The best flower girls ever? These sweet grandmas.

After seven awesome years at SMP, I’ve finally landed on my fave wedding moment of all time. Yep, this beautiful bride asked her sweet grandmothers to act as official flower girls and if you’re thinking that’s the cutest thing you’ve ever heard, you would be right. Add to that heartwarming moment the prettiest backdrop in all of Los Cabos (hello, Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa) and you’ve got yourself a destination winner. See it all captured by GVphotographer in THE VAULT.

From GVphotographerThis amazing beach wedding took place at Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa, located just a few steps away from the sparkling Sea of Cortez just between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Lacey and Jeremy had a beautiful ceremony officiated by the best Minister in Mexico (he was my wedding minister as well). Their wedding was unique with a special twist by having their grandmothers as flower girls, scattering rose petals along the bridal path. At the conclusion of the ceremony in what is probably the best known of all the rituals associated with Jewish weddings it is customary for the groom to break a glass to confirm the union. After a few cocktails, tequila and a lot of dancing they decided to continue the party at the swimming pool. This was a fun wedding with friends and family, everybody had an amazing time in this Cabo destination wedding.

Nautical Meets Vintage Travel for this Beach Club Bash!

With a nod to nautical design, a dash of some vintage travel details, and a gorgeous Bride and Groom, these two tied the knot with one elegant affair planned and designed by TRUE Event. Melissa Kruse and Buzz Media Company captured every stylish second from start to finish, from the invites by Tie That Binds and oversized yard games, to the candlelit reception and beautiful peach and blue linens from La Tavola. See every bit of this bash in our Vault right this way!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/205424268 600 338]

From Melissa KruseI’m excited to bring you this elegant nautical and vintage travel inspired beach wedding in collaboration with planning by TRUE Event! Saying “I do” just down the street from where the bride (Meghan) grew up, the couple set out to combine their affinity for family, travel, the shoreline, and vintage finds – adding a bit of New York edge (their now home together as newlyweds!) along the way. The day’s pantone was inspired by pops of sunset colours mixed together with soft neutrals like blush, ivory and grey while their aesthetic tied together romance, timeless elegance, and whimsy with just a touch of industrial thrown in.

In keeping with the importance of highlighting family, Meghan prepared for the day at her family’s beachfront home just a few blocks from where the ceremony and reception were hosted – the same spot her older brother was married years before. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the flower girls, Meghan’s nieces, plucking fresh flower petals to later toss as they walked up the ceremony aisle. Dressing took place in Meghan’s childhood bedroom, where she was donned with the groom’s (Pete) grandmother’s earrings and a Blue Lapis Tiffany & Co heirloom ring from her own grandmother. Opting to forgo a traditional wedding party, the couple was instead surrounded by family throughout the day. Paper parasols and cotton robes customized with each lady’s initials were gifted to match Meghan’s own while the bridal bouquet was wrapped in the same fabric used in her soon to be sister-in-law’s dress. Meanwhile, the groom was preparing with the guys of the family just a few doors down the street. Custom details included embroidered initials on Pete’s made-to-order shirt cuff and a bespoke pocket square embroidered with an “M & P” accompanied by the couple’s wedding date.

The invitation suite, like the rest of the day, was classic with a touch of vintage and personalization. Letterpress printing with an antique typewriter font was complimented by a map of the Long Island Sound (their wedding’s locale) as the envelope liner and an artist’s rendering of their wedding venue on the suite’s RSVP card.

A waterfront Catholic ceremony officiated by Pastor Thomas Lipnicki, their family’s long-time friend, was followed by an extended 2 hours of cocktails complete with a 4-piece jazz band and beach side lawn games. Traditional croquet was accompanied by over-sized Jenga and Connect Four, while corn hole boasted American and Canadian flags (representing the bride and groom’s respective nationalities) and coordinating bean bags customized with Meghan and Pete’s initials and their wedding date. Creating their own spin on a guest book, a vintage typewriter was paired with a note requesting guests to type their advice and good wishes. Handwritten vintage travel-themed postcards made for inspired seating cards while signs were created with typewriter text and a collection of mix and match picture frames.

For the reception, personal touches were found in the mismatched antique silverware and guest favors by way of donations made in each guest’s name to the Good Dog Foundation (in honour of the newlywed’s adorable pup, Ollie). In lieu of a traditional cake cutting, French Fromage and Sauternes plates were passed (a nod to the couple’s time spent together in Paris) in combination with a dessert table featuring a Canadian classic, “Nanaimo Bars”. And to finish it all off, what better way to end a celebratory day at the beach than with a pile of Mexican Blankets to cozy up by an oceanside bond fire.

Here’s the wedding on my blog as well! http://www.melissakruse.com/melissakruseblog/madison-beach-club-wedding-photographer-meghan-pete

An Empty Warehouse Turned Wedding Inspo Goldmine

When Gigi Mallatt Events set out to design inspiration for the modern bride, an empty warehouse was just the blank canvas she needed. Sleek, chic, yet anchored in classic elegance, every light-kissed image by Kristine Herman is worth devouring and we’re just getting started. More this way!

Gigi Mallatt EventsAfter stepping foot in this empty warehouse, my eyes began to create. Being surrounded by all that white space, it felt as if this was my blank canvas to create a design that stayed true to its modern bones, but really add a touch elegance to it. We created this through color, texture, and one gorgeous couple!

The tablescape was adorned in a silver-gray linen with a very sleek look. Gorgeous floral pieces in beautiful pinks and an enormous amount of greenery and modern pieces with touches of gold throughout were present in the design to add a touch of elegance. The cake trio was a great alternative to a single cake and entailed a modern cut out design throughout. With a beautiful paper suite that focused on simplicity and clean design, it was a great addition. The dress by Hayley Paige was a show stopper! The illusion embroidery on the top was so delicate and combined with the layered bottom, it really added to the design.

A Genius + Creative Way to Celebrate a Birthday

A few years ago, we featured this gorgeous, moody 30th birthday and we thought it most certainly couldn’t be beat. Fast forward to today, we have the same birthday girl with a brand new soirée and she did it. Anna Wu completely topped her 30th with a genius and oh so creative way to ring in a new year. It’s spoon carving made gorgeous at the hands of Melanie Abrantes + Amanda Vidmar + Kayla F Photography. See it all here!

Each year for my birthday, I like to gather a few of my friends and celebrate with a little party. Last year it was a pottery class; the year before, a lovely dinner party in the garden.

This year, I decided to get creative again, this time with a spoon carving workshop taught by Oakland-based artist Melanie Abrantes.

We learned to gouge, whittle, and finish our wooden spoons and each went home with a one-of-a-kind piece. Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in making this a wonderful celebration!

From the photographer…Marissa and Eugene met in a bar in Hoboken where they both lived at the time. A few days after moving in together, they were still moving things in and Eugene set up a scavenger hunt in the house with love notes, roses and candles and got down on one knee to propose! They planned their Summer wedding to be held at the Stone House at Stirling Ridge. I had never been to this venue and have always wanted to shoot there so I was super excited! The bridal party got ready at a nearby hotel and then headed to the venue. Their first look was in the back lounge area, where the fence is lined with the cutest assorted hanging mirrors.. A perfect backdrop for photos! Eugene was all smiles and couldn’t hug Marissa enough when he first saw her, which was no surprise since she looked breathtaking in her Madison James wedding dress! We walked around the property and took lots of photos of the couple before the bridal party joined us. The bridesmaids looked stunning in their gold Sorella Vita sequin gowns! The bouquets were gorgeous (I was a bit obsessed)! They had peonies, roses, hydrangeas, lots of hanging eucalyptus, and were finished off with long satin ribbon (my fav!!!)

The ceremony was held on site in front if a really cool yellow wall, adorned with tons of tea light candles! Once they exchanged vows and rings, Eugene dipped his new bride for their first kiss. The reception was so pretty! There were gold mercury votive candles, gorgeous floral centerpieces, gold chiavari chairs and a the sweetheart table had a cute Mr & Mrs banner hanging from it. The bridal party blasted the newlyweds with confetti during their grand entrance, right before the couple shared their first dance to “From the Ground Up” by country duo Dan & Shay. The night ended with Marissa and Eugene outside by the fire pit for some sparkler photos with their friends. The new husband and wife will honeymoon in Barcelona and Italy!

From the photographer… Sammie and Dave had few requirements for their wedding: excellent live music, an intimate setting that would bring their geographically-scattered guests together, fun cocktails, ice cream sandwiches, and, most importantly, nothing stuffy. They also checked every wedding planning decision against their “nothing stuffy” rule, which kept the entire weekend authentic to their personalities and their relationship. The bride’s favorite color is green, so the decision to start with Greengate Ranch & Vineyard to craft an intimate weekend escape made perfect sense. With a canvas of rolling hills of vineyards, a vintage barn, and serene pond, the couple worked with Vanessa Noel Events to build a design around the natural beauty of the venue with seasonal inspirations and modern lines.

A Wedding for the Bride Who Loves Pink Peonies

They say everything is bigger in Texas and lucky for us, that includes the peonies. The bride, Allie made sure her bouquet included the fluffiest pink blooms you ever did see and it made for some incredible photos and video by The Bird And The Bear. From the Bride… After Jeremy and I got engaged and began talking about what we envisioned for our big day and decided we wanted a truly intimate wedding. We wanted those that have been a part of our relationship for the past five years there by our side, as we became husband and wife. We were in a long distance relationship for almost 3 years so our friends and family were an integral part in supporting our relationship and commitment to each other.

We instantly fell in love with Ian’s Chapel at Camp Lucy and knew it would give us the warm and intimate setting we imagined. We wanted all of our guests to spend the weekend on-site of the beautiful property and enjoy their luxurious cabins while they got to know each other better over wine and s’mores by the fire pit.

When it came to the vision of our wedding day I wanted everything to glow. As my fiancé so eloquently put it we wanted to create “intimate elegance.” (Pretty impressive for a man’s man.) I wanted romance everywhere you looked, in the candles, in the flower petals lining the aisle, and the sparkling chandeliers that lined our long farm table under the gorgeous pavilion of Camp Lucy. I wanted to create a space for close family and friends to laugh, love, and create lasting memories.

Including sentimental details was particularly important for me, as my grandparents have passed with the exception of one living grandmother who is in poor health. My mother’s parents were married for over 60 years and have a beautiful and classic World War II love story that will never be forgotten. Jeremy had my engagement ring made from her diamonds, which is so precious to me. She gave both myself and my sister pearl covered bibles to carry with us on our wedding day and her locket with a WWII picture of my grandfather was wrapped around my bouquet as I walked down the aisle.

As many brides understand, our wedding day was a blur. But oh, what a beautiful blur it was. I have so many favorite moments to choose from on that day. Being surrounded by my mom and bridesmaids in the bridal cottage just minutes away from walking down the aisle and being serenaded to “Going to the Chapel” while they danced around was at the top of my list. These girls always know how to calm my nerves. Of course, my handsome groom tops the list and seeing him standing at the end of the aisle was everything I ever dreamt it would be. Stealing small moments with him between pictures and sharing a toast during my hairstyle change were some of my favorite moments.

When the whirlwind of pictures, dress bustling, and hair changes were done we were seated at our gorgeous table for dinner and we shared a moment of taking it all in. This moment epitomizes what that day was about. Everything was perfect. The glowing candles and chandeliers, the stunning floral arrangements, a perfect cool breeze on a November hill country evening, laughter coming from every direction, and champagne bubbles filling everyone’s glasses. My handsome groom looked over adoringly at me and we both felt the magic of that moment. Being surrounded by those closest to us, and realizing we were finally husband and wife was a feeling I know neither of us will ever forget.

Colorful Inspiration from the Hills of Tuscany

This inspiration shoot is not only a work of art from the lens of Thecablookfotolab, but a true ode to the breathtaking colors of Tuscany. Inspired by vibrant shades you’ll find any time of year, Bianco Weddings designed every detail to reflect this Italian landscape and the results are so worthy of a place on your pin boards. Dive in right here!

From Nazym Kombarova of Bianco Weddings… Our concept for this photo shoot was to show a different side of Tuscany as very bright, colorful, energy-filled place. We wanted to create a shoot that speaks to the story of a couple’s love and at the same time, we wanted to tell a story of Tuscany, where every color has its own meaning and significance.

Yellow is featured in the rolling golden wheat fields of summer and also represents the warm Tuscan sun rising up over the hills, vineyards and olive groves all year long.

Look at sky at sunset or mists in the morning and you’ll see all shades of pastel pink! Purple shades are here in the beginning of autumn, and dark purple is the color of the olives that are gathered at the end of the season.

And of course green. Green is the evergreen color of olive and cypress trees, as well as rosemary and sage, which you can find together in any plate of the local cuisine. Try to describe Tuscany without using a single color reference and we bet you won’t be able to do so!

Adorable At Home Engagement Shoot with Sips + Sweet Kisses

Weddings may always be our jam but by golly, I love a good engagement shoot. And the ones shot at home, well, they’re by far my fav. So when Koman Photography shared this gem, I had to return the favor and share with you all too – it’s my own little request for more at home snuggle sessions captured on camera. With a handsome pup, baked treats and sparkling sips, how could you disagree?!

From the Bride-to-be… It was 2009, at a Los Angeles Taiwanese Young Professional (LATYP) meet up event, and Jack was one of the hosts. I tagged along with my friend, eager to make new friends. I sure noticed him for the first time, but our sights did not meet. He was there, I was here, and many new faces in between us. Nevertheless, we became friends, and we eventually became acquainted throughout many LATYP events for next couple years.

It was 2011, at the OC Fair, Jack decided to give me a minion plush toy he had won, and it forever held our hands together. Earlier, I had tried very hard to get a minion toy, but all efforts were in vain. Right at the brink of me giving up, that’s when Jack came towards me, with half of himself behind a large minion. “Here you go” Jack stated, while passing me the minion. Along with the minion, my heart was won.

In the fifth year of our relationship, I guess it was time to make it official – so Jack had thought. When we were spending our Christmas holidays with our siblings at Bellingham, WA, with some help, during an improvised “play” where a few of us were in roles, Jack went down on his knee, and asked me to marry him, asking me if “I would spend rest of my life with him?” “YES, YES, & YES” – I had waited for the moment!

Koman Photography’s style is exactly what I wanted, a soft and romantic atmosphere. They reminded us that “It’s all about you: your love, interests, and style,” so we thought there was no better place than our home to be the backdrop to our love story. During our session, we had a lot fun with Marlene and John, they had their special way of conducting their shoot with ease, which ultimately made Jack and I less anxious. We were certainly worried about awkward looking poses and gazes, especially for Jack, however, John and Marlene made the shoot fun, relaxing and comfortable. Choosing the Komans was the right decision and and Jack and I cannot wait to work with them again on our big day!

Everything You Need to Know About Curating Your Wedding Style

As a Creative Director turned real bride, it dawned on me pretty early in the process that planning a wedding isn’t so different from the branding work I do every day. In the branding world, we’re trying to ensure that there’s a certain level of visual cohesiveness at every touchpoint – or a visual strategy if you will. Today I’m going to walk you through those same principles and how to apply them when curating your own wedding style!

It All Starts With an Inspiration Board

Don’t worry — I’m not going to deprive you of Pinterest. In fact, consider this your permission slip to go ahead and go wild on the platform. Create a new board, and start pinning anything and everything you love as it relates to your wedding, keeping in mind your personal style and the story that you and your partner want to tell during the big day.

This might show up in a color palette you’re drawn to, a feeling that an image evokes, or a specific styling detail that resonates with you that you’d like to see incorporated. One thing to keep in mind as you’re going through this step is that you don’t need to limit yourself to only pinning wedding-related content. Inspiration can come in many forms, so think about pulling typography samples from a magazine spread that mimics the modern vibe you might be attracted to, color palette inspiration from an interior decor image, and texture references for your tablescape from an outfit detail, for example.

Once I feel like I’ve pinned a decent number of images that represent a wide range of content, I like to go back through the board, reevaluating the pins and making notes on each photo. We want to eliminate any images that don’t feel 100% right, so ask yourself what each image represents for your brand and why you’re drawn to it, eliminating it if it doesn’t make the cut. For the images that remain, we want to make actual notes in the caption of each photo, noting what you like about it and what it represents in relation to your wedding. It’s important in order to capture these thoughts to refer back to and also to communicate them with others who may be involved in some capacity down the line.

Determining Your Wedding Themes + Details

The next stage is one of my favorites, when I actually start to print out my inspiration images, starting to look for themes, similarities in content, and natural groupings that occur. You’ll likely have already started to notice these in the inspiration gathering stage, but now it’s time to pinpoint exactly what they are, giving each grouping a name and also jotting down any other tone words and details that feel relevant and help to bring the theme to life.

The main theme that emerged for me after going through this process was what I’ve started to think of as “enchanted disco forest”. Knowing that our wedding is taking place at our family cottage in an outdoor setting, it’s important to us that we complement the venue instead of fighting it, while still incorporating that dreamy, whimsical style that I love.

I have a longstanding love affair with disco balls, and alongside the silvery hints that I started to notice in my inspiration, it seemed like a natural detail to incorporate. I love contradictions in styling details, so the idea of incorporating the sparkly, celebratory disco balls in an outdoor setting with a tangle of wild greenery is totally up my alley, and a DIY challenge that I can’t wait to take on. Early on in this process, I had also found a set of vintage, hand-painted swan favors that felt like a nod to the enchanted forest theme with their fairytale-worthy quality, so those will also be making an appearance, likely as part of the table design.

A Peek at My Wedding Inspiration from The Vault

Starting to Pull Together the Details

As these details start to take shape, this is also around the time when I start to collect color swatches (if you don’t have access to a Pantone book, a quick trip to your local paint store for colour chips will work just fine!) and any other little pieces that will give you a sense of the styling details, colors, textures and finishes you want to include as part of the design for your day. I love ribbons for an inexpensive and flat lay-friendly addition to your inspiration board, and depending on the fabric, they can give you a nice hint of color while also pulling in a texture. Think sheer silk vs. rich velvet or gold trimmed lace vs. a solid pop of color. Other ideas are fabric swatches, like the lace I chose for my dress design, sequins or other embellishment that you’re planning to incorporate, or even jewelry and accessories that start to tie together some of your other styling accents.

Keep everything in a folder along with a selection of your final inspiration images, and you’ll have an easy-to-reference collection of all the details as they start to come together, ensuring that everything is going to work together and bring your vision to life exactly how you picture it. And if you’re one for sharing little hints on social media (guilty!), these little treasures also make for the perfect behind-the-scenes post as you lead up to the big day.

Happy planning!

xoxo, Paige

A Sweet 5th Birthday Through the Lens of a Genius Photographer

When your dad is the one and only Greg Finck Photography, it’s a given your birthday bash is going to be captured beautifully. Sweet Juliette turned the big 5 and for her celebration a woodland inspired party was in order. Feathers and critter masks, pine trees and a golden topped cake all make this day one for the books. See even more right here!

This is the birthday celebration of my baby girl Juliette, who just turned 5 two weeks ago in Paris. This year, I had decided to throw a Woodland Animals theme party, with the great help of Synie for the cake and pastries.

We decorated our apartment in a glitter and pastel  color palette, and brought some touches of greenery in the decor. Synie designed a wonderful vanilla/raspberry cake in the same color palette. She also designed these stunning feather cookies, covered with glitter. They were as yummy as beautiful. Finally, she designed and cooked these small watercolor cookies, bringing a soft touch to the buffet.

Juliette wanted to dress as Pocahontas to match the theme, so we dressed her with a native American dress, a fake fur, and some Minnetonka shoes. She wore a bohemian feather crown from Addaxfeathers via Etsy.

We kept the buffet very simple with a feather garland from My Little Day, some jars containing Lemon Squash and Grenadine. The kids have fun at a Photo Booth with personalized animals mask, ordered via HipHipHaRae on Etsy.

A Blind Date That Ended in Forever Love

Laura and Will met on a blind date and the rest, as they say, is history. They quickly knew they’d found “the one” and when it came time to plan their dream wedding, New York City was the only place to be. They exchanged vows in Manhattan’s Fort Tryon Park and we’ve got all the images from Levi Stolove Photography.

From Levi Stolove PhotographyLaura and Will wanted to get married close to home on the Upper West side but also feel like they weren’t in the middle of the city. Fort Tryon Park with it’s Hudson River views is a perfect melding of city and country.

It was a blustery day which added to the drama, rain threatening, dramatic clouds overhead but it all seamed to work so well. Laura started the day downtown at The High Line Hotel and Will started the day at his parent’s home in New Jersey.

We met at the park with an outdoor ceremony and got to wander around the gardens for their portraits. They both love to dance so the dance floor was jumping. The two of them beamed all day and danced all night.

From the bride… My vision of my wedding prior to planning was pretty simple. I wanted it to be elegant but still casual and relaxed. We wanted the setting to be jaw-droppingly beautiful, but still make sure people felt comfortable in just a sun dress or button down shirt.

We went with neutrals, as I do with most things in my life! Our invitation suite (Copper Willow) and other paper items were a beautiful ash grey with gold pressed calligraphy. Our florals (JL Designs) were an elegant assortment of whites and greens, including natural accents like thistle and pampas grass. I wanted the style to be slightly undone: loose florals, draping greenery, mismatched bouquets, and a naked cake. We also included a lot of natural wood elements, like signage and seating, as well as rustic terra cotta and stone vessels.

We had some amazing natural wood signs created for our main menu board and I really wanted to mimic those and have signs for the welcome, guestbook, hashtag, etc. I purchased raw wood signs from the local craft store and stained them to match. Then my sister is law, who has beautiful hand writing, painted them! They turned out really well and it almost made me wish we had tried to do more DIY things!

Of course the entire day was packed with incredible moments, but one moment that stands out was being able to tell all our loved ones a big secret we had been keeping. My father passed away exactly six months before our wedding day. When we got engaged we already knew he probably wouldn’t make it to our wedding. So just a few weeks into our engagement we had a private ceremony in my childhood backyard, and he walked me down the aisle. We kept it a secret for almost a year and revealed it at the ceremony by sharing photos that were inside an envelope on everyone’s seat with “please wait to open” on the seal. It was a really special moment to share and a meaningful opportunity to remember and honor my dad.

I saw my Mira Zwillinger gown online and from that day forward no other dress stood a chance! The second I put it on I knew it would be the one. I did my due diligence an tried some others on but to me, nothing else came close. I found the dress online because before my first appointment I literally looked at the websites of every designer that boutique carried. I am so glad I did that because you can really focus once you get there and narrow down your choices to what you already know you like. Plus, it’s really hard to tell what the dresses look like on a hanger, so if you have seen them on models already it is really helpful!

My first piece of advice is, if budget allows, get a wedding planner! Trust me, I am the type of person that likes to be in control but having a planner doesn’t mean you have to relinquish that. It just makes it hundred times less stressful! My planners (All You Need Is Love Events) immediately understood my vision and provided me with a few great options for all our vendors. They were there to make every step of the process as easy as possible. They had also worked with many of vendors before which made planning, communication, and the big day all run extremely smoothly. There were a couple things that went wrong on the day, but I never knew of about any of them until it had already all been resolved!

My other piece of advice is to start a scrap book! There will be so many fun events leading up to your wedding and so much you will want to remember. From bachelorette parties to showers, your friends and family will put so much thought and effort into all the beautiful little details at your events. I saved things like invitations, menus, sashes, and cards and along with a couple photos from the event put it all in a scrapbook! I couldn’t stand the idea of all of it living in a box in the closet never to be seen again. I absolutely love showing it to people and it was so much fun to put together.

A Must-See Gown + Peony Bouquet for a Greece-Set Wedding
Coral charm peonies happen to be one of my most favorite things, and when you pair them with the beauty of Santorini, Greece, you get an unforgettable wedding day in every sense of the word. A few words from the bride, Christine… The emotions were high. Waking up in a cave suite that was overlooking the volcanic Aegean Sea made my heart stop. It was the day that I would take his last name. The day we planned for so many months. The day we dreamed of for so many years.

From the moment we decided to get married in Santorini, Greece we knew we wanted something small and personal. Something that had a mixture of both of our unique tastes. My love for rustic and golds and Ryan’s love for art and color. The tables drenched in navy gauze, gold table wear, and of course an abundance of waterfall-like peonies flowing off the tables and down the aisle.

The planning, preparations, and all the stories from friends and family on what your wedding day will be like could never have prepared me for what I felt on that day. Dressed in my stunning Inbal Dror gown, holding my peony-filled bouquet tightly and my dads arm even tighter.

The second that I caught my soon-to-be husband’s eyes I fell in love all over again. Like the first time you know you love that person so much you will never be able to live without them. That’s what I felt. That exact feeling. 10 years later, I fell in love with him all over again. It was a rush that I will never forget. Standing next to each other and looking over to see our 3 beautiful children sitting with such big smiles and tears in their eyes was a moment that will be forever imbedded in our minds. Our first born got to carry the rings down the aisle, our daughter was our flower girl and wore a garland crown fit for a Greek goddess, and our youngest carried a sign that read “Daddy here comes mommy” on it which was a heart-stirring moment.

We wrote our own vows and read them in these perfect navy vow books that we will have for the rest of our lives. Our guest list of 30 enjoyed a champaign toast after the ceremony. cocktail hour followed while we stood on the picturesque white Santorini roof tops. We got to stare into each other’s eyes and whisper sweet things to each other all while looking out into the exquisite Santorini sunset.

Our wedding was a perfect representation of us and it was reflected in the details throughout the day. If our wedding day was any indication of what our lives will be like then we are on the most beautiful, loving, spectacular journey!

From the Bride… Now that the wedding has passed, everyone’s question to us has been “Was it the best day ever?!”and we both look back at the night and smile because it was everything we envisioned and then some. We always said throughout the entire planning process, that the wedding is just six hours of the rest of our lives, and those six hours should be a celebration of our marriage and commitment to one another. We were surrounded by our loved ones, shared a beautiful and perfectly timed first dance to Johnnie Taylor’s “Just the One” after being dance class drop outs, survived a tumble off our chairs during the Hora, managed to tear the under arm of my dress, and are still waking up to that newlywed feeling… so yes, it was the best beginning to the rest of our lives.

As many couples know, wedding planning can be overwhelming when all you want to do is start the rest of your lives together the second he pops the question! Sam and I got engaged bright and early on a November morning and waited until after the holidays to begin next steps. We planned our wedding the same way we go about living our everyday life – as a team. The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park was the first (and only) venue we looked at. The second we walked in it felt welcoming, cozy, and most importantly, intimate – we picked our date right then and there. That January night we walked home, freezing our butts off while envisioning what our wedding would be like.

If only finding my wedding dress was as easy as confirming our venue! Shortly after those big items were crossed off the “to do” list, I rallied the troops (aka my mom and sister) and off we went to find “the” dress.

At the end of the first day I found myself with hives, in dresses that weren’t “me”, and stress I didn’t think I’d have. I decided to start over but without intentions of saying “yes to the dress”. Shortly after, I booked an appointment at David’s Bridal in my hometown after going to nearly every Manhattan bridal boutique and retail store known to (wo)man. At David’s, I tried on dresses that were not my style (think crazy bedazzled, poufy dresses), that would ease the stress and put a smile back on my face. I found my dress thinking it would be another “no”, I actually called it the “Icescapedes” dress. When I walked out of the dressing room, my mom’s eyes welled up – it was the last dress I tried on. I went home to over-think about it and ordered the dress over the phone a few weeks later while on a business trip in Paris. Because it wasn’t 100% my style, I sought out to find the best seamstress team (Sew Elegant) to re-design and reconstruct my dress.

Every last detail of our wedding from the amazing floral arrangements and altar (Cress Floral Decorators) to our dog Riley’s bow tie and yellow lab seating cards (Etsy), to refurbishing a forty year old cake topper from Sam’s parents’ wedding day, we conceptualized together. We didn’t have a “theme” for the wedding; it was more about the feeling. Our hope was that our guests would walk in and have a glimpse into what every day feels like… happy!

That morning it rained; Sam went for a long run and got ready at our apartment, while my sister and I sweated it out at the gym and grabbed coffee nearby. My mom, sister and I all got ready together at Le Parker Meridien, having the same hairstylist who did my mother’s hair for her wedding do mine.

Throughout the day, my bridesmaids trickled in to all get ready together, all wearing a black gown of their choice that made each of their individual beauty stand out. Sam met his groomsmen at the hotel for a scotch (or two), and they too arrived in a dark suit or tuxedo of their choice. It was important to me and Sam to have our favorite people feel like themselves and be comfortable for the long night ahead; we’re so lucky to have each of them in our lives.

The weather cleared up and next thing we knew it was time for our first look, captured by the remarkably talented and lovely Betsi Ewing. From then on, time flew by, it was as if we blinked and we were walking down the aisle hand in hand after reciting our own vows in front of 125 guests. The ceremony was our favorite part, although we were in front of all these people – for that moment it felt like only us. The evening was beyond spectacular and wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of our parents.

Truthfully the details now all seem like a blur, I think we’re still hoping we spent time with each of our guests to tell them just how thankful we are that they were there to share in our love and excitement…

5 Tips for a Smooth Dress Fitting Process

So you’ve made one of the biggest wedding decisions yet—choosing your dress—and you found THE perfect one. Yay! But did you know that the dress fitting process can be just as (if not more) important? Take it from this business-owner-turned-Bride whose dress fitting we’re getting a behind the scenes peek at today, along with her 5 tips to make the process smooth as ever. Clary Pfeiffer captured it all and we’re straight up drooling over the detail—that bow! See it all here.

From the Bride… I wanted my gown to be simple yet novel. My business partner (MESTIZA NEW YORK) and I decided on a form-fitting spaghetti strap gown with a scooped neckline and low back. We sourced the fabric locally in New York City and loved the embroidery on mesh because it wasn’t a typical bridal lace. It reminded me of architectural elements in the city that I see and love everyday. We lined it in a nude so you could see the details in photographs. I’ve always loved the femininity of a bow, so we crafted a removable structured bow belt in ivory silk wool. The bow accentuated my waist and offered an element of surprise when I turned around. What is so cool about my wedding gown is that many of the fabrications were repurposed fabrics from previous projects! It was special knowing that nothing went to waste and we were able to create a beautiful gown.

5 Tips for a Smooth Dress Fitting Process

Take a walk and have a seat

When trying on your dress, it’s important to think about the activities at your wedding: are you able to walk in it? Sit in it comfortably? Can you dance in it? Make sure you think ahead. Relay this information to your seamstress so she can make the changes accordingly.

Choose your shoes

It’s always best to make the dress longer than you’d want and then hem it to the perfect length at the very end of your fittings once you’ve determined what shoes you’ll wear. You don’t want to risk the hem being too short!

Bras matter

At your first fitting, you can work with your seamstress to determine what type of bra would be best for the dress. Some dresses may need pasties, some dresses may need more support or padding. At your next fitting, determine the bra you want to wear and fit it with the dress for a perfect fit.

Know your angles

We made a custom gown for a bride who wanted an embellishment on one side of her dress. We asked her which side would be photographed the most and decided on her right side because she will be standing that way at the altar. Think about where you will be photographed and make sure your embellishments and best features will be showing!

Speak up!

You know your body best and if there is something that looks off to you, don’t be afraid to ask questions and make changes.

Moody Wedding Inspiration for the “Cool Girl” Bride

Fall may feel like ages away this time of year, but as any busy bride knows, it’s just the blink of an eye in wedding planning time. *Cue* this inspiration shoot designed in the hands of The White Book Wedding Co. Striking just the right balance of edgy yet feminine, the images by Corina V. Photography are just the moody inspiration pieces every autumn bride needs to see.

Love Her But Leave Her Wild

For the girl who is easy to love but hard to tame, this styled wedding perfectly captures the elegance and couture air of french gardens and estates with the ever-so-cool french girl vibe. Shot on location in the Orchard room of Langdon Hall Country House and featuring the stunning Jocelyn from Elmer Olsen Models, our chic bride wears two looks on her wedding day to emulate her many sides.

Soft and demure white cap sleeve lace and, sexy and fierce in a two piece lingerie and Dupioni silk ballgown skirt, both custom designed by Valencienne Bridal Design. Dreamy fall air, gorgeous gardens and the classic french doors made the perfect space for Corina V Photography to capture the beauty and wilderness of Jocelyn and the stunning hair and makeup done by Ladylyn Gool and Dawna Boot Makeup.

Matching the light but dark side vibe of our bride, inspiration was pulled from Ellie Cashman’s collection of Dark Floral Wallpaper, making it the focal point backdrop of the tablescape. Planned and designed by The White Book, soft blushes, blacks, and golds were pulled throughout the theme with touches in the Ted Baker show lining and in the gorgeous invitation suite by Andrea Crofts Studios.

French embossed gray plates, black chiffon napkins, layered taupe chiffon runner and brass candlesticks perfectly pulled the palette together on a gorgeous wood harvest table from Warehouse 84. Custom menus and favor tags reading “love her wild” inspired by the Atticus quote were wrapped around perfect little black and gold boxes Instead of a cake with flowers, each guest receives a pretty little box of sweet flowers by Crumb and Berry.

Making the statement of the table, the bridal look and the ceremony were the stunning wild and almost painting like florals of Tellie Hunt of Hunt and Gather Floral. Lush green cut right off the property mixed with fall colored roses and intricate blooms create the oversized totally elegant bouquet, table arrangement, and luscious ceremony urns. To top of the shoot, Crumb and Berry and Hunt and Gather created a sugar flower bouquet instead of a traditional cake. How fun to pick a flower that you can eat!

A Boudoir Shoot Designed With Timeless Romance

If you have even the tiniest desire to book a pre-wedding boudoir shoot, consider this all the reason you’ll ever need. Photographed by Amelia Soegijono and styled by ALC Events and Styling, it’s just the right balance of soft and subtle, with light-kissed imagery we can’t get enough of. Head right this way to see the entire shoot unfold in the gallery.

From the photographer… We dreamt up this light drenched boudoir shoot to illustrate the intricately beautiful emotions a bride-to-be experiences as she prepares an intimate and romantic rendezvous with her lover. The sense of vulnerability and anticipation juxtaposed against the feelings of euphoria and longing are conveyed throughout the shoot by the use of the soft lace lingerie and full-length kimono gown.

Yvette’s delicate curves were complemented with a soft updo and natural makeup. Her femininity was further emphasized by the use of soft florals and foliage scattered around her body. The added finishing touches of the unique fresh flower crown inspired by Viktoria Novak and a grand sized pink rose further exudes the feeling of daintiness and sweet mystery.
