite. For starters? Look at those shoes! Oh, but the beauty doesn’t end there. From the outdoor sunlit ceremony to the Bride’s insanely gorgeous locks a la Once Upon A BrideHeather Waraksa and Kiss The Bride Films captured it all to share. See every second of beauty in The Vault!

From The Bride…From the beginning, I envisioned throwing an enchanted garden party at a spectacular venue with thoughtful details strewn throughout the day. Andy and I wanted our wedding to be an intimate weekend affair for our closest friends and family; A little getaway at a venue that offered it all. The Castle Hotel in charming Tarrytown, NY had a spacious, vintage-inspired bridal suite, accommodations for guests, a poolside lounge area for our rehearsal dinner, and various outdoor and indoor spaces for the ceremony, reception and cocktail hour. We got married in a beautifully manicured flower garden overlooking the Hudson River.

I imagined lots of dark greenery with little pops of light pink, cream and gold. Our florist, Juli Vaughn, really helped this vision come to life. I told her I wanted the arrangements to look freeform and organic with a waterfall of greens down the sides. She brought long strands of ivy and draped them over chairs, balconies and tables. Our sweetheart table was magical with rose gold candelabras and hand-painted floral details.

Andy and I bought a bag of Palo Santo chips and tied together little bundles with twine to give as favors. Palo Santo is a natural, aromatic wood incense said to have special healing properties. It offered our guests a little peek inside our world, and they came with a little description of how to use.

My favorite moment was walking up the aisle with Andy, our first moments officially married as a couple while the band played Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Friends and family were cheering and there was champagne waiting for us at the end.

Choosing what jewelry to wear was the hardest decision for me. I went with my favorite Jacquie Aiche Diamond Shaker Necklace, Moonstone Double Pyramid Ring and Moonstone Hoops as well as an Ariel Gordon Diamond Tennis Bracelet, Diamond Droplet Bracelet and Signet Bangle with my initials. My Sophia Webster Jojo Heels said “Wifey for Lifey” on the soles. I’m a sucker for those sorts of whimsical details.

My advice is to very thoroughly research your vendors. Take time to meet with many of them and narrow it down based on the right teams that suit your needs. Make a list of what day-of details are the most important and allow for a bigger budget. Our must-have vendor was photographer Heather Waraksa who captured every moment of our day in such ethereal, dreamy detail. The photos we have from our wedding are priceless; We get to relive our momentous day any time we pull them out.

This Elegant Plantation Wedding Defines Southern Romance

It doesn’t take much to make me fall in love with a Southern wedding. Moss draped trees? Floral filled moments? Just a few simple ingredients like these and I’m hooked. Take this celebration for example, it’s simply perfect. With Ashley Seawell Photography behind the lens snapping up every second of romance, we’ve got it all waiting in The Vault!

From Ashley Seawell PhotographyCaitlin and Ari invited their guests to celebrate at one of their favorite places, Hilton Head Island. Their meaningful ceremony and reception took place at Honey Horn Plantation. This site was the perfect choice as they wanted to be surrounded by the natural beauty of the island. Roses, thistle and eucalyptus were used throughout the day. Thistle was used as a nod to the groom’s home country of Scotland.

Going to a Wedding This Weekend? 5 Things You Can’t Forget!

Wedding season is fully upon us and we’re loving every little bit of it (cute dresses, happy tears, wining, dining and dancing!). But amid all the business, it’s easy to forget some must-have essentials that make sure your wedding attendance is as prepared, pleasant and enjoyable as possible. As you pack up that cute clutch this weekend, double check to make sure you have these important items in tow!

1. Portable Phone Charger

There’s nothing worse than realizing you’re down to 10% battery when you walk into a party. Pack an on-the-go charger so you can snap wedding day memories from beginning to end.

2. Heel Protectors

Unless you’re wearing wedges or flats, make sure you’ve got heel protectors for every outdoor wedding on your calendar. They’ll save your favorite shoes so you can wear them all season long.

3. Pretty Pashmina

When temperatures drop, it’s always nice to have a wrap on hand. Bring along an elegant pashmina that can easily be tucked away in your purse and pulled out if needed.

4. Emergency Snack

Sometimes the wait between the ceremony and dinner can feel quite long, so it’s always smart to pack a little something to tide you over. Think an energy bar, dried fruit, or any snack that can be consumed discreetly.

5. Hangover Kit

You know, just in case you need to ease the next-day pain of one drink too many…
