Idyllic Destination Wedding in the Greek Isles

After I saw “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” all I wanted to do was jet off to Greece, and it’s safe to say that this beautiful destination wedding is having the exact same effect. From the Groom’s adorable transportation (a charming Calessino!) to the Bride’s gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown, this wedding has us completely smitten. See it all from Anna Roussos Photography in THE VAULT!

From The Event CompanyThe wedding of Tatiana & Nicholas, took place in the idyllic island of Spetses. Where the amazing combination of pine and sea creates spectacular views of natural beauty. Here, the history meets elegance and tradition.

The wedding ceremony was held in St. Nicholas, one of the oldest churches in Spetses of post Byzantine cross style with the extremely finely crafted bell towel where the flag of the Revolution was hoisted in 1821.

The reception was hosted in the historical Poseidonion Grand Hotel that has been a landmark on the Spetses skyline for the past 100 years with its exceptional architecture echoing hotels of Côte d’Azur style.

The decor was inspired by the couple’s wish to create a classic and elegant wedding, we used white and green flowers hydrangea, peony, dusty miller, aromatic gardenia and lavender!

Blue was our main color. The invitation and gift, was a custom-made linen turquoise box with their initials. With personal stamp of the couple in sealing wax, (the oldest method authentication) an exact copy of traditional Spetses boat in scale. Our groom went to church with the most glamorous tricycle in the world! Classic, but also the glamorous Calessino, symbol of Italian style. The bride of course arrived with the traditional blue horse and carriage. It was a romantic, elegant wedding, with a dreamy Oscar de la Renta wedding dress. Tatiana and Nicholas, a special couple, a marriage that has come out from fairy tales.

Classically Elegant Rhode Island Spring Wedding

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; there’s a reason classic elegance will never go out of style. Add in a venue that feels like a French chateau, blooms by Sayles Livingston Flowers, and a princess-like gown from Lovely Bride, and this elegant affair shines ever brighter. Erin McGinn snapped it all and LMV Productions filmed the love and the fun – see every beautiful bit in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… Dale and I really wanted our wedding to be relaxed and elegant – with a focus on celebrating our love and having fun with our closest friends and families. We’ve always loved the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI. It has so much charm and vintage detail, is surrounded by a beautiful garden, and it’s on the water. When we were picking a venue for our wedding, we knew it was the perfect place for us. Besides celebrating our marriage, our goal for the wedding was for the guests to have fun – we got a great band, had a photo booth, and even a cigar roller. We also tried to
include some unique and meaningful details that would make people smile and remember how much fun they had on our special day.

From the Bride… Jason and I serendipitously met at a grocery store while we were both in high school (in neighboring towns) and kept finding our way back to each other through college, long-distance moves and simply growing up. When Jason and I got engaged (on the Pont des Arts in Paris a few years ago), the last thing that entered my mind was planning a wedding. Instead, I couldn’t stop thinking about how lucky I was to have found my match and that we chose each other forever. While my energy quickly turned to thinking about the wedding we’d have to celebrate our marriage, that initial thought never left my mind and still hasn’t to this day.

At the time that we got engaged, we were living in San Francisco and about to make a move back to the east coast, where we both grew up, to New York. Once we arrived back in New York, the planning was in full effect. We quickly chose The Foundry in Long Island City as our venue; it felt so much like us and the way we wanted our wedding to be – beautiful but not fussy, interesting but not complicated, full of possibilities but not overwhelming. Once the venue was secured, it was pretty remarkable how easily the rest fell into place.

We wanted the mood of our wedding to be romantic but maintain a beautiful simplicity to it. Every vendor we found contributed to this mood and beautifully executed our vision – from our band, who flawlessly played music that was personal and meaningful to us (I walked down the aisle to Sigur Ros and we had our first dance to Ben Folds) to our caterer who crafted some of our favorite foods like mini lobster rolls and grilled cheese in a beautiful but approachable way, to our florist who made the most gorgeously lush arrangements reminiscent of a romantic garden.

More important than our vision for what the wedding would look like, though, was our vision for what the wedding would feel like. It was paramount to us that our wedding was intimate, personal and family-oriented, so Jason’s dad officiated the ceremony (one of the best wedding decisions we made), we placed old family photos on book shelves for guests to look at, we had long rows of tables at dinner so our guests could feel like they were at a family dinner, and we incorporated family traditions and heirlooms into the ceremony like the ketubah and chuppah covering. I even created all of the candle favors as a personal way to thank our guests for being a part of our wedding day.

Throughout the entire planning process, we focused on one goal: to throw a memorable party for the people in our lives who meant the most to us – the family and friends who felt like family – that fill our lives with love, support and happiness. Looking back on our wedding day, I think we did just that.

From Matt Rowe Photography This magical wedding occurred in Spring in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and was a super special affair featuring love and family. From The Bride… I’m so excited to share my wedding with you today! When I think back on the crazy blur of our wedding, a few moments really stand out to me. On the morning of, I woke up to a crisp and cloudless blue sky and an adorable text message from Kevin – both of which put me at ease. After that brief moment of calm, all I can remember is the frenetic energy around me as I finished some last-minute DIY details with my bridesmaids (thanks guys!) and wrote notes to Kevin and our parents. Suddenly, the frenzy of the day came to a halt and I found myself looking at my dad as we were about to walk down the aisle, violin music floating in the background. I remember locking eyes with Kevin and watching a smile flash across his face as I approached. Somehow — even after anxiously waiting and planning and daydreaming about it for months — nothing really prepares you for how exceptional that moment feels.

When we first started discussing the big day, we agreed that we really just wanted everyone to have fun. We also hoped that our guests would be able to see all of the personality and love that went into the planning. My mom and I (and Kevin, at times) planned the entire wedding ourselves and the experience made me realize how lucky I am to have a creative and innovative mom and a supportive husband. Since the wedding involved plenty of sourcing and DIY elements, I thought it would be fun to break it down into pieces — in case anyone else is as obsessed with the details as I am! (And I owe a huge thank you to the immeasurably talented Ruth Eileen Photography for capturing all of those details and moments so beautifully.)

The venue

My family has a home on Martha’s Vineyard and the island has always been a huge part of my life — I spent a few glorious summers there waitressing and babysitting, and it’s probably my favorite place on earth. When I met Kevin (a native Californian), I made sure we visited MV early on in our relationship — luckily, he fell in love with it too! We chose to get married at a private estate in Edgartown where we could hold both the ceremony and tented reception — it was situated right on the water and surrounded by beautiful sea grass and Montauk daisies. As an added bonus, it was large enough to house the whole bridal party so everyone was able to stay in one place (and enjoy plenty of leftover fried chicken the morning after the wedding!).

The fashion

As a fashion blogger and overall style enthusiast, I was particularly excited about dress shopping. I eagerly scheduled appointments at multiple boutiques in Boston, and was pretty certain I knew what I wanted. My first appointment was at L’elite Bridal during a Reem Acra trunk show (one of my favorite designers). I’m generally a very indecisive person and I like to know all of my options before committing to one — so it was pretty surprising when I fell for the second dress I tried on (miraculously, I never second-guessed my choice either). The intricately embroidered bodice was peppered with just the right amount of sequins (although it’s hard to see in the photos!) and I loved the fluid movement of the skirt. I had small silk buttons added to the back as an homage to my mother’s wedding dress and a sequined belt for a little extra sparkle and texture. My favorite addition; however, was the beautiful diamond starburst brooch that was used to fasten the belt – it’s a family heirloom that’s been worn by every bride on my mother’s side since the early 1800s, and I felt very lucky to continue the tradition.

The DIY

After learning calligraphy and designing our save-the-dates and invitations, I knew I also wanted to design all of the other stationery components (like table numbers, menus, directional signs, etc.) to keep everything visually consistent. Our wedding invitations were foil stamped in copper and rose gold, so I decided to incorporate these metallics throughout the wedding. However, professional foil stamping can be really cost-prohibitive when you’re printing menus, ceremony programs, table numbers and advice cards. It simply wasn’t in our budget, so I found a way to print DIY foil at home using foil transfer paper and a laminator. It was extremely time-consuming (I ended up printing a few hundred pieces, which I would not recommend!) — however, I’m one of those weirdos who thoroughly enjoys big craft projects so it all worked out.

In order to achieve the same rose gold theme in my wedding signs, I enlisted the help of my cousin who owns a custom print wear shop. I scanned my own brush script and designed the layouts — and from there, he came up with a way to print these beautiful banner signs in shiny foil. My mom and I constructed frames for the banners using copper pipes and fittings from the hardware store (I thought this added a bit of an unexpected edge to the look). We also made stands for the table numbers using thin copper pipes. For the escort card display, we wrapped an old door in that ubiquitous banana leaf print fabric — the same print I used for envelope liners in our invitations (it was like a little wink to… myself). I ordered a giant box of copper plant markers and wrote all of our guests’ names on the individual tags. My darling bridesmaids helped organize all of the tags by table number and attached them to the display.

The menu

Since we got married at a private venue, we had the freedom to customize everything. Instead of picking a few options from a fixed menu, we worked with an incredible local chef, Gina Stanley, to create our dream menu (think: sweet potato beignets, fresh island oysters, buttermilk fried chicken with Tabasco honey, braised short ribs and parmesan risotto). Kevin and I are huge foodies — and we especially looove comfort food, so we opted for a family style dinner made from all local ingredients. That way, everyone could try everything and the informal family-style meal facilitated more introductions and conversation between guests. (P.S. I always hear that brides forget to eat on their wedding day, but I definitely did not have that problem.)

The party

After all of the anticipation, stress and excitement that comes with wedding planning, we were so ready to unwind and have fun at our reception. I was laughing and dancing nonstop – catching up with friends and family, smooching Kevin and repeating “I can’t believe we’re married!”, not caring about my windblown hair or grass-stained dress. It was the perfect celebration. After dinner and our first dance, Kevin and his groomsmen changed into these crazy printed short-shorts (Chubbies) with socks, and danced like maniacs. I wasn’t sure how the outfit change would be received by all of our guests, but it was a hit and it totally kept the party going! After that, we had a sparkler and paper lantern release that, unfortunately, we had to cut it short due to a fire hazard with the surrounding sea grass. For all you brides-to-be: this is a perfect example of those inevitable wedding day blunders you’ll have to force yourself not to stress over! Luckily, no damage resulted and the ordeal was quickly forgotten as soon as the late-night donuts and apple fritters arrived!

Party Idea: DIY Bouquet Bar

We all know what heart-filled holiday is gracing our calendars soon, but my opinion is that a little flower love can be shared any time of the year. For friends stopping by or a cocktail party just for the girls, a DIY bouquet bar is such a sweet gesture and a total cinch to put together. And if you find yourself throwing a little Galentine’s soiree, well it’s good for that too.

Materials
Flowers (the more the merrier in a variety of blooms and hues that look nice sitting side-by-side)
6-12″ squares of kraft paper (actually any paper will do – size depends on how long you keep your stems)
6-12″ squares of wax paper (see above kraft paper note)
Washi Tape
Scissors
Ribbon

instructions

step-1 Cut and clean your stems, removing any thorns or pesky leaves. Cut them to size beautifully in your container.

step-2 Cut your kraft or wrapping paper. You may want to have the stems sneak out a bit at the bottom so a smaller square is preferable. We kept our stems to about 8-10 inches and our paper to about 6.” Rinse and repeat with wax paper.

step-3 Place your flowers in your vases. We went with mason jars because that’s what we had on hand. We added some height to a few of our jars so you could really see and access all of the flowers by simple placing our jars on top of upside down jars and clear vases.

step-4 Add your supplies…a basket of pre-cut ribbon, some washi tape, your papers and a pair of scissors.

step-5 Have your friends and fam make their bouquets. All they need to do is lay a piece of wax paper on top of the kraft paper and turn the papers to be a diamond shape with the point at the top. Fold one side corner down towards the bottom corner, then repeat on the other side. Wrap one side around the stems, then the other side on top of the paper and tape. Tie with pretty ribbon and poof! Pretty bouquet magic.

Snowy Rocky Mountain National Park Engagement

There’s no doubt Winsome and Wright knows how to capture love. One little look through The Vault and you’ll see what I mean. But when they’ve got the most darling of couples plus the snowy scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park in front of the camera? Well, this happens. One absurdly sweet engagement session – snow capped trees included.

From The Bride to be…The story of Chris and myself is one of chance; despite all odds here we are, together. It all started when Chris and I had our first brief interaction 4 months prior to our first date: it was a heated discussion on a mutually respected author, whom, though highly respected in my book, I did not care much for. The conversation was good enough, so in an uncharacteristic move, I gave him my number. 4 months later, I received a text from “Chris Chemistry” asking to grab a drink. I was a bit bewildered, as I had completely forgotten about this “Chris Chemistry”, but figured he must be worth at least a drink what with me saving his name with ‘Chemistry’ in it. The next day we met at a cute cocktail restaurant in Boulder. I arrived early in order to compose myself for this seemingly blind date. All of a sudden, there he was! Tall, dark, handsome, with the deepest light eyes I had ever seen. I instantly felt the butterflies that were present in our first conversation, and I think I knew then that I would come to love him. Drinks turned into dinner, accompanied with compelling conversation…We’ve been inseparable ever since.

We became engaged, on a weekend adventure riddled with ‘mishaps’, which though stressful helped to comprise a perfect weekend. We share a mutual love for the great outdoors: hiking, climbing, and general adventuring, so when looking for a photographer we wanted to find someone who would be able to capture that important aspect of our relationship. My Maid of Honor, Kalyn, had stumbled upon Faith, and radiated her praise from the start. I studied her website for hours – I felt a ping in my stomach that assured me she was the photographer. I phoned her, and instantly there was a connection. We discussed ideas for the photos, the tone, style, composition etc., seamlessly; it was as though we were of one mind.

Then Faith mentioned the location: Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). At that moment it was a done deal. Chris and I spend much of the summer weekends playing in RMNP that it has become the keystone of many of our more intimate moments. In fact, Bear Lake, the location of some of the photographs Faith took, was the site of one of our earlier hikes together.

Faith has done such an exceptional job, weaving together our adventurous past and personalities in our engagement photographs. When I look upon the photos I am immediately thrown into some of my fondest memories with my love. I could not be more grateful! Faith has captured in our photos the moments we hold most dear: she peered into our souls brought forward our best selves. I could not be more pleased!

Floral Inspired Baby Girl Shower

I’m all for shower games but a farm-to-table feast is sure to trump all. And that’s not the only fab activity on the docket for this pink infused shower. The mama-to-be and party planner extraordinaire behind Lovely Day Styling & Events also fashioned a floral crown making station with the help of Jakkelyn Iris Designs + dip dyed the prettiest pink linens (in her third trimester, no less!). Click through the vault captured by Victoria Gloria for even more!

I’m a wedding planner who loves obsessing over the smallest decor details that make our couples’ weddings unique, so when my Mom approached me to help plan my own baby shower, I was all for it. It was the chance to combine my passion for party planning with complete creative control — which was the best gift she could have given me! The planning process was so fun and the perfect pregnancy distraction in my third trimester.

We invited an intimate group of my closest friends and family and decided to host the party at Terrain in Westport, CT, a local spot that inspires me each time I walk in. My Mom and I worked together on the decor, focusing on special touches like calligraphed place cards and home-baked banana and pumpkin bread favors. We spent the day before the event dip-dying the table runners in my tiny kitchen sink, laughing for hours and trying not to dye our hands pink!

I really wanted my friends to have a lovely evening together, so we replaced traditional “shower games” with a delicious farm-to-table harvest supper and a hands-on group activity. My friend and floral genius Jakkelyn Dickey lead us in a wonderful flower-crown making class, which fit perfectly with the Garden Cafe theme and sent my guests home with a hand-made souvenir.

It was the perfect celebration for my baby girl, and the talented Victoria Shaefer captured it all in beautiful photos that I’ll have as a keepsake for years to come.

Elegant + Organic San Juan Capistrano Wedding

Where do we even begin to gush over this Southern California wedding, because each and every thoughtful detail is completely gorgeous. From the Bride’s sweet pup in her pretty flower collar and the stunning ceremony set up to the adorable cake toppers (a nod to the Bride and Groom’s alma maters) and the end-of-the-night In-‘N-Out surprise, there’s so much to love about this day. See it all from Sposto Photography in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Tad and I got engaged in stunning Big Sur, CA in January 2015. We both share a passion for being outdoors and taking in beautiful views, so we knew right away that we wanted to get married at an outdoor venue. As we began to discuss potential venues and our vision for our wedding, it was clear to us that we wanted our big day to feel intimate, relaxed and romantic. Growing up in Orange County, I knew that the historic, charming city of San Juan Capistrano would be the perfect destination. And when we found Hamilton Oaks Winery, we knew right away that it would be the perfect venue to host the best day of our lives.

With such a beautiful backdrop of the rolling hills and orange groves, we knew that we wanted to keep the decor clean and soft so that we didn’t compete with the natural beauty around us. We chose white, ivory, green, subtle blush, grey and navy blue as our color palette. From there, with the help of our wonderful wedding coordinator, we got to work on all of the planning. Our wedding coordinator, Sanya, recommended our amazing photographer Shauntelle and our makeup artist Lettie, and I’m friends with our incredible hair stylist, Heather — all of whom are the absolute best and we will without a doubt find an excuse to use again.

For me, figuring out all of the details was so much fun… I mean, you only get to do it once, right?! Getting inspiration from Pinterest and wedding sites is so helpful, but I found that the most exciting moments were when we found things that were truly unique to us. Even though they were a small detail, perhaps the item we got most excited about were our adorable cake toppers. Tad and I both have a lot of school pride — he played football at the University of California-Berkeley and I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!). So what better way to pay tribute in a way that felt natural than to put our mascots, a bear and a badger, on top of our cake. Our custom, little friends brought us so much joy and it was so fun to see all of our guests enjoy them as much as we did.

Getting ready with all of my girls was so much fun — we opened gifts, drank a little champagne, and relaxed as much as we could before heading to the venue. One of the highlights was a special appearance from my dog, Lily. I’m a huge dog lover, and having her there with me on my wedding day was a moment I will forever cherish. I think she somehow knew it was my wedding day — she was excited, happy, wore a flower crown, and posed for pictures. If you can swing it, I highly recommend making your special pet a part of your day in some capacity.

We got married in October, and in true Southern California fashion, it was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. The ceremony was so special. I’ll never forget the first time I looked out at all of the ceremony decor and all of our family and friends sitting, waiting for us to exchange vows. It’s a special moment seeing everything you have envisioned actually come to life. One of our favorite parts of our wedding was our special musical guest — Maiya Sykes who appeared on The Voice. Instead of walking down the aisle to traditional music, Maiya sang “Hallelujah,” my all time favorite song. Now, I’m a crier… I cry at every single wedding, all movies, and even commercials, so I thought I would for sure cry throughout the entire ceremony. But instead of tears, I walked out with the biggest smile on my face. I was just so happy. So happy to have my dad next to me, to hear the most hauntingly beautiful song as we walk, to see our family and friends, and most importantly, to see my future husband smiling up at the alter.

It was amazing to see our venue transformed for the reception. All of our vendors were absolute rockstars — they brought every single detail we envisioned to life, and then some. The first time Tad and I saw it, we were breathless. It was exactly what we had hoped for. We wanted the space to feel romantic, and that’s just what it was. We had lots of candles, white lights above all the tables and on all of the surrounding trees, and even the stars and moon came out for us. Maiya performed a few of our favorite songs as everyone was seated and getting their food (Tad picked the menu). The speeches were fabulous — there were tears, laughs, and even a little rap from my dad. The best part was seeing all of our family and friends — everyone smiling, eating, laughing, loving, and tearing up the dance floor. Exactly what we had hoped for.

The cherry on top at the end of the night was surprising all of our guests with some In-N-Out, a much appreciated gesture :)

Whimsical + Elegant Oregon Ranch Wedding

When the Bride just so happens to be an all-star wedding planner we know we’re in for a GORGE gallery. And this Oregon affair? Well, it’s certainly no exception. For not only did this Bride take part in planning her Big Day, but she enlisted the ever-so-talented Ivy And Gold to share the moment and snap up every sentimental detail. It’s the type of pretty that is beyond pin-worthy and we’ve got it all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

Whimsical

From Ivy And Gold… This classic, elegant wedding was just right down to the last detail. Beautiful invitations, florals, and gowns were some of the many aesthetic highlights. The Tetherow was the most amazing backdrop, accenting the incredible scenery in Bend, Oregon.

From the Bride… As an event and wedding planner by profession, surprisingly one of my favorite parts of the day was letting others (including my talented sister-in-law) handle the details of setup and decor while I spent time getting ready with my 9 bridesmaids (who live all over the country and were able to all be in one place on that day).

Also, my sister stayed up with me all night the night before the wedding (I couldn’t sleep from nerves and excitement) and we grabbed Starbucks and chocolate chip pancakes at the break of dawn when the Original Pancake House opened – definitely a memory we won’t forget.

Elegant + Rustic Colorado Wedding

Rustic elegance set against a breathtaking Colorado backdrop is always a beautiful thing, especially when it features a duo as seriously sweet as these two cuties, plus a stunning Leanne Marshall gown and a breakfast burrito send-off.  (Awesome.)  Head to THE VAULT to soak in every brilliant image captured by Andy Barnhart Photography… it’s all sorts of pretty and then some.

From the Bride… We met on our study abroad semester in Chile in Spring 2008, and pretty much hit it off right from orientation. When the program ended in June, we agreed we had to give it a shot. I was a junior at UVA in Charlottesville and Jason a senior at George Washington University in DC, so we made it work on Greyhound buses for two years until I moved to DC. Throughout our seven years of dating, we took every opportunity we could to be outside and in the wilderness, taking trips to Northwest Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and to the Adirondacks in upstate New York. In March 2013, I moved to Boston for a new job, and Jason decided to come to Boston, too — a big moment for both of us. That summer, we got a rescued hound puppy and settled in to a new apartment. A year after moving to Boston, Jason got down on one knee in the middle of Boston Common and proposed, surprising me with both families the next morning.

We knew what mattered most for us was to get married surrounded by mountains — the backdrop for our best memories together and where we feel our best selves. We chose Steamboat Springs because it is another home for me after spending ten years there going to and eventually working at a wilderness camp, and is more recently for Jason too. We found Midnight Ranch after a long day of searching other venues and knew immediately it was the place – -wide open, remote, and authentic.

For the wedding, we wanted a ceremony that reflected our passions and shared values of family, friends, and the earth, so my aunt who we really admire officiated, and we also wrote our own vows for each other. The most important thing to us was to have fun, so we focused on having a great band (found by Jason’s brother in Denver!), a beautiful space bursting with flowers and lights, and lots of dancing. We really lucked out with a beautiful blue sky for the ceremony, and got to enjoy the cocktail reception for an hour before raindrops ushered everyone into the tent.

We had delicious local Colorado trout and lamb for dinner, and amazing pies brought all the way from my hometown for dessert. We mixed it up for our first dance and did a rowdy song that got everyone on the dance floor, and sent everyone home with breakfast burritos after late night around the bonfire. It was so perfectly “us” and the happiest day we’ve had, but looking forward to many more.

From Stefano SantucciHi, this is Regina and Ryan destination wedding in Tuscany.

They are both Americans who live a few miles away from New York. They decided to get married in Tuscany at a wonderful country chic wedding in Tuscany where everything was planned in detail.

Ryan is an important producer and Regina is a lovely girl with Italian origins. The ceremony took place in one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen, “l’Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore”, immersed in the forests and fields of Tuscany, in Buonconvento. After the moving ceremony, the Bride and Groom celebrated with their relatives and friends at Casali di Bibbiano, with the best Italian food and wine.

It has been an incredible and full day full of emotions and very well planned, R+R wedding started their big day at the Abbazia di Monteuliveto and finished with stunning fireworks performed during the cutting cake.

Ethereal Early Morning Wedding Inspiration

Today’s agenda? Snuggle up and stay put with these pics by Annamarie Akins. That’s it, and that’s fine with me because we have enough beauty to last all day from this bridesmaid shoot. With dresses from Jenny Yoo and J.Crew and hair ideas that we’re pinning pronto thanks to Top Knot Studio, these pics are majorly boosting our VAULT – don’t miss Handspun Cinema’s film either! Tuesday just got a lot better.

From Annamarie Akins Photography… Is there anything more nostalgic or glamorous than getting ready with your closest family and friends on the best day of your life? We have always loved our dress-up games, spending time with sisters and champagne toasts – so what better way to begin your wedding day! With this shoot we wanted to bring to life the effortlessness of a day spent being pampered and showered in glamour, surrounded by romantic landscapes and friends.

Did we mention the marble? Swannanoa is the epitome of romance and history, with its abandoned mansion made entirely of marble, overgrown gardens and secret hallways, all nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains – swoon! The all-white background was the perfect setting for our champagne, white, and ivory hues. The floral wrist corsages delicately placed on the bridesmaids complemented the lace coverlet that graced the bride’s collarbone. We were in heaven.

Rustic + Romantic Mountain Wedding at Claxton Farm

I’ve got a bit of a photography crush on this talented lady, Perry Vaile, right here, and this North Carolina wedding only feeds the fire. Under the guidance of Asheville Event Co., these two said “I do” with a backdrop to take your breath away and when the rain started to fall, the dancing really took off. See this showstopper and more in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… My husband and I celebrated our wedding in Asheville, North Carolina as it was close to our family who were unable to travel, an attraction for family and friends who were traveling, and it’s simply beautiful. We wanted to keep things simple and allow the natural beauty of the area be the backdrop of our celebration. Claxton Farm was recommended by Asheville Event Co. (our planner) and as soon as we saw it, we knew it was perfect. We wanted our guests to be comfortable and Claxton, located in an Appalachian mountain valley with 360 degree views, was strikingly gorgeous while at the same time provided plenty of shelter from the frequent storms that roll through the mountains during the North Carolina summertime.

We were humbled to have friends and family travel from all over the world to celebrate with us. We wanted to honor their effort with good food and a great party.

There was no theme exactly, I just wanted to keep everything simple and elegant. We were able to add a couple of personal touches to the occasion. My husband and I are known to enjoy a little bourbon so I saved bourbon bottles and repurposed them into flower vases at the reception. I folded 1000 paper cranes for our wedding, which according to Japanese legend symbolize eternal good luck. Bless those family members who diligently detangled the strands of paper cranes after a mountain storm swept through the valley 30 minutes before the ceremony. Another special touch was that my father, sister and brother sang “Swept Away” by the Avett Brothers with a bluegrass band during our ceremony.

There were some surprises such as a couple of quick rainstorms during the evening, which gave the night a magical quality – and who doesn’t love to dance in the rain?

Perry Vaile Photography was one of the very first vendors we requested and we were fortunate to have her capture our day. I had spent some time perusing wedding photos and her film photography stood out with its elegance and dreamlike quality. It’s such a blessing to be able to remember the love and joy shared that night in her resplendent photos.

We were very impressed with the professionalism and talent of all of our vendors, especially Liz Tallent of Asheville Event Co. As the wedding weekend came upon us, we were able to hand off all of the details to her, and she allowed us focus on what was important, which was to spend time with our family and friends and enjoy the party. Our wedding was one of the best days of our lives, and we were fortunate to be surrounded by so many friends and family who really know how to have a good time.
