5 Trends in Menswear for Super-Stylish Grooms

While the groom should never try and upstage the bride, he’s definitely entitled to look his best as it’s his wedding day too! While a classic tux or suit will never go out of style, many grooms are incorporating new trends in menswear like fun and unexpected colors, accessories, and textures into their looks. Here are 5 trends we’re seeing on the most dashing grooms.

Unexpected jacket colors
For those who are willing to break the mold of the traditional black, grey or navy suit, there are a slew of new colors and textures to outfit the most stylish of grooms. Stick to seasonal hues like burgundy and hunter green in the fall/winter and paler colors in the spring/summer . Don’t be afraid to mix in texture with fabrics like velvet, brocade, linen, or even seersucker for a preppier groom.

Bold Ties
A tie can completely transform a groom’s look, so many grooms these days are foregoing simple ties and incorporating fun prints and patterns into their ties, or wearing a stylish bowtie.

Non-traditional Boutonnieres
Instead of flowers, stylish grooms are taking cues from their wedding settings and wearing boutonnieres made of berries, wildflowers, foliage, succulents, and herbs like olives or rosemary.

Subtle differences between the groom and his groomsmen
Just like a bride will stand out from her bridesmaids, grooms might also want to have subtle differences from his groomsmen. This could mean wearing a different colored suit, wearing a different type or color of tie, or even having a fun and unique pocket square.

Fancy footwear
Patterned socks, cool sneakers, cowboy boots, funky wingtips, the options are endless for grooms to pick their shoes and socks that best represents their style on their wedding day!

Say “I Do” Encircled By Blooms – AKA The Most Romantic Ceremony Scene Ever

I’ll be thinking about this beautiful ceremony idea for days; a circle of blooms symbolizing unity and eternity for the duo to say “I do” within. But details packed with deeper meaning doesn’t stop there. From the magical location to the poetry behind it all, Ideias de Veludo created an elopement inspiration that’s much more than meets the eye. Momento Cativo captured it all on camera and 24 Frames Cinematography even got in on the action live, and we’re pretty pumped to be starting our week in such a wondrous wayenjoy!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/231846901 600 338]

From Ideias de Veludo… This elopement session brings a little bit of the Portuguese history to life.

The venue was suggested by Vanessa from Momento Cativo when I was also looking for a unique place. I felt like this was a magical spot, like a secret well kept, so it was love at first sight. Obras do Fidalgo is an unfinished façade from the 18th century. Its baroque architecture is beyond beautiful.

The place inspired the rest of the planning. The idea was to transport the beauty and simplicity of the Portuguese history into this elopement wedding.

I could talk about the simple and flowy dress, the color palette, the romantic bouquet, the exquisite cake or the perfect accessories… because all of those elements were particularly chosen for a reason. But when I plan a session, I create a story in my mind, and I truly believe in that story.

So I really want to refer something more deeper and meaningful, that links all the elements, as it links all of us. The vows of this elopement wedding are two poems from two of the most important Portuguese poets: Fernando Pessoa and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.
These poems are about love between two people… They describe love in the most deepest and raw ways possible.

The couple of the session just need each other to celebrate their feelings. So they decide to celebrate their love together in this magical place surrounded by Portuguese history and nature. The place is as raw as the love they feel for each other.

Also, the flower circle on the floor during the ceremony symbolizes unity, wholeness, timelessness, eternity. It means they are complete, they are one. That´s what they believe in and that´s the only thing that matters.

“Love that finally breaks the raw bonds of Being
Such a simple love that increases in happiness
A love so loyal that increases in suffering”
Fernando Pessoa

“To cross the desert of the world with you
To face together the terror of death
To see the truth to lose the fear
Beside your steps I walked”
Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen

Start Your Week Off Right With This Italian Engagement Shoot

Today is a good day, friends. Why? Because we’re starting it off with this ridiculously stunning engagement session by Simply Sarah Photography. And the couple’s love and proposal story? Just as good as the pictures, so be sure to read the bride’s words below! We guarantee this gallery will leave you wanting more…and you’re in luck. We’ve got their wedding day at at Villa Cimbrone, planned by Exclusive Italy Weddings, coming up later this afternoon. Stay tuned!

From the Bride… We met on a dating app called Bumble. A friend had been bugging me to try online dating, and I kept refusing until one day she showed up on my doorstep and created a profile for me. She chose the pictures, selected the features that would help me find the perfect guy I was looking for, and asked me to trust her that it would be fun. She was right! After a week of swiping left and right and two failed dates, I matched with a guy named “Thad.” We started chatting right away. I remember asking him what his full name was since I hadn’t ever met a “Thad.” To my surprise, he said “Thad” was an alias for “Theodore” and most people called him “Ted” or “Teddy,” but that I could call him whatever I preferred. I preferred neither and told him that if his name was Theodore, he could only be “Theo” or “Dore.” Ultimately, I went with “Theo.” This is why my entire family now calls him “Theo” and his entire family calls him “Ted.”

After chatting for a few days, he asked for my number. He said he was in New York visiting family but hoped to take me out on a date when he returned. Admittedly, I was skeptical. I had already been on two failed dates, and since he didn’t have social media, I couldn’t stalk this “Theo” character. But we kept talking, and talking, and talking. Nonstop. And the conversation was so good that I eventually said yes to the date. I just had to meet him! Theo and I met at a local bar called Wine Belly. We arrived at the same time, and to my immediate relief, I saw that he really was the very handsome guy in the pictures. It was a beautiful winter evening in Texas, so we sat on the back patio. He let me pick the wine because he said he only knew of two kinds, red and white, which I found amusing as an aspiring sommelier. We then moved onto the food menu. We decided to order a few items to share, but I was shocked to learn that he was lactose intolerant. At first, I thought that might be a deal breaker, since I am such a dairy lover. But when he suggested I get the cheese plate all for myself, it hit me – this might be true love if I never had to share a morsel of cheese! We had a blast laughing and telling stories for over three hours, and the evening passed in the blink of an eye. He drove me home. But when we opened the front door and stepped inside, my Siberian husky walked right in between us and stared up at him as if to say, it’s time to go. Not wanting to cross my rather intimidating dog, Theo said goodnight and left.

We went on two more dates the following week, and I was falling for him pretty quickly. But then came Valentine’s Day, my least favorite holiday. I told him not to plan anything. However, he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He bought me the most beautiful flowers and card, which he tried to get in Spanish because I’m Mexican, but it turned out saying, “Hope you get better soon,” because he asked a store clerk to translate the cards. I thought it was so funny and adorable.

A few wonderful months went by, and I still had not introduced him to family. I wanted to make sure that the next guy I brought home was the real deal and hopefully my future husband. Finally, I introduced him to my mom when she came to Austin to visit. He was so nervous, but it could not have gone better. Not too long afterwards, I met his mom on her next visit from New York. I was very nervous to meet her, but we had a wonderful weekend together and even took an excursion to the wineries. After that I knew I could introduce him to my family, and when they met him, they loved him.

As the months went by, he won me over more and more with his thoughtfulness and affection. For example, he always showed up at my house at the same time on Wednesdays for our date night. Every week he would surprise me by orchestrating elaborate dates and keep me in the dark until we arrived at our destination. It was so much fun! Fast forward to five months of dating. One night I had a dream that I was going to marry this man, and I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote down the vows that I had said to him during the wedding in my dream. I read them the next morning, and they were pretty silly. Nonetheless, I realized that I had fallen deeply in love and wanted to marry him one day. That is when the waiting game began. In what felt like a few moments, our one-year dating anniversary arrived, and we had already talked about wanting to get married. However, the anniversary came and went, and no proposal was in sight!

A month later, Theo and I went on a vacation to Iceland with my family. On the third day of our vacation, March 27th, we went on a tour to look at waterfalls that culminated in snowmobiling up a glacier. It was a magical day. We migrated up the glacier to a cave which we toured with a guide. It was a very romantic place, and there was even a wedding chapel inside with benches. As we were gearing up to leave, we stood in front of a radiant wall with color changing lights. He said, “Let’s take a selfie!” Those words were music to my ears since I never turn down a good selfie. We took two pictures but the lighting was terrible so we gave up. But as I was putting my phone away, he grabbed my hand, turned me to face him, and got on one knee. He asked me to marry him, and I just nodded my head because I was so in shock I couldn’t speak. It was so unexpected, especially inside a glacier! We celebrated on the mountain. He had apparently been lugging a champagne bottle all day in a backpack with the help of my family, and he kept the ring hidden in his snow pants so I couldn’t find it. The day was such a fairytale and got even better when a surprise solar storm that night that allowed us to see the Northern Lights in all their splendor. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!

See How This Couple Stayed Cool Under the Heat

“We got married on the hottest day on record. Not kidding.” When your wedding day unexpectedly presents you with 113°F+ temps, most couples would panic. This bride and groom, however, stayed calm, cool, and collected with the help of Alluring Events + Design. Cool down towels, Bliss Pops, fans, and some creative timeline adjustment kept guests comfortable and allowed everyone to enjoy the incredibly beautiful day, photographed by Arnau Dubois Photography.

From the Bride… Sawyer and I had been dating for 5 years when he proposed. We were living in New York City at the time, and Sawyer planned a trip to Newfoundland where we would road trip around the island. We started our trip in Gros Morne National Park. On the second day, we ventured on a long hike to a beach. When we finally made it to the beach, it had started to drizzle, causing everyone else to head home. I had packed some pb&j sandwiches, so I sat on a rock to have a snack. Meanwhile, Sawyer had disappeared to explore the surroundings. He eventually returned and abruptly told me we should walk down the beach. Once we got near the end of the beach, Sawyer suddenly got on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was such a special moment, just the two of us on a random beach in Newfoundland. I then realized we had a long hike back. At least this time I had a shiny piece of jewelry to distract me.

A year after getting engaged, we moved back to the city where we met – San Francisco. I knew I wanted my wedding to feel like an intimate dinner party in someone’s backyard. However, we did not know what kind of venue. We stumbled across Beltane Ranch while looking at other venues in wine country and instantly fell in love with its charm, views of the valley, and old oak trees.

We got married on the hottest day on record. Not kidding. The week before, the forecast said mid-80s. I had even rented heaters because I was told it would get cold at night. An unexpected heatwave caused us to scramble only a few days before the wedding. With a high of 113 degrees, I googled all hot weather remedies. I booked Bliss Pops to hand out popsicles to guests as they arrived. We provided cool down towels to put around your neck and fans for guests. The morning of the wedding, the venue agreed to allow us to push our wedding back an hour to get some relief from the heat. I am so thankful for my coordinator and vendors who had no problem with the timeline changed. Everything was executed flawlessly, making the heat a distant worry.

There were so many special moments throughout the day. Before all the guests arrived, we did a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony with close family members. I wore my grandmother’s kua, which was very special. One of my most favorite moments was when Sawyer recited his vows. I have only ever see Sawyer cry once in our 8 years together. To see him break down was truly touching and unexpected. There was not a dry eye in the place. Other moments that stand out are when my dear friends and uncle performed during the ceremony, all the amazing heartfelt speeches, and the first dances. I use to not understand when couples would say that their wedding was the best day of their lives. Now I do.

My advice for couples planning a wedding is to prioritize what elements you really care about. For me, it was the flowers, photographer, music, and ambiance. Don’t worry too much about everything else. You will drive yourself crazy if you try to get everything perfect. I am also very glad we had a welcome dinner the night before. This gave us the opportunity to spend more time with our guests and not feel rushed on our wedding day. And of course, stay present. I took the advice to take mental pictures throughout the night. It really reminded me to pause and enjoy each moment.

The Field Guide for Crafting a Garden Party to Remember

From Lunch Club buddies to engaged, happily ever after was in the stars for this Bride and Groom. And with the help of an awesome team of vendors, including planning by Bustle, florals by Loop Event Arts, and images by Vicki Grafton, they crafted a garden party to remember. Beaulieu Garden is gorgeous all on its own but when you add in copious amounts of pastel blooms and a canopy of chandeliers, it totally nails that whole intimate garden wedding vibe.

From the Planner… It was nine years ago. Some may say Charles and Lily met “twice” in the span of two weeks during a summer internship in Hong Kong. Charles introduced himself to Lily during a field trip, only to find out he had done the same at orientation the week prior! What an impression! But perhaps due to his silliness, they started a “lunch club” with other interns and quickly became good friends who saw each other almost daily. Charles tried numerous times to subtly invite Lily on dates, but those always ended up as larger group outings… Persistence is key, right? Two weeks before Lily would return to the US, Charles took a leap of faith to ask her out and the first date happened spontaneously. One their first date Charles and Lily stayed up all night chatting at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong. Just before the break of dawn, Charles took Lily to a special isolated spot on the Peak that had a breathtaking panoramic view of the island, where they watched the sun emerge from the horizon and the city gradually come to life. Not long after, they made their way to the southern beaches of Hong Kong and enjoyed a relaxing brunch at a seaside restaurant. For their wedding they really wanted a classy, elegant garden feel. The invitations set the tone for the wedding with whimsical blooms water colored on the outer pocket and a rendering of the stunning Beaulieu Gardens on the actual invitation all enclosed in a vellum envelope. The wedding day began with a traditional tea ceremony at the couples hotel. Once the bride arrived at Beaulieu Gardens she slipped into a dreamy lace and tulle gown and her bridesmaids donned the most magical peach tulle floor length dresses. With the beautiful garden feel of the venue we wanted to keep with the garden feel and incorporate a ton of floral. So, we enlisted Loop Event Arts florist. Anna created billowing arrangements filled with lush garden roses, peonies and trailing greens. During cocktail hour Paula Le Duc Fine Catering served up the favorite Ahi Tuna cones and other delicious bites. For the reception Lily literally let her hair down and the couple enjoyed a wonderful meal with friends and family seated around tables with a lace textured linens and chargers, modern gold flatware and grey napkins. Each place setting had a menu and silk ribbon calligraphed with each guests name. The billowing floral arrangements filled with cream, dusty rose, white and soft pink flowers spilled out of gilded compote containers. The nighted ended with everyone on the dance floor dancing under the stars.

From the Bride…We had never lived in the same state so much of our dating history was characterized by travel. Despite the headwinds of long distance, Napa provided a mid-point between our families in the East Coast and Hong Kong, not to mention the neighboring Bay Area is where Charles (and his dad and our officiant) went to college. We both love the outdoors and wanted to be surrounded by natural greenery for our wedding. Beaulieu Garden provided a nice, private retreat from the daily grind and city life that most of our guests are used to and reminded us of some of our first few dates from nine years ago, which included the Rose Garden at Berkeley and Phipps Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh. The different spaces of the venue’s layout added versatility and dimension to the intimate garden party setting we sought – whether it was the Italian garden, reflecting pool, or sycamore arbor. Our vision was to have an elegant day full of heart and meaning. It was fun getting to weave in details that we enjoyed as a couple, such as earl grey chocolate favors that we customized with a local chocolate maker in Washington DC. We also held traditional Chinese pre-wedding customs, including a tea ceremony that is culturally significant to us and our families. On our wedding day, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather to exchange vows, dine under twinkling lights, and dance under the stars. The whole day was magical and we’re especially thankful for our amazing family and friends who traveled across the country and globe to celebrate with us, as well as our talented vendors team who made everything happen seamlessly!

7 Tips For Having Your Best Friend Officiate Your Wedding

Choosing an officiant for your wedding ceremony sets the tone for the entire celebration. If you’re considering asking a close friend to do the honors, I have a few helpful tips.

This past year, I’ve been lucky enough to perform a handful of weddings for close friends. The celebrations were magical, the guests were gracious, and I’ve learned a lot about officiating a wedding. Here are seven simple tips for anyone thinking of having a friend officiate.

1. Choose someone that knows both of you
This may be obvious, but it is the most important. The better your officiant knows you both, the more personal and meaningful the ceremony. Anybody can recite texts and legally wed you. The point of choosing a close friend is to give them the freedom to share personal stories and unique experiences. You’re giving them the best seat in the house. Make sure they’re going to cherish the opportunity equally.

2. Have a contingency plan
Rainy days happen. Make sure you have a backup plan for a venue and audio equipment. The rehearsal may run smoothly as planned, but you don’t want to leave your best friend scrambling for a mic, shivering in the snow, or put in an awkward position. Since they’re going to be the first to walk down the aisle and the last to leave, make sure you communicate about weather expectations, venue changes, and backup plans.

3. Share your vendor contacts
Giving your officiant access to your vendors makes it that much easier to relax on the big day. Instead of coming to you or your fiance with questions, they can contact anyone they need regarding logistics.

4. Include them in your wedding day prep activities
Asking your friend to officiate means it’s that much more fun to get ready together. Include him or her in your scheduled activities to make sure they feel like they’re part of the party.

5. Let them run the rehearsal
You surely have everything planned out in your mind for how you’d like the ceremony to go. Letting your best friend run through a play-by-play during the rehearsal ensures every kink is worked out beforehand while bringing them closer to your wedding party.

6. Schedule time for a last minute mic check
Again, it’s all about smoothing out the kinks. Be sure to pencil in time for your best friend to get settled before the ceremony, especially if they’re not used to being in front of a crowd. Not only does it give you time to breathe, they’ll thank you afterward for thinking of their needs.

7. Tell your photographer about your relationship
Your photographer and videographer are the eyes and ears recording your special day. If your officiant is your best friend, family friend, or a close loved one, it’s important for your photographer to know. They can include your officiant in more shots, capture more personal moments, and make sure your officiant can celebrate the day without being forgotten.

Whatever type of wedding you’re planning, be sure to hold them close and include them in the quieter moments. After all, they’re your best friend. They’re going to rock it no matter what.

Enchanting Blush + White Summer Wedding

Amid the hustle and bustle of NYC, there is a green oasis, The Foundry, covered in beautiful ivy and host to enchanting weddings such as this one right here. Brklyn View Photography captured it all, from the lush surroundings to the tender moments between the new Mr. and Mrs. and this gallery of gorgeousness is putting us in one heck of a great mood. Want in on all this happy energy? Follow our lead right this way

Colors

From Brklyn View Photography… The Foundry is one of the prettiest and most unique wedding venues in New York City. It’s the perfect mix of old and new, soft and hard with an amazing outside reception space and that’s why it was the perfect location for Laura and Kim’s wedding day! Laura and her bridesmaids got ready at The Foundry while Kim was with his groomsmen at their apartment in Brooklyn. The bride wore a stunning wedding dress by Alvina Valenta and everyone was a little obsessed with her head piece by Twigs and Honey (including me!!). The Foundry’s beautiful backyard garden space was in full bloom and the ivy was the perfect shade of green for their wedding party photos.

As the ceremony began, Kim saw Laura for the first time as she walked down the aisle arm and arm with her Father. The couple each wrote their own wedding vows that had everyone wiping their eyes by the time they said “I do”. With the help of their friends, the couple created the copper frame for their ceremony space that Mahir Floral Events dressed up with a detailed floral arrangement. I love how the couples mixed metals, shades of blush, rose gold, and greens for their wedding decor.

Under the clear tent in the garden, guests were invited to dine under the stars. Speeches by the Maid of Honor, Best Men and Laura’s father gave further insight into how deep their love goes and how they are absolutely perfect for each other. I’m so honored to have been part of their incredible day and excited to share some of my favorite wedding photos!

This Gender Neutral Nursery is Singing the Blues

It’s hard to pick a favorite element of this sweet space. Obviously that cute little guy is our #1 but a close second is the bohemian wall hanging by Whisker Row that sets the stage for this gender neutral nursery. Take a tour of this calm and serene room with hints of blue and modern boho details masterminded by Amanda Azarpour.

I designed this neutral baby boy room with the vision of wanting a clean fresh look with a touch of baby blue & boho to give a subtle boyish vibe. I love neutrals and our whole house is decorated with a neutral palette and I knew our baby’s room would follow the same vibe. Neutral tones are relaxing and soothing and something you don’t get sick of. His room is calm and peaceful and perfect for sleep time. He goes in there sometimes alone just to read on his rocking chair and have some alone time. When I was searching for inspiration I saw a lot of neutral nurseries but nothing was really modern and nothing had a boy touch to it. My favorite from the room is the gallery wall. The custom oceans calligraphy piece was something I really wanted hung over his bed and Amanda did a great job making my vision come to life. Another to die for peace is the woven hanging wall art above his changing table – it brings so much life and character to the room and the colors couldn’t have matched more perfectly!

A Minimalist Wedding That Packs a Design Punch

There’s something to the minimalist movement, and this wedding inspiration photographed by Katie Grant and filmed by 503 Films is a perfect case study. Aravella Event Design used clean lines, paired back styling, and neutral color palettes keep the focus on a few, statement details – the hanging floral installation by Zinnia Floral Designs, the intricate beaded gown by Zanzis Bridal Couture, and the almost too stunning to eat cake by Cakes by Ebony. The result? An unforgettable wedding day design.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/237072623 600 338]

The inspiration for this shoot was born from a love of simplicity and texture. The floral installations take centre stage of this editorial with the layering of lush textures to create a fresh, simple, yet stunning backdrop for our couple. The color palette and florals were kept very neutral and fresh, with delicate blooming branches, to allow the design to breathe and not overpower the intricate details of the hand beaded gown and simple tablescape. White tones and minimalistic details were used for the table top, with stonewashed linen, gold flatware, handmade taper holders, and modern menus featuring a delicate floral design.

An Engagement Shoot Straight Out of a Fairytale

Let’s all just go ahead and add “prance around at a French chateau” to our bucket lists right now. One look through these perfect pics by Peter & Veronika and that’s all you’re going to want to do anyways. But how can you take that bucket list item and bump it up a few extra special notches? Have said chateau be the site of your engagement shoot. Pretty amazing, right? Soak up all this fairytale fabulousness right this way!

From Peter & Veronika… Larina and Ross, both living in Hong-Kong, decided to have their dream wedding in the South of France. We scheduled their destination engagement session a day before their Big Day. We found the amazing French Chateau Pichon Baron as a backdrop for the engagement session. France has so many incredible venues and chateaux for your wedding day so it is really difficult to choose one.  Even the road from Bordeaux to Chateau Pichon Baron is called “Les Route Des Chateaux”. When the scans from Richard Photo Lab popped up in the mail we were beyond happy with the results! Larina’s beautiful dress with stylish heels and Ross’ outfit perfectly matched with the chateau and its surroundings.

Rooftop Celebration in the Heart of Downtown Los Angeles

LOVE isn’t a strong enough word to describe just how much we adore this wedding. It has cool, modern decor, an industrial loft backdrop, a rooftop ceremony in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, and the cutest dressed pups to boot. In other words,  there’s a whole lot of goodness tucked inside this celebration coordinated by Argyle Events with florals by Holly Flora. So don’t stop at the wildly gorgeous images captured by This Modern Romance or the film by Life Thru Frames, be sure to get the full vault experience right here.

Brian and I met in a rather colorless uneventful cold east coast night, but somehow this long journey led us from friendship to lovers and eventually settling into their beach home in the sunny west coast of California with our two dogs, Megabyte and Gigabyte. When it came to the start of ‘together forever’, the two of us were rather unfamiliar with where to start, but knew that our wedding would be a collage of everything we love bundled into one very special day. Our Event Producer, Jennifer Wang and Day-of Coordinator, Chris Albanese took our eclectic taste and guided our vision to life. It was a masterpiece. None of this would have been remotely possible without them.

Brian and I knew that we didn’t want a hotel wedding. While I love wine country weddings, it would be a far drive for our guests so we decided to stay in the heart of Los Angeles where it would be convenient for our family and friends coming from near and far. We already had so many guests traveling far from all parts of the world. After all, our beloved family and friends are what is most important to us so we decided to host in the midst of the LA skyline and city lights. Hudson Loft was the perfect space for us. High ceilings, spacious rooms, a midcentury modern feel with a splash of cool. The large glass windows gave us a view of the city lights that shown directly into the reception room as our sweetheart table backdrop.

We opted for an elegant electronic invitation emulating the experience of opening a “traditional” printed invitation from Greenvelope. Greenvelope donates a percentage of every sale to Mountains to Sound, a non-profit organization that maintains forests. A cause dear to us because of our love for mother nature. We hope to leave a greener earth for our future kids.

We chose September because Fall is our favorite season. By then the California heat is lifted but the warm, golden light of the September sun added touches of gold to this special day. We made sure to add touches of gold throughout the wedding. For the open roof top wedding ceremony, the city skyline was our back drop. To help the guests cool off, Pop Up Gelato LA hosted a mini gelato bar featuring some of our favorite flavors.

Brian and I love the great outdoors and wilderness. Something that has really bonded us together. He grew up surfing and I grew up road tripping, backpacking, and camping. So in addition to having a custom surfboard for as our guestbook, we also chose a mixture of earth tones, rare wild flowers, wild rosemary, olive leaves, and lavender to bring back some of the wonderful memories from our favorite trips. Holly Flora, our florist, was so pleasant to work with. She was really able to grasp my eclectic vision and bring it to life.

We landed our caterer rather serendipitously. Brian and I ran into his old childhood friend who happens to be a partner in Fundamental LA – a modern trendy LA restaurant. We had gone thru a slew of bad caterers and had only 2 months left until our wedding. We reached out the next day not knowing if they catered for weddings, but found out they had started a wedding catering business. From there, everything fell into place. Family dinners are an important tradition for us so we went with a Family Style dinner to set the mood of a big warm family gathering, breaking bread, sharing drinks and laughter.

For cake and dessert, we chose our favorite local bakery, Lido Bakery Manhattan Beach. Our cake was a simple 2 tier cake with one layer being berries & cream for the fruit lovers and the other layer, almond rocha, for the chocolate lovers. It was a crowd favorite. The dessert table was full of our regular favorites from Lido – Tarts, pastries, cookies and so much more. Before the night was over, the desserts were all gone, but we had a surprise. The Donut Bar. Donuts have always been our guilty pleasure that we treat ourselves to on the weekends. We decided the wedding wouldn’t be perfect without freshly made donuts with all the toppings you could want.

Our Videographers Anthony Balmeo, Andrew Sy, and Terrill Ong of Life Thru Frames are our dear friends who were also a part of our live band music as well as our drone navigator. A tremendously talented team of videographers, musicians, and editors that turned the wedding into a theatrical production. The video is absolutely stunning and I just have to share it. Their production level surpasses most other videos I’ve seen. Thank you for giving us such a special gift to remember for the many years to come.

Last but not least, I want to mention our photographer. I first came across Stephanie Williams online. I came across her fashion site and the work was so capturing. Our wedding day flew by in a blur and I am only able to reminisce this special day thru her talented lens. She stuck with us all day capturing every detail; every moment. She has made the day even more stunning than I remember it to be and I will cherish these printed memories forever.

How to Incorporate 2018’s Hottest Color Into Your Wedding

While we love a classic wedding in neutral hues, there’s something about a wedding that embraces color that always makes us smile, and Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year is definitely, well, colorful. “A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future,” the company said on its website. Planning your wedding is all about planning for your future, so it seems fitting to include Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year, Ultra Violet, in your wedding plans, but if the deep purple hue is a little too purple for you, take inspiration from one of its sister shades instead!

How To Keep Your Wedding Party Going All Night

Nixing tradition has been a big bridal trend as of late, but quite possibly the biggest tradition we’re seeing left to the wayside is the schedule. Instead of seated dinners and timed speeches, brides and grooms are opting for something a bit more celebratory.

As couples look for new ways to celebrate their nuptials, we chat with Rebecca Steele of Andy Kushner Entertainment Design for some tips on how to keep the party going all night long.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
“For me, it’s all about creating an experience for your guests,” says Steele. “Choosing an entertainment team that listens and understands not only that you want a full-on party, but how to keep the guests involved on the dance floor, all the while maintaining the flow of the entire evening, is key!”

She also suggests talking with your entertainment team about what you’re looking for at the beginning stages of planning. “Since “party-style” means something different to everyone, I always begin with an extensive in-depth conversation with you (and your planner!) to fully understand the details of your wedding in order to craft a personalized experience,” she says.

OPT FOR BUFFET-STYLE
The easiest way to get your guests off the dance floor is by serving a sit-down meal. When you serve a meal, it has to be included in the schedule, and all your guests are instructed to eat at the exact same time. For many of those guests, once they sit down to eat, they may not get back up! Prevent this from happening by opting for buffet-style stations instead. This allows guests to eat on their own time, and keeps the food from getting cold for those who refuse to take off their dancing shoes.

NIX SOME TRADITION
You’re already getting rid of the biggest tradition (the schedule!), so why not take a few more off the list? “The bouquet toss and garter toss are two that tend to take the most time and be the least sentimental of the wedding traditions,” says Steele. “By omitting either or both of these, you can dedicate more time to your party.” Steele adds, “the cake cutting is another tradition that might simply be left out, or have a private cake cutting to allow the party to continue uninterrupted and still get great photos—don’t forget to tell the family so no one important misses it!”

HAVE A TON OF “DANCE TIME”
“A few elements that we see included to help in designing the “party-style” include tipping off your friends, family, and wedding party ahead of time to get on the dance floor right away,” says Steele. “Once everyone is dancing, keep people on the dance floor and standing when you introduce the wedding party and then invite them back halfway through, or after, the first dance, and continue the dancing for another ten or fifteen minutes to set the party tone for the evening. Include dancing between courses and minimize down time—we want to dance, dance, dance!”

Romance and Twinkling Chandeliers on the French Riviera

Nestled in the French Riviera, Chateau Diter played host to the dreamiest destination wedding designed by Laly Rose with planning by AAVA Wedding. See the full gorgeous evening under the stars and twinkling chandeliers all captured by Love Story.

From the Event Planner…Shula and I met a few years ago when I worked on her brother’s wedding that took place in Villefranche-Sur-Mer. Shula and her fiancée (at the time) were based in London but had fallen in love with the French Riviera. At the top of their agenda was a space that would cater for their 250 guests who would be arriving from all over the world. Shula had decided that she wanted her wedding to be curated with a sweet and romantic theme at the heart of it. Both modest people, Shula and Kenny wanted an elegant and sophisticated reception with no expense spared on the comfort and care of each and every one of their guests. The emphasis was put therefore on the finer details that would make for impeccable comfort and enjoyment for their guests at every point throughout the occasion. Besotted with each other, Shula and Kenny opened up their love to us and we were able to share in their magnificent and moving ceremony under the marquee in the gardens of the stunning Chateau Diter. The reception after was held in the secluded cloister gardens, followed by dinner below crystal chandeliers in the 400sq foot tent, which was designed exclusively for their wedding. Not even the clouds that had posed a gentle threat at the close of the ceremony could have disturbed the wonderful moments shared under the stars. This wedding, even with the weight of a very large logistical operation to manage and coordinate (with more than 120 staff involved) and militarily precise planning, ran exceptionally smoothly. This was a wonderful achievement that we were able to share with really beautiful people.

These two may have toured Green Pastures while it was being renovated but they could feel the magic even then. And when it was all set to host their special day, it didn’t disappoint. It was the beautiful backdrop to this rustic elegant Texas wedding, full of burgundies, navy and gold and Pine and Blossom captured a gallery so gorgeous we can’t look away. From the Bride… Kyle and I fell in love with our venue, Green Pastures, from the first day we toured it. We toured when it was under renovations, but believed in the vision and could feel the magic this place held in our city. We booked the very next day. The 19th century property has beautiful oak trees surrounding a Southern charm styled white house, is wonderfully landscaped, and even has peacocks on property. The bonus is that it is in the heart of Austin!

Since the venue brought so much charm and beauty, I wanted the wedding to complement it and not take away from the natural beauty. I envisioned a wedding that is simple and elegant. We had neutral tones, lots of natural greenery, gold picture frames and table decorations, and a pop of burgundy color in the flowers and bridesmaid dresses. The groomsmen wore navy suits with black ties and black shoes to help formalize the event without having them wear black tuxes!

The ceremony was on the front lawn surrounded by oak trees and a string quartet played traditional music as we walked down the aisle. The reception was filled with love and everyone had a great time on the dance floor! It was a perfect evening that my husband and I will never forget.

From Uptown Events & Travel… When Katie reached out to me about helping her with the coordination of her wedding day at Green Pastures, I was absolutely delighted. With such a special history at this venue, I was thrilled to see the place come to life with the beautiful renovations. It couldn’t have been more of a perfect setting for Katie and Kyle! It fit their style seamlessly – natural beauty, Southern charm and elegance. Katie’s centerpieces were simple yet stunning. The color palette showcased the Pantone color of the year – greenery and the pop of burgundy in the bridesmaid dresses and bouquets nicely accented the overall design. Adrien of Pine and Blossom Photography captured the details flawlessly!
