Wedding Inspiration Shoot from Tricia Fountaine + Caroline Tran + Winners!

If I could transport myself to anywhere in the world, it would probably be right here. Tucked away in this fairytale forest shoot with free flowing pretty for as far as the eye can see. It’s a total dream brought to life by Tricia Fountaine Design, and captured so beautifully by miss Caroline Tran. Let’s kick-start your weekend with a visit to the gallery, and as icing on the cake we’ve got winners down below. Happy weekend to you and yours! xoxo

From Caroline Tran… This was a styled shoot produced by Tricia Fountaine to inspire couples to let their personalities shine. A live eagle owl & civet joined us (from a local animal conversation) to represent the man & woman’s inner strength, respectively. They enter this relationship as strong individuals, but also with an open heart for each other, represented by their open heart alter. The reception was held under a gorgeous oak tree and the dessert table was suspended from another oak tree.

From Ashlee Taylor… This styled shoot was a project born from the love of everything pretty, luxe and creative! We wanted to show our lovely British brides how weddings in our country can be full of the same creative style that you see in the weddings of our American friends. So we teamed together with a select few of artisan suppliers to create this shoot. I shot in fine art editorial style. We used three different looks from the hottest designers and two real couples as models.

Rustic Chic Wedding at The Solage Calistoga from onelove photography

onelove photography has the most beautiful way of capturing not only those heart palpitating, feel the love right through the lens moments of a wedding, but the crazy gorgeous details as well. This Solage Calistoga affair is the epitome of that combo with black and white images we literally want to print out and hang on our office walls right next to a soft, romantic reception crafted by LVL Weddings & Events  and Fleurs de France. It’s just the kind of wedding we love to get cozy with. Do so for yourself right here in the full gallery as well as in the film below captured by A Bryan Photo.

From the Bride… I adored the linen that we finally picked. I had something very specific in mind, but when I saw the fabric that I had originally loved it fell flat against the rest of our design scheme. The French tapestry like design and place settings were my favorite part about our decor and I couldn’t have done it without the help of our wonderful vendors.

Fall Harvest Party from Judy Pak Photography

It’s official. Judy Pak wins wife of the year. This fall harvest surprise party she threw for her husband? It’s one of the loveliest things I’ve seen in a while. Designed by Michelle Edgemont, it’s filled to the brim with the prettiest details from an elegant paper suite to a granite hot chocolate bar, and there isn’t a single detail that has been left unthought of. See if you can spot them all in the overflowing gallery.

From Judy Pak… My husband loves all things fall so for his 40th birthday, I wanted to surprise him with a fall harvest themed party on our terrace. My vision was to highlight the bounty of fall through both the food and decor for him to enjoy in the company of his closest friends and family in the comfort of our own home.

For florals, the uber talented Michelle Edgemont created gorgeous arrangements with loose fall greens, burgundy flowers with a lot of texture in wooden vases. On the table, she chose a pretty khaki table linen with olive napkins. Amber glass plates sat upon gold chargers and down the center of the table, she created a runner made of swatches of plaid flannel, miniature pumpkins in orange, gray and gold foil, floral arrangements and votive candles. She also brought in a variety of staging props such as large pumpkins in orange and gray, plaid blankets for guests to use, tons of candles, apples, pears, pomegranates and sprigs of fall leaves and acorns.

For the invitations, the incredibly artistic Laura from Make Merry used a flowing script, gold foil and earthy paper to highlight the fall theme. The beautiful stationary really helped bring the table settings to life.

Radish created the most flavorful menu for our guests to feast on. For cocktail hour, guests savored hors d’oeuvres inspired by autumn while enjoying the setting sun that lit up the New York City skyline. The signature cocktail was “The Charleston Bog,” which highlighted bourbon and whiskey. Dinner was a hearty family style meal underneath strings of globe lights and surrounding twinkling candles.

For dessert, the amazing Ninecakes created a delectable vanilla cake with crystallized ginger layered with pomegranate buttercream. To incorporate the fall theme, the cake was adorned with little metallic acorns.

Guests were also treated to a hot chocolate bar that featured chocolate that was grounded on granite surfaces resulting in a rustic deeply flavorful hot chocolate. They were able to take it plain or add shots of flavorful house made syrups and giant marshmallows. We also added a s’mores station for a fun and unexpected treat. The sweet s’mores box featured the traditional fluffy homemade marshmallows, homemade graham crackers and Brooklyn made Mast Brothers chocolate.

Everyone did such a wonderful job in really transforming our space into an amazing fall harvest party that all the guests enjoyed and my husband will never forget.

From the photographer… Taylor and Lee were married on the first day with a true Fall feel in Charleston. We had a crisp cool air that added to the coziness of the night lit by a fire in front of a marquee sign spelling out Love. It was perfect for the midwesterners from Ohio to be welcomed to the South. Taylor’s dress was amazing on her and rightly so since it was picked out by the designer himself at a trunk show! One of my favorite elements were the doors constructed just for them – used as a grand entrance for the bride on her way down the aisle and an excellent backdrop for photos later.

Love in Paris Photo Shoot from Carla Ten Eyck + A Giveaway!

Two words can sum this beauty up in a nutshell: Paris and Fashion. It really needs no more of an introduction except to gush about the amazing vendors involved in this dreamy destination shoot. With Carla Ten Eyck behind the lens, design details by Jubilee Events and fashion styling by White Dress by the Shore, it’s the perfect pairing of romance and gorgeous, gorgeous fashion. But the best part, this little shoot is baring gifts of the giveaway kind. Scroll below for all the juicy details and catch even more Parisian imagery right here in the full gallery.

It was such an absolute dream to do a fashion shoot in Paris! As it is coined both the “city of light” and the “city of love”, we tried to capture both elements through our shoot. Our vision was to show a love story unfolding through the historic sites and streets of Paris. We were inspired by the Parisian architecture, subtle and soft colorings of the buildings, the red metro station signs, and the renowned La Maison Rose, a cafe in Montmartre. We specially loved the idea of color on color– and chose to do a lot of “pink against pink” and “red against red” for monochromatic feel.

We posed our couple at one of the romantic locations along the Siene river, Le Ponte Neuf, and had them snuggle amongst the ‘locks of love’. To show the more romantic side of Paris, we selected a Hayley Paige ball gown in a soft blush tone with oversized flowers delicately surrounding the billowing skirt. The bride groom wore a grey 3 piece suit from Valentino Tailors. We shot the couple both in front of the Eiffel Tower and throughout the streets of Montmarte, an artist colony with sweeping views of the entire city. We finished the shoot with the couple nestled outside of a Paris café, seemingly in their after party attire. The groom had loosened his tie and the bride had changed into an crème cashmere shell from J.Crew with a custom designed tulle knee length ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ inspired skirt and sparkly rose gold Badgley Mischkas.

We brought in the talented watercolorist and paper artist Kristy Rice of Momental Designs to create a custom suite for our Parisian styled shoot. The soft pearlesque pink paper, hand lettering of the names, and hand painted floral accents in shades of pink and red were the perfect accompaniment to the fashion chosen by Beth.

As shooting in a foreign country always lends an element of surprise, we scoured Montmartre for props while shooting. We found delicate macarons in shades of pink, fluffy meringues in the flavor of vanilla (they seriously tasted like marshmallows!), and raspberry gelato freshly scooped into a cone. Since Montmarte is known for it’s street artists, we commissioned an artist in the square right outside of Sacre Coeur to cut Silhouettes of our couple– and believe it or not– his scissors sliced through the paper just one time and voila! We found flowers from a local florist and put together our own bouquet and nosegay filled with roses, wax flowers, and a sprinkling of whatever else we could find.

This Parisian photo shoot just so happens to be a snippet from the second book in The White Dress series, The White Dress: Destinations, co-authored by all of the talent above.  The first book, The White Dress In Color was just released and is currently available in bookstores and at Amazon.com. So to celebrate, Carla Ten Eyck , Jubilee Events  and White Dress by the Shore are giving one lucky reader a signed copy!

Pomegranate-Cranberry Sparkler

When it comes to holiday entertaining, I prefer low maintenance cocktail recipes. Who wants to shake up individual cocktails and baste the turkey every 30 minutes? Certainly not this lady! That’s why a pitcher of Pomegranate-Cranberry Sparklers will be holding court on my bar cart all season long. Keep a pitcher of chilled Pomegranate Cranberry Orange juice on hand in the fridge and top it with a splash of champagne or sparkling wine anytime guests come to call. How simple, and festive, was that? For more great recipes & entertaining ideas, head on over to my blog, Freutcake!

  • 1 cup water

Vintage French Country Wedding from La Fete Weddings + Stephanie Hogue Photography

Every so often I come across a wedding on SMP that I sooo wish I pulled the invite for. This is one of them. With the absolutely lovely french country design by La Fete Weddings and the picture perfect al fresco setting, it’s basically my dream come true. I can imagine myself sitting at those gorgeous tables forever, and will be doing so all day right here in this oh-so-gorgeous gallery.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/78033992 600 338]

From La Fete WeddingsWe absolutely love it when our clients have a vision of what they picture their wedding to look like. Especially when we can far exceed their expectations for their perfect wedding day. Meghan fell in love with Villa Sevillano and from the moment she first toured, she knew that was the place for her picturesque nuptials. She also knew she loved burlap! Meghan was very involved in designing the details and DIY items, but also completely trusted us with our design concepts which makes our job so fun.

The night before the big day, we hosted a rehearsal dinner at Villa Sevillano on the terrace overlooking the polo field. Surrounded by about 90 of their closest friends and family members the guests dined on traditional Spanish/Mexican fare to welcome the guests to Santa Barbara.

The morning of the wedding the bride and bridesmaids were pampered with full hair and make up in the grand master bathroom while the groomsmen relaxed by the pool and played poker. Since we held the wedding in the middle of July, it was a warm afternoon and so we put the most adorable ring bearer in charge of passing out small fans to keep the guests cool. The ceremony was absolutely ethereal. The sunlight created a perfect cast of light right on the bride and groom as if they were glowing as they read their vows. One of the brides family member played a baby grand piano during the processional adding a personal and unique touch.

During cocktail hour the guests enjoying passed refreshments, champagne, and hors d’oeuvres around the patio of the Villa near the pool. When it was time to invite the guests into the reception they found their escort cards displayed in vintage suitcases overflowing with babies breath. The band began to play as the guests found their seats and we welcomed in the lovely bride and groom as they entered the party and made their way to the dance floor to begin their first dance. Duo served an incredible California inspired caprese salad to begin, followed by a choice of new york strip or roasted sea bass for the main entree. We created individual lounge cabana’s on either side of the dance floor for guests to watch from the lounges. We also had a cigar lounge and fire pit placed on the opposite end of the garden for the gentlemen. Meghan provided lovely theme colored pashminas which were passed around to the ladies. They danced under the stars and the day ended with an casual after party in the bar area of the Villa.

The Verandahs, Terrara House Estate Wedding from Blumenthal Photography

I probably don’t even need to tell you just how amazing this wedding is, because, honestly, one look at these gorgeous images captured by Blumenthal Photography and you’ll know instantly.  But that’s not going to stop me.  Because this is a wedding that sooo deserves an intro.  One that talks for endless minutes about the beautiful blooms from Terrara House Estate, that gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown and one moment after another with two of the sweetest cuties you’ll ever lay your eyes upon.  Click here for more.

This is a day that most girls dream about from a young age, and I was no exception. Originally from Sydney, Australia, but living in San Francisco, it was vital that we chose a venue that would help us plan and create the day of our dreams, the dreams I had since I can remember. The Verandah’s, Terrara House Estate was that venue. A stunning historic country wedding venue of timeless elegance.

I must make special mention of Rosie, the property owner and florist. Never have I seen more stunning flowers as I saw on my wedding day. My chosen colour was Aubergine. My four bridemaids wore aubergine, long, one shoulder dresses by Dessy, while my flower girl wore an ivory dress by Dessy, which we added an aubergine bow at the back to tie into my lace Oscar de la Renta gown. I envisioned my Bridesmaids holding white peonies, and I, in my ivory gown, carrying a bouquet full of aubergine flowers. So I searched high and low for a flower that fit the requirements. Finally I came across the Black Baccara. I excitedly phoned Rosie and told her my findings. She had heard of them, but had never seen them. She kindly told me it may not be possible and to come up with a second option. I decided I too would carry a bouquet of white peonies.

The day of the wedding was surprisingly calm. Benjamin and I had been together for almost nine years and I always knew we would be married eventually. My mum organised a champagne high tea, while we all got ready in the stunning salon at Terrara House Estate, while the boys were next door in the converted stables. After hair and make up was finished, we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the time before the ceremony. This is when Rosie surprised me with the most amazing bouquet of Black Baccaras, and to top it off, she had made an urn for the registry table with matching flowers. They were stunning.

As I mentioned Ben and I live abroad and adore our families. Besides making speeches, we wanted to include them in the ceremony, so we decided to have my sister and Ben’s brother marry us. We had them practicing and writing the ceremony months in advance, but managed to keep it a secret. No one knew and it was an added surprise to both our families.

Walking down the aisle was one of my favourite parts of the day. Seeing the faces of all those that I love and care about in one place together. My mum and dad both walked me down the aisle as I am exceptionally close to my mum and of course wanted my dad to also give me away. As we got close to my husband to be and the four groomsmen, Ben broke down and began to cry. I remember calling out to him ‘I love you Ben.’

The reception was divine. The food was amazing. As the band played we had canapes and cocktails after the ceremony, where guests could mingle and play croquet and giant chess. After an hour of this, guests were moved into the main marque, where a three course meal with wine, champagne, beer and spirits was served. What was so unique about the meal was it was served on platters in the middle of each table, so guests could chose what they wanted and eat as much as they liked, because, once a platter was nearing empty, a waiter would come out and replace it. So no one went hungry. If you liked steak, you could have two pieces, same with the chicken and fish. In case there were still some hungry guests. At 10pm supper was served. A platter arrived, with a leg of ham, fresh bread rolls and salads galore, accompanied with a cheese platter. Cognac was also served for those brave guests.

Our band, The Escalators played all our favourite songs as guests danced until there shoes came off. They had a bag full of funny hats and masks, which were offered around to guests to put on and pose for photographs. Its amazing the change in people when they put on a hat.

Towards the end of the night I was still left with one more surprise. Without me knowing, Ben had been rehearsing for the past month or so, 500 Miles, by The Proclaimers. Just so you are aware, Ben is not a singer. A friend grabs me and tells me to get to the front of the dance floor. I had no idea what was going on and before I knew it, Ben was at the microphone, with the band and a giant mitre (Pope hat) on his head, singing 500 Miles. The entire wedding was up on their feet, chanting and singing, and eventually putting Ben and I up on shoulders as we danced the night away. It was the perfect way to end a day I had dreamt about since I was a little girl.

To top it off we had Dan Blumenthal of Blumenthal Photography and Soda Films by his side to, capture our day… every moment, every smile, every tear, every laugh.

Elegant Chicago Wedding from Jenelle Kappe Photography

I’m tucking this fabulously elegant Chicago wedding safely at the top my list of weddings that prove classic soirees will never fail to impress. It’s all made even more impressive when you find out that the gorgeous Bride planned it all herself. Amazing, right? With images from Jenelle Kappe that define picture perfect and not one detail left unnoticed, this gallery is one gorgeous place to be today.

From the Bride...Our wedding was nothing short of gorgeous! I am proud to say that I (the bride) planned 100% of our wedding without a wedding planner and without any details lost. From buying our own table linen and chair sashes to doing some DIY projects….I did it all. Our wedding was everything we wanted plus more. I had visions of what I wanted but never expected our wedding to turn out the way it did. From our traditional catholic church ceremony and release of doves, to our 1958 white Rolls Royce, my bridesmaids blushing pink dress, and our pictures in front of an outdoor movie theatre where they wrote on the marquee “Mr. And Mrs. Woods”. The feel of our wedding was nothing but true elegance with a little bit of old Hollywood.

Chateau Laurier Wedding from Joel Bedford Weddings

This wedding right here?  It’s the sort of wedding you obsess over.  A wedding that is sooo full of gorgeous details and heart skip a beat moments, you can’t seem to get enough.  I guess that’s what happens when a beautiful bride and groom join forces with a talented team of vendors (think Joel BedfordMillennium Blossoms and WOW Events)…. pure, unadulterated magic.  Click here for more.

Cindy and I often found ourselves in the same circle of friends when I moved to Ottawa in 2009. We would attend the same church, events, dinners, concerts and parties. From there Cindy and I developed from acquaintances to good friends in a matter of a couple years. We quickly realised that we had a lot more in common than originally thought. And after years of being friends, we naturally developed into being the happy couple we are today.

After a short seven months of dating, I knew that Cindy would be the woman I wanted to marry. I also knew that if I waited any longer I would run the risk of somehow ruining what I knew to be the best thing that will ever happen to me.

So on a mild September night, I convinced Cindy that she needed to attend a work function with me that was to be held at the National Art Gallery that evening. All was in place. When she arrived she was surprised by a security guard awaiting her at the front doors of the gallery prepared to escort her inside. She quickly realized that, along with the escort, she was the only person in the gallery. As her coat was taken, she was walked to the water bridge room of the gallery where she was surprised with champagne, flowers, an uncountable amount of candles, along with a nervous groom-to-be.

After a fumbled speech, a yes, and a couple of tears, we were quickly swept outside for pictures by a well-placed photographer. Minutes later, and after little convincing, I was able to talk Cindy into going for wine at our favourite restaurant, “Play.”

As we had arrived, Cindy, as well as all of our closest friends and family, were shocked to be a part of such a special occasion as they were all under the assumption they were simply attending a well-orchestrated “overdue night-out-on-the-town-dinner.”

We spent the remainder of the night laughing, drinking and celebrating.

The most memorable moment of our wedding was simply the party afterwards. There was a special energy in the hall that night that could be not be replicated while we were celebrating with family from all over the world and close friends. Cindy and I danced with a certain sense of heightened happiness, excitement, and relief that you just can’t plan for.

Our favourite wedding detail was the getaway car ride after the ceremony in the white mini-cooper. The car was decorated by Cindy’s sister with a “Just Married” sign and clanging strings of cans behind. The car ride on the gorgeous Ottawa River Parkway, as husband and wife, from the church to Major’s Hill Park was a fabulous private moment. It was so exciting when people, waved, honked, and yelled well-wishes and congratulations as we drove by. As for myself, I would have to say the music and the party. DJ Nick was phenomenal; he kept the party going all night long.

Our photographers Joel Bedford and his fiancé Justyna were awesome. When choosing a photographer we were not only concerned with the product but the people behind the camera. We figured they would be the people we would be forced to stare at all day and the last thing we wanted was to deal with someone unpleasant. But Justyna and Joel were wonderful. By the end of the night Cindy and I saw them more as guests then we did vendors. We would highly recommend them to anyone in need of amazing shots from amazing people.

If you are looking for the most fun, professional and talented videographers then look no further than RENO Video in Ottawa. Sylvain and Caroline made us feel comfortable and relaxed, which is hard to do with a camera in your face all day. They were fun and excited about our wedding from the moment we met them until the last moments of the night. They made sure to catch every great moment as it happened while blending in the crowd so naturally. We couldn’t be happier with our choice.

From Cory Ryan PhotographyLeia and Michael’s swoon-worthy wedding took place in Horseshoe Bay, TX at the lovely ESCONDIDO GOLF & LAKE CLUB. Thanks to the team at LIV BY DESIGNS, who took care of all the special details and brought together a gorgeous day that the families will always remember. As Leia & her father walked down the grand staircase of the Great House, Michael wiped away a single tear and smiled the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. After their ceremony overlooking the green, everyone moved over to La Hacienda to celebrate. A photo booth by SAY CHEESE, an awesome band from Dallas called NEW GROUND, and a custom cigar rolling station from BOBALU CIGAR CO. were just a few of the special touches for the guests. In addition to the gorgeous cake (with gluten-free layer for the bride!) from SIMON LEE BAKERY, this southern girl could’t help but appreciate the jars of banana pudding as well! YUM! And the final exclamation point to the reception was when Michael hopped on stage with the band and belted out his own song – eventually grabbing Leia onto the stage for some fun! As the couples getaway car departed, the couple was surprised with an awesome fireworks display along the sides of the road. Wow, talk about an exit!!!

Lawrenceville Wedding from Caroline Fontenot Photographer

This wedding is perfection.  A sort of rustic meets romantic meets industrial perfection that takes your breath away the very moment you lay your eyes on the stunning images from Caroline Fontenot Photographer.  It’s the kind of awesomeness that can only be found in a day that is chock-full of DIY details (hello beautiful blooms) and a custom gown that is all kinds of amazing.  See so much more right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… My dress was truly a work of art. Handmade by Cheryl Taylor. Working with Cheryl to make this dress was one of the most fun and creative experiences I’ve ever been apart of. The most special part was that the lining of the my dress was from my mom’s wedding dress from when she married my step dad. My mom wore a simple Caroline Kennedy style satin dress and it was the exact amount needed for the bias cut satin lining of mine… And then the inner lining of my wedding dress was from a white dress I wore as a child in a cherished photo taken with my Dad. My Dad passed away when I was thirteen and the photo of him and I was taken right before he got sick. Cheryl used the sash from my childhood dress as the anchor for the low cut back of the wedding dress, and the skirt of the childhood dress for my petticoat. The rest of the wedding dress was vintage chantilly lace sourced from Europe with hand beaded chantilly lace flowers appliqued all over the bodice and sleeves.  The full length antique tambour lace veil from Belgium complemented the lace on the gown.

I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses, since I knew two of the girls would be really pregnant, and I had a lot of different heights. I said cream, nude or ivory – and any material. They were from a variety of places: J.Crew, Anthro, Macy’s, Ruche, Francesca’s.

We aren’t huge fans of cake, and we had King of Pops at a friend’s wedding and loved it, so we decided to do the same! They were by far the most easy vendor to work with! And they let us hand pick from a huge variety of flavors!

My moms sweet friends did ALL of the flowers, boutonnieres and centerpieces. They bought them wholesale in Atlanta the day before and put them together. I had no idea what they would look like except for the photos I had shown them of what I liked. They did a great job, because everything was so beautiful!

We had guests sign postcards we collected over the years, from places we lived or visited before and after we were together. We asked guests to sign one from a place that was special to them or just write a note. Then they hung them on a big antique window pane. We had so much fun after the honeymoon reading what everyone wrote- some were funny and unsigned!

A note and a packet of flower seeds was on each plate. The note had a link to a playlist Bryan put together and it said the music was from him and seeds from me, a bit of each of our respective past time.

Maine Wedding at The Barn at Flanagan Farm from A Brit and A Blonde

You may want to sit down for this one, lovelies. Because not only do we get to bask in the beauty of this Maine wedding brought to life by Maine Seasons Events and captured by A Brit & A Blonde, but we also get to enjoy every last amazing minute of their fabulously-Maine rehearsal dinner. It was a weekend full of love and pretty details, and we get to reap the rewards right here in the full gallery of images.

Gorgeous, no? Well, here is even more pretty from their rehearsal dinner that just screams Maine…

From A Brit and A Blonde …Jane and Dana were living in London and then Singapore while they planned their big day. Since Jane is originally from Maine – she had her heart set on saying I do back home. They chose the Barn at Flanagan Farm for the rustic, beautiful field setting and the barn (of course!). The vision right from the start was to have dinner in the barn and the ceremony in the woodland area. The stunning forest spot with the tall trees surrounding made for a magical place for the ceremony.

The absolutely incredible design and planning work by Maine Seasons Events was picture perfect. The colors of peach and pale blue became the palette, accented with metallic gold, in the chairs, the flatware, the glassware. Wanting something fun and graphic for the table runners, but also something soft and feminine, table runners were custom made- half in a pale blue chevron pattern and the other half in a soft peach lace. What fun to have a glamorous and twinkling dinner party against the rustic, wooden backdrop of the barn, complete with string lights running across the barn ceiling behind muslin draped fabric by the Event Light Pros.

The floral design by Flora Fauna included a soft and sophisticated mix of roses, dahlia, astilbe, ranunculus, dusty miller, stock, delphinium and thistle, in assorted clear glass bottles and jars, and gold glitter dipped mason jars (we ADORE these!).

There was a champagne bar during cocktail hour with ingredients to make your own champagne cocktail, mini French fries in paper cones, a Cabin Cove oyster truck serving fresh oysters and a 5 course dinner served in the barn including charcuterie plates by Destination Catering. A huge cookie bar at the end of the evening, all made by the bride’s mom and her family sent guests off with a sweet treat. The 155 person group danced into the wee hours to the exuberant music of Retrospecticus and moved out to a bonfire and set off luminary lanterns into the Maine summer night sky.

Charlottesville, Virginia Wedding from Aaron Watson Photography

If you’ve ever wondered how adorable a baby in a kilt would be, you’re about to get your answer, and I’ll give you a hint… it doesn’t even fall on a normal cuteness scale. Way too adorable. The kiltwearer himself attended a wedding captured by Aaron Watson Photography, and we’re kind of (okay, totally) blown away by how beautiful the soiree, complete with dining under the Virginia stars, is.

From the photographer… When coming up with a vision of her wedding, it was simple for Rebecca to narrow down what she wanted—good music, delicious food and beautiful June weather. Her prayers were answered when her wedding day was welcomed with sunshine, lush green grass and vibrant-colored summer flowers. She coined her wedding as a “vintage garden party,” with white flowers everywhere.

Rebecca and Ian chose to hold their wedding at the Keswick Hall in Charlottesville, Virginia which completed their vintage garden theme. The historic home is stunning on its own, but with a backdrop of its picturesque rolling hills and Blue Ridge Mountains, makes it a breathtaking ceremony and reception space.

These newlyweds were sure to add plenty of personal touches throughout their wedding. One aspect in particular they put a lot of thought into was their music. They spent a great amount of time looking for and selecting their music for the night. As a result, everyone enjoyed a long night of dancing the night away. There were also many DIY touches such as personalized menus and programs. They even gave guests their own welcome bags made out of rustic brown paper bags filled with their favorite childhood treats ranging from Ohio-style buckeye candies, to Canadian rooted maple candies.

The couple happens to share the same favorite wedding memory, which is having a brief “first look” before the ceremony started. Although some consider this breaking tradition, Rebecca and Ian valued their quick peaceful moment together before embarking on their marriage.

Lake Forest, Illinois Wedding from Laura Ivanova Photography

I’ve said it a million times before, but this wedding really makes me wish I could be a bride. To get married all over again to the one I love with a wedding that looks Exactly. Like. This. Elegant yet understated, refined yet fun. It’s a day that dreams are made of and Laura Ivanova captured every bit. Grab that second round of coffee and join us in the gallery. We’ll be there a while.

From the Bride… Adam and I met, fell in love, and got engaged in Illinois but moved around to various cities thereafter to support each other’s life endeavors. I was finishing up graduate school in Connecticut last year while he was working in New York, and we felt it was time to start planning our wedding before hitting the five-year engagement mark! I’ve never been much of a planner, and had to do most of it from afar, after we settled in Savannah, Georgia. Despite the southern charm of Savannah, we wanted to get married in Chicago because our families and many close friends reside there. Everything fell into place after we found our venue, the Armour House in Lake Forest, Illinois. I always envisioned a dreamy outdoor wedding and was blown away by the natural beauty and elegance of the Armour House.

The wedding day went by so fast; it really was surreal and a whirlwind. We wanted our celebration to have a sense of drama yet still reflect our laid back personalities. I chose a ball gown with ruffles for the ceremony and Adam looked dashing in his James Bond suit. The ceremony took place outside on the gorgeous lawn of the Armour House. My bridesmaids/best friends looked so beautiful and picturesque in their pastel pink chiffon dresses. I changed into a red dress before the reception because it’s Chinese tradition for the bride to wear red. I think it definitely added to the drama when Adam and I were announced and almost fell down the grand staircase to the James Bond theme song. After dinner, we shared our first dance to the song, Home by Edwarde Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes. This was a very special moment to me because we actually put a lot of time and effort into ballroom dancing lessons, which was a bonding experience in itself. The lyrics “home is wherever I’m with you” really captured our journey through many places together.

There were so many important people and personal details that made our wedding unique and possible, including support from our parents and relatives from China and Poland, our friend Dave officiating the ceremony, our friend Tom playing the guitar during the ceremony, our friends Dan and Yvonne Heil videotaping the entire day, the wedding party helping out, and all our friends from different parts of the country sharing in our celebration. I was thrilled about the breathtaking roses, hydrangeas, and berries created by Eileen from Lakeforest flowers, and the phenomenal wedding photos from Laura Ivanova. Finally, I’m proud of the mini Adam and Sarah cake topper that I made out of clay, which is currently on our fireplace mantle as a reminder of our special day.

Central Florida Bridal Session from Kt Crabb Photography

I swear to you, I have never been more obsessed with Kt Crabb Photography.  And considering that I spend most of my days literally stalking her work (it’s true), that’s saying something.  Because this gorgeous bridal session she captured?  This day of pure pretty?  It’s mesmerizing.  You know, in that oh-my-goodness, stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous, completely, completely jaw-dropping kind of way.  In other words, it’s perfection… and you can see soooo much more in the full gallery.

From Kt Crabb PhotographyI’ve heard several times where brides look at their dresses from a few years ago and think, “its so out of style now, I could never take portraits in it at this point.” I wanted to kindly prove them wrong. Their dresses are stunning and beautiful today, just as it was the day they walked down the aisle. Kim was one of those sweet gals, one that wasn’t sure it was worth taking any more portraits in her dress. She stepped in and a smile immediately sprung on her face. That same feeling she felt on her wedding day had crept back in and reminded her why that was the dress. This shoot was simply tto inspire that feeling to return.
