Kristin and Cody’s wedding was designed to feel like a romantic, modern garden party filled with warmth, personality, and moments of pure fun. We played with soft pastel tones layered in fresh, contemporary ways to create an atmosphere that felt both inviting and elevated. Every detail was thoughtfully personalized to reflect their story, from the floral-forward design to the intimate touches woven throughout the day. Our goal was to create a celebration that felt welcoming, joyful, and beautifully tailored to who they are as a couple, and their wedding unfolded exactly as planned.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]A fun fact about our story is that we actually met at my cousin’s wedding — he was the best man, and neither of us had any idea that day would change our lives. For the proposal, he planned the sweetest surprise. He took me out for dinner, and while we were gone, his parents quietly snuck into our home and filled our bedroom with what felt like a million flowers and glowing faux candles. When we returned, I said I was going to change into something comfy, opened the door, and froze. The whole room was transformed. I turned around to ask what was happening, and he was already down on one knee.[/field]

Cocktail hour unfolded in the two-story gazebo overlooking the ceremony space, where guests enjoyed signature drinks and beautifully crafted canapés, including chicken empanadas with creamy chipotle sauce, seared ahi tuna “tataki” on multigrain crackers with pickled papaya and wasabi aioli, and grilled Alberta beef striploin skewers with teriyaki and toasted sesame. Dinner began with a fresh Caesar salad featuring kale and romaine, followed by guest-selected entrées of Hawaiian mahi-mahi, Alberta AAA beef tenderloin, or mushroom ravioli. The meal concluded with plated tres leches cake, a thoughtful nod to the groom’s favourite dessert – the perfect sweet finish to an unforgettable evening.[/field]

The ceremony’s backdrop overlooked a serene pond, so we chose delicate, airy florals that framed the view without competing with the natural beauty of the grounds. For the reception in the Tourmaline Room, we layered shapes, patterns, and textures to create a modern, immersive design. One of our favourite details was the vision of florals winding organically around tapered candles – a challenging concept that Kate from With The Seasons brought to life with incredible artistry. Guest tables featured a curated mix of full floral arrangements, petite table lamps, tapered candles, speckled stone charger plates, and sand-striped napkins. To incorporate a playful nod to the groom’s love of the NFL ( in particular the Philadelphia Eagles), crest-shaped menus echoed the escort wall’s theme. Even the bar carried personalized touches, with custom cocktail napkins featuring the couple’s dog displayed alongside the signature drink of the night: espresso martinis.

Instead of a traditional cake, Kristin and Cody opted for a playful and modern twist: an espresso martini tower placed beside the bar and dance floor. It became an instant focal point and a stylish nod to their love of hosting a good party. As dinner concluded, guests were invited to enjoy a perfectly chilled espresso martini before heading straight to the dance floor, creating a seamless transition from dining to celebration and setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.

Early in the design process, we learned that the groom is a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, and his fiancée asked for a subtle nod to the team — with one request: make it look good. We happily embraced the challenge. In collaboration with Ali from The Social Page Design Studio, we created custom escort cards inspired by the Eagles logo, reimagined in a refined, modern style that aligned with the overall aesthetic. Each card was placed on a glass of champagne, offering guests a fun, unexpected moment that blended personality with polish as they found their seats.

One of the sweetest moments of the day came from the bride’s desire to surprise her dad with his favourite treat: Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen. We coordinated the delivery in secret and presented the bars on serving trays lined with custom paper featuring the couple’s wedding branding and monogram. To make the moment even more charming, the staff served the father of the bride first, wearing lavender lace gloves that perfectly matched the wedding’s romantic aesthetic. It was a cute surprise and absolutely worth every bit of planning and secrecy.

Dawn Ranch’s towering redwoods and sunlit apple orchard set the tone for an elevated outdoor celebration, where meadow-style florals, soft textiles, gathered greens, and organic materials transformed the landscape into a living extension of Annie and Danny’s adventures together.

Annie and Danny do not have a traditional proposal story. After many years together, they made a thoughtful and intentional decision to formally commit to one another. While they had always known they wanted to spend their lives together, getting legally married was not initially a priority. Over time, however, they realized how meaningful it would be to gather their closest friends, family, and loved ones in one place to celebrate their love. Dawn Ranch felt like the perfect setting, grounded in nature and designed for connection, where guests could stay for the entire weekend and truly feel a sense of community. The celebration unfolded over several days and included a welcome barbecue beneath the sycamore trees, a morning yoga class led by the bride herself, and a relaxed pool party.

Flor de Mar Designs created a winding, garden-style meadow of blooms and textural grasses for the ceremony, nestling the heart-shaped rocks Annie + Danny collected throughout their travels. Guests were given small bags containing a tiny bell, a pen, and slips of paper, and were invited to write well wishes for the couple as Annie and Danny exchanged vows with the microphones turned off. When finished, guests rang their bells, creating a soft, joyful chorus that surrounded the couple as they privately committed to one another. It was an intimate gesture that honored their desire for privacy while still beautifully involving their loved ones in a deeply memorable moment.

At the dinner reception, Annie and Danny surprised guests with an interactive table game, Two Truths and a Lie. Each table was named after a destination the couple had traveled to together, with menu cards featuring two truths and one lie inspired by their adventures in that place. Guests guessed the false story, then opened a sealed answer envelope revealing the true stories alongside Polaroid photos of the couple from that destination. Each table also displayed a heart-shaped stone Danny collected from that same location, framed in reclaimed wood, sparking conversation and connection throughout dinner.

We deliberately contrasted the rugged, centuries-old stone facade of the Manoir Davis with clean, modern styling elements, such as the white chiffon drapery and streamlined furniture. The overall vision aimed to showcase a love story that feels both timeless and perfectly contemporary, honoring the venue’s rich history while appealing to the modern couple with an appreciation for sophisticated simplicity.

Le Manoir Davis in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts is the meticulously restored neoclassical estate, originally known as Château Belvoir, of Canadian “Tobacco King” Sir Mortimer Barnett Davis, built circa 1910. The property, managed by Belvoir, underwent a major restoration and was reopened in 2021, blending prestigious history with modern luxury in the Laurentian mountains. Spanning 10,000 square feet on a 12-acre property, the manor offers 8 elegantly renovated rooms and multiple opulent common areas. It serves as an exceptional and private backdrop for various events, providing a unique and expansive setting for guests.

The suite was photographed alongside a deep forest green surface and the groom’s black silk bow tie and black-and-gold cufflinks, highlighting the sophisticated contrast of the overall color palette.

An Arizona Desert Wedding with Terracotta, Apricot, and Sandstone Hues Beneath the Tortolita Mountains

The design was inspired by a desire to incorporate a meaningful element of Arizona, copper – one of the state’s Five C’s (which are the cultural identities of the state) – served as the foundation. Varying shades of copper and complementary colors were woven throughout the design to complement the natural backdrop of the Tortolita Mountains without competing with it. Building on this palette, natural textures including wood, linen, terracotta, stone, etc. were layered in to create a soft, romantic setting grounded in the surrounding desert landscape.

As the evening transitioned into the after-party, guests enjoyed late-night pizza, including chicken tikka masala as a fun homage to the groom’s Indian heritage, alongside a classic cheese option.

Two additional ground floral arrangements framed the back of the aisle. This design allowed the natural desert landscape to remain prominent, creating a setting that felt both organic and refined. The reception featured two distinct centerpiece styles. Round tables showcased organic arrangements in a desert-inspired color palette, accented with a small cactus at the center and a trio of ribbed pillar candles for soft candlelight. The feasting tables featured a series of low, round floral arrangements in the same palette, layered with ribbed pillar candles to create rhythm, height, and a warm, romantic glow. Together, the two styles balanced texture and scale across the Tortolita Lawn. The stage served as a focal point as guests entered the lawn for the reception, accented with lush, low floral arrangements designed to frame the band without overpowering them. The florals added warmth and cohesion while tying seamlessly into the overall color palette and design. The wood-and-white, checkered dance floor completed the space, subtly reinforcing the natural textures and tones woven throughout the design.

A Hydrangea-Filled Wedding Inspired by Summers in Maine with Soft Blues, Fresh Greens, and Hints of Coral

The wedding palette was inspired by Haley’s lifelong love of hydrangeas, flowers that held deep sentimental meaning from summers spent in New England, visiting her grandmother in Maine. Soft blue hydrangeas became the heart of the design, evoking coastal nostalgia and timeless elegance. As planning progressed, Haley and her mother introduced layered shades of green to bring in a fresh, spring-like energy, along with subtle pops of soft coral and yellow woven into the florals to add dimension and warmth.

The design blended classic Charleston Lowcountry charm with Cape Cod–inspired coastal elegance. Hydrangeas were always intended to be the star, grounding the overall look in tradition and sentiment, while oyster details, garden-inspired florals, and layered textures brought the vision to life. With the guidance of her planners, Christina and Mia of Christina Baxter Events, and her mother, Haley’s ideas were transformed into a cohesive, story-driven design, one where each detail felt thoughtful, romantic, and intentionally connected.[/field]

Haley and Nick’s proposal took place in Kennebunkport, Maine, an incredibly meaningful location for Haley, who spent many summers there visiting her grandparents and falling in love with New England’s coastal charm. While in town for a close friend’s wedding over Labor Day weekend, Nick planned what Haley thought was a simple brunch outing the morning after the celebration. As they walked along the ocean, Nick casually suggested they head closer to the water after claiming he spotted a whale offshore. Navigating the rocky beach in platform heels, Haley quickly realized something was happening when she noticed a photographer nearby. Nick, being visibly nervous, turned to her with a heartfelt speech meant just for the two of them. He dropped to one knee and asked her to be his wife, leaving Haley overwhelmed with emotion and tears before finally managing to say yes. Moments later, their parents appeared to celebrate alongside them! Nick had secretly flown his mother in from New York so she could be part of the moment. The rest of the day was spent celebrating throughout Kennebunkport, soaking in the joy of the engagement and creating memories Haley will cherish forever.

Finding the wedding gown was an emotional journey for Haley. Inspired by the elegance of Hailey Bieber’s off-the-shoulder, long-sleeve lace look, she searched for something timeless and romantic. After several appointments and a moment of doubt, she found her dress at Anjolique Bridal, ironically, the very first gown she tried on there. As she slipped into the dress, Enchanted by Taylor Swift played in the background, the SAME song she had always envisioned walking down the aisle to, performed instrumentally by a quartet. Overcome with emotion, Haley knew instantly she had found “the one.”

Floating overhead, it became a breathtaking focal point and one of Haley’s favorite elements of the day. Textured blue linens, green cut glass goblets, and silver berry and thread napkin rings elevated the tablescape. Soft draping and custom green lampshades added warmth and whimsy to the space. Oyster shell escort cards guided guests to their tables, offering a meaningful nod to both Charleston’s coastline and the couple’s New England roots.

Accompanied by Prosecco and Aperol Spritz. At the dinner they served a delicious menu: Mezzelune (handmade pasta) stuffed with ricotta and spinach, with melted butter and thyme Handmade Tagliolini with confit cherry tomatoes, burrata, and crystallized basil Prepared on a BBQ close to the dinner area: The Chianina Bistecca alla Fiorentina (T-bone Steak) with porcini mushrooms and truffle plus mixed vegetables au gratin As dolce: Vanilla and fresh raspberry cake with decadent white chocolate ganache and seedless raspberry jam Accompanied by delicious white and red wines from the area. All of the beautiful painting-like florals were provided by the wonderful La Gardenia and flawlessly encompassed the airy, timeless Fine Art Style of the photographer Stella Mia, the venue Villa Montanare, and their owner, Weddings by Silke. The stunning, fluffy bridal bouquet of the beautiful bride,e Michel, le looked just like a perfect soft pastel painting. Her handsome groom, Austin, was wearing an elegant black tuxedo with a pastel-toned boutonniere and a blush-colored silk ribbon – like the ribbons of Michelle’s bridal bouquet. Their intimate ceremony took place in the open air, in the romantic olive garden in the backyard of the Villa, with an open floral arch installation and floral compositions along the aisle designed to emphasize the amazing, beautiful landscape and panoramic view. At their dreamy dinner reception under an elegant gazebo, the entrance was decorated with arch flowers on both sides. The tablescape was designed with antique blush tablecloths and the lush floral centerpieces and various ivory candles with hurricanes and crystal table lights, which fitted so perfectly withthe golden-edgedd crockery and glasses.

For the cocktail hour, the couple engaded a amazing guitar & singer, who played Italian American love songs. For the dinner and party, a DJ played the favorite songs of the couple. Their decided as ther first dance “Real Love Baby” by Father John Misty. At night,t they had a fireplace next to the dining area and bar, which made the romantic atmosphere just more cozy.

From the anticipation of meeting in the olive groves for our ceremony to reciting our personal vows in front of our closest loved ones, the entire day was filled with emotion, beauty, and intention. Villa Montanare offered beauty around every corner, making each moment feel tranquil and unforgettable. A Coastal Fine Art Wedding Weekend in Pastel Blue with Vibrant Haldi and Blush Sangeet Celebrations

Mitali & Ryan chose a pastel palette for their Wedding celebration, inspired by the coastal charm of South Florida. Baby blue was a highlight throughout the Wedding day palette and was used for thebridesmaids’s dresses and day-of stationery. It was accented by soft blush, yellow, peach, and cream colors. Their Haldi Ceremony took place the day prior, and featured a more vibrant variation of the Wedding palette with an emphasis on tumeric yellow as a nod to Haldi tradition. Their Sangeet followed that evening, and we chose to emphasize the soft blush from their overall palette as the primary color for the Sangeet design.

The overall inspiration for Mitali & Ryan’s Wedding design was coastal fine art, which was inspired by the location and incorporated a soft pastel palette, loose and organic florals, light and airy design, and personal romantic touches woven throughout. Mitali and Ryan’s Wedding Weekend was cross-cultural, with traditions from each of their backgrounds featured throughout the weekend’s events. It was important for Mitali, who was born in India, to include the Haldi & Sangeet traditionsino their Wedding Weekend, so we planned both events to take place the day before their traditional Wedding. We hosted an intimate Haldi Ceremony on Friday morning at a carefully selected Airbnb that could accommodate the event. Their Sangeet followed that evening at The Wonder Gardens and served as a Welcome Party for all of their guests to kick off the weekend’s festivities.

Mitali and Ryan’s Wedding was catered by the venue, The Club at Mediterra, which features world-class cuisine. Their cocktail hour kicked off with Kentucky Mule & Mai Tai Signature Cocktails on the Ballroom’s Terrace. Butler passed hors dd’oeuvresof Cilantro-Lime Chicken Satay, Petite Maryland Crab Cake, Coconut Shrimp, nd Wild Mushroom Tartlets were served to guests, followed by a plated choice of entrée of either Filet Mignon, Salmon, or Stuffed Portobello Mushroom. An assorted dessert display of Cheesecake Bars, Key Lime Pie Bars, Brownies, and Eclairs provided by the Club accompanied their wedding cake,e which was from Publix. Before the night was over, pizza was passed as late-nightht snack for guests to savor after a night of dancing. During Mitali and Ryan’s Sangeet the evening before, they served a traditional Indian buffet catered by The Spice Club Naples. Passed appetizers included Vegetarian Masala, Puffs with Cilantro Chutney, Samosa Chaat, and Chicken Cilantro Skewers paired with an Open Bar provided by The Twisted Trotter. The Buffet featured an assortment of Indian dishes, including: Matar Paneer, Butter Chicken, Gobi Manchurian, Chicken Biryani with Raita, Jeera Pulao, GarlicNaana,n and Peda/Boondi Laddoo.

The floral design was a top priority for Mitali and Ryan, and Signature Florals did an incredible job capturing the vision throughout the weekend’s events! The Wedding Ceremony featured a stunning freestanding floral arch in the wedding palette with white petals sprinkled down the aisle, and oversized arrangements on columns at the top of the aisle to ground the overall design. We carried the floral design into the Reception, with luscious, tall floral centerpieces and low compote floral centerpieces paired with light blue taper candles. Glass was a primary material for the accent decor to provide a light and airy feel throughout the design. We opted for elevated chair rentals for the Ceremony and Reception, which made a huge impact in the overall design, and were provided by Trinity Event Rentals along with glass scalloped chargers and an arched bookcase that staged their custom seating chart. For the Sangeet the evening before, we elected to do a cocktail-style layout with a mix of high-top and low bistro tables paired with honey bentwood chairs that were carefully placed around a honey oak and white dance floor that set the stage for the event to unfold. All rentals, including a lounge set that served as a photo backdrop next to the English conservatory, were provided by Trinity Event Rentals. We wanted to have more fun with the design of the Sangeet, so we decided to incorporate disco balls from Kelsi Elizabeth Events’ inventory throughout the design.

Mitali and Ryan both enjoy Publix cake and decided to stick with a classic 3-tier wedding cake for their celebration. They chose a classic beaded edge design that was accented by light blue taper candles and florals on each tier in the wedding palette.

The invitation suite was carefully selected from different designs to tie together all of the design elements of the weekend, and even included a sage green English conservatory for the Sangeet invitation that was a nod to the venue. The suite was tied together with a soft blue silk ribbon that matched the choice of the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Mitali and Ryan’s Sangeet took place the evening before their Wedding, and doubled as a Welcome Party at The Wonder Gardens. Guests entered the park and enjoyed a preview of all of the park’s beautiful wildlife on the way to the Sangeet, which was held on the Peacock Lawn. Set amongst the trees and wildlife, the location featured a stunning sage green English conservatory that served as a beautiful backdrop for the event amongst the natural beauty of the park itself. A henna artist was on-site to provide traditional Indian henna to guests during the event. Guests danced the night away, and were surprised by choreographed dance performances by both the Bride and her Bridesmaids and the Groom and his Groomsmen. It was definitely a highlight of the whole weekend!

Mitali and Ryan met in a library exactly ten years before their Wedding date while they were in college, which was the inspiration behind the design for their custom seating chart which featured an arched bookcase rented from Trinity Event Rentals with custom covered books in the wedding palette that Kelsi Elizabeth Events sourced and displayed for each guest which indicated their table assignment and doubled as a guest favor. It was a huge hit and elevated the guest experience!

Koplow’s now envisioned a romantic European-inspired celebration set against the dreamy backdrop of Virginia’s rolling vineyards, blending Old World elegance with modern sophistication. Very Bespoke Events brought this vision to life with a stunning, large-scale draped ceremony arch where the couple exchanged vows as delicate fabric billowed gracefully in the breeze, creating an ethereal moment against the vineyard landscape. The ceremony design featured elegant anthem seating surrounding a vinyl aisle and stage, while the couple walked down the aisle to the enchanting sounds of a harpist and cello duo by Megan the Harpist and her husband. Inspired by the aurora borealis—the same natural wonder under which Ben proposed in Iceland—the palette and design blended muted sage green, warm ivory, natural greens, layered neutrals, airy ikebana-style florals, and a warm honey-toned glow, resulting in a look that felt elevated, organic, and deeply connected to the couple’s story. From the Bride: “Before the planning began, I envisioned a day that felt deeply personal, emotional, and unforgettable—not just for us, but for everyone who attended. I didn’t want it to feel overly traditional or overly trendy—I wanted it to feel like us. I imagined something timeless but unique, elegant but warm, full of intentional details that told our story. I knew I wanted to honor our families, create beautiful memories with our closest friends, and make sure the love and joy we felt that day radiated throughout the celebration. Most of all, I wanted our guests to walk away feeling like they had witnessed something truly meaningful—and that they had fun!” Every detail reflected that vision. For the reception tables, we embraced an ikebana-inspired floral approach to achieve something artful, airy, and intentionally placed. This style was especially fitting for the Oxford Exchange’s sleek, elongated tables. Ikebana allowed the florals to feel sculptural and expressive without overwhelming the tablescape, complementing the venue’s minimalist elegance. A blend of pearlized sand cylinder candles, staggered down the tables, along with mauve taper candles in ribbed hurricanes, created a beautifully diffused light throughout the space. The candlelight cast a subtle honeyed glow across the tablescape, enriching the palette with warmth and dimension. From the Bride: “I wanted florals that felt lush, organic, and romantic, with lots of candlelight to add warmth and glow. Blossom Cart, along with my wedding planner, brought that vision to life so beautifully—I teared up when I saw the final setup. It was breathtaking and completely captured the mood I dreamed of.”

The photos were printed and framed to blend into the gallery wall seamlessly. If you knew, you knew—and if not, they still hung beautifully among the other art.”

Every detail—from the gowns to the florals—was chosen to complement the château’s character and capture the feeling of refined Parisian romance.

Well, we’ve enlisted the help of Lance Nicoll – photographer behind some of those beloved e-sessions that make their way around pinterest and instagram and the eye behind some of SMP’s most popular weddings. And being the great guy that he is, Lance is breaking it all down for us so that despite our nerves…killer engagement photos are just a click away.

Make it an Adventure

Choosing your location for your engagement or couple’s session is one of the key components to any great shoot. Sometimes, we have amazing scenic settings right in our backyard, but if not, don’t be hesitant to turn your engagement session into an adventure. Hopping in the car and road tripping it to neighboring towns, places and spaces is a sure way to ensure that your backdrop is inspiring to you. If it’s inspiring, it will set the foundation for incredibly photography. Or if you are really up for something special, making a mini-vacation around your engagement session can also be a great idea as well. Be adventurous and make your session location a lifetime memory in itself.

Take the Time to Plan Your Attire

Give special consideration to your wardrobe for the day. Possibly asking your photographer for their insight can be a great way to start. I always tell my couple’s that dressing up looks fantastic but it is important to feel like yourself as well. For ladies soft, flowy solids are always beautiful. Brilliant colors like reds and blue can also be stunning. I personally recommend staying away from complex patterns as they can take away from you and your surroundings. For my guys, I say dress accordingly to your fiancé. Casual pants and a sport coat can be a nice first look or a nice button down without the jacket can be great, then for your second look just step it up a bit – a nice tailored suit without the tie can be a perfect option. When you feel good in what you are wearing, a natural confidence or softness comes thru and the imagery is that much more lovely.

Lose yourself … In Each Other

It sounds counter-intuitive, but I tell my couple’s “it’s just you two here, no one else. This is the person you love more than anyone else in the world, forget I am here and just be in love.” I love to give easy simple directions and allow my couples to get swept away in how they feel for each other. Usually after the first few minutes I can sense our couple’s getting comfortable and just being in the moment. This is another reason why location can be so important, private spaces can lend to more intimate beautiful imagery.

That said, even to the most in love pair, putting aside nerves can be a challenge. And yet the solution is often really simple. Talk to each other. Tell each other about your day or recount a funny/charming/romantic moment that you had together. Start with a joke. That is usually all it takes to crack the tension and give you the space to relax and just let the day unfold.

Take Your Time

Creating authentic and engaging images with your photographer means not feeling rushed. Take your time. Having more than one location and planning smartly with your photographer is key. Having a sunrise location and a sunset location can be a great way of ensuring plenty of time for amazing images. Take your time, I’d rather my couples have 100 lifelong memories rather than 1000 rushed images. As a photographer who shoots with film, we are innately trained to slow down, to talk to our couple’s, shoot a few frames, and then step back and assess how we can capture our couple exactly as they are.

For photographer’s out there, talk to your couple during the shoot, ask them questions – simple ones and more storied ones – and sometimes just step back and watch them, don’t shoot. Familiarize with how they interact naturally. And let that be your guide.

Follow the Light.

It may be a tip that you’ve heard before…but only because it’s so important. Plan around ideal lighting. This may mean getting up very early for that beautiful morning light and being ready in the evening for that golden hour before sunset. Shooting with soft golden light brings an un-paralleled beauty and warmth to your collection.

Also, be prepared to be flexible. If traveling in for a session I always like to have a back-up time slot, so for instance if we get rained out or weather isn’t cooperating we can shoot the next morning.

On July 8, 2023, what began as a normal Saturday morning for Rachel was anything but for Dale. The evening before, they had gone to a Matchbox Twenty concert with close friends, and the next day, Rachel believed they were headed to an 11:00 am brunch at The Breakers with business colleagues. When Dale casually suggested a walk on the beach before their reservation, Rachel found it slightly odd (since Dale never wants to walk on the beach), but she agreed. As they reached the shoreline, a man dressed head-to-toe in black caught Rachel’s attention, but Dale gently guided her further down the beach. A few steps later, he stopped, took her hands, and began to tell her how deeply he loved her and how much he looked forward to their future and building a family together. Rachel did not yet realize the mysterious man was actually the photographer Dale had hired, quietly capturing every moment. Dale made it through half his prepared speech before simply asking the question. Rachel said yes. The moment continued with photos along the water before Rachel remembered they were late for brunch. Dale smiled and admitted there was no brunch, only time for the two of them. Afterward, they returned home, where friends and family were secretly gathered for a surprise celebration. When Rachel opened the door to cheers and congratulations, it became the perfect ending to a perfect proposal day.

One of my favorite parts of the wedding experience was choosing gowns that reflected each moment of the celebration, and I loved being able to express a slightly different side of myself through each look. For the ceremony, I wore a Netta Benshabu gown. It was truly romantic, ethereal, and intricately detailed in a way that felt perfectly suited to the grandeur of Luttrellstown Castle. It was elegant without being heavy, and the movement of the fabric as I walked through the castle halls felt like something out of a storybook. Later that evening, for the reception, I changed into a gown by Aston Bridal, which was sleek, modern, and designed for dancing. It allowed me to move freely, greet guests, and fully immerse myself in the celebration while still feeling beautifully elevated and bridal. The change in silhouette felt like a natural progression from ceremony to celebration, marking the transition into the most joyful, high-energy part of the night. The day before the wedding, at our welcome party, I wore a gown by Milla. It was playful, fresh, and perfect for the more relaxed tone of the evening. It set the stage for the days to come and made the welcome event feel like the beginning of a larger story rather than simply a pre-wedding gathering.

Rather than choosing a single uniform color, we wanted our bridesmaids to each look and feel uniquely themselves, so we selected a palette of soft, romantic tones that flowed together beautifully. The dresses spanned pastel shades (lilac, pale blue, soft green, blush, champagne, and sky blue), which created a painterly, almost garden-like effect against the backdrop of the castle grounds. Each gown had its own silhouette and personality, allowing every bridesmaid to shine individually, while still feeling cohesive as a group. The varied palette brought a sense of freshness and modernity to the wedding, and the contrast against the greenery and stone of Luttrellstown Castle made the entire scene feel like a living piece of artwork.

The goal was a garden-like atmosphere with colour and texture everywhere. We envisioned a wedding aisle that felt like a garden path, a staircase that looked as if it had grown wild overnight (but still colourful), and a reception ballroom becoming a setting that felt full and alive, not just arranged for show. We used a heavy amount of hydrangeas, roses, peonies, and cascading greenery to accomplish our dream look. Accenting the florals, the candlelight, and the chandeliers made everything glow, and it truly felt like the whole venue was blooming around us and, most importantly, like home. The result was exactly what we imagined — elegant, abundant, and deeply romantic.

Skilled planner Dana Jensen had put the new layout and timeline into play, transforming the space to suit what became a very rainy day and an exceptionally tight two-hour setup window. With teamwork, precision, and creative problem-solving, the result was a beautifully executed tented celebration that kept every detail intact and every guest comfortable- rain or shine.

One of the greatest gifts of hosting a wedding in Crete is the island’s extraordinary food culture. As an agricultural region rich with local produce, herbs, and olive oil, the catering embraced a truly farm-to-table approach, showcasing the flavors that make Cretan cuisine so celebrated. Guests were welcomed with chilled water bottles wrapped in personalized labels, a thoughtful touch against the warm summer heat, before enjoying an elegant selection of canapés, including crisp leek pies in delicate phyllo, savory chicken skewers, rs and refreshing watermelon–feta bites that honored the island’s seasonal ingredients. Dinner unfolded as a refined expression of Cretan gastronomy: octopus carpaccio, stuffed zucchini flowers, rustic breads enriched with olives and cheese, vibrant salads, and a beautifully composed duo of mains — lamb ossobuco over truffle risotto and lemon-roasted chicken served with seasonal vegetables. At the bar, the couple’s custom “His & Hers” cocktails — a bright Mojito and a Spicy Margarita — were served alongside Ginger Passion, Aperol Spritz, local wines from Manousakis Winery, and Greek draft beer. Later in the evening, an espresso cart and artisanal ice cart appeared as a playful, luxurious finale, giving guests a refreshing close to a culinary experience deeply rooted in Crete’s land and culture.

A White and Green Vow Renewal Among Olive Groves and Cypress Hills

From the planner: An intimate vow renewal surrounded by rolling hills and tall cypress trees. Guests are seated on simple wooden and iron chairs, arranged along a stone path leading to a natural ceremony space framed by lush white and green floral arrangements. The setting feels peaceful and romantic, with soft blooms blending beautifully into the rustic, timeless landscape. Guests mingle by the sparkling water, surrounded by views of rolling vineyards and olive groves, with the golden light of the setting sun casting a warm glow. Rustic wooden tables are topped with trays of local cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta, and olives, alongside chilled prosecco, Aperol spritzes, and crisp white wines — the perfect start to an evening of celebration. Long tables are set under the open sky or beneath strands of soft, glowing string lights, surrounded by stone walls, olive trees, and the golden hues of the landscape. Tables are dressed with simple, elegant linens, fresh greenery, and clusters of white and green flowers, letting the natural beauty of the setting shine. As dinner winds down, the celebration moves inside to the Bella Vista Room, where a DJ sets the tone for an unforgettable after-party filled with dancing, late-night drinks, and joyful energy that carries into the early hours.

Craig and I got engaged on Christmas Day in 2015—just weeks after I’d moved from South Africa to join him in a small town in Canada. We spent that Christmas in Banff, and honestly? The engagement felt like the easiest “yes” of my life, even though everything else about that season felt uncertain and new. We had just uprooted our entire lives. New country. New town. New everything. So when it came to planning a wedding, we made the practical choice: a small, intimate ceremony. We told ourselves we’d have the “big celebration” later—maybe in a year or two, once we’d settled in. But life happened. One year became five. Five became eight. And somewhere along the way, I quietly let go of the idea that we’d ever have the wedding I’d dreamed of. It felt like the moment had passed, like we’d missed our window. And then one day we just looked at each other and said, What if we still do the big wedding? It snowballed into a 3-day destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy, with 30 of our favorite people.

My gown is the Iris Gown by Newhite from Blush and Raven. The moment I put it on, I knew. It felt like me—elevated but not fussy, romantic but not overdone, timeless but still fresh. The pleated tulle A-line skirt gave me that dreamy, ethereal look for the ceremony, but I loved that I could remove it (we separated it in the alterations) for the reception to reveal a more fitted silhouette for dancing. Two looks, one dress—it was perfect. But what made it truly special was using matching fabric from my skirt overlay to create my daughter’s custom flower girl dress. We kept it a secret from Craig—he hadn’t seen her dress before the wedding day either, so he had a ‘first look’ with her too when she walked down the aisle. Of course, he was in tears!

Food and drinks were classically Italian. With a pizza party for the welcome party with prosecco and rosé. The wedding dinner included two pasta courses and a beef entree. A display of pastries and sweets was displayed during the dance party!
