Shelter Island Wedding at La Maison Blanche from Dove + Sparrow

Have I mentioned just how much I adore Dove + Sparrow?  How I seriously jump out of my seat when I see their name pop up in my inbox; how I am downright obsessed with every single wedding they send our way?  Well, if I haven’t, then consider this my official announcement: they are awesome and I love them with every ounce of my being.  Because when I see affairs like this sweet Shelter Island beauty, it’s a full-blown obsession from the get-go.  One that has me swooning over darling DIY details, a breathtaking setting and one crazy amazing Pennington Flowers bouquet.  Click here for all of the pretty.

From the Bride… My husband, Nic, and I met in 2008 in Princeton, NJ. A few months later, he accepted a job offer and moved to Maine. Over the past four years, and despite a move to Boston on my part, we have never lived less than 200 miles away from on another. Our families are even farther away, with mine still in NJ and his in Sweden. Therefore, being able to host a wedding and have all of our family and friends together in one place was very special to us.

My great grandparents purchased a home off the coast of the Hamptons on Shelter Island, NY in the 1940s, which is now shared among my grandmother’s siblings and used as a summer home among our families. Shelter Island is a small island between the north and south forks of Long Island, and is only accessible by ferry. I have such wonderful, happy memories of Shelter Island from my childhood, so Nic and I thought it would be the perfect place to get married. With its small community and laid-back feel, it was a great setting for our intimate wedding.

Many of our guests traveled from Sweden to celebrate with us. Our friends’ and family’s presence meant so much to us that it became even more important to us to have a hand in the small details. I made over 100ft of pennants for the hotel’s porches, as well as the programs, menus, cake topper, table numbers, and heart garland for the place cards (which our guests turned into name tags!). We spent the year collecting bottles for our flowers… we had about 250 of them. My bridesmaids and I had arranged about 60 jars of white roses for the rehearsal dinner the night before, which were repurposed for the ceremony. We realized that the chapel can be hard to find, so Nic and I made wooden signs pointing our guests in the right direction.

The ceremony took place at the Union Chapel in the Grove. Built in 1875, it is the quintessential Hamptons chapel, with its wooden exterior and colorful interior, complete with stained glass windows that incorporate actual local sea shells into the designs. Friends played acoustic guitar for the processional and recessional and our siblings did the readings. My father walked me down the aisle, and I held the cross necklace my late grandfather wore every day throughout the ceremony. Our best friends served as our bridal party, and our officiant read a prayer in honor of Nic’s mother. The ceremony was very personal and intimate.

The reception was held at La Maison Blanche. We wanted it to feel like a big, end-of-summer back yard party. The cocktail hour took place on the front porch of the hotel, where guests could relax or play a game of petanque on the hotel’s courts. Dinner and dancing took place on the back porch, with guests enjoying french bistro-style fare, such as lamb burgers and pomme frites. My good friend, Whitney of Whitney Stanek Photography, kindly donated her photo booth set up for the night, which was a huge hit.

Swedish weddings are typically very formal (men wear morning coats, women wear ball gowns and gloves), so our relaxed vibe was a change for the Swedes, but we did keep the Swedish tradition of speeches during dinner. Instead of toasts, friends and family give long (they can last over a half hour!) speeches, that can include anything from photo presentations to skits. In order to coordinate everything, the groom assigns one of his groomsmen to the title of “toastmaster,” which is similar to the US title of best man. (Aside from toastmaster, we didn’t have a best man or maid of honor, and chose to go with “best men” and “best ladies.”) Those who could not make it to the wedding also sent in toasts to be read aloud during dinner.

I had very specific ideas about how I wanted everything to look, from the flowers to the place settings, and I couldn’t have been happier to see it all executed. Specifically, Jeff Pennington’s team at Pennington Flowers in Southampton, NY, did an excellent job. I said I wanted a h-u-g-e bouquet, and they delivered! They were also so easy to work with and the reception flowers were exactly what I wanted. I can’t say enough great things about them! We were so happy to be able to host our family and friends in such a beautiful, happy setting.

San Francisco’s Lover’s Lane Engagement from Alicia Gines Photography

Beyond the gorgeous details, the stunning venues, the gorgeous gowns – what really makes me adore coming back to SMP everyday is the love I get to see play out through images. Love like this couple’s – that is so strong you can almost feel it in every perfect picture Alicia Gines Photography snapped up. And you can see exactly what I mean right here, in the full gallery of images

From AliciaThis is a beautiful engagement session highlighted around quirky vintage props such as a radio, camera, bike, and yummy snacks like cream soda in a glass bottle! The most beautiful location for a love like this; San Fransisco’s Lover’s Lane, was where everything took place. The lighting was breath taking; the sun was beaming as it does in the spring time, and the good ol’ San Fransisco fog was rolling in all just at the right time so that it was creating beautiful rainbow flares for the camera. Just about every photo is adorned with rainbows; priceless really! If the amazing weather and props were not enough; the couple would make you speechless, as they did me, if you could witness it in person! Their love for one another was not clear at first until they were asked to rely on one another for comfort, it was then that it really shined through! They snuggled, kissed, got silly, but in the end they had an amazing time being… comfortable, for the first time in front of a professional camera. It needs to be known that love IS beautiful no matter if you are gay, straight, purple or polka-dotted! Telisha and Patricia’s love shows everyone just how amazing love can be if you look!

Los Angeles Wedding from JAC Photography

After spending the day with this boho glam soiree, we were certain today could not get better. But then this modern lovefest came along. Stealing our hearts with every impossibly chic detail crafted by Orange Blossom Special Event. Woven with a layer of total intimacy and warmth , it’s the kind of dinner party-style wedding we soooo wish we were crashing. And making us all the more envious? The gorgeous photos from JAC Photography and video from Studio 205 Films. Have a look for even more here.

From the Bride…My husband and I briefly met in college, but didn’t start dating until several years later while living in Santa Monica, California.  Even though we had relocated to Santa Barbara, we knew Los Angeles was the perfect location for our wedding, as well as a convenient destination for out of town guests. From the beginning, I envisioned my wedding to be an intimate dinner party.  After going through a tentative guest list, and wanting to include all of our family and friends, my dinner party had gone from 20 to 120 guests.  We looked at several venues that didn’t feel quite right, but after visiting the Carondelet House, we knew it could capture the intimate feeling we wanted on a larger scale.

Once we decided on the venue, so many elements fell into place.  I strongly believe the venue helps determine most of the decisions you’ll make, from the style of your dress to the formality of your invites.  Since the Carondelet House is such a beautiful venue, I felt like all I had to do was add flowers and candles.  No extra décor and lighting needed! With that in mind, and as a budding floral designer (Heirloom & Bloom), I wanted the flowers to be special.  I have followed Style Me Pretty since 2008, when my sister was planning her wedding, which led me to Holly Flora.  I have admired them for years and knew they were the right fit for my aesthetic.  They were able to set the tone for the rustic, elegant wedding of my dreams.

I DIY’ed the escort cards (which I hung from a vintage birdcage), table numbers (made from stencils and stationary from Paper Source), and note cards stamped with our initials (for guests to leave messages on).  My sister made a shadowbox frame guest book (with paper hearts for the guests to sign), which now hangs in our office. Some of the best advice I received was “it’s just a big party” and “no one will know if something isn’t executed the right way or you didn’t have time for a last minute project.”  In the end, all that matters is celebrating the love between you and your husband, with the people that mean the most to you.

Behind the Scenes with Geminola

If you’re a Sex and the City or Girls fan, you may have heard the name Geminola in the past. Miss Carrie Bradshaw has been known to wear a Lorraine Kirke original in her time, and Jessa Johansson (Lorraines daughter!) donned one of her frocks during that infamous wedding scene not long ago. But if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of getting to know this incredible designer, allow me to make your acquaintance. Lorraine Kirke is the definition of inspiration. Her wisdom and attitude are absolutely infections and I must insist you read on. And thanks to the one and only Bryce Covey, we’ve got LOTs more right here in the gallery.

SMP: How did you get your start in the fashion industry?

LK: I got started through my love of textiles. I had so many and I decided that they needed to be seen rather than folded in a closet!

SMP: From where do you draw your inspiration?

LK: My inspiration comes from movies books, paintings and all things romantic.

SMP: What matters to you most as a designer?

LK: It’s very important for me to stay true to what I love. I don’t follow trends.

SMP: How has your London past and British roots influenced your style?

LK: English country gardens, a little eccentricity and a healthy sense of humor are all things I’m proud to have under my belt due to my roots.

SMP: If you had to wear one item every day, what would it be and why?

LK: A favorite pair of jeans hoop earrings (always). Oh, and I always carry a basket!

SMP: What do you think we should we look forward to in terms of upcoming fashion trends?

LK: I don’t like to follow trends. I think recycling what you have has to be the way to go.

SMP: Any tricks for achieving that eclectic vibe you’re known and loved for?
LK: Spend what you have and don’t be afraid to get creative!

SMP: What’s your very favourite piece in your newest collection?
LK: My favorite new piece is the alma dress. It’s sassy and elegant and pairs perfectly with flip flops or high Charlotte Olympias and a smile. Oh and hoop earrings, of course!

SMP: Three things every woman should have in her closet?
LK: I have no tricks. Just wear what you love and makes you feel great!

SMP: Your most prized possession?
LK: My most prized possession! A vintage lace gown that hangs visibly in my studio that is tea dyed and soooo romantic.I have not yet had the occasion to wear but it makes one daydream!

SMP: The most exciting moment in Gemolina’s history thusfar?
LK: It’s exiting every time someone comes to the store or the studio. To this day I love watching them twirl around and feel like a kid in a candy store!

Massachusetts Wedding from Tim Correira Photography + Elegant Aura

I can’t help but smile when I see a playful couple on their wedding day. Tim Correira’s image of the groom whispering something in his beautiful bride’s ear at the chuppah made my day and then some. Elegant Aura planned a wedding for the sweet couple that is unbelievably gorgeous. So gorgeous, you may just favorite every single image.

From the planner… Indie rock meets vintage chic. This romantic garden wedding was in perfect harmony. Debbie and Reuben were married at the Elm Bank Horticultural Society in Wellesley, MA in front of 170 guests.

The outdoor ceremony took place overlooking an Italianate garden with a jazz trio playing background music. The bride and groom with their parents, stood under a chuppah made of birch trees which were dripping with pastel-colored ribbons and mason jars holding yellow, peach and orange dahlias. It was surely appropriate for the groom to serenade his bride during the ceremony, since they met while his band was playing at a local music club.

The jazz trio continued to play during the cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and sipped on Watermelon Agua Fresca and Cucumber Lime Mint Agua Fresca while meandering throughout whimsical, Weezie’s garden. Other guests played bocci ball on an open lawn.

When it was time for the reception, everyone entered the carriage house through an arbor fence, where guests picked up their place cards. The bride hand wrote the escort cards on vintage style tags, which were tied to packets of specialty tea. Pastel colors of mint, blush, soft blue and peach continue in the carriage house. With the addition of the bridesmaid’s bouquets, mason jars and birdcages create the vintage-shabby chic centerpieces. White sheers drape across the ceiling and a large crystal chandelier hangs in the center of the carriage house.

After dinner, the Mezinka & Horah dances kick-off the party. Throughout the night a DJ plays indie rock between sets of Latin jazz music played by a five-piece band. The band is a favorite of the groom’s parents, so they were flown in from Miami.

It was thrilling working with Debbie and Reuben on their wedding day, and seeing all of their personal and cultural influences come together.

Behind the Scenes with Target Registry + Bohemian Glam Party + DIYS

We’ve shown you just how simple it is to incorporate your Target Registry picks into a real life party and now we are going to delve behind the pretty images for a peek at the makings of this Bohemian Glam affair. Have a look at this film showcasing all the behind the scenes action plus a peek out how we layered on the boho glamour to really make the party shine.

Target_Bohemian_Banner

Cute right? Well we’re so not done yet. We have not one but four easy peasy DIY’s to share. These projects were inspired by our Target finds and will really help to personalize your upcoming party. From marbled paper (double swoon!) and right on through to gold dipped feathers, these are elements that no Boho Glam party should go without.

DIP-DYE-NAPKINS

Materials

RIT dye in orange, purple, navy, brown, and pink
White cotton napkins from Target
3 small foam paint brushes
Latex gloves
Plastic cups
Large metal or glass bowl
Clothespins, drying rack, & old towel
Paper towels
Plastic spoon

[dotted]

Step-1Set your drying rack over the old towel, and keep it close to your workstation. Set out two clothespins for each napkin you plan to dye on the rack. Cover your work surface with cardboard, tinfoil, or a trash bag to protect it. Put on your gloves & apron.

Step-2Fill the large bowl with enough warm water to submerge a whole napkin. Stir in pink and orange RIT dye and test with a strip of paper towel until you reach the desired coral color. Always start with a little bit (these dyes are powerful) and add more gradually.

Step-3Fold your napkin in thirds and then in half. Submerge the napkin in the dye completely, then pull out and wring out the excess liquid. Hang on the drying rack. Repeat with remaining napkins.

Step-4Fill 3 plastic cups a little more than halfway with water. Stir in navy, purple, and brown dyes (one to each cup) and test with paper towel until desired darkness has been reached.

step-5Make sure your gloves & work surface are clean of dye, then bring one napkin over to the work surface. Use the foam paintbrushes to paint watery stripes on the bottom of the napkin. Flip over and paint the same stripes on the backside (it will soak through to the middle layers). Hang back on the drying rack, and repeat with remaining napkins.

Step-6Let napkins dry overnight and they’ll be ready to party!

Gold-Votives

Materials

Metal votive holders from Target. Similar here
Masking tape
Plastic wrap, tin foil, or paper
Gold spraypaint

[dotted]

Step-1Wrap a strip of masking tape around the votive holder, marking off the bottom 1/3 or so. Wrap another piece of masking tape around the top of the votive holder.

Step-2Wrap plastic, tin foil, or paper around the area of the votive holder between the two masking tape lines. Seal to the tape with another layer of masking tape.

Step-3Place the votive holder on a piece of cardboard or trash bag. Spray the inside of the votive holder with gold spray paint. Then spray the uncovered portion on the outside of the holder. Let dry 1/2 hour.

Step-4Remove the masking tape & covering. Place candle inside & light!

Marbled-Paper

Materials

Alum (spice aisle in the grocery store)
Liquid starch (next to spray starch in the grocery store)
Dishwashing soap
Acrylic paint in 3-4 colors
Empty plastic squeeze bottles (one for each color of paint)
Wooden skewers or chopsticks
Aluminum baking tray, several inches deep and larger than your paper
Paper of your choice

[dotted]

Step-1Mix together 2 cups liquid starch & 1 tsp alum and pour into the baking tray.

Step-2Mix together one color acrylic paint, a little water, and a drop of dishwashing soap in the plastic squeeze bottle. Repeat with the remaining colors. The water and the soap thin out the paint and help it float on the surface of the starch.

Step-3Shake drops of paint from your squeeze bottles into the baking pan.

Step-4Use the skewers to draw lines through the paint drops, horizontally and then vertically.

step-5Gently float your paper on the surface of the paint. If the corners curl up, press them down with your fingers, and hold the paper in place for 10-20 seconds.

Step-6Remove the paper from the tray and wipe off excess liquid with a paper towel. Lay on several sheets of paper towel to dry overnight. If the paper is curved, it can be ironed flat again.

Step-7Repeat one to two more times with that paint. The colors get muddy quickly, so run a piece of newsprint or paper towel across the surface to remove the paint and then you can lay down new colors and patterns to make as many papers as you like.

Gold-Feathers

Materials

White feathers (available at craft stores)
Gold spraypaint
Spray adhesive
Gold glitter

[dotted]

Step-1Place feathers on a sheet of cardboard or trash bag. Spray paint the top 1/4 of the feather with gold spray paint. Let dry.

Step-2Spray the top 3/4 of the gold painted portion of each feather with the spray adhesive.

Step-3Sprinkle on gold glitter. Shake off the excess. Let dry for 1 hour, and they’re ready to go!

Designing for Kids from Jennifer Lindberg & Make and Matter

Morning lovelies! We’re diving right into all of the design pretty today and I have to say…I’m not sure what I love more, these adorably playful rooms, or the cute kids that reside within them. Trina, mom and graphic designer extraordinaire at Make and Matter (who is largely responsible for the amazing design behind SMP), did a fab job at pulling these spaces together, fit for even the tiniest design aficionados. Photographed by Jennifer Lindberg, there’s lots more where this came from right here.

From Trina… When I work with my clients at Make and Matter, I try to advise them to pull inspiration, then follow intuition and your gut. Pick pieces and colors that speak to you. Gather items and then pull together all of those items into one space and see what items kind of speak to one another. I do this via screenshots on my always-packed desktop and a drawer full of pulled out pages from magazines and catalogs. From there, we just take it and run.

At the end of the day, I always keep in mind who the design is for. For kids, I want design to be fun, whimsical, and hopefully foster creativity. Things should be on their level. Also, don’t forget to plan for growth. Your toy collection expands the older kids get, so the more storage the better. Bins make picking up and organizing a cinch and allow you to hide toys that don’t fit into the overall design scheme.

When I was designing my children’s rooms and play areas I used the same process that I do for my branding work. Gather inspiration, think about the end user, and then just experiment until it feels right. Repeating colors, using patterns and scale – all of these items came into play.

For my daughter Avery’s nursery, I found inspiration in the coral and poppy color family. I love these tones because they are feminine and sweet, without being too “super-girly-pink” and not as harsh as red. The Dwell bedding and striped rug kicked off her room.

For my son Easton’s big-boy-room, I knew I wanted to use the colors orange and blue so that we could reuse some of his nursery items. We added in the olive green after I found the Serena and Lily quilt. The quilt was a little serious for a three-year-old and my husband gave me a lot of grief over ordering it. But I made sure to bring in more fun with the huge E, other fun art and lots of toys on the shelves.

Designing these rooms for my kids was a blast and it all came together rather quickly. It was more of just figuring out what direction to go in and then trying to stick to it without getting distracted by other things that I loved.

Being a designer makes me over analyze every single decision. I feel like it all must come together perfectly. I am honestly still working to make it “right” in my eyes. It is a blessing and a curse. But I am still able to feel pure happiness and excitement while I watch them grow up in these spaces.

Trabuco Canyon Wedding at The Parker Ranch from Katie Beverley of Jessica Claire

When a blogger like Emily of Could Be Interesting ties the knot, I always get a bit giddy to sit down with their wedding – because I  just know it will be overflowing with lovely. And when it’s all captured by Katie Beverley, Associate Shooter for Jessica Claire? That’s when I feel like I’ve hit the wedding-blogger jackpot. It’s DIY on a completely different (super stylish) level, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From the BrideMatt and I were engaged for two years and I spent much of that time planning our wedding. We knew from the start we wanted something rustic and romantic. This proved to be tough in the Orange County area with the added requirement of a site that could hold our 320 person guest list. We looked at 5 venues and talked with even more. Finally about a year into planning we found Parker Ranch in Trabuco Canyon. It was perfect. We knew right away that this was our wedding venue. We dreamed of getting married below the “oak trees”.

Once we had the date and location booked all of the pieces started falling into place. It was such a treat to have so much time to plan each thing and create all the little details. I found a lot of inspiration on blogs and wedding sites and did quite a bit of blogging on my own site Could Be Interesting. I made a plethora of inspiration boards and really studied the images that I put on my blog and pinned on Pinterest. It made the whole event so special and meaningful to everyone involved. I really had the most amazing time planning everything. And in the end, the day was perfect. More than I could ever dreamed of.

Once we found our venue, some of my early inspiration ideas changed. I knew that with all the natural features of the venue I wanted a subdued rustic elegance. I started looking through flowers and stumbled upon a simple baby’s breath bouquet and that pretty much started it all. I kept the flowers pretty simple– pale pinks and peaches, along with wood and fresh greens. My mother would tell you I was channeling my grandmother throughout the planning of the event. Both of them were very creative, delicate, wonderful women and inspired me throughout the planning. I got my love of the color pink from them. Over time I started collecting details and images that helped me to find the vision I wanted. This wedding was a celebration of our families and friends. Not about our son and us. But our opportunity to show all the wonderful people in our lives how much they mean to us and what they have all done for us. A way to thank them for being in our lives.

DIY’s oh geez. I can tell you that after this wedding my father never wants to see me craft again. I mean like ever. There was little I didn’t do myself. When you have 2 years to plan a 320 person wedding there is a lot of thought that goes in to “what will make this special for each person attending”. So I hand-dyed and put together each garland, stained the wood baskets, hand-painted the signs, designed the wedding invitations, painted the cake labels and signs, created the favor bags, collected mason jars, handcrafted our vow box with Matt, and the ring bearer box. I also got to collaborate with my wonderful friend Jessica Murray to design the Bridesmaids dresses, which was so special! Each girl got to pick a style and then Jessi, my sister and I went to purchase the fabric in LA. Such a fun experience and it really let me have some special moments with my wonderful bridesmaids. Wow I can’t even remember everything I made now. But it was a majority of the details. Which was great. I enjoyed every minute of it.

The invitations were a project I worked on with Joy Laforme. I contacted her after meeting through an Alt class and asked if she would put together some florals for me. I told her that we would be using baby’s breath and Juliette roses in our bouquets and our wedding colors were pale pinks, peaches, salmon and gold. She immediately got back to me with the wonderful flowers used in the invite. It took a while to perfect it but once we did we had a great invitation suite.

The cake table was a collaboration between myself and Jennie from Pop Culture desserts. I don’t think I can tell you how amazing Jennie is. She really captured my idea and with our props combined she created the most incredible dessert tables and treats ever. Jennie also supplied the macarons for our wedding favors. For those I purchased some simple muslin bags and using iron on paper, I created our “Love is Sweet & So are you” logo. Ironing on 320 of those bad boys was a process but definitely worth it!

I also hoarded mason jars for two year. Really I think we currently have about 200 mason jars. All different shapes and sizes. They held water on the tables and flowers all over the venue.

Matt and I made these wonderful activity books for all the kids, which was really fun. Quite a few parents told me they took some home and their kids played with them for days.

Our vow box was designed & created by Matt. We filled it with our written vows, our hand fasting ribbon, a copy of our ceremony readings & quotes, and a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label whiskey to be opened when we need a reminder of our decision to be joined forever.

Our wedding day truly was the perfect day. I remember someone asking me at the rehearsal dinner what I most wanted on my wedding day. I told them besides marrying the man of my dreams, I wanted to see all of those wood tables under the Oak trees filled with the people we loved. I wanted to see them smiling and laughing and having the time of their lives. And we got that. It was incredible. The entire evening was filled with so much happiness and joy. And the speeches– all were so incredibly special and meaningful. We were laughing and crying, but in a good way. My sister’s was especially touching. Something I will never forget.

One moment that brought me an immense amount of joy was the father-daughter dance. I surprised my father by choosing our special song, Moon River by Andy Williams. This song holds a lot of meaning for us and the meaningful smile that I got from my father proved that this was not only the day I dreamed of, but his as well. And then he spun me around and my smile just kept getting bigger (as you can see in the pictures).

I am also eternally grateful to my aunt Katherine who officiated for us. She and I have always had a great relationship and as a Buddhist she brought some very special insight into our ceremony. She gave me strength and confidence as we embarked in our marriage. It meant so much to have her there with us.

The night ended when the Vintage Rolls Royce pulled up and everyone created a tunnel for us to run through before being whisked away to the Montage for our wedding night. Matt had planned all that for us, which was so so special. Cuddling up next to him in the back, sipping champagne, while the rain came down, and he was finally my husband. That might have been one of the most special moments in my life.

Illinois Wedding at The Fountain Blue from Kina Wicks

You know those weddings where classic stylings mix and mingle with amazing whimsical details?  Where lush blooms play nice with hot pink, and dapper men in tuxes kick it up a notch with just a dash of vibrant color?  Well, lovelies… this is one of those weddings.  An ode to all things elegant with a fabulous team of vendors (+ a beautiful bride and groom) taking the reigns to ensure a a day that was, from start to finish, all about the pretty.  See every last moment captured by Kina Wicks in the full gallery.

From Kina WicksI absolutely loved shooting Christine & Kevin’s wedding day at The Fountain Blue in Des Plaines, Illinois. The touches of pink, the very personal ceremony with traditions from both of their families and cultures and the warmth that pervaded the entire day… so great. Christine and Kevin’s personalities were apparent in the little details of the day, which I love as well.

Nature Inspired Photo Shoot from Thomas Stewart

This, my friends, is the reason that Australia is so darn awesome.  The reason I giddily open each and every Australian submission like it’s Christmas morning.  It’s that breathtaking countryside (does it get any more beautiful?) combined with a dreamy inspiration shoot from some of The Land Down Under’s most amazing vendors.  I’m talking Pearl and Petal, Ivory and Lace and Mea Sculpture (among others) joining forces to really, really deliver the pretty.  Its a non-stop day of lovely all captured beautifully by Thomas Stewart and you can see it all right here in the full gallery.

From Thomas Stewart… The idea behind the shoot was to create a dream-like bedroom scene where nature makes the ordinary extraordinary. We knew that we had found what we were looking for when we happened upon this incredible tree while driving one afternoon. We immediately stopped the car and said ‘this is it’! We literally went into the house on the land and spoke with a lovely old lady named June who gave us permission to use her land for our shoot. We loved the feel of the fabrics, lights and the crystals all together with the huge arms of this ancient and amazing tree. The light behaved beautifully creating a gorgeous and ethereal feel.

Maui Wedding from Wendy Laurel Photography

A proposal in Paris and a wedding in Maui? I’d say this Bride is one lucky lady. Not to mention, the day she said I do to her handsome Groom was absolutely beautiful. Beyond beautiful actually, and it was all captured in a way only Wendy Laurel can. It’s image after image of pure perfection, making me think that we all got lucky with this one too. See it all here.

From Wendy Laurel PhotographyCallie and Zach have been together for a while but Zach still managed to surprise her with a marriage proposal in Paris.  The couple are from the SF Bay Area where Callie works for the SF Giants.. hence her good luck World Series ring she sported during the wedding ceremony, along side her gorgeous vintage wedding band.  Also in attendance was the family vase from Paris. Its considered good luck to have this vase at all family special events so its been in labor rooms and weddings and even made the trip to Maui to hold tropical flowers for her wedding.

Savannah Wedding at The Hyatt Regency from Red Fly Studio

Even though I’ve never actually stepped foot in Savannah, I am fairly certain it’s one of the greatest cities in the world.  That’s a hard and true fact that comes from hours upon hours of research, aka, swooning over gorgeous Savannah weddings day in and day out.  And it’s weddings like this little gem of a day captured by Red Fly Studio that are the epitome of all things Savannah, a Southern beauty with pretty pink hues, classic details and love-filled moments bursting from every nook and cranny.  See it all in the full gallery.

From Red Fly Studio… We loved shooting Lacey and Kyle’s sweet southern wedding. Lacey and Kyle were married at the Isle of Hope Methodist in Savannah, GA. The weather was perfect for lots of outdoor photos in front of the historic church. We, also, took advantage of the cute little neighborhood around the church near the marsh. After, the sweet ceremony, we headed over to the Hyatt on Bay Street that over sits on the Savannah River. It was the perfect place to celebrate, watch the sun set and dance the night away.

Washington Wedding from License to Still and Valley & Co.

Every once in a while we need a little shot of girly to keep our pink adoring, floral loving, butterfly smitten hearts going. Today, Valley & Co. is bringing it with this stunning soiree captured by License to Still. The wedding is just the perfect amount of feminine pretty to keep our cheeks nice and rosy.

From the planner… Jessica and Dalton’s wedding was a study in classic elegance with a dreamy and playful undertone. Bride Jessica had a vision of pretty pinks, lavenders and butterflies adorning her family estate property and we worked to incorporate this ethereal vision throughout with touches of pale mint, textured linens, blushing plantings, and whimsical props.

Both Jessica and Dalton wanted to create a setting that was unforgettable, comfortable and fun so we focused on the pool for our ceremony focal point and created a design with Ravenna Bloom to accentuate the water {the team drew straws to determine who was to get in the chilly pool to anchor the floral orbs!}. Guests enjoyed a lingering happy hour with lawn games and a Northwest oyster bar and were then transported into our tent aglow with six over sized sparkling chandeliers.

Festive and lively celebration followed our multi-course dinner with a live band, photo booth and treats and guests bid the newlyweds adieu with a sparkler exit.

Bohemian Glam Registry Inspiration from Target + SMP

For the last few months, we’ve gotten cozy with Target for registry inspiration that runs the gamut as far as tastes and styles go. These dream registries and accompanying photo shoots have been inspired by our very own editors and their fab style. First up, we indulged in a little Prep Chic with Abby C. Then came Rustic Beauty with Libby. Next, we met Stephanie and her pretty Ladylike Style and now we’re finishing up with a bang. Get ready to dive into gold-filled, Bohemian Glam registry inspiration with our girl Jess.

Target_Bohemiam_JessMike

Target’s Wedding Registry is a playground of goodness. The kind of goodness that covers everything from the perfect tabletop pieces for your first dinner party as husband and wife to great decor elements for building that cozy love nest; emphasis on the cozy. And to show you just how awesome Target’s selection is, we’ve curated must haves centered around a bohemian glam style which is right up Jess and Mike’s alley. Here’s a bit more about this dynamic duo…

[dotted]

Jess… She is one of the most creative ladies around, has a soft spot for designing environments and enjoys having full run of her house decor. Her happy place is a layer of gold and metallic woven throughout. There’s nothing that a dash of sparkle can’t cure. And when she’s not going for the gold, she’s layering patterns and jewel tones.

Mike… He’s an engineer by day and also wears the master chef hat of the household. He loves trying new recipes and making special creations for the couple’s friends and fam. (Individual cornish game hens with roasted root veggies, anyone?) Another favorite of his is traveling. Case in point: this Mr. did all the planning for their (almost overpacked) honeymoon – Krakow, Vienna, Bologna, Rome, & Ponza all in 2 weeks!

Together, these two love to host dinners and really want to fill their home with pieces that are perfect for entertaining and nights spent laughing with their friends. Also on the must-have list? Items that allow for their guests to feel warm and comfortable when they come over, but not overly fussy. For this couple, a layered look full of rich colors, sparkly metallics and easy entertaining pieces are all on the list. Now stay tuned to see how we turn this Boho Glam registry into a gorgeous dinner party complete with fab DIYs. We couldn’t leave those out, could we?

Splurge or Save: The Living Room Edition

This series is by no means revolutionary, but the frugalista within me always gets really excited when I stumble across one (just me?!) I can’t help it, I simply love a deal! I have to admit though, a few of these numbers are a no brainer in my eyes (umm save?!) Except for the couch. Have you ever sat on a Montauk couch? Because it’s comparable to baby angels. Yep, it’s that good and well worth every exorbitant penny. Tell me, if you had to decide, would you splurge or would you save?

New York City Elopement from Alicia Swedenborg Photography

There’s a reason why some of the world’s greatest love stories take place in the heart of New York City, and that reason is simple.  NYC rocks… and amongst all of the bright lights, hustle and bustle and excitement is a true and honest romantic vibe that bursts from every last building, borough and city sidewalk.  It’s the kind of place that makes you want to grab your honey and say “I do” with nothing but each other; the kind of place that is made for elopements.  And this darling duo’s day is just that.  An amazing affair with a stunning Zetterberg Couture gown and Alicia Swedenborg on hand to capture every moment.  Click here for sooo much more.

From Alicia SwedenborgThis couple is from Sweden and grew up in the country but loves the opposite – a big city! So they decided to elope and get married in New York City. It was just the two of them, no guests and we had plenty of time taking photos in the sunset!
