Trust Us, This is the Ultimate Destination Wedding in Greece

This is the story of when a handsome Spaniard met an Italian girl in Zurich, and the rest as they say is history. History written with their happy ending taking place in gorgeous Greece, and with Elias Kordelakos behind the lens capturing RockPaperScissorsEvents Greece magic, this is one wedding we’re forever favoriting. Love the look? See it all in The Vault!

From RockPaperScissorsEvents GreeceWhen a Spanish guy, met an Italian girl in Zurich and decided to get married in Greece!

This love story was sealed after Christian’s proposal to Melania in Porto (Portugal), on the top of “Torre dos clerigos” with the magnificent view of the whole town.

In their short visits in Athens they showed us how much they loved Greek food (meze), Greek company (Groom has so many friends from Greece) and of course the lovely location we suggested.

They wanted simple yet elegant details for their wedding and we promised them they would get them. Some details we loved: the canopy setup on the beach, bride’s personal dream that came true (She arrived on a horse, it’s name was Omerta!), the balloons guests set free after “i do”.

Everyone had so much fun and all the guests were really moved by the love of this couple.

Why a Fall Wedding in New England is EVERYTHING

What’s better than a local wedding filled with heart? How about a local New England wedding complete with First Mate Photo behind the lens. Now that dear readers is how you make the best even better. Add in a lovely gown from Ceremony Boston, makeup by Makeup Artistry by Liz and  Wilson Stevens Productions serenading the celebration and you’ve got the makings of a masterpiece. See it all in The Vault!

From The Bride…Scott and I met through mutual friends in Boston, and we had been together for nearly 5 years when we married. It was the day before my 30th birthday when Scott proposed in our first home together in Beacon Hill.

We planned for an October celebration, as there really is no better time of year to enjoy the beauty of the Berkshires. (Scott also convinced me that the Fall was perfect tux weather!)

The ceremony took place at Saint Ann’s in downtown Lenox, a small town nestled in the heart of the Berkshires. It holds a special place in my heart as my parents married in the same church nearly 35 years earlier.

Our reception was held at Cranwell’s Tudor-style mansion, the centerpiece of the 380 acre estate. Many of our guests stayed on the property in the guest rooms located throughout the resort, which made for a weekend celebration. Our after party was even held at a tavern located on the property!

In planning our wedding, we kept things true to our style, favoring details and personal touches that were inspired by the area’s natural beauty and history. My florist, Krissy Price of Pollen Floral Design helped me play out my ideas with her creativity and use of seasonal blooms (and fruit!). Our day was beautifully and authentically captured by our photographer, Rebecca Hansen of First Mate. In the end, it was perfect.

Pantone’s Color of the Year Sparkles in Ibiza

Close your eyes and pinch yourself. Now open them and guess what? This really is real. This stunning styled shoot, captured by Oliver Fly and created by a talented team that includes Majenia, Laetitia C., Nice Plume and more, is what destination dreams are made of. From the scenery to the chic gowns, these images can’t be beat – see them all in our Vault here and let the wanderlust commence!

From Oliver Fly Photography… Rose Quartz is a symbol of gentle love and beauty.

The fair and lovely gemstone, with its gentle pink essence is a stone of the heart, a crystal of unconditional love. It carries a soft feminine energy of compassion and peace, tenderness and healing, nourishment and comfort.

A fantastic landscape provided the perfect setting for this wanderlust captured in the Baleares on Ibiza Island’s most scenic cliff in front of the iconic fantasy Es vedra Rock where the magic happened.

The mystical Es Vedra dominated the scene and legends surround this uninhabited rock. This dreamy exclusive destination wedding shoot, inspired by a Mediterranean Goddess came from our dreams where each of the team members provided his own gemstone to this breathtaking coastal shoot. We opted for a soft color palette that won over our hearts, coming from Rose Quartz, Pantone’s color of the year, to different subtle shades of pinks, and antique gold.

This island has spectacular natural beauty and this natural display is a big yearly highlight. This shoot takes advantage of the season with the end of the winter as at that time of the year, in February all around the island, the almond trees are blooming with their pretty pinkish-white blossoms and sweet perfumed fragrance. Beautifully styled with an exquisite elegance and romance, Majenia Design talently provided an exceptional atmosphere and a delicious beauty to this photo shoot bringing our vision to life.

Nature at its best with floral arrangements composed by fresh almond blossoms, stock, carnations, pepper berries and lisianthus, assembled with some greenery with grey leaved cistus from the wild coast. Some pepper berries and gorgeous delicate almond blossoms were incorporated with perfection, harmony and love by Laetitia C. Fleur d’atelier, that she sublimated into the decor all along the story to bring a fabulously and magical touch of soft pink. Sublimating the settings, we worked with some beautiful textures and details into the Rose Quartz stones, pink marble, marvelous silk ribbons, table runner and tablescape.

To reflect the supreme beauty of a Goddess flattering silhouette, the bride was dressed by Cortana, a Spanish bridal designer, with an asymmetric bias cut silk sateen wedding dress with open back and gathered waist. Dominating the Mediterranean Sea, this dress embraced the divine curves of her body and was beautifully adorned with timeless accessories such as a stunning headband, headpieces and veil from Orchidée de Soie. The voluptuous femininity and the natural beauty of our adorable, elegant bride has been magnified by the flawless work of our hair and makeup artist Fanny & Co.

From the fabulous textured yellow gold wedding bands to unique fairmined jewelry with a stunning luminous solitaire engagement ring from Paulette à Bicyclette combined with a Mrs. Box ring box, there was so much illuminating beauty.

To highlight the destination wedding inspiration, the talented Nice Plume Calligraphie designed the complete custom stationery suite in the Spanish language with a modern and romantic handwritten typography including a unique illustration with the mystic rock of Es Vedra in the inside of the envelope. Some white organic style handmade nepalese papers and tracing papers in Pantone’s Rose Quartz was the perfect display to reflect the soft pink tones from the overall theme.

The cocktail settings were designed with a pure elegance of pink Champagne and raspberry also called « Champán con frambuesas » in Spanish, and was still complemented by our lovely pink quartz stones, pepper berries and almond blossoms.

Inspired from the beauty of nature and fine art, the enchanting wedding cake was delicately placed on a table draped with shade of pink silk chiffon. For this special occasion, we imagined delighting our wedding guests with a sumptuous cake styled straight from the imagination from Majenia Design and Laetitia C. Fleurs d’atelier with some fabulous details and decorated with gold-painted honestly plant and pepper berries. As we say in French: “La cerise sur la gâteau!”

Look Like “You Woke Up this Way” with Fresh Faced Makeup

I truly wish I woke up like this  but next best thing is faking it till I make it with this easy tutorial for a fresh faced makeup look . It pairs perfectly with an easy breezy ponytail, your favorite Spring Dress or worn in jeans and a packed weekend agenda. Get the how to from Facetime Beauty and You Look Lovely Photography  below. For more beauty tutorials, click here.

Start with a clean, moisturized face.

Use a pink toned concealer (using Eve Pearl “Magic Salmon Concealer” here) gently tap product under eyes to brighten.

With a navy blue shadow or liner, sweep on product close to the upper lash line. Leave the lower lash line naked. The navy (as opposed to black) gives a soft lift and brightens the whites of the eyes.

Draw a very subtle cat eye, by extending the line upwards and past the outer corner of eye. This gives an illusion that eyes are lifted.

Use a clarifier (the one we used here is the Clarifier by Three Custom Color in “Light”) in the inner “waterline” of the bottom lash line. This wakes up the eyes and makes you look like you had a full night sleep!

Create a monotone look, by using a bright berry toned lip/cheek stain (the one we used here is Three Custom Color Lip and Cheek Stain in “Ski Bunny”) on apples of the cheeks and lips.

Brush eyebrows upward which helps give the whole face a lift.

Add a bit of highlighter on cheek bones if desired.

Want an Outdoor Wedding with Killer Florals? This is How It’s Done.

First things first, a standing ovation to The Southern Table for knocking the floral design on this day Out. Of. The. Park. They chose to celebrate the fall season with blooms that felt distinctly autumn, and when paired with the work of Birds Of A Feather EventsBella Acento, and Apryl Ann Photography? Let’s just say it’s rustic chic done SO right. Fall brides, head to The Vault for more steal-worthy ideas – cheese + cider bar included.

From The Bride… You get married and you’re both over the moon with happiness. Then comes numerous questions about the big day. “Congratulations! You looked beautiful! Did everything go as planned?”, they say to me. All I can say is it was all that plus more. A true fairytale. The kind you see in romantic movies where everything goes perfectly. I truly felt like a princess the entire day. Usually, you would think nerves come with the big day, and normally they do. For everyone. I had such a great team putting our wedding together that I do not remember being nervous. Surrounded by my friends and family, it was all excitement.

I wanted a very open feel to the wedding. So naturally, being outside for the ceremony and reception was what I was going for. We were obsessed with our venue, The Grove, in Aubrey, TX. From the beginning, I told our wedding planner, Wendy Kay, that flowers and greenery were very important to me. Little touches of flowers and color were everywhere you looked. Pinks, magenta, and deep burgundy stood out all over The Grove. From floating flowers on the tables at the reception to elegant floral crowns for my bridesmaids. Even the tiny details on the grooms and groomsmen boutonnières were incredible. The Southern Table stayed within our budget yet completely surprised me and Scotty on how amazing it all looked!

Another thing that I really wanted to incorporate into the night specifically, was lighting. Especially since it was outside. We had lights installed in the trees, which made for a perfect backdrop to our bride/groom table but also for our guests to take memorable pictures. My favorite part of the day was our first look. I knew it would be good because Scotty is an emotional guy. It was such a sweet moment between both of us. Both crying and smiling while we saw each other for the first time. Nothing can beat that moment.

Looking back at the whole process, planning a wedding is no joke. It definitely IS fun and exciting but the first thing I would say you have to figure out as a couple is how the wedding day is going to run. At what point will a wedding planner step in or what relative is going to tell where your vendors need to be. My next piece of advice is to remember to have a moment of just you and your husband to look at the day. Step away and take it all in. It’s one day but goes incredibly fast! Lastly, your wedding day is a day to remember. So get a photographer you trust and who is amazing at their job! (Like mine….Apryl Ann Photography) you will want photos and video to show your kids, friends and family for years to come of the day your life started together, as one.

7 Reasons Olivia Culpo is Our Fashion Muse Right Now

It’s no surprise we love talking all things fashion. But when we get to sit down with the stunning Olivia Culpo (former Miss Universe and USA!) and talk fashion? We’re SO in our element. Thanks to Lord & Taylor celebrating their Spring 2016 launch of the Birdcage concept shop and the Free Spirit rose, we sat down with their special guest, Olivia, to find out everything from her weekend uniform to workout gear that gets her motivated. Read on for the full interview!

SMP: What is your weekend uniform?

Olivia Culpo: If I’m dressing up, it’s a pointed toe heel (like a Manolo or Louboutin), jeans, a tucked in black or white tank, belt and hair in a bun. That’s it!

SMP: Favorite jean brand?

Olivia Culpo: Straight leg, I love 3×1. Wide leg, Stella McCartney is THE best. Everybody should have a Stella McCartney wide leg pant.

SMP: Go-to nail polish color?

Olivia Culpo: I tend to keep it white and love OPI ‘Funny Bunny’!

SMP: Favorite fashion find under $100?

Olivia Culpo: Zara has so many cute dresses, shoes and bags under $100—anything from there really!

SMP: Floral fashion item of choice currently?

Olivia Culpo: I’m more of a simple color palette girl, so I like when shoes or bags have an embellishment of a flower on it—love that.

SMP: Fitness gear you’re loving?

Olivia Culpo: I’m so obsessed with Michi, they have the BEST workout gear. Also love Stella McCartney’s line of Adidas and Prismsport.

SMP: What’s your go-to workout, how do you stay so fit?

Olivia Culpo: Anything Barre I’m really into—I actually went this morning!.

SMP: One item you’re totally crushing on right now?

Olivia Culpo: Gianvito Rossi has the best shoes right now for spring. They’re a bit pricey but they’re sooo nice.

Love Olivia’s dress? Find it here at Lord & Taylor!

An Impossibly Chic San Francisco Wedding

This wedding, while classic to the core, is full of chic design moments for the modern bride. With a regal color palette of navy, gold and ivory, this graphic designer turned bride, Molly Pollet, carefully planned the big day, and brought on a vendor team, including Global GourmetGot LightTEAM Hair & Makeup and Plum Pretty Sugar to get the details just right. Josh Gruetzmacher captured and we’ve got all the inspo right at your fingertips.

From The Bride…Austin and I met through a mutual friend. I went to high school with him, and he ended up being Austin’s roommate in college. Although Austin and I knew of each other during college, we were not fully introduced until after we graduated. We both ended up on the same New Year’s trip and instantly hit if off. He made me laugh and conversation was easy and natural. We went on our first date the week after. Actually, it was my “half-birthday” and Austin took me out to celebrate (cute excuse, right?). We were inseparable from there on out. I have to say Austin’s humor and intelligence reeled me in from the start.

Our first date was January of 2011 and we got engaged a little over 3 years later. Austin surprised me and said he was taking me on a weekend getaway to Carmel. We live in San Francisco, so leaving the city definitely made me question what was going to happen. Right after a lovely lunch in downtown Carmel, he took me on a walk on the sand and proposed! While I had some suspicions, he completely surprised me. There was a bonfire, s’mores, champagne, flowers and a photographer. After some photos and lots of kisses, we drove down to Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur to spend the weekend celebrating, just the two of us. It was so romantic and relaxing. We both have busy work schedules in the city, so it was really nice to get away and celebrate what a special time it was.

When we first started planning, we both agreed that making this a special event was most important. Of course, all weddings are special, but we really wanted to focus in on some unexpected things that would make the day just as special for us as it would be for our guests. I am a graphic designer (and wanna-be florist, cook, interior and event designer…) so I really had my hand and eye on every single detail, in addition to designing all of the paper. I was overly specific and overly critical, but I think it all paid off! My mom helped me with all of the design decisions; we had the best time bringing this night to life. We carried fun little details throughout the design. For example, I hand-lettered a “P” monogram that we used on our save the dates, website and menus, stamped onto cocktail napkins and to-go coffee cups, and embroidered onto linen napkins for dinner. It was really special for us, and for our family and friends, to see the whole day come together.

Austin and I asked his older brother, Troy, to officiate our ceremony. Having a strong personal connection to the officiant, we think, made for an exceptionally beautiful and special ceremony both for us and for our guests. He was the perfect balance of humorous and heartfelt. I may be biased, but it was the best wedding ceremony I have ever been to!

Austin’s father is unfortunately no longer with us, so we wanted to do some things that day in honor of him. Austin has a beautiful gold Rolex that he now wears daily that his father left for him. We designed our jewelry around that. My engagement ring and both our wedding bands are set in gold. Austin also wore his father’s gold cuff link with his tuxedo. His dad loved suspenders and often had a lot of fun with patterned ones, so Austin got a pair made to wear with his tux to honor his dad.

Austin’s parents had a tradition where they bought a very large bottle of wine on their kid’s birth years for them to open for a special occasion. Since Austin can remember, he’s had a 5 liter bottle of 1987 Chateau d’Yquem. When we got engaged, we decided our wedding night was the perfect time to open it – to share such a special treat with all of our closest friends and family. After dinner, Austin gave a sweet toast and told the story of the wine, and we were able to give every guest a little taste. It was a wonderful way to honor his dad while also doing something extra special for our guests.

I think these are just a few things that helped make for a very special event. Most important: having delicious food, an open bar, great musical entertainment and great toasts, and keeping the event in one place so that the flow of the night is never interrupted.

Flood Mansion in San Francisco was a dream venue for us. We are both from Southern California, but loved the idea of having a very classic wedding in the city. It’s such a fun place for family and friends to come spend a long weekend! We are both traditional and wanted the wedding to reflect that. The wedding was black tie with classic décor. We had a lot of crisp whites with accents of gold and navy. The architecture and design of Flood Mansion fit so perfectly with the classic elegance we were going for. We also wanted the evening to feel like we invited our friends and family over to our home for a lovely dinner celebration. Being an old mansion in Pacific Heights, Flood Mansion was the perfect fit.

We held the intimate ceremony in the courtyard of the home. There were two existing urns on either side of the alter that Max overflowed with flowers. It was the perfect mix of organic and elegant. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen lined up on either side, in long silk navy dresses and classic black tuxedos. Ceremony turned into cocktail hour – delicious appetizers were passed, including crostinis with Mt. Tam & preserves, stuffed marinated mushrooms, and mini burger bites. Our signature cocktails were an Italian greyhound made with Hendricks gin, fresh grapefruit and rosemary and a Recoil made with bourbon, St. Germain, fresh lime juice and ginger beer. When it was time for dinner, guests walked through the large front doors of the home, hung with fresh wreaths, into the main reception hall that overlooked the entire San Francisco Bay. We had a mix of round and long tables, draped with beautiful white linen and set with gold rimmed plates and glassware and pearl flatware. I designed our menus and table numbers to match the rest of our paper – they were letterpressed in navy, our accent color. Max filled the center of tables with beautiful, organic and elegant florals – lots of whites, greens and gold-tones – in gold vessels. Vines were draped beautifully and naturally onto the tables.

We had my godfather give a blessing and my dad give a welcome toast before dinner. To start the meal, we enjoyed a broccoli shoot panzanella salad, followed with a braised beef short rib over warm wild mushroom farro. During dinner, my sister/maid of honor and Austin’s brothers/best men gave toasts. They were very heartfelt and had the whole room laughing. For dessert, Austin and I cut wedding cake – vanilla with lemon soak, strawberry jam and passion fruit curd. It was the best wedding cake I’ve ever had! We also had a dessert bar filled with our favorites: chocolate chip, oatmeal and peanut butter cookies, rich brownies, and lemon bars. We danced the night away to a live band. It was very important to us to find a venue that really fit our wedding design and visions for the day. Thinking about all of the details and the flow of the night really made a difference.

We danced to John Legend’s “All of Me.” It actually played on the radio on our way home from Big Sur after we got engaged. While we both had listened to it prior, it meant something different that time. We had a pianist play during our dinner reception and we had our lead singer in the band sing the words. It was a perfect song for that piano, vocal duo.

Once everyone was seated for dinner, my parent’s rang their glasses to cue the singer. Austin and I then walked down the long hall, filled with our family and friends, to the end of the room by the windows overlooking the San Francisco Bay. We danced there together for the first time as husband and wife, to a grand piano and live vocals, overlooking the Golden Gate. It was magical!

Surprise Your Bridesmaids With a Handmade Gift Box!

Hi, Brides! Michaela Noelle here and this Blogger Bride post is all about my bridesmaids. I’ve known for a while who I would ask to be in our wedding, and I also knew I wanted to ask them in a really fun, special way. If there’s something you should know about me, it’s that I love any excuse to celebrate. I love giving gifts. It’s my love language! So naturally, I wanted to put together a really beautiful box full of goodies for my girls.

I enlisted the help of Lauren of Box + Bow to help me put together my bridesmaid boxes. Lauren is so sweet and has such a refined eye for beautiful gift giving. I told her some of my ideas of what I wanted to include in my gift boxes, then she made it happen! I made the little gift tags on the outside of the box. They said “I couldn’t tie the knot without you. Will you be my Bridesmaid?!”

A few months ago I headed over to Ashley’s house, my BFF and business partner, to ask her if she’d be my Maid of Honor. I was so excited, and wanted to capture her reaction.

In the boxes, Lauren and I put in personalized champagne glasses with each girl’s name, cloth hair ties (they said “to have and to hold” which made my pun-loving heart leap!), a coconut rose exfoliating scrub, a nail polish in the color palette of the wedding, a delicious caramel chocolate treat, a spool of silk ribbon from Adorn Company with strands of all of the colors in our palette for the big day, and a succulent to top it all off. I was so thrilled with how it all turned out! Something I’m extra excited about is the Adorn Company ribbon. I knew from the start I would be using their ribbon to tie on my bouquet and bridesmaid bouquets, so including these in the box was a must! I wanted the girls to be able to visualize the color palette and knew this was the perfect way to do it.

Ideas to Make Your Own Bridesmaid Box

You can easily put something like this together yourself if you’re a DIY bride! Here’s a sampling of what I’d include, but the options are endless.

– Nail polish in your wedding colors
– A “will you be my bridesmaid?!” card (Here’s a cute one!)
– Yummy treat
– Lotion, scrub or bath salts so your maids can use it to relax
– A picture of the two of you with a fun memory
– Plant or small bunch of flowers
– Piece of jewelry for them to wear on your wedding day

I’m also having a lot of fun coming up with bridesmaid gift ideas that I’ll give my girls on the morning of our wedding. There are so many great ideas out there! Since my girls and I will be getting ready together at a beautiful hotel, I settled on sweet blush pink and lavender robes from Love Ophelia. Shhh! Don’t tell my maids ;) I can’t wait to get ready together AND they can certainly make use out of the robes for many more mornings to come. Now I’m dying to know – how did you ask your bridesmaids? What’s included on your gifting list? I’d love to hear in the comments!

xoxo, Michaela Noelle

You Will Adore the Modern Details in this Palm Springs Stunner

It’s sort of a given that a Palm Springs affair is going to be awesome, but this lovely modern affair from Photography By Paulina?  It’s seriously upping the ante on contemporary.  Think beautiful florals from My Little Flower Shop, a stunning Casa De Monte Vista setting and gorgeous mismatched bridesmaid frocks from Weddington Way.  Head to THE VAULT to get your pretty on.

From Photography by Paulina… Heather and Tommy started the day getting ready (and catching some rays by the pool!) in neighboring mid-century modern Palm Springs homes. Casa de Monte Vista was the perfect estate for their day–its intimate, elegant and romantic vibe was representative of its location in Palm Springs’ historic old Las Palmas neighborhood. The Spanish style architecture nestled among the Palm Trees made guests of the wedding feel right at home.

Heather was absolutely gorgeous in her Amy Kuschel gown–I loved its lace details! Everyone could see how much care and attention Heather and Tommy put into the details of their day. From their gorgeous invitations and welcome bags, Tommy’s succulent boutonniere, the custom copper bracelets heather gifted her bridesmaids, the hand lettered wooden signs cut by Tommy’s father and “LOVE” sign gifted by Heather’s bridesmaids, the farmhouse table decor and pretty florals, it’s clear that Heather and Tommy were surrounded by friends and family who loved them, and an incredible team of vendors who made their beautiful wedding day vision come to life. Heather and Tommy are two incredibly kind, loving, and easy-going people and it was such an honor to document their fun wedding day!

From The Bride…Prior to our wedding I envisioned clean colors and outdoors. We searched all over the DFW area and finally found the outdoor venue we were searching for- The Orchard. I wanted green grass, trees and peace and quiet. The color palette and style vision for the wedding was to be clean and comfortable.

I knew from the very start that I wanted light pink (blush) colors and for the bridesmaids to all be in different styles that their bodies felt comfortable in. I have seen too many friends cry over having to wear a dress they did not feel pretty in and I wanted to make sure all of my friends felt gorgeous! We found the perfect bridesmaids dresses with options for all body shapes in Bill Levkoff Petal Pink.

I did not have a wedding planner, coordinator, decorator or anything. I was on a tight budget and I did not have access money to spend there. Some of the DIY from the wedding were the greenery on the archway and the doors, the cross at the ceremony site, as well as a lot of the flowers on the tables. We purchased a lot of signs from Homegoods that helped decorate the day and other nicknacks. I purchased all of my hurricanes and vases from Michaels at Christmas time since gold was so in last year, it helped save a ton!!

My favorite memory of the entire day was that I never felt stressed or nervous-I was beyond excited and ready. Once I walked down the aisle with my father and finally saw Thomas, my husband, it was like all nerves went away and I was able to walk confidently and know that this is the best decision of my life.

My favorite crafted detail was the cross that hung at the ceremony site. We both are very religious and wanted to get married in a church, but we could not find a church that provided the space or the outdoor feel we were looking for. One of our family members hand crafted it for us and hung it so we could have a little piece of the church where we were.

My flowers were done by Central Market and it was the best experience! They were so easy to work with and I did not even spend $1,000 on flowers!

My bridal gown was my favorite thing in the world! It is a Maggie Sottero Phyllis gown and I was so comfortable all day! I do not think that many brides can say they were beyond comfortable in their dress and wore their heels all night! I was even able to boogie on the dance floor as much as my heart desired!

My favors were cute little wine bottles with straws and personalized labels and surprisingly everyone loved them! My hair and makeup could have been a disaster, but Jenn Karsner saved the day!

My best advice to a bride is to always do a trial! I did a hair and make up trial the day before my wedding (thinking it could save me money and I could have it done for the rehearsal) and it was a bad idea. I learned that my hair stylist was awful, it took three tries to not even get close to what I wanted. I then was connected to Jenn Karsner and she came in and saved the day by doing my hair and makeup as well as all of my bridesmaids. I think that all brides should do a trial at least a month before they get married so they have time to find someone new if needed! It was a situation that could have been very stressful, but thankfully I found the right resource to come save the day.

I also got really lucky and one of my wedding guests surprised me with a wedding video! It is not a fancy professional video, but I love it because she took the time at the wedding day to include all of my favorite moments and sent it to me on my honeymoon! It is better than any professional could do because she knew how to include all of my favorite people!

From The Bride…Anton and I have started dating 9 years ago and when we had a mini getaway to Bali a year ago, he proposed and I said yes!

Just like any other recently engaged girls, our eyes are suddenly fixated on color swatches, pretty flowers, white gowns and two of the most tapped phone apps are Instagram and Pinterest. That began my journey in wedding planning. Anton, my then-fiancè, got the chance once in a while to get periodical updates on what our wedding designs were going to be like. We were not a fan of big, ballroom style wedding so we thought a small and intimate soiree would be ideal.

In my line of works as a graphic designer, I designed and made a layout of wedding albums for a wedding photographers and looking at hundreds of indoor wedding, I wanted to have an open-air party with a panoramic background.

Living and working in Jakarta, we flew to Bali, a place where our family and friends would get the chance to spend the weekend and attending our weddings. Among lots of beautiful resorts and villas in this holiday Island, we fell in love with The Latitude, a private residence with a big infinity pool, drop-dead-gorgeous Indian ocean scenery, plenty of space for our 100 guests and layers of terraces for our Holy Matrimony. Everything about that place drew us in.

To me, choosing colours is not difficult. I am always a fan of white and gold ornaments and I picked that as our theme colour. I picked a design that was aesthetically beautiful but at the same time cost-savvy with matching menus, place cards, and gift tags were printed with the same theme colour. We want our wedding stationery to be timeless, and we thought that gold and white is never outdated.

I felt that everything had to be properly designed and coordinated and also equally important for us to find vendors who are not only experienced but also share the same vision of what we wanted. For sure, we wanted the chandeliers to match the golden ornaments on our wedding stationery. We had lots of candles, flowers on golden stands and flickering tea light candles on the table. My wedding gown was the prettiest creation I have seen. I’m always a fan of lace and pearls, and Soko Wiyanto designed what I really like, a simple mermaid style with an off-shoulder neckline with lots of beads, pearls and french lace.

Among other vendors that worked with us, my friendship with Bernardo from Bernardo Pictura, came as an immediate hiring. I felt that being friends with the photographers ease the wedding day tension and able to bring that natural smile and giggle. His laid back attitude was a potion for our parents and bridesmaids who felt that they may not look perfect on camera, and we love his style of photographs; modern, candid, and beautiful without too much trying.

As our wedding happened to take place during the rainy season, we installed a tent to be on a safe side. Tania from Flora Botanica Designs, hung beautiful draperies and chandeliers. Together with the 20 chandeliers, dining tables which are set up in a row, golden tiffany chairs, and a big wedding cake, at night it felt grand, like a fairytale, just like a typical grand dinner in a palace we see on movies and TVs. I adore a classic white theme wedding, the one that when you look the photos thirty years later, it would still look beautiful and never out-of-fashion, and when she incorporated a little touch of greens in the arrangement, it was a genius idea, truly beyond what I had imagined. It was romantic and breathtaking. Hiring her was the best decision ever.

The best moment during our wedding was our Holy Matrimony. I had been dreaming about this before, walking down the aisle with a perfect weather, sunny but breezy. The temperature was rather uncomfortable days before the wedding. It had been hot with unpredictable showers and I couldn’t imagine standing in the heat. I was lucky! It rained for almost an hour and when it stopped, it was pleasantly cool and breezy. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect weather than that. We walked down the aisle with a small church choir, surrounded by close family and friends and truly it was the moment we had been dreaming about.

Our reception was a blast. Our MC was so entertaining without being too intrusive and we hired a DJ at the end of the night. Well of course, with Jack Daniels, Vodka, and wines from dinner, we had an absolute dance party. It was a night to remember over and over again, and if we have the chance, we’d spend our anniversary with the same people reliving the day.

A Wedding at Home? Sign Us Up!

When your family owns a home on Edisto Island, choosing to host an at-home wedding is sort of a no-brainer.  And so is decorating your Big Day with colorful details, like crazy gorgeous blooms from Sara York Grimshaw Designs and bridesmaid dresses that POP from Amsale in the prettiest hue ever (it’s Ocean, loves).  RLE Charleston planned the whole shebang perfectly and Kate Haus captured every moment in beautiful images.  See them all in THE VAULT.

From RLE Charleston… The bride’s family from Charleston, had recently purchased their second home at Edisto Island and immediately determined it would be the perfect location for Chesney and Ryan’s wedding.

I visited the property many times with the family as they transformed the spaces and chose the perfect wedding vignettes. For the Ceremony they chose the perfect spot under the Chesney Oak, a Grand Oak with big beautiful branches that enveloped them as they were wed in a spiritual wedding ceremony officiated by close family friend Brian McGreevey.

Guests were then encouraged to join for Cocktails on the front of the house (which in the South is actually the back) to enjoy the Sunset views along Bailey’s Creek. Delicious Southern Style Hors D’oeuvres by Salthouse Catering were passed on family Silver Trays (Tomato Pie Tartlets, Mini Crab Cakes, Deviled Farm Eggs with Caviar, & Mini Smoked Duck Rubens).

For the reception, Guests promenaded around the house to the Sailcloth reception tent placed alongside a dual reflecting pond – perfect for bouncing light as the evening light crept in. Guests danced the night away to the Emerald Empire Band and enjoyed delicious Red Velvet and Lemon cake, Mini Pecan Pies, Chocolate Cups with Peanut Butter Mousse, Mini Lemon Bars, Mini Coconut Cream Tarts by the talented Ashley Bakery pastry chef, Hayden Campbell.

Bringing in some of the Old World vintage touches, we purchased a guest book for Guests to sign: A Vintage 1952 Encyclopedia Britannica World Atlas Maps.

Floral Designer, Sara York Grimshaw Designs created the perfect continuous free-spirit floral tablescapes of loose and organic florals with interesting greenery surrounded by hobnail votives and vases. Utilizing ‘single type’ arrangements of: Hyacinth, astilbe, chamomile, ranunculus, sweet peas, delphinium, veronica and seasonal blooms for that perfect ‘picked from the garden’ feel.

Trixie, Chesney’s Pug, was a special wedding attendant, adorned with her own floral collar and stayed until the last guest departed!

Guests Showered the Bride & Groom as they exited into a Classic Rolls Royce with dried Lavender – a favorite childhood ‘smell’ memory of Chesney’s.

Designer Tips for a Stunning Color + Pattern Combo

Remember this insanely rad playroom? Well the designer behind that beauty, Kendall Simmons, has another pattern happy space to share and this one is downright gorgeous and all for the adults. It’s a dining room that maximizes color and pattern and one that’s just begging for a fabulous dinner party (or ten). Plus, Kendall is sharing a few insider tips she’s picked up along the way to really make your space shine. See even more captured by Catherine Truman in the VAULT.

Natasha and Jeff love bold color and pattern. Since we had worked together before on other rooms in their home, I knew that I could push the design envelope further with them than with most clients!

The existing dining room had good bones to begin with, including wainscoting, applied fretwork detailing on the ceiling, and a beautiful crystal and gold chandelier that we decided to keep and work around. For everything else, we started with a clean slate!

My starting point for the design was the wallpaper. I reviewed many different bold colors and patterns with them before landing on this classic Schumacher Queen of Spain print. I then layered in the bold green velvet on the settee, and the black and white custom drapery with wide greek key trim.

– TIP –

If you are starting with a blank space and don’t know how to get started, commit to one bold item (a wallpaper or piece of artwork for example) and build the rest of your selections around it. This gives you a rallying point and keeps you from veering off track!

Art was one of the most critical components of this room design. I prioritized original art, since this dining room is one of the most visible spaces in the entire house. The large Erin McIntosh painting over the buffet, and the pair of small 8×8 Ed Nash paintings flanking the window are all superstars. But I supplemented the original pieces with a simple black and white cactus photograph from Minted.com and stylized gold geometric mirrors from Target.

– TIP –

Original artwork doesn’t have to break the bank. Search your area for local artists who are just beginning their careers. You can often find their work at small local galleries, or art sales benefiting schools or charities.

Natasha and Jeff love to entertain friends and family, and they also have two young daughters, so the room needed to be as durable as possible without sacrificing style. The rug is a pieced cowhide design, which cleans easily. The green velvet settee is covered with an applied stain guard protectant, and the white host and hostess chairs are slipcovered in indoor/outdoor fabric to guard against stains.

– TIP –

If you have existing upholstery, rugs or drapery in your home that are in high-traffic areas or areas prone to stains (example: food or wine spills in a dining room) consider having them fiber-sealed by a local company. Most of these cleaning companies will come to your home for free to provide an estimate. Often times the cost of fiber-sealing is much more affordable than having to replace the damaged piece later.

The bar cart is a signature element. This brass bamboo cart adds sculpture to the room, and I loved loading it down with beautiful and functional bar accessories and a generous selection of liquors and mixers.

– TIP –

When stocking your bar, be sure to purchase liquors that come in beautiful, colorful packaging (not just the ones that you drink regularly). This adds visual interest and contrast to your bar, and who knows, you may discover something new that you’ve never tried before! A perfect example of this is Bombay Sapphire gin because of it’s vibrant blue color.

The vintage style ginger jars were the final element that I added to the room. I chose to accessorize with only a few, bold items rather than many small ones in order to make a more impactful statement.

– TIP –

Don’t be afraid to load down your dining table with oversized accessories. Most people only use their dining rooms a few times a year, and when those times come it’s quick and easy to relocate the large accessories to another room in the house so that you can set the table for dinner.
