Melissa Waldrop wanted her wedding to be an unforgettable party and wanted to forget all the traditions.  There was no cake cutting, father-daughter dance or big send-off for this bride.  Instead, we held a very intimate ceremony at a historic home on Barton Creek, where guests all gathered around the couple in a circle.  Guests enjoyed fine cigars and scotch during the cocktail hour, where the topic of discussion was “what is up with those swans?”  Afterwards guests dined on the lawn under vintage chandeliers hanging from the oak trees.  DJ Chicken George got everyone shaking on the dance floor and once all had worked up their appetites again we served Chick-fil-A, the bride’s favorite!

Canadian Christmas Wedding by Amanda Wagner Photography

If an intimate, family only, evening ceremony lit by candlelight doesn’t get you into the holiday spirit perhaps the Christmas color palette of white, golds and greens will bring out your inner holly jolly. This sweet wedding shot by Amanda Wagner Photography just screams it’s the most wonderful time of the year, and for this couple it was certainly the best day of the year. Planned in just four short months, the couple got exactly what they wanted this Christmas – each other. It’s classic Christmas inspiration at its finest and there is even more in the gallery.

From the photographer, Amanda Wagner…An intimate family only  Christmas themed affair. The bride planned a candle lit evening ceremony, and decorated from a holiday palette of white, gold and green. Elegant hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed by guests around the enormous Christmas tree immediately following the heartfelt nuptials. The venue provided a country landscape and private estate feel with stunning attention to detail. No one can deny the warm holiday spirit while sipping fresh cinnamon infused apple cider. All that was missing was a pristine blanket of snow. Something I admired about Sharron and Joel was their speedy and decisive planning. They had their wedding come together in 4 short months. Start to finish. When asked how they were able to accomplish this, they responded, ” When you get to be our age, and life hands you a second chance at happiness and togetherness… there’s no need to wait. We knew what we wanted – each other.”

California Wedding by stella alesi/photography

There is so much to love about this wedding. It was a weekend long affair bursting with bright, gorgeous floral design by Fleurs de France , a couple with so much love you can feel it through the screen, and beautiful images from the lovely Stella of stella alesi photography (who also happens to be a sister of one of the brides!). It would take a weekend to soak up all the goregous images so be sure to set aside some time with the gallery.

Sebastopol, California is truly a magical place and Lynne and I feel lucky to have landed here five years ago.  We’re surrounded by natural beauty, incredible artisan food and amazing wine and we wanted our guests to have a taste of the life we’ve built together… so our celebration lasted for days and included a reception hosted by our friends at Domaine Carneros, a behind the scenes tour of Quivira Vineyards  – thanks to Nancy Bailey and an incredible rehearsal dinner prepared by Sondra Bernstein and team at Estate, in Sonoma.  Our wedding day ended with a beautiful evening at Bistro des Copains. Lynne and I held our wedding at our home near Sebastopol and the day could not have been more perfect. Our families traveled from East Coast and Deep South to support us and our commitment, so surrounded by those we love the most, we tied the knot as tightly as California will allow.

From the darling photographer, Stella…Okay, so this is a special one, Lynne is my sister, so please excuse my overwhelming enthusiasm and excitement. That’s me, the maid of honor with the ridiculous grin. This was a wedding weekend. Welcome dinner on Friday and the wedding ceremony and reception on Saturday. The Welcome dinner took place at The Estate restaurant. The brides hired a bus to take us all around, first to a vineyard for a wine tasting and then to The Estate for dinner. The florist, for both days, was Jessica Switala of Fleurs de France. As you can see she did an amazing job, especially I thought on the room we had dinner in this first night. The apples were the perfect touch, being that the orchards we passed as we drove around were full with trees hanging with fruit. I thought Lynne and Tammy looked great in black and with all the red in the room, it was intimate, elegant and sensual. The wedding ceremony took place in the garden of Lynne and Tammy’s home in Sebastopol. Lynne is a Landscaper and created the garden herself. Many of the details photos included here came from the garden and their property. Such a beautiful landscape with towering trees, and distant mountains, fruit trees and vegetables gardens verdant and plentiful. Again the florist did a beautiful job with the chuppah and bouquets and the girls looked beautiful in their wedding gowns. We referred to them as the Queen and the Princess. (I have to say it was super fun having two brides). After the ceremony and a little dancing we moved onto dinner at Les Bistro des Copains in Occidental. So yummy. I finally had the chance to make the wedding toast that I had been planning for over a year. Not much is better than attending your sisters wedding, I am so happy for them both and was even happier that they could share their love with all of us.

Vintage Arkansas Wedding by David Coleman Photography

I spy with my little eye a downright gorgeous vintage-inspired wedding by David Coleman Photography. The bride’s purple shoes might have put me over the edge into prettiness overload! Or it could have been the adorable little cake, the ornate frames or the “happily ever after” bike.  I just can’t choose which detail is my favorite!  There is oh-so much more vintage pretty in the full gallery!

For as long as I can remember, I have always envisioned a wedding that was personal, simple, loving, and fun.  What would encompass this feeling would be the only big wish I desired – to have our reception under a tent at my parent’s house.  With just a little weather hesitation from my mom, my wish was granted, and the full planning begun. I stalked the wedding blog world for a lot of my inspiration, especially SMP, which I still confess, I look at every day!

My dress was the easiest decision. A couple of years ago, my grandmother pulled me aside at a family gathering and told me it would mean a lot to her if I would consider wearing her wedding dress when I got married.  At that time I was single and didn’t think too much of it, except that I was honored that she would like me to wear her dress.  Well, to my surprise I met the man of my dreams shortly after that conversation, and this was the first thing my grandmother asked, “Would you like to wear my dress?”  To make our wedding even more special would be to set the tone of the evening with this beautiful heirloom dress.  With a little bit of coaxing to allow me to change it up a bit, I had my dress, and with the luck that my mother’s veil was an absolutely stunning match to it, I had my veil and the inspiration of our wedding had unfolded.

The ceremony, I knew was going to be very traditional, but with as many personal touches that I could think of.  We were married in the church that I grew up in, and the Pastor who confirmed me, married us as well, and is an important person in my life.  The music was not traditional wedding music, as I hand selected special songs that I felt were good reminders of what the day meant.  Instead of having a full ensemble of bridesmaids, I chose to have all the women who were important in my life carry down a candle, two-by-two to the song “This Little Light of Mine” and placed it on a table before the altar.  It was so reverent and appropriate; I still get tears in my eyes thinking of what each lady means to me.  Also, instead of having a ring bearer, I chose to have a bell ringer to signal the bridal entrance.  This moment, the moment I heard that bell, I know I will never forget, as I whispered “Thank you, and I love you” to my father, and I knew I was walking from the man who has loved me my whole life to another man who will love and protect me from this day forward.

Details that surrounded the day were all carefully chosen and mostly do-it-yourself creations, such as;  custom made burlap ruffled table runners, collected vintage bottles, jars, candleholders and the like, to hand tied jute bows adorning the white napkins, which were just the start of the fun.  I also found a vintage tandem bike that was used throughout our theme, starting with our save-the-dates and ending with our getaway vehicle for the wedding.  We repurposed furniture and decor that my mom and I had, and displayed our yummy cupcakes and Oreo dessert bags (my husband works for Kraft ).  A canoe was filled with ice and beverages, which was one of the hits of the party.  My father constructed a photo booth background which he attached vintage hooks to hold the many hats, boas, and props for our guests to use.  We lined our driveway with shepherd hooks that held the DIY mason jars filled with pebbles and candles.  My mother made the entrance sign to our reception spot which pointed the way to: “Field of Dreams, Parking, Dinner, Dancing… and fun.” She also hand painted the Wedding Tree along with creating the burlap ruffled seating chart- she is so talented I can’t even explain!

Planning was truly a collection of talent from my mother and me. We really did the planning all ourselves, and the day of the wedding, we asked one of my friend’s moms to help with the last minute details while we were at the ceremony. The day could not have been more perfect.  And the weather, for a September wedding in Arkansas was absolutely PERFECT!  No clouds, no rain, 75 degrees of pure bliss. A live band, good food, and great company really hit the wedding of my dreams out of the field!

Romantic San Diego Wedding by Studio Vérité Photography

If you start to feel light-headed it is only because you have just landed on this fluffy, romantic wedding from Studio Vérité Photography.  This San Diego bride put her heart and soul into creating her dream wedding full of sweet details and lots of sparkle!  If you need me I’ll be lounging on the ruffly, pink pillows with a glittery vodka “Kelbini” (their signature cocktail) in hand!  Check out the full gallery for more romantic inspiration!

I knew the second we began to plan the wedding that I wanted understated romantic elegance set off with a rustic backdrop and a touch of feminine glamour. I designed everything in the wedding myself (with help of my mother) from the custom invitations, vintage gold frames and elegant florals to the signature cocktails, bridal party attire and reception details. We selected the Santaluz Country Club in San Diego because the rustic decor, wrought iron and rolling hills reminded me of my home in Scottsdale, AZ. Just with a little “Old California” twist! My inspiration came from a vintage cocktail ring of my grandmothers that has a rare champagne diamond surrounded by tiny white diamonds. It was such a unique piece, it turns from a cocktail ring to a necklace pendant with the flip of a clasp, and I knew I just had to wear it on my wedding day.

Champagne was the primary inspiration with touches of gold, ivory and pale pink. The inspiration had already been selected when my sister and I went on a joint wedding dress shopping trip to a boutique in Scottsdale and we found our dresses within two hours of each other. It just so happened the gown I chose fit perfectly with our color scheme and venue. When I layed my eyes on “the gown”, it I was in instantaneous love. My usual taste in dress is simple and monochromatic. On my wedding day i knew I didn’t want simple or understated. And this dress surely is not!  I wore pale pinkish nude ballet flats with a hint of sparkle on the toes, a hair brooch from Etsy and my mother’s gorgeous diamond earrings.

I woke up to a forecast of thunderstorms on the wedding day but the entire day was clear skies and glowing sun. It was perfect. I treated the girls to manicures, pedicures, hair and makeup at the fabulous Spa Gregorie’s Day Spa and Salon in Del Mar, CA and it was a wonderful start to the day. I had purchased small bottles of Rosé Brut from the Korbel Winery for the “Out of Town” gift bags so the girls also started off the day with a little bubbly! My loving husband Ryan always jokes that I love anything that sparkles or shines so he knew he would see bits of that in our wedding. I incorporated dripping strands of crystal into our brown manzanita centerpieces that were strung with pale pink and ivory dendrobium orchid strands. I also handmade dining menus, escort cards and programs with champagne crystal details. These were some of my favorite DIY projects because I spent a significant amount on my custom invitations so designing the remaining paper elements myself was definitely a money saver. Card stock from a local office supply store supplemented by Opal shimmer backing gave it a upscale custom look.  We incorporated our nicknames (Kel Belle and Brown Town) in to the cocktail names which our family and friends got a kick out of. We served pink hued vodka “KelBelinis” garnished with gold sugar and Ryan’s favorite drink, a dirty martini nicknamed “The BrownTown-tini.”  I purchased ornate gold votives and all of the cocktail/reception linens myself. No renting for this bride! I scoured thrift shops and local home good stores for fun and unique frames in gold hues and filled them with various family wedding portraits.  We wanted a fun lounge area in the reception for all of our friends from college to enjoy by the bar. I found various girly ruffled pillows to throw on the lounge furniture which was rented at a discount!  The ceremony was out of a dream. We had a simple Catholic ceremony performed by a family friend who also officiated Ryan’s grandparents wedding and will officiate my sister-in-laws weddings as well.

The moment Ryan and I walked in to the tent we were surrounded by our closest friends and family hugging and singing along to our song, “It Just Comes Natural” by George Strait. We broke in to Usher’s “DJ got us Fallin’ in Love’ immediately after the first dance and the dance floor was never empty for the rest of the night thanks to our fantastic DJ.

Washington Wedding by Jessica Feely

Up next in our smorgasbord of weddings is a tale of a lovely couple and their equally lovely Washington wedding all captured by Jessica Feely. We are la, la, loving all of the berry hued accents. Think patterned skinny ties for the groomsmen and  bright festive cocktails for the attendees. You know what we say to that? Why oh why weren’t we invited? That’s OK, we can revel in the pretty over in the gallery and pretend we were sipping on those yummy cocktails with all the lucky duck guests.

Courtney and I could not have been more pleased with our Wedding day. I believe our personalities clearly were conveyed through the simple yet clean lines in everything from decorations to dress. The location at Amy’s Manor lends a feeling towards a private European-style villa and the surrounding barn, orchards and Methow Valley below were an incredible backdrop. Courtney’s dress, her bird cage veil, and hair had a stylish elegance that reminded of era’s past. Anthony joined in with his heather gray Ben Sherman suit with narrow tie and suspenders. Courtney and I want to give credit to our parents and all of their effort. Specifically, the bride’s mother Joanie Raaum, came through in so many ways for us. Her support was amazing.

. . .

When we first got engaged it was a no-brainer that we would be married on Long Island surrounded by our closest friends and family. Port Jefferson has always been a special place to us. Not only do we love it’s old world charm, it’s where we had many of our first dates. We knew the church on the big hill would be the perfect place to promise the deepest parts of our being to one another.

Chris and I both love all things old, vintage, and rustic, so we immediately knew we wanted to bring as much of that into our wedding as possible. As much as we would have loved to have our celebration outdoors we were worried about New York’s random weather so we opted for the Hamlet Willow Creek in Mt. Siani. It was breathtaking and had many of the elements we were looking for.

We knew that our bridal party would consist of family members who are very near and dear to our hearts. Our main concern for our bridesmaids and groomsmen was that they each felt comfortable. Their own style dress and shoe, and Nike Air Force Ones helped us accomplish that goal! Chris was the star of the night with his break dancing performances. The smiles and laughter from our friends and family were truly captivating and lit up the entire room. We received so many compliments from our guests who said they have never seen a bride and groom have so much fun on their wedding day. It was the best thing anyone has ever said to us.

Oxford, Maryland Wedding by Alisandra Photography

Since Christmas is only a few days away, we thought we would pull out some extra pretty, extra fabulous weddings to devour. Consider it an early gift from Style Me Pretty. And don’t forget to take a looky loo at the galleries where the gifts keep on giving with even more fabulous images from each and every wedding featured.

To get the festivities rollin, we are going to delve into this perfect little number shot by Alisandra Photography. It is such a great mix of preppy meets nautical meets chic and there is even an adorable scottie dog to boot. He seems right at home in this Maryland soiree as are our nautical loving sensibilities. Be sure to pop on over to the gallery for more from this oh so lovely wedding.

see the FULL wedding here!

We met in front of my freshman dorm at Georgetown. Both new to the varsity sailing team there, my family’s neighbor in the tiny town of Oxford, Maryland somehow knew both of us (Andrew’s from San Diego!) and immediately predicted that we would end up together. His forecast seemed dubious, but two years later, we were indeed together. Five years and lots of travels, sailboat racing, skype phone calls, cross-country driving, fun adventures, and a move later, Andrew proposed at the Lincoln Memorial after our usual post-work Thursday night boatracing with former teammates on the Potomac. Teary-eyed and smiling, we surprised our buddies who were eating at Booey’s in Georgetown afterwards and turned a regular summer Thursday night into an epic time celebrating together with some of our favorite people.

We knew we wanted our wedding to be just as fun, relaxed, and meaningful as our engagement. So we chose Oxford, Maryland, where I had spent lots of time on the water growing up. We chose our church because it had an intimate, semi-circular setup, an amazing gospel choir that would sing for us, and a very personable and welcoming pastor and congregation. Our reception venue was an easy pick, since the TAYC was where I learned to sail and was in a great spot on the water. Some other things we knew we wanted to include were my grandfather’s 1960’s convertible from Germany, vintage-y touches in the decor and photography, Eastern-shore flavors in the food, a “polaroid” photo booth complete with mustaches on a stick and other silly props, a blues-y motown band that would get everyone dancing, our friend’s grandpa’s historical boat for the after party, and each of our favorite colors, blue and green. The photographer was also an easy choice, since Ali and I were photo school classmates and have shot together, so I knew she would do a fantastic job.

Andrew and I ended up going DIY with a lot of the details for the wedding: the programs and menus, the calligraphy for the invitations (a talent of Andrew’s that I never knew about!), the green and white flower ball for the center of the ceiling, the ceiling decoration, the table numbers, a painted canvas (with our initials and a cool pattern in white and green) to cover an unwanted display case, the favors/escort cards (Old Bay Seasoning wrapped with twine, a hand-edged tag, and cool printed fabric), the photo booth and album, the place cards (oyster shells from the shore in front of my parents’ house, with names written in gold, a family tradition at dinner parties), the tissue paper pom poms for the reception room, etc. It all came together beautifully, with the help of our wonderful parents, bridal party, and vendors. It was SUCH a good day!

Winter Wedding Photo Shoot by Corbin Gurkin + Maine Season Events

Let me let you in on a little secret – I am starting to really love the winter. Winter weddings in particular, they just have a ethereal way about them. And may I just say, It could be winter all year long in my book if it looked anything like this absolutely stunning photo shoot in Maine by Corbin Gurkin Photography. With drop dead gorgeous floral design by Emily Carter Flowers and invitations from Ceci New York that sparked the design process with Maine Season Events and Corbin Gurkin, this shoot was going to be hit before it even came to fruition. All of it’s dreamy inspiration is perfect for this festive holiday week or those lucky brides planning a winter wedding, and of course there is even more in the gallery.

click here for the full gallery!

From Corbin Gurkin, photographer: Drawing inspiration from Ceci’s invitation suite, Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events and Corbin Gurkin of Corbin Gurkin Photography designed a winter table setting at Foxhill in Camden, Maine.  The design included birch, snow, and other winter themed elements.  We wanted a dreamy, ethereal look that would highlight Camden, Maine as a gorgeous wedding backdrop….snowy vistas overlooking the chilly Atlantic.  We kept the design classic using mercury glass accents and found objects to contain the jewel toned palette. The cake was designed by Gayle Forte/Let Them Eat Cake with a topper from Lauren Christensen of “Lo Boheme”.  Additional desserts were made by Anastasia Glassman of Swan’s Way.

From Emily Carter, floral designer: Our inspiration board combined a lush, simplistic vintage elegance with subtle touches of explicit detail.  I used this to direct my overall look and feel for the floral elements.  The beauty of full blooms of New Zealand peonies and the intricate detail of lady slipper orchids as well as the organic textural elements of various berzillia baubles and brunia berries brought forth a wonderful combination of a vintage style elegance with a touch of organic texture.  French and double tulips were icing on the cake with the combination as their natural tendency to flow and have such a beautiful curve and shape is one that I will always adore.  Silver dusty miller was a beautiful complement to all of these above flowers as its texture speaks for itself, but it also conveniently mimicked the silver mercury glass bowl that we used for the container in the shoot.  Finally, it is a shame that images can not be scratch and sniff, as the aroma of the peonies and the tuberrose was a nice breath of Spring in the midst of a frigid winter day.  For the bouquets, it was impossible to simply create one as I wanted to do a bouquet that would nicely complement the centerpiece elements; however once I found impeccable anemones with black centers, I was compelled to create yet another.  These flowers have the most amazing contrast of not only color, but also the dainty delicate petals contrasted with the heaviness of the dark center is so very inviting.  I will always love these flowers and that is the reasoning behind the second bouquet, as I simply could not go without showcasing their stellar and distinctive beauty.

California Ranch Wedding by Carlie Statsky Photography

Take a nice deep breath in, because this California ranch wedding is a wonderful breath of fresh air. The images from Carlie Statsky Photography are delightfully refreshing and bring to life the relaxing vibe the adorable couple obviously wanted to be an important part of their day. A rustic but elegant occasion on a ranch overlooking Carmel Valley, you could almost feel the warm breeze on your face if you closed your eyes, but who would want to do that? It would be a crime to miss all the beautiful images in the gallery.

click here for the full wedding gallery!

From the talented Carlie Statsky…Jenny and Jef are one of those truly radiant couples, and then they chose a venue as stunning as Holman Ranch in Carmel, so there was a whole lot of beauty for me to capture that day. Jenny and Jef are Carmel locals and they fell in love with this property the moment they saw it. Holman Ranch creates this amazing atmosphere that’s intimate yet expansive and rustic yet elegant, and that is exactly the feeling that Jenny and Jef wanted to create for their guests that day. You really do feel like you’re a world away up on that warm hill overlooking the Carmel Valley. The entire day felt so relaxed, as I arrived to find Jenny wandering the gardens to find fresh flowers for her hair while the guys were out for a morning surf. The ceremony felt equally casual and personalized as they had their dear friend as their officiant, a song performed by another friend, their rings passed from guest to guest so that each person could bless them in their own way, and vows that they each wrote themselves. After cocktail hour guests were served incredible farm fresh food by Paradise Catering and seated at family style tables. I love that dessert was a variety of local pies from Gizdich Ranch instead of a formal cake. The party then moved out to the barn area for dancing, hanging out by the fire pits, playing horse shoes and joining in on the fun of Jenny’s homemade photo booth. That night as I was zoomed down a wooded path on the back of a golf cart to leave Holman Ranch, I couldn’t help feeling elated and inspired by the enchantment of the whole day.

Bohemian Winter Wedding Inspiration by A Simple Photograph

My jaw hit the desk when I saw the cake in this winter wedding shoot from A Simple Photograph and  Hazlitt Vintage Rentals.  The rest of the inspiration this talented group put together is equally as fetching and would make a killer vintage-inspired wedding.  There’s nothing like scotch and a steamy kiss to warm up those winter nights!  I just want to hunker down and live inside this winter wonderland forever.  There are so many more romantic and ravishing images in the full gallery!

Click here to see more bohemian inspiration in the full gallery!

It all started with the idea of a bed in a barren field!  We wanted to create a scene that was dark and brooding and dripping with romance.  We wanted the images to look chilly but steaming with heat from our couple.  A romance that warms you up like a hot cup of tea on a cold day.  The elements would include birch logs, books, luggage, nests, twigs and feathers.  The colours were to all be muted focusing on grey, navy and off white.  The couple was to be madly in love and have a vintage, bohemian style.

Hazlitt Vintage Rentals set the stage for our scene.  Selena chose the location, a farm with a century old log cabin near Benmiller Ontario and designed our theme.  She sourced and painted an old metal bed frame, gun metal grey, and set it up in the field beside the cabin.   She carefully selected the bedding and props to have a masculine look including scotch and cigars on the bedside table which was a black vintage trunk.  She also set up little vignettes around the property.  A few chairs here, an animal skin there.  It was breath taking.  I fell in love with this old black bicycle, casually staged with a woolen blanket, some dog wood twigs and a bottle of wine.

Ida from Sweet Sweets prepared a dessert table, and let me tell you, your jaw is about to hit the floor when you see her cake and mini cakes!  The large center piece cake, was designed with the inspiration of a nest in a birch tree.  The detail was just impeccable, right down to the lovebirds names carved in the branches.  The mini cakes were each a piece of birch log with a small bird perched on top.  The detail on these little birds was amazing each feather was hand carved!!  Ida’s other specialty, cubed cupcakes (these are to die for!), were individually wrapped to match the stationery and displayed on a white washed sled.

Laura K Design provided the beautiful stationery.  She designed a nest and feather graphic for the invite and RSVP card and continued another theme by creating a save the date card that was actually a luggage tag!  Printed in two shades of blue, they were stunning.  She also designed simple and elegant escort cards that Selena displayed on a bulletin board that was wrapped in fabric and strung with twine.

Luann’s Country Flowers provided a few floral arrangements to fill out our decor.  She chose a simple colour pallet of off white and beige, and included real eggs and birch bark in the arrangements.  The containers themselves were provided by Hazlitt Vintage Rentals.

Cabaret Vintage Toronto styled our models, Katie and Eric.  Cabaret is a vintage clothing company that has been known to style a wedding or two in their day!  Most of what they carry in their shop is authentic vintage clothing, but they also have designed a wedding line that is modern but vintage inspired (http://www.cabaretvintage.com/category/bridal-the-cabaret-collection-wedding-dresses/) .  Tao provided Katie with elements of both old and new!  She wore three bridal looks though out the shoot.    The first was “The Baby Doll”.   A vintage inspired gown that Tao paired with a black velvet cape circa 1960.  The second was a beaded shift dress, which I believe was also a 1960’s gown.  This was paired with a vintage mink and finally katie wore the dress she sported at her own wedding to Eric earlier this year, “The Soiree”.  This is also a vintage inspired dress that Tao paired with yet another mink.  Katie was gorgeous!  Eric’s look was masculine rugged and bohemian.  I just love his sweater/jacket.  He was so stylish and handsome, and such a great sport to spend his day with all of us ladies!  Both Eric and Katie wore accessories from Pomp and Plumage.  You’ll notice that Katie’s hair accessories and Eric’s boutonnières change in almost every shot!  Denise of Pomp and Plumage designed all of the veils, hair pieces, bouquets, boutonnières, and accessories.  If you haven’t seen Pomp and Plumages design’s yet, you MUST go look at what Denise can create!  Her work is breathtaking and completely original.  Sonia Ryan was the expert on hand to keep Katie looking perfect all day!  She expertly did Katie’s make-up for the shoot.  The look was dark and smokey.  In a word:  Sexy.  Sonia is a expert at doing make-up for photo shoots.  I have had the great pleasure of working with her a number of times and she knows exactly how to apply make up to photograph flawlessly and yet still look beautiful up close and in person!

When I arrived to photograph this scene, I was immediately blown away by the artistry of all of these vendors.  I was amazed at how each of their individual pieces pulled together to create this breath taking image.  There is not a typical wedding vendor in this group.  They are all plain and simply, brilliant.  Their work is sculpture and design using the most unique elements and mediums.  I felt like I was photographing for a gallery and yet each element is so uniquely beautiful and accessible and perfect for a wedding!   I couldn’t be happier with the result!

Sun Valley Glamour From Hillary Maybery Photography

Hillary Maybery Photography sent us Katy and Doug’s wedding saying they “brought city glamour to the mountains” of Sun Valley, Idaho! She couldn’t have been more right …

In her dazzling Romona Keveza gown and Valentino shoes … Katy rocked it.

see the whole gallery here …

And Hillary, captured the day with total brilliance!

From HillaryThis bride has amazing spunk, style, and was one of our FAVORITE and FUN weddings to be a part of. Katy’s look was ‘city glamour’ in the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho. From the home style meals, the atmosphere of the party was very intimate and more like a very fun dinner party rather than a wedding. Katy did have a HUGE surprise for Doug! He thought Idaho was shaped like a foam finger. So Katy had foam Idaho hands made that she kept a secret from him…it actually brought tears to his eyes when Doug walked into the tent and when the guest were waving them!!

Hillary has a  fantastic blog post of Katy and Doug’s wedding with lots more details. Please, please, please take a look!!

Romantic South Carolina Wedding by Open Light Studio

There is something about a fluffy, ruffled, layer-infused dress that speaks to my heart and this dress is indeed speaking to it, maybe even singing to it. Now add to that a pitch-perfect South Carolina wedding, complete with uber romantic flowers and a lovely fabric draped tent and well…this is what they call seventh heaven. Nate Henderson of Open Light Studio completed this pretty equation with his AH-MAZ-ING photography skills and lucky us, there’s even more to pore through in the gallery.

Sam and I had only been dating for a few months when he took me to Spring Island to meet his Dad and Step-mom for the first time. It was on a bike ride across the island that we came upon a wedding event being set up and Sam said, “Wow, wouldn’t this be the perfect place to get married.” Thinking back it was that weekend that I started to fall in love with my husband and knew that if we were ever going to be married Spring Island would be an amazing location for the event. After the engagement it took some time to convince my parents that sweet home Chicago is great, but that our hearts were set on a May wedding on Spring Island.

Spring Island, South Carolina, with its beautiful outdoor chapel shaded by stately live oaks was a perfect spot for the ceremony and the tabby ruins of the former plantation was an elegant backdrop for the cocktail hour. We wanted our wedding to feel effortless yet elegant and romantic. I spent an unmentionable number of hours reading blogs, magazines and books searching for the perfect details to incorporate into our wedding weekend. One very special wedding detail came from Sam’s sister Jennifer Judd McGee, who designed all of the artwork for our save-the-dates and wedding invitations. Jen’s artwork was then transformed by Sarah Parrot of Parrot Design Studio into the most beautiful printed, and letter pressed invitations. I know when a bride looks at her budget, personalized letterpress invitations aren’t at the top of the list, but for me this was the first impression our guests got of Spring Island and our wedding. They are something I will cherish forever. Other important details included the dress, food and photography. My dress was designed by Justin Alexander and I just fell in love with the elegance of the fitted bodice and flowing silk organza of the skirt. My mother and sister will tell you that after traveling with the dress from Boston, it was a labor of love getting it ironed to wedding perfection. I kept my jewelry simple, a sapphire and diamond necklace which once belonged to Sam’s grandmother (also my something blue), plus a pearl and rhinestone bracelet and hairpins both of which I found on Etsy (which is such a great site for one of a kind wedding accessories). My bridesmaids and I fell in love with the dresses and necklaces from J.Crew; the light blue/grey was the perfect neutral palette for the soft colors of the floral bouquets. Sam and the groomsmen wore custom grey suits by Peter Millar with peach ties from Brooks Brothers.

I cannot say enough about the club on Spring Island, Sean Dempsey the club manager kept wedding planning fun and light hearted, I don’t think the words ‘we can’t do that’ are in his vocabulary. Every detail from the moment our guests arrived was perfectly executed. And lastly photography, Nate Henderson of Open Light Studio was one of my favorite wedding guests. He kept the day fun and relaxing, and the result was just breathtaking. Sam and I were very fortunate to have lots of help from our wonderful families and friends in planning this long distance wedding, especially Lee and Annie Judd, who were indispensable for all things Spring Island.

It’s pretty, it’s feminine, it’s just perfect. And it proves that ballroom weddings are utterly gorgeous. Photographed by Caroline Tran (who we heart) with flowers by the beloved Saipua and a design by the fab Daughter of Design, this is one of those weddings that I’m sure will quickly jump to the op of your favorite list. Jason’s proposal was touching and sentimental. It started with a poem and ended on a bended knee. Soon after, we were surrounded by friends and family delighting in our bliss. The celebration began at dusk and went well into the night. It was a night to remember. Jason and I knew we wanted our wedding to have the same feel; sweet, elegant, romantic and fun!

I started off looking at wedding blogs, including Style Me Pretty, for inspiration. I found myself drawn to ethereal, whimsical, romantic weddings. Chandeliers, candle-lit rooms, soft chiffon, drop veils from Monique Lhuillier, beautiful full peonies, garden roses and lilacs- all were part of my inspiration. Peachy-pink with touches of lilac purple, pinks and chamomile was my color palette. I hand-picked the peach-pink silk-chiffon for my bridesmaids’ dresses and had them custom-made. Not only did the dresses fit them like a glove, but they also showed a bit of their personalities because they were the ones who designed the tops of their dresses. I was also drawn to quirky details. I scoured here and there for the perfect quirky sock for the groomsmen, which I found in Paul Smith. For the bridesmaids, I wanted flowing streams of ribbon for their bouquets. It gave the bouquets a fresh and light element. As for the reception, I wanted guests to feel like they were in an ethereal wonderland full of soft lights and tall branches. I love the organic nature of fresh picked flowers from an English garden and I hoped to reflect that in our floral arrangements.

In all aspects, we had the wedding of our dreams. We knew that the beautiful and majestic Oheka Castle was the only venue we truly desired and was lucky enough to get our wish. Our amazing florists, Saipua in collaboration with Nicolette Camille, did a splendid job adding to the beauty of Oheka with a gorgeous palette and arrangement of flowers. They were so professional and incredibly intuitive. Within minutes of conversing, they understood my vision for my wedding day and they pulled it off without flaw. Our wedding couldn’t have gone so effortlessly without our planner Annie Lee of Daughter of Design and assistants. And finally, our EXTRAORDINARY photographer, Caroline Tran, was there every step of the way to capture all the splendor and elegance.

From the flowers to the cake to the smiles on our guests’ face, it was an amazing day… one I will never forget.

California Wedding by Michelle Warren Photography

I think succulents are taking over the wedding world right now, and I am A OK with that. They make me stop in my tracks when I see their pretty petals, and I instantly want to touch them.  Like right now for instance, each of these images make me want to reach through the screen. Regardless, this delicious affair shot by Michelle Warren Photography is completely succulent in every sense of the word. It’s sweet, it’s personal and wait until you lay your eyes on the desserts from Enjoy Cupcakes – you’ll want to reach right through the screen for sure. For more images so pretty you’ll want to touch them be sure to check out the gallery.

Even before Mark and I got engaged we both new that we wanted a wedding celebration that wasn’t too formal and would be a great party for all of our closest friends and family. We also knew we wanted to get married close to where we had made our home, San Luis Obispo.  As soon as we went to see the Dana Powers House in Nipomo, CA we instantly fell in love and knew it was the place where we would get married.  We decided to get married in the beautiful garden next to the house and have the reception in the barn. The location has so much natural charm and Judi (she lives in the house on the property) keeps the garden perfectly kept and has accumulated so many sweet antiques and collectibles that we didn’t have to bring much else.

I wanted to keep the feeling of the day very soft and romantic without being too feminine.  Laurel at Adornments flowers helped me envision and create a color palette of creams, whites, greens, greys and browns and a little peach. I knew I wanted to use succulents and Laurel made sure to get them in wherever she could.  Since the wedding I have rooted the succulents that she used in my bouquet and have them planted in my backyard which is nice way to remember the day. I took on a few small projects with the help of my mom and MOH.  We made all of the ceremony programs, drink stirrers for my dad’s homemade margaritas that we served as our signature cocktail, and place cards which were hand dyed manila tags from Olive Manna, a fabulous vendor on Etsy.  My MOH handmade all of our favors, 600 homemade caramels. Mark’s friend made the cornhole set that we had set up at cocktail hour.

Two Cooks Catering helped us come up with a simple, local and delicious menu. We wanted to pay tribute to all the delicious BBQ that you find all over the central coast so we knew we had to have BBQ Chicken and Tri Tip. For dessert, we had a table full of cupcakes from Enjoy! Cupcakes. The day couldn’t have been more perfect or run more smoothly and it was beautifully captured by our photographer, Michelle Warren who was accompanied by her husband Ben.  Michelle is so sweet and so incredibly talented whenever I see her pictures I am amazed by how she captured the feeling of the day.

Texas Wedding by Birds of a Feather Events

The folks at Birds of a Feather Events sent us the cutest little wedding to share today. So adorable, in fact, that I kind of want to wrap it up and stick it in my pocket for safe keeping. Plus I’m a sucker for billy balls and there happens to be a plethora at this shindig all caught on film by the talented Tara Swain Photography. If you are a fan of cupcakes, checkered vans and other such light hearted details, you too will appreciate this fete and don’t forget to stop by the gallery. There is even more of this Texas wedding to oh and ahh over.

see it all in the gallery!

8.16 8:16 816 These three numbers in various ways are what started this entire adventure that is now my life. Rather than formally proposing first, Billy decided to set the date first…via text message. He is a bit A.D.D and when he gets into the zone at work (he is a photographer) his mind starts racing. He said that had to be the date, 8.16.2010. My birthday is 6.16 and his is 10.16, and 8.16 met us right in the middle. So, we texted each other at 8:16AM, we texted each other at 8:16PM, our home address is even 3816. Eventually he did propose, with a ring and everything! After much back and forth about elopements, courthouses, and tradition we decided on tradition – we would get married here in the area and have a proper wedding. Only hitch? 8.16 worked for us…and us only! Our parents were not too keen on a Monday night wedding. Long story short, we compromised. Ceremony and reception on the 15th, papers signed on the 16th. Two anniversaries equals two gifts, right?

As soon as I started planning I fell in love with the entire process, it turned into a true passion and when it was all done I wasn’t ready to stop. I was helping other people plan their weddings while I was planning my own. Birds of a Feather Events was born, and I haven’t looked back!

The night before the wedding I just wanted a nice quiet dinner with a handful of my closest girlfriends, I had already been to Vegas 2 weeks prior, so the partying was out of my system! Our wedding was at 2pm, so the hair and make up started early the next morning. We did a first look before the ceremony, which I HIGHLY recommend, they are my favorite photos from the entire day! We did not have a bridal party, just a flower girl, but I decided to surprise my mom and ask her to be my maid of honor about 15 minutes prior to the ceremony. This was definitely one of the highlights of the day. Our ceremony was a comedy of errors, my earring fell off when I hugged my dad, Billy was sweating profusely on his head, and the officiant quoted a lyric from our least favorite band…but all those little things made it that much more memorable and we have some funny stories to tell for years. We decided to wear checkerboard Vans rather than traditional shoes, they are Billy’s favorite and I really wanted to just be comfortable all day. We even talked our dads and the officiant into wearing them as well. I hand made all of the favors during the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding, and most of the decor was purchased from vintage shops or on Etsy. Overall it was a fabulous day and I truly feel like I get to relive it over and over again through my wonderful clients!

Deborah Nadel Design: A Family Covenant

Erika and Anthony’s wedding ceremony and reception took place at Flint Hill in Norcross, Georgia this past September. Erika contacted Deborah Nadel a few weeks before her wedding. She wanted to create a Family Covenant in calligraphy that would be displayed at the ceremony. Similar in idea to a Ketubah, it would express their vows and have space for the bride and groom (and their 80 guests) to sign.

From Deborah … Erika’s wonderful sense of style was apparent in the images she sent me for inspiration: her invitations (which she designed), the logo that she commissioned and planned to use on all her wedding day items (including the cake!) and the link to her wedding website full of wonderful photos and background info. I immediately fell in love with the couple! When the calligraphy artwork was delivered, Erika promised to send me wedding photos. Well, I was blown away when I saw them! Their photographer, Nadia D captured the couple’s playfulness and style as well as all the fabulous details of their wedding.

We LOVE bringing you ideas to personalize your own wedding ~ especially something as special as this! Our congratulations to Erika and Anthony and thanks to Deborah Nadel for sharing!

Napa Valley Wedding by Angie Silvy Photography

Good morning!  I know it’s Monday and the holiday weekend can’t come fast enough but we are heading full force into the week with plenty of gorgeous weddings and loads of inspiration!  To kick it off we have a heart-stopping, vibrant Napa wedding from Angie Silvy Photography!

Blush, orange and green are quickly becoming a favorite color combo of mine and this wedding nails it.  The flowers alone are totally  scrumptious and I am going bananas over those parrot tulips!  This lush affair is not only elegant but sounds like it was a total blast too with pre-dinner margaritas and dance party!  There are more luscious images in the full gallery!

Nelson and I met on Cinco de Mayo at a Mexican restaurant in 2006.  Our relationship was built around adventure.  Whether traveling or meeting up with friends and family, we always had fun.  And through these adventures, we drank delicious wine and ate incredible cuisine, coupled with great company.  And that’s truly the story of our relationship today.  Having great friends and our closest family members surrounding us, amongst a beautiful setting with delicious food and wine and is exactly what we wanted for our wedding day, hence our choosing The Carneros Inn.

Our ceremony was beautiful.  We wanted to get married amongst nature so the Apple Orchard at The Carneros Inn was the perfect spot.  We had very few guests which made it intimate and special.  Rather than Pacabel or Here Comes the Bride, I came down the aisle to a piano player playing the Glasgow Love Theme which was beautiful and made for an emotional start to the ceremony.  As my friend Courtney quoted after the fact, “There wasn’t a dry eye in the orchard.”  We read our own vows which we didn’t hear from each other until the ceremony.  To include our guests as part of the wedding, we did a rose quartz blessing.  Each person was given a rose quartz stone, which holds the quality of love, as they were seated.  In the ceremony, they were told that as they held the stone, it will take on their good wishes for love and happiness.  At certain times throughout the night, our guests blessed our marriage and gave us back the stones.  Now we have those stones in our home with all of the good wishes.

Immediately following the ceremony, every one was given a margarita as we all marched up to the hilltop for dinner and dancing, which symbolized and referenced the day we met on Cinco de Mayo.  The dinner was a big surprise to everyone.  While we had a delicious meal with great wine pairings, we surprised our guests with the entree and served mini burgers with french fries and asparagus, as well as a whole slew of condiments and toppings to build-your-own mini burgers.  I think everyone got a kick out of it!  Beyond just the meal, our dinner setting was stunning.  Julie Stevens Design set the most beautiful, long, field table with a palate of green and ivory and sprinklings of orange tulips and kumquats.  Above the table hung beautiful, crystal chandeliers from the arbor and when the wind would blow, you would hear them chime.

Rather than doing a traditional first dance, we did our ‘first dance’ prior to being seated for dinner and our guests were surprised with “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, performed by our band, Keith Johnson’s All Stars Band.  Rather than some slow, typical first dance song, we had our whole party out on the dance floor dancing and chanting, “Tonight’s gonna be a good night!”  It was a great way to set the tone for the rest of the evening.  I have to hand all the credit on that call over to Nelson.  It was a fantastic idea and a true crowd pleaser.

Nelson and I are laid back and our overall look we were trying to accomplish was casual elegance.  Our intent of the wedding was for everyone to have an enjoyable, down right fun time, with a non-traditional twist.  I think we did just that!  Life is good.  We were overwhelmed with joy and love over the course of our wedding weekend.  Our friends are so special to us and each plays an important role in our lives.
