Milwaukee Wedding by Valo Photography

This Milwaukee wedding is such a dream.  The incredible images by Valo Photography make me feel all warm and glow-y inside.  Maybe it’s all the elegantly organic details, the perfectly soft florals or the love-struck couple but I just want to get all cozy and spend the rest of the day with this vintage and nature-inspired beauty.  Luckily there is a whole gallery full of pretty so I can do just that!

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From Valo PhotographyAn elegant setting for a New York bride getting married in the Midwest. Erinn and Andy’s Milwaukee wedding took place at the Villa Terrace and The Woman’s Club of Wisconsin. Both venues transport you to a different time and place, inlaid with charming and historical details. The Villa takes you out of Milwaukee and places you somewhere in the middle of Italy, while the Woman’s Club simply transports you to a classic Milwaukee past.

To suit the fabulous setting, the bride wore a vintage-inspired dress by Jim Hjelm, while the bridesmaids looked amazing in a simple J.Crew dress. The guys, not to be shown up by the gals, rocked suits from Macy’s with a pop of pink in the form of ties and checkered socks. Everything was pulled together with the work of floral artist, Marius Bell Floral & Events. The floral work continued to the reception where table-unique centerpieces were hand crafted and coordinated throughout the room.

The wedding was filled with friends, family, and a lot of laughter… and once the party got started, the formal mask was let down just enough to let out a lot of personality. All captured by Valo Photography.

Hillsdale Wedding by Jessica Smith Photography

I want to take this wedding by Jessica Smith Photography and put it in my pocket so it never leaves my side. It is detail, shoe, seersucker, barn, stationery suite Perfection. Yes with a capital P. Don’t even get me started on the flower girls in moccasins because that is major. Majorly adorable and majorly melts my heart. This entire wedding has me in a straight up tizzy if you can’t tell, so I’ll be spending way too much time in the full gallery today crushing over ever detail. Really can you blame me?

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From the Bride…When Eric and I started looking for a venue to host our wedding, our biggest priorities were rustic and relaxed but still elegant.  So when we discovered the Enchanted Barn, in Hillsdale, WI, we were ecstatic and the rest of the details quickly fell into place.  The Enchanted Barn property is so architecturally unique and whimsical it inspired a number of personalized DIY projects and all of our many many helping hands and amazing vendors.

Since our wedding reception had 200 guests and 32 tables, personalizing the table seating cards and showcasing the dinner menu was quite the challenge. I found these amazing customizable rustic wine bottle labels, from an Etsy vendor, which allowed us to combine the table and menu cards.  The wine bottle labels were treated with grubby ink and dye treatment to give it a vintage, rustic look.

My favorite DIY wedding project from our wedding, was the “Favorite Recipe’s by Julia’s Favorite People” personalized cookbook paired with Anthropolgie kitchen apron bridesmaid gifts.  I wanted my gift to make my bridesmaids feel special, and know how thankful Eric and I were for sharing our wedding day with us.  The personalized cookbook included a favorite recipe from each bridesmaid, mother-of-the-bride, mother-of-the-groom, and wedding attendant.  Also, I included a short favorite cooking memory I have shared with each of them.  Liz Nault, a friend of mine and very talented graphic arts designer, added her creative graphic touch before we created and printed the cookbook through LuLu.com.

Middleton Wedding by Krakora Studios

The yellow lover in me is squeeling with delight right about now. And while we’re at it, the gorgeous wedding dress lover in me is squeeling too. You see, what we have here is a trifecta of wedding loveliness: gorgeous images by Krakora Studios, so pretty I could eat them florals by daffodil*parker and fabulous, fabulous wedding day attire filled with one gorgeous frock after another. That is a lot of great stuff happening in one tiny little post so be sure to stop by the gallery for the whole shebang!

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From the Bride…Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can just let your venue do the talking. Bishops Bay Country Club in Middleton, Wisconsin did just that for us. The old mansion, combined with the rolling greens and picturesque views of the State Capitol across Lake Mendota created the perfect backdrop for our wedding day. White, with accents of golden yellow and champagne, were present in every aspect of the day. I walked down a grassy aisle lined with copious amounts of yellow rose petals to Bobby waiting beside a vintage vanity, that we used as our alter. Handmade May baskets are a tradition in my family and that was our inspiration for creating the lovely, little, yellow cones wrapped with gold foil doilies – they held yellow rose petals for our guests to shower us with. We said our vows lakeside, beneath two majestic oak trees, surrounded by two hundred of our closest friends and family.

As a Graphic Designer, I created our wedding monogram, programs, menus and table numbers. Along with my mother and sisters we added our creative touches to most everything. I gifted my attendants with gold tag and pearl necklaces, stamped with their initial, the cuffs on the boy’s shirts were monogrammed with their initials as well. My “something blue” was a delicate bracelet with a blue stone, a gift from Bobby that he brought from Iraq. Our floral designer incorporated it into my exquisite bouquet of roses, ranunculus, hydrangeas, orchids, lisianthus and sweetpeas.

Our reception portrayed a warm, upscale, vintage-inspired theme. Draped in white, the tent was an ethereal setting for tables adorned with my mother’s antique silver serving pieces filled with orchids, lisianthus, ranunculus and roses. Hundreds of candles clustered about gave a warm presence to the evening. On the guest book table, we placed an antique Underwood typewriter, circa 1920’s, for our guests to type notes telling us what “love” meant to them. This table also held a large, ornate lamp which gave a warm, charming glow to the area. Displayed there as well were various vessels filled with fresh yellow d’anjou pears, our thank you favors for all of our wonderful guests. My favorite memory from our wedding day was discovering that unbeknownst to either of us, we had the same inscription engraved in the other’s wedding band: “You’re my favorite”.

Madison Wedding by Carly McCray Photography

It’s easy to see why Wednesdays are simply the best day of the week here at SMP and that’s because it’s the one day of the week where we get to host a pretty, pretty parade of seven drop-dead gorgeous weddings. We’re talking all sorts of pretty from DIY to traditional, all updated throughout the day to bring you the best inspiration a girl could ask for. And don’t forget to check out the full galleries of these beauties.

Kicking off the day is this sweet-as-can-be Madison wedding by Carly McCray Photography. This adorable couple opted for an intimate ceremony and reception and invited just forty of their closest friends and family members who then in turn helped create this pretty affair. Guests did everything from sewing napkins to baking cupcakes and they even had a DIY photo booth. See that and so much more here in the full gallery.

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From Carly McCray PhotographySylvie + Brian’s intimate wedding took place just outside of Madison, Wisconsin, at the A-MAZ-ING O’Brien Barn and Blue Mound State Park. It was so wonderful to be a part of this incredibly intimate event for two very sweet and kind people. Sylvie is a teacher and Brian a doctor, and their wedding consisted of about 40 close family and friends only. No wedding party…nearly every detail was handled or hosted by their guests, who were incredibly excited to do their part!! It was truly an event for all attending.

Their wedding kept striking you throughout the day with its extremely intimate nature and personal touches. The outdoor ceremony took place on one of the overlooks in Blue Mound State Park, where surrounded by family and friends, everyone contributed sentiments, laughs + hugs. (The ceremony ended with a giant hugging circle!) For the reception, the O’Brien Barn made things that much more personal and was just perfect. The farm is actually a working sixth-generation family farm and inadvertently became a ‘venue’ open to other couples after the family’s daughter renovated the barn for her own wedding a few years ago! Sylvie’s mom sewed all of their napkins on the tables, will be sewing the wedding quilt that guests contributed to at the wedding, and even made her own dress for the day. Their cupcakes were made by their good friend from scratch and modeled after some of their favorite cupcakes from different places they’ve lived in the US. All of the delicious food was via friends at the Underground Food Collective in Madison…and that DIY photobooth was complete with a doctor’s kit just for Brian.

I really could go on and on (and on). They wanted no gifts…just donations to guests’ favorite charities.

Menasha Wedding by Emily Steffen Photography

Do you fancy a little splash of yellow this afternoon? We thought you might which is why this Menasha wedding shot by Emily Steffen Photography is just what the doctor ordered. It is pretty much impossible not to don a big, fat smile after staring at all these lovely images. Yellow will do that to you and so will all those bright, fabulous florals by Branching Out and Co.. See it all, one charming billy ball at a time, here!

From Emily Steffen PhotographyJon and Kristine planned a wedding that was 100% them! Full of joy, laughter and touches that made everyone feel so warmly welcome, the party was amazing. The color palette was classy and charming and perfect for the event!

The ceremony was held at Kristine’s home church because she wanted to capture the charm and beauty of the church she grew up in. The wedding party was filled with friends and family members that were full of support and smiles for them during the ceremony.

North Shore Golf Club was a perfect setting for their classy reception. The decor was simple and cute; cut lemons, vases of yellow billy balls and an amazing cake made the reception room feel so warm and charming! Kristine pulled in more of the greys to the palette with handmade table runners for each table in various textures made perfectly by her Mom! The head table was positioned in the center of the room so the guests could get a view of the action all night long. A yellow infused candy bar was the hit of the late-night party and guests left for the night with a bag of Kristine and Jon’s favorite coffee from their favorite coffee shop!

Wisconsin Wedding by Anna Page Photography

If there was a super adorable bride award I would be sure to hand it over to this cute little blondie!  And, while we’re at it, let’s dole out the awesome craftiness award as well for all the amazing, rustic DIY details that she poured into her event.  I have to say, that when done right, the baby’s breath bouquet can look really good and this, my friends, is done oh-so right.  Massive bundles of sweet, little blossoms paired with chic bridesmaids’ dresses against a rustic setting.  Be still my country-lovin’ little heart!  Click here to see the full gallery!

From the Bride…Jeremy and I wanted our wedding to be unique, and very personal to us.  The ceremony was held in my parent’s backyard on the lake, with the groomsmen coming in on a pontoon.  For my ‘something old,’ I wore my great-grandmother’s wedding shoes that she wore back in 1903.  After the ceremony, our wedding party rode to the reception in a tractor-pulled wagon, to the rustic white barn that belonged to my maid-of-honor and her husband.  For the bouquet toss, we used the pumpkin catapult used during pumpkin season to catapult my bouquet.  The highlight for us was the first dance which took place at dusk on the balcony of the barn, while the guests all lit sparklers below, and when the song finished, fireworks went off!  The night ended with s’mores at the fire pits and a barn dance.  The day was absolutely perfect!

Madison Winter Wedding from Fleurishes

We know, we know. It’s the middle of summer, the sun is finally shining, the pool is finally warm. But for those of you planning a winter wedding, you’re entering crunch time. Time to make decisions, to start turning your inspiration boards into your big day. And, it doesn’t hurt that yours truly personally adores all things winter, white, and weddings. So therefore, we have a wonderful winter wedding in Wisconsin for you today. Photographed by Becca Dilley Photography, this February fête is all things snowy chic, and we just can’t get enough. From the pre-wedding rally, to the vintage-inspired gown, right down to the amazing florals from Fleurishes, everything about this cold weather affair is uniquely fab. See for yourself in the gallery!

David and I met in highschool and were good friends who drifted apart in college.  We reconnected through friends in Madison and realized we had chemistry and started long distance dating.

We chose the Memorial Union because its an institution at the University of Wisconsin – growing up in Madison as teenagers we had both spent many happy memories there, taking classes, going to dances, watching live music shows, and enjoying the terrace on the lake.

Candles were a focal point for us, and we wanted to embrace the stark, winter look with birch branches and the ice sculpture.  The dress was vintage inspired and evokes the silhouette of the dress Audrey Hepburnwore in Roman Holiday.   We loved the way the venue looked with the flowers, the trees, and candles and the pictures turned out beautifully.

The ice sculpture of Bart Simpson was a surprise for David, who loves the Simpsons so much he can quote lines from the show for almost any occasion.  The Latin Jazz Band was actually the band that several of my friends and I went to listen to nearly every week during college in Madison. And the prayer read during our ceremony spoke of the ‘unity of all in the sovreignty of God’.  It was absolutely perfect given the threats to unions and workers rights in Wisconsin.

The wedding party protest is absolutely the most memorable part of theday.  Many guests and all of the wedding party made signs and met uson the Wisconsin State Capital Square to stand with thousands of other people in the fight for workers rights.  It wasvery exciting – we had lots of fun and we were even interviewed on TV!

Elkhart Lake Wedding At The Osthoff Resort

Jessalyn and Craig fell in LOVE with the casual elegance of The Ostoff Resort at  Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Hoping to blend traditional elegance with country charm, they introduced details all throughout the day to make their wedding celebration uniquely their own! Shared with us by Leann at Honeybee & Peony Photography, we’re pretty sure you’ll label their wedding a complete and total success!

Invitations from Laura Hooper Calligraphy.

LOVE the seating chart!!

While on vacation, we fell upon a beautiful estate set on the shore of the crystal blue Elkhart Lake. Instantly, we new that this estate, located just down the road from a quintessential village, would make the perfect venue for us to celebrate the beginning of our new life together with family and friends at our side.

Our wedding vision was an amalgamation of vintage, country, and classic styles. We hoped this ambiance would provide for an atmosphere of beauty, comfort and fun. It was important to us to weave pieces of our families into every detail–from the groom’s “old fashioned bar” (a family favorite) served in Mason jars to the seating chart set inside windows (from the bride’s childhood home) … to using the bride’s signature breakfast treat as both a favor and an invite to Sunday brunch. We also wanted to highlight local favorites–steak, local micro-brews and, of course, cheese! In fact, we were able to hand pick our favorite Wisconsin cheeses at our favorite NYC cheese shop (Murray’s!).

Jessalyn & Craig’s favorite part of the day?
To begin our lives with the person of our dreams, with family and the closest of friends, was a dream come true. The music, champagne, “old-fashioneds,” a lakeside lobster bake rehearsal dinner and after-party at the tiki bar were mere icing on the cake.

Wisconsin Wedding by Heather Cook Elliott Photography

It’s easy to see why Heather of Heather Cook Elliott Photography was ready to trade her city condo for a country home after shooting this darling Wisconsin wedding. It could not be more charming! All the details were subtle yet substantial, and they had this country girl at heart all giddy from the minute I was able to take a peak at the drop-dead gorgeous images. It’s lakeside, it’s lovely and there is even more in the gallery.

click here for more of the lakeside affair!

From the lovely Heather Cook Elliot…Michele & Drew have followed their love across the country and back. When they first contacted me they were living in California and in many ways their wedding had a fresh California feel about it. Light suits, airy dresses, California jams and a reception on the edge of the water. They had dreams of marrying one another on Catalina island but ultimately, home and family and life deposited them close to Michele’s family home in Wisconsin’s lake country. So the water’s edge reception was on Lake Nagawicka and I helped them get some Wisconsin scenery into their photographs (who doesn’t love barns, anyway?) I met with Michele and her family-filled bridal party at that family home and experienced an immediate immersion into her life growing up. I came back to my city condo that night and said to my husband today’s wedding made me want to be part of a really big family, have 4 girls and move out to a lake!

Andrew prepared for the day at Delafield Hotel surrounded by a smaller but no less engaging family. When I met him there I could tell he was nervous, but once Michele walked down the aisle with her tearful father it was as if his nervous energy had been spirited away. For the rest of the day I could see him completely immersed in her presence, almost memorizing each moment together. The ceremony was flawless and emotional and held in a stone giant of a chapel that somehow manages to feel cozy and airy at the same time. After the ceremony we explored a local preserve and Michele and Andrew spent some time relaxing into the idea that they were now married.

The reception was held at classic Wisconsin supper club on the edge of the water. A tiny rain shower passed over the lake during dinner and left just as quickly as it had come. With the grass still wet Michele and Andrew took a quiet walk alone along the piers just before sunset; I imagine they talked about the sweet toasts and how lucky they are to have all these amazing people in their lives. Then, as the sun moved closer to the horizon the clouds gave way to one of the most brilliant sunsets I’ve ever seen. Tiki torches threw romantic beachy light onto guests taking their photographs in front of the sinking sun and the horns of the band grew in sound. Andrew is a good dancer and it was obvious good music was high on their priority list. The guests responded and a hilarious limbo caught everyone up in the fun. The night closed with a warming bonfire and the two of them dancing alone to an Al Green song. Just the two of them.

Wisconsin Wedding by Kate Botwinski Photography

Let’s be honest, as much as we would like our groom to be involved, more often than not he doesn’t give a hoot about the wedding design (huge props to all those grooms out there that do!).  So when I come across a wedding where each partner contributed things they loved into the decor my heart does a little happy jig.  This Wisconsin wedding by Kate Botwinski Photography is a his and hers guide to planning a wedding together.  For more from this wine-loving, plaid-loving duo check out the full gallery!

Click here for more inspiration in the full wedding gallery!

Ross and Lindsay were married on Labor Day weekend in a park just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.  Surrounded by willow trees and a lake, they chose a flirty color pallet of brown, coral and turquoise for their wedding day.  The theme of the reception was inspired by Lindsay’s family’s favorite past-time: bonding over a bottle of wine.  Saving up enough wine bottles for Ross and Lindsay’s centerpieces turned out to be a family affair as well.  In the bride’s words, “The girls in my family are all winos so I knew I wanted to have a wine-themed wedding.  My mom and sister designed the centerpieces and my family collaborated by saving up empty wine bottles.  Since my mom already collects unique wine labels, we were inspired to use the labels as table names.”  Continuing with the wine theme, Lindsay’s mom also created the card holder.  She picked up an empty wine barrel, painted it, added grape vines, and stenciled the couple’s last name.

Although the reception was initially themed with Lindsay’s ideas in mind, Ross thought up the popular guests favors: wedding can coozies.  Together, they designed the favors which read, “To have and to hold and to keep your beer cold” on one side, and their wedding date on the other.  As much as Lindsay loves wine, Ross obsesses over plaid.  His love for plaid was the inspiration for the wedding cake design.

Madison Wedding from Jonathan Hoffner Photography

There have been some fine soirees coming out of Madison, Wisconsin recently!  This next wedding from Jonathan Hoffner Photography is by no means an exception and is dazzling with its vintage details and French flair.  Colleen is a bride (and blogger) after my own heart taking total advantage of the fantastic finds on Etsy and crafting a perfectly adorable celebration.  Her smile is completely infectious too and totally brightens up these already beautiful photographs! My inspiration for our wedding was “French vintage,” using a soft color palette with vintage and romantic details.  Our reception was at our favorite French restaurant, so the theme fit perfectly.  The ceremony was also in our State’s Capitol, which provided for a gorgeous setting.  With two venues that were already so beautiful, I tried to add detail and personal touches while letting the decor speak for itself.

Overall, I was just amazed at how well the day went and we felt like we were truly able to enjoy every minute.  I am so thankful for the planning that I invested into the day, because it allowed our wedding to go so smoothly.  We felt truly blessed by all of the wonderful family and friends that were there to share in it.  I feel so blessed to have found love and our wedding was beyond my dreams!  Now for the best part – marriage!

I saved money (and had fun) doing DIY projects, like making buntings/garlands and designing all of our paper goods on Illustrator and printing them locally.   [The Venue] gave me inspiration and allowed me to simplify decor.  I absolutely loved working with all of our vendors because they shared my vision, were creative, and incredibly passionate about their professions. It was such a fun process of sharing ideas and collaborating.

So many brides had told me “don’t let the little things get to you on your wedding day”…and honestly I was as happy and relaxed as could be and it made everything so much better!

Milwaukee Wedding by m three studio

This next little gem from m three studio is wildly romantic.  Our inner girly girls are just squealing with glee over all that rosy goodness.  Feminine touches may abound throughout this glorious, French-inspired fete but these party-goers were not opposed to rolling up their sleeves for a good ol’ friendly lawn bowling competition!  There is even more sweet inspiration in the full gallery!

After Andy proposed in the night snow outside of Joan of Arc Chapel at Marquette University (where we were both students at the time), we really waffled on what our collective vision was for our wedding.  And since I was starting medical school in the fall, we wanted to get the planning underway and as close to finished as possible before then.  We have a strong attachment to Milwaukee, both being from the area and attending Marquette so we knew we wanted to get married in the city.  We also wanted to be able to have the ceremony and reception in the same place.  We settled on Lake Park Bistro, one of Milwaukee’s finest restaurants since we are both total foodies and the staircase was the most dramatic and beautiful location we could find for an outdoor ceremony.  The idea for a day wedding certainly was not mine (I’m more of a night-owl); however, Andy convinced me that having a day wedding with a lunch reception would leave time for us to spend time later in the evening with our friends who were coming into town for the event.

The most important thing for me after the location and the food was photography.  We wanted someone who would capture the day in story form without being unnatural and posed.  The flowers were also really important to me, as my mom has always been into gardening.  Carrie at Petals put up with all of my crazy visions and times I changed my mind and put together the most beautiful rosy creations!  Andy was more concerned with the cake and Karen from The Cake Lady did not disappoint with a lavender-flavored cake filled with vanilla buttercream, raspberry preserves, and lemon curd.  It was to die for!  And the lawn bowling – Andy saw the lawn bowling pitch and simply asked Lindsay, the catering director for Lake Park Bistro, on a whim if we could have lawn bowling instead of dancing.  When she said yes, he really ran with the idea and contacted the Milwaukee Lawn Bowls Club – they even offered to come out and teach our guests how to play!!  Let me tell you – it was pretty fantastic to see the people we love the most dressed up, in the midst of a rousing match of lawn bowling, all in celebration of the love that Andy and I share.

Our wedding day was everything we could have dreamed of and more.  We never could have predicted receiving a watermelon as part of the toast that the maid of honor, Megan, gave in reference to our first “date” – walking around downtown Milwaukee freshman year of college with a watermelon from the Milwaukee Public Market.  We never could have predicted the dog that greeted Laura during the wedding party photos with some adorable muddy pawprint accents for her dress.  We never could have predicted the minister announcing the wrong last name at the end of the ceremony and the hilarity that would ensue when Andy’s mom corrected him loudly from the front row.  And I think I will forever tease my dad for being the one to nearly fall down the stairs as he walked me down the aisle after he had made such a big deal about me being the clumsy one in the weeks leading up to the big day.  My point is, even with all of the planning and details we worked so hard on, the real things I will never forget are the unique moments that our friends and family brought to the day and the love that they shared with us.

Wisconsin Wedding by Anna Page

This is one of those weddings that will make you grin from ear to ear, head to toe. It’s a wedding that is off the charts in terms of styles and chic design, and yet it’s the really fun, totally laid back details that completely jump off the page and leave you wanting so much more. The bride and her adorable groom did much of the wedding on their own and really thought creatively about how to infuse their day with total personality. Photographed by Anna Page, this one is a definite keeper. Click here to see even more.

Finding the perfect Wisconsin wedding venue was a vital aspect of our wedding vision. Thankfully, we discovered the Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin- a spacious and historic barn surrounded by acres of beautiful farmland. The Woodwalk’s owners, Margaret and Allin Walker, had an artistic vision and desire to celebrate and update an historic structure and its surroundings that matched our own vision and beliefs perfectly. Plus, there was a huge disco ball hanging in the center of the barn’s rafters- so, we were sold.

As an artist, I began to view the wedding’s design like a really big art project. Only with a really small budget. We wanted the wedding to be whimsical, comfortable, simple, and modern with a bit of vintage sprinkled on top. Yellow and gray was the color scheme I decided upon right away. My penchant for circles and all things round made Billy Buttons an easy choice for flowers for bouquets, boutonnières, and centerpieces. Billy Buttons (craspedia) are a bold shade of yellow, perfectly round, and are fairly inexpensive. Plus, they dry nicely so you can keep decorating with them for years after the wedding. Next, I found white ceramic cow “piggy banks” on sale at Urban Outfitters and then finished the centerpieces with inexpensive Ikea vases.

Next, was the photographer – I am a photographer myself – so, finding a person with a unique perspective was extremely important to me. After many hours and many days searching the Internet for Wisconsin wedding photographers, I finally found my dream photographer, Anna Page. When she told me she was a “photo ninja,” I immediately fell in love. Even though we are often completely awkward in front of the camera – we were confident that Anna would manage a way to make us look good.

Early on we decided on a little theme to repeat throughout our invitations, thank you’s, etc., which was “Us + You = Fun.” To save money, I designed and printed our Save-the-Dates, but decided to splurge on custom press printed invitations. I was fortunate to find Jason Wedekind of Genghis Kern in my North Denver neighborhood. Letterpress is a fascinating time-honored art and working with Jason throughout the design process was one of my favorite aspects of the wedding planning process.

Our wedding party quickly grew to an abnormally large size, 39 in all — 7 ladies, 7 guys, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 6 nephews, 2 nieces, 2 readers, 5 dogs and 4 dog ushers! We wanted everyone we loved to be involved in some portion of the ceremony. Dressing everyone was super fun, but a lot of work! I like things to coordinate, but wanted to stay away from outfits being overly matchy. I prefer highly organized chaos when it comes to outfit coordination. I was fortunate that my dear friend Katie Newcome is blessed with a remarkable ability to sew. She hand-made the marvelous yellow polka-dot flower girl dresses with detachable tutus AND the matching mini dresses for the two little female pups. Instead of the flower girls actually throwing flowers, we decided to hand-make the flower girls extra long wands. They were looked adorable and were simply created by using a wooden dowel and lots of ribbon purchased from the local dollar store. The little boys wore plaid J. Crew blazers, shorts and shirts from Old-Navy, one-stars from Target w/yellow shoe laces, and yellow bow ties completed the look.

I trusted the fashion sense of all my wedding party ladies and wanted them to have some say in their outfits with the hope that they would be able to wear them again. I told the ladies they could wear any cocktail length dress in any shade of gray, plus any yellow pair of shoes of their choice. Along with the matching purses I gave them (made by Jenna-Lou Design on Etsy), I also hand-made fabric flowers for their hair. They all looked amazing!

I gave the guys 3 choices of modern cut black suits in 3 different price categories to choose from and then asked them to buy a white shirt with a spread collar. I bought them all different gray ties with varying patterns from the Saks and Neiman’s outlets. We also got them yellow socks and gray one-stars from Target. Oh, and our 3 male dogs looked rather dapper as well wearing matching tuxedos I found online and custom bow-ties we hand-made with ribbon.

Even though I’d spent more than a few nights thinking about the stunning but overly pricey dress I tried on earlier, in the end, I knew I made the right decision for my wedding dress. I saved over $2,500.00 and was extremely happy and comfortable with my simple strapless Jenny Yoo dress, along with a beaded headband, and hand-made shoe clips from my grandma’s old clip on earrings. Kyle wore a black J-Crew suit and we added a yellow tie to set him apart from the rest of his guys.

Of course, there was sooooooooo much more to do. All those little details can easily become a gigantic undertaking. In lieu of a guest book, we collected postcards from all over Door County, WI, and asked our guests to write messages and clip the postcards with clothespins on a string that hung in the barn entrance. We used a really cool old metal toy carousel I found at a garage sale (that just so happened to have yellow and gray as its main colors), instead of a typical box for a place for guest to put their gift cards to us. We decided to use the cool customized coasters our press printer Genghis Kern designed for us as guest cards as well. It was a nice way to continue the “Us + You = Fun” theme that started way back with the ‘Save-the-Dates.’ We placed a tall metal stand on each table, each with a framed photograph of one of the many dogs that have held a special place in our lives, instead of typical boring old table numbers. We collected (and heavily washed) vintage drink stirrers from antique stores to make the cocktails a little more interesting.

When the day of the wedding finally came, it was an absolutely perfect. It was fun, relaxing, and we didn’t even care about all the people looking at us. We were just happy to be together and share an amazing and once in a lifetime time day with all our best friends and family— that we had meticulously planned for the better part of a year.

Multi-Cultural Milwaukee Wedding From Golden Chic Events

We are thrilled to have Sara Dahmen, principle wedding planner at Golden Chic Events, share all of the details of Swathi and Adam’s magnificent wedding celebration …

Opulence and tradition, details and modernity – the love story of Swathi and Adam culminated in one full and glorious day. The sky was blue, the wind crisp, and the weather tinged with fall. Walking into the ceremony room overlooking Lake Michigan, the morning eastern sun cast the crystals on the mandap in a thousand rainbows, and lit the white fabrics with a glow that was truly ethereal.

We chose to decorate completely different from most Indian ceremonies – white replaced red, silver overtook gold. The girls were to be dressed in many shades of blue and turquoise, while the men wore embroidered white and creams. All the flowers were in white, and a customized aisle runner was rolled out, showing the couple’s monogram for the first time that day.

The groom arrived in full Indian garb, ready for his upanayanam, and he and his parents went through the time honored ritual with the guidance of the bride’s father and the priest. Guests began to arrive and mingled over coffee and croissants while the priest cantored and the musicians played their drums and horns.

During the festivities, the bride arrived with henna on her hands and bejeweled on every arm and finger. We quickly ushered her to be dressed in the ceremonial sari while the groom was brought out to ride in on a sequined horse, in the traditions of old. {We were just happy to have a horse at this point. Eight days before the wedding, our beautiful, white Maharaja horse died! It was a bit of a scramble. Where to find a horse who was comfortable completely covered in Indian blankets and feathers and being surrounded by people and lead by musicians playing unique instruments? In the end, we found a horse – but talk about a last minute emergency!}

As Swathi’s family greeted Adam and he dismounted, Swathi was spirited up to the ceremony site and hidden away until the groom could be reseated under the mandap, his vision hidden by a decorated cloth, so he could not see his bride quite yet.

With four strapping young men, we piled Swathi in all her beautiful splendor on a white doli, which was carried outside in a circle, with the perfectly blue lake as the backdrop, before coming in and being set down in front of the mandap.

From there, the ceremony continued for another nearly two hours – lots of fruits and rice and fire and confetti were tossed while continual blessings were chanted in Sanskrit. In the meantime, we were setting up the luncheon tent to be a reflection of the ceremony – a lot of ethereal white under a big white tent near the Lake, with bits of blue popping in with gossamer chair ties. Orchids and mum balls were piled in the centerpieces on on cocktail tables, which were later re-used at the reception.

Once Swathi and Adam were married, guests moved down to eat lunch, and the entire Golden Chic staff headed out to finish up the reception location design. This is where everything came together – the customized monogram was on every little thing, from the chocolate favors to the candies at cocktails and everything in between. Silver and pale pink were the main colors, with bits of black thrown in as a surprise.

Three different types of centerpieces were displayed on silver pintuck linens, offset by white china with silver rims and pink napkins. The lower centerpieces were huge luscious chunks of pale pink roses and orchids of multiple shades, while the medium height pieces were dark manzanita branches, decked out with orchids and surrounded by three smaller pieces of pave pink roses. Six foot tall centerpieces were the grandest – wrapped in custom silver cocoons, and hung with orchids, they were stunning and brought height into a room dwarfed by a huge ceiling. The sweetheart table was completely filled with a tall silver tree, hung with roses and crystals, while loads of candles surrounded them. Behind the table, the aisle runner was re-purposed as a banner, once again bearing the monogram of the day.

The elaborate dinner was discussed on each menu card, and loads of candles created a romantic glow. We placed pale pink lighting along the walls, highlighting the old architecture of the church-turned-reception venue. On the dance floor, the custom decal was hidden by a gigantic pink cake. Next to it, the groom’s cake boasted the old-school NU logo and was completely vegan – not an easy feat for any baker!

Guests arrived to the sound of a hand-played harpist for cocktails, where a signature cocktail called “The Griffin” was passed – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions – and guests came up to the escort tree. The tree was hung with escort cards on pink satin ribbons, and guests cut their names down to find their tables later. Each table was named after a restaurant in Chicago the couple enjoyed, and a photograph of the restaurant was at each table to help guide them to their seats.

Swathi and Adam arrived at their reception completely changed. The men now wore Western tuxes, while the women had changed into soft silver grey dresses. Swathi, however, was still completely covered in jewels in her custom designed hot pink lengha and accompanying pieces. No white dress for this bride!

Usually, Indian weddings are served by a caterer who does a buffet style dinner, but this time we served family style, which was completely unexpected and surprising for many of the guests. Later, a huge dessert buffet was brought out, completely with a chocolate fountain, mini cheesecakes, chocolate covered strawberries and fruits. Indian tea was served with strong coffee at the same time cake was offered to guests as well.

What was perhaps the most amazing was how immediately the dance floor filled up, and how constantly it stayed full. The guests were there to have a good time! If they weren’t dancing, they were in line for the photo booth, where loads of hilarious photographs were taken all night long. There were a lot of memories in that scrapbook by the end of the night.

Once the dancing ended and the house lights were up, the wedding party moved to Aloft hotel. It was definitely a wedding worth rehashing!  — Sara Dahmen, Golden Chic Events

Green Bay, Wisconsin Wedding by Erin Jean Photography

Nothing screams sweet summer love like a Volkswagen bus and a glowing couple. We happen to adore this combination in all of its laid-back glory. Shot by Erin Jean Photography, this wedding is equal parts DIY (even the groom got involved in the crafting!) and lovely Wisconsin woodsiness. And the best part that is sure to make all of the grooms out there insanely envious – it was held at the Hinterland Brewery in Green Bay. Now that is casual elegance at its best. You can find more from this easy, breezy day in the gallery so get clicking.

Elizabeth and Jake had the most amazing wedding. It took place at intimate, upscale restaurant in Green Bay, Wisconsin called Hinterland. They choose it because of the decor but mostly for the wonderful food. Elizabeth and Jake did almost all the decor themselves. They really had a breathtaking, do it yourself, wedding! Jake cut birch trees from the woods and drilled holes for flowers and candles into hundreds and hundreds of them. They also gathered vintage spoons from antique stores. Bended, drilled and beaded each one to serve as a recipe card holder (name card) at the wedding. The details were everywhere!!! A family friend did the flowers and Elizabeth collected vintage pieces for a while and had them displayed all over.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin Wedding by Anna Page

A rainy day in Milwaukee didn’t dampen the spirits of this pretty wedding. In fact, it might have added to the already gorgeous images from Anna Page. What is not to love about accessorizing with a pink umbrella? We are collectively enamored with these urban nuptials and have a feeling you might fall head over heels as well. Check out the gallery for the full wedding and more shots of that perfect pouffy veil.

Paul and I started dating eight years ago as seniors in high school.  The wedding party was made up of all of our siblings/family members and mutual high school friends.  Our officiant is the mother of one of the groomsmen and has been a dear friend to me and Paul for years.  She was able to create a ceremony that was sacred and moving and very genuine to the both of us.  We included a ring-warming ritual, where our wedding bands were passed around from guest to guest to hold and infuse with good energy and blessings. We held both the ceremony and reception at Cuvee, a champagne lounge in Milwaukee’s third ward.  The cream city brick and floor-to-ceiling windows were what drew me to this gorgeous loft space because it is beautiful alone as an empty room, but I was already envisioning all the ways we could transform it.

My sister-in-law Christine and her husband Karl are very talented musicians.  We asked them if they would consider playing a little something as Paul and I gave roses to our parents. Well, the little something they worked on turned out to be an acoustic rendition of Every Rose Has Its Thorn.  It may not have been the most appropriate song selection, but it was both beautiful and hilarious. I was reduced to a simultaneous laugh-cry thing, which looks quite ugly, but I couldn’t help it.  This may have been my favorite 90 seconds of the entire ceremony, it was THAT good.

By the time we gathered outside for pictures, it was raining steadily.  The pink umbrella belongs to our best man.  I was so grateful that he had the sense to bring one with us outside and I love the way turned out in the photos, that he is off the hook for owning a pink umbrella :)

I don’t really know what came over me when I was veil shopping.  Maybe it was because my dress was simple and understated, but I just decided that my veil needed to be big and pouffy.  So I put a custom order in at Eva’s Bridal Shop in Oak Creek, WI and specified to the salesgirl that I wanted no lace, no beading, just two layers with a blusher.  The result was pouf, which apparently they don’t see many requests for, but they made it happen.

All of the florals came from our local grocery store. But the decor was all done by my mom, Jane Collins.  At some point during the planning process I mentioned to her that I was “really digging bell jars lately…”  With that, she was scouring estate sales and antique shops to handpick every tray, cloche and old dusty book.  In the weeks leading up to the wedding, I saw this collection of vintage “this and that” grow in our house.  I was skeptical.  When I walked into the venue and saw the tables set up, it actually took my breath away.  Each tablescape was unique and yet together they created the feel of a lovely vintage English garden.  Myself and my guests were stunned.  Thanks, Mom!

I’m a University of Wisconsin alum, as were roughly 40 of our guests, so I arranged for a surprise appearance by members of UW’s marching band during the reception.  I told no one.  They just marched right in and it was a hit!  Our Crazybooth photographer, Simon McConico was able to snap the band in action.  It just wouldn’t be a wedding in Wisconsin without some Beer Barrel Polka.

Fun, Charming, Completely Whimsical Wedding

I am on a whimsical kick today…featuring affairs that don’t take themselves too seriously, that are filled to the brim with spirit, spunk and charm. So when Jeremy Lawson sent me this particular soiree early today, you know I scrambled to get it right up! It’s absolutely adorable and anyone who is looking to have a little fun with their wedding will seriously fall in love…

jeremy lawson

The wedding was held in the bride’s backyard at her parents house on Lake Geneva. Even Jeremy said that there were so many details, he felt like he was on a scavenger hunt. I love that! And to be honest, any bride that serves fries at their wedding is A-OK in my gook!

jeremy lawson

And I la la looooove that guests threw colorful confetti as the bride and groom made their way out. SUCH a cute little gesture of celebration. There are so many elements of this wedding that remind me of a birthday party and the confetti is one of the best. I love the pure and honest nature of the design, the spunky approach to wedding planning and the all out personality that just shines through every image. Jeremy did such a great job at capturing the day!
