DIY Buffalo Check Vanity Stool

Confession, the minute I saw this little DIY from Classy Clutter I planned a full on craft attack on all of my cheapo x-benches sitting in my house. They have no hope come the weekend. After Mallory’s super easy instructions, I do believe every single cushioned seat in our humble abode will be decked out in some fabulous fabric, and I’ll be the happiest lady around. See the super simple instructions below…

When I did my bedroom makeover, I had the hardest time finding the perfect chair, bench or stool for my new vanity (tutorial coming soon!). I decided against a chair with arms or a back because I wanted it to be stored completely under the vanity without obstructing the walkway.  Yeah, obstructing.

Organic Red Winter Wedding Inspiration

I expressed my love for red in 2015 and I’ve decided I’m carrying that hue adoration into the new year. This organic shoot from Justine Milton is just another slice of proof that red + weddings = awesomeness. From it’s appearance in the lush bouquet and the velvety ring box to the floral-lined envelopes and the pomegranate-adorned table, there’s more in THE VAULT. What’s your favorite red detail?

From Stacey FoleyNatural, organic and ethereal weddings are becoming more and more popular so we wanted to create a shoot to inspire brides and allow them to find true beauty in something simple. The creative process started for me when I was contacted by Kelsey McIntyre of Kathryn Bass Bridal letting me know that she would be in Calgary for one day and had a trunk full of beauties available if I was interested. I jumped on the opportunity. Justine Milton, of Milton Photography, was the absolute perfect fit to capture it all. Her style is timeless, elegant and incredibly gorgeous.

I wanted to allow the colors and textures of the season to play a big part in the design and inspiration of this shoot so I incorporated red pears and pomegranates into the tablescape and Fleurish created for us the most stunning bouquet and centerpiece incorporating falls favourite flowers and fruits. Simple and beautiful stationery, created by Pink Umbrella Designs, was added as the perfect finishing touch.

Weddings are meant to be an expression of self, an incorporation of season and a beautiful look into what inspires the soul. This shoot was created to allow brides the opportunity to see that simple inspiration and beauty can come together to make pure magic!

The Best Ever Shelfies

Elegant Four Seasons Resort Wedding

It isn’t often we hear sentiments from the groom, but today we’ve got just that and his write-up? SO. SWEET. For it was after 7 years of friendship that these two came together in holy matrimony saying their “I Do’s” in a chic colorful celebration. Surrounded by California sunshine and 70 of their nearest and dearest Michael + Anna Costa Photography captured every sweet moment to share in THE VAULT!

From The Groom…My then girlfriend and I were anxious about our summer trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, as we had a busy winter and spring and were looking to get away and unwind for a week somewhere warm where we could unplug and relax. Shortly after we arrived, I slipped away from the pool and Michelle to set up the proposal day with the hotel concierge at Secrets Vallarta Bay. I knew exactly what I wanted, and it was just about piecing it together.

On the big day, it started as typical as most vacation mornings. A wonderful breakfast while overlooking the beach, and some time by the pool to soak in some rays, relax, read and splash around in the water. After lunch, in the afternoon is where the plans kicked in. I had set up a couples massage at the on site spa, which was incredible. An hour long Swedish massage for both of us definitely set the tone. Afterwards, I recommended that Michelle get her nails done, as well as a facial, which gave me additional time for last minute plans and to get ready. After we showered, we walked downstairs and were greeted by the concierge, who whisked us upstairs to the top level of the hotel, escorting us into the Presidential Suite, which began a trail of rose petals on the floor, leading out to a balcony the size of our apartment, with a view of the bay and beach.

As we stepped out onto the balcony, the tiki torches were lit, and a single white linen cloth covered table was set up with a picturesque view, with champagne waiting to be popped. We had our own server, who greeted us, popped the champagne, and began to tell us about our dinner ahead – butternut squash soup, a fresh salad, a surf n’ turf dinner made of filet mignon and lobster tail, and desserts to follow. We took in the view, admiring the uniqueness of the moment and where we were.

As we ate, and the sun was quickly setting, I knew it was my moment to ask a question that would determine our fate together. I was confident but nervous. I mean, you never know, right? But, it was the time. As the sun was beginning to kiss the ocean from afar, I pulled the ring box out of my pocket, opened it up, dropped to one knee, and asked, “Michelle, I love you, will you marry me?”

“Oh my god! Put it on me! Yes, yes, yes!” she exclaimed! We were both thrilled. We kissed, hugged, and enjoyed the remainder of our dinner and dessert, smiling, laughing and glowing. It was certainly one for the ages. And, 11 months later, we made it official in Santa Barbara, CA.

Sunday morning snuck up on us. After 7 years of friendship, three as co-workers, and two years of dating, we were coming together in matrimony. It was our big day and we lucked out with pristine weather. Sunshine, high 70’s, blue skies, and no humidity. We were thrilled that so many friends and family had traveled from far away to beautiful Santa Barbara, CA for our celebration. Most had come from the east coast, where we both grew up, with one friend venturing all the way from Dubai. Yes, Dubai.

The ceremony and reception was all centered at The Biltmore – Four Seasons, an elegant, picturesque hotel nestled on the beach, with the mountains and wine country among its nearby footprint. We loved it because Southern California was home. We loved it because it encapsulated everything we loved about the west coast – the beach, the mountains, frequent sunshine, fresh local agriculture and wine country.

At 3pm sharp, all 70 of our guests were seated outside within the Mariposa Garden, facing the ocean, surrounded by incredible flowers and plants from all corners of the tropical Earth. The wedding party entered, consisting of Michelle’s sister, and my brother – Chelsea and Andrew. Then, I walked down the aisle with my parents (Andrew, Maureen), and then my beautiful bride walked down the aisle flanked by her parents (Michael/Sharon) to “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.

The ceremony was led by pastor Dr. Jon Ireland. He was warm, personal and touched on several important lessons for a successful marriage. Then, each of our fathers did a brief reading, and then we exchanged vows. Next we heard from Dr. Ireland, “You may now kiss the bride.”

The cocktail hour followed on the front El Mar Terrace, overlooking the great lawn and Butterfly Beach. Music was playing, cocktails were flowing, appetizers were being passed around and stories and smiles were being shared. Many were admiring the incredible view, and soaking in the location and picturesque, warm afternoon. Soon after, we moved inside to the El Mar room, which was beautifully decorated by Tenley Young, our floral and interior decorator. The room was set up with a large, family-style table, flanked by several round tables, covered with pristine white linens and other flowers and decorations to match.

After introductions and some dancing, dinner was served. The four course meal included: Butter Chardonnay Poached Lobster, Spiced Beef Short Rib, Butternut Squash Ginger Puree, Brocollini and a vanilla buttercream chiffon cake! Post dinner, we continued dancing into the evening, having a ton of fun, courtesy of DJ Sammy from City Connection Entertainment & Productions.

At 10pm, the reception wrapped up, and then we surprised our guests with a trolley (Santa Barbara Trolley), which offered a ride to all party-goers looking to continue the evening at an Irish pub in downtown Santa Barbara, called Dargans Irish Pub. The party continued well into the night and all had a night that they, or we, won’t soon forget.

Elegant Wedding at La Colombe d’Or Full of Old-World Glamour

For this art-loving couple, the best part of their wedding venue, La Colombe d’Or, wasn’t the stately wood paneling, extravagant chandeliers or the old-fashioned bar. It was the incredible art collection. And against this backdrop, the ivory and gold color scheme, lush flower arrangements and beautiful couple make this wedding a gorgeous work of art. See it all from Jenna McElroy in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…Andy and I wanted our wedding to have an elegant, old world feel, and we found that immediately at La Colombe d’Or. We loved the centuries old wood paneling and the dramatic chandeliers (ok….I loved the paneling and chandeliers, Andy liked the large, old fashioned bar). What really sold us, though, was the art! We love browsing galleries and museums, and La Colombe d’Or has the most incredible collection. Our décor, designed by Plants N Petals, centered around loose florals with lots of greenery for a romantic feel.

The most important thing to us (besides the ceremony, of course) was a fun and wild dance party. The Royal Dukes Band kept everyone on the dance floor all night long! We were so lucky that our amazing photographer Jenna got hundreds of candid shots to capture the shenanigans!

Classic Black Tie Countryside Wedding at Botleys Mansion

Just knowing that Rebecca and Stephen are childhood sweethearts makes us love their black tie wedding all the more. A day overflowing with sentiment, sweet moments, and some seriously chic details, Weddings By Nicola And Glen captured every single second to share. We’re deeming it the ultimate happy ending love story and it’s all waiting in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/144863463 600 338]

From Weddings By Nicola And GlenChildhood sweethearts Rebecca and Stephen’s wedding at Botleys Mansion over the summer was heartfelt to the core. There were so many touching moments right throughout the day that we were privileged to witness and capture. The morning started with our Bride and Groom getting ready at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel.

We’ll never forget when our Bride opened two gifts from Stephen while she was busy getting her hair and make-up done. The first, a stunning pair of earrings that she would wear for her wedding. The second, a hand made book of all their memories together as a couple and as a family. Stephen had arranged for their son Leo to deliver these gifts to her. Rebecca tried her best not to cry but it was only with plenty of encouragement from her mum and girlfriends that the tears of happiness were kept at bay.

Before our Bride stepped into her dress, she spent a few moments with her gorgeous little girl Ava. It was the sweetest thing when Rebecca encourage Ava to step into her Jimmy Choo heels! Rebecca and Ava were not the only ones to melt our hearts. Stephen and their son Leo spent their morning together too. With a tuxedos to match his dad’s, Leo look simply adorable by his father’s side.

Soon after our beautiful couple were wed in a tear filled ceremony at their family church in the heart of London. The rest of the celebrations continued with a fabulous black tie wedding reception in the English countryside. All the guests were transported on a double decker red London bus to the reception location. On arrival at Botleys Mansion they were greeted with vintage cocktails and ice creams and the sweet sounds of a live string band. The atmosphere was laid-back yet glamorous. As the day continued the sense excitement and emotion simply intensified. Our Groom and all their guests were surprised as incognito singing waiters burst into their musical performance before serving desserts. Then after their first dance Stephen surprised everyone with a fireworks display!

The whole day was filled with timeless style and elegant monochrome detailing. From white floral decor, platinum Bridesmaids dresses and ivory invitations every touch was classic and feminine. With such an unsurpassable combination of heart and style Rebecca and Stephen’s wedding day really had it all!

From The Bride…With Jake’s love for Loudoun County, Virginia, and my love for wine, we set out to find the most perfect vineyard for our wedding. After visiting countless vineyards with our moms, we stumbled across a new vineyard, Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, Virginia. We instantly knew this is where we wanted to be married. The endless rows of grape vines, rolling hills in the distance, and rustic but elegant reception space made for the perfect venue.

Over the next 9 months, all of the pieces began falling into place. My grandma bought me the most beautiful wedding dress and veil, my now mother-in-law designed the prettiest flower arrangements, and my dad made the most gorgeous barn door and wedding arch for our ceremony.

Groom’s card to the bride the morning of the wedding: “Danielle, Five and a half years ago you asked me to borrow my headphones, but little did I know you’d be taking my heart. Since the day I met you, I’ve been captivated by you beauty, energy, kind heartedness, and love you have for me and so many others. I love you more than you could ever know. You are the spitting image of my dream woman and I am the luckiest man alive today, and every day. We didn’t go to school together and we didn’t have any mutual friends; our meeting was fate. Every date and conversation we’ve had has been a first, and each day we learn something new about each other. Today I learned that thinking of you in your wedding dress could make me cry at 7am. I’ve learned that what makes me happiest is seeing your dreams come true and I cannot wait for a lifetime of happiness with you. Thank you for always laughing at my stupid jokes and letting me be myself. You are my inspiration, my comfort zone, and my happy thought. You are my best friend. I promise to always love you and worship our marriage and family. I promise to try and be a better man today than I was yesterday. I promise to make you a mother and be the best father our children could ever have. I promise to grow old with you and love you more with every passing year. So today, I give you not only my headphones, but the rest of my life. And I cannot WAIT to see you! Love always, Cobi”

The morning of the wedding, I remember feeling so calm; knowing that so much time and effort went into making each of these little decisions gave me a sense of peace that everything would go as planned. I truly was more excited to marry my best friend than I was nervous. I even recall telling our amazing wedding planner, Katie Joga, that this bride thing was a cinch and I could totally be a professional bride :)

The weather could not have been more beautiful the day of the wedding; it was actually too beautiful as we had to find shade for our first look!

The ceremony was so beautiful and everything I could have ever hoped for; even the surprise dip from my now husband during our first kiss :)

All night, everyone kept telling us how we were the happiest bride and groom they had ever seen! How our happiness really set the tone for the night. Thinking back, our wedding day was full of so much love, happiness and great memories!

The best advice I can give to a bride and groom, is be sure to let your personalities and relationship shine through on your wedding day. Don’t allow the “chaos” around you or the “wedding structure” take away from the moment you are sharing with your soon to be spouse. It is so fun for me to look back and recall all the little moments where our humorous and often silly love for one another stood out. Let me give you a great example. Our wedding cake was on a barrel, and there wasn’t room for a plate, forks, etc. So, when it came time to cut the cake and all eyes were on, I realized we only had one fork and the cake cutting set. So what do we do? I very gracefully fed Jake his bite on the fork, and Jake very humorously served me a bite of cake on the cake server. It made for a great picture and a fun moment shared between the both of us!

Since our wedding day, I think Jake and I have looked at our wedding photos at least 100 times. We are so thankful to everyone who made our wedding day so perfect!

Traditional-Meets-Rustic Verulam Farm Wedding

A traditional and rustic wedding may seem like an oxymoron, but this gorgeous Virginia couple pulled it off in the most beautiful day imaginable. From the slate blue Amsale bridesmaids’ dresses that inspired the color palette to the bluegrass band at the ceremony and cocktail hour to the Bride’s gorgeous crochet-lace from Monique Lhuillier, this day is a Southern wedding dream. See all the beauty from Rachel May Photography and Ians Creations in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/140467101 600 338]

From The Bride…I was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and that is where Billy and I met, at UVA, so how could we not choose Charlottesville as our setting?! :) But my definition and memories of Charlottesville were different from most, as I was raised near Monticello looking out on the Blue Ridge Mountains, before Charlottesville was the bustling town and destination it is today, so I always envisioned my wedding away from the University and Downtown Mall, out in the mountains on a beautiful farm or estate. I definitely wanted an outdoor setting, and I was drawn to barns as these reminded me of the beautiful farm homes in and around Charlottesville. Billy and I fell in love with Verulam right away–between the magnificent mountain views, the barn that felt so unique and unlike any other reception venue we have ever seen, and finally for the clean slate aspect of the venue as a whole. I felt like we could really make the day and every moment and detail that came with it truly encapsulate our vision coming to life. Verulam was like a blank slate with so many incredible options for how the day could unfold.

I wanted the colors to blend in with the setting, which was largely outdoors in nature, and to be honest it was really anchored around Amsale’s slate blue bridesmaid dresses. The color was perfection against the estate, outdoors and barn, and given how much it popped against the backgrounds I wanted everything else to match it and really blend in with it. We decided early against black tie given the venue, so we chose navy suits and ties, and then everything else was a shade of white, ivory, grey and light blue. The color palette was simple yet elegant, and subtle yet memorable. I just love looking at the colors in the pictures, I feel like they were meant for that venue. I also liked the rustic nature of the venue but did not want the wedding to feel too casual, so envisioned elegant accents that would make the wedding feel formal yet unique.

We had some really fun additions that I have never seen at a wedding before, that were really must-haves in the end for me and Billy. The bluegrass band playing both ceremony and cocktail music was such a nice touch for the outdoor setting. The drone was Billy’s idea and actually worked out to be such an awesome addition, because the guests loved our use of new technology and the video footage that the drone caught was great. Finally, as soon as we saw Verulam I envisioned a lot of walking for our guests, but instead of it being a burden I wanted everyone to enjoy it and participate, so we led the guests to the barn with the sunset in the backdrop (also offered flip flops for the walk!) and I think everyone thought this was such a cool and different way to move from cocktails to the reception. Oh, and late night we offered homemade donuts from Carpe Donut’s donut tent, which were a huge hit!

My favorite moment was when Billy and I snuck off during during for sunset shots. We hopped the fence and went off with our photographer and videographer to capture the moment. It was 10 minutes of just us, enjoying the setting, sunset and time together, right before the reception kicked off. That moment was absolutely perfect.

Amy Webb from Blue Ridge Floral really ran with my vision of simple whites, garland on the table, and lots of mercury glass and candles. She incorporated greys and blues into the bouquets as well, which looked perfect with the dresses.

My gown was a labor of love…it is a beautiful crochet lace from Monique Lhuillier that was altered and hemmed perfectly to fit me that day. Brenda Hill is the master seamstress that pulled that off, because that dress has no boning, just a simple slip so it fits right to the body, and it was ABSOLUTELY perfect.

Our favors were donuts from Carpe Donut, in favor boxes provided by Carpe with stickers I made from Etsy to match our colors.

Our cake was Albemarle Baking Company, almond cake with vanilla icing. I envisioned simple with elegant flowers, which Amy provided for the bakery. Also Billy’s sister, Elisabeth, is a master carver and hand carved our cake stand. It was one of the best surprises I could have imagined for that day!!

Bridesmaid dresses were Amsale, suits were OWNONLY (custom suits), ties were Ferragamo (groomsmen gifts), earrings were Kate Spade (bridesmaid gifts).

Hair was Elle Style Studio, and they included my grandma’s pearls as a hairpiece, that was my something borrowed :)

My piece of advice was be have a vision in mind and plan, plan, plan but in the end, just go with it, and take in every moment and appreciate the whole day for what it is, because it will truly be the best day of your life!!

Rustic Elegant Floral Inspiration From The Wild West Flower Workshop

I’ve always adored flowers (who doesn’t) but when I worked with our floral designers for my wedding, that adoration turned to a full blown love affair. So when these images by Rebecca Hollis came across my desk, I stopped and stared… and have barely resumed work since. Captured at The Wild West Flower Workshop, hosted by Darci Greenwood of Beargrass Gardens Florals + Events, floral designers came from all over to learn, grown, and create, and the finished results – all here in our VAULT – are downright frame-worthy. Take your pick among all this pretty!

From Darci Greenwood at Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events… The Wild West Flower Workshop was held September 21st-23rd, 2015 at the majestic Green Valley Ranch at the gates to Glacier National Park. Hosted and instructed by me, Darci Greenwood of Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events, 13 floral designers from all over the United States traveled to Montana for three days of flower camaraderie and fun. Nancy Teasley from Oak and the Owl and Ashley Fox from Ashley Fox Designs were my guest instructors and made this experience even more amazing with their smiles and expertise. The Wild West Flower Workshop is an all-inclusive package, as we all stay together on property at the luxuriously rustic lodge and all meals are prepared in the beautiful main kitchen. I can’t even begin to explain how much support and friendship developed in such a short time between these designers.

Our first day, after breakfast, we sat in the main living area and had amazing discussions on business and marketing. Everyone spoke of their story and the reasons they love the flower and wedding business. Just listening to each other, students were learning. Many questions were asked and we were thrilled to answer and discuss.

That afternoon we strolled down by the horse pastures to the pole barn and designed bridal bouquets. Students had hundreds and hundred of stems to chose from and it was so much fun to watch everyone pick the product for their design. Mayesh Wholesale provided some of the gorgeous blooms and botanicals and we also brought in local Montana grown dahlias and California grown garden roses. Foraging was probably what thrilled students the most. The Montana surrounding forest and fields provided students with hundred of acres of beauty for them to snip from. There were times when I could hear laughter and squeals of delight from deep in the forest.

A beautiful model was brought in to photograph with each of the students finished bouquet. Rebecca Hollis Photography worked with each student to perfectly capture their work. Our lovely model wore a LeeAnn Marshall gown provided by Velvet Bride.

The next day we worked on centerpieces and tabletop styling. Students again chose from beautiful floral product and forged for much of their foliage. Shape, style and design construction was discussed and everyone dove head first into their creations. Students also were given the opportunity to chose from The TOP tabletop items to create the perfect place setting that speaks of each of their style and their work. I had so much fun watching how each of their personalities and personal styles came out in each of their place settings. All of them very beautiful and unique.

That afternoon students traveled into Glacier National Park on a red jammer tour. Many of them had never witnessed the sheer and magnificent beauty. It was a treat. Rebecca Hollis was along for the ride and captured some of the jaw dropping scenery.

That evening was our Farewell Dinner. While the students were enjoying their tour to the Crown of the Continent in Glacier Park. Nancy, Ashley, Arden, Jessica and myself were preparing. We designed the florals and set the tables for the feast. So many laughs and many memories were made. We all dined that evening under the “big sky” of Montana with thousands of stars.

Showing off my beautiful state could not have made me more proud. And sharing such moments with so many special people was a gift, I was honored!!!

Special thank you to my amazing staff, Arden Greenwood and Jessica Gutierrez for all of your dedication, support and love!

The Wild West Flower Workshop & Retreat at Green Valley Ranch Montana has new dates scheduled: May 23rd-25th, 2016 and September 19th-21st, 2016. Email darci@beargrassgardens.com for all the details!

Sassy Soirees’ Bright and Happy Home

Getting the marble of your dreams is worth the wait and the event planner behind Sassy Soirées can totally attest to that. Taking a builder kitchen and later revamping, Shannon and her husband dove head first into a marble wonderland, complete with a custom island and all the pretty accoutrements for a kitchen/ great room fit for a family of five. When we were building our house 3 years ago the builder didn’t necessarily have the exact options for the kitchen that I had been dreaming of–so my husband I made the decision to just get the cabinets through them and do a mini remodel a couple years down the line. Well this past June we did it, and it could not have gone any better. We built out our island to make it bigger and then had the whole thing framed out in paneling.

We went back and forth for about 6 months on if we should get marble since every stone warehouse we walked into tried to talk us out of it when they saw our 3 kids, but we went for it anyway, and so far 6 months later I DON’T regret it at all!!!! We ended up going with the timeless subway tile for the backsplash, but did get the beveled edge to add more dimension. In the end I wanted the focal to be the art of the veining in the marble.

Our kitchen is completely open to our family room also known as a great room. All the walls are painted grey throughout with one navy wall in the kitchen. I used lots of whites, golds, greys, and blues in both rooms with pops of citrus green. I wanted the light airy feeling with out having it feel sterile for our family.

Blogger Bride: Boxwood Avenue’s Tips on Translating Your Wedding Vision

Hi Style Me Pretty friends! It’s Chloe here visiting from Boxwood Avenue, and today I get to share one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process with you (design!), plus some great tips to keep in mind during the wedding planning process. We’ll be talking planners – and why you need one! – plus a fun Q&A with the pros at A Savvy Event.

Immediately after getting engaged, I knew I needed to find someone I could trust with my vision, but after ‘shopping’ around, I was taken aback by how much a wedding planner cost. I couldn’t believe that they’d be worth it. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding planner, take my word for it: they will be one of the best investments you make in your wedding. With that said. Don’t hire any ol’ planner! I think it’s incredibly important to find someone who has experience designing and executing weddings that showcase the style you’re going for. If you’re not having a ballroom wedding, don’t hire someone whose portfolio showcases mostly ballroom weddings. Keep looking until you find someone who blends well with your tastes!

After interviewing and selecting your perfect planner, you can begin to share the vision you have for your wedding. This can get a little tricky if you’re not sure of the exact direction you want to go! Selecting a coherent design direction can be very nerve wracking in this day in age because Pinterest fills all of us brides with So. Many. Ideas. To narrow my vision down, I created a secret wedding board which I shared with my florist and planner, and stuck to 20 key inspiration images. Sticking to those key images helped me show my planner, Jamie of A Savvy Event, exactly what I had in mind.

Two months out from my wedding, I had the opportunity to meet with Jamie at the La Tavola Fine Linens showroom in Napa, where she was able to arrange to have a set of the flatware, chargers, and other tabletop rentals I had selected for our wedding delivered. We spent the afternoon talking about my wedding’s design plan, and fine tuning every little detail. While we played at La Tavola, I was also able to ask her a few questions about the design process. I am happy to be able to share the amazing advice she gave me with all of you!

CM: What is the biggest mistake you see brides make during the planning process?

A Savvy Event: Pinterest. There are so many things brides want, and either it doesn’t fit in the budget, or doesn’t match their overall look. All too often, I see brides forgo on important things because they start focusing too much on a single image they saw on Pinterest. It’s better for a couple to allocate their budget to achieve an overall look and feel, than to focus too much on a single aspect of the design. My best advice? Never skimp on a great DJ, lighting, or flowers just to get that Pinterest project done.

What do you think is the most helpful resource for brides during the planning process?

A Savvy EventTheir wedding planner, of course, (and I’m not just saying that because I am one)! A wedding planner has the background, the contacts, and the resources to help their clients get everything they need, and at the best price.

How do you work with brides to align your visions?

A Savvy EventWedding planners always want the couple to have what they envision for their wedding, but it’s our job to educate them on being realistic about their budget. I will typically ask about the overall look and feel they’re going for, and if needed, offer alternative solutions that will fit within their budget. Sometimes alternatives aren’t as grand as first envisioned, but they will still accomplish the overall look, and leave the couple feeling happy about the outcome of their special day.

Where do you think it’s worth it to splurge, and where is it okay to cut back?

A Savvy EventI often see couples cut back on lighting, but I don’t think that’s always the best option. In my opinion, lighting and entertainment brings the biggest bang for the buck! If a bride is looking to cut back, she can always scale back on rentals or repurpose florals to save a little money.

What makes for a happy and helpful bride?

A Savvy EventI think, it always goes back to the planner making sure the bride is on schedule, and informed of where she needs to be, and when she needs to be there. Also, it’s always nice when a bride can make quick decisions. One of the hardest things for a planner is indecisiveness; once a design plan is made up, it’s very hard to change, and takes a lot of time, plus it can cost a lot of money!

What can brides do to translate their vision to you?

A Savvy EventPictures are always great, but there are so many pictures out there, so having a consistent Pinterest board with a cohesive look is probably the best way to communicate what she wants her wedding day to look like. I like it when a bride uses descriptive words or images such as art pieces or fabrics which can translate what they are passionate about as a couple; this helps put their personality into the wedding.

Isn’t that great advice!? Do you have any tips of your own to share? I can’t wait until the next time I see you guys, because I’ll be sharing my wedding!! See you then!

Colorful Shelter Island Summer Wedding

When the Bride’s from Australia , the Groom’s from Long Island, and friends and family are from around the world, where do you say “I do”!? That was the question for these two, and they settled on Shelter Island, complete with beautiful views and the summer sun. But even that beauty didn’t compare to their celebration, with the blushing Bride, and her ladies’ Jenny Yoo dresses blowing in the breeze. Ryon:Lockhart Photography captured it all, making our VAULT shine just as bright as that day.

From the Bride… When Chris proposed our first question was, “Where in the world should we get married?” He is from Long Island, and I had lived in England, New Zealand, Long Island and Australia at that point. We were both in the process of moving to Boston, after a year of a distance relationship between New York and Australia. We eventually decided that Long Island was the best place for us, because that is where we met and fell in love, where most of our mutual friends were, and it was a middle point between Europe and Oceania for my friends and family to travel to. We wanted to find a venue where our families and the wedding party would be able to stay together for a few days. I had always hoped to be married by the water, so the Ram’s Head Inn was perfect. When picking our photographers, we looked for someone who would be fun to have around on the day, and who would be able to take consistently amazing photographs in the changing light throughout the day and night. Sarah and Tim are two of the most wonderful people we have ever met, and their photographs captured the beauty and happiness that defined our wedding day.

The largest challenge of the wedding planning process was planning the wedding in New York from Boston. My mother was in Australia and my bridesmaids were scattered all over the world, so we had to utilize the internet in every way possible for planning. My mother Skyped in every time I went dress shopping, even if it was the middle of the night for her!

My vision was to keep the wedding design simple and elegant, and to enhance the natural beauty of the grounds at the Ram’s Head Inn. I love bright colors, but felt that keeping the bridesmaids’ dresses in a neutral palette and allowing the colors to be in the floral designs was the look that most suited my vision. This was also inspired by my grandparents’ house in the south of France – so many old stone buildings there are covered in beautiful flowers.

I found my dream dress, Penelope by Watters, which ticked off every one of my wishes – simple, low back, fun tulle skirt, and Jenny Yoo’s Annabelle dress in Cashmere was the perfect bridesmaids match. The versatility of the top half of these dresses allowed each bridesmaid to wear a look that they felt beautiful in. I found a picture online of flower girls wearing a leotard and a tutu, and loved it immediately. Seeing all the girls together in their dresses with their bouquets for the first time was a definite highlight on the day! The men went for a classic charcoal suit, and even though the looks were formal for an outdoor wedding, it came together beautifully.

When I walked down the aisle I could not stop smiling. I am quite an emotional person, and I expected to cry, but I was just so happy. Seeing Chris standing there made me realize how fulfilled I am in our relationship. Also, the scenery was so beautiful, the floral archway was exquisite, and the pianist playing “Can you feel the love tonight” was letting me embrace both my Disney and Elton John fandom! Most importantly, there were family and friends who had literally traveled from all over the country and the world to be there. It was so special, and we both feel such immense love and gratitude towards everyone who traveled from near and far to share this day with us. The ceremony included a speech by my grandfather: he and my grandmother were married sixty years in January. Chris and I had written very simple vows to share: to honor and respect one another, and to treat each other’s dreams as if they were our own. We performed a sand ceremony with sand from New Zealand and Long Island.

The reception was mostly outdoors under fairy lights. The food was local and delicious. We had a few personal touches – Chris had built a swing, and two groomsmen had built a fun photo frame for guests to take pictures in. We had a map where people pin where they had traveled from, and where they thought we should travel to one day. After dinner, we danced the night away. Dancing with people from all different parts of our lives is something I will never forget. The evening ended with toasting s’mores, made from Whittaker’s chocolate (a New Zealand specialty) to commemorate our first date, where Chris had tempted me to come to the beach with him to try this American delight. It was a magical day and is so special to re-live via all of these photographs!

Nautical Navy & Pink Florida Wedding

You guys, KT Merry has done it again. She’s gone and captured a wedding we adore and if preppy stripes and pint sized sailors are your thing, then we invite you to come join the party. First stop? The Vault, where you can find every single moment beautifully designed by the talents at Posh Parties. They absolutely nailed the nautical theme without feeling overly “themed” and to that we say, thank you!

From the couple… Charlie and Lindsey were high school sweethearts in Jupiter, Florida. Through years apart in college and pursuing their goals, they found themselves drawn together repeatedly despite distance and obstacles. After finally managing to be in the same place at the same time, Charlie got down on one knee on the very same beach where they met that lucky night 10 years prior. The wedding took place at Charlie’s family home on Jupiter Island.

Charlie and Lindsey wanted a relaxed and welcoming feel with a nautical touch for the wedding including live music on the dock for cocktail hour, lawn games and dancing under a beautifully decorated tent. The bride & groom’s love of the water, and the groom’s own business building boats, made the nautical theme a natural choice. It was nodded to throughout the day with rope as napkin ties and an oversize compass decal on the dance floor, along with custom navy and white linens in the tent. The groom even built a boat, which held beverages during the cocktail reception.

From the Bride... During the planning stages, there was a specific point that really stands out. About 4 months before the wedding, the bride got a call that the church had accidentally double booked the wedding day. As a solution, Charlie and Lindsey were married at the church on Friday, the day before the originally planned wedding, in a small, intimate ceremony with only their family present. What was initially a potential disaster ended up being the bride and groom’s best decision of the wedding. Being officially “already married” allowed the bride and groom to relax and really enjoy the big event.

My favorite part of the wedding was the cocktail hour food, even though I didn’t get to eat much of it! And my favorite moment was dancing on the dance floor surrounded by all of our friends and family. It was magic, like you could feel and see the happiness glowing around us.

Woodsy + Romantic Wedding at Bedford Post Inn

Carissa and Daniel’s wedding is the perfect blend of the rustic chic and girly glamour. Marrying the magnificence of the outdoors with elegant indoor details, it’s moments like this that’ll steal your wedding loving heart. A day complete with Beat Train tunes and pretty pink gowns, READYLUCK captured every moment to share and we’ve got it all in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…We wanted our wedding to have a “home-y” feeling. Super cozy and romantic. Our color palette was a crisp and clean yet soft feeling. We went with a soft blush for the bridesmaids and a clean, sharp slate for the guys. The flowers were whites and greens, a fresh and clean and crisp feeling. I had this amazing half-flower crown that was so beautiful. The venue, Bedford Post Inn, is the most gorgeous place with every single detail thought out and perfectly decorated. The linens that were used, the furniture in the venue- the whole vibe was EXACTLY what we were looking for. We wanted all of our friends and family to feel right at home, yet still a formal event.

We were stuck on party favors- everyone always has little things that just get thrown away and it’s such a waste of money (in our eyes) so we saw this awesome idea on Pinterest. We bought succulents and terra-cotta pots. We dipped the pots in gold paint (just the bottoms) and stuck a flag with every guests name / table #. This was a great 2-in-1 idea for place cards & favors. I was happy with how they came out!

My favorite moment of the entire day was right before I walked down the aisle, I looked out of the window and saw Daniel, all ready, with the guys heading to the altar. It was such an unreal feeling to see him and feel this connection of stability and happiness. It was perfect.

My absolute favorite element of the wedding was the flowers. THEY WERE TO DIE FOR. Fleurish was fabulous. Understood and executed my vision exactly. Being a creative person, myself, my ideas are always flowing and all over the place. Somehow they figured me out and totally killed it.

DIY Gold Corner Frames

I don’t think any DIY arsenal is quite complete without the addition of gold leaf. Gold leaf makes everything better and can take you from blah to beautiful in minutes. A magical thing it is. Case in point? These gold-cornered beauties that’ll have you digging in the photo archives just to fill them so you can make more for your gallery wall. Get the deets below!

Materials

White picture frame
Gold leaf adhesive size
Gold leaf sheets
Sealant
Masking tape
Ruler
Foam paintbrush
Paintbrush

instructions

step-1

Remove the glass, picture, and backing from the frame. Mark off the gold corners by wrapping the frame with masking tape (we measured 2” from the corner for the smaller frames and 3.5” for the larger frames).

step-2

Paint the corner of the frame with a light coat of adhesive. Repeat on remaining corners and lay a piece of cardboard or plastic bag to dry. Let dry 10-15 minutes until tacky.

step-3

Gently press on a sheet of gold leaf over each corner. Press on more leaf until each corner is totally covered. Use a dry paintbrush to brush off the excess leaf.

step-4

Paint a thin coat of sealant over each corner and let dry ½ hour.

step-5Peel off the masking tape and pop the glass, picture, and backing back into the frame. Voila!
