Fashion Forward Bride Says “I Do” in a Truly French Style

You know Greg Finck as the French photographer behind some of our favorite weddings on SMP, and today he’s taking us to the gardens of the Rodin Museum for a day that’s every fashion lover’s dream. It’s a destination wedding featuring an Iowa couple (shout out to my home state!) who brought their style A-game to the streets of Paris with a celebration their guests will never forget. Madame Artisan Fleuriste designed the floral pretties, and you can pin each bouquet, dress and city shot inside The Vault.

From Greg Finck… Shannon and Garrett are both from Iowa and had decided to tie the knot in the City of love. Being a photographer, photography was really important to Shannon and she first contacted me more than a year ago explaining that she wanted to get married in the gardens of the Rodin Museum in Paris. I was immediately seduced by the project as this place is so full of history and magic. This place, tribute to the famous sculptor, is usually used for fashion shows and it was a dream for me to shoot a wedding there.

Shannon and Garrett hired Fete in France for the design and planning, as these girls definitely are the best out there for beautiful weddings in Paris. An elegant ceremony setup took place in the gardens including floral arrangements designed by Madame Artisan Fleuriste, and a few chairs for the 25 guests, including the couple’s close family and friends.

After exchanging vows, it was the time of a photoshoot in the city’s most scenic locations, including a stunning view on the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Alexander III Bridge. Our driver took us to Bagatelle Gardens for a garden cocktail hour and an indoor reception for the perfect night.

What a beautiful Parisian day spent with this lovely American couple!

What Happens When You Fall In Love With Your Best Friend?

Why, you plan an inspiration shoot in Paris of course! With Anouschka Rokebrand behind the lens this darling duo proves that love is in the details (like this sweet lil’ posy). Because even on a foggy morning in the city of lights, the wonderment that is Paris never disappoints. So let’s stroll along with Danitcha and Maxime as they roam the quiet morning streets of Monmartre hand in hand, see it all in The Vault!

From Anouschka RokebrandLast month I traveled to Paris to do some lovely shoots, one of which being this love shoot with Danitcha and Maxime in Monmartre around the Sacre Coeur. Dutch Danitcha met Canadian Maxime in Australia (how international can it get, right?) when Dani was working there after her studies and Maxime had joined his brother there and was finishing up his studies. The connected and became great friends. When Dani wanted to do a bit more traveling after her Australia adventures she traveled to Canada and her and Maxime traveled around Canada together.

After a few months of traveling and having a lot of fun, it was time for Dani to head back home to The Netherlands and they realized they were clearly more than just good friends by now! So Maxime joined her in The Netherlands and they are still going strong! They had never done a professional photoshoot together and how romantic is it to do a shoot in Paris?
Even on a foggy morning Paris does not disappoint and we created a gorgeous shoot together.

For Dani’s outfit we opted for a Carrie Bradshaw type look with a tulle skirt from BHLDN, tanktop and gorgeous handmade lace cover up from one of my favorites, SIBO Designs. SIBO provided the gorgeous headpiece as well. We also brought along a gorgeous hatbox from Trousseau & Co. For Max we went with a classic dark navy suit that gave a wonderful contrast to Dani’s white and blush outfit.

We roamed the streets around the Sacre Coeur and found lovely spots for photos, including a lovely little terrace where we stopped for some hot tea.
Paris is and always will be, a good idea!

Refined French Elegance Inspiration in Côte d’Azur

When a talented duo like Marta Guenzi and Margherita Orlandi  join forces, you know you are in for some seriously good inspiration. And when that inspiration just so happens to take place in none other than the dreamy Côte d’Azur, you just know you have some serious pretty on your hands. Well, it’s our lucky day, folks, because all of the french-inspired lovely is waiting for you here.

From Marta Guenzi PhotographerI designed this wedding inspiration together with Margherita Orlandi, super talented stylist and event creator. We have been inspired by the refined elegance typical of the French Riviera during a business trip we made there: it seemed to us a perfect scenario for a wedding inspiration session! Cap Ferrat is called “the city of flowers”, so we tried to evoke the spirit of that dreamy place, to let people feel the wind and smell the blossoms from the pictures.

Côte d’Azur means little beaches surrounded by nubby maritime pines, rocky cliffs where to admire pink sunsets looking at the seagulls playing in the sky, medieval villages with narrow lanes full of flowers and of old fashioned street lamps, breathtaking panoramas on the sea and on the coast and most of all that kind of romance that France represents worldwide.

We imagined a slow morning awakening of the bride, in a typical French bedroom among bed sheets in toile de Jouy fabric, reading a love letter left on her pillow. Then a walk on the beach with the groom-to-be, a ceremony overlooking the sea and finally an intimate reception to end with a beach party in Villefranche sur Mer.

We decided to set all the moments outdoors, among the wonderful Chateau de La Chèvre d’Or, where we imagined the scene of the ceremony under the little temple, the beach and the cliffs of Cap Ferrat and the old medieval village of Eze Village, where we set the reception table.

As for the bride dresses we wanted something graceful and elegant, made with luxurious fabrics. So together with Silvia and Sara, owners of the atelier La Maison du Mariage, we chose the impalpable fabrics and flattering shapes of the dresses of Leila Hafzi, ethical and eco conscious fashion brand, and the French lace of a cape from Alberta Ferretti. Then we introduced Roma, a brand new collection of romantic and retrò swimsuits thought for the honeymoon, that we imagined for the morning walk on the beach (the intimate bay called Anse des Fossettes, in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat). Roma is a line of costumes conceived for day-dreamer women, designed and created exclusively for La Maison du Mariage, that aims to offer the bride a romantic and sensual vision of one of the honeymoon essentials, the bikini.

Carmelo Spina, the hair stylist and make up artist, thought about a specific hairdo for each scene, always trying to follow the inspiration mood. So for the bikini photos he proposed a high ponytail embellished with a flower and a nude makeup, then for the ceremony he created an up-do with a half braided crown and finally for the beach party he designed the most amazing romantic and messy up-do with a flower crown used like an headband paired with a luminous makeup with a touch of pale blue under the eyes.

From Margherita OrlandiAs soon as I decided to start this project together with the wonderful Marta Guenzi Photographer, my mind began to think about those fascinating places that were to me the perfect inspiration for a shooting full of little details following the fil rouge of the French elegance. For the bouquet and the table flowers we decided, in accordance with Maurizio Buzzi, the flower designer, to work with the bright and pastel colors of peonies, freesias, David Austin roses, buttercups, lilies, eucalyptus and echeveria with their particular silver shade that gave a light tone to the compositions. Then we added some pink grapefruits to achieve a feeling of freshness. We prepared a white little “table for two” that we decorated with a runner in toile de Jouy fabric, one of the most ancient and typical production of French Rivera artisans. We used the leitmotif of toile also for the graphic suite scanning the cloth and extrapolating the drawings to match with the save the date, the map, the menu, the invitations, etc.

I loved planning and coordinating this shooting in one of my soul places and I hope this could inspire couples dreaming to get married in such a wonderful location!

Chateau Wedding in Brittany, France

A chateau wedding in the gorgeous french countryside reads like a complete fairytale to me. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to this very wedding in my day dreams, and it’s such a treat to see just such a day come to life via the talented lens of Sophie Delaveau. It was a day filled with personality and love, and there is so much more pretty waiting for you in the VAULT.

From The Bride…After being together for 20 years, we had planned our wedding in the west coast of France, in Brittany (Bretagne), to celebrate our love and family, and the 10 years of our son Alexandre who was our adorable ring bearer.

Our marriage gave us the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary of 20 years of love. We wanted to show that, even if life is sometimes difficult, we want to continue to strongly grow old together. We wanted this wedding to be intimate with few people, surrounded by our family and people dear to our heart. We imagined our wedding to be romantic, chic, with beautiful flowers. We love flowers, plants, and gardening. We dreamed about a place with character, old stones and woodwork, a quiet place that can suit both grown-ups and little ones, a venue that could seduce everyone. Brittany is full of beautiful castles and manors, and Manoir du Stang, in La Forêt Fouesnant, was our choice for the reception venue.

We organized everything on our own and we did it as we wanted to do it. Maybe not in a traditional way. For example, Christophe was by my side to help me to choose my wedding dress. He always knows what suits me or not. Even if he already saw me with my wedding dress before, he was so moved when he saw me the first time on our wedding day.

We also had quality vendors who gave us advice and helped us live a unique experience and to have a beautiful wedding day. Mademoiselle Anaïs, our floral designer, immediately seized all our desires, including my obsessive desire for symmetry (my two bridesmaids had the same dress in the same green water color and the same crown of flowers).

From our last vacation spent in the south of France, we found love with Mediterranean plants. We wanted to include these warm southern colors through our wedding day. With Melle Anaïs, we opted for tones of orange, coral, pink and green water. For flowers vases, we chose old gold containers. And we chose the theme of Succulent as thread of our design. This lovely succulent plant was everywhere: in our stationery, in the bridal bouquet, in boutonnieres, in bouquets centers tables, decorating the fireplace in the reception room, etc. For the bridal bouquet, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted. I wanted the bouquet to sublimate my dress, like a jewel, it would be adorned with beautiful colors and beautiful satin ribbons. It also had to be made of flowers evoking vivid memories or closed people, such as peony, my mom’s favorite flower.

Our photographer, Sophie, was so considerate towards us throughout the day, we sometimes felt she was part of our family. Like a real little guardian angel, she was ready to deal with everything and took care we didn’t lack anything (example: tissues, bottle of water, small energizing snack for the bride who began to fail). We choose her because we love her work. Her images are divine, so bright, full of sweetness and tenderness. We are still so happy to have wonderful photos of our wedding day.

It took us a year to organize our wedding according to our desire. We loved this whole period of preparations where we were in contact with professionals from very different worlds. All of our guests loved our wedding day and said it was so US. They were particularly impressed by the venue, by the small details of decoration and especially by flowers. For us, it was really a beautiful and unique adventure made of meetings, discussions and reflections which we had to continually be proactive, patience and above all…LOVE of course!

Pastel Filled Autumn Wedding in Burgundy France

What could possible be better than a pastel filled wedding at a Chateau in the always stunning Burgundy, France? That’s right, nothing. Especially when said celebration includes French Grey Events officiating and French Grey Photography behind the lens capturing every moment of merriment. It’s a wedding that we’re completely obsessed with and you can see it all in The Vault!

From the Bride…I started dress shopping by going to a few appointments with my Mum and Sister in Perth, Australia and whilst holidaying in Melbourne. After a few viewings I still hadn’t yet found the “one”. I ended up getting a last minute appointment on a Saturday due to a cancellation at Brides by Design in Perth. As soon as I walked in, I was taken by a dress hanging on the rack because of the lovely champagne colour (I didn’t want traditional “white” dress) I tried it on & after discussing with the dress maker about a few alterations, I had found the one!! As I was by myself, I was a bit nervous about making such a decision so I remember skyping my Mum from the changing room for her opinion. After her hearing my voice and enthusiasm she told me to go for it! My dress was made from 100% raw silk and I really enjoyed the simple yet elegant style of it. It was also so light and easy to wear.

From the couple…We were introduced through a close friend of mine at the end of 2007. We then spent the following year getting to know each other and becoming good friends. It was at the start of 2009 when we went on a 5 week holiday together to Africa when the relationship became more serious. Dan had done a bit of travelling before but that trip was only my second time overseas so it was very exciting. After that holiday we realised we both shared a love of travel and we spent the next couple of years going on as many holidays as we could fit in. It was on a trip to France in 2010 that we fell in love with the Burgundy area in the French countryside. It wasn’t until a year later that we got engaged in a beautiful spot on a trip to Bali with our families. Immediately afterwards we both discussed our thoughts on wedding ideas and a destination wedding in France was what we both said we would like. We decided we wanted a smaller, relaxed wedding with only our immediate family and close friends and we achieved that and only had 35 people on the day. It felt lovely and intimate and by having it small, it meant we had more time to spend with each of the guests. The “vision” for the wedding was for us to have good food, good wine and to enjoy in a fun party with everyone.

The day had a very relaxed start with getting ready. We enjoyed some Champagne and had a nice time together with my sister (bridesmaid) and mum whilst getting ready. She wore a coral coloured bodice and skirt. I chose coral as a colour scheme and the florist worked so well with adding in a variety of softer colours into the flowers for the day. I loved the flowers so much!

A Springtime French Chateau Wedding

Call me a Francophile, call me a wannabe, but my love of all things French weddings runs deep. Luckily this Bride shares those feelings and set out to plan a destination wedding her guests would remember forever. Once she found the venue, Chateau La Durantie while Internet browsing on her lunch break (see: How to Wedding Plan and Keep a Full-Time Job) the rest fell right into place. Caught The Light came along to capture, and The Vault is your got-to for every last bit.

From The Bride…Sitting here trying to write about the happiest day of my life has created both a mixture of writer’s block and the potential for a novel. There aren’t words to truly describe how incredible you feel the day you wake up and realize you are about to marry your best friend and for all your favorite people in the world to share this with you.

I was never one who dreamed of my wedding as such, but the evening Tim got down on one knee and I realized what was happening after a decade together, I was in shock! Not only for the proposal but at how eventually my inner bride-to-be was unleashed. Working as a Personal Assistant with a background in art, I felt I was fully equipped for the job but wow Wedding Planning in my opinion, is a full time job (especially for you fellow perfectionists out there). What an incredible job it is!

Having shared so much already, both experiences and friends, it was easy for us both to agree on ultimately what the main word for our special day was to be centered around: FUN. We weren’t necessarily interested in themes as such, but I knew in my heart growing up with a mother whose love for flowers was infatuating, that flowers had to be a major star of the show. Spring and the month of May was decided pretty much instantly and off we went, driving around my favorite area of the UK (Devon) and actually where we had got engaged that Boxing Day. We focused ultimately around the idea of the day having the potential to be a long weekend and as I began turning into a Pinterest addict, I realized very quickly how I longed for a romantic and floral wedding in a setting that had grounds and space, but not overly fancy. Nothing seemed to hit the mark until on a fleeting visit, one of Tim’s ushers remarked that he had always imagined us getting married abroad in Europe. Tim and I looked at each other and that was it, Bonjour France! (Tim had lived and worked there for two years whilst I am a full-blown Francophile). A long weekend for our nearest and dearest, guaranteed sun, good food and no stress! (…little did we know!).

When Chateau la Durantie appeared on my screen one lunch break at work I gasped – with only two dates remaining that year, we secured our May Bank Holiday weekend without even visiting! When we did visit a few weeks later, it was love. The Chateau (I felt like Belle from Beauty and the Beast when we entered), the stunning grounds, vineyards, it was perfect. We could totally envisage the garden party style setting that felt like a home from home (the accommodation on site hosts up to around 45!). The planning from them on in terms of colors, décor, flowers, small touches was easy. The building and grounds were so stunning I did not want to be overly fussy and fight with its beauty, but compliment it. Lisa from French Flower Style just knew exactly what my mother and I were thinking when we talked flowers: lily of the valley made up my whole bouquet and was heavily featured all over the venue and in our marquee. I kept the color simple, just white and green and well, romantically fresh I guess? We had stunning displays wrapped around the marquee poles and clusters of spring flowers placed in vases all over. When we walked into the marquee the smell was incredible and I can honestly say it was unbelievably stunning. Lisa really was my flower godmother. I kept the tables classic again with mirrored centre pieces, sprigs of rosemary, and stationery in grey and white with hand written calligraphy place cards. We had small mirror hearts hanging on the chairs and small crystals to echo to beautiful marquee chandeliers dotted around too.

Coupled with flowers and an open bar (ha!), from very early on in the planning stage photography was an incredibly important element for us. I had stumbled across Chloe Browne pretty much within week one and had fallen in love with her stunning style of capturing emotions, details, just love in general. When we met up I fell in love even more. Both Tim and I are not the most naturally relaxed in front of the camera, so not only did we want that perfect person to capture our story, but to also laugh with us and feel like a friend. Chloe did not only do that, but also kept our spirits high and smiles beaming through the bad luck we had with weather. The day before the wedding when we had to set up, it was pretty much a monsoon. The day of our wedding started with cloud and then rain. However, I want to reassure you brides-to-be that this does not mean disaster! No lie, we had not prepped AT ALL for rain, being slightly naïve to the fact that actually the Dordogne region of France is very similar to the UK (rain was likely). My vision of drinks, canapés, garden games and speeches on the grounds was stolen, but this in turn allowed for everyone to stay together, to mingle, laugh and to actually take in the beauty of the Chateau. I also think we have some really unique and special photos with the rain (huge thanks to my wonderful mother for using her head and stocking up on pretty white brollies). I can hand on heart say it did not change anything about the day, I honestly believe it made it even more fun – I don’t think either of us have smiled or laughed more and the whole day I felt like I could burst with love.

I could literally carry on writing and re-living every gorgeous detail from our day, but I will end with some of my favorite and unforgettable moments. Ladies, cherish the one on one intimate moments you share together – I felt like we were the only people in the world when we were sat together with our Priest at the front of the church, it really is magical. Then again when we journeyed from the church to the venue, squashed into our classic car together, champagne in hand, rain lashing down but giggling and feeling on cloud 9 together tucked in the back. Those were the times that I remember so vividly from the day. I also could not believe how calm I was on the day (I put this down to bridesmaid dresses getting lost en route prior to fittings and French Air traffic Control strikes threatening to cause the whole wedding to be unable to attend!) so getting ready with my mum and best friends in the morning really was special. The look on my father’s face when he came to meet me, the FOB speech which had not only me but grown men sobbing, when both Tim and I slipped down the stairs outside of the church, and our first dance to ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ by Coldplay as Tim free-styled to the max and our lack of any pre dance planning showed (I can hands down say it was the best first dance in the history of first dances, thank goodness Tim did not get his way with his suggestion of ‘I’m a Scatman’).

Any advice? Be wise and always have a plan B for rain mainly to avoid last minute stresses in itinerary updates. Don’t be afraid to ask for help – you are going to need it whether you want it or not! Remember, these are literally your most loved friends and family, they will cherish being involved. However do not worry about a thing as whatever happens, it really is the perfect day. And if you do have a mini meltdown the night before? Make sure you have solid bridesmaids like myself equipped with cucumber slices and reassuring words (such as ‘what would Beyonce do?’)

Classic + Romantic Paris Elopement

As Audrey Hepburn famously said, “Paris is always a good idea,” (especially for a romantic elopement). With a Bride and Groom as gorgeous as the city itself, a stunning Karen Willis Holmes wedding dress, a classic tuxedo, a DIY bouquet and the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop, this duo began their happily ever after in the chicest style. See all the pretty from French Grey Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…After my fiance and I were engaged, we started talking about the kind of wedding that we would like to have. When we agreed to spend the rest of our lives together, we promised each other that we would embrace adventure, cultivate romance, and put our relationship/marriage first even if that meant taking an unconventional route at times. We desired a wedding that would personal, intimate, meaningful, and, honestly, not so stressful/caught up in the details that we missed the real meaning of the day. Having a small, intimate ceremony in Paris – the city of love – simply made sense. We’re pretty sure that left a part of our hearts in that city and we look forward to returning many times…someday with our children :)

I gravitate to the timeless and classy. When my now-husband went shopping for his tux, he asked me if I had any tips/requests. I said that if it looked like something Cary Grant would wear, I would approve. In the end, I think he looked more like James Bond in a tux and I wasn’t at all disappointed ;-) For my dress, I was looking for a timeless, classy piece that was both simple and glamorous. I kind of have a test for the “classy/timeless” – if the dress looks like something Grace Kelly could have worn and I could conceivably wear it again in 20 years, it’s golden. Indeed, the Anya definitely passed that test.

In addition to the classy/timeless/glamorous inspiration, I wanted the wedding to have important personal touches. This is why I opted to arrange my own bouquet (details below) rather than paying for one to be made. Wanting personal touches was also reflected in my choice of earrings, the only jewelry I wore. We also wrote our vows on hotel stationary the night before the wedding – I’m actually working now to find the perfect frame so that we can hang them in our bedroom.

My dress was by Karen Willis Holmes. I absolutely adore the designer! I bought the dress at the KWH bouquet in NYC and the staff were just as lovely as the dress. I had never worn a sequin or anything sparkly in my life, but I just fell in love with the elegance & timeless simplicity of the gown. My goal is to be able to wear it again in 20 years when we renew our vows :) In Paris, of course :) We’ll look you up!

My shoes were Steve Madden and I am happy to report that they have survived 6+ months without being eaten/torn apart by our dear 1 year old golden retriever, Charli :)

I opted to keep my jewelry simple & sentimental. I’m a “less is more” kind of girl, so I thought that the dress had enough sparkle on its own. As a result, I only wore earrings – no necklace or bracelet. The earrings were a gift from my darling sister – another reason why I chose to wear them. I’m all about the meaningful little details :)

I adore flowers – I always try to have fresh flowers in our home. So I was excited to be in a city like Paris that celebrates & appreciates beautiful fresh flowers. I had planned to go to little flower market to pick out flowers to arrange, but I admit that the streets of Paris drew me in on that first day and I completely lost track of time. It was after 10PM on the night before our wedding that I realized that I had forgotten to pick up flowers. My wonderful friend, Rebekah, tracked down a 24 hour flower shop and offered to pick up some flowers for me to arrange. Only in Paris would there be a flowers shop open 24 hours a day! I arranged the bouquet moments before we said I do. I absolutely adored it – simple, natural, classic. Peonies & lavender will always remind of that beautiful day in Paris.

Elegant Sea-Inspired Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the colors of the sea, these pics by Ingrid Lepan, captured at her French Riviera workshop, have me eager to book my own getaway to this magical coast. But in order to recreate this ethereal beauty, I’m going to need to wrangle up the talented team of Les Ciseaux De Marie, Nice Plume, Wanderlust Wedding and D’amour Et De Deco, so until I’m able to arrange all that, I’m satisfied to sit tight in this Vault gallery – and may just be watching Pocket-Film’s clip on repeat. Join me this way!

Colors

From Ingrid LepanI asked Vanessa from D’amour et De Déco, for my professional photography workshop, for elegant and refined decoration, that would come close to the colours of the sea, that is why we have a declination of different blues. A harmonious and aerial unity, with the choice of a fluid dress, always keeping in vision this gentleness. Beaulieu was chosen because it is a small town barely known but perfectly represents the French Riviera.

Our next workshop will be announced April 25, 26 and 27, 2016, and more information can be found here!

Retro Chic Swing + Jazz-Themed Wedding in the French Countryside

This wedding is full of all of my favorite things: a beautiful lace wedding gown, adorable little French children, beautiful blossoms, scrumptious sweets and a gorgeous couple madly in love. Complete with a jazz theme (the couple took swing lessons to prepare for their big day!) and a summery palette, this day came together in the loveliest way. See it all from Anne-Claire Brun in The Vault!

From Anne-Claire BrunI loved this wedding! I had never seen this theme before and everything was so beautifully crafted! Maxime and Chloé are two amazing people and so in love that the whole day felt unreal :)

From The Bride…Maxime and I met in High School. My best friend was dating one of Maxime’s friends and decided to play matchmaker! We kept our relationship going, even when Maxime was abroad and all throughout our studies. Years later, we were traveling in Stockholm, in October. For my birthday, Maxime took me to the botanical garden, a magical place! We had afternoon tea on an outside table with dozens of small birds surrounding us. We then wandered around the garden in the late sunny afternoon. I was standing on a tree trunk with Maxime’s arms around me when he told me he was ready to commit and proposed to me. I remember the sunset on the water so vividly, it was perfect!

For a year and a half, we were both really invested in the wedding. We took lessons of Lindy Hop every week to learn the basics of the dance and then private ones to learn a choreography on the song “Sing Sing Sing” from Benny Goodman. We spent so many week ends working on the wedding! It was intense but those moments brought us closer together.

The style of the wedding was retro-chic 20s swing and jazz. We went to flea markets to find items for table decorations and the candy bar. The tables names were jazz singers’ names, the invitations art deco and I was wearing an old style comb through my hair. The color theme was grey blue, nude and gold. We decorated Napoleon chairs with grey blue, white and nude ribbons. Maxime’s groomsmen wore a blue grey bow tie and my bridesmaids wore nude and gold. I found a gorgeous 20s style dress whose bottom was entirely embroidered with pearls for my sister. Also, I designed the tote bag for all the women at the wedding. The bag read “Swing your day” and we chose the colors to make them look vintage.

We also wanted a touch of nature so we had the bag made in canvas, kraft paper and wild flowers. Many elements were homemade like the photo booth accessories entirely made by my sister, the signs crafted by Maxime’s dad, the frames and the table plans found and painted by my mom… We also found the fabric for the table runners and the bridesmaids dresses that we then had put together by a dressmaker.

We wanted a cozy place with a lot of character and this old farmhouse with its beautiful barn and backyard was perfect!

During the wedding day, I really enjoyed getting ready with my mom and my sister. It was a moment of feminine complicity and it felt magic! Maxime and I loved the moment when it was just the two of us, right after the ceremony, in the vintage car. Also, our friends and cousins prepared a surprise for us: they did an amusing take on a fashion show and they paraded in front of everyone wearing funny clothes.

For the music, we had: the entrance into the church: “A Chloris” from Reynaldo Hahn sang by a mezzo soprano friend (she suggested the song and we found it beautiful.), the exit from the church: ” La Valse d’Amelie” from Yann Tiersen used in the french movie “Amelie” and that is so meaningful to us the first dance: our choreography on “Lindy Hop Sing Sing Sing” by Benny Goodman (we didn’t want a traditional waltz and we loved the enthusiasm and joy that the song inspired! It went perfectly with the theme of the wedding!).

If I had any advice for the couples preparing their wedding now, it would be to not be too stressed on the wedding day (I know it easier said than done!) but it’s important in order to fully live the emotions of the day.

Luxurious Parisian Wedding Inspiration

I struggled to narrow down the adjectives to describe this shoot; it’s glam, yet elegant, ethereal yet simply romantic and inviting. Either way, it’s what we call a winner. Captured at The Belle Arte Workshop hosted by event planner Cynthia Martyn Events in Paris by Katie Stoops,  these pics have us wishing upon our lucky stars for an invite (from Seniman Calligraphy, The Wise Creative or Written Word Calligraphy perhaps?) to a French fete as fabulous as this. Just a little forewarning though: the rest of your Friday will be spent in our Vault right here.

From Katie Stoops Photography… This is a styled shoot that came out of The Belle Arte Workshop. Timeless Late Summer Engagement Session in Paris

Guillermina and Ben’s e-sesh is essentially what our daydreams are made of. A french inspired scene complete with a pretty pink gown and stellar views, it’s surely to be your new favorite too. French Grey Photography captured these sweethearts to share and we’ve got it all in THE VAULT!

From the Bride-to-be… Ben and I met in 2007 while we were both studying abroad on Semester at Sea, a three month long program where we circumnavigated the globe. Once back in the U.S., Ben went to California and I returned to Miami. We dated long distance for two and a half years, then Ben moved to Miami. Fast forwarding to Christmas 2014, Ben surprised me with a ski vacation in Aspen. As you can guess, he proposed in Aspen, while we were having wine and hanging out by the fireplace. It was very intimate and I was caught completely off guard. We only called our parents that night, and we savored the moment by getting dressed up and going out to a romantic dinner to celebrate.

I was having a hard time finding a wedding venue that really excited me. I knew I preferred a destination wedding, but nothing seemed perfect until I came across a French chateau wedding. From then on, wedding planning became more fun than stressful, so I knew this was what I wanted my wedding to mimic. I looked at various places in the U.S. that had the same style, but it wasn’t the same. We finally decided to go for the real thing, and we booked flights to Paris to check out the venue I had fallen in love with.
While researching French wedding everything, I came across some of the most beautiful engagement pictures I had ever seen, by French Grey Photography. I fell in love with the lighting and the elegance of Brian’s photography. Ben and I booked a session, happy to know that even if we didn’t have our wedding in France, we’d have great pictures and memories of our time in Paris. We were both surprised as to how much fun the shoot was, and are in love with the pictures.

French Garden Elopement Inspiration in Giverny

Just when I thought my uhb-session with all things french was manageable, this shoot comes along. A shoot filled with soft blues, warm peach hues, seasonal ModFete florals, and the ultimate elopement, but better yet? It all took place at the ideal cottage in Monet’s (yes THE MONET!) quaint town Giverny and I’m convinced I need to move there tout de suite. Kibogo Photography captured it all and we can relish it together in THE VAULT!

From Katelyn of ModFeteWe wanted this shoot to embody the rustic elegance that we found in the historic cottage garden where this took place. I was inspired by soft French blues and the warm peach tones in seasonal fruit and flowers. The table linens, foraged floral and silk ribbon I used were a complement to the organic nature of our surroundings, while the tableware, wardrobe and calligraphy gave a nod to Parisian sophistication. The cottage in Monet’s home town Giverny provided a beautiful backdrop for the table which we envisioned to be the perfect setting for an intimate garden celebration.

Elegant Paris Elopement

I love love loved my wedding, but if we were able to do another one? We’d jet off to somewhere fabulous and do something like these two here. Thanks to Celebrant in Paris, they said their vows before just one another and then took a walking tour of Paris with Le Secret D’Audrey capturing every romantic moment. How can you not absolutely love them? Get inspired in our VAULT right this way!

From Le Secret D’Audrey… Ella and Jordan chose Paris to say “I do” on the Bridge Alexandre III overlooking the Eiffel Tower. What a lovely day it was. They got ready together in a picturesque French apartment, shared a macaron cake and wandered the streets of Paris for couple photos in the City of Love.

From the Bride and Groom… Although we went to different universities, we both grew up in the Bay Area. We were fortunately brought together by mutual friends. We have been to 15+ weddings in the last two years and have had enough of traditional ceremonies and banquets. When Ella came across Audrey’s photos, she fell in love with her work. She pointed to one of her pictures, that this is exactly what she wanted; an elopement for us. Planning the elopement was stressful finding vendors in another country initially, but with the help of internet, we were able to find all the makeup, hair, and cinematographers that fit our elopement imagination.

Surprise Strasbourg France Proposal

Thank you Annamarie Akins, because after seeing (and saving and sharing) these pics, Strasbourg has now earned a spot on my must-see-ASAP list. Add in the surprise proposal you captured and this is a post to be favorited and returned to anytime you need a happiness boost; I promise it’ll do the trick. Dive headfirst into our VAULT and thank me later.

From Annamarie Akins… It was definitely one of the most exciting secrets I’ve ever had to keep! The Saturday before I left for Europe, Brittany and I were shooting a wedding together in DC… she’s become one of my dear friends and lucky for me, she’s my second shooter most weekends! I was leaving for my trip the next day and she was leaving a few days after that… and little did she know that she was about to be engaged! Jeremy had contacted me a few weeks beforehand with the news that he wanted to propose while they were on their vacation in France with a ring from his grandmother… and as you can imagine, I was so excited!

Brittany and I had been talking about meeting up for a photo shoot while we were there for months… so after talking with Jeremy, it was easy to turn the photo shoot idea into the perfect secret proposal plan! They were staying in Paris and we were spending time with my family near Munich… but I have an old friend who was living in Strasbourg for the summer, which is a beautiful city on the water in the Alsace region of France, right on the border next to Germany! This place looks like Germany and France had a baby that kind of resembles Venice. It’s absolutely beautiful! And I couldn’t picture a better place for a photo shoot turned proposal… so we made plans to meet there a few days into our trip to do the shoot and visit my friend!

Jeremy and I decided on a code word so that when I found a good spot for him to propose [based on the lighting and where people wouldn’t be in the background of the photos], it would be easy to let him know to go for it. Finally after walking around and shooting for an hour, I decided we had found the spot! I was so nervous (this was the first time I’d captured a proposal!), but he seemed totally calm and the whole thing went perfectly! Brittany was so surprised and excited! And we were all on cloud nine and celebrated with champagne at the sweetest little cafe afterwards!

Jeremy and Brittany are such an incredible couple and I am so excited for them to get married! It was such an honor to get to be a part of this special moment… I hope you enjoy my favorites from their shoot and the surprise proposal!

Rustic + Romantic Provence Wedding At Home

Close your eyes and imagine marrying in the beyond beautiful South of France… and now open your eyes and see it all right here before you, because it’s all actually real. These two said “I do” at her parent’s summer home, overflowing with bright light, blooms and smiles, thanks to the talents of D’amour et de déco and some super pretty creations by Nice Plume. Sebastien Hubner captured it all – find this goodness and more in our VAULT right this way!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/142448247 600 338]

From the Bride… We had been together for twelve years when we decided to get married. We were spending the weekend in Biarritz, in the South of France. At sunset, we sat on top of a cliff to enjoy the amazing view and that is the moment he picked to propose. I will forever remember this sunset as the most beautiful one I have ever seen.

We decided to get married in my parents’ summer house in the South of France, near Nice. We wanted a personal, romantic, and intimate wedding and that was the perfect location. However it was quite challenging to organize a wedding in a house that is not supposed to be a wedding venue. It was a lot of work but in the end we managed it perfectly, and we found extremely talented people to help us, such as Vanessa and Mathilde from D’amour et de Déco who really did an amazing work with all the flowers.

When starting to plan the wedding, researching a photographer was one of the first thing we did. It was extremely important to us to find the right photographer, the one that would capture all the memories of this very special day in an authentic and beautiful way. When we looked at Sebastien’s portfolio we immediately fell in love with the beauty and the softness of his pictures. Sebastien arrived at the venue a few hours before the wedding. And from that moment until the end of the wedding, Sebastien’s presence was like a gift. We will never forget his soft and soothing presence, his kindness, his smile, and his great professionalism. Thanks to his incredible discretion he really captured natural pictures of us, our family and friends. Asking Sebastien to work on our wedding was definitely one of the best decisions we made. We couldn’t be happier with the way our pictures turned out. Every picture captures the emotions of our wedding in the most beautiful way.

In terms of emotions, the highlight of the day was the ceremony in the garden. We wanted our ceremony to be personal and intimate. We spent weeks preparing it. Every detail had to be an authentic reflection of our personalities and love: from the songs we picked, to the flowers we chose, from the readings we selected to the vows we had written to each other. From the beginning of the ceremony until the end the emotion was incredibly high. I think that all our guests felt they were part of a very special moment in our lives. It is something we will remember forever.

Preparing a wedding is wonderful but it can also be extremely stressful. Keep in mind that the most important thing is that you will get to marry the love of your life, surrounded by the people that you love and that love you in return. If you are a control freak (like me) prepare as much as you want before the wedding, but on D-day just let it go and enjoy your day!

Modern Gatsby-Inspired French Wedding + Sparkly Gold Dress

When you decide to say your I do’s at a charming French Chateau in modern Gatsby-Inspired style, a gold dress like this one? Well, it only makes sense to rock a beauty like that. And the Bride? She got that “red carpet worthy” look she wanted, and oh does she glow. With planning by Fête In France, the entire day (including a fireworks display!) went off without a hitch and Lauren Michelle captured all moments that live in THE VAULT.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/136961936 600 338]

From Fête In FranceFrom the beginning Krystal knew that she wanted a modern take on a Gatsby-inspired wedding. With this in mind we set out to make the entire reception sparkle with crystal chandeliers and spheres installed for the occasion, transparent Starck chairs and custom gold sequins table linens. The floral arrangements incorporated crystal vases and pink feathers to add even more glamour to the affair. The design theme was given its final flair by hand-painted signage Gatsby fonts done by the very talented Studio French Blue.

From the Bride… In hindsight the word that our friends and family most commonly use to describe our wedding is a “fairytale”. I certainly did not set out with that ambition and in fact I never had a “dream wedding”, but sometimes the best things in life are unexpected and surprising.

Rob and I were an unlikely couple. Having grown up on opposite sides of the world and from vastly different cultural backgrounds, it was inconceivable that our paths would cross. However, fate or providence had other plans in store for us. Our careers brought us to Hong Kong and it was in this city, a place we now call home, where our lives would be changed forever. I remember the night we met, a chilly evening in January 2011. I was out with a few friends when I bumped into a colleague at a local bar. I distinctly remember his instructions, “don’t move, there is someone I want you to meet”.

I was immediately drawn to Rob’s confidence, boyish charm and warm smile, though in that moment I never expected that he would eventually become my best friend and life partner. Over the years we have had the opportunity to travel the world together, sharing many adventures and new experiences. It was on one such trip, in a secluded bay along the Great Ocean Road in Australia, where Rob asked me to marry him. It was without a doubt that I said yes.

Coming from a large family, Rob had always envisaged having a big, traditional wedding. On the other hand, I was a reluctant bride and had always imagined eloping. After much debate and consideration we finally agreed to host an intimate affair.

Three things were a certainty – it would be a destination wedding, we wanted a huge party with our families and best friends, and Lauren Michelle would be our photographer. I knew Lauren from growing up in Sydney and have always been in awe of her talent. Whilst our careers have taken us to different parts of the world, I could not have trusted anyone more to capture the love, spirit and style of our wedding.

As for the dress – I wanted to look “red carpet worthy” on the big day. When I met Noel Chu for our initial consultation I was yet to try on a single wedding dress. However, based on Noel’s extensive portfolio I was confident she would bring my vision to life. I worked with Noel for a year to design, create and refine this couture gown. With each bead, sequin and crystal sewn by hand, her craftsmanship and the final product truly exceeded all expectations.

After narrowing our search for venues to France, Chateau De Varennes was recommended by a close friend. After doing some research online and speaking to Sonia, I felt completely at ease and knew this was the place for us. Varennes was the first and only venue we considered. With guests travelling from four continents, we wanted to make their trip memorable and be able to spend quality time with all our loved ones. I knew that planning a wedding from a different country and time zone would be a challenge so I enlisted the support of Fete in France. Anne led us through every step of the process, including styling and planning 4 days of events.

We commenced the celebrations with a Rehearsal Dinner in the idyllic town of Beaune on Thursday and enjoyed a bicycle and wine tour through picturesque Burgundy vineyards on Friday morning. Most of our guests arrived for the Welcome Dinner on Friday evening followed by the wedding on Saturday, both hosted at Chateau De Varennes. On Sunday we had a casual and relaxed brunch at a local hostellerie before bidding our guests farewell.

One of the most distinctive parts of the wedding was the ceremony. Pierre-Henri from Gracefully invested several months into crafting and delivering a personalised ceremony that deeply reflected our characters, background, cultures, beliefs and values. He had many creative ideas to ensure our ceremony was unique and engaged our family and friends. Rob and I each selected a close friend to share their perspectives on our relationship and the impact we’ve had on one another. It was heartwarming and also very entertaining. The ring ceremony was also a highlight. Prior to the exchange of rings, the rings were passed around our guests and each had to say one word to celebrate our union. There were definitely some surprises and many laughs shared.

The most spectacular moment of the wedding was the fireworks display. The fireworks were a hit with the guests and there are few times in our relationship where I have seen Rob more excited. They certainly set the tone for the dancing and late night party that followed. We are so thankful to our guests for not only making the journey but bringing the party to Burgundy (you know everyone is there to have a good time when all the tequila is gone by 8pm)! The photos and video perfectly capture the essence of our wedding and bring back many special memories. We hope you enjoy sharing them with us.
