Classic Black + White Oceanside Wedding

The vision for this Clearwater wedding was classic as can be. Think black and white elegance set oceanside, with an epic cocktail hour and dance party to keep guests partying well into the night. K and K Photography, LLC and Voila Cinematic captured all the fun, and we’re soaking up every last second.

From the Bride… My vision for the wedding was traditional. I wanted to keep everything very light and white and off-white. I wanted elegant black bridesmaid dresses and some light greenery incorporated into the flowers. The things that were important to me at the wedding were the band, the food (having lots of it), and all of the attendees having a great time. That was really the focus of my thought process. Once we locked in the best band in Florida (Heat Wave), created an epic cocktail hour (I describe it as “food falling from the ceiling” – it was everywhere) – I knew the guests would be happy.

My favorite moment was after the bridal party introduction when we all went right into a giant dance party – everyone was up and out of their seats. We jumped up and down to the Black-Eyed Peas “Tonight’s Gonna Be A Good Night” – it was the dance party of my dreams. I was so overwhelmed (in a positive way) that I couldn’t hold the tears back during our first dance. The night was magical.

Into the Woods for A Homegrown Celebration Full of Elegance

Oh to have a backyard this gorgeous. I’m convinced this particular spot was made just for hosting weddings. Set against an oak-filled estate, with the most elegant, romantic details and florals crafted by Florabella, this day is a sea of beauty. And with Sylvie Gil’s images in tow, the proof is in the pudding. Carve out some time for this pretty gallery. You won’t regret it.

From the photographer… Hosted at the bride’s grandparent’s private estate in Woodside, California, Jessica and Michael’s wedding was an elegant outdoor affair. Jessica wore a modern Vera Wang gown with a classic veil, and her bridesmaids each selected a floor-length champagne gown of their choosing to make for a cohesive but unique look. The couple exchanged handwritten vows under the oak trees in the garden where the bride spent time during her childhood, and notes of Spanish guitar accompanied the affair. After cocktail hour on the lawn, complete with signature His & Her cocktails, dinner was served in a clear top tent, allowing guests a view of the towering redwoods overhead and the starry night sky beyond. We used a lovely sea glass palette of pale blues and greens with slate grey accents to create an elegant but understated ambiance as guests dined on lamb and salmon and drank a selection of wines from the bride’s family’s winery. A custom floral chandelier acted as the focal point of the decor atop the dance floor, where guests danced late into the evening. Finally, to conclude the festivities, guests bid the newlyweds farewell with festive sparkler departure as they were whisked away to start their new life as husband and wife.

With A Proposal Story This Sweet, You’d Know The Wedding Would Be Even Sweeter

I’m a sucker for a good proposal story and after reading this bride’s account of how the groom popped the question, I knew this wedding would be one full of love! With a clean color palette and soft florals that perfectly complimented the natural greenery of the venue, this wedding design felt very fresh and romantic. Every detail of the day from the bride’s gorgeous lace gown to the adorable succulent favors was captured by Sheradee Hurst Photography!

From the photographer… This lovely fall ceremony was framed by the beautiful landscape of Fall in Oklahoma. Natiel, the bride, chose a dress with a low cut back and lace. She completed the look with floral as a head piece. Natiel tied in the courtyard look with every organic detail including whites, soft pastels, and succulents. Even her bridal bouquet had lively succulents in it. The couple also gave each guest their own succulent to take home and grow. A cocktail hour was hosted on the front lawn as the sun set in Oklahoma, guests played games and had theme drinks while the couple finished their family photos. Inside the historical Dominion House, the reception was stunning! The cake table was an arrangement of cakes and cupcakes displayed on natural wood. The couple took to the dance floor in matching wedding Nikes that were solid white with a gold swoosh. This athletic, fun loving couple also had a choreographed dance involving all of their wedding party and many friends. At the end of the night the dance floor was packed from one end to the other with joyful choreographed dancing.

From the bride… Jon and I have dated for 7 years. We have come to know each other quite well over this time period, however, he was able to surprise me with the biggest and best question of them all on Memorial Day weekend, 2016. I had just thrown a surprise party that Friday night for his 30th birthday with friends that were in town, unexpectedly there were more than I imagined for a holiday weekend. Come to find out later they knew about what was to come, so they were sticking around for another surprise that weekend. Fast forward to Saturday. We had just celebrated his birthday week and he mentioned that we should celebrate mine that weekend as we would be out of town next week for mine. So Saturday I had to do some errands, one of them being get an oil change. This worked out perfect for Jon, as he so graciously took my car to do this chore for me that morning. I then had no means to get around for the day except with him, so as we went to the gym together and ran some errands, his friends and our families who came in town were getting the surprise engagement party ready.

Later that afternoon he dropped me off at my house to get ready for my “birthday dinner”. All the while he and his roommates are setting up. So once I was ready for dinner Jon comes over to get ready to go for our reservations. He tells me unfortunately he made them for an hour later than he thought so he asked if I wanted some wine and cheese as we like to do for special occasions. He ironically had gotten us a picnic basket for Valentine’s Day and this was the perfect time to use this. We loaded up the basket and went down to the park by my house on a beautiful, sunny, May day. There was already a blanket, wine glasses, and a cheese platter set out, in addition to a present which seemed appropriate as it was a birthday celebration, but also slightly out of the ordinary for us as far as the setting. So we sat down for some wine and he brings out my first gift which was a traveling notebook, as I enjoy journaling when I explore new and exciting places. However there was more to the pages then just potential for writing, he proceeded to open the book and go through our journeys together over the course of the last seven years with pictures and short notes about each significant memory. Upon reaching the end, he listed future hopes and dreams of travel together, and finally at the end had me stand up and close my eyes for the last gift. When he asked me to open my eyes he was down on one knee with the notebook open to the last page, “Will you marry me?” He had his best friend behind a tree photographing our engagement and elation from this joyous moment. We celebrated with hidden champagne for the momentous occasion.

Jon then asked if we wanted to go get some dinner as the reservations were fake, quickly before we headed to a small gathering of a “few friends” that were still in town. We headed to our friend’s house for we knew we could snack there and call for takeout later. Upon arriving to the home, I opened the door thinking it would be a few friends sitting on the couch watching tv or conversing. Instead I open the door to a large SURPRISE!!!! And all of our close family and friends both local and out of town. It was a grand surprise engagement party filled with as much excited energy and love as we had for the beginning of our new life together. It was the perfect ending to a day I will never forget, and perfect beginning to the rest of our lives together.

A Romantic Bridal Session in the Peak of Spring

I’m all about a wedding that celebrates the beauty of nature, especially Mother Nature in springtime. Blooming trees set the backdrop for this inspiration shoot and Julia Park Photography And Cinema captured all the magic from behind the camera. Pop to the gallery for even more and consider our day officially made.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/165709555 600 338]

From Julia ParkWe drew our inspiration from the bright, playful and joyful mood of spring. Fruit trees here are in bloom for a few days only, that makes booming time so special. Where winter is cold Spring is very anticipated. Only a few days ago the branches were bare, and days later, when flowers appear, the mood totally changes, every last trace of long winter disappears. The fireworks of color mark the arrival of warmer days, weeks before we will see the leaves. We love to see weddings take place in the Spring to take advantage of nature’s beauty.

When a Toddler’s Bohemian Bedroom is 10 x Better Than Your Own

I never thought in a million years I would fall in love with a toddler’s room but it just keeps happening. Time and again we share a kid’s room that is designed with whimsy and heart and, in this case, crazy good wallpaper. Meet a bohemian dream space crafted by Elizabeth Mollen of Stone Textile Studio. It has layers of pattern and color and the sweetest conversation spot perfect for reading or tea partying. Take the full tour shot by Barbara Town right here.

After completing the lower level of my client’s home it was time to start on the the upstairs. Their three year old daughter was transitioning from a crib to a big girl bed and we wanted to create a beautiful space for her.

My client loves wallpaper so we designed the space around this cool pattern by Lindsay Cowles. I love how the simple lavender headboard looks against the colorful boho print.

I found this amazing old textile at the Round Top Antiques Fair that we had made into a lumbar pillow for the bed and accent pillows for the reading nook.

My client wanted a little reading corner and when I saw the little brass chairs from Land of Nod, I knew they would be perfect.

I always like to incorporate a vintage element into the spaces I design so I sourced the hot pink Moroccan rug, it is one of my favorite finds.

The Perfect Summer Lake Wedding

Growing up, the bride spent her summers at the family cottage on the lake so it’s no surprise Izzy wanted to say “I do” in exactly that spot. She married her love, Tom surrounded by their favorite people, with Sincerely, Ginger Weddings & Events working her magic on the wedding day design. The photos by Rebecca Yale will leave you craving summer in a serious way and we can’t get enough.

Izzy and Tom were married on July 9, 2016 on Deer Lake at the Boyne Mountain Resort in MI. Izzy grew up spending her summer’s at her family’s cottage on the lake and knew that it would be the perfect spot to say her I Do’s. The bride and groom were married next to the lake facing the beach house all covered in ivy, which carried over into the flowers and design for the day. Izzy’s brother-in-law, Max, officiated the ceremony and the bride and groom were accompanied by Izzy’s sister and Tom’s brother as their Matron of Honor and Best Man. Instead of a traditional wedding party both the bride and groom invited their friends to get ready with them and take pictures with them all in shades of grey, cream and blue.

The custom letterpress invitation suite featured a custom watercolor crest and the Save The Date and welcome note featured watercolor illustrations of the dock on the lake and a map of the Traverse Bay area. The place cards were also watercolored in shades of blue and displayed on a hanging macrame piece at the entrance of the tent decorated in ivy. The bride wore a white grecian style Jenny Packham dress and accessorized it with blue Valentino pumps very similar to the shoes her sister wore the previous year to her wedding. The bride kept her family close to her on the day by wrapping her bouquet in her great grandmother’s handkerchief. The bride also paid tribute to her family by following in her mother and sister’s footsteps and smashing her own glass during the I Do’s.

The bride and groom had their first look by the lake followed by portraits in the forest before the ceremony while guests enjoyed a pre-ceremony refreshment. After the ceremony guests returned to the cocktail lounge area by the water and the Matron of Honor and officiant’s 6-month-old golden doodle puppy made a quick appearance. Guests were welcomed into the tent for dinner and dancing, which had been set in Tuscan blue linens with dark blue napkins and gold silverware for contrast with organic white and green centerpieces. The head table was a rectangular farm table with a leafy green runner dotted with white garden roses and peonies and a couch for the bride and groom to lounge on in between dances.

The bride surprised her groom with a dessert table full of donuts- his favorite treat- in addition to the cake. After cutting the cake the bride and groom took a quiet moment to themselves to walk to the end of the dock and watch sunset wrapped in one of the blankets thoughtfully provided for guests to snuggle up in as the nights get cold.

Tying the Knot in a City They Fell Head Over Heels For

A breathtaking Monique Lhuillier and an equally as breathtaking Manhattan skyline are quite the match. And for this couple, who fell in love with New York City it made the most sense to gather their loved ones in the spot they fell head over heals to celebrate. Both modern and traditional, ethereal and wholeheartedly NYC, this wedding planned by Elegant Occasions by JoAnn Gregoli and captured by Cynthia Chung Photography will make you fall hard for the Big Apple too.

From the Bride… Neither Daniel nor I grew up in New York but had both moved here for work. During our time in New York, we both fell head over heels in love with the city. Especially after we got engaged in the Hamptons, we knew we wanted to have our wedding in New York City, to commemorate and celebrate our time here. From the second we saw the stunning panoramic views of the downtown Manhattan skyline from the top floor of Trump Soho, every other venue paled in comparison.

As most of our guests would be coming from out of town, we thought this was the perfect way to showcase for them the city. We chose the Church of the Heavenly Rest for our ceremony because we were enraptured with the majesty and beauty of its architecture, and it most definitely fulfilled the dreams I’d had since I was a little girl of a fairy tale wedding. For the decorations and floral designs, we wanted to keep everything clean, classic, and elegant. Especially with the stunning architecture of our church and the unique downtown views of Trump Soho, we didn’t want to have too much and detract from their intrinsic appeal. From my walk down the aisle, to being introduced to all our family and friends as husband and wife for the first time, to dancing the night away with the Manhattan skyline lit up behind us, every detail and every single person we had the opportunity to work with was so perfect and far exceeded anything we had ever imagined.

The Most Glamorous Garden Affair in the Middle of the City

A wedding through the lens of Jose Villa is pure beauty no matter how you spin it. And this celebration has a whole slew of wedding superstars behind the scenes. From the most timeless design and planning by Mindy Weiss to layers upon layers of white blooms (including a floral dog leash!) by HMR Designs and topped off with one of the most insanely gorgeous cakes by Sylvia Weinstock, this collection of images just might do you in.

From the bride… John and I were in the same year at the same high school, but in our 4 years there, we never once spoke to each other. It was only several years after college that we finally met at a mini high school reunion in a small bar in Chicago. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Much of our wedding was planned long ago, I think it started when I was 12. I knew I wanted an airy, romantic garden in the city. I knew I wanted my bridesmaids to wear different dresses. I knew Sylvia Weinstock was going to create my sugar-flower covered cake. I knew there’d be a table dedicated purely to desserts. And I knew my dress was going to be lace. My adolescent dreams didn’t veer far from reality. John and I were fortunate enough to be surrounded by a wonderful team who helped us bring our vision to life. We wanted our wedding to feel intimate and romantic. Soft lighting, beautiful fabrics and drapes, and an abundance of flowers set the perfect tone for an unforgettable evening.

Inspired By Fairy Tales, This Bride Created Her Own Glamorous Happily Ever After

With a love for romantic fairy tales, this Bride took that inspiration and ran with it. And with the help of Master Plans Events & Design, the finish results are worthy of a true happily ever after. From the gorgeous gown to the never-ending white florals, it’s jaw dropping, no other way to say it. Sposto Photography and Cotton Love Studios captured all for our viewing pleasure in our Vault right here!

[styleguide}

From the Bride… I’ve always been obsessed with dark romantic fairy tales, like Alice in Wonderland and Snow White. And I knew I wanted to incorporate that feel without being so literal. My first inspiration came in the form of a mirror invite by Royal Panache. RP and Master Plans designed for us thee dreamiest invitations. When our guests received a white box with our wedding insignia, they said they got butterflies, which was exactly the feeling I wanted to evoke; I wanted to get our guests excited! “It was like opening a gift” they said. Inside the box was a gray velvet portfolio, adorned again in silver foil writing with our insignia and the title “Mirror Mirror on the Wall”. It opened like a book to a big mirror inviting our guests to our wedding. From there, our mirror theme was born.

The big day was magical. My bridesmaids and myself stayed in the bungalows at the Terranea the night before. All I did was wake up and shower and our wedding team did the rest. I never once had to think about anything other than enjoying the pre-ceremony experience and having a blast with my best friends and family. I wore my dream dress by Galia Lahav. It was the first dress I tried on. The low back is a signature of mine, and all the tulle that made up my long train, felt like I was walking on clouds. My favorite moment of the day was walking down the aisle with my dad while Kenny Earnest, guitarist, sang “We Belong Together” by Gavin DeGraw. The first thing I saw was a sea of faces of all our loved ones through the bars of the gate. And when the gate opened, I got teary eyed at the sight of Frank and our son waiting for me under a crystal chandelier.

The planning process for us was so incredibly special. And we owe that experience to Yingka Chou, and her team at Master Plans. They created an effortless, open atmosphere of fun through our journey. Yingka took the reins with my vision and brought it to life. My number one advice to anyone planning their wedding is to get a wedding planner! Their knowledge, help, and connections are priceless.

From Master Plans Events & DesignWe knew from the get-go that our relationship with Amanda and Frank was going to be special. Amanda reached out to us almost two years before her planned wedding date to begin dreaming up her special day. Their love story is a special one, dating for over 12 years, and having two amazing little ones together, this was truly a celebration of their family. We loved spending time with bride developing a vision for her day, and we had plenty of time to make sure she got absolutely everything she wanted!

The wedding was designed around the theme of mirrors. Terranea’s Catalina Ballroom, where the reception took place, has these beautiful massive mirrors lining one wall of the room, so the design really complemented the space. Mirrors were used for everything from the custom mirrored acrylic invitations, to the mirror-top dining tables for guest seating. We even had a custom mirrored monogram for the couple’s white dance floor. In addition to mirrors, Amanda and Frank also had one “must have” item for their wedding, and that was the amazing gates that greeted guests as they arrived at Catalina Point for the ceremony. It was absolutely breathtaking to see Amanda walk down the aisle as the gates opened for her and Frank was able to see his bride for the first time.

For the flowers, we collaborated with Nisie, on a simple and elegant design of all white florals, with accents of grey, which enhanced the mirrors beautifully. Guests enjoyed getting their photos taken in front of the giant paper flower wall used as the photo booth backdrop, while sipping on the couple’s specialty drink of champagne topped off with cotton candy. For us, the best part of the entire evening was when the newlyweds shared their first dance holding their two little ones to their favorite song, “The Scientist” by Coldplay. We were so happy to be a part of Amanda and Frank’s wedding, not only because it was incredibly stunning, but even more so because we had the opportunity to create countless memories with this wonderful family.

A Tale of Love + Fashion and the California Desert

With the pretty pastels of the California desert as a backdrop and enough stunning fashion to satiate even the most discerning of style mavens, this engagement session is filled to the brim with gorgeous. And then there’s the photographs. See this sweet couple through the lens of Lucy Munoz and if you’re on the hunt for a new party dress, this gallery will certainly do the trick.

From the photographer… Tyler and Kristen’s engagement shoot took place in sunny Palm Springs because we wanted California light, a fun and scenic atmosphere, and the colors of the desert as a backdrop for some wow dresses.

If anyone has incredible taste, it’s Kristen ( so I knew going into this we were going to have some show stoppers). I also style on the side, so together we were the perfect team. I think you’d agree any of these outfits would make the perfect engagement dress! The first dress is a gorgeous sheer beaded gown by Michael Costello that shimmered when the light caught it. The second gown is by Olia.

We wanted some florals that were soft and didn’t compete with the outfits. Rogue and Fox created the most perfect bouquet filled with Italian ruscus, sweet peas, mums, Veronica, ranunculus, garden roses, snap dragons, lisianthus, and star ferns. These two were so much fun to shoot (we couldn’t stop laughing the entire time). I seriously can’t wait to photograph their wedding in May!

This Seaside Ceremony + Reception are #DestinationGoals

Kicking back with a tasty cocktail and playing beach volleyball sounds like the perfect way to spend a sunny morning and for Evan and Shiann, it also happened to be the kick-off to their crazy cool wedding day. Yep, this awesome couple soaked in some Vitamin D before walking down the aisle and it was as laid-back and beautiful as their entire celebration at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. Soak in every moment captured by J.M. Hunter Photography here in THE VAULT.

Evan + Shiann opted out of the traditional hometown wedding and went for warm beaches and clear waters instead. With a relaxed morning of volleyball and cocktails, this wedding was everything a beach wedding should embody. With not much focus on the details and more focus on the two, it was a very emotional ceremony dedicating themselves to one another.

Like any other wedding there is always some form of speed bump along the way and weather, of course, was a big factor on their day. During the summer months Cancun and Tulum get hit with a lot of rain storms. This isn’t a few sprinkles here and there, but rather a downpour and high strong winds that can come and go in the blink of an eye. There was a very high concern from the day-of coordination about having the reception and dinner outside. However, Shiann and Evan were determined to have their reception the way they envisioned it and took the chance anyways. I am so glad they did because immediately following the ceremony came shots of tequila and and an intimate dinner with sand between their toes accompanied by an ocean breeze. It was beautiful.

From Start to Finish, These Two Never Stopped Smiling

Every bride is beautiful, but this one right here? She rocks the wedding look like no other. From the dress to (my personal favorite) her sparkly headpiece, she’s literally beaming as she walks down the aisle to her future hubby. Iris Films captured the whole thing and more, as these two danced the night away with one crazy glamorous and elegant affair. There are some solid feel good vibes right here – enjoy!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/185871177 600 338]

From Iris FilmsSome weddings just go through the motions. Others completely shatter the mold! Yakira and John set out to make one of the most unforgettable days for themselves, their loved ones, and their guests. And that is exactly what they did!

Let’s break it down: a stunning backdrop location, a wedding dress to die for (I mean, that train! Come on!), a ceremony styled in a way that we have never seen (and it working like you wouldn’t believe), and a reception transformation from a normal horse barn into a place of pure magic. To put it into one word would simply be… epic. But all of this would be for not without the beautiful Yakira and debonaire John! Two kind-hearted people that truly found love in one another and share that love with the rest of the world. Let’s just say, we had an amazing time with them! Enjoy!

Your Visual Guide to a Timeless Wedding Design

Mark my words, a wedding day designed like this will stand the test of time. A neutral palette, lush garden blooms, plus a table rich with layered textures equals a celebration that translates no matter the trends. Thanks to the lovelies of White Event Studio, Vasia Photography and the entire vendor crew for helping us ring in springtime in the prettiest way.

From Aranza Grant of White Events… I’ve always had a thing for feminine colors and when you throw the word “elegant” into the mix you have the most perfect combination. Society Florals gorgeous centerpiece and bouquet brought together the vision by choosing the perfect colors and flower varieties. Plume Calligraphy handcrafted the most stunning paper goods with beautiful illustrations. Ruth and Dean made a simple yet lovely cake embellished with handmade ribbon from Carousel and fresh blackberries. Conscious Hair and Heartwood & Co created the most romantic and timeless look for our gorgeous model, allowing her natural beauty to shine. The Lenora gown proved by White Peony was everything we could dream of for our model.

Last but not least, Vasia was an incredible woman to work with. Not only do I love her work but she is also so passionate and talented. When the scans came back, I had no doubt she was the perfect for this shoot. My advice to couples getting married is to bring their essence into the celebration and not to get caught up with a specific theme or color palette. Do what feels true tho you and have fun experimenting with colors and textures!

This LA Couple Planned Their Dream Wedding in Provence

Randi and David both work in the fashion industry, so it will come as a surprise to no one that their wedding day style was completely on point. They gathered up all their friends and family for a weekend in Provence with the amazing Lavender and Rose crew ensuring it all went off without a hitch. M & J Photography + Pascal Delé Filmaker documented the festivities and we’re covering every last bit.

From Lavender and RoseIt was a true delight for us to be able to assist Randi & David with their wedding in Provence. As the couple work in the world of fashion, both partners were particularly concerned with the style aspects of their big day right from the start. Based in Los Angeles, they fell in love with the Villa Baulieu near Aix en Provence knew it was the perfect place.

The weekend of festivities kicked off in a private villa where guests were treated to a tasting of local wines and cheeses with a wine expert and former sommelier from Alain Ducasse’s eatery in Las Vegas. Guests were then invited to savor a summer evening among the vines, discovering French gastronomy. It was a relaxed and informal sharing platter meal, during which the wine and conversation flowed aplenty.

More from Lavender and RoseThe morning of the wedding began with the long-awaited preparations at the Villa Baulieu. The ceremony triggered high emotions, with Randi & David exchanging vows before their loved ones, followed by a cocktail reception and dinner beneath the starry sky. High emotions and a few tears were then replaced by music, laughter and dancing until dawn. The wedding made for the perfect Provence summertime weekend!

5 Wedding Registry Myths Debunked

We know that registering for your Big Day comes with an entire list of do’s and don’ts, but we’re here to tell you, loves… there really are no rules. So if you need help wading through the endless advice, we’re teaming up with Zola for a little myth busting sesh of our own. From cash registry etiquette (go for it) to china must-haves (it’s not necessary), we’ve got you totally covered. Scroll below for debunking 101 and for your chance to sign up for Zola’s all inclusive registry.

MYTH ONE: YOU HAVE TO REGISTER AT MULTIPLE PLACES

If trekking from store to store scanning your hearts out sends you into a deep panic, then take a deep breathe and don’t stress. Because that age-old tradition of registering at multiple places? It’s definitely NOT a must. With Zola, you can keep your wants all in one place, making everything so, so easy for you AND your guests. MYTH TWO: YOU NEED CHINA

Registering and picking out that perfect china pattern sort of go hand in hand (we’ve all seen the movies), but if you’ve never in your life yearned to dine on some fancy dinnerware, then guess what? You can skip it. Sure, the perfect set of china is a pretty addition to any holiday, but if you’re honestly never going to use it (and there’s a LOT of you), then we suggest putting that energy elsewhere. (Hint: Zola has some crazy cool options in casual dinnerware that are a must.)

MYTH THREE: REGISTERING FOR CASH IS TACKY

Thinking about registering for cash, but don’t want to appear “tacky” or offend your guests? Don’t worry… you won’t. With so many of you already co-habitating with your sweetie, the last thing your nearest and dearest want to do is give you another toaster you can add to your abode. The best option? Cash, aka, a gift that can be used in sooo many different ways. With Zola, you can create a personalized cash fund with super low fees, then start planning those crazy cool excursions you wanted to do on your honeymoon OR take that trip to London you can’t stop dreaming about. And sometimes, no matter how much time you spend trying to find that perfect lamp for your new boudoir, the moment you see it in your house it’s just… nope. So, yes… you CAN return + exchange things. And with Zola, you’ll receive notifications once a gift has been purchased and you can even exchange or return that item before it ships. I mean, that’s beyond awesome.

Romantic Wine Country Wedding With Incredible Personal Details

When I read that this bride worked for the Visual Merchandising team at Pottery Barn, I was certain this wedding would be one of aesthetic perfection…. and I was right! Located at the bride’s childhood home in the gorgeous Napa Valley, this couples’ day was the perfect curation of their love story full of artistic details, delicious food, and plenty of good wine! Get inspired by all the stunning details in The Vault!

From the bride… We fell in love in the Fall, so it was never a question that we would tie the knot and make it official in October. We choose my childhood home, as we had spent many weekends coming up from San Francisco to the Napa Valley where we made lasting memories in the small town where I grew up. Our relationship is built on food, friends, good wine, music and laughter. Whether we were making pizzas in the outdoor oven that my father built, helping my parents rack homemade wine, or throwing a “Quattro Formaggi” on the rammed earth bocce ball court in the backyard, we always ended the night watching the sunset over the vines with a glass of wine.

I work for Pottery Barn on the Visual Merchandising Team and was lucky enough to have a few co-workers on-hand to help pull together our dream wedding. From inspiration and design, to decorating and dancing, and even my wedding makeup, the PB visual team can do it all!

When you get to work with incredible product everyday, you tend to become some what of a pack rat and over time, I have slowly curated collections of accessories. Quite a few years ago I bought 100 hanging votive holders from Pottery Barn in the hopes to someday use them at my wedding… And I finally got my wish! The team created a floating wall of light, hanging the votives with invisible fishing line along the full length of the bocce ball court in the backyard. I bought flameless remote-operated votive candles, so as the night turned dark, you pressed the remote and the whole wall flickered, it was pure magic.

For the inside of the tent, I asked my best friend, who works in a local stained glass shop, to cut the bottom off of over 60 magnum wine bottles to create candle hurricanes. We layered in lots of flickering candlelight and fresh eucalyptus for the dining table centerpieces. My boss found an artist in Guerneville who re-purposes the bands from used wine barrels to create large galvanized spheres. The team hung over 20 of them down the center of the tent, placing flickering flameless candles in each one, and hanging olive branches and eucalyptus from the spheres.

My parents have an antique outdoor swing, that has been passed down through generations on my father’s side. The team repainted it, draped it in a found kantha throw and oversized pillows, and adorned it with eucalyptus and spray roses, creating a romantic lounge where guests could relax during the wedding.

For months, I collected pieces of cut glass; large and small plates, bowls and glasses, to make customized glass display stands for the pie and cheese tables. All of the wedding signs were designed and hand painted by Lindsay, my talented co-worker from the Visual Team. We used wood scavenged from around my parents property…. There was more than enough!

Doug and I wanted the food at the wedding to be as much a part of who we are as it was delicious. One of our first weekend trips together was to Tomales Bay where we shucked and ate dozens of oysters. In that spirit, we hired The Oyster Girls from Tomales Bay to shuck oysters for our guests during cocktail hour. Our favorite spot to stop for a pint is the Russian River Brewing Company, and we could not have our wedding without enough of the local Pliny the Elder IPA during cocktail hour. The cheese table included our favorite cheeses from the nearby Cowgirl Creamery, dried figs from the tree in my parents yard, and my mother’s homemade quince jelly. We served special wine during dinner, homemade by my father in the garage, that was decanted into glass milk bottles from the local grocery store. It was his best vintage yet!

The suit and shoes Doug wore were designed and handmade at Al’s Attire in San Francisco. The jacket, pants and even the shoes, have a label with his name hand-sewn into it. My something blue was a label with my new married name on it, hand sewn into my gown by the designers that made Doug’s suit. For something old and something borrowed, I wore a black velvet belt, given to me by my mother, that had been passed down from her grandmother.

Every time a member of my family gets married, my very large group of cousins choreographs a surprise song and dance. They performed a rousing rendition of “Gimme Some Lovin” by the Blues Brothers before the dancing started.

Doug and I love to cook together and use glass canning jars for our leftovers. We wanted a unique escort card/wedding favor, so we filled small glass Weck jars from Williams Sonoma with our favorite Castelvetrano Olives, so guests could snack while waiting for dinner. We figured most kids probably wouldn’t like olives, so we filled their jars with goldfish crackers.

We love collecting art for our home. Every trip we take, whether it be a quick weekend in Mendocino or a longer stay in Mexico, we try to collect unique pieces of art from our travels. We asked our guests to create a piece of art that would capture the emotion and love of our wedding day. We set up an art station with a large canvas, paint brushes and paints. The piece started with the younger guests in the beginning and as the night progressed, was layered and completed by the older guests. The art piece is one of the most cherished and special memories from our wedding. It hangs in our kitchen and we love having a daily reminder of our amazing day.

Our photographer is a close family friend, who also photographed my sisters wedding at my parents house, so when the day came for us to chose our wedding photographer there was no question who we thought could best capture the moments of our day.

Our wedding planner, Lindsey, was the best decision we ever made. At first we wanted to try and pull the wedding off on our own but as the day neared we realized we were in way over our heads. I reached out to her, late one night, and thankfully she was able to fit us into her busy schedule. She was literally a life saver and the sole reason the day went off without a hitch.

The wedding was a true labor of love with help from our families, friends, our incredible vendors and the very talented Pottery Barn Visual Team, Dean, Jaush, Deanne & Lindsay, who were all there to bring our vision to life.
