From the Groom… Meaghan and I met in college; she was two years behind me in school. The first things I noticed about Meaghan were her beauty, her sense of humor, and that she liked sports. I knew I liked her from the first time we met but it took her a little while to realize she liked me. After getting turned down the first couple times I asked, she finally came around and a few months later we started dating. Our lives took us to other cities for a few years and it made staying in a relationship a challenge. But we made it and in 2015 we finally moved to the same city of Charlottesville, Virginia. It was February 2016 on the day I decided I wanted to propose to Meaghan and I wanted to do it right away. I called Meaghan’s mom Colleen and told her I wanted to have her family be there when I proposed. On Meaghan’s birthday, April Fool’s Day, her family and my family traveled in secrecy to Charlottesville to surprise her. They were situated on a rooftop deck on the downtown mall, and Meaghan and I were walking below. I got down on one knee… She said YES and the crowd went wild. I love so many things about Meaghan: her patience, her kind heart, her sense of humor, and how she puts other people’s feelings before herself. She is beautiful inside and out and there is no doubt I am the luckiest man on earth.

From Meredith Sledge… I’ve been staring at my computer screen for a while now not knowing how to express everything I feel for this precious couple and their absolutely flawless wedding day. I met Meaghan and Craig not too long ago for their engagement session at Ash Lawn Highland and I truly had so much fun at their shoot that I was sad when it ended. Their love for each other is SO evident in the way they interact and treat each other and it was the sweetest thing to watch as I photographed them. I was glad when we said goodbye that evening that I’d get to see them again a few months down the road for their wedding. Meeting my couples at the engagement session automatically makes me feel so much more connected to them and helps me tell the story better so it made me all the more excited for their wedding.

Those few months flew by faster than I thought possible and before I knew it I was driving to Mount Ida Lodge to celebrate with them on the most gorgeous fall day! I knew when Meaghan told me she was working with Cody of Amore Events, along with a slew of other amazing vendors, that her day would be stunning and I was right. The second I started shooting details that morning, my heart exploded from all the gorgeous things I was given to photograph! I especially had way too much fun styling her amazing invites by Momental Designs – what a dream!

After shooting details, we went over to the Lodge for the rest of the day. Meaghan got dressed there at the bridal suite surrounded by her ten gorgeous bridesmaids in their incredible black gowns and her family members who made me feel like I was adopted for the day. Haha! Honestly, Meaghan and Craig’s entire day was so heartfelt and memorable. Everything from Meaghan’s dad seeing her for the first time to the first look to the toasts that evening that had EVERYONE crying, made their day one that I will never forget.

I can’t go on without sharing about a moment that happened at their reception that night that really meant a lot to me and spoke volumes about how this couple cares for people. Everyone had been dancing the night away for a couple hours and the Carpe Donut truck was outside so I asked if I could pull Meaghan and Craig out really quick to take a shot of them in front of it. I told them I’d be quick so they could get back to their reception and guests. As we were walking outside, I was a little bit in front of them about to get my light set for the shots and I hear Meaghan stop and say, “You’re kidding!! Tell Meredith!” So I turned around and see them stopped in the hallway, Craig holding a dime in his hand. Craig lost his dad when he was younger and he shared with me about pennies from heaven, which is where people who have lost a loved one often find pennies (or in Craig’s family’s case – dimes) in really sentimental moments, reminding them of the person who is no longer with them. Craig told me there were numerous times when dimes had been found on really meaningful days, like his proposal to Meaghan. And a few minutes before we went out to take that photo, a friend of his had found a dime on the floor at their wedding. So I was standing there holding back tears not only because that’s an incredible story but also because Meaghan and Craig stopped everything they were doing to share that piece of their lives with me, in no hurry to get back to their reception. It told me a lot about who they are. Little moments like that when my couples care enough to invite me into their lives on a more personal level is why I love what I get to do.

This Engagement Session Might Break Pinterest, It’s So Pretty

When Rebecca Yale Photography and a stunning vineyard like Gainey are involved, you know whatever it is will be gorgeous. Add in these two cuties with their sweet smiles and classic style, and you’ve got an engagement session so inspiring that it will quite likely break Pinterest.

Claire and Adam chose to do their engagement session in Santa Ynez – one of their favorite weekend getaways from Los Angeles. They share a love of wine, so Gainey’s scenic vineyards made the perfect backdrop for the first location. The stunning grounds of Kestrel Park made for the perfect second location, as they’re reminiscent of the chateau in France the couple will be saying their “I Dos” at next summer.

Organic, Soft, Minimalist… And Oh So Magical!

I’ve been to the 1Hotel in Miami before so when this Bride stated that her and her future hubby were inspired by its gorgeous space… I knew exactly what she meant (it’s stunning to say the least). With that style in mind, they went ahead creating a wedding that was minimalist yet so magical. Kate Ignatoskwi captured it all for our lucky eyes – see more pics below and in our gallery right this way!

From the Bride… To be honest, when we started thinking about planning our wedding, all we knew was that we wanted to throw an awesome party and have a vibe that would be true to us as a couple: simple and fun!

While we are both coincidentally from Singapore, Andrew and I were set up on a blind date here in NYC and knew we wanted to celebrate somewhere in the city (also for the convenience factor!). We had went on vacation to Miami where we stayed at the 1Hotel and were obsessed with the space: minimalist, eco-friendly, and truly thoughtful service. When we found out they would be opening a 1Hotel by the Brooklyn Bridge in 2017, we knew that would be the perfect venue for our wedding. During our first visit to the event space, we wore construction hats in the dead of winter, but could already tell that it would be beautiful upon completion. The actual event space was even more beautiful than we had imagined, with marble, concrete and wood embedded with lush greenery.

Our personal aesthetic is modern: I love neutral tones, greys, asymmetry, and natural light. We left most of the actual planning to my super helpful planner, Melissa, who was able to take our idea of a “minimalist space” and turn it into a reality. On the day itself, the weather turned out perfect, and we were able to do our ceremony semi-outside overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge in front of a cool floral installation on the rocks by our fantastic florist Bourgeon. The wedding day itself flew by because we were having SO much fun with our family and friends! Fortunately, we have the most beautiful photographs by Kate to remember ALL the moments. The food, drinks, cake, service were all amazing – everyone was happily fed and hydrated. :)

A Seaside Affair Where the Bride and Groom First Vacationed

Their first road trip ever took them to a romantic light house at Castle Hill Inn so naturally when it came time to pick a venue, this duo set their sights on that very spot in Rhode Island. Combining the beauty of the seascape with classic New England details and a pretty pastel color palette, this Newport celebration captured by Sally Pinera will make you fall head over heels for the Ocean State.

From the Bride…

The Planning

Sean and I started dating in New York City almost three years ago, and since then it’s been just non-stop traveling every moment (and vacation days) we can spare. Our first road trip ever ended up being Newport, Rhode Island when we knew nothing of the place. There we randomly discovered this romantic lighthouse at Castle Hill Inn, and since then we joked about getting married there, and who knew it would become reality!

We always wanted a destination wedding so it can be a more intimate smaller group with a casual rustic vibe where our family and friends can just chill and enjoy themselves surrounded by nature like they just came on vacation. And I wanted it to be a bohemian style wedding so a Malibu winery felt perfect for this since I’m from California as well. But as I was planning without a wedding planner, we decided it was best to bring it back to the East Coast.

After some talks with Castle Hill Inn, we were lucky enough to get the perfect date on September 8th to turn it into a boho rustic Malibu winery with an entirely alfresco ceremony and reception (apparently first time ever for them to have the reception outdoors) with romantic bistro lights strung all across the lawn. Just the dancing would have to be inside the tent due to Rhode Island’s sound regulations, which turned out to be great so our guests can fully enjoy their dinner before moving inside the tent to dance.

I knew the photographer was the most important to bring that California light into the picture. Sally Pinera was perfect for the task and she delivered above and beyond our expectations and definitely brought the California sunshine onto Castle Hill Inn. We also wanted to be very minimalist with the details thereby enhancing the vintage, rustic bohemian vibe using minimal flowers with more greenery and candle lights to accentuate the natural beauty of the place. And as our theme was “Life is a journey best traveled together,” we had a world map as our guest book, vintage suitcases as the card holder and commissioned a vintage VW 77 Photo Bus as our photo booth, which our guests absolutely adored and lined up for.

The Ceremony

What was so special about our ceremony was that all of our close friends and family participating in it made it such an intimate affair. My close college friend flew over all the way from Germany and performed such a memorable ceremony for us and my high school friends’ four beautiful kids (who are all 1/4 Korean by the way) added the perfect bohemian touch with their flower crowns and Moroccon oversized baskets (just the two year old got a bit fussy and refused to wear them but at the end at least she walked down the aisle! Whew!). Our mothers provided the last touch with our Korean heritage by wearing the traditional Korean Hanbok bursting with color amongst the nude palette of the wedding party.

The Reception

We had the most romantic dinner, dining under the stars and danced our First Dance to “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor under the bistro lights with the blessing of all of our loved ones surrounding us. Our wedding favor was High-Grade Tie Guan Yin Green Tea directly brought in from Shanghai by my Matron of Honor and had a Gourmet Espresso Bar for all of our guests as we are coffee and tea lovers and our guests all seasoned New Yorkers (or from a metropolitan city all over the world) like us with sophisticated taste in coffee and tea.

Ultimately, we just wanted to make sure we had a memorable, intimate experience with the people we love and that they have the best time, amazing food and good music to remember it by. So we asked them to wear flats instead of heels and be more casual in their attire so they can dance to the best DJ (we picked a real DJ instead of a wedding DJ) all night with a very personalized playlist handpicked by my husband himself.

5 Ways to Help Define Your Wedding Theme

Choosing a wedding theme may seem daunting because you’re officially putting a stamp on the overall look and feel of your wedding day. The theme can dictate the dresses, the venue, the food, the music, and the décor.

It seems intimidating but it’s totally fun and can be seamless with these five steps.

Stay True to You
At the end of the day, a wedding is a chance to reflect your own personal style and the relationship you and your future spouse have. Use that to your advantage to highlight the things that make you two a beautiful couple. If you two LOVE adventure and want a destination wedding… do it! It’s ultimately up to the two of you and what makes you most comfortable and happy. Of course, you want to be hospitable to guests but they’ll love the personal touch you add to the wedding.

Define Your Couple Style
Are you and your future spouse very romantic and traditional? Perhaps you’ll want a romantic glam wedding with a church ceremony and a ballroom reception! Or perhaps you two are very sporty and love the outdoors… maybe a ceremony on a golf course overlooking the ocean with a tented reception on a warm summer evening would be best!? It’s all about the two of you and a wedding day that brings out the special side of your relationship that make you two unique.

Re-Live Important Memories
Using a memory of how you met, how you got engaged, your first date, or where you went to college together all tie a special meaning to the wedding theme. Maybe your first date was at a carnival on a warm summer night where you shared your first kiss on a ferris wheel and ate cotton candy. Have a cotton candy bar at your wedding and a popcorn machine with a whimsical tea length wedding dress and white balloons filling the reception venue. These tiny details that are a special memory in your relationship can be so fun to feature at your wedding.

Think of Your Favorite Things
At the end of the day, the most simple way to choose your wedding theme is to start with the basics… think of your favorite things. My favorite colors are blush and gold, and my favorite place in the world is the shores of Lake Michigan. And so a beachy wedding was born. It can be that easy. Think of the people, places, and things that make you the happiest and the wedding theme will quickly follow.

Look In Your Closet
This is the truest way to figure out what your style is. Are your clothes romantic, modern, earthy, eclectic, outdoors-y, preppy, or glamorous? If you look at your clothes, you’ll most likely notice a pattern. This is an honest way of defining your style and finding what you feel most comfortable in. And of course, you want to be the most comfortable on your wedding day.

Choosing a theme for your wedding allows everything else to fall into place. As long as it’s true to you and your future spouse, you can’t go wrong.

The Notebook Has Nothing On This Southern Wedding Shoot

From a romantic boat ride to start off the special day, to an evening celebration under the Avenue of Oaks at Boone Hall, this wedding inspiration shoot never fails to deliver. With plenty of pretty in between – we’re talking a bouquet to die for and a brunch that leaves us longing – Hannah Alyssa captured it all. The team that put this all together – including WED, Fox Events, Poppy Custom Florals, Explore Charleston and more – hit it out of the park; can y’all get together more often? We like what we see

From Hannah Alyssa Photography… Our editorial tells the story of Everly and Grayson, who escaped to Charleston, South Carolina for an intimate celebration surrounded by 270-year-old live oaks draped with Spanish moss and the timeless beauty of the South.

Following a romantic morning boat ride, they enjoyed a Southern-inspired brunch on The Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation, complete with candied pecan sticky buns, red velvet waffles and buttermilk biscuits. Incorporated into the décor were the just released, second collection of gilded bugs from the Goldbug Collection at Croghan’s Jewel Box, a third generation gleaming boutique on King Street.

The groom donned a unique Brackish bowtie, handcrafted in Charleston, where each feather is hand selected, along with attire from M. Dumas & Sons, who is celebrating 100 years in service this year.

In the evening, the newlyweds celebrated with a small group of family and friends under the Avenue of Oaks (an unprecedented event) while sipping Market Blueberry Mint Juleps to the sounds of bluegrass tunes by The Bluestone Ramblers.

This Vow Renewal Is Why We Love Love

John and Abigail were married in a beautiful Virginia wedding, but for a number of reasons, they had to keep things simple. Three years later, they decided to renew their vows on their anniversary, this time adding in elements that reflected their unique journey as a couple with the help of Rachel Slauer Weddings. From the special story behind the sari Abigail donned to the choice of venue (read about both below!), every detail photographed by Abigail Malone was full of thought and meaning. And this, ladies and gents, is exactly why I love my job.

John and Abigail Pothen were married in the summer of 2014 in a small Virginia chapel. Their wedding was beautiful, but with John entering medical school, they had to keep it simple. For their third wedding anniversary, the couple decided to renew their vows. Only this time, they were able to add the details that reflect their unique story.

That story began just a couple of years before their wedding. Both John and Abigail are passionate about improving lives through healthcare across the globe. In her last year of training to become a nurse, Abigail traveled to India to study. Little did she know, her future husband was already there for a long term research project. They were introduced through mutual friends and had their first date on a long train ride. When the train came to a stop 30 hours later, they wanted more time together. They spent the rest of the month exploring the country, and as they did, they began to fall for one another. On one of their last dates in India, as they strolled through the streets of Mumbai, John and Abigail ducked into a sari shop. Abigail was enchanted by the soft fabrics and the rich colors. Her plane ride home was only a few days away, and the spending money she had allowed herself for her trip was just about out. She turned to leave, but John stopped her, offering to buy one of the prettiest saris in the shop as a gift. Abigail knew in this moment that their feelings for one another would continue on when they returned to the States.

Abigail’s gown on their wedding day two years later was perfect, but it didn’t tell the whole story. At their vow renewal, she decided to change into the sari John had given her, highlighting this piece of their story as well as John’s heritage. As a venue, they chose the gardens of a restaurant that quickly became their favorite date spot upon moving to Atlanta, the place they bring their parents during visits, the place they enjoy cocktails and laughter and honest conversation with friends, the place they retreat to when they want to forget the rest of the world and focus solely on one another. So, on their anniversary, they renewed these beautiful vows they made to one another three years ago:

“I vow to become your closest friend and confidante, your faithful partner through good and bad times, a supporter of your dreams and passions, your biggest fan and a believer in your future potential. I vow to encourage you, to be honest with you, to be gracious towards you, to love you in all circumstances, and to seek reconciliation in times of conflict. I ask you, God, to sustain our marriage through the power of your grace – a perfect love given without reservation to those who do not deserve it.”

Mountain Views Are Always a Good Idea

Majestic mountains are always a good idea for a wedding ceremony backdrop – just take a look at this Asheville celebration captured by Katherine Miles Jones. The team at Gather Together drew inspiration from the raw beauty of the setting, incorporating the colors and textures of the mountain range into everything from the invitations to the blooms by Floressence Flowers. Samantha, a pharmacology PhD candidate, and Josh, an energy engineer, were college sweethearts at Clemson University in South Carolina. They chose Asheville, their favorite vacation destination, for guests from the Midwest and South Carolina to come together and celebrate their wedding. The wedding became a bit of reunion for many of their closest college friends.

Samantha and Josh both experienced significant losses of family members in recent years. Through tragedy, they found home in each other, and on their wedding day, the spirit of their loved ones was felt in the stillness of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The couple wanted the best of both worlds: mountain views for the ceremony and a reception in downtown Asheville so they could go out and enjoy the town after the wedding. While we love the North Carolina mountains in the fall, our favorite time is when they’re still green, mid-September, when the heat is just starting to melt away.

Samantha’s style was classic and organic – everything from her dress to the flowers felt refined yet playful and fitting for the mountain atmosphere. Her embroidered illusion bodice Hayley Paige dress was absolutely breathtaking. Invitations featured rose gold foil and watercolored scenes reminiscent of the mountain setting. Ceremony details were designed to highlight the beauty and color of the mountains by pulling in organic textures and a cool color palette with fall tones. A floral drenched arbor stood at the end of an aisle framing the stunning horizon. Textured organza linens covered cocktail tables set on the porch and lawn before the ceremony, fluttering with every breeze.

The reception echoed the organic feel of the outdoor ceremony. Patterned linens and lush florals were brought into the cool downtown space, set in the heart of Asheville. A giant floral chandelier was a focal point in the room and extended across the entire head table. Their band was only four members, but they had the presence of an entire rock show. At one point in the night, they mixed Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd) into Country Grammar (Nelly) and the crowd went wild. From the calm serene mountains at the ceremony, to the luxe and upbeat reception scene, Samantha and Josh’s wedding was a celebration that felt like everyone was family!

They Wed at the Place He Proposed + It’s Beautiful

On a family vacation at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, Will proposed to Katie during a romantic walk on the beach, and then he surprised his bride-to-be again by flying her parents out to celebrate with them! With their fond memories of the trip, the couple couldn’t imagine a better venue than The Ritz for their wedding day, so they recruited the help of J Low Events to create a classic outdoor ceremony complementary to the beauty of the resort– think soft colors inspired by the sea infused with timeless elegance. Catherine Hall Studios, Julie Morgan Hair and Makeup, Lucky Devils Band, La Tavola Fine Linen Rental, and so many more were on hand to make this gorgeous day a reality, and the result is one of those weddings that will never go out of style.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/185409822 600 338]

As the old adage goes: When there’s a will, there’s a way. And for Will and Katie, this saying couldn’t have been truer. The couple, who are both lawyers, met as students at Baylor Law School. Will was in his second year when he spotted Katie during her first-year class orientation. He knew immediately that he had to meet her. When he saw Katie again just a few days later, he went up to introduce himself. The rest was history.

When it came to popping the question, Will was determined once again; this time, he wanted to sweep Katie off her feet. During a vacation with his family at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, Will suggested the two take a walk on the beach, but he had much more than just a stroll in mind. As they walked, Will suddenly stopped, pulled out a ring, and got down on one knee. Happily, Katie said, “Yes!” Little did she know, Will had one more surprise up his sleeve. He arranged for Katie’s parents to fly out to California so that they could celebrate with the newly engaged couple.

With all the special memories it held, it was only natural that the couple returned to The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay for their big day. Working with planner Jen Lowrance of J Low Events, they dreamt up a classic outdoor wedding that took inspiration from the serene, simplistic beauty of Half Moon Bay. Full blooms of white roses lined the aisle and anchored the tablescapes, while touches of gold and a hint of pale sea blue complemented the ocean backdrop and the verdant green golf course.

Katie walked down the aisle in a Monique Lhuillier dress, which she accessorized with her mother’s pearl and diamond earrings (her “something borrowed”) and a beautiful, sapphire ring, gifted from her mother. Katie’s bridesmaids wore floor length J. Crew dresses in the softest shade of blue. Will and his groomsmen sported classic black suits and bowties, plus white rose boutonnieres.

Beneath an archway of lush roses, Will and Katie exchanged vows in front of family and friends. The ceremony symbolized their new union, combining Will’s Catholic upbringing and Katie’s Methodist background. They had a Methodist-style ceremony and brought in Will’s godfather to officiate it, and they also invited Will’s family’s priest to stand at the altar and give a closing prayer. “It meant so much to our families that our cultures and traditions could collide in such an amazing way on our wedding day,” Katie said.

Playful, personalized details also made the special day all the more memorable. Inspired by The Ritz’s golf course, the duo served a spiked Arnold Palmer as their signature drink. In lieu of a traditional groom’s cake, they had a “Groom’s Sundae Bar,” featuring Will’s favorite dessert.

Amidst the excitement of the big day, Katie paused to take everything in — a thoughtful piece of advice that she shares with other brides-to-be. Her favorite memory? “Seeing Will smile at me as I was walking down the aisle.”

This Candlelit Reception Will Stop You Dead in Your Tracks

Modern design lovers, you are in for a treat. This downtown Austin wedding comes baring gifts of edison bulb installation type proportions and it’s so, so good. Designed by Westcott Weddings and Clementine Botanical Art, see how Texas is bringing modern glamour to 800 Congress. See it all unfold, including a show-stopping Oscar de la Renta number, through stunning images by The Nichols.

This city wedding was perfectly classic and modern, with a show stopping Oscar De La Renta dress. Annie and Andrew were married in style in a beautiful ceremony at historic St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Austin. After they said their “I do’s”, their guests were welcomed into a romantic, candlelit reception, with draping greenery, while classic black and white movies ala Audrey Hepburn played on the back wall. While the bridesmaids bouquets incorporated jewel-toned pops of colors, they kept the color palette clean and classic for the reception decor with whites and lots of green, which brought the industrial space with exposed brick to life and created such a cozy atmosphere. After Annie and Andrew’s grand entrance, their guests dined and toasted at long family-style tables, then danced the night away in the magical setting. This downtown wedding struck the perfect balance of classic, modern, and romantic. Such a joy to document!

How to Handle Invasive Wedding Planning Questions with Grace

We’ve all been there; the moment you undergo a major life change people suddenly come out of the woodwork and are convinced that your personal business is headline news. While it is encouraging to feel supported and cared for, the line to invasive and pushy can easily be crossed. From the moment you get engaged the story is generally the very same.

Today we’re sharing some tips and sample responses to help you handle those pesky and invasive wedding planning questions with grace and patience.

Why do you want to get married so young?

This question is likely coming from a well-intentioned, but over-involved, person who perceives themselves to be older and wiser. At the end of the day, this is your life and the timeline matters to no one but you and your partner. Feel free to simply dodge the question and let them know you’re thrilled you found someone you love and are excited to get married.

Are you sure you’re ready?

Most likely, a question like this is a projection of the inquiring person’s personal fears about their readiness for marriage and commitment. To leave no room for debate simply exude confidence and say, “Absolutely! We’re both very much in love and excited to start the next chapter together.”

Is that the ring you wanted?

This may be a snide way of saying they think the ring is too small, too gaudy, or simply not their style. Whatever the case, a comment like this is likely an outlet for jealousy over the fact that you’ve been proposed to and are enjoying an exciting season of engagement. While it is certainly your right to show off the ring your partner just gave you, if the conversation is giving you negative vibes, feel free to steer the conversation away from the ring and towards your elation about your relationship and engagement.

Who’s paying for all this?

This question tops the list of bad etiquette, yet people seem to keep asking it. Maybe they’re surprised by the nice details you’re including in the wedding, or they could be wondering how your parents are affording to host the wedding you’re planning. Either way, their question is not one you have to answer unless you want to. Simply let them know that information is between you and your partner and that you would rather not share.

Am I going to be invited to the wedding?

While this question may be tactless, you’re sure to encounter it from an excited distant cousin or nosy co-worker. While there isn’t much subtext to decipher with this question, it is tricky to navigate how to answer them. It is better to not prolong giving them an answer by responding with a vague comment about not having finalized the guest list. Instead, be honest with them. If they’re not invited, let them know you’re sticking to a tight budget and that you are your fiancé have had to make some tough choices with who to invite. Graciously thank them for their enthusiasm but don’t feel the need to placate them with a lot of half-hearted excuses about your guest list.

When are you going to have kids?

After people have started asking about your current life developments they are always so eager to move on to what they perceive as your next suggested life stage. Curiosity about baby plans is natural, but their blunt openness is certainly tricky to navigate. Even if you and your partner have a clear plan or timeline in mind, feel free to be vague in your response to this question. Let them know you’re taking things one step at a time and are excited for the wedding, but you look forward to being parents one day.

While we hope you don’t have to field many of these questions, you may, unfortunately, encounter a few of them. Hopefully, now you’ll be a bit better prepared to answer with grace and ease! Remember to not let nosy questions get you down and take time to enjoy the excitement of your engagement!

A Classic Southern Wedding – With Some Fabulously Fun Touches Added In!

I’m all for a classic Southern celebration any day of the week but when it’s infused with personal details and fabulously fun touches. You too? Well, look no further than this Amy Arrington gallery of gorgeousness. From the wine corks to the going away outfit on our beautiful Bride, it’s a wedding to remember and be inspired by – see it all right this way!

From the Bride… Drew and I have been going to school together since middle school (6th grade!), but we didn’t start dating until we were Juniors at Wake Forest University. We have been so fortunate to have an amazing group of friends and family support us in this journey from friends, to dating, through engagement, and now in marriage. We really wanted our wedding day to be a true celebration of our past and what brought us together, and what our future holds. Mostly, we wanted to have a great evening and we wanted everyone to have fun with us. The number one recommendation I would make to a bride would be to hire someone to help you plan and execute on the day-of. I had been a bridesmaid in a wedding that TOAST planned, and the bride was the most relaxed I had almost ever seen her – and they handled everything. I knew immediately that I wanted to be the same way, and to arrive on my wedding day having given all the details over to a trusted partner. We hired TOAST, and Kerri and I laughed throughout the process about only making decisions which would enable me to be “cool as a cucumber” and we succeeded – I had the best day because I was so relaxed, I knew they had everything under control! At the beginning of the planning process, I had a few strong opinions about certain elements, and then I wanted to allow my vendors to take the reins from there – they are the experts! Kerri and I had a great brainstorming session where we, along with my Mom, talked through the vision: a great celebration that combined beautiful and classic Southern colors and traditions with some modern updates and personalization.

Kerri connected us with great vendors who are incredibly talented and wonderful to work with. They immediately understood my vision for the style of the wedding – Lisa at Paper Daises and Gabi at Edge Design made my loose conception and ideas of what I was looking for into a reality – more perfectly than I could have ever imagined. They understood and helped us maintain the balance between a more updated look that reflects our style and a traditional black tie Southern wedding. When it came to the day of the wedding, our amazing vendors took care of everything and we were able to enjoy every moment – which is evident in the beautiful photos that Amy and Brandon (Amy Arrington Photography) took. Amy and Brandon were able to perfectly deliver our need for more traditional, posed wedding photos of extended family, but also offer their beautiful artistic eye and use of light to take photos where everyone looks amazing and not “stiff.” We will enjoy their images forever.

We cannot say enough great things about our band, the Atlanta Showstoppers, who had everyone on the dance floor until the very end of the evening. They played the perfect mix of oldies for swing dancing and upbeat pop songs, which appealed to the whole crowd. They ensured my vision of a great celebration (i.e. a really fun party) was a reality! At the reception, instead of a traditional guest book for signatures, we had blank corks and asked everyone to sign a cork. Drew and I save the corks from bottles of wine we drink on special occasions and with special friends and family. He used our cork collection when he proposed, so we loved including this element in our wedding. Lisa (Paper Daises) and Gabi (Edge Design) created a beautiful area of vases and pictures to tell this story – and now we have a whole bowl of corks from our wedding guests which we’ve added to our collection! We also opted for a “grooms cake” that was an ice cream bar, because Drew LOVES ice cream. This was a great choice because late June in Atlanta guarantees hot and humid weather, and most of our guests were very interested in a bowl of ice cream! Chef Christophe Joignant and the team at Capital City did a beautiful job with all the food and I loved collaborating with them on the flavors and location of our “grooms cake” ice cream and cookies station! My mom loved her going away outfit and I wanted to embrace the classic tradition myself. So I changed before the evening ended into a shorter white cocktail dress. Not only was it a fun nod to tradition and my mom’s outfit change, but it was a surprise! I’d kept my dress a secret, and only a few people knew I was planning to change at all, so it was fun for me to have a little reveal! It also turned out to make my last few moments on the dance floor the most fun I had, as my short going away dress was much more comfortable for dancing and departing than my long and heavy wedding dress!

Bumble Bees + Subtle Stripes for a Sweet Wedding Day

Inspired by the soft stripes found throughout The Omni Homestead Resort and the bumble bees found in the upholstery of the lobby chairs, Lemon & Lime Event Design created the most darling celebration for this Southern couple. From the vintage bee pins to the Hayley Paige gown (another nod to the stripes!), Lisa Ziesing for Abby Jiu Photography was there to capture every inspired detail. Plus, Monachetti Weddings caught the whole day on film, but we’re warning you –  it’s sweeter than a peach.

From Lemon & Lime Event DesignA Virginia gal and a Kentucky gent meet in…Baltimore!? Our southern clients, now living up North, paid homage to their roots in a lovely June Southern celebration at The Homestead Resort in Virginia. The bride, Whitney, grew up vacationing at The Homestead with her family, so it was more than a wedding venue, but a place that already held decades of traditions for her and her family. The groom, Kelly, is a golf pro, so it worked out very well with The Homestead having a great course. We also incorporated vintage golf stamps and custom Under Armour hats made for the tournament held the day before the wedding.

Whitney owns Bella Bridesmaids in Baltimore, so we’ve known and worked with Whitney for years. When she reached out for us to plan her wedding, we couldn’t have been be more excited. She has helped so many of our brides put together the look and palate for their bridesmaid dresses and now it was her turn. She carefully selected the most lovely palate for her bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, and flower girls, mixing green hues with the littlest ladies in floral prints.

We pulled in elements of the Homestead throughout the design to honor some of her favorite memories and details found around the resort. The bees (found in the upholstery in the lobby chairs, which she loved as a kid) in addition to soft stripes found throughout the resort on couches and wallpaper became the driving factors of the design. The bride also chose her gorgeous Hayley Paige gown based off those stripe accents as well. Photosynthesis floral brought our vision to life so perfectly with her bright and beautiful blooms. One of our favorite details was the boxwood bees she created for part of the cocktail hour space. The invitation suite from Anchor Point Paper was one of Whitney’s favorite details, and she collected vintage golf and bee stamps for months in addition to vintage bee pins!

The forecast was calling for rain during the ceremony, so we made the call to move inside. Although that rain never ending up happening, between the natural lit space at The Homestead and Photosynthesis’s florals down the aisle and surrounding the bride and groom, it made for the most beautiful Plan B!

The couple’s custom crest was used throughout the wedding and we gave this classic detail a bit of a twist and used the crest in 3D form at the ceremony and on the cake. We also had Lumina Embroidery recreate the crest onto napkins for the sweetheart table as a surprise to the couple!

Lisa from Abby Jiu Photography captured the day so beautifully, and we’ll never tire looking through her stunning images. Lisa perfectly styled and captured all of the details that were so important to the bride.

A Chic Los Angeles Home Designed in Just One Week

Ever wonder what a designer’s own home looks like? If Beatrice’s digs are any indication, those spaces are on point. As the co-founder of Hutch, a brilliant home decor app, she knows a thing or two about crafting gorgeous rooms and her own beach meets eclectic Los Angeles apartment is the proof. And she gets extra brownie points for whipping it together in one week. One week! Take the full tour below.

Beatrice Fischel-Bock is the CEO & Co-Founder of Hutch, the home decor app that that mixes 3D technology with online shopping to let you virtually redecorate your home. Bea recently redesigned her Los Angeles Spanish-style bungalow, which she completed using Hutch – and in one week! Bea browsed the array of content and various Hitch filters to spark her design inspiration. The game changer was swapping out different, specific products as she was able to visualize different styles and looks for each of her rooms in her own space.

This lead to the end result, which has now inspired three new Hutch design filters:
Petite Boudoir Bedroom | Collected Feminine Living RoomTextured Tulum Dining Room

Bea’s living room is all about the ensemble. She spiced up a crisp linen sofa with patterned pillows and a textured throw, and adorned surfaces like consoles and mantles with accent decor so each has its moment. Bea tied it together with a vintage-style rug while photos, plants and collected pieces serve as the perfect finishing touches.

From Bea…I moved into this house in September 2015. I was originally drawn to the beach and only looked for places in Venice but then came across this amazing home in West Hollywood. It had so much character and was perfect for what I was looking for. I really wanted a place that had some integrity, and especially a place that was very California.

I would say my design style is California contemporary collected. I gravitate towards neutrals for key pieces and like to bring in color with accents and art. My goal was to create a space where I could relax and unwind.

My mom is an artist so I have picked up art throughout the years from my travels and visiting local flea markets. So some personal pieces of hers are mixed in as well. I used Hutch to find the newer art, and mixed and matched styles and mediums to give the wall a collected feel. Not everything may go perfectly for everyone, but art is truly personal and I surround myself with pieces that make me happy.

Here’s How To Keep the Cozy Vibe After You Pack Away the Holiday Decor.

Does anyone else feel like their home looks a little bare when the tree comes down and the stockings get packed away? I always feel a slight twinge of sadness when all of the merry goes back into their boxes, but I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeves to still keep things cozy and happy, nonetheless. Here’s to a little New Year pampering for our abodes!

Layer on the love.

Just because the mistletoe gets packed away doesn’t mean cozy exits stage left. When you’re feeling like everything is a little bare, layer on a couple of extra pillows and throws in varying textures and shades to add interest.

Wintry Comforts

That cozy vibes don’t solely come from your holiday decor. Merriment comes in many forms, including hot chocolate dates! Break out that cup of cheer when you need to.

Don’t say goodbye to ALL the greens.

Completely UN-decking the halls will surely lead to holiday withdrawals. Leave some of your greenery up and even consider replacing your Christmas tree with a larger green plant.

Revisit your vignettes.

A new year is time for a new look. When the holiday decor comes down, don’t revert to putting everything back in the same exact place—try some new vignettes! Restyle your coffee table, shelves, trays, etc.

Savor the season with scent.

Missing that heavenly Christmas tree scent? Keep those seasonal candles and diffusers going to stretch out the season and leave your home feeling just as merry as early December.

A Romantic, Week-Long Celebration in the Italian Countryside

From breathtaking rehearsal dinner to the most stunning grand finale, this wedding week is one for the books. But that’s to be expected of a destination affair in the wilds of Italy. Filled with panoramic views and feting under the stars at the hands of Weddings in Tuscany by Chiara Sernesi, live vicariously through and Ether & Smith’s gorgeous photographs.

From the Bride… I met Nico 8 years ago, in our last year of university in London. For some reason we had never crossed paths, but in one chance encounter everything changed, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

Nico and I grew up in 6 different countries between us, so when it came to deciding on the venue location, with people travelling in from over the globe, we wanted to pick somewhere that was a destination for all of us. Tuscany, Italy had a special place in our hearts. We had travelled here together before, and loved everything from its rolling hills, cypress-lined country roads, medieval hilltop villages, comfort cuisine and of course the vino!

After two trips around the region with Chiara and her amazing team, we chose Castello la Leccia as our main wedding venue. This was definitely the best decision we made. Francesco, the owner, was lovely, accommodating and very professional.

Some of our family members had never met so we made sure to plan many outings and dinners during the week of the wedding. By the time of our rehearsal dinner, friendships had formed and everybody was ready to party. This was not say that the week was stress free. With the threat of rain on our wedding day we had to consider a change of location for the reception. Nevertheless we pushed ahead with the original plan. Stay tune to find out how things unfolded…

Our rehearsal dinner was held at Villa Cerna, a Chianti winery belonging to the Cecchi family where we organized a wine tasting accompanied by traditional Tuscan meal. We had a smaller group of around 40 guests (mainly family and a few close friends), which made it a more relaxed and intimate setting, ahead of our big day.

More from the Bride… I woke up on our wedding day and ran to the window, and to my great delight the sky was blue and the sun was shining – I chuckled confidently, as I told Nico it will not rain today… After a lovely breakfast in bed, it was time to say goodbye to my soon-to-be husband, as I was whisked off for hair and make-up.

I resurfaced a few hours later, for our ‘first look’ photos, where Nico and I were able to make the most of the hour which preceded the ceremony for some couply pictures in and around the wedding venue. Our photographers Emma and Allen, had found some amazing backdrops, and helped make us feel really comfortable by talking us through her vision for the shots, the photo shoot turned out to be so much fun!

Now onto the ceremony! This was held on a hill, overlooking a scenic Tuscan panoramic view. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail reception in the garden, where we had similar views, and followed by an al fresco dinner under the stars. The night seemed to be going perfectly until shortly after our mains were served, and we could see a thunderstorm in the distance, which we felt was coming our way. An executive decision ensued, as Nico decided to skip desserts, as he delivered his speech, and asked our guests to head on over to the cake station. As we cut the cake, fireworks went off, and with strong winds this made the fireworks look even closer! As soon as the fireworks finished, the storm broke, and all our guests raced inside!

Our wedding planners, and staff at the venue and our chefs all helped rearrange things live. Dessert plates were passed along, as our guest filled the lobby, dining area and corridors! When the rain stopped for a few minutes, we jumped at the chance to get our first dance on, and our guests were quick to join us. The rain started pouring again, but at this point everyone wanted to keep dancing, so we partied in the rain, and just kept going!

All good things come to an end, and so the next day we had to say our farewells. On Sunday we hosted a farewell brunch, with all our guests dressed in white, which made the photos looks really fantastic!

Even though a lot of time went into planning (with help from many wonderful people!), the week was more than what we had imagined. It was truly an extraordinary experience, the best weekend ever as Nico put it. We are so thankful for all our guests who travelled from so far, and really came to party. We wish we could do it all over again, but instead we’ll keep reliving in our minds every memory, some of which are captured forever in the most amazing photographs.

A Gorgeous Multicultural Celebration: From Start to Finish (A Ballroom Transformed into a Wedding Wonderland!)

I write about weddings day in and day out but sometimes I’m just at a loss. And today is one of those days. But it’s not because I’m not inspired – it’s the opposite in fact. This wedding before me, well, I’m just in awe and obsessed and just want to look through every single one of Joseph Rogero’s pics over and over again. The color palette: perfect. The Bride: beyond beautiful. The ballroom: transformed into a wedding wonderland. I don’t even know what else to say… I’m head over heels. Hop on over to our gallery right this instant and join me in this love fest.

From Joseph Rogero… When the bride wanted a ballroom transformed into her ethereal wedding dream, Emily Claire Events did just that. With timeless imagery by Still55 Photography, gorgeous blooms from Forage Botanical, and a stunning lace BHLDN gown, this celebration can’t be missed!

From Emily Claire Events… It’s not hard to say that Deepak and Annabelle are one of the sweetest couples I have ever worked with. With the pair living out of state, we were unable to meet in person until a few weeks prior to their big day. Most of our collaboration was done over Skype where I spent many hours getting to know this lovely duo. It was obvious after our first conversation that they had a passion for travel, as well as their heritage, and we wanted to incorporate that into their wedding.

Annabelle initially had a vision of a dreamy outdoor wedding, but she already had a ballroom booked for her date because of logistical factors. We worked closely together to bring her vision to life by including loads of lush greenery and florals, setting up wedding party portraits to be captured in the gardens of the stunning historic Swan House, and integrating flowing white drapery and linens to lighten and brighten the venue space.

As for the travel inspiration, one of the couple’s favorite destinations is France, so we included macarons as a tribute in the welcome bags and little French details can be seen throughout the wedding styling. As an ode to the groom’s Indian heritage, the bride and bridesmaids had traditional Indian henna done after the rehearsal dinner. The bride’s family being from Vietnam, we served a delicious Asian ice cream alongside the wedding cake. It was truly enjoyed by all!

This Inspiration Shoot Is Everything We’re Dreaming of This Year

To all you pretties who got engaged this holiday season, congratulations, and let the wedding inspiration begin! There’s no better way to kick off 2018 than with this inspiration shoot. Dreamed up by The Nouveau Romantics and captured by the always brilliant lens of Jose Villa Photography, it’s everything we’re wanting in weddings for the new year and more. Think three ridiculously chic gowns, original yet uber-romantic bouquets by Running Wild Florals, and modern typography by K. Rawson that’ll have you obsessing. Get all the modern, minimal, monochromatic romance you’ve been craving right here in the full gallery.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/227570300 600 338]

From The Nouveau RomanticsIn its simplest form, this monochromatic editorial shoot took roots from the pleats, folds, and striking silhouettes of Toni Maticevski’s bridal gowns. Taking cues from the graceful simplicity of his dresses, the vision of a perfect venue emerged: a simple, all-white, concrete venue stands as the perfect backdrop for a couple looking to contrast a cool, monochromatic, and minimal space with the warmth of soft, romantic details for an inviting experience for their guests. Playing with transparency, layering, and subtle contrast became the conceptual foundation, while a mixed palette of white, cream, bone, with touches of dove grey and a hint of blush fleshed out the design direction inspiration.

Kaela Rawson’s paper goods set the stage with a simple yet striking modern design that saw a mix of white, cream, blush, and ochre papers that created a luxe experience with simple and cost effective digital printing. The physical decor and table design began with layered whites, creams, and bone from the oatmeal velvet table linen and ice white napkin from La Tavola, to the Casa De Perrin flatware and mix of white and ivory Creative Candle taper candles. Transparency and reflectivity via the acrylic candle holders, Casa de Perrin Charger, and Crate and Barrel glass plates created a beautiful and dynamic experience by reflecting the colors, textures, and candlelight as you moved across the table.

Running Wild Florals added the intricate and feminine details of romantic florals that contrasted perfectly with the simple and modern design. Her florals were a simple mix of cream roses, tulips, spray painted arctic white hellebores (which highlighted their shape), and blush anthuriums that tied together the blush Casa de Perrin glassware. Finally, Kaela Rawson’s custom designed menu added another shade of white with a dusty blush pink ink which was the perfect graphic pop to the entire table design.

The bridal fashion we selected for this editorial was grounded in the play of mixing architectural details with a delicate feminine detail – be it in the Heidi Gibson rings, the Running Wild Floral bouquets and ceremony florals, or the Costarellos tea-length lace gown. The mixing between simplicity and ornamentation is one of my favorite ways to create an elegant, sophisticated look. Overall, we are excited to see a trend of simpler, modern yet feminine designs grace the minds and weddings of brides in 2018!

3 Ways to Keep Your Holiday Glow All Winter Long

Let’s face it. Trying to take care of your skin in the winter always feels like a losing battle. Between the dry heat indoors, the bitter cold outside and recovering from umpteen holiday parties, your skin needs a break.

But glancing in the mirror doesn’t have to be that bleak this season. With a few simple skincare hacks, you can get that holiday glow back and keep it all winter long. Here are three tips to get you glowing.

Snack on Foods Rich in Vitamin E

Repairing dry, damaged winter skin is your number one priority right now. The healthier your skin, the better your skin can regulate and moisturize itself. Vitamin E is great for repairing skin. And bonus, it also helps to thicken hair and balance hormones. Basically, it’s your body’s best friend after all those holiday parties and snowy adventures.

Instead of grabbing holiday leftovers and treat, find snacks with almonds, spinach, avocado or sweet potatoes. Almond-based granola, spinach omelets, and avocado toast are all great ways to start your day. Eat up and watch your skin regain its bounce and glow.

Use Face Masks All Day E’ry Day

Okay, maybe not every day. But moisturizing facial masks are a game changer when it comes to skincare. They’re affordable, they come in multiple scents and are an easy alternative to clay masks applied with your hands.

Look for cloth or silk sheet masks. They’ll deliver the most moisture and come with other benefits depending on their ingredients. One pro tip: if your skin is extra sensitive, avoid masks with rose water. Though they’ll hydrate really well, they’ll also irritate your skin and there’s no time for that this season.

Reach for Lip Balm Instead of Gloss

Though it’s tempting to go straight for the dark lip during winter, start with a moisturizing base first. Applying lip balm or your favorite lip ointment underneath will keep your lips and the surrounding skin happy. Plus, it gives every lip color a super moist sheen. Keep an extra lip balm in your pocket, especially when you’re heading out the door.

With a little extra skincare this season, the bitter cold outside becomes a wintry wonderland to explore.
