Intimate Pastel Santa Barbara Private Estate Wedding

It almost goes without saying that when you combine the talents of B. Schwartz Photography, TOAST Event And Design Studio, Pure Joy Catering and La Tavola you’re guaranteed wedding gold. Don’t believe me? Just take one look at THE VAULT and I charge you to claim otherwise. Wedding day perfection right this way!

From B. Schwartz PhotographyWhen you combine two people so in love, their Santa Barbara estate, and 50 of their closest friends and family the outcome is what wedding dreams are made of.

Kim from Toast Santa Barbara perfectly executed Joe and Erica’s dream of an elegant backyard wedding. It was all in the details. Friends and family gathered with wine in hand, under white parasols next to a clear pool filled with floating rose petals.

After the ceremony the couple along with their intimate wedding party shared in a family style Italian pasta bar from Pure Joy catering while those closest to them toasted to their love story with and custom bride and groom cocktails.

As the night went on candles were lit and the air was filled with the sounds of music as the dancing began.

The wedding is just the start of the story, as wedding photographer we are in the business of capture stories and this wedding is a beautiful start to quite the epic love story.

Rustic Glam Wisconsin Summer Wedding

This may be a barn wedding but this is one glam dress (of course it’s Vera!). It’s one pleasant and pretty surprise among many within this Wisconsin wedding, captured by The McCartneys Photography. Their pics and the sunshine at this summer celebration are giving me hope as winter surrounds on all sides; join me in the Vault and let’s get over these hump day blues together.

From The McCartneys Photography… Erin and John were married on Door County’s bayside during a ceremony held at Sunset Beach Park. They were blessed with abundant sunshine and the support of all of their loved ones, along with beautiful music from local musicians Ben and Lily Larsen. After promising each other forever, Erin and John dashed down the street in Door County’s iconic trolley. John worked at the Fish Creek Marina growing up, and it was the perfect location to give him and his gorgeous new wife a moment to themselves while we photographed them in a classic Door County setting. Erin’s Vera Wang gown was an absolute show-stopper, and her bridesmaids looked lovely in Adrianna Papell dresses. We could have photographed them along the sparkling water all day long!

At About Thyme Farm, guests enjoyed cocktail hour and passed hors d’oeuvres on the lawn with more musical treats by Lily and Ben Larsen! While Erin and John made their way from hugs to laughs and smile-filled conversations, their amazing wedding planner, Chandra from Door County Event Planners, put the finishing touches on a timeless, beautiful barn celebration awaiting them just footsteps away. Erin and John put their stamp on their celebration with handmade planter boxes and a marquee “W” representing the new Mr & Mrs Woerfel. Heartfelt toasts, joyfully tear-filled eyes and sweet little moments between Erin and John as well as delicious food from Alexander’s led right into one of the most perfect Door County sunsets we have ever captured. In true Door County fashion, Erin and John treated their guests to locally made pies from Koepsel’s Farm Market and, from then on, their dance floor went from 0 to 100 in record time when the Bluewater Kings Band struck their first chords!

From the Bride… John and I just wanted people to have fun! One big party! We are both people that don’t like to be the center of attention and we didn’t want it to be all about us because so many people made the long trip! We wanted people to enjoy being with family and friends with the caveat being us getting married!

We always new Door County is where we would get married. We also new Sunset Beach was going to play a special role in some way or another. John’s dad grew up right down the street from Sunset Beach and John had so many memories playing there by the water. It just had so much meaning to John and his family! I honestly couldn’t think of any other place that would have been just as perfect! We actually didn’t want to have a “barn” wedding. I just thought it had been done one to many times. Because we only had eight months to plan a wedding we had to decide on a venue fast! Chandra showed us About Thyme and we just fell in love with it! I just wanted it to be elegant and simple and I think we accomplished that! The way the lighting hit the barn around the time of our cocktail hour and reception was just breathtaking and exactly what I had envisioned!

I knew I wanted dark greens and ivory with touches of gold. I didn’t want anything that was overbearing in color. We also knew we wanted a marquee “W” and John did a fantastic job building that piece, it will be showcased in our basement (our next project)!! Looking back, I really put John to work building things! We saved a lot of money by building our planter boxes, seating frames and welcome sign (painted a mirror with chalkboard painting for a total of $10!!) If we had more time I would have personalized more but between selling our house, working, and building our new home time was hard to come by!

Riding the trolley to the beach for our ceremony and exchanging our vows were my favorite parts and what I remember most. To see the emotion in John’s eyes was just overwhelming! The day was such a blur! We talk about it all the time that we would like to go back in time and be there as a guest to see from that perspective. We absolutely loved having live music for our ceremony and cocktail hour!

I would 100% recommend a wedding planner!! Although at the beginning it’s hard to see past the cost it’s at the very end and next day of your wedding where we looked back and said we were so thankful for Chandra at Door County Event Planners! She handled everything with such ease! Floral – Helene got our vision spot on! The flowers were exactly what I wanted it! Alexander’s hit it out of the park with the food! We still have people compliment us ALL the time on how great our wedding was and how fabulous our pictures are! We absolutely love our pictures and have special places in our new home to showcase them!!

Advice for future brides and grooms… ENJOY EVERY MOMENT! Even the planning part, it goes by way to fast! And the after wedding blues do exist after being on such a high from the planning to the day of! Also, do not sweat the small stuff! No one will even notice if something is out of place or forgotten!

Royal Purple Old World Wedding in Slovakia

Mary Donna and Oliver have officially planned our dream wedding. For starters, the location? Superb. The decor? Sublime. And the love? Undeniable. Peter & Veronika Photography was on hand capturing it all to share and thanks to THE VAULT you can witness the magic.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/131566263 600 338]

From Peter & Veronika PhotographyMary Donna and Oliver had to travel all over the world to find each other and fall in. Oliver was born in Slovak Republic and in the childhood emigrated with his parents to US.

Mary Donna is from Philippines, but she found her home in US as well. They are both doctors and they found their love right at the workplace. Marry is a cardiologist and therefore it was easy for her to steal Oliver’s heart. For their wedding they chose the capital of Slovak Republic – beautiful Bratislava.

Slovak Republic is on the half way between US and Philippines, that´s why both of the families met right there. The wedding took place in a beautiful hotel right at the heart of Bratislava with an amazing view of the castle and the National Theatre.

It was a classic and elegant wedding in purple and white shades. Both bridesmaids’ dresses and their bouquets were purple. We are very happy, that we could be a part of that connection of these two wonderful persons, two different cultures and two families.

Classic State Room Wedding with Vintage Nautical Touches

Drawing inspiration from the plush gardens of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, this Bride and Groom transformed the beautiful, sleek lines of Boston’s State Room into a classic, New England wedding. With pretty flowers, invitations designed by the graphic designer Bride and Boston Common Band to keep everyone on the dance floor all night, this couple pulled off their vision and made sure all the guests enjoyed their special day. See it all from Lauren Methia Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…I met Brett at Syracuse University in 2006, just 3 days before he graduated, while I was just finishing up my sophomore year. We discovered we had been in a lecture together the entire semester but had never connected. So after unknowingly being at the same school for 2 years, we started our relationship back at our parents’ homes at opposite ends of Massachusetts (how’s that for timing?). Brett moved to Boston a year later, and when I graduated in 2008, I headed straight for the coast to start our life together, finally in the same city.

As the days of wedding planning began, we were torn. We had fallen in love with Newport, Rhode Island after our engagement amongst the stunning views on the Cliff Walk. It would be a gorgeous setting for our nautical loving selves to tie the knot (pun intended). But when it came down to it, Boston was just—it was us. We couldn’t think of anything better than hosting all of our loved ones in our beloved city. We couldn’t wait to share it with everyone and show them everything we loved about this beautiful, historic, small town of a city.

We surprised ourselves when we chose the State Room as our venue—a sprawling modern space that starkly contrasted our classic New England style. But we loved the blank slate of the room which enabled us to design it exactly how we wanted. No rugs or wallpaper or drapes to compete with. But most of all, we loved the focal point of this space, which displayed the driving force behind our wedding inspiration: a two story panoramic view of Boston Harbor.

Our vision was set: soft and classic with vintage nautical touches, all inside of a bold modern space. We knew we wanted to soften the look by bringing in natural elements of varying textures; our inspiration came from the plush gardens of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard (our annual vacation destination). These varying shades of natural greens and muted warm floral tones set the foundation of our color palette along with the weathered gray of the cedar homes native to coastal New England. We were also greatly inspired by textures: wood, brass, lace, moss, rope, all used in unison; it gave so much dimension and character. All these elements set against a Boston skyscraper—we were thrilled with the result. It was classic and timeless, with an unexpected twist…which just so happened to be my same goal I had in looking for a gown. I can’t thank my mom enough for all of her help with the details. Her impeccable eye kept us on track the whole way.

As a graphic designer, I was pumped to design my invite set and paper products. I can’t tell you how much time I spent from sketching ideas to refining each piece. I knew I wanted letter press from the start, and was even able to help with the printing process. I cut the paper, inked the press, and ran the machine: it was so immensely satisfying to physically create these pieces from start to finish. The program was another favorite, which featured amazing little illustrations of the bridal party by one of my bridesmaids. (My friends are all so talented, it’s silly.)

We scheduled a lot of time for photos before the wedding, not wanting to miss any of our favorite Boston backdrops. We loved the idea of being able to spend some time together, calming our nerves before the big event. A trolley took us around the city from the Seaport to the Public Gardens to the historic Boston Public Library. At this last stop, we arrived to find a pride flag flying proudly above the city, as just one day before, the supreme court made it’s landmark decision on same-sex marriages. We were so overjoyed to share our special weekend with a nation-wide celebration of love. As Justice Anthony M. Kennedy stated that day, “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.” What a weekend for a wedding!

Our biggest goal for the reception was just to throw a damn good party. We were so thankful to have all our loved ones together with us on our special day and wanted everyone to be enjoying themselves just as much as us. Our marriage could not be without all the people who support us and love us, so it was important to us that this was a celebration for us all. Thus, it became my husband’s obsession to find the perfect band, which he did. We did not step off that dance floor (and neither did our guests!) the entire night.

I could go on and on and on about our wedding, the details, the people, the perfect moments and the inevitable mishaps… but I’ll leave it with this: I truly would not have changed one thing.

Elegant Black Tie St. Augustine Wedding

I’m sorry, but I just cannot get over how beautiful this Bride looks with her sleek low bun and simple yet stunning Amsale gown with its illusion back, covered buttons and a peplum! Add to that winning combination a bouquet of fluffy white peonies, an elegant Florida venue, a handsome Groom and photos from the incredible Still55 Photography for a wedding that is take-your-breath-away beautiful. See it all in The Vault!

From the Bride… We got married in St. Augustine, FL, which is the oldest city in the US, so we aimed to capture the charm of the historic town, blending together the old and the new throughout our wedding weekend. The majority of our guests were coming from out of town, so we wanted to provide an easy, relaxing weekend surrounded by friends and family. As our wedding was just before Christmas, we wanted to create the classic, warm feeling of the holidays – a moment in time that you hope never ends.

We knew we wanted a formal wedding that felt classic, had modern, elegant touches, but was easy to execute. We decided on a color palette of black and white with gold accents. My dress followed suit; it was extremely simple from the front, but had a beautiful, unexpected modern back. Our invitations were black and white, incorporating a blind embossed print. Our flowers were mostly shades of whites, with hints of barely there blush. At the event itself, we outfitted the tables with black linens, gold flatware, and a sea of tapered candles to bring the simple, formal style to life.

Our old-meets-new theme extended into the fine details of the day, borrowing from and celebrating with the generations that came before us. My wedding rings were beautifully created from a pin given to Gordon by his grandmother. And during the wedding processional, my brother carried a tussie-mussie in memory of our mom, the same one she carried at his wedding. They were simple, personal remembrances of some of the most important people in our lives.

Two elements that were a huge hit with our guest were the photobooth and professionally shot slide show.  The photobooth was an open-air booth that catered to both couples and large groups. We opted not to have any props and kept the background a simple crisp white, so that the focus was on all our good looking guests. Everyone received an instant copy, a sweet personal memento of the night.

We also wanted to share the fun, joyous moments we had while getting ready, experiencing our first look, and celebrating throughout the day before the wedding ceremony. Our incredible photographers were able to pull together a gorgeous collection of photos in less than an hour, leaving our guests raving about every detail.

Everyone imagines being on stage singing with a live band at some point in their lives – we were lucky enough to do so while surrounded by all our favorite people. It was the moment we knew this was truly the best day of our lives. Looking over the sea of people dancing, smiling, and scream-singing Journey and Michael Jackson, we just took it all in, realizing how incredibly lucky we are to have each other and all our friends and family in one place.

One piece of advice for brides and grooms-to-be…  Prioritize. There are so many decisions you’re forced to make when planning a wedding, if you stick to what’s most important to you and your partner, everything will be that much easier. We made a top three list and stuck with it, deciding to spend most of our budget on those top things. This meant we avoided getting caught up in every single overwhelming detail and knew that our wedding would be the exact day we both wanted from day one.

From Still55 PhotographyElizabeth and Gordon live in Boston but have ties to the romantically historic city of St. Augustine. Elizabeth’s father still lives there and she knew St. Augustine was the place she wanted to celebrate their marriage.

With the help of a great supporting cast in St. Augustine, Elizabeth worked hand in hand with a team of superb Florida vendors to make her vision come to life. Leading the team was Sara Grace from the Big Event. Knowing Elizabeth’s desire for the day she found that the newly remodeled Treasury would provide the elegant charm that Elizabeth was after. The stately banquet room has eight towering columns, marble floors, and luxurious architectural details soaring overhead to the vaulted ceiling. It provides both the luxury of the modern conveniences, and also continues to embrace its past as a beautiful, elegant and historic landmark.

With the help of a great team Elizabeth’s vision came to life. She wore a timeless peplum gown from Amsale reminding us of the striking beauty that simplicity presents. Their reception had understated touches of romance. Small but thoughtful tablescapes adorned the old bank treating her guest to dinner by candle light. This black tie wedding was truly a beautiful reflection of the couple and their love for one another.

Chocolate Tarts with Salted Caramel Sauce

This post and I were meant to be. I am chocoholic at heart, and today, I’ve met my newest chocolate obsession. You might’ve drooled over it earlier this week in our sweet Valentine’s party? Well, we’ve got the recipe today, plus a round up of treats that are sure to put you in a chocolate coma!

Chocolate Tarts with Salted Caramel Sauce
prep time
10 Minute/s
cook time
30 Minute/s
total time
40 Minute/s
Serves 0Ingredients
  • For the crust:
  • 6 tbsp. unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 tbsp. water
  • 1 tbsp. canola oil
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • For the ganache:
  • 9 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • For the salted caramel sauce:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 Tbs salted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
  1. Make the crust: Heat oven to 400°. Stir butter, water, oil, sugar, and salt in a heatproof bowl; bake until butter is bubbling and lightly brown at edges, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and stir in flour until dough comes together. Press dough into bottom and up sides of 4″ tart pans. Using a fork, prick dough all over. Bake until cooked through, 10–12 minutes; let cool.
  2. Make the salted caramel sauce: Melt sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Sugar will naturally change consistency and begin to brown and liquify. Add your butter and continue stirring until completely combined. Add in your heavy cream, stirring constantly. Add in your vanilla as you continue to stir. Don't fret if the mixture bubbles. Bring to a boil, then remove from the heat and stir in your salt.
  3. Make the ganache: Place the chocolate into a medium bowl. Heat the cream in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Bring just to a boil, watching very carefully because if it boils for a few seconds, it will boil out of the pot. When the cream has come to a boil, pour over the chopped chocolate, and whisk until smooth.
  4. Allow the ganache to cool slightly before pouring into cooled tart crusts.
  5. Once filled tarts are cooled, top with salted caramel sauce.

Dream City Proposal at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston

Is this perhaps the cutest proposal ever? I think that’s pretty safe to say. Because when Boston blogger, Corporate Glitter thought she was signing up to model for a photo shoot organized by Annmarie Swift Photography, she got the surprise of her life turning around to find her boyfriend, Matthew on bended knee. Kuddos Matthew – you’ve officially set the bar for boyfriends everywhere.

From the Bride-to-be…Matthew and I began looking at rings together about six months ago. I wanted the proposal to be a surprise, but preferred to be a part of picking out the ring. We looked a few times before finally deciding on what shape and style I liked: an oval diamond in an oval halo setting.

Fast forward to the end of December. I received an email from Annmarie Swift, a Boston area wedding photographer that we have been lucky enough to shoot with a few other times. The email stated that she was in need of another winter session for her magazine and asked if Matt and I would be interested in doing the shoot with her. I asked Matt right away if we could do it, and he told me he had to check his work schedule but thought it would be okay. I emailed Annmarie right back letting her know that we would LOVE to be models again.

Annmarie and I went back and forth a few times, discussing hair, makeup and of course, the perfect dress! This session was supposed to be a “formal anniversary” shoot, so we decided on a beautiful blush pink tulle gown with sequins embroidery. She even asked if we would bring our dog, Sam, and we discussed how cute a floral wreath for him would be.

January 23 came and I decided to go get my nails done that morning with a girlfriend of mine. We joked that maybe Matt would propose at the shoot. After doing my hair and makeup, Matthew and I made our way into the city and arrived at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston just before 3:00 PM. The conversation on the ride there consisted mostly of how our dog Sam was going to react to being in the city, and how cold it was going to be in a backless dress. Matt never let on that he was nervous or anxious.

Once all of the people cleared the front steps of the MFA we shed our jackets and began shooting. When I say it was cold, I mean it was COLD. I didn’t mind though because I knew this was going to be another wonderful shoot with an amazing photographer, and Matt and I would have the photos to cherish forever.

After about 10 minutes of posing just the two of us and with Sam, Annmarie told Matt to step aside as she wanted to take a few full-length photos of my dress. She was on the steps and I was standing below her. She instructed me to keep looking at the column behind her and to not move. A second or two later she told me to turn around and throw my arms around Matt.

My heart dropped as I turned around to see the love of my life, down on one knee, with the most beautiful ring in his hands. As I stepped closer to him he said the sweetest words and asked me to marry him. I was completely surprised and overwhelmed with happiness that I actually had to ask Matt later that night if I said yes! (I did J) And now we have the most amazing photos of the best moment of our lives.

Little did I know, the whole shoot was Matt’s idea! He had emailed Annmarie, coordinated the day and even met up with her at the MFA a few days prior to go over the plan of action. But the surprises didn’t stop there. At home there were more roses, chocolates, champagne chilling on ice and a very special handmade piece – a wooden sign that read “Katie & Matt 01/23/2016” that Matt had carved himself.

We had made dinner reservations earlier that week to celebrate Matt’s birthday, so we got changed and headed to the restaurant. When we arrived, we were led to the back where both of our families were sitting at a large round table to surprise us (well, me) – another one of Matt’s ideas! We had a delicious meal and got to show our families the proppsal photos that Annmarie had already edited and sent back to us.

I cannot even begin to explain the amount of happiness I felt that day, and continue to feel each day after, know how much time, thought and effort my wonderful fiancé put into making the proposal such a magical moment. It was the greatest day of my life and I cannot wait to marry my best friend!

Charming + Romantic Maravilla Gardens Wedding

I could stare at this Bride’s bouquet all.day.long. I’m not joking, it’s so pretty, it’s perfect. The colors, the arrangement, the flowers selected. So major props to Enchanted Garden Floral Design because their creation is why I’m not leaving our Vault anytime soon. The bouquet is captured beautifully by Erin J Saldana, along with every other moment of this summer celebration – see it all this way!

From the Bride… Seven months later, Travis and I still talk about how perfect our special day was. We wish we were in that moment again. The music that Aaron Massey, from VOX DJ’s, played made me dance all night while Travis was catching up with childhood friends he hadn’t seen in years. I even did the cupid shuffle and had fun doing it!! Aaron worked the crowd and was so professional.

Every time we look at our pictures Travis and I feel blessed to have had a day where we had all our loved ones in one place sharing our joy and love. My flowers were absolutely STUNNING!! Judy from Enchanted Garden, was so detailed from the bar to my bridal bouquet. I loved the soft peach dahlias with the antique lavender roses, the lush passion vine and cascading amaranthus. My wedding flowers were absolutely enchanting. With picture frames, lanterns, mirrors, candles and votives scattered, the flowers from Enchanted Garden looked like part of Maravilla Gardens’ landscape.

I loved how Maravilla Gardens was so easy to reach and how prompt they were to answer my never ending questions. The weather was perfect and they made sure our guests were comfortable. When it got cold Erin Boskovish asked us if we would like heaters because she noticed that some guests looked cold. She was considerate and conscious of our spending. We of course said yes. They wanted to make sure our day went smooth. They think of everything!! They recommended vendors and an after party. Although the reception ended at 10PM, with a fairy tale sparkle farewell, the party continued at Safire American Bistro. It was only 3 miles from the Maravilla Gardens. The Marriot Hotel, which most everyone stayed at, was across the parking lot from the after party. Safire stayed open just for us!! We had the private back room with a patio all to ourselves. We ordered 15 stonefire flat breads which went perfect with their delicious cocktails. The bartenders there and the staff were so awesome!! We even had our rehearsal dinner there.

The venue was beautiful from beginning to end and Erin J Saldana Photography was there to capture it all. My wedding party had nothing but great things to say about the team. I felt like a reality star because the team was so slick about getting the right angle. Erin was there every moment that was most important to me. She knew what I wanted and knew what and who I cared about. When I looked at the photographs I was in awe! I am the last of five girls and to see my daddy and I dancing together to Michael Buble’s “Daddy’s Girl” I melted. I still get teary eyed to see the emotions we went through in that moment. When Travis and I were in the fields with the sun setting behind us and wind letting off a little breeze, time stopped. We forgot Erin and her crew were there. We were taking it all in and Erin captured us enjoying that. In all the photographs our fun and passionate side are exposed. The photo booth was a hit too!! Everyone was having a blast!! Guests took a copy of their photo booth pic and pasted it to our guest book. It was so fun looking at them the next day and reading all the fun comments and beautiful wishes. Erin J Photography was professional and understood our theme and personality. We couldn’t have chosen a more talented, attentive, energetic and friendly company to have photograph our wedding day. We loved that we had a team of Erin/ Aaron!!

I wanted something simple, elegant and timeless for my dress. For the bridesmaid dresses, I wanted them to wear a black short dress of their choosing. My bridesmaids and Maid of Honor all have different personalities so I wanted them to feel free to choose something that they felt comfortable and beautiful in. My Maid of Honor wore a black short lace dress which made her stand out.

Enchanted Garden Floral Design was AMAZING!!! And Erin Boskovich from Maravilla Gardens was our Coordinator; Superwoman!! She made everything flow and was so attentive. She made sure we both were happy and had everything we needed. She knew our parents were important to us and that we wanted them to feel special too. She exceeded our expectations!!

Our DJ Aaron Massey from VOX DJ’s was AMAZING!! He was very personable, played everything we wanted, understood our personality and wants. He was very attentive to us and made the whole party dance all night.

We wanted our cake to have a simple design with a lace trim in the middle draped with flowers on a black stand and we got more than we ever dreamed of. The cake was ice cream inspired because we both love ice cream. We had layers of cookies-n- cream, lemon raspberry and chocolate and peanut butter cake. Everyone loved it!!!

Command Performance Catering was AMAZING!! The food was so delicious. The jalapeno mac-n-cheese was everyone’s favorite along with the almond stuffed date wrapped in bacon. Command Performance truly delivered exceptional food. Right when my husband and I finished walking out of our ceremony we had drinks and appetizers waiting for us and our families. Perfect timing for a celebratory drink right before pictures. Robert, Command Performance Chef, was super attentive and paid attention to detail. He came out to greet us and made sure everything was going the way we wanted it to go. Guest and family members still praise the food. That was exactly what Travis and I wanted; excellent food, music and atmosphere.

Our favors were spice jars filled with Susie Q’s Santa Maria Valley Style Seasoning. Travis and I met in Santa Maria so we wanted to spice our guests up with it.

Invitations and dessert labels were just perfect. Jen knew exactly what we were looking for! Not going to lie, it was difficult to choose because there are soo many amazing unique choices. We didn’t want traditional and she did an amazing job with black invitations!

Our hair was done by Tony Pineda at Pin Up Girl Boutique. He was so amazing and fast! He came to my hotel and worked his magic.

Makeup was done by Mattie at Meowglam. This team was great and so were the prices. Mattie was so down to earth and one of a kind. She seemed to always care that I was comfortable and pleased with my makeup. She also did my church makeup the week before. Our makeup lasted all night! She even gave us all a personable and customized kit to use throughout the night if we needed to retouch.

Modern Fall Wedding with a Candlelit Dinner

At the very top of this couple’s wedding wish-list? A non-traditional celebration full of heart, love and family. In lieu of a first look or formal schedule they chose to take the day slow and share in the little moments with their darling baby boy. To cap off the evening, they treated their guests to a candlelit dinner in a wine cave plus a gorgeous dessert by Sweet On Cake. Head to The Vault for even more captured by The Edges.

From The Edges Wedding Photography… Libby & Ross wanted a more un-traditional wedding. They got ready together on the day with their new baby, Everette. There wasn’t a big reveal or first look, just a sweet moment with the three of them. Guests arrived to a cocktail hour before the ceremony. They were able to chill out and relax on the lounge furniture and enjoy the sunshine and a drink before the festivities began.

What we loved is that the couple was very casual with the timing of the ceremony – they just decided when it felt right to start and the little ones dropped flowers on the ground as guests surrounded them in a circle. Afterwards was another cocktail hour before being seated for dinner.

Since this was a destination wedding, it gave everyone lots of time to interact and enjoy each other’s company. Dinner was served in a wine cave with lots of candles. Even the band they hired was unique – a blue grass/country band from Austin, TX. It was truly a special day and shows how you can celebrate in a way that is unique to who they are as a couple.

Behind the Scenes with Allyson Conklin Public Relations

Allyson is a boss lady that moves mountains but does so with a smile on her face and a stunning office as her base. One draped in her signature color combo (#blueandwhiteforever) and chic to its core. We’re going behind the scenes with Allyson Conklin Public Relations and not only talking PR shop but getting the details behind that gorgeous office. See even more captured by Cassie Rosch in the VAULT.

SMP: Tell us a little about your business.

AC: Allyson Conklin Public Relations (or ACPR) is a boutique public relations agency specializing in beauty, home and lifestyle brands. Since our launch in December 2010, we have worked to get beauty brands, home accent lines, interior designers, bloggers, and e-commerce shops across the U.S. noticed by editors and consumers. Our efforts are focused on public relations, social media, and brand styling, which are all critical components to a well-marketed brand.

SMP: Some words you live by?

AC: Balance, acceptance, expression, and courage. And above all, kindness.

SMP: Any guilty pleasures?

AC: Sleeping in! We have a 10-month-old yellow lab mix, Macon, who has an affinity for early mornings. So even getting out of bed at 6:30 a.m. is an indulgence.

SMP: What did you think your dream job was before your dream job found you?

AC: Lucky for me, I had no idea! So I can’t imagine anything else than this!

SMP: What’s your favorite quote that describes your creative process?

AC: The best things happen unexpectedly. I’m a big believer in not forcing the process. Trust that everything will work out.

SMP: What’s a typical work day for you like?

AC: My workdays typically start between 5 and 5:30 a.m. and are followed by a cup of coffee, quick check in on email and social media, walk with the dogs, and a workout. I’m in the office by 9 a.m. and try to always start with a quick team pow-wow. Then it’s a mixed bag. Most days involve some sort of strategic planning, media relations, social media work, creative writing, managing and mentoring my team, and client communication. I also dedicate several hours to each week to business development, accounting, connecting with other business owners, and other general operations. My days are jam-packed, so I tend to power through lunch and eat at my desk so that I can be out the door by 4:30 p.m. After dinner I check in on email and social media one last time before I settle in for the night. And no judgment please, but most nights I’m in bed well before 9 p.m.!

SMP: Do you have any secret talents?

AC: I can parallel park like it’s nobody’s business. Also, I can sing. Though I never had the guts for anything beyond singing at my high school’s sporting events and talent shows.

SMP: If you could dine with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

AC: My husband. Lucky for me, I get to dine with him everyday.

SMP: What was the tipping point in your business that made you feel like it was going to thrive?

AC: When I came to the realization that I no longer could do it all myself! This happened about a year into business and it was one of the scariest, yet soundest, decisions I have made thus far. Deciding to hire staff was instrumental in shaping the future of ACPR. I started with a part time freelancer and eventually added salaried employees. While hiring and employing the right people still isn’t a perfect process for me, I’m pretty pleased with where we are today.

SMP: What is the hardest lesson in business you’ve ever learned?

AC: Everything won’t always go your way. And that’s ok. If everything went my way, I’d be jaded. And that wouldn’t be good for business!

SMP: If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?

AC: Don’t wait. There are a million excuses why you can’t or now isn’t the right time. But if you can’t stop thinking about it, there is no better time than now. The beautiful thing about life is that we’re capable of manifesting what we want. Be brave and go for it.

SMP: What is your favorite item in your office?

AC: It’s a tie between the nuLOOM rugs and the ginger jar watercolors by The Aestate. The rugs because they singlehandedly changed the entire look of both offices in one fell swoop. And the art because #blueandwhiteforever and they make me happy.

SMP: What’s your best tip for balancing work and personal life?

AC: Just do the best you can. I don’t think balance is a state, but a feeling. And it can be tough to achieve, especially when it comes to owning a business! Find something that works for you and be flexible in your methods for keeping it.

SMP: One thing every style savvy homeowner should have?

AC: Pillows! To me, a space just isn’t complete without them. They have the ability to transform a look entirely! The leopard pillows were a no-brainer for me. I’m obsessed with the Jamil Natural Leopard Velvet fabric by Braemore and am fully on the “leopard is a neutral” bandwagon.

SMP: Your secret to success?

AC: Learn to take the ebbs with the flows. If there’s one thing that I’ve accepted about business over the past five years, it’s that there are no constants. The only constant is change! The ups and downs are natural and when I resolved to embrace it, instead of fighting it, I opened myself up to attracting more success than I could have ever imagined.

SMP: The best job you ever had?

AC: This is it! It’s a job that I never thought I would have, but now that I do, I can’t imagine doing anything else.

SMP: Why do you think your business has done so well?

AC: I think we make public relations more approachable. PR has a reputation of only being available to a select few, mostly based on budget and access, but it’s my hope that we can continue to help shift that mindset. That’s why I am so passionate about working with the independent brands of the worlds. They are the movers, the shakers and the innovators!

SMP: What was the first job you ever landed?

AC: A Fashion Intern for Footwear News. I was bitten by the fashion bug and needed to complete an internship to graduate, so New York City called my name. The entire interview process was conducted from afar and before I knew it, I found myself amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. As a Fashion Intern, I was responsible for managing the fashion closet, helping the Fashion Director conduct research for her stories, and assisting in photo shoots.

SMP: If you could buy yourself a single gift of any cost, what would it be?

AC: Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium handbag (in navy suede with gold hardware, if you must). It’s something that I’ve wanted for years. I’ve set some goals for myself in 2016 and if I reach them, it’ll be mine!

SMP: Best moment of your career so far?

AC: Landing a job at W magazine. I went up against thousands of applicants and somehow managed to make an impression on one very influential New Yorker, whose decision to hire me set in motion a series of events that would lead me to where I am today.

SMP: Your favorite instagrammer?

AC: I may be biased, but I think @waitingonmartha has the best Instagram feed around.

SMP: If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?

AC: I would trust myself more. Coming from the corporate world, I always had a team to support and validate my decisions. But in the early days of ACPR, it was just me. I doubted myself and second-guessed my decisions almost daily. While it’s unrealistic to think that there would be no self-doubt if I did it all over again, I’d make more of a concerted effort to push that uncertainty to the side and just do my thing.

SMP: Advice you’d give to your younger self?

AC: Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Things will work out! And if they don’t, then it’s not meant to be!

SMP: Where do you see yourself in five years?

AC: If all goes to plan, I’ll still be doing this! But with even more passion, knowledge and wisdom.

SMP: Your most prized possession?

AC: My diamond eternity wedding bands.

SMP: One thing you can’t live without?

AC: My husband, Michael. We’ve been together for 15 years (married for 10) and I cannot imagine life without him. He inspires me to be a better person, keeps me grounded, makes me laugh, and teaches me to love myself just the way I am. Plus, he makes a killer omelet and the fluffiest pancakes you’ll ever eat! We spend essentially every minute of every day together (he has a home based office, too) and somehow, I still can’t get enough of him. He’s my favorite person in the whole world.

SMP: One place everyone must visit in their lifetime?

AC: New York City. The energy is unlike anything you’ll experience anywhere else. It’ll totally change your perspective of the world, and in the best way possible.

SMP: The best advice you’ve ever received?

AC: Work hard and be nice. Plain and simple, but highly impactful.

SMP: Your go-to recipe?

AC: I’ve been on a scalloped potatoes kick as of late! I knew that it was a keeper when my father-in-law went back for seconds. I consider that the seal of approval.

SMP: What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

AC: Honestly, I’m not sure that I would do anything differently! The harsh reality of this world is that we’re constantly being judged, no matter what we do. So instead of wasting time thinking about how you’re perceived by others, I say let’s focus on impressing ourselves. Silence the chatter and turn up the volume on your own voice.

SMP: Your most memorable moment?

AC: It may sound trite, but walking into the office every morning is memorable for me. Seeing a physical manifestation of something that I built from the ground-up is quite powerful (and I’m not just talking about the design). I don’t take that for granted.

SMP: Stranded on a desert island question… what’s the one cocktail you would take with you?

AC: White sangria! Just think of the possibilities with all that fresh tropical fruit!

SMP: Three things every home should have?

AC: A stocked bar, high quality bedding, and rescue pets.

SMP: One small design change that can make a big impact?

AC: It was a game changer when I accepted that every square inch doesn’t need to be decorated. I have a gorgeous, oversized (with an emphasis on oversized) built-in bookshelf in my office. Since the moment I moved in, it intimidated me. All that space to fill! It has since gone through a series of looks, including what I like to call the “over-styled” look and the “I can’t deal with it so just throw stuff in there” look. Its current state is a happy balance of styled and white space.

I started Allyson Conklin Public Relations (or ACPR) in December 2010 after working for big brands in both New York City and Park City, Utah. And since then, we’ve had the opportunity to represent independent beauty, home and lifestyle brands across the U.S. I pinch myself everyday because we work with brands that I admire and am personally obsessed with! After graduating from Colorado State University in 2005, I started my career in New York City, working for fashion title W magazine. I then transitioned into the PR world with an in-house job at Shiseido Cosmetics, where I worked on the Shiseido, Cle de Peau Beaute and Zirh brands. A stint with a luxury lifestyle developer in Park City, Utah, followed before I founded ACPR. And since then, I’ve been lucky enough to call myself a proud business owner. I do what I love and I think it shows!

Our offices are based out of my home in Fort Collins, Colorado, and we occupy around 900 square feet (bigger than my entire apartment in New York City post-college!) of the basement level. My husband and I purchased this home in September 2014 and the moment we toured it earlier that summer, I knew it would not only be perfect for us, but perfect for ACPR. So we moved our Old Town offices about a month after moving in. And haven’t looked back since!

After years of housing ACPR in different environments (a spare bedroom, co-working spaces, and dedicated offices), I had lots of ideas about how to furnish it. But it took much longer than I expected! I wanted the design to be thoughtful, combining the best parts of an office and the best parts of a home to create a space that is bright, inspiring and showcases my personal style. My favorite color is blue (I blame it on my mother who has been collecting blue and white ceramics since I was a child), am a sucker for leopard, faux fur and gold, and believe a bar cart belongs in every room (we have two in the office!). It all really started to come together in late 2015 and after spending a good month settling in, I’m happy to say that I’m in love, and so is the rest of my staff.

How To Create The Perfect Champagne Tower

We’ve been indulging in sweets land for the past 24 hours and have been loving every second. But we’re getting a little thirsty around here. So, we’re busting out the bubbly and serving it up in style, champagne tower perfection to be exact. You guys, this is SO much easier than you might think! And such a fun way to dress up a party, whether it be a Valentine’s soiree or a birthday bash. Get the how to below!

Materials

Bottles of champagne (we used about one bottle for every 8 coupes but this will vary depending on the size of your coupes)
Coupe glasses (not flutes!)
Tray (large enough for your bottom layer)

instructions

step-1Set your tray on a sturdy, even table—it will catch any spillage from the tower.

step-2The tower is made of layers of coupes arranged in a square formation. Each layer of the tower has 1 less coupe on each side than the layer below- for example, if your base layer is a square of 16 coupes (4×4), the next layer would be 9 coupes (3×3), then 4 coupes (2×2), and finished with 1 coupe on top.

step-3To stack the coupes, arrange the first layer in a square shape with all the rims touching, so that there is a diamond shape of space in the middle of the rims. Place each coupe of the next layer centered over the diamond shape between the rims of the coupes below. Keep stacking until you top with a single coupe.

step-4Slowly pour champagne into the top coupe and as it fills it will overflow and spill into the coupes below. The champagne will trickle down and fill all the coupes in this manner (and make way less of a mess than you might imagine!).

Victorian-Inspired Montana Bridal Session

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’m ready to ask this photo shoot from Rebecca Hollis Photography to be my Valentine. After all, February 14th is all about love and I am oh-so-in-love with every detail of this inspiration session: the lush, bright floral arrangements from City Blossoms, the gorgeous Velvet Bride gown and the beautiful calligraphy from Seniman Calligraphy. See every magic moment in The Vault!

From City BlossomsFrom furniture dating back to 1823, to the teapot we used on the cake table that was given to my great grandparents as a wedding gift in 1912, we couldn’t help but be inspired to do this gorgeous Victorian inspired bridal shoot. Amongst the trees with the sun turning the wheatgrass to a golden shimmer and the rolling hills of the Bitterroot Valley of Montana as our backdrop, we were able to capture the beauty of a bride in her stunning long-sleeved backless gown with spring florals set in the frosty air.

Blogger Belles Vies’ Cherry Blossom-Filled Washington DC Engagement

With a penchant for all things French (her blog name Belles Vies means “beautiful lives”), it was only natural for Natalie to incorporate French details into her beautiful D.C. engagement photos. Think macarons and antique Champagne coupes set against a blanket of pink petals, a lovely white dress and a gorgeous couple. See all the pretty from Annamarie Akins Photography in The Vault!

From Annamarie Akins PhotographyMatthew and Natalie, Blogger at Belles Vies and lover of all things french, first met in DC after attending a concert…they were both waiting for a taxi outside of the venue and starting talking and laughing. I love that Natalie mentioned that it was this immediately feeling of familiarity like they had known each other for years! After spending time with them, it’s so easy to see that they are perfect for one another! Their relationship grew from that first meeting and after several moves to other cities together, this past January Matthew proposed while they were house hunting in Philly where they hope to live for a long time! I’m so excited for them to get married next June and start a new chapter of life together…and after seeing how creative Natalie is, I can’t wait to see what she and Kari Rider Events bring together for the wedding!

It was such an honor to capture them in this season of engagement. They were a dream to photograph and made my job so easy! They are truly one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met and I’m so excited to get to share their dreamy shoot in DC with you today! We started at sunrise and walked around the monuments before heading to the Eastern Market district where they used to live when they first met. Natalie is a lover of all things French so the floral grown and picnic complemented her style perfectly!

From The Bride…Matthew and I have lived all over the country (five cities in four years!) but there is an extremely special place in our hearts for Washington, D.C. We met and fell in love in our nation’s capital and there are so many neighborhoods that remind us of our early days falling for each other. As soon as I began to dream about our engagement photos, I knew I wanted to capture us in locales where we experienced some of the most meaningful moments of our early love. The Jefferson Memorial is our favorite of the D.C. memorials and standing encircled in the colonnade of Ionic columns as the morning light peaked through was nothing short of magical!

My style blog BellesVies.com is inspired by my love for French joie de vivre and my penchant for all things French has become a beautiful part of our relationship (we are spending three weeks in France for our honeymoon!). It felt natural to incorporate that aesthetic into our engagement photos so I decided to create a romantic picnic that would be worthy of a modern-day Marie Antoinette. I knew the Tidal Basin’s cherry blossoms would make the perfect backdrop, and even though peak bloom occurred a few days prior, we lucked out with a lush carpet of blush Dogwood petals. I paired gilded details, including a gold-trimmed mirrored tray and antique champagne coupes, with an assortment of macarons and vintage picnic baskets. I was even able to find apropos cherry blossom macarons!

We finished our beautiful morning by wandering through Eastern Market, the neighborhood I lived in when we met. We spent so many days wandering the lush streets admiring the charming homes with our dog during our first year together. It was so much fun to be back there and engaged! I could not be more in love with how beautifully Anna captured our love story and I can’t wait to marry Matthew in just a few short months!

Whimsical Pastel Winter Fairy Tale Wedding

There is nothing I love more than a pastel wedding and this whimsical celebration is exactly what I’m talking about. A winter celebration that is as cozy as it is chic, this pretty captured by Peter & Veronika Photography has earned it’s place in our wedding loving hearts. From the Bride’s bedazzled heels, to the perfectly pink gowns, see it all in The Vault!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/122906081 600 338]

From The Bride…Darius organized a romantic weekend in Budapest for us. One day we went on a cruise on the Danube river where Darius proposed. Everything was very romantic that evening. The proposal was unexpected and I realized what is going on only when Darius suddenly kneeled down. Afterwards I finally understood why he ordered a shot of vodka during dinner – for the courage

Originally our wedding was going to take place on 6th June, however we changed our mind and decided that wedding on snow would have a lot of charm. The decision was inspired by my parents, in more specific, their winter wedding in February thirty-three years ago.

During several months before the wedding I spent hours browsing the World Wide Web looking for inspiration for the wedding decorations. All the way from the beginning I was sure about the agency I would like to collaborate with regarding decorations – Moruška dizajn has always been my number one option. The style of our wedding was “romantic vintage”. We opted for round tables and stylish chiavari chairs. Base color for table decorations was pink, highlighted by grey table cloths. In the middle of each table was a bouquet made primarily out of roses. All flowers were imported from Holland and unbelievably beautiful. Behind the table of the bridal couple stood a wall decorated with pom-poms. Finally, there was a cigar and a candy bar.

Our wedding day was a big success. Everything went as planned, even beyond expectation. It was great that we did not have to take care of anything the day itself anymore, our only task was to enjoy the day to the fullest. Everything was taken care of by our contractors and our wedding coordinator Zuzana. It truly was a fairytale wedding.

Romantic At-Home Wedding

A glittery gold gownbeautiful blooms from Hobby Hill Florist and crazy cool paper goods from Caroline Maxcy… this, loves, is what we call rustic romance done oh-so-RIGHT.  But beyond all of the seriously stunning details is a heartwarming story of love, home and family… and it’s what really makes this day shine.  See it all captured beautifully by Kt Crabb Photography in THE VAULT.

From Kt Crabb Photography… I would like to formally introduce you to thee Mr. and Mrs. Fox! As fate would have it, Caroline would return to her hometown of Sebring during a trying season of life. It’s a beautiful thing when there is hope and beauty that springs out of a rough patch in life. Devon was that bright spot in her day and before she knew it, they were head over heels for one another. Her hometown grew to become a significant part of your life once again and it was there that they committed to spending the rest of their lives together.

The small town charm spoke volumes as a crowds of friends and family poured in to witness their union and celebrated their marriage. Little details of Caroline’s late father were scattered amongst the details from the benches at the ceremony made with his hands to the reception that took place outside his home. It truly was a celebration that left and imprint on everyone’s heart.

Leven Rambin + Jim Parrack’s Al Fresco Texas Wedding

You know her from roles on our favorite shows like One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy and All My Children, but today Leven Rambin is stepping into the role of bride with a look inside her autumn wedding to Jim Parrack (a.k.a . Hoyt from True Blood.) Taking cues from the venue, Leven and Jim’s planner, Something To Celebrate designed a day infused with European-style elegance and Heather Curiel came on board to capture. Consider your wedding plans infinitely inspired, and pin every bit inside The Vault.

From the Bride, Leven… I really wanted my wedding to have an ethereal, bohemian elegance to it. I was so inspired and elated once I found the venue, Le San Michele in the tiny town of Buda, Texas. Virginia, the owner, has turned her home and property into an adorable, unique, modern shabby church paradise with hints of European elegance. I immediately fell in love with all the lighting fixtures she had in the trees and the Moroccan lamps that scatters the property. The gardens added a romantic feel, too.

I wanted earthy Pastel tones more appropriate for a spring wedding, but I didn’t care! I knew exactly what I wanted down to every detail and my planners and florists nailed it. When I arrived, my breath was taken away at how accurately they were able to make my vision come to life! It was small and intimate and absolutely perfect.

The Karaoke on the back patio after a delicious dinner was SUCH a hit! We sang, danced, and partied until the wee hours! Numerous guests have told me it was the best and most beautiful wedding they’d ever been to, and that it was like a fairytale! And that’s exactly what I was going for, so I’m very happy!
