Elegant Villa Wedding on a Rainy Austin Day

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, and I think this rainy Austin wedding proves it because this couple lucked out with one truly gorgeous day. Planned by the lovely Pearl Events, every detail about this day is special thanks to incredible vendors like Austin CateringMarquee Rents, and Polkadots Cupcake Factory. See all the beauty captured by Tracy Enoch Photography in THE VAULT!

From Tracy Enoch PhotographyTaking place at the beautiful Villa Del Lago in Austin, Texas, Sasha and Shea’s wedding weekend began with a historic rain and flood event. Their initial plans called for an outdoor sunset ceremony overlooking breathtaking Lake Travis, with an outdoor dinner reception underneath cafe lights followed by dancing in the covered pavilion. Sasha and Shea didn’t miss a beat as plans changed and they embraced the weather, and the end result was a beautiful, cozy wedding set in the picturesque Texas hill country. As the rain finally cleared, the night concluded with a fireworks show that the groom orchestrated to surprise his new bride.

Glamorous + Classic Vineyard Wedding

You know we love a good DIY and this time around it’s Marta and Giovanni turn to show us what they’ve got. From collecting vintage vases for florals to everything in between, this pair literally did it all and it’s nothing short of inspiring. Laura Rowe Photography captured it all as we witness their boho chic vision come to life and you can see the results first hand in THE VAULT!

From Laura Rowe PhotographyFrom the moment I met Marta and Giovanni, I was determined to not simply photograph them, but to authentically tell their story. Two ordinary people with an extraordinary love. Their chemistry is addicting, and passion undeniable. They simply get lost in on another and it’s a beautiful thing to witness. Their wedding day reflected their romantic, earthy and organic demeanors, with every element carefully thought out and designed by the bride herself. This was by far one of my most cherished weddings from the season, and I’m grateful to have been invited into their lives to help celebrate their love.

From the Bride… Since weddings are so costly, I was determined to complete and design everything (or as much as I could) myself. From designing and creating our wedding invitation, to picking out fabric and designing each of my bridesmaids dresses, to collecting 200+ vintage vases for my flowers, to designing favor labels and tying each mini jar with beautiful classic grey fabric, to designing and creating the menu cards and table numbers, to hunting down a beautiful large antique frame for seating arrangements – I did it all – and of course I couldn’t do it without the help of my mom and beautiful bridesmaids. This was by far, the largest project/event I’d ever had to coordinate and I was determined to make every detail perfect and in sync with my natural, organic-boho vision.

I was eager to stray far away from the ordinary! Not that ordinary isn’t beautiful – but bridal just wasn’t me ! I was eager to be unique. I pictured a simplistic natural wood barn, loose, fresh-from-the-garden romantic flower arrangements, our closest family and friends, and a whole lot of dancing. And though I never managed to gain my dream barn wedding due to some unexpected issues with my venue, I couldn’t have asked for a better and more perfect day.

I opted for a very soft, natural and simplistic colour palate – white, linen grey, dusty rose, & soft champagne. My style vision was combination of feminine, delicate & natural boho-chic. Every detail was a DIY project to be honest. I spent countless hours organizing, collecting, designing, and crafting.

I was dreaming in wild flowers, and a Fine Medley did an amazing job at making my vision and style come to life in my bouquet and flower crown. (I’d wear a flower crown every day, all day if I could!) I’ve dried both my crown and bouquet as a keepsake and both pieces still look beautiful. When choosing by gown, I had a tough time finding something unique, that wasn’t too ‘bridal’. My maid of honor came to countless dress appointments, until I finally stumbled upon this Tarik Ediz gown. With only few minor tweaks – it was right up my alley!

When it came to selecting favors, we wanted to give our guests something they could put to use – and so we opted for organic maple syrup from Quebec, Ontario! Because let’s get serious – who doesn’t love a good dose of yummy maple syrup? I found small little jars, which we then draped in soft linen grey fabric. We added lavender greens for a natural accent.

My favorite moment was honoring and dancing with my grandmother, who in her late age endured traveling from Poland to spend this special day with me. My favorite childhood memories come from spending summers in Poland with my grandparents. I wanted to express how thankful I was to my grandparents for their love, support and kindness. It’s the one dance I will never forget.

If I could lend other brides some advice while planning, it would be to follow through on your vision despite how challenging it can be. If you’re determined to put a personal twist on each detail – do it. But in the end, remember to be mindful about what the day is really all about.

Elegant Urban Wedding in Chicago at Prairie Productions

For as long as I have been writing about weddings, I know one thing – Chicago just gets it. They know how to do city chic in a way that is fun and approachable, and weddings in the windy city always make me wish I made the guest list. Sprinkle in the talents of The Ideal Day and Field & Florist with amazing photography from averyhouse, and we’ve all struck city wedding gold.

From averyhouseA wedding venue that truly reflects a couple’s personality is such a joy for us to photograph. Case in point, the chic, sophisticated, and wonderfully bright space that is Prairie Production. Meeting Julia + Phil and witnessing the love that they share is absolutely a breath of fresh air and now we can understand exactly why they chose Prairie Production as the location for their vows and (let’s be serious) all out dance party. We fell for Julia + Phil when they told us their story of having lived apart for WAY too long and finally moving in together in Chicago’s West Loop. When we asked what one of their favorite memories was while shooting their West Loop Engagement Session their answer was that it wasn’t necessarily a memory, but a favorite spot-their patio. The same patio that has since hosted dinners with friends + family and important discussions with moscow mule in hand. It only makes sense that Julia and Phil would have their first look on the Public Hotel rooftop with sweeping views of the city before heading to the lush Lurie Garden for photos with their wedding party. Shortly after we were whisked off to Prairie Production for a tear jerker ceremony (we cried too!) and enough champagne to feed a small army. We can pretty much promise that with one look at Julia + Phil’s beautifully elegant wedding and you’ll fall hard for them too.

Classic Nature-Inspired BayVue Estate Virginia Wedding

You can’t go wrong with simple elegance and classic beauty—this bayside Virginia wedding is proof. With beautiful Alfred Sung bridesmaids’ dresses from Weddington Way in the prettiest shade of lilac-gray to the soft florals and abundant greenery to the estate antiques, this day proves classic will never go out of style. See all the pretty from Shannon Moffit in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/144952328 600 338]

From Shannon Moffit PhotographyThe quiet and secluded setting of BayVue Estate was the perfect location for Alyssa and Sam’s waterside wedding. Since the venue is nestled on the Mobjack Bay in Virginia, the couple drew inspiration from surrounding nature when designing their wedding details. Their color palette included lovely pops of lilac-gray, dark green, and sparkling crystal. There was no shortage of nature-inspired elements, soft florals, estate antiques, and laughter from fun-loving guests. Overall, this wedding was simply elegant and classically beautiful!

From The Bride…We met on the Carolina coast as two post-college graduates working at the beach. I was an ecology research technician new to the state, and Sam was a tanned and cute swim coach that my coworkers knew. We met once at a bar with friends, but it wasn’t until later that fall when Sam swooned me with his amazingly kind self and southern drawl. After our first date we couldn’t get enough of each other; we spent many moments on beach runs, dancing to live music, watching sports, and enjoying every minute together in a romantic beach town. It was the beautiful beginning to our love story.

We got engaged in North Carolina, beneath beautiful live oak trees. Since we are outdoorsy, nature-loving people, it was important for us to have an outdoor wedding at a private waterside residence somewhere in Virginia. Over two years, five changed wedding dates, and many venue cancelations, we could not have been happier with our end-resulting big day! Despite the wait and planning challenges, we were able to incorporate both of our tastes and favorite things into a simple and organic style that represented our personalities and love story.

From the beginning of the planning process, we wanted to incorporate greenery, delicate white flowers, and lilac-gray into our wedding, which you could find in the chiffon bridesmaid gowns, tea candles, rosemary sprigs, and bundles of branches that softened the archway at the ceremony. The Flower Cupboard captured our natural style in lovely arrangements around the arbor and in the bouquets. My wedding dress has silver and crystal beading in the bodice and a soft chiffon and tulle skirt, which danced in the breeze as I walked outside.

We proudly nodded to our Coast Guard roots and simple styles with dark navy suits, kisses of blue in the flowers, navy signage graphics, fun napkins, and favors with our service slogan. We also incorporated silk ribbon from Silk and Willow for the bouquets, bistro lights between trees for cocktail hour, and a clear top tent for the reception. Once the sun went down, a fire pit was lit to keep guests warm as they held our personalized cocktails and chatted under a nearly full moon.

Overall, the weekend was classic and natural, just as we had envisioned it would be, and BayVue was the perfect setting. I was overjoyed with every detail and decision we made! One of my favorite moments of the night was looking up through the clear top tent to the moon and stars, surrounded by our friends, family, and my amazing new husband! It was a dream come true!

French Garden Elopement Inspiration in Giverny

Just when I thought my uhb-session with all things french was manageable, this shoot comes along. A shoot filled with soft blues, warm peach hues, seasonal ModFete florals, and the ultimate elopement, but better yet? It all took place at the ideal cottage in Monet’s (yes THE MONET!) quaint town Giverny and I’m convinced I need to move there tout de suite. Kibogo Photography captured it all and we can relish it together in THE VAULT!

From Katelyn of ModFeteWe wanted this shoot to embody the rustic elegance that we found in the historic cottage garden where this took place. I was inspired by soft French blues and the warm peach tones in seasonal fruit and flowers. The table linens, foraged floral and silk ribbon I used were a complement to the organic nature of our surroundings, while the tableware, wardrobe and calligraphy gave a nod to Parisian sophistication. The cottage in Monet’s home town Giverny provided a beautiful backdrop for the table which we envisioned to be the perfect setting for an intimate garden celebration.

Winter Wedding at The Mountain Top Inn

To say it’s risky to have an outdoor wedding in Vermont is February in putting it mildly. But this brave couple’s risk paid off because the photos of their snowy day at The Mountain Top Inn are made of magic. With Julia Wade Photography behind the camera, assisted by Juliette Halsey, and personal details throughout, this couple pulled off their perfect wedding day. See it all in THE VAULT!

From Julia Wade PhotographyI loved this wedding because it was so unique.. It’s not every day you get to photograph a ceremony outside in Vermont in February!! The light was absolutely beautiful and Colleen and Misha did such a beautiful job honoring their history together and their loved ones. They met and fell in love on these beautiful slopes so I truly couldn’t imagine a more perfect place for them to start their marriage together.

Behind the Blog: Quentin & Co

Our Behind the Blog series is kind of like reality TV for the blogging world. And I’m addicted. Especially to today’s ‘episode’ of lovely, a.k.a. getting to know the pretty lady behind Quentin & Co, Shauna Dean. I want to bottle up her modern-feminine style and sprinkle it all over my own home, and, I’ve read our interview with her at least three times today. Get to know her for yourself below and follow along here!

SMP: Some words you live by?

Shauna: Follow your heart. It sounds so cliche, but it’s never steered me wrong! I think we always know in our gut when something is the right move, whether it be quitting a job, taking a leap of faith with a new venture, or spending our free time with the people and activities that bring us true joy.

SMP: Any guilty pleasures?

Shauna: I drink an excessive amount of sparkling water. I love it with fresh lemon, frozen fruit, or even a drop of peppermint extract. I have my husband addicted too; we go through a case a week. We stock up whenever it’s on sale!

SMP: What is one piece of advice you would give to a blogger just starting out?

Shauna: Just go for it! I debated on whether or not to start a blog for so long, and it was wasted time. If you want to express yourself and your interests that way, just take the leap. I can be a perfectionist, so I kept thinking I needed to have a detailed plan in place and to have every aspect perfected before I even began. Blogging is a process, and there’s such a learning curve to it. You just have to get started!

SMP: What’s your best tip for balancing work and personal life?

Shauna: You have to commit to the moment! Whether it’s bed time with the baby, or settling in to work on my blog, I’m only at my best if I’m truly focused. It can be tough to put down the phone during the day, but I’m constantly reminding myself that everything else can wait until Cohen’s napping or in bed. He’ll only be this little once, and the thought that I might miss out on even a moment forces me to be totally present with him. Likewise, when it’s time to brainstorm for upcoming blog posts, or work on styling a shoot, I do everything in my power to get inspired for the task at hand.

SMP: What color do you think will stand the test of trend time?

Shauna: White, of course! I think that everyone wants their home to feel bright, clean, and calming; there’s just no colour does that quite as effectively as white does.

SMP: One thing every style savvy homeowner should have?

Shauna: Trays! They can be used in every room of the house to pull together items for an organized and styled look. Corralling coffee essentials in the kitchen creates in an instant hot beverage station, and on a coffee table trays turn books and candles into an instant vignette. There such a versatile piece, and they can be found at any price point! A must have.

SMP: Three things every home should have?

1. A comfortable sofa; the perfect spot for cuddling, complete with pillows and a cozy throw is key to family happiness!

2. Fresh flowers; every room needs something living, and flowers are the prettiest way to add colour and life to your space.

3. Baskets; there’s no better way to keep things tidy in the those high traffic zones where random items seem to accumulate. They also make the best storage for extra blankets and pillows!

SMP: Your most prized possession?

Shauna: A pair of pearl earrings my husband bought me on our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. I’ve worn them pretty much every day since, including while my son was born. Everytime I put them on I’m reminded of how lucky I am to be surrounded by so much love.

SMP: One thing you can’t live without?

Shauna: Coffee! I actually look forward to getting up in the morning, because I know I get to have coffee when I do.

SMP: One small design change that can make a big impact?

Shauna: Rugs! They’re essential for grounding your space and they can instantly change up the feel of a space. I love bringing in a jute rug when a room is needing some natural warmth, and they’re especially beautiful layered with sheepskins.

SMP: Number one interior design tip?

Shauna: Trust your gut. You instinctively know what you love, and it’s important to stick to that in a world flooded with different style and design options. Your Pinterest board is a great starting point when shopping for your home. Take a look at any recurring themes; for me, it’s lots of white and texture, paired with minimalistic feminine details. Jot down the key elements of your dream home and don’t stray from it!

SMP: Your top 5 design tips?

1. There is no better fabric than belgian linen (preferably in white!). It’s so soft, and always looks effortlessly gorgeous. I love it for a shower curtain, bed linens, and drapery; I’m working it into every room in my house.

2. Don’t forget texture. I think a space always looks more sophisticated with a refined palette that focuses on incorporating different textures and materials instead of additional colors.

3. Splurge on lighting. It makes a huge impact, and lets you get away with more budget friendly purchases elsewhere.

4. Hang curtain rods as high as you possibly can, and buy your curtains long enough so that they pool slightly on the floor. It makes your ceilings look so much higher!

5. Invest in quality bedding. Your bed should be the softest, most comfortable place you know!

SMP: Best moment of your career so far?

Shauna: I’d say this feature and home tour on Style Me Pretty tops the list!

SMP: Your favourite instagrammer?

Shauna: Monika Hibbs! Her style is the perfect combination of pristine whites and warm rustic touches. And it doesn’t hurt that she seems totally sweet and genuine. I’m a huge fan.

SMP: Your go-to recipe?

Shauna: I’m obsessed with snacking, so energy bites are in constant rotation around here. They take 10 minutes to make and they’re perfect for grabbing on the go,

1 cup old fashioned oats
2/3 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup ground flax seed
1/2 cup cacao nibs
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon maple syrup

Mix dry ingredients; stir in peanut butter, honey, and maple syrup. Mix well. Form into balls and chill in the refrigerator for half an hour before serving.

SMP: Your most memorable moment?

Shauna: Becoming a mom. It’s the craziest experience I’ve ever had; nothing can prepare you for that kind of love. It turns your world upside down in an instant. It’s the best thing ever.

SMP: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Shauna: Ideally, five years from now I’ll be decorating my dream home, and running a thriving business where I help others decorate their dream homes too! My aim is to still be living in the moment, staying inspired, and approaching life with the same sense of possibility that I do now.

Destination Charleston Wedding with a Contemporary Vibe

If you have yet to see the engagement session that precedes this pretty day, take a second to check it out. And once you’ve fallen in love with this insanely chic duo, I promise you’ll love their wedding all the more. Photographed by Kyle John, I’m calling it “Southern Charm with a Modern Edge,” and if minimalist design makes your heart sing? This gallery is for you. Believe me, your Friday just got so much better.

From The Bride…Living and working in weddings in Chicago, we decided we wanted to get away from the midwest, and find a place where our family and friends would be excited to spend a long weekend. Evan had spent some time in South Carolina in college, so we started looking in Charleston. The beautiful mossy trees, charming city, and beach oasis completely drew us in. We spent many, many hours looking up venues, caterers and flower shops before we took our first trip down, and arrived with a short list of vendors to visit. We ended up only visiting Magnolia Plantation while we were there, and it was like paradise. We knew it would be a dream for Kyle to work there, and the intimacy of the conservatory was perfect for my vision of a lush, overgrown garden wedding.

With both of us being in creative fields, it was important for us to find vendors who had a strong vision, and we could let them run wild with our ideas. Kyle was the first vendor we found- we completely fell in love with his photographs, and laid back attitude. We knew he would be a perfect fit for our wedding. We really wanted tacos for our dinner, but we found a lot of caterers only offered low country food, or typical wedding options. We were so happy to find B. Gourmet- they took the menus from our favorite taco spots and created something that reflected our tastes and creativity. To this day, we still get compliments on the food!

Even though planning a destination wedding was sometimes difficult, we were so happy with how everything turned out. More than the wedding day itself, it was so fun to have our family and friends on vacation with us for the weekend, enjoy the city, and join us for the best dance party we could ask for!

Classic Blush + Gold Wedding at The Hempstead House

Technically speaking, photography is all about capturing light and CLY By Chung captured the light (and moments!) of this Connecticut wedding beautifully. The photos of this gorgeous Bride and her handsome Groom in the picturesque gardens are completely stunning just like the rest of this traditional wedding—especially the flowers by Design By Ahn. See all the pretty for yourself in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…David and I met in the summer of 2013 in Manhattan at his best friend’s birthday BBQ. We started dating several months later, and on July 25, 2014 David popped the question! We celebrated our engagement over a weekend with friends and family in the Hamptons and the whirlwind of wedding planning pretty much started soon after!

We had a Christian ceremony at The Hempstead House in Sands Point, NY on May 30, 2015, a beautiful mansion built in early 1900s. My vision for the wedding was ethereal and romantic, with a creamy color palette of ivory, light blush pinks and peaches. We wanted to highlight the venue’s beautiful architecture, so our main decor was focused around my favorite spring flowers, peonies and garden roses, and plenty of candles lit throughout the venue!

The day was perfect and exactly as we’d envisioned and planned. We were so blessed to celebrate with 150 of our closest friends and family and will remember the day forever!

What Does Your Favorite Flower Mean?

Roses are red. Violets are blue. Did you know that certain flowers mean “I do?” During the Victorian era, The Language of Flowers gave specific meanings to blooms so that when lovers sent bouquets, they were also sending love “letters.” Swoon. So, on your wedding day, make sure your bouquet doesn’t just look beautiful—let it say something beautiful, too!

Rustic Western Australia Wedding

Take a breathtaking Australian backdrop, vibrant red hues and two high school sweeties with a love of all things rustic and the results are this: a seriously stunning at-home affair with a never-ending list of gorgeous details all captured in beautiful images by Ben Yew.  Think lush florals from Florist Gump, lawn games and dancing under the stars.  See it all in THE VAULT right here.

From Ben Yew Photography… Chandelle first found me from one of the bridal magazine and and loved the way I capture candid moments with natural lights. She was planning an outdoor farm wedding at Joel’s sister farm in Capel, Western Australia with a river running through the 100 acre block with 750 orange trees and to make things better, there is the food truck, tractor, chickens, outdoor fire place, relaxed and casual reception area, scavenger hunt and so many other amazing things that would make her wedding amazing, it was a definite YES from me.

From the Bride… The story of Joel and I began in early high school where Joel was in the year above me. We used to walk home the same way from school, however Joel is very shy so it wasn’t until I managed to get his instant messenger address from a friend that we started walking together. This began a two year friendship where both of us had feelings for each other, but we were both too shy/awkward to act on them. Instead, we both relayed our feelings to our friends until they eventually got fed up and told us about the others affections. Armed with this knowledge, I plucked up the courage to kiss Joel for the first time after he walked me home from a party. After eight wonderful years together Joel surprised me with a marriage proposal while we were on holiday in France visiting a beautiful hilltop village called Bonnieux. We are now married and enjoying every moment of this next chapter of our lives together.

Elegant Paris Elopement

I love love loved my wedding, but if we were able to do another one? We’d jet off to somewhere fabulous and do something like these two here. Thanks to Celebrant in Paris, they said their vows before just one another and then took a walking tour of Paris with Le Secret D’Audrey capturing every romantic moment. How can you not absolutely love them? Get inspired in our VAULT right this way!

From Le Secret D’Audrey… Ella and Jordan chose Paris to say “I do” on the Bridge Alexandre III overlooking the Eiffel Tower. What a lovely day it was. They got ready together in a picturesque French apartment, shared a macaron cake and wandered the streets of Paris for couple photos in the City of Love.

From the Bride and Groom… Although we went to different universities, we both grew up in the Bay Area. We were fortunately brought together by mutual friends. We have been to 15+ weddings in the last two years and have had enough of traditional ceremonies and banquets. When Ella came across Audrey’s photos, she fell in love with her work. She pointed to one of her pictures, that this is exactly what she wanted; an elopement for us. Planning the elopement was stressful finding vendors in another country initially, but with the help of internet, we were able to find all the makeup, hair, and cinematographers that fit our elopement imagination.

The vision? “Create a style that mixes the effortlessly chic outdoor California vibe with Southern charm in the setting of an unpredictable Texas summer,” which is exactly the kind of day Emily Moise of Keely Thorne Events + Bows and Arrows brought to life. And though a rain storm came through right as the vows were spoken, that didn’t dampen the love one bit. See the celebration through Kelli Elizabeth’s lens and a must-watch clip from 31 Films below!

From Keely Thorne Events… Holly came to me with a date, a photographer, the dress, and a desire for a unique one-of-a-kind wedding for 300 guests at the country club her fiancé’s family owned – a homey setting where they often spent weekends during their relationship. I knew quickly that her wedding style was an outdoor California wedding in Texas. Meaning, create a style that mixes the effortlessly chic outdoor California vibe with Southern charm in the setting of an unpredictable Texas summer.

Exactly one year out from the big day, as I began pondering plans for my new bride, I sat in a restaurant for an early dinner watching the streets of the Historic Heights District flood, and I just had a gut feeling. Holly, 40 min north of me at that very moment, says she sat on the club’s patio under a clear sky toasting to one year out with her fiancé because as she always says, “it never rains out here!” But as every planner should, from the beginning I had the conversations and logistics moving along for a Plan A, and an efficient Plan B. Though, little did I know, Holly had other plans.

I introduced Holly and her mother to the perfect vendors for me to collaborate with to create her look: Papellerie for her custom branding and stationery who set the tone for guests from the beginning with the wedding website and save-the-date all the way through the wedding and beyond to custom thank you notes; Bows and Arrows for all their Texas-California experience and airy eclectic floral design; and Events in Bloom to lay out the space and dress up the outdoors with their quality rentals, linens, chandeliers, and draping.

The couple being lovers of fun cocktails, we added The Grand Bevy to the mix of vendors since they are the original craft cocktail artists for events. The groom setup their favorite restaurant, Uchi, to provide a sushi station to mix in with the club’s southern inspired menu. Nadine Moon of Who Made the Cake designed the cake around the custom floral sketches used in the couple’s stationery..

Having already hired her talented photographer friend, owner of Kelli Elizabeth Photography, we were left needing film, which was a no brainer: 31 Films. Who were so dedicated to getting “the moment” that they lost a camera to the elements and still managed goosebump inducing ridiculous films to treasure.

Holly’s fiancé, Austin, was in charge of picking the band. He wanted a big party band that would pack the dance floor: thus I turned to Atlanta for their collection of show stopping bands. They hired Jessie’s Girl, who as usual, exceeded expectations.

For hair, Holly used her go-to stylist Karla from Therapy Salon. For makeup, I introduced her to Kristin Daniell who was the perfect calm demeanor artist with exquisite talent to make Holly shine all night long, no matter what…

Now it should be noted that the Spring 2015 wedding season, as it turns out, was one of the rainiest years for Texas to date, especially on weekends. Thanks El Nino!

Fast forward to wedding week: Monday brought Houston historic mass flooding (as in, our city made national news…) Thankfully the club and roads leading to it were ok. But we were thinking, ‘it can’t possibly rain again so soon after all of that!’ But rain was still in the forecast. So we had to listen to my trusty unbiased tent guy, Derek Widis owner of SPF Event Resources, whose gut was telling him it was going to rain. Thus, the lounge and dance floor area would now be under a clear tent instead of exposed to the oak trees above. So after getting an additional décor budget approval, I made a call to Alicia at Bows & Arrows and said, “We have to make this clear tent look like a Plan A; let’s bring ‘that under-the-oak trees feeling’ back!” and Alicia, plus her team, happily worked long into the final nights of set up to get it all done to perfection.

Now for the ceremony, Plan B was a private ceremony inside the club for only family and wedding party to attend at the original ceremony time of 6:30pm. Guests knew about this in advance as we included a details card in the invitation set that stated “If it rains on our wedding day, please join us for cocktail hour at 7pm instead and we will see you there as Mr. and Mrs.! – check our wedding website for updates!” Well… as I mentioned, Holly had different plans.

Day of I still didn’t know which ceremony plan to call. I constantly checked my trusted Weather Underground app for updates. Rain chance= 30%; now 80%; then 40%; now 80%; then 30%… total gamble. It would not make up its mind…and neither could I! But Holly could. Maria at the club came outside to tell me, “Holly wants to get married outside and said you won’t let her.” I laughed and said I hadn’t decided but hey it’s a gamble no matter what plan, so if she wants to decide instead of me, that’s fine! and went to tell Holly the good news. After all, it was her wedding, so ultimately, her choice. But of course that didn’t mean I stopped checking the weather…

Holly and Austin had their beautiful first look under the club’s oak trees and sunny sky above them followed by all of their group pictures before guests arrived. (Plan A based on sunset time and ability to let their family and wedding party go straight into reception). At 5:45pm, ushers began escorting guests down the long path under the trees. The ceremony was set with sounds from the string quartet and harpist surrounded by the club’s lake with an authentic 15th Century French Chapel as the backdrop.

But once I saw a giant yellow storm cell caving in around our location on the radar, I knew we had to start early; we had to start now! In my mind, I knew I just had to get the bride and groom to the altar before the sky opened up. Once at the altar, it would be out of my hands. So I radioed my assistants inside with the wedding party to line them up and send them out. It was 2.5 min walk from their location to the altar, clock ticking, storm-a-brewin’.

Family lined up next to me, but our quartet had to stop playing and cover their antique instruments as the rain drops lightly began. As soon as the wedding party line was approaching, I cued family to walk down the sprinkled aisle. Next wedding party: No time to pace them out, couples in single file line filtered down the aisle to their place. I turn back around expecting Holly and her dad to be approaching me and sweet Holly was a minute’s walk away waiting for me to give her Plan A’s cue to walk once Austin was turned around (a calming feeling for me knowing that in her happy mindset, all was going to plan). I motioned her with discretely speedy hand movements and. as she passed me then through the ceremony gates she had a huge smile on her face, here was their big moment.. And sure enough, as her strappy flats hit the aisle, thunder boomed for the first time that day.

During the very brief ceremony, the rain got harder and harder as the smiles and laughter got bigger and louder. As I stood, literally in the aisle holding and umbrella over Kelli and her camera, I thought (and think I even said out loud with a chuckle), “huh, it’s only water…it’s only water!” I then realized that when Holly decided to get married outside that day, she accepted that she might just get rained on in doing so, and that it was ok because it was all about getting married to Austin, in front of that chapel with however many guests were willing to get rained on too.

As the officiant quickly got to their vows, the rain drops were fast and large, and as he announced them husband and wife, the sky completely opened into a complete downpour. The newlyweds ran down the aisle laughing to the awaiting a golf cart to whisk them back inside. The club staff was ready for the wet guests with towels, hair dryers and hot food ready inside as they ran for cover. The strings, now protected under the tent, played during cocktail hour, followed by Jason Allen, a friend and country musician, on his acoustic guitar while the rain continued to pour around the tents.

After getting the couple dried off and fed dinner in the club’s beautiful, well-equipped locker room, they were off into the reception to joyfully celebrate alongside their guests. They enjoyed their first dance and dances with parents before they got on the mic to thank everyone for sticking it out with them on this oh-so-special day. The band came on for a 3 hour continuous set and all danced the night away. At the very end the band’s horns section led guests out to the front of the club to clear the tent of all guests, band, and staff so the couple could dance one private last dance before making their formal exit through sparklers. The bride later told me the wedding party stayed up with them until the wee hours continuing to celebrate and even had a fireworks show lit by the groom’s brother as a surprise.

DIY Gift Wrap Station

Raise your hand if you: A. have to run out to the store every time you have a gift to wrap, or B. find yourself digging through the closet to track down that last roll you purchased. If your digits are in the air, take note! It doesn’t take a whole room or even a closet to organize your gift wrap. All you need is a bookshelf, a few tension rods and some pretty boxes (DIY video below!) to create your own little wrapping station haven.

Gift Wrap Organization Tips + Essentials

1. Tension rods are inexpensive and can hold both paper and ribbon. Just make sure to stack the rods a bit so that you can easily access various items for your gifts.

2. Boxes, bins and small containers are great to house things like gift tags, pens, stationery and other accessories.

3. You can repurpose any old box to create a box collection. The base of cereal, cracker and snack boxes are perfect and if spray painted in a fun color they will look chic all while being incredibly practical and inexpensive.

4. Clear boxes or drawers are a great investment. Being able to see at a glance what you have makes both wrapping and clean up all the easier.

5. The essentials. If you’ve got all of these, your wrapping station is ready to tackle any package headed its way!

  • Various papers
  • Ribbons & Baker’s Twine
  • Gift Tags
  • Clear Double-Sided Tape
  • Washi Tapes
  • Scissors
  • Pens, pencils and a few metallic markers

That said, if there was ever a time to go full force into my exercise routine, it’s right now during this bride-to-be, pre-wedding dress stage. To get started, I’m sharing a few of my favorite arm exercises below!

The best part? You can do these exercises while catching up on your favorite television shows, or while your pasta water comes to a boil (basically how I spend most evenings). That said, enjoy carrying on with your post-work routine while also getting some killer toned arms in the process!

For me, motivation comes in many forms and I fully believe in the power of a colorful sports bra. I’m constantly on the hunt for high quality, comfortable and trendy pieces and Outdoor Voices encompasses all of the above. Whether you’re running errands around town or hitting a high intensity spin class, you can’t go wrong with their leggings, crop top and hoodie combo!

Ready to get those sexy toned arms for your big day?! Okay gals, time to spill the details on my favorite arm workouts! I pulled this routine from my past personal training sessions and of course, the wonderful world of online fitness videos. Do 20 reps of each exercise and complete three rounds.
