Designer Tips for a Stunning Color + Pattern Combo

Remember this insanely rad playroom? Well the designer behind that beauty, Kendall Simmons, has another pattern happy space to share and this one is downright gorgeous and all for the adults. It’s a dining room that maximizes color and pattern and one that’s just begging for a fabulous dinner party (or ten). Plus, Kendall is sharing a few insider tips she’s picked up along the way to really make your space shine. See even more captured by Catherine Truman in the VAULT.

Natasha and Jeff love bold color and pattern. Since we had worked together before on other rooms in their home, I knew that I could push the design envelope further with them than with most clients!

The existing dining room had good bones to begin with, including wainscoting, applied fretwork detailing on the ceiling, and a beautiful crystal and gold chandelier that we decided to keep and work around. For everything else, we started with a clean slate!

My starting point for the design was the wallpaper. I reviewed many different bold colors and patterns with them before landing on this classic Schumacher Queen of Spain print. I then layered in the bold green velvet on the settee, and the black and white custom drapery with wide greek key trim.

– TIP –

If you are starting with a blank space and don’t know how to get started, commit to one bold item (a wallpaper or piece of artwork for example) and build the rest of your selections around it. This gives you a rallying point and keeps you from veering off track!

Art was one of the most critical components of this room design. I prioritized original art, since this dining room is one of the most visible spaces in the entire house. The large Erin McIntosh painting over the buffet, and the pair of small 8×8 Ed Nash paintings flanking the window are all superstars. But I supplemented the original pieces with a simple black and white cactus photograph from Minted.com and stylized gold geometric mirrors from Target.

– TIP –

Original artwork doesn’t have to break the bank. Search your area for local artists who are just beginning their careers. You can often find their work at small local galleries, or art sales benefiting schools or charities.

Natasha and Jeff love to entertain friends and family, and they also have two young daughters, so the room needed to be as durable as possible without sacrificing style. The rug is a pieced cowhide design, which cleans easily. The green velvet settee is covered with an applied stain guard protectant, and the white host and hostess chairs are slipcovered in indoor/outdoor fabric to guard against stains.

– TIP –

If you have existing upholstery, rugs or drapery in your home that are in high-traffic areas or areas prone to stains (example: food or wine spills in a dining room) consider having them fiber-sealed by a local company. Most of these cleaning companies will come to your home for free to provide an estimate. Often times the cost of fiber-sealing is much more affordable than having to replace the damaged piece later.

The bar cart is a signature element. This brass bamboo cart adds sculpture to the room, and I loved loading it down with beautiful and functional bar accessories and a generous selection of liquors and mixers.

– TIP –

When stocking your bar, be sure to purchase liquors that come in beautiful, colorful packaging (not just the ones that you drink regularly). This adds visual interest and contrast to your bar, and who knows, you may discover something new that you’ve never tried before! A perfect example of this is Bombay Sapphire gin because of it’s vibrant blue color.

The vintage style ginger jars were the final element that I added to the room. I chose to accessorize with only a few, bold items rather than many small ones in order to make a more impactful statement.

– TIP –

Don’t be afraid to load down your dining table with oversized accessories. Most people only use their dining rooms a few times a year, and when those times come it’s quick and easy to relocate the large accessories to another room in the house so that you can set the table for dinner.

From Jessica OH… Nate + Golnaz were married at Studio 450 in NYC. Paying homage to Golnaz’s hertiage, a “so-freh” was placed at the ceremony sight + housed many elements signifying different blessings for the couple. During the ceremony, the couple fed each other honey + had sugar sprinkled above their heads by family + close friends.

Golnaz’s gown was handmade just for her by one of her favorite designers, Hussein Chalayan. Wanting a handmade touch to her chic wedding day, Golnaz’s mother knitted all the little hearts for the seating chart.

The couple opted to have a logo that was featured on her invitation suit, welcome bags + a neon sign overlooking the dance floor. The couple also had their hashtag, #nateandgolnazforever made into a neon sign for the guest polaroid book table.

Instead of a Huge Portuguese Wedding, This Couple Had a Small Napa Affair

When this Bride and Groom began to plan their wedding, they knew that with their large families, it had the potential to become “My Big Fat Portuguese Wedding.” So instead, the duo made the decision to escape to Napa’s The Carneros Inn for an intimate wedding with 60 of their closest friends and family. And with vendors like Bella Bridal Napa ValleyErin Hearts Court and Morocco Lee, the end result is simply perfect. Take it all in in The Vault!

From The Bride…Nelson and I met 11 years ago at a Halloween party and as ridiculous as we looked we knew we were destined for each other! Our love grew stronger over the years and led to us moving into our tiny shoebox apartment in NYC. Those were some of our best years and we soon after got engaged in Paris. We both come from large Portuguese families and knew our wedding had the potential to become huge and overwhelming so we made the decision to make it an intimate setting with 60 of our closest friends and family. Nelson and I felt a deep connection to the romantic, rustic, and organic feel of Napa after having visited. That helped set the vibe for our big day and we’re so happy we followed our gut. We started the festivities with treating our guests to a wine tasting tour of three of Napa’s wonderful vineyards. We had a blast! Our wedding day was picture perfect. The ceremony and cocktail was held outside in sunny 80 degree weather. Following we had a wonderful dinner inside the bright and airy Hilltop room at Carneros Inn with sweeping views of Napa vineyards. The food was amazing and the staff at Carneros couldn’t have been more seamless. We were worry free as we danced the night away with our friends and family!

A Portugal Wedding Straight From a Fairytale (Castle Included!)

I’ve always known the duo behind Brancoprata could work some serious wedding magic, but this day is what I personally deem off-the-charts. They brought all my fairytale dreams to life at Pousada Viana Do Castelo, not to mention a sweet ending to the celebration created by T Bakes. I mean, a dreamy gown, castle views, and this handsome fur baby – could you ask for anything more? I think not.

From BrancoprataThis wedding day was a dream. From the entire team involved, to the venue location and especially the couple. In our first meeting with Andrea and Oscar we immediately connected with them, not only because we have similar taste in music and movies (go Arcade Fire and Wes Anderson) but also because we loved every single detail they planned for their special day. From getting ready with their closest friends and family, to the bride walking down the aisle with her young brother, to dance the night away to their favorite dj, everything fell in the right place. The vision for this wedding was almost immediate, a mix from French romance with an outdoor ceremony facing the beautiful city of Viana do Castelo.

The lush greens and florals made quite an impact at the ceremony site and for the dinner area, an elegant room at Pousada de Santa Luzia, the timeless and romantic inspiration set the tone. A stunning cake by extraordinaire designer Tânia Sérgio from T Bakes was the final touch to this delicate and elegant affair.

A Gelato Recipe That Will Have You Licking the Bowl Clean

I’m pretty sure this might be the most genius indulgence I’ve ever created. I’m not trying to pat myself on the back or anything, but when you marry two classics like gelato and popcorn (sea salt caramel from Ava’s Popcorn to be exact)—magical things happen. The proof is in the pudding (er uh, gelato!).

And you bet your bottom I’ll be making another trip to Ava’s Popcorn shop online—the coolest popcornery around—to try all the fabulous flavors. The stuff is addictive guys, really.

Serves 0Ingredients
  • 2½ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • ¾ cup cream of coconut
  • ½ cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp coconut extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
  1. Combine milk, coconut milk, coconut sugar and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a low boil, but be careful not to scorch. Combine corn starch and cream of coconut and add to saucepan.
  2. Cook on low and whisk often so that clumps do not form. The mixture is cooked when you can run a line on the back of a spoon without the mixture coming back together.
  3. Pour mixture in a glass dish and let sit until at room temperature. Once it has cooled, chill in the refrigerator for 12 hours.
  4. Add mixture to an ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s directions. Half way through, slowly add the coconut flakes. Transfer to a container and freeze until desired firmness.
  5. Serve topped with Ava's sea salt caramel popcorn and enjoy!

A Boho Horse Farm Wedding With Loads of Style

When “home” is a private estate outside of Chicago, it’s a no-brainer to have an at-home wedding. The family horse farm was the perfect venue for this fun duo to create their dream day — complete with an all-night dance party thanks to Toast & Jam and endless fun with Smilebooth. And thanks to Averyhouse‘s gorgeous photography, we have lots pretty for you to explore in The Vault!

From AveryhouseIf the thought of a tented backyard wedding complete with a horse stable, wild flower arrangements, and the perfect Summer breeze makes you gush with excitement then Lauren + Nick’s wedding is right up your alley. We got to know Lauren + Nick during their Oak Park Engagement Session when these two made the big move from Chicago to their new home together. Nothing gets us more excited for a wedding then when we know our client’s unique style is such a great fit with ours. Nick had mentioned to us that the wedding would be on his family’s private estate and we really had no idea what to expect. From Lauren’s perfectly whispy gown for her outdoor affair to their pastel color palette we couldn’t help but share these beautiful details with all of you. With some sunshine above, but rain on the forecast these two had a simple + sweet ceremony followed by custom cocktails (and local beers) on the lawn. Not to mention some mouth watering hors d’ oeuvres for guests to pick on before being led to a white tent adorned with locally farmed flowers planted just for their wedding. With Toast & Jam keeping the dance floor packed and Smilebooth to document all of the late night shenanigans we’ll be dreaming about this unique tented wedding for years to come.

Peonies, Peaches + A Love Note For Every Single Guest

Being in the position I am lucky enough to be in, I see plenty of sweet and innovative ideas, but well, this one takes the cake. This couple wrote a thank you note to each and every guest and that little love note acted as their escort card. It gets even better: these cute cards were displayed in a variety of pretty pastel colors, creating quite the sight to see. But it was just one of many for this sweet celebration, captured by Jenny Smith & Co. See this delightful display and more in our Vault here!

From the Bride… Before we started planning, I envisioned our wedding as bright and happy – with lots of color and lots of flowers! It was important to me that the design reflect both me and Eric, and I wanted an atmosphere where both our grandparents and our crazy college friends could really enjoy themselves.
It was so much fun working with our wedding planner to figure out our design! Our venue, the Loft on Pine, brought so much elegance and drama with its exposed brick and wrought iron, so we decided to bring in light, bright, modern elements to achieve the summery look I had envisioned. We landed on a color palette of pale blue and white with gorgeous peaches, rosy pinks, and light green accents. It was so pretty!

One of the most meaningful elements of our day was our love notes. Before the wedding, Eric and I hand wrote a short note to each of our guests thanking them for being there. Then, our lovely planners put all the notes together into a fabulous display, and they became escort cards! I may or may not have been finishing up some of those notes the night before the wedding (oops), but despite the self-imposed time crunch, it was really special to be able to express my gratitude to each of my loved ones individually. Another unique element was the peaches! As a Texas girl, I know that peaches are one of the best things about summer (also, they are adorable), so we incorporated them into our design as delicious place card holders. We were also lucky enough to have a talented brass quintet perform our ceremony music. Eric and I are both brass players – we met in the UCLA Marching Band – so hearing the brass made walking down the aisle even more magical.

One of my favorite details was the big, pink peony in my hair. It just made me so happy. And one of my favorite moments was trying to get it to stay! My mom and matron of honor got pretty creative with bobby pins!

My dress, Watters Amari, had this incredible fabric – white on white floral jacquard – that you just wanted to touch. It was a big ball gown that moved beautifully; I really felt like a bride. Our flowers were incredible: peonies, garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, greenery. The flower arrangements, candles, and peaches made the room feel so festive and warm. The cake was both delicious and beautiful (marble cake with chocolate mousse filling), but in the midst of all the dancing and merrymaking, I only ended up having one bite!

My advice for brides-to-be: don’t forget to eat cake! More than just the bite your new spouse feeds you!

This Party Gets the Best Brunch Ever Award

This shower crafted by Twenty Three Layers along with florals by Van Vliet & Trap should get the best ever brunch award and it has everything to do with the dessert spread. Donuts, artisan marshmallows AND gem shaped cookies are only the beginning. Try adding a savory farm-to-table breakfast, like 3 billion choices of drink bars and a sea of pretty color captured by Kathleen O’Donnell. It’s proving that being surrounded by pastel is the best way to brunch. A mimosa bar helps too.

We just loved planning this very special shower for our guest of honor! Such a fun theme with our favorite color palette (pastels) + a modern twist of geometric shapes giving the room a clean, fun and lively vibe!

As guests enter the space they drop books and gifts onto the custom book cart. Servers offer them welcome cocktails and a specialty mocktail we named “Flower Child” as the mocktail was adorned with edible flowers. We built a custom juice bar with Juice Press organic juices which was a total crowd pleaser! Along with a Mimosa + Bloody Mary station set up on opposite ends of the bar.

Working within a raw space, we wanted to create a warm and comfortable environment by adding a lounge area which we styled using pastel touches.

For the kids, we created their own little area where they were able to do fun diy projects and take photos of each other using pastel polaroid cameras! There was a DIY Onesie station where adults were able to have some fun with the kids-hanging their dolled up onesies from a close line.

Poppy’s Catering provided a Farm to Table experience offering delicious salads, proteins and yummy quiches! And for that sweet treat, we created one of our signature style dessert bars filled with yummy treats For the backdrop we framed a piece of the same fabric we used for the table runner, tying it all in.

From The Bride…Soon after beginning our wedding preparations, it became clear that we wanted a summer wedding – an outdoor one ideally. The perfect venue was quickly found: s restaurant on the banks of the River Danube with a lovely garden and a breathtaking view of our hometown. The building itself was built back in 1827 and offers a unique combination of elegance and nostalgic flair.

As with every outdoor wedding, the weather was our biggest concern. Fortunately, it turned out even better than expected and we were able to enjoy a warm summer night with our guests, surrounded by the lights of Bratislava’s old city center.

As the venue and its view were already unique, we felt it did not need much decoration. To match the venue’s character we decided to keep it simple and elegant by using flowers in soft pastel tones with golden details.

To give the wedding a bit of a personal touch, and because I have always enjoyed DIY projects, I decided to make certain items myself. The wedding favors, the ring plate and also the menu were all my creations. A great source of inspiration for these was Pinterest and of course the many gorgeous weddings published on Style Me Pretty.

For my dress, I decided to go with the Slovak designer Zlatica Hujbertova. I wanted something simple and airy, something I would feel comfortable wearing throughout the day but also dancing in all night.

My advice for future brides would be this: Don’t panic if things don’t go as perfect as planned. Just roll with it and focus on the important: Having fun on this special day with your loved one and friends & family.

A Gatsby-Esque Wedding With a Knockout Dress

It all started with one of the sweetest proposals ever.  Well, actually, it started in an LSAT prep course, but when it came time to get down on bended knee, this groom surprised his bride with a meaningful moment she will NEVER forget.  Follow that up with a vintage-inspired love fest overflowing with gorgeous details (think Beacon Lane invites and a stunning Johanna Johnson gown from Gabriella New York) and it’s a happy, happy Wednesday.  See it all captured by Kelly Kollar in THE VAULT.

From the Bride… Randy and I met in law school. Technically, Randy noticed me first in our LSAT prep course (when I was in college) but he didn’t tell me that until the night of our first kiss. We became friends when interning together and started dating our last year of law school.

Randy proposed in our apartment after we finished decorating our Christmas tree. I was very close with my grandmother and she passed away right before Thanksgiving in November 2014. We had been at my parents’ house for the week helping with the arrangements and services. When we traveled back to Hoboken that Sunday, Randy suggested that, to cheer me up, we get our Christmas tree a little early (he knows how much I love a real tree in the house). All of our Christmas ornaments are from my grandma – who had been buying me collectible dollhouse and Barbie ornaments since I was born. She had also been buying Yankees and Giants ornaments for Randy since we started dating. We decorated the tree with each of her ornaments as a tribute to her. When we were done, I went to the bedroom to get something and when I came out, Randy was kneeling in front of the tree. The proposal was private, personal, and perfect.

We began to plan the wedding a month or so later. Because we wanted a summer or fall wedding, we thought we would have trouble finding a venue so put that first on our list. I had originally envisioned an outdoor wedding with a big tented reception complete with “twinkly lights.” However, I was nervous about the unpredictable weather and no contingency plan for rain. However, after one look at Hamilton Farm, we didn’t have to worry about that. Hamilton Farm not only has a beautiful mansion, but also a large addition with floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful tent swept under it for the reception. The mansion, lawns, patio, and tent provided every element we were looking for no matter the weather (as it turns out we had picture perfect weather on our wedding day). I knew that “getting ready” with my mom and bridesmaids would be almost as fun as the wedding itself and the mansion’s bedrooms and “drawing room” provided the perfect backdrop for a beautiful morning (and beautiful photos!) with my favorite girls.

The dress was probably my favorite part of wedding planning. I booked a weekend of appointments at various NYC bridal salons and my bridesmaids, mom, and mother in law all took turns coming to appointments. I have been to my fair share of weddings and knew I wanted a dress that was different from those I had seen, but also classic and timeless. At Gabriella New York, I found my three favorite dresses – each was a completely different style. We left for one more appointment and then called Gabriella to see if we could come back later that evening to make a final selection. I tried on all three dresses again and knew that the Johanna Johnson dress would be the one. I loved the classic, almost regal front of the dress contrasted with the low sweeping back. The Gabriella staff was amazing and let us hang in their beautiful loft for hours toasting to the final dress selection. I don’t think I took the dress off the whole time.

Once we had the venue and I picked my dress, the wedding began to take on an Art Deco or Gatsby-esque feel. Everything fell into place – invitations, flowers, bridesmaid dresses. I chose a muted color palette of blush pinks and subtle grays. The bridesmaids wore blush dresses from BHLDN and the groomsmen wore gray suits from Ralph Lauren, where Randy works.

Hamilton Farm provided the perfect backdrop for an elegant affair, but also allowed us to add our own personal touches to the day. For example, knowing that our 4-year-old ring bearer was a little shy and loved all things power wheels, we had him drive down the aisle in his new F150.  He definitely stole the show. My favorite moment of the wedding was probably watching Randy perform The Humpty Dance onstage with our band.

About two hours into the reception my best friend grabbed me from the dance floor and told me to “stop and look around.” I was so happy I did. Seeing the dance floor filled with all the people we love the most dancing, singing, and enjoying the wonderful party that we somehow pulled off was definitely a magical moment. I know time is precious at every wedding, but I would encourage all brides and grooms to take a quiet moment together to step back and take a good hard look at the culmination of all their hard work.

This Stunning Rancho Valencia Wedding is Seriously Dripping in Romance

Not every meet cute is a “love at first sight” kind of story.  In fact, sometimes it can be the exact opposite. And for these two cuties, what started as a dislike of each other in high school turned into a meant-to-be relationship that all culminated in one of the prettiest weddings ever.  Think beautiful blooms from Organic Elements, a breathtaking Rancho Valencia setting and one gorgeous moment after another captured brilliantly by heidi-o-photo.  Head to THE VAULT for so much more.

From the Bride… How did we meet, well, it wasn’t love at first sight! Ricky and I met in high school and had mutual friends. At some point in our lives we ended up just not liking each other very much. I was loud and crazy and he was a mellow surfer who thought I was a bit to much to handle. Over the years we kept running into each other to the point where one day we decided to give our friendship a try. From that moment on we never turned back. On our five year anniversary we tied the knot!

On my 21st first birthday Ricky took me wine tasting at South Coast Winery in Temecula, CA. While walking through the orange groves he stopped and said “I need to tie my shoe” I made a comment saying “ha, it looks like your going to propose.”  To my surprise he pulls a little black box from his sock and from that second on I nearly blacked out. I don’t know what he said, all I knew is that i was screaming “YES!”

How did we pick our venue? This is going to sound crazy, but the first thing I asked when I arrived to view Rancho Valencia was “Can I see your carpet in your ballroom”. I needed to get married somewhere that has nice carpet… strange, right? Once the carpet had my approval (because let me say their ballroom is gorgeous), I took the time to look at everything else the venue had to offer. There was just not one thing wrong with this place! We loved how beautiful and peaceful it was. We loved all the greenery. We loved the service. We just knew we had to have a special day there!

We wanted something timeless and clean. We both wanted to mix our styles together. I love the softness of ivory roses and greenery and he loved the idea of having masculine touches like wood. So we sat down with Susanne, our wedding planner, and she brought our ideas to life! We loved the soft flower details, romantic votive candles that she incorporated with wood accents. It was just perfect!

The most special part was praying and asking God to be the center of our marriage, because we know that we cant do it without Him. Our first act as a married couple was taking the first communion to remind us of what Jesus did for us.

My favorite vendors were Heidi & Kevin, my photographers, and Susanne my wedding planner. They both did an exceptional job. Our photos turned out amazing and they both captured REAL moments that I will cherish for a lifetime. Susanne really captured our vision and made it come to life. Without them my day wouldn’t have been so amazing!

Our most vivid memory was simply the love! Since it was an intimate family and closest friends wedding it was so nice to feel the genuine love and support from everyone. I loved my father daughter dance. My dad and I just kept hugging each other and crying the entire time.

A Hilltop Wedding Planned in Just 10 Weeks

Nikki and Aran are Beyoncé and Jay Z crazy in love. How do I know? After getting engaged on Christmas day, the two were bursting with so much love that they decided they wanted to be married as soon as possible. Ten weeks later, and in front of 65 of their closest friends and family, the duo became husband and wife at this romantic hilltop wedding. Experience all the love, thanks to Bayly & Moore, in The Vault!

From Wonder EventsNikki & Aran are two people crazy in love. They got engaged on Christmas Day and were SO bursting with wanting to get married that they pulled out all the stops and 10 weeks later were standing on top of a hill, on beautiful Waiheke Island celebrating their wedding with all of their loved ones. Just to add to dramatic effect there was even a wild little storm that happened perfectly on cue when all the guests were tucked up inside the marquee enjoying their meals.

We opted for a simple neutral colour palette of whites and greens down two long tables. Guest numbers were around 65 people so naturally this created an intimate setting. A light wood runner anchored the florals in a slightly more contemporary way that worked in well with the rustic Tuscan setting. Menus were printed on crisp white linen napkins which sat atop glass beaded chargers complemented by crystal glassware and rose gold cutlery. A large polystyrene N&A stood tall on the dancefloor with soft fabric draping and fairy lights a focal point of the ceiling.

The Prettiest Pink Brunch Wedding Ever

Give me a beautiful brunch complete with mimosas, and I’m a happy camper. But take all that brunchy goodness and add in these pretty pink blooms by Ever After Floral Design, and I’m officially over the moon. This intimate celebration filled with love, laughs, and steal-worthy design has me convinced an A.M. wedding is the way to go, and there’s more in The Vault by Gianny Campos.

From Ever After Floral Design… When Yenise and William came to me for their wedding and floral design, I was really excited to help this super sweet couple. Little did I know during our preliminary meetings with Yenise that her future hubby was a childhood friend. Making that connection made me realize how great they truly were for each other.

Simple floral ideas with luxurious textures was the main inspiration. The color scheme played off the surroundings of sand and sky at The Palms Hotel. Studded details made a huge impact – from the gold rim on the charger plates to the fabulous gold silverware.

When creating her bouquet, I knew I didn’t want to overwhelm her petite frame. I choose soft fluffy flowers in her soft, pink color scheme. Just an intimate guest list of 40 and a small bridal party made the day much more special. This event clearly defined the statement “Less is more.”

A Color Happy Home that Pantone Would Drool Over

There is usually a moment in every home tour where I fall in love. It can be as small as kitchen hardware or as big as an entire wallpapered nursery but with this bright home of one of the founders of House Of Jade Interiors, it just kept happening; the falling in love that is. Room after room is a mix of bright and muted, modern and eclectic and clearly is the work of a designer who knows her stuff. Tour the full space photographed by Kate Osborne Photography in the VAULT.

ENTRY & LIVING ROOM

We love the perfect balance achieved between modern and traditional, neutrals and colors & bold and soft in the entry. Erin incorporated sentimental items from travels & family heirlooms and mixed them with additional accessories. The entry isn’t huge so taking advantage of the inlet was a given.

Using the acrylic console allowed for an entry table without being too heavy for the space, while layering the art added some dimension. She also paired the console table with a unique and colorful tribal rug.

In the living room, Erin created a comfortable space for her family to gather and relax. It is family friendly without sacrificing style and design. Through mixing patterns and color against the neutrals it is far from feeling boring.

KITCHEN & DINING ROOM

In the dining room Erin created a more dramatic space by painting the walls blue, but still allowed it to be a functional space for her family We love blend between modern and traditional. Mixing an matching the dining table and chairs added a unique element and combined different styles and the lantern chandelier really anchors and becomes the focal point of the space.

Erin designed her kitchen with an airy and fresh feel, while incorporating some modern elements and unique touches. It has become the perfect gathering place for her family.

She incorporated brass hardware to go away from the standard knobs and pulls. It really gives a kitchen of any size an instant high-end feel. She also found three pendant lights that would add another finishing element to the space.

They are the perfect size for her island and don’t take away from the overall airy feel of the space. The marble subway tile adds just enough contrast without taking away from the airy feel of the kitchen and also adds a high-end feel.

MASTER BEDROOM

The Master Bedroom is a perfect balance of serene, comfortable and colorful. She used the large art piece as her inspiration and jumping off point and then went searching high and low for the perfect items for the space. We especially love the citrus colored lattice pillows paired with the bright coral bolster.

CHILDREN’S BEDROOM

In the girl’s bedroom the design is soft and feminine with a little accents of spunk thrown in. The wallpaper really is the main focus of the room and was the jumping off point. The colors and design of the wallpaper are perfect for a little girls room.We love the many shades of pink she used on the bedding and drapes. It adds dimension and style and is far from boring in her daughter’s room.

In the boy’s bedroom Erin created a little more bold design, while maintaining and youthful and softer feel for the baby. The quilt on the bed was made by a family member and Erin wanted to use it in the room as it has sentimental meaning.

She carried those colors throughout the room and created a fun space for her son to play and read in. There is a perfect balance between soft and bold in the space. The wallpaper helps create that balance. It is just subtle enough where it isn’t the focus of the room but still adds pattern and interest.

This Couple’s Laid-Back Approach Led to the Prettiest Wedding

This beautiful Bride is the exact opposite of a bridezilla. In fact, she might go down as the most laid-back Bride ever. With no theme or look in mind, she and her handsome Groom focused on having fun with family and friends. And the end result, captured by Christine Choi, is a gorgeous southern California wedding as lovely as the Bride and Groom. See it all in The Vault!

From The Bride…Our only goal for this wedding was to have fun and for all our guests to have fun! We realized you can do whatever you want for your wedding and there really is no “right” way. We picked what we liked even if it didn’t fit a theme or a look. When people asked what were colors or if we were having a slide show, we just looked at them and said we aren’t doing it. I tried to limit the number of DIY projects just to ensure my own sanity but in the end it was the perfect amount of personal touches that made our wedding so special.
