Behind the ScenesFashionAt Work
If you're a Sex and the City or Girls fan, you may have heard the name Geminola in the past. Miss Carrie Bradshaw has been known to wear a Lorraine Kirke original in her time, and Jessa Johansson (Lorraines daughter!) donned one of her frocks during that infamous wedding scene not long ago. But if you haven't yet had the pleasure of getting to know this incredible designer, allow me to make your acquaintance. Lorraine Kirke is the definition of inspiration. Her wisdom and attitude are absolutely infections and I must insist you read on. And thanks to the one and only Bryce Covey, we've got LOTs more right here in the gallery.
SMP: How did you get your start in the fashion industry?

LK: I got started through my love of textiles. I had so many and I decided that they needed to be seen rather than folded in a closet!
SMP: From where do you draw your inspiration?

LK: My inspiration comes from movies books, paintings and all things romantic.
SMP: What matters to you most as a designer?

LK: It's very important for me to stay true to what I love. I don't follow trends.
SMP: How has your London past and British roots influenced your style?

LK: English country gardens, a little eccentricity and a healthy sense of humor are all things I'm proud to have under my belt due to my roots.
SMP: If you had to wear one item every day, what would it be and why?

LK: A favorite pair of jeans hoop earrings (always). Oh, and I always carry a basket!
SMP: What do you think we should we look forward to in terms of upcoming fashion trends?

LK: I don't like to follow trends. I think recycling what you have has to be the way to go.

SMP: Any tricks for achieving that eclectic vibe you’re known and loved for?
LK: Spend what you have and don't be afraid to get creative!

SMP: What’s your very favourite piece in your newest collection?
LK: My favorite new piece is the alma dress. It's sassy and elegant and pairs perfectly with flip flops or high Charlotte Olympias and a smile. Oh and hoop earrings, of course!

SMP: Three things every woman should have in her closet?
LK: I have no tricks. Just wear what you love and makes you feel great!

SMP: Your most prized possession?
LK: My most prized possession! A vintage lace gown that hangs visibly in my studio that is tea dyed and soooo romantic.I have not yet had the occasion to wear but it makes one daydream!

SMP: The most exciting moment in Gemolina’s history thusfar?
LK: It's exiting every time someone comes to the store or the studio. To this day I love watching them twirl around and feel like a kid in a candy store!
