Cosmopolitan Events ~ St. Louis Style!

We gave you a quick look a little while ago at Mackenzie and Sam’s St. Louis wedding, expertly choreographed by the dynamic team at Cosmopolitan Events. And as they say, now, it’s time for the rest of the story!

Here’s where we left off …
From Mackenzie ~ I wanted a very classic but glamorous wedding. So for a color palette, I stuck to black and white with a pop of fuchsia for my accent color. I was dead set on finding the perfect one-shoulder dress, so when I tried on this Romona Keveza, I knew it was the one. A high waisted belt, ruffle and mermaid shape…what more could I want to look super glam? I added a short, 4 tiered Toni Federici Swarovski encrusted veil to make it even more unique and to add to the dramatic look! The front layer was used as a blusher when I walked down the aisle to meet my groom …

One of the most important parts of our wedding day were the people who were there to share it with us. Each one of my bridesmaids stood by my side for a reason and I wanted them to know how special they are to me. So, I personally chose the bouquet they were going to carry based on the meaning of the flower itself. Right before we left for the ceremony, I gave my girls a handwritten letter describing what flower I chose for them – including its meaning. To top it off, my bouquet consisted of each of their flowers – representing how I became who I am. I also added a family tradition – stephanotis, which my mother and sister in law (my Matron of honor) carried in their bouquets. The groomsmen had coordinating single blooms on their vest to match the bridesmaid they walked down the aisle. My bouquet was tied with Sam’s grandmother’s hanky, that she got from her groom over 50 years prior. I was lucky enough to be one of the several brides who carried that in his family.

SO much more in the gallery!

THEN for the celebration … and what a celebration it was!!

For the venue – I wanted something that not many people had used, so we took a risk with a newly renovated building ~ The Paladium ~ in St. Louis. It was actually the old laundry facilities for St. Louis City Hospital with a loft feel. And it worked PERFECTLY. Although they provided a great “skin” for the reception – I wanted to add special touches to fit my vision. White leather chairs and cubed-light up cocktail tables surrounded the white dance floor. And funky patterns swirled across the floor – while the room changed colors throughout the night. An 8’ light up bar was placed at the top of the room as a center focus and behind it sat an 8’x8’ black grid that showcased our bouquets and was filled with candles. On the walls – we had a custom monogram made with a chandelier and our names. The monogram was also used on our menu cards, wedding programs, and napkins. For flowers I wanted everything to be white. I love large clusters of a single flower to make for a dramatic and classy look. I turned to the fabulous Tony Montano of Montano Grant in NYC to help create my perfect vision. As a gift to our guests, ladies from Cosmopolitan Events handed guests one of the 8 large flower bouquets that sat on each table as they departed the venue. A small ribbon with a “thank you” note was tied around the flowers.

And finally, what better way to end a glamorous night than with a sparkler send off?

As we exited the stairs of the Palladium, guests lit up our walkway with sparklers – a perfect ending, to a perfect night!

From Josie at Cosmopolitan Events ~ Mackenzie’s wedding was exciting to plan, she challenged ideas and created new ones. She knew exactly what she wanted from the beginning and making her wedding a reality was so highly satisfying. From words to images to reality, I loved seeing the vision come together!

Cosmopolitan Events has lots more of the story and more of the amazing images from Stephen Seebeck Photography on their blog feature {here}. Our THANKS to Mackenzie & Sam and Cosmopolitan Events for sharing the excitement!

I had never even been to Puerto Vallarta before going there for our wedding. I completely trusted in our wedding coordinators, Kristin and Michelle of Dazzling Details (they are awesome!) to plan our wedding to perfection. We got ready at Dreams Puerto Vallarta, the resort where the bride and groom and guests stayed. And then headed to Casa Garza Blanca, a 7,200 square foot, private villa rented for the night of the wedding. I remember driving over there and seeing the villa for the first time. I had seen it before in pictures, but never in person.

Kristin and Michelle did such an amazing job planning so many intricate and personal details. The toss table was a great element. It sat at the foot of the aisle topped with flower petals and birdseed. The girls also used Mexican pottery bowls as the containers to hold the “toss materials” and this pottery doubled as a favor for the guests to take home. Our aisle runner said, “Abby and Jamey, I do, I do, I do” and it was a great marker as the entrance to the aisle. After we recited our personally written vows, the fun began with our cocktails by the pool. Our signature drink was served at the “mojito bar”. There were five kinds of mojitos for guests to choose from: guava, strawberry basil, hibiscus and blue Curacao. Custom drink umbrellas were made to top it off. As we enjoyed our tequila shots served in a hollowed out cucumber and mojitos, a surprise entered from the front door of the villa. A 10-piece mariachi band walked through the foyer and into the pool area. They played the traditional Mexican tunes and kept the guests entertained while also getting them into the festive mood for the night.

After cocktail hour, we went down the spiral staircase to the beach where a tented area of two long tables was set. Before entering the dining area, guests checked their shoes in the “shoe check” made up of the wooden crates that were decorated with succulents. Guests were seated at the long tables and each place setting was marked by their place card placed in an individual succulent bowl. After dinner and cake, guests gathered their shoes and washed their feet in the “foot baths” which was made with benches draped with muslin cloth and pitchers filled with lavender water.

We danced the night away and then the lights abruptly turned off. While the guests thought it was the cue to leave, the front door opened and a man clad in all black entered blowing a 5-foot horn. It was definitely a dramatic entrance! The guests were led to the grassy courtyard by the fire dances and bongo drums. They played the drums with intensity and as the speed of the drums increased, so did the number of flames that they danced with. It was a great way to end the night.

As a wedding photographer, it was not hard at all to choose a photographer. The obvious choice was Kate Headley, my friend and mentor. Having her photograph our wedding day was such a perfect choice and it was easy to be on the other side of the lens.

A few decor notes from Kristin of the Dazzling Details

This wedding design really focused around three words: simplicity, rustic, natural beauty. (Ok, that was 4.) The flowers (primarily white Casablanca lilies, white lisianthus and white Argentina mums) were chosen carefully as they created a perfect blend of aroma (casablancas), softness (lisianthus) and a touch of a more rustic flower (Argentina mums). The highlight décor throughout both the ceremony and reception contrasted beautifully – the modern white furniture and clean white flowers against the backdrop of garden and old, rustic boxes and wood.

Tables were set with pure white linens and white chiffon cover linens to add softness. A runner of white textured gauze, very lightly hand-stamped with a leaf pattern (same pattern as on the ceremony programs), added texture to the center of the tablescape. Tables were decorated with two sizes of white vases including a blend of white lisianthus and Argentina mums. Linen moss green napkins were placed atop each plate. Modern white tea bowls with a succulent was placed on top of the napkin. The chairs were draped with the same soft white gauze material as the table runner, and at the couple’s chairs hung hand-painted Bride and Groom signs.

The cocktail area was composed of white lounge furniture pieces – sofas and individual chairs and ottomans – with hand-made throw pillows in jute (same as embroidered aisle runner), moss green fabric (same as napkin fabric) and guaze (same as chair drapings and table runner). Market box tables were covered with small guaze linens and simple white votive candles. Round cocktail tables were dressed with white base linens and guaze overlays and set with white vases and arrangements (same as the dinner tables).

Rectangular Mexican market crates – purchased from a local fruit market – were cleaned, sanded and touched-up (a lot!) and served as floral vessels along the ceremony aisle, lounge tables in the cocktail area, the guest wish board and the shoe check area. In addition, pieces of the crates were salvaged and used as the base of the many hand-painted signs throughout the wedding (the “Toss Table,” the Mojito Bar, the Bride and Groom signs, the foot bath area, etc.)

New Mexico Wedding by Jesse Leake

Just when we think we have seen about all there is to see when it comes to gorgeous weddings, a beauty like this lands in our inbox and well, we’re back to square one again. Oohing and awing over yet another totally unique, completely beautiful in ever single way wedding. Jesse Leake photographed this wonder so you know it is going to be a total gem plus the Bride and Groom killed it with unique touches that incorporated Native American and Irish traditions all set against an utterly breathtaking Santa Fe, New Mexico backdrop. Can we say FAB -U-LOUS? See more of this beautiful day and every last perfect detail in the gallery.

From the lovely, lovely Bride…

It was important for Kyle and I to reflect two things: love and family. We wanted an intimate wedding in a romantic, organic place – Santa Fe stole our hearts. Our wedding day was chaotic, yet calm… filled with laughter and genuine emotion. We are the luckiest.

The decor was inspired by our love for succulents, bohemian vintage design and our American Indian/Irish heritage. Kyle and I hand selected everything from the vintage amber jars to the herringbone kitchen towels. Etsy, vintage shopping and DIY projects saved us. We meticulously designed the invitations, ceremony cards and menu cards (with the help of Suann Song of Simple Song Designs). We successfully incorporated our personalities through each piece …”the good stuff” – ceremony programs, “the yummy stuff” – menu cards, “the sweet stuff” – cake table.

Kyle and I met on St. Patty’s Day and coincidentally, our families are both Irish. We chose to reflect this by tying miniature gold four leaf clover charms to the invitations and menu cards. Photos of our grandparents were clipped to the menu cards with a “love” clothespin and American Indian feathers were used for added detail. Buckeye seeds (a good luck charm in American Indian folklore) were hand picked by my grandmother and strewn together in groups of 15, to represent the day Kyle and I met. They were placed on the ceremony programs and kept by guests. The bouquet and reception flowers were inspired by my favorite store, Anthropologie. peaches, creams, purples, yellows, pinks … a true bohemian combination.

The ceremony was intimate and meaningful. Kyle and I stood on an American Indian rug and guests were seated on rustic wooden benches. An acoustic guitar strummed our favorite songs and “five promises” were read to replace traditional vows. A unique feature – our first dance immediately followed the vows. For the reception, guests were seated at a long table covered in a natural linen tablecloth and burlap runner. Vintage amber jars, driftwood, turquoise votives, succulents and chunky flowers decorated the table. The food was home style with a New Mexican twist – steak/halibut, mashed potatoes, green beans, calabacitas, green chile cornbread and pecan pie.

Santa Cruz Beach Wedding From Alison Ulshoffer Events

Today’s first wedding on the Little Black Book Blog, sent to us by the fabulous Alison Ulshoffer Events and Design, took place on the sunny beaches of Santa Cruz! We have tons more gorgeous images courtesy of Penny Sylvia in the gallery … so if you don’t get enough of this DIY inspired wedding in this feature, do check out the gallery!

From this beautiful Style Me Pretty bride ~
I was a very devout Style me Pretty reader from the start of our engagement, and have to admit that I spent hours poring over the site, drawing inspiration from the many “diy” brides before me. I’m extremely detail-oriented, and I wanted things to feel handmade and personal. I have always liked vintage looking maps, stationery, and furniture, and ANYTHING with bird detailing. I made an inspiration board with the working theme of “lovebirds,” which included a lot of navy and robin’s egg blue, with accents of bright red. I first created homemade save-the-date cards, a project which quickly spiraled into handwritten invitations, placecards, hand-crafted boutonierres, centerpieces, and countless other projects. I wanted to “brand” our wedding with our personal style – from start to finish!

For months leading up to the wedding, I had scoured the greater Sacramento area, collecting drawers from old dressers, which we used as a “Shoe Check,” where guests could swap out their shoes for a pair of flip flops, which then doubled as one of our favors. The antique drawers went together with the vintage chairs and chaise lounges reserved to seat family during the ceremony.

See the whole gallery here!

When we first began discussing where to have the wedding, we considered everything from Napa to a destination wedding. Despite all of the research we did, we weren’t stumbling upon anything that felt “right.” Prior to the engagement, I had always pictured our wedding in Santa Cruz – it is where we met and fell in love, and we have so many wonderful memories there. We decided that a beach wedding in Santa Cruz was not only a perfect reflection of us, but also a fun, easy destination for our guests, which was a top priority for us! We did some initial research and found that one of the classic Santa Cruz resorts had recently been renovated by Joie d’Vivre hotels, an amazing boutique-y hotel chain. We had a couple of dates in mind, and fortunately, The Dream Inn, located right on Cowell Beach, was available to host our reception on June 5th, 2010. We booked it sight unseen – we were just that confident with their style and reputation! It also meant that once guests arrived for the ceremony on Cowell Beach, they could simply walk up to the hotel once it was time to start the reception. It was almost too easy!

Jan and I agreed on a few things right from the beginning – we wanted the event to reflect us, and we didn’t want to do things in the formulaic “wedding” way – we left out details that weren’t as important to us given our budget, and used the money elsewhere to truly make it “our wedding,” rather than “a wedding.”Before the ceremony, we served Jan’s favorite cocktails on the beach and had horseshose set up, so guests could relax and mingle. We kept our ceremony short and sweet, but infused a lot of ourselves into it through small details. The bridal party walked out to “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles, followed by me to “Into the Mystic ” by Van Morrision. Jan’s brother-in-law officiated, which made it feel more personal. We included an Irish Wedding Blessing and a love sonnet by Pablo Neruda (one I have always loved!) , which my brother and Jan’s sister read aloud. We wrote and shared our own vows, and as a way to lighten the mood before we shared them, we played Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who had to go first (He won!). This got everyone laughing and made the whole ceremony feel less stuffy and serious, and more like “us.” After what we’re told was a veeeerrrry long kisss, we all walked back down the aisle to “Hotel Yorba” by The White Stripes, and enjoyed local Santa Cruz microbrews from The Seabright Brewery all night.

How totally creative!! Our thanks to Alison at Alison Ulshoffer Events and Penny Sylvia Photography for sharing!

Congratulations to Brooke and Jan on a LOVELY day!

Here’s a bit more of Brooke & Jan’s love story …

It was love at first sight for Jan & me when our paths first crossed at the Baytree Bookstore at UCSC prior to the start of classes in the Fall of 2000. I remember passing by him as I pored over the stacks of books looking for the required texts. Our eyes met, but we were both too shy to say hello. Waiting in line to checkout with my roommates, I noticed that Jan got in line right behind us. To my surprise, Jan had many of the same books in his basket. Thrilled that we were going to be sharing a common course, I wondered if I would get up the nerve to say hello when our paths crossed again.

We have our friend, Paul, to thank for what happened next. Paul & I had become friends and planned to make a trip off campus to explore Santa Cruz with some other freshman. Paul suggested that we include his friend Jan from the basketball team who had been housed in the upper classman apartments, and was feeling left out of the freshman festivities. Paul waited in the car while I went to Jan’s door and rang the doorbell. When he opened the door, we were both taken aback. Jan spoke first, “You’re the girl from the bookstore!” We’ve been largely inseparable ever since!

the proposal …Unbeknownst to me, Jan called my father to ask for his permission several weeks before he intended to propose. a gesture that was as important to me as it was to my father. The two snuck around behind my back – with my dad slipping my grandmother’s ring to Jan over a quick weekend getaway right under my nose! On October 10th – a day of no particular significance before, Jan suggested that we share a fancy dinner at home, using the new Ben Sherman suit he purchased for a friend’s wedding as an excuse to get me dressed up without blowing the surprise. I agreed that this sounded like fun, and was looking forward to Date Night on what seemed like just a regular Tuesday evening. I was late in coming home from work (of course), and decided to skip the gym and head straight home for dinner … much to Jan’s chagrin. He rushed to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients for his one and only culinary masterpiece – Baked Ziti. I hopped in the shower, threw on a dress without make-up, and threw my wet hair into a messy ponytail. I came out of the bedroom to find that Jan had set up a romantic table in the middle of the living room, complete with candles and a bottle of wine we had been saving for a special occassion. As I sat down, Jan stood up and said, “Well, since it’s a special bottle of wine, we should probably make it a special ocassion.” He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the ring – my grandmother’s Miner’s cut diamond reset on a simple white gold band. I was in shock! Jan got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” I picked my jaw up off of the ground and blurted out a lot of surprised words and shed a few tears – but as he still likes to joke, I never actually said yes!

David Wittig Photography ~ Modern Chicago Wedding Reception

We started out earlier today with Terese and Ed’s show-stopping black and white images from David Wittig Photography. An incredible wedding story in and of itself … a series of b&w photographs that lends itself to lots and lots of of ooh’s and ahh’s! If your curiosity got the best of you, you’ve probably already checked out David and Nancy’s blog feature of the wedding. But now, we return with the wonders of color AND a lot more of the story from the beautiful Terese!

Terese started their story earlier today in the first part of this feature {here}. She continues …

One part of the wedding day that I was most looking forward to was spending the day getting ready with my bridesmaids and our moms. The night before we had an 8 person sleepover in our wedding suite and I woke up surrounded by my best girls. We spent the whole day laughing, listening to music, sipping champagne and getting our hair and makeup done. It will always be one of my happiest memories.

Ed and Terese were married at the magnificent Holy Name Cathedral in the heart of Chicago. If you’re just joining us, be sure and take a look back at the first part of their wedding {here} to see the stunning black and white images from the ceremony!

See their whole gallery from David Wittig Photography here.

More from Terese …
Our ceremony location was any easy decision. Once we decided that we’d get married in a church, I knew it would be Holy Name Cathedral.

The venue search was a bit more difficult.  We wanted the space to accommodate an outdoor area for the cocktail hour (and an acceptable alternative should weather be a factor), capacity for over 200 guests, late end time, something unique (no ballroom) AND someplace that we’ve never been to for a wedding!

When we visited the Chicago Illuminating Company, we were floored. It’s located in a very urban, off-the-beaten-path part of the city. The space is a former warehouse/power plant and has a very raw, loft-like feeling. It didn’t feel like a typical wedding venue and was just cool. And it satisfied all our criteria, so we were sold!

We didn’t really have a particular wedding style, we just tried to implement things that we loved and that would help create a great party. Our #1 goal in planning our wedding was to show everyone a good time. Besides that, we wanted it to be pretty and not too traditional. I’m always drawn to the mix of modern and vintage elements, so that guided a lot of our decisions: our color palette was modern (gray, yellow and white), but it was contrasted with more natural, gardeny flowers; the intricate rococo frames that held our seating charts were matted with a bold chevron pattern; soft poufs of baby’s breath were held in sleek white vessels. And it was a must that the room be flooded with candlelight!

spectacular florals by kehoe designs!

Our wedding favors made me so happy. Buckeyes are a traditional Ohio dessert that we’ve been eating as long as I can remember.  I knew we couldn’t have a wedding without them. One weekend, my mom and aunts rolled and dipped 500 Buckeyes {peanut butter & chocolate balls}.

Terese kept a running account of all her wedding planning ideas  on her blog The Road to June 19, 2010. She DIY’d all of her paper products ~ invitations, programs, seating chart, table numbers … and it’s all laid out for you in detail on her blog! She’s also talked about the amazing contributions of our two Little Black Book members ~ David Wittig Photography and LOLA Event Production. YAY! Her words are what we LOVE to hear!!

And though it would be so easy to go on and on and on … we must wrap it up with one more really fun thing … Terese’s SMP Style Circle Inspiration Board that she created at the beginning stages of planning. This really IS a From Inspiration to Real Wedding feature!!

Read all about Terese & Ed’s journey from inspiration to reality on her blog {here} ~ plus see tons more photos from the artistic geniuses of David Wittig Photography!

Our Congratulations to Terese and Ed on a spectacular celebration of love!

And thank you to David Wittig Photography, LOLA Event Productions and all the other fabulous vendors for having the creativity and passion for all that you do!

Ben and I were married on July 3, 2010 in Bloomington, Indiana. We live in (and LOVE) Chicago, but Bloomington was the only place I could imagine myself getting married, and luckily, after visiting the local church where both my grandparents and my parents were married, Ben agreed. While the decision of where to exchange our vows was an easy one, I pretty much made every other part of the wedding planning process as delightfully complicated as possible. I’ve been a magazine editor covering all things lifestyle-related (fashion, food, home design) for years, and soon after getting engaged, I realized a wedding actually incorporates all those things, so I literally made the wedding a second job. I even launched a daily email blast and website with a couple of friends called Bride-Buzz, to share all my wedding finds with other brides.

Luckily, my real job had introduced me to a ton of creative people in Chicago, a few of whom helped me turn my vision of modern-whimsy into a reality (and I say “my vision” because as wonderfully indulgent as Ben was when it came to listening to me prattle on about invitations, flowers, decor, etc, he pretty much only cared about the guest list, the music and the bar…very typical groom). My friend, Jessica Murnane of Suitor, custom-made our letterpress invitations; Elise Bergman, another friend, made the bridesmaid dresses in a range of pinks, corals and tangerines and made our Liberty of London fabric groomsmen ties and pocket squares, along with garlands for the reception. Milliner Debra Shirley, who I met while buying my Monique Lhuillier dress at Chicago’s Ultimate Bride, created my reception hairpiece and veil. And Anne Benjamin of Mok Duk custom designed our programs, which were quite adorable, if I do say so myself.

Paper was a huge source of inspiration for the wedding (the summer 2009 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings was my jumping-off point), and I went overboard on the theme, buying hundreds and hundreds of paper lanterns, fans and garlands in white, pink, yellow, orange and red. Our reception was in Indiana Memorial Union’s Alumni Hall (an old, cathedral-ceilinged dance hall where my mom actually had her senior prom), and a wonderful guy named Mike Schwandt hung them all and also created some beautiful lighting. Mike worked hand-in-hand with my day-of wedding coordinator/florist, Cathy Teeters, and the Union’s catering director and go-to gal, Bari Kuhlman. Those three were like on-the-ground wedding ninjas. They seriously pulled off what I thought might be impossible. They—along with Ben and my mom, who was tireless when it came to all things wedding—kept me sane… at least as sane as a bride who’s purchased 1,000 paper accessories can be!

While planning the wedding was really a passion and a joy, when it came to the actual day, all those details faded away and we were able to focus on the important things: our families (I got to dance with my 92-year-old grandpa; such a blessing), our friends and each other. As much as I focused on every detail of the reception, the ceremony was actually my favorite part of the day. Our officiant, Rev. Jenifer Steulpe Gibbs of the First United Methodist Church, did an wonderful job, and Jeff and Julia Woods, our super-talented photographers—who I actually first found on SMP!—captured everything so beautifully. It was a day that we will both always be grateful for. Being surrounded by so much love and support was really overwhelming and amazing.

(In fact, we were so full of love that about a month after the wedding, we found out we’re expecting a honeymoon baby!)

And lucky for all of us, the fun’s not over. We also have the completely gorgeous film that Andy over at Portal Films (who we love) designed, to top it all off…

David Wittig Photography: An Emotion-Packed Chicago Wedding

WE know YOU know that we love to splash big beautiful color images across the pages of Style Me Pretty. But we also know that sometimes ~ black and white rules! And from the moment we saw these images from David Wittig Photography ~ well, you’ll see …

Are you in love with David Wittig Photography ??

I’m serious … it just gets better and better …

Awesome … in every way, shape and form of the word!

. . .

We often ask our brides if they are glad that they had a “first look” session.
Here’s what Terese had to say …

Because we planned from the beginning to have a late evening wedding, there was really no other option than to see each other and take photos before the ceremony. Our photographers set it up so that I was standing at the end of a long, tree-lined path and Ed walked up from behind. I was nervous and giddy until the moment I felt him kiss me on the shoulder and put his hand on my arm. Looking back, I can’t imagine not having this time alone with Ed to relax and smooch a little before the real craziness of the day began.

Afterward, we spent some time taking photos along Lake Michigan. Our hotel was also along the lakeshore and at one point we looked up at the top of the hotel and saw our moms and the bridesmaids looking down at us and waving. I couldn’t have planned the moment more perfectly if I had tried!

Our ceremony location was any easy decision. Once we decided that we’d get married in a church, I knew it would be Holy Name Cathedral. Not only is it a stunning cathedral in the heart of the city, but it’s also in the neighborhood where Ed and I live, so it’s the church we attend together.

After the ceremony, we were standing in the back of the church as our guests filed out. I hadn’t seen my grandpa yet and suddenly he appeared and wrapped me in the biggest hug. Through tears, he couldn’t stop telling me how happy he was for Ed and me. Dave and Nancy discreetly captured this moment and I am so grateful to have these photos.

We’ll have the “rest of the story” and more spectacular images from David Wittig and Nancy Beale in just a bit…

If you’re anxious to see more ~ David & Nancy have posted the entire day in all it’s glory in a slideshow on their blog {here}.

It will totally blow you away!

Virginia Wedding by Katy Carrier Events

I am a girl who LOVES color and though I can appreciate a pale palette, it is the lovely vibrant combinations that really do it for me. Well Katy Carrier Events seems to know the way to my heart because they have left no stone unturned when weaving together this fabulous display of color. Captured by Eric Kelley Photography, this Charlottesville, Virginia wedding is sure to perk up your spirits. And if that doesn’t work then the too cute for words ring bearer should do the trick. I seriously can’t get enough. See more of this bright, happy day in the gallery.

From Katie Carrier Events…

Becca and Ben are the sweetest, funniest and most gorgeous couple, and working with them to plan their Charlottesville, Virginia wedding was an absolute blast. They were married on July 23, 2010 at Farmington Country Club, a beautiful and historic club with grand architectural details set on lush, scenic property. Photographer Eric Kelley did an amazing job of documenting the day! Becca and her mother Dottie are known for their love of the color red, so it was a given that it had to be incorporated into the wedding. Becca chose a darling palette of raspberry red with coral, pink and pool blue accents, and let her bridesmaids choose their favorite style of dress by Swoon in raspberry red. The groomsmen wore great Vineyard Vines ties in shades of pink with their light gray suits, and the two ring bearers (possibly the cutest little boys you’ve ever seen!) wore matching Vineyard Vines bow ties with their tiny seersucker suits, and each carried a Paloma’s Nest Ring Bearer Bowl.

Becca wore a gorgeous lace and dupioni silk dress by Martina Liana (with pockets!), and her mother made her veil using lace from Becca’s grandmother’s wedding dress. It was such a sweet and meaningful touch. Tara Bliven of Ephemera Press designed a gorgeous letterpress invitation suite with a custom calligraphy font that incorporated a double “B” monogram inside of a bracket shape. We then carried the monogram and bracket shape throughout the entire wedding, making hand-embossed tags that we put on almost everything, like the napkins, favor boxes and parasols. Even the fan-shaped programs for the outdoor ceremony were cut out in the bracket shape.

The first thing Becca and Ben told me when we started planning was how important it was to them that their wedding was casual and comfortable, and that their 200+ guests have a ton of fun, with great music and great food. Becca and Ben chose an amazing band called Big Ray and the Kool Kats, and they kept the dance floor packed the entire night! Surprise musical performances by family and friends also made the evening so personal and unique. After an amazing dinner and delicious cake and desserts, the couple treated their guests to a late night snack of sliders and mini cones of French fries. One of my favorite moments of the evening was when Becca’s bridesmaids helped her pull off a surprise mid-reception in the middle of the dance floor: the ballgown skirt of Becca’s dress came off to reveal a darling lace minidress and red shoes underneath! Everyone, including the groom, was completely surprised! After a sparkler exit, Becca and Ben drove off in an awesome ‘57 Chevy – red, of course!

Mid-Atlantic Wedding with a Touch of Old Hollywood

If you love classic elegance this next wedding is going to knock your socks off!  The stunning photographs from Gabe Aceves totally transported me to the set of an old Hollywood movie.  It’s like the dramatic closing scene where the boy and girl finally reunite and take off together into the sunset.  The bride just exudes timeless beauty and who doesn’t love a groom in a jumpsuit!  How much fun must it have been to be a guest flying around in a vintage WWII plane with the groom (also the pilot!) the morning of the wedding?  And those bridesmaids’ dresses might be the prettiest I have ever seen!  There is even more from the photographer’s flight and these romantic nuptials  in the gallery!

Check out the full gallery for even more dreamy inspiration!

From photographer, Gabe Aceves –

“Kathleen and Andrew’s day started off with a surprise. Andrew is a licensed pilot and flies vintage WWII planes. The morning was spent flying guests around at a local airstrip, me included.

They had a beautiful church wedding before heading to the garden and patio area of the Greenville Country Club for cocktails and a reception.

The girls wore soft green/blue flowing dresses that completely complement Kathleen and Andrew’s laid back style. It also complemented the all white tent/patio color schemes with small pops of green in the flowers.

The whole day felt classical and timeless, the locations were historic and summed up the style of an elegant Mid-Atlantic wedding.”

Lelia Scarfiotti ~ Delightful Destination Wedding In Tuscany

As one of Style Me Pretty’s Premiere Destination Wedding Photographers, Lelia Scarfiotti has joined the ranks of some seriously incredible photographers. So it should have come as no surprise to me, when I was preparing this post, that EACH and EVERY single image ~ standing alone ~ is a miniature work of art. When combined together, they compose a lovely artistic journal of a delightful destination wedding in Tuscany …

from Lelia Scarfiottia medieval tower, Tuscany, pink and green all over the place and two people in love…such a perfect day!

from Helen, the beautiful bride … We chose to get married in Tuscany as it is one of the most beautiful places in the world, has amazing food and virtually guaranteed sunshine. We fell in love with Siena on a trip in 2009 and decided that if we ever got married, this is where we would like the wedding. So when we got engaged in 2010, our first thought was let’s get married in Siena. We found Castello di Tornano after a long search on the internet and a weekend trip to Italy to check out venues. It was perfect for us, with stunning buildings, sense of history and beautiful views. The staff at the Castello were all amazing and they helped us pull off a wedding which was even better than we imagined. Our guests were amazed by the whole day and especially loved the food and wine which kept on flowing! It was a dream wedding and we were so pleased to have had it in beautiful Tuscany.

Congratulations on a truly wonderful celebration!

Utah Wedding by j. bird photography

This next little number has completely and totally captured my heart. Although they had me the moment I laid eyes on those perfect ice cream cones…a wedding detail that EVERYONE should have in my humble opinion…it was the laid back, totally effortless style that the bride and groom infused into every corner that really got the giddy going. Paired with the photography style of Jenny Moloney, this wedding turned out to be a little slice of heaven…right here on SMP. Click here to see even more!

Kelli & Sean are not only fantastic together, but they are individually wonderful people. I am so glad I met them! Kelli and Sean got married on Friday, August 20th at Rose Sachs Gardens in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Vicki and her daughter Hailey, of Ella Bella Floral out did themselves. Kelli, a creative girl herself, wanted to create a setting with a woodsy and feminine feel — sofas in the nooks of the trees, tissue paper flowers, hanging lanterns, wooden tables draped in lace and topped with jars of flowers. Did i mention the gorgeous cake table? The pair opted for strawberry, toasted coconut, chocolate ganache and lemon zest cakes. Sean invited his talented friends of the Tony Lake Trio to play at the event. And the result of all these collaborations? A delicious, beautiful and joyful day!

California Vineyard Wedding by Meg Perotti

Who says you have to sacrifice style for tradition and vice versa?  This next wedding by Meg Perotti is proof that you can blend culture, tradition and style into one picture perfect package.  Angela and Geoff wanted to create a celebration that reflected their personalities while incorporating elements from her Chinese heritage and honoring their parents.  Nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains, their vintage-inspired, “East meets West”, vineyard fête created the ideal atmosphere for a magical night of love and laughter.  Big props to Angela, a jewelry designer, for creating all the lovely details including the paper goods and the jewelry for the bridal party.  There is oh-so much more vibrant and breathtaking inspiration in the gallery!

Check out the full gallery here!

From Angela, the bride –

“Geoff and I really wanted to make sure that our wedding was truly a celebration about us: Angela & Geoff. I didn’t want to get lost in all the details that come with planning a wedding but, there were definitely certain elements we wanted to include like my Chinese heritage for one, our love for fine wine and dining, the outdoors, and honoring our parents who got us here today.  Our vision was really simple, “East meets West” themed garden party, a bit of vintage glamour mixed with subtle hints of Asian and English influences, bright colored lanterns, lots little kids running around, and lots of love and laughter.

We wanted to include some Chinese wedding traditions without being too traditional.  Some of the things we incorporated  were, having a tea ceremony during our wedding ceremony to honor our parents and we also included the Chinese double happiness character in some of the details. It was on our wedding invitations, our “Tea for Two” themed wedding favors, which were muslin bags filled with 2 blossoming tea bulbs, and a box with Chinese red envelopes for guests to write us well wishes so that we can read them on our wedding anniversaries.

Most of the wedding is a blur now and thankfully we had the lovely and talented Meg Perotti as our photographer who captured the event and the emotions so vividly and beautifully for us.  As I look back, the part I remember the most was the ceremony and for me the most important part of the day.  We were lucky to have our brother-in-law James officiate the ceremony and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect person.  James, truly made the wedding what it was…a celebration about us, about our parents, about our families, about our friends, about our past, our present and now our future together.  In the end, I learned that you can plan the heck out of the wedding, it may still not go perfectly as planned, but no one really notices. What really matters is the fact that Geoff and I truly feel lucky and loved.”

Thank you, Angela and Geoff, for sharing your gorgeous and heartfelt day with us!

Signature Cocktails! Prohibition Inspired Wedding From Eclatante At TRUST

We always LOVE the weddings that Kendall Brown and Donna O’Brien send our way. Eclatante and Beautiful Blooms often pair up and create THE most amazing weddings! Case in point … Kelly and Josh’s wedding at Philadelphia’s historic TRUST!

images courtesy of atlas wedding photography

From Kendall ….. at Eclatante Event Design

Kelly & Josh were two of the most wonderful people we have ever met. Very urban, very chic and very unusual, they had definite ideas about certain things they wanted at their wedding.

First, Josh is a true connoisseur of cocktails – an expert, of sorts, on the prohibition era. Which we loved, because it created an extremely interesting backdrop for the design and details for their wedding. We brought in a stunning solid wood bar that was created for a speakeasy. Josh carefully chose the drinks that would be available at the bars – there were only four of them. We arranged to have the specially chosen bartenders attend a dress rehearsal where they learned, not only how to make these very special drinks, but how to move, how to speak to the guests and how to dress. We provided them with the authentic details that dressed them up that day. There were “House Rules” as there were in the Chicago Speakeasies and recipe cards for the guests for each of the four drinks. The guests were totally charmed by all the details. It was truly amazing.

The tables, too, were designed to reflect this very specific era. Rather than have typical centerpieces, we created, instead, a look that incorporated lamps and ashtrays and other elements that you might find on the table at a Speakeasy. Inside the ashtrays and other vessels, Beautiful Blooms placed absolutely amazing freeze-dried and hand-painted green roses. We also used pheasant feathers because it just seemed to work! And, if you look closely, you’ll notice that some of the tables are parsons tables covered with faux ostrich leather.

One more little tidbit – Kelly & Josh met on Craig’s List. We thought it would be charming to print their initial emails to each other on cocktail napkins.

So, so, so charming!

Canadian Winery Wedding by Jessica Zais

If there is one thing that I absolutely adore…go totally gaga for…just can’t seem to get enough of it is a couple that hand-crafts their wedding to create something so uniquely them. For example, say you’re a bride to be that just so happens to own twelve pairs of moccasins. Would it make sense to wear anything else under your pretty dress on the big day? This adorable bride rocked some fab moccasins and her groom donned an awesome pair of vintage boots. THAT is precisely why I am in love with this shabby-chic affair photographed by Jessica Zais. Canada is definitely bringing its A-Game today. Not only is the couple too cute for words with their aforementioned footwear, but the Winery backdrop is beyond breathtaking and all of the vintage bobbles and trinkets are styled to absolute perfection by Stage Right Etc. I think we may have hit a visual jackpot with this beauty. See more of this lovely day in the gallery.

From Jessica Zais…

Nicole and Nathan live in Vancouver and planned their wedding in one of the Okanagan Valley’s beautiful vineyards, in Kelowna, BC. They were such an adorable couple. Nathan had Nicole giggling and smiling constantly with funny expressions and secret whispers. They were glued at the hip! I loved their style from Nathan’s Buddy Holly glasses down to his boots with the untied laces and the beautiful feathers in Nicole hair. Nicole made an amazing inspiration scrapbook that she gave to their amazing wedding planners, Danielle and Ria, of Stage Right Etc and they really drew from that and made it amazing. Nicole started crying when she thanked them because she thought it was so gorgeous. Pretty cute.
