Abby Loves…Red Bliss

Christine Traulich of RedBliss is, well…a genius. Her eye for design, her sense for great color and her insanely innovative work is beyond brilliant and as I am sure that she knows, Christine has been an incredible inspiration to me throughout my career. Even if her work is outside of your budget, check out her online gallery…the pictures alone are enough to make you jump for joy!

Oh, and we interviewed Christine a while back and she shared all about couture invitation design. A very fun read!

Bridesmaid Dresses by Saja

Lucky for us, Saja just launched a line of bridesmaids dresses and if you thought her wedding gowns were gorgeous, feast your eye on these little gems…

saja

Fun, flirty, feminine…everything a bridesmaid dress should be. Plus, they come in these gorgeous colors. I am loving the perfect green on the bottom right…loving it. The prices for these range from $299 to $550 so a little on the pricey side, but let’s be serious…you really COULD wear these again. It’s a good investment!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Saja for sharing these gorgeous designs with us!!

If you aren’t already familiar with Saja…you really need to be. Saja’s work is absolutely gorgeous…chic, whispy and totally elegant.

saja

I love that first dress so much (top left). It’s the perfect balance of structure and femininity…plus, it seems like it would be just as perfect for a pretty, backyard wedding as it would for a chic, modern affair.

And the best part? They are REALLY affordable. Ranging from $550 to $1625 (with most falling in the $550-$650 range), these gowns are just about as good as they get! Plus, Saja has FAB bridesmaids dresses…coming up soon!

Bridesmaids Dresses by Jenny Yoo

This is the last set of Jenny Yoo dresses and I have to say…they just might be the best! These are a bit more formal than the previous dresses I’ve featured today, but every bit as gorgeous!

jenny yoo

There are no words, really. The gorgeous colors, the oh-so-sophisticated silhouetes…perfection. Congratulations, Jenny, on an absolutely fabulous Fall collection. I only wish that I were getting married all over again!

Stay tuned, we have another featured designer coming up!

Bridesmaids Dresses by Jenny Yoo

In my opinion, these next dresses by Jenny Yoo, are just about perfect. They are pretty, they are elegant, they are simple and yet totally sophisticated…

jenn yoo

Choosing a bridesmaids dress that will suit every body type is, well…tough. For my own wedding, I had 10 (yes 10!!!) bridesmaids and each of them had a totally different body type. Looking back, I wish that I had chosen a Jenny Yoo creation, as she has such a huge range of fabrics, style and colors and as cliche as it might sound…there is just something for everyone.

These four dresses would look adorable mixed and matched on different bridesmaids.

So much more to come!

We are continuing on with “SMP’s Fashion Week” and I have to say…I am in love with Jenny Yoo’s Fall Fashions. I have actually been in love with Jenny’s work for a long time now and to be honest, it just keeps getting better and better.

These dresses are a little bit bold, a little bit flirty…

Jenny Yoo

How gorgeous are these? The deep aqua color, the sweet silhouettes…love, love, love them. I have so many more of Jenny’s designs on the way so stay tuned!

Abby Loves…Waterlily Pond

Waterlily Pond is one of those rare florists that approaches design with a truly architectural style. What I really love about Natasha’s work is that she seems to put the same TLC into a boutonniere that she puts into a centerpiece, so that the entire look just makes sense.  If you haven’t checked out her website lately, it’s a must see…especially her featured wedding section! Oh, and definitely re-visit this incredible real wedding that Natasha did a while back!

Real Wedding by Hitched

You guys are going to looooove this story from the girls at Hitched!

* * *

Contrary to popular belief, we rarely encounter “bridezillas” at Hitched… in fact, our brides are usually the complete opposite. We love our brides and always feel so honored to be a part of their special day – but there are some brides who we REALLY get to know because they do everything at Hitched (wedding gown, bridesmaids, invites, etc.) and we affectionately call those ladies FOH— Friends of Hitched.

One of our favorite FOH’s is Kimberly Joy Brown (now Moore J), who walked into our store for an appointment this past March and told us she needed a dress in two weeks (!). The Howard University med student went on to explain that she had just discovered she had breast cancer. Because she would be undergoing surgery, she wanted to bump up her Fall 2008 nuptials in order to have her dream wedding before she began treatment.

One small catch– she had no gown, no venue, and no photographer…. just a date in mind, and, of course, her wonderful groom, James! The Hitched team swung into action and started placing phone calls to some of our favorite vendors, all of whom were ready and willing to pull through in a pinch for Joy and James! While Joy happily chose the perfect gown and veil, a team of DC’s top wedding vendors were assembled to create Joy’s wedding vision. No one thought twice about making this wedding happen in just two short weeks.

We have to share some photos from the event— doesn’t it look like it took years to plan? Joy’s cherry blossom theme was perfect for springtime in the nation’s capitol. Check out the emotion that photographer Ralph Alswang captures in each photo… you can see why we love him so much!

It’s quite a rarity that we visit brides on their wedding day, but Hitched ladies Carin, her daughter Leia, and Lynette couldn’t resist stopping by to see the final outcome!

Joy’s bridesmaids wore adorable dresses from Simple Silhouettes in Strawberry Ice Silk Shantung. Simple Silhouettes is based in New York, and owner/designer Christina was able to have the dresses made and shipped in just a few days so the girls had time to get them altered before the big day.

We always loved Modern Trousseau for their beautifully unique use of lace. Now we love designer Callie Tien even more, because she created Joy’s stunning custom gown, matching bolero, and cathedral length veil in record time!

The folks at the Fairmont (a gorgeous hotel right in the heart of DC) really took care of Joy and James. Alice and Bob pulled the whole event together with total professionalism and the results were incredible.

We’re so glad to end our story on a happy note– Joy is doing well and her surgery went smoothly. She’s enjoying being married to “the love of her life”, James, who’s been so supportive throughout the past year. We still hear from Joy and think of her often…she will forever be a Friend of Hitched.

Thank You, thank you, thank you to the girls at Hitched Salon for sharing this amazing story with us! And for spending the day talking shop on SMP!!

More from the girls at Hitched Salon!

OK, we’ll admit it. We’ve got a crush on Reva Mivasagar’s bridal collection. His line is new to us here at Hitched (though he’s already quite established in the bridal industry), and we’re falling fast and hard for his exquisitely detailed gowns. What strikes us most are his silk organza dresses, where delicate embroidered patterns seem to melt right into the fabric.

The detail on the train of these gowns alone is mesmerizing!

Reva’s designs are elegant and romantic but have a sophisticated edge—perfect for the modern bride. His gowns are especially fitting for outdoor venues because the light, delicate fabrics create such beautiful movement.

We also love the unique necklines and silhouettes that Reva offers, giving all of his gowns such distinctive beauty.

Wedding Dress Trends by Hitched

We get a lot of requests on SMP for fashion related posts…and to be honest, we don’t write nearly enough about this topic! The dress that you choose on your wedding day is possibly the most exciting decision you’ll ever make so it should be something that is a constant here on SMP.

To get the ball rolling, I’ve enlisted the help of the girls at Hitched Salon in DC…they own one of the most chic, jump-up-and-down gorgeous shops around, so I am thrilled that they are here chatting about fashion trends!

* * *

As you can imagine, at Hitched we see a ton of different bridal gowns, and we never get tired of white dresses! However, we will admit that we love anything new and interesting that allows a bride to make her dress unique… which is why we’re so excited for the new trend of adding a beaded or embroidered belt to an otherwise simple gown to add some sophisticated flair. We’re loving the detachable belt options that are now being offered by designers like Lela Rose, Oscar de la Renta, and Modern Trousseau.

fashion trends

These eye-catching accessories can really enhance your wedding day look, and since most of them are removable, you can pick-and-choose when to add that extra bit of sparkle during your special day. We love the idea of adding a belt to your gown just for the reception, giving you a whole new, party-ready look.

We’ve even used accessories in non-traditional ways such as a knotted Erin Cole crystal organza headband around the waist of a fitted peau-de-soie Judd Waddell gown to create a totally unique look. Opening your eyes to creative accessory options can help you add just the right amount of pizazz to a gown that doesn’t already have a lot of embellishment. And feel free to be adventurous by mix-and-matching a belt from one designer with a gown from another, which will really make the look your own!

So much more to come!!

Thank you so much to Kiki for sharing her big day with us! It looks like wedding planning might be in your future! And to Ingrid at Myrtle and Marjoram for sending us the insanely gorgeous images. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Ingrid’s work, she is a must-have for any wedding. She also has tons of awe inducing inspiration on her website and her beautiful blog.

One last note…we have received a lot of inquiries about the gorgeous ribbon balls that Kiki crafted. She is going to send us a step-by-step DIY in a couple of weeks when she is back at home with all of her supplies, but in the meantime, you can shoot her an email for more info owl{at}happykoogether{dot}com. Also, check out the cute website that Kiki made for her wedding!

A few more magazine-worthy images from today’s featured wedding…

real wedding

all photographs by the lovely and talented Ingrid of Myrtle and Marjoram

Kiki let me know that her dress and veil were custom made for her in Hong Kong, as were those beautiful bridesmaid dresses. Although she designed her own cake (WOW), Beaux Gateaux executed it to perfection. And those flowers (sigh….) were designed by Arlene Boyle at Violetta Flowers.

I have to say, this wedding was flawless. The dreamy, oh-so-dreamy flowers, the gorgeous cake, the perfect details…every element was absolutely lovely. And, lucky for us, we have more pictures coming!

Real Wedding, III

We have so many more pictures from Kiki’s wedding for you!

kiki

all of these beautiful images were shot by Ingrid at Myrtle and Marjoram

From the bride, Kiki…

The theme was “Happy Koogether”. We’re playing the words with my husband’s last name “Koo” with “Happy Together”. My husband and I designed everything for our wedding. We printed most of the things at home and cut them ourselves. So there was a lot to do! We printed about 70 church programs, 50 menus, more than 90 custom printed favor bags (m n’ m chocolate), each of them with different names on it.

More to come!

Here are more images from Kiki’s OH-SO-GORGEOUS wedding…

real wedding - kiki

I love the juxtaposition of textures that Kiki chose…the wooden chairs paired with her soft, elegant color palette, the architectural flower arrangements paired with the oh-so-soft peonies in Kiki’s bouquet. Kind of a masculine base with a very feminine overlay. Love that.

So much more to come!

Real Wedding

When Kiki, one of our readers, sent me pictures from her recent wedding…well, I swooned. It’s just SO pretty. Every detail, from the soft color palette to the romantic peonies and gorgeous fashions, is so me. I could go on and on, but instead, I’ll just show you the pictures!

real wedding - kiki

I discovered, shortly after opening Kiki’s email, that her photographs were captured by one of my favorite Little Black Book members, Myrtle and Marjoram. Ingrid’s work is gorgeous and this wedding only speaks to her incredible talent.

We have SO much more to come, so stay tuned!

Abby Loves…Christian Oth

And I sincerely mean that. I love Christian Oth. In my opinion, his work is flawless…it’s emotional, it’s beautiful, it has a true sense of depth. I met Christian about a year ago when I was filming a segment for Get Married TV in his studio. Aside from being an incredibly talented photographer, one of the best in the world, he is also a really nice guy. If you haven’t already, grab a cup of coffee and spend some time on Christian’s site…I PROMISE you will be inspired to no end.

Real Wedding: Angelina and Christopher II

This is the kind of wedding that every little girl dreams about…it’s simply so pretty, you can’t help but love it!

katie moos

The oh-so-talented vendors that put this wedding together were…Katie Moos(the incredible photographer that sent the images to me, Rebecca at Duet Weddings, Pure Joy Catering, Hair and Make-Up by The Studio Agency and Cake by Montecito Confections

I love the sweet sophistication of this affair. From the bride’s gorgeous accessories, to the feminine flowers and the pretty shawls, every detail was thoughtfully executed. Thank you so much to Angelina, Christopher and Katie Moos for sharing!

Oh and just a little tip…I have a chandelier that is SO similar to the one at the top of the page. I got it at a Kirkland Home for about $30, then spray painted it white. Such a pretty and inexpensive way to add a bit of charm to your wedding.
