From Brenda…

For this Shabby Chic Wedding that will take place in a vineyard, I wanted to create an inspiration board that didn’t go overboard with the wine theme as can sometimes be done when the wedding takes place at a vineyard. Wine elements could easily be infused throughout the event though. For example, why not create raspberry wine jam for your guests to take with them as they leave the reception? Also, you can even serve Raspberry wine. These perfect shabby chic finger bowls could be found at flea markets and then re-used again after the wedding. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to showcase a raspberry pie! And, for me, the wine stopper with glass knob completes the shabby chic look.

From Amanda…

So the first thing that came to mind when I was trying to envision this shabby chic, preppy, vineyard, raspberry inspired wedding was texture.  Second was the motif of grapes, but played out in raspberry and cream tones.  I had so much fun searching to find an elegant but whimsical combination of the two, which I think would definitely give her that unique feel she was going for.

I didn’t include any flowers in my board, but I would play off of the one on the bridesmaid dress, big open blooms like peonies all over the place.  I might even accent them with bunches of pearls to keep with the grape motif.  So many options!

From Aliesha…

This design board offers a sophisticated, yet vintage-chic approach to the vineyard wedding concept.  Incorporating details such as vintage corks and rustic barrels brings a down-to earth feel to the glamour of a vineyard wedding.  Allow the color scheme to come through beautiful, ALIVE things all around (green vines, grapes, raspberries, etc.).  Use creativity in incorporating personal and unexpected details (for example, a bicycle built for two).

From Vanessa…

My vision for this vintage-chic preppy vineyard wedding would include an intimate ceremony followed by a mini wine tasting with a selection of gourmet cheeses and fresh fruit. Following would be a family style reception with long wooden tables adorned with white linens and soft patterned napkins. Clusters of different shades of loosely packed pink flowers and fresh herbs in terra cotta pots would be grouped down the tables. Guests could top off their dishes with fresh mint, rosemary, and thyme. I can just imagine the smell of the herbs floating through the air… There would be a fantastic band serenadaing the guests throughout the evening. The soft candlelight hanging from the trees would cast a warm glow on the event. The bridesmaids could be dressed in raspberry tea length dresses with pearl necklaces and green pashminas. Perhaps the groom could wear a seersucker or tan suit and the bride a vintage inspired gown. Simply gorgeous.

SMP Loves…Rangoli

How beautiful is this picture? The hairpiece was made by the fabulously talented Aisling of Rangoli Jewelry in Dublin, Ireland. Every piece that she’s designed seems more beautiful than the next, crafted using very fine metallic threads so that they are actually a textile. Aisling’s work is absolutely stunning…from delicate tiaras to perfect bracelets. Definitely check out her site and her blog when you have some time!

Themed Engagement Photo Shoots: Getting To Know You

We frequently recommend that you check out our Little Black Book members’ websites and blogs. Frequently. And, honestly, we truly mean it. But when we say you really need to read Justin and Mary’s blog, we really, really mean it! These guys are the most inspirational, funny, giving souls you can imagine. They are always starting new projects … that give back to their peers as well as the community. Theirs is just one of those feel-good daily reads you ought to make part of your morning routine! Not to mention the photography. None better. Honest.

Now … back to business!  We asked Justin & Mary Marantz to give us their own take on engagement photos. Without further ado … The Marantz Approach.

You take out the hot rollers and plug in the flat iron. Your brow furrows as you mentally debate the merits of a rainbow of Mac eye shadows scattered across the bathroom sink. Do you feel like being “Bold & Brazen” today or do you just want to make a “Grand Entrance”? Either way, surely you should “Jest.” You pack five different pairs of black pointy-toed shoes into an already over-stuffed canvas bag because you just can’t decide which one is the most YOU right now. You hold outfit after outfit up to your bewildered fiance, whose sighs are growing more and more audible with each passing color combination. The brown definitely brings out his eyes…too bad it also brings out his hair, which he forgot to get cut this week. You tousle it in the front because, y’know, that messy look is in right now, and race out the door pulling enough luggage behind you to backpack through Europe.   And all the while. all you can think is, “I hope these pictures feel like…us.”

The engagement shoot can be a stressful time. We get that. You want them to look great, but you also want them to look natural. You’re not too big on being in front of the camera, but you want it to look like you didn’t even know (or care) that a camera was there. You have no idea what to wear or what to do, but all you really want at the end of the day is to look back at the pictures and go “wow, that’s so us.” And fifty years from now, you hope you’ll still be saying the same thing.
Enter, the “Themed Get to Know You Shoot.” Rest assured, this is no ordinary engagement shoot. It starts with the GTKY sheet where we ask all sorts of questions aimed at getting to know our clients better, and ends with a theme based all around what makes each of our couples unique. Maybe it’s a place you love, maybe it’s something you love to do together, maybe it’s just an overall feel. But whatever it is, at the end of the day it’s…you.
We’ve compiled some of our favorite Get to Know You shoots from over the past year, along with the original entry from each blog post explaining the theme. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

GTKY**A: When Julia & Mike sent us their “Get to Know You” sheet, one theme instantly jumped off the page at us. Actually, it jumped off the page, slapped us a few times, and shouted “HELLOOOOO.” But you get the idea. Under the question, “What do you think is unique about you as a couple,” these guys put that they love to share equally in the chores of taking care of their new 1950s style ranch…everything from the gardening to the vacuuming. So we thought, “Hey, we’re down with equality.” And what could possibly stand for equality more than a 1950s take on housework? Right?! Makes sense to me! Okay, so we put a slightly modern twist on this shoot to bring it into SOMETIME this century, but seriously how fun is this theme?? And Julia & Mike totally ROCKED it!! They went out and hunted down all the outfits you see to get totally in character. I LOVE it!!

GTKY*C:  “I turn on my computer. I wait impatiently as it connects. I go online, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You’ve got mail. I hear nothing. Not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beating of my own heart. I have mail. From you. ” – Kathleen Kelly, You’ve Got Mail The first time he saw her, it was only a picture. A snapshot that hung on a co-worker’s wall. But sometimes a snapshot, a small moment in time, is all you need to somehow…know. The first time they met, it was only a one liner. A crack about an old computer. But sometimes a laptop, even an old one, can bridge the miles between two hearts that somehow just…know. Natalie is a high fashion NYC girl. Chris is the laid back Californian. But for just one day, their paths crossed and nothing has ever been the same. For months they emailed back and forth. With her on the east coast, him on the west. Going about their days, living parallel lives, they were joined by the promise of just three little words. You’ve. Got. Mail.

Meet: Natalie & Chris Their Theme: You’ve Got Mail

Themed Engagement Shoots Marantz You've Got Mail

GTKY**D:  It all started with a pony tail. A pony tail, and a summer camp over a decade ago. It was one of those quick fleeting, almost trivial moments that could have easily been lost in time. Trivial, except that it would change everything for the rest of their lives. She had just casually pulled her hair back into a pony tail as she walked out of her cabin, but that was the moment that Josh looked up and saw Beth for the first time. Sure he had seen her before, but this was the first time he really *saw* her and knew his heart would never be the same. “It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.” Over ten years later they were reunited in San Francisco… and he’s still saying the same thing.

Real Wedding: Clair and David, VI

Here is a last look at the FABULOUS wedding that Alexandra Kolendrianos sent us…filled with fun, unexpected details (like a Rolling Stone cover band) and a chic, edgy but sophisticated style.

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

This is such a perfect example of something that I preach on SMP…if you find a venue that already has a charm and sense of style about it, you can really cut down on the amount of decor that you bring into the space. The restaurant at the Parker in Palm Springs has fabulous artwork, chairs that are elegant and super chic, and a general ambiance that screams style.

Thanks so much to Alexandra for sharing this with us and to Docuvitae for photographing it to perfection!

Real Wedding: Clair and David, V

Here is a peak into the absolutely gorgeous reception area from today’s featured wedding!

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

I love, love, love the lounge style ambiance that planner Alexandra Kolendrianos and florist, Keith Laverty created…it suits the chic, glamorous style that the bride was going for with the stunning gown, the black bridesmaids dresses… LOVE!

Real Wedding: Clair and David, IV

Okay, now on to the reception. It’s so completely glam, so utterly chic, it’s hard to find the right words to introduce this affair. As usual, Docuvitae has captured it to perfection so I’ll just let the photographs speak for themselves…

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

It’s kind of Holly Golightly meets Rock and Roll. Here are a few details from Alexandra

The dinner took place in the sexy Mr. Parkers restaurant.  Dark and dim with photos of the couple and families on the baby grand as guests entered.  The Maitre D escorted guests to their tables and a rolling stones cover band kicked off the dancing.  Blue velvet furniture and lighting transformed the ballroom foyer into a perfect dark club for their guests, as a full lounge under crystal chandeliers and tenting added an extra element of wow!

SO wish that I was a guest at this wedding! So much more to come!

Real Wedding: Clair and David, III

Today, we are featuring such a fun wedding. We show a lot of outdoor weddings, a ton of rustic chic style affairs. And not nearly enough glam weddings. So when Alexandra Kolendrianos sent me this wedding, held at the FABULOUS Parker Palm Springs, I jumped at the chance to feature it!

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

all photographs by the amazingly talented team at Docuvitae

From Alexandra…

Clair Parker (bride) & David Tompkin’s (groom) wedding was in January 2008.  The couple is from Texas as well as most of their guests.  It was an evening wedding and an incredibly hip and romantic night.  Thank goodness for a rain plan….it was gorgeous sunny skies during the day but the news kept predicting rain for 7pm that evening.  We put up a tent over the ceremony area, added chandelliers to it and sure enough, right as the bride was about to walk down the aisle, the skies opened up…thank goodness for a rain plan!! The amazing staff at the Parker jumped in with umbrella’s to walk with guests from the ceremony area into the dinner reception.

So much more to come!

Real Wedding: Clair and David, II

Before we dive into the utterly gorgeous ceremony and reception from today’s featured wedding, sent to us by Alexandra Kolendrianos, I wanted to share a few more of the “getting ready” photographs that Docuvitae shot. They are straight out of an editorial spread, so so chic.

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

The bride’s make-up was done by Neeraja Lockart and hair was done by Jose Neira. She is fabulous looking, with such a fun sense of style. It’s so clear to me that this wedding is a reflection of this gorgeous bride and her hip, fashion sense.

SMP Loves…Bridal Emunique!

The funky, twist-on-traditional jewelry that Bridal Emunique is featuring in their etsy shop right now is…ummm, fabulous! Crocheted and hand twisted 14 ct gold paired with the timeless sensibility of a fresh water pearl, every piece is more interesting than the next. I am loving every little bit of her current collection!

Real Wedding: Clair and David

I first fell in love with the Parker in Palm Springs when we featured this wild, fashion inspired wedding a while back. For a chic, modern bride…nothing beats this gorgeous venue. Although it’s incredibly high end, you actually can save quite a bit on decor because the natural ambiance is so SO fabulous.

When I saw Clair and David’s funky, ultra-glam Parker wedding that Alexandra Kolendrianos designed, well..I had to share!

Alexandra Kolandrianos The Parker Real Wedding

Wait until you see the stunning photography that Docuvitae captured. Their edgy, photojournalistic style is PERFECT for this wedding such that literally every photo could be in a magazine. And Alexandra, well, she put together a wedding that will definitely make you swoon…it’s glamorous, it’s intimate, it’s beyond chic. Stay tuned!

Chic-Rooftop Wedding in Charlotte Is Fairytale Material

We have been holding onto this awesome city-chic wedding sent to us by Kristin Vining of Weddings And The City…forever.  Just as we were about to post it, we got word that it was the Cover Feature in the Winter ’09 issue of Carolina Bride. Finally, it hit the newstands and now, we can share!

Brooke and Chris were married in Charlotte, North Carolina, this past September in a dreamy rooftop ceremony on The Terrace at the Mint Museum of Craft & Design. What a great venue for a wedding!

Before we get to the wedding, though, we simply must show you a few photographs from the bridal shoot that Brooke and Kristin had in New York City (a birthday gift to Brooke from Chris)! Isn’t she absolutely gorgeous?

Keep an eye out for more of Brooke’s beautiful bridal shoot photos seen throughout the post …

What little we know about Brooke’s gown comes from the fine print of the Carolina Bride Magazine posted on Kristin’s blog. Her breathtaking wedding dress is by Cymbeline/France.

We originally showed you Brooke’s shoes way back in November in one of our Wedding Shoes posts on the Little Black Book Blog.

If this young lady isn’t headed to hollywood, yet … I think we need to pull some strings to get her there!

Again, the article about Chris and Brooke’s wedding is story-book perfect. He proposed on bended knee at 11:30 on New Year’s Eve after a walk through the snow at Lake Tahoe. Brooke, immediately asked Kristin Vining to be their photographer and hired Kristin’s Wedding Planning Company, Weddings And The City, to assist her with the wedding plans. Her avid fascination with Audrey Hepburn translated into a luscious rooftop wedding filled with an abundance of stunning pink flowers and pink and chocolate silk linens. Floral design provided by Taylor O’Shields at The Place For Flowers.

Thank you SO much, Kristin, for sending Brooke and Chris’s wedding our way! Love, love, love it!

Kristin has a fantastic deal going on over at her photography blog … ‘a Facebook Frenzy Giveaway‘ … so for all of you Facebook afficianados, take a look!
