New Orleans Meets Arizona In This Bright Al Fresco Affair

Cacti can be ultra romantic and these pics by Rachel Solomon are all the proof you need. This outdoor celebration combined the flair of New Orleans with the textures and colors of the Southwest – and it all worked out perfectly, thanks to Louise Thomas of Events Made Special. Black Sheep Filmworks captured the action live and their film and all the pics are in our Vault right this way!

From the Bride… Steven and I started dating almost five years to the day before our wedding. He was a pre-med student with big travel and career aspirations, who saw himself getting married at age 32. I was a romantic dreamer who saw myself married young like my parents and their parents before them. Despite our different plans and personalities – or rather because of them – we began to create a beautiful, vibrant, and joyful life together. Within a month, we were in love, and we never looked back. It was this wonderful coming together of cultures and personalities that inspired our wedding day. We wanted to combine all of our favorite things in an unexpected, yet refreshing way. Growing up in Tucson, I have always marveled at the beauty of the desert. I love the way the fuchsia of bougainvillea, the crisp white of saguaro blooms, and the soft green of prickly pear cacti come together to reveal a delicate beauty. So for our wedding day, we chose to use these colors to create a happy, festive atmosphere that complemented the natural beauty of our surroundings. We also knew we wanted to incorporate some New Orleans flare – as the city is a part of Steven’s heritage and has been our home for the last three years. So we chose to name our tables after some of our favorite streets in the French Quarter, and asked the JJ’s to lead us and our guests from dinner to the ballroom in a classic New Orleans “second line.” As the night progressed we chose to exaggerate the exotic nature of the desert with dramatic gold linens, Moroccan lanterns, and a hookah lounge. Finally, staying true to our New Orleans vibe we served late night snacks to keep the party going until the early morning. We owe endless thanks to our friends and families, especially our parents. We also want to thank Louise Thomas for catching our vision, without whom our wedding day would not have been half as beautiful. We feel so blessed to have experienced such a perfect day.

From Events Made SpecialThe vibe for the magnificent wedding of Kylli and Steven beautifully played off the elegance of the Ritz-Carlton with a very romantic-fairytale feel. In it’s sophistication, guests witnessed elegant details with touches of the Southwest or maybe even Santorini, with a Moorish or Mediterranean feel. Beautiful reds, pinks, bougainvillea, and eucalyptus were threaded throughout the event which was staged in 4 parts. The ceremony boldly presented a flourish of pinks and fuchsia, embellishing the natural wood framework behind the bride and groom. The wooden structure also framed the pair of saguaro cactus that grow on the mountainside behind this romantic grassy site. The aisle was accented with rose petals of pink and fuchsia along with huge stone pots filled with a lavish amount of florals and greenery. During the transition from the ceremony to cocktail hour, Latin Fusion entertainment filled the air as guests were offered prickly pear margaritas along with a top shelf selection of cocktails and Ritz-Carlton appetizers. A vintage wooden table layered in ivory lace held elevations of cobalt blue Mexican shot glasses filled with mini-succulents tagged with handmade escort cards. As the night progressed the dinner reception moved towards Southern Spain with an almost Mediterranean/Moorish vibe with a look that subtly exaggerated the exotic desert feel. The long wooden runs of vineyard tables held an assortment of tablescapes that included black iron candelabras, gold baroque candlesticks, mercury glass, cobalt blue chargers, and colored glassware. Kylli wanted the reception to feel like a royal banquet out of a storybook. Indeed it did…with bistro lights overhead and a full moon in the distance. Timeless, textured, celebratory and enchanting. Fireworks were the surprise factor that evolved as the groom was toasting his appreciation to the family.

See How a Party Stylist Translates Her Cool Girl Style into her L.A. Home

They say that birds of a feather flock together and this home tour is proving that point. Event stylists behind LA Party Stylists and besties decided to give both their Los Angeles homes a revamp with the help of Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs and the results are pure perfection. First up we have Marisa who had a vision of modern bohemian while maintaining the classic bones of her home. See how that gorgeous, eclectic mix plays out with even more shot by Amy Bartlam in the VAULT.

Marisa had a clear vision and a tight budget to achieve the modern bohemian look she adored and make it mesh with the traditional bones of the home.

We reused much of her existing furniture from her previous home but added a few dramatic new changes to make the home feel new, fresh, and quite different than its previous beige and ornate version.

low danish style lounge chair balances the more formal sofa and the stacks of art books and Marisa’s amazing art collection make the living room feel like a Parisian salon. Ethnic textiles throughout the home give it a layered thoughtful feel.

The dining room boast an oversized round brass mirror, a console from West Elm that was raised to buffet height with taller hairpin legs, and a West Elm dining table and chairs.

The shibori Milton & King wallpaper steals the show. Serena and Lily navy blue color block window panels tie into the kitchen cabinets’ navy blue and the relaxed sophistication of the white linen slipcover on the existing sofa.

The kitchen cabinets were painted the same Hale Navy color and adorned with brass knobs and handles from Schoolhouse Electric.

We dressed up the breakfast dining nook with new natural colored wishbone chairs, custom pads made of Kantha quilts for the tulip base chairs, and a rad Park Studio LA chandelier.

Changes to the stairs included ripping the carpets off, painting them and the railings Hale Navy, and installing a kilim runner.

A Tented Ceremony That Brought the Outdoors IN

In the bride’s words, “My mom has instilled in me a love for nature and gardening, so naturally, I embraced a romantic garden vibe.” That point of inspiration turned into a tented wedding ceremony that brought the outdoors in with branches, greenery, and lush florals throughout. Believe us, your Friday is about to get so much prettier thanks to images from the lens of Michelle Lange.

From the Bride… After the excitement of the engagement settled, I turned to Pinterest and other online blogs to gain inspiration. I soon found that I was getting both overwhelmed and lost in a world of wedding expectations that were excessive and simply unrealistic. Once I realized that I wanted to base the theme around inspirations from my loved ones, my vision came to life. My mom has instilled in me a love for nature and gardening, so naturally, I embraced a romantic garden vibe.

The florals were a beautiful mix of ivory and blush shades with hints of loose flowing greenery throughout. Anthology Studio created gorgeous arrangements that climbed up intricate pieces of driftwood. The stationary mimicked these florals, many of which my mom and I designed together. My dad and I created the slate table numbers one afternoon using slate from their yard. We continued this garden theme with the unique place card display my mom created using vintage drawers from my grandmother’s sewing machine that she filled with an ivory flower bed for the cards.

Both my mom and Josh’s mom are cancer survivors, so we decided to make a generous donation to the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer chapter in lieu of traditional favors. During our ceremony, we incorporated a special Polish tradition in honor of my grandfather and his heritage. I’ll always remember the smile on his face as he passed us the heirloom cup of wine and dish of Polish bread.

I wore an ivory high-neck lace dress, one that my mom and grandmother instantly agreed fit the romantic feel. I allowed each of my bridesmaids pick a blush dress of their choice from BHLDN, and they looked absolutely stunning. Josh and his groomsmen all love and work in athletics, so Josh bought them matching Nikes to pair with their gray suits. We each wanted our closest friends to be psyched about what they were wearing, and the consensus was that we delivered!

My favorite moment was a brief one that only Josh and I shared, but it was one that I’ll treasure forever. We asked the band to play “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons for our first dance. Though untraditional, the song has been a sort of anthem to the long distance portion of our relationship. Josh told me in the middle of our dance that he listened to the song during his morning commute, thankful everyday that I was willing to “wait” for him. The fact that you caught this touching moment on camera was wonderful!

Now that the thank you notes are sent and the gifts are put away, I can look back and realize I’m proud that each design element paid some sort of special tribute to a loved one of ours. I truly didn’t see everything come together until I saw it all documented in the collection of gorgeous photographs you captured. I recently scanned through my old wedding Pinterest boards, and I’m thankful we went in a unique direction to create a romantic vision of our own that honored the ones who mean the most.

5 Stylish Outfit Ideas to Steal for Casual Friday

As a work-from-home gal, I have to admit, every day is casual Friday for me. In fact, I like to practice ‘fancy Fridays’ to spice it up a bit. Totally not trying to rub it in office-bound peeps, sorry. But, I think in today’s world, the typical office job doesn’t necessarily mean suit pant/blouse anymore. So, maybe you can pull off some of these looks outside of Friday, too. Either way, these five outfit ideas are a surefire way to stay comfy and look like a million bucks doing it.

More Fashion & Beauty Inspiration right this way!

This Wedding is the Definition of “Timeless”

If you’re looking to design a wedding that stands the test of time, take cues from this couple who held their big day at San Francisco’s City Hall. Reminiscent of some of their favorite architecture in Paris, they played off the venue’s dramatic backdrop pulling in shades of gold, ivory and dusty gray blues. Of course, the day wouldn’t have come together without a crew of talent, and Charmed Events Group, Amy Burke Designs, Got Light and La Tavola were a few who made it happen. Caroline Tran photographed and the images are a dream day realized.

City Hall

Warren and Debra both knew they wanted a wedding that was classic and timeless, yet modern with hints of Old World European elegance. One of their favorite places in the world is Paris and they chose San Francisco City Hall as their venue for its reminiscent characteristics of the Palais de l’Institut de France right in front of the Pont des Arts where they added their love lock to the once extant bridge of padlocks. The breathtaking San Francisco landmark was also the perfect backdrop for them with its high ceilings, intricate details and touches of gold. They wanted to play off of what already existed at the venue and pulled soft colors of ivory, gold and dusty gray blues from the venue to compliment what already existed. Touches of Old World European and personal sentiments were sprinkled throughout the details of our wedding. The romantic, ethereal feel of the day was brought out by the custom calligraphy from Written Word Calligraphy and gorgeous, lush arrangements of garden roses, peonies, and Debra’s favorite flower, anemones, by Amy Burke Designs.

Candles and gold trays adorned the reception to add to the dreamy mood of the elegant rotunda. A mirrored sign read, “Hold my hand and we will reach the moon”, which was what Warren had written to Debra in a birthday card when they first started dating. What was most special was the memorial table, which honored Debra’s late father. It was lit with candles in his loving memory and displayed her favorite photos of them together. Their most unforgettable moments from the wedding included their first look, exchanging personal vows in front of loved ones, the heartfelt yet hilarious toasts and the relishing feeling of finally being husband and wife during their first dance. It was simply a magical day to remember.

Her wedding dress was made by none other than Vera Wang. When searching for the perfect dress, Debra found it a little hard translating her personal style into bridal. As soon as she saw Petra in her Fall-Winter 2015 Campaign, she knew she had to try her on. The Petra embodied everything Debra wanted; it was edgy yet clean and modern with touches of subtle romanticism in the peony lace skirt. The entire dress had an insouciant feel to it. To complete the look, she paired her dress with a pair of gorgeous python pumps by Tom Ford. Debra said, “Our perfectly special day would not have been possible without our team of amazing vendors. We are so grateful for this passionate and talented group of people who exceeded our expectations and then some! BethAnn from Studio Cake created the most delicious guava and coconut cake, our guests could not stop raving about it!

To capture the beauty and intimacy of every moment, we chose the amazing Caroline Tran for her soft and airy aesthetic. She has an incredible eye and a true gift of making people feel so comfortable around her in front of the camera! And last, but certainly not least, our wedding day was absolutely faultless thanks to wedding designer and planner turned friend, Frances Liu from Charmed Events Group. It was such a privilege to work with her. Her attention to detail and chic flair helped bring our dream wedding to life.”

Think an ultra-elegant setting with hardwood dance floors, full-service bars and stunning contemporary decor. PRETTY PAPER GOODS

You’ll most definitely want every.single.one of your our nearest and dearest on hand to celebrate your BIG moment, so be sure to invite them to the Party of the Century with some pretty paper goods that scream Nautical Chic.  I’m talking a gorgeous suite that is most definitely seaside inspired, so your guests know they’ll need to grab those boat shoes and get ready to dance the night away, bubbly included.

A FUN-FILLED REHEARSAL DINNER

Rehearsal dinners are ALWAYS a good time, but a rehearsal dinner pre-nautical wedding? Sooo awesome. Think a lobster or clam bake with the cutest details, all held seaside at a crazy cool venue like the Fish Bar, Pier 81’s IT seafood lounge and rooftop.  Starting your events off right has never been more fun… or convenient.

[dotted]

CREATIVE PLACE CARDS

You can’t have a nautical wedding without some sweet rope detailing, so throwing some nods to your boating skills on your place cards is, well… totally awesome.  Not to mention that it’s a fab way to add a little touch of your theme to the proceedings without being too over the top. We honestly adore that.

[dotted]

TOTALLY AWESOME ROPE VASES

And speaking of fabulous ways to add some knot-inspired details to your Big Day… DIYing some special touches, like these amazing rope vases, is a definite MUST.  You’ll be adding a touch of personalization your guests will absolutely adore, plus you can sit back and admire your hard work the day of. It’s what we call a win-win, loves.

[dotted]

STUNNING SEERSUCKER

You know we love a stylish groom and it doesn’t get much better than a handsome Mister rockin’ some seersucker.  Whether it’s simply a suit jacket or you prefer an all-out ensemble, adding this gorgeous fabric to your Big Day lineup is a definite MUST… and throwing in that dapper bow tie doesn’t hurt, either.

[dotted]

A CRAZY COOL COMPASS

You can’t have an awesome nautical wedding without a little ode to compasses. That’s basically a fact. So why not add those sweet Save the Dates to your lineup?  They’re totally unique + seriously stunning AND set the mood the minute your guests receive them. We’re obsessed.

[dotted]

THE PERFECT GIFT FOR GUESTS

Start your guests off with the coolest compass ever and send them away at the end of the night with a little pack of helpful items for the day AFTER.  Think everything from ibuprofen to a pack of tissues to those much needed breath mints. Trust us, this is a detail your nearest and dearest will LOVE.

[dotted]

ANCHORS AWAY

Saying “I do” in a nautical wedding just wouldn’t be right without a little anchor love.  Add this must-have detailing with sweet DIY pillows, table linens or even place cards or table numbers.  Just don’t throw your Big Day bash without one.

[dotted]

YOUR ONE TRUE LOVE

Sure, you need all of the amazing details to pull off a nautical wedding, but the one thing you can’t do without? Your one true love.  Because when all is said and done, you’ll be happily sitting on one of The Duchess’ fabulous decks, staring at the breathtaking skyline that is the world’s greatest city (NYC, of course) and sipping champagne while your guests party the night away in high style. Wedding Paper 101: Styles for Every Couple

We swoon over pretty paper goods on the daily, but when it comes to choosing the perfect invites for our very own Big Days? We need help. So today we’re turning to our friends at Wedding Paper Divas for a breakdown of the who, what and where of invitation suites – from selecting the right style to picking the perfect embellishments. Scroll below for a look.

CHOOSING YOUR STYLE

Setting the right tone for your Big Day begins and ends with your invitation suite, so making sure your style is reflected in every.last.piece of gorgeous paper? Sooo important.  Which means that whether you’re saying “I do” on a rooftop overlooking the city or barefoot in your favorite garden, your invitations should most definitely reflect your Big Day choices.  Here’s a helpful rundown to see just where you fit:

VINTAGE

This style is for all of you ladies planning on rockin’ your grandmother’s lace gown or partying the night away on New Year’s Eve in Great Gatsby fashion.  In other words? You love things that are a tad bit old fashioned.. and your wedding will most definitely reflect that.

MODERN

Streamlined and contemporary, you like things to be clean and sophisticated with just a touch of luxurious flare.  This style is for the daring duos tying the knot in a loft or in your favorite art museum.

WHIMSICAL

Your groom plans to don his favorite pair of suspenders and YOU plan on incorporating sweet little Parisian details into every.last.moment of your Big Day, because that is where you and your love met. One look at your wedding day and it’s obvious that whimsy and romance rule the roost, and your invites should be just as awesome.

CLASSIC & FORMAL

Ever since you first saw Cinderella, you knew a classic wedding was for you.  Think a breathtaking ballgown, a traditional ceremony in your childhood chapel and a ballroom reception with champagne flowing all night long.  You’ll most definitely want to set the tone for this Black Tie affair, starting with the Save the Date, so your guests know this is a night to get their fancy on.

RUSTIC

Calling all of you lovers of lace gowns, barn dancin’ and mason jars: this style is for you. Whether that’s an all-out rustic affair in the mountains of Montana or a sweet rustic meets romantic affair in a vineyard in Southern Cal, this is definitely the style you’ll want to announce the celebrations with.

From the Bride… Our wedding was a dream that started with the proposal. Or, as we like to call it, the proPottsal! Michael was working in North Carolina at the time, and I was in graduate school in California. He spent months planning it with my family, and gave me an incredibly romantic surprise proposal. The first place he ever said “I love you” was on a mountain top in California at the end of a long hike together.

And on July 4, 2015, he had my family take me on that same hike… But this time he was waiting for me at the top to propose! I was completely surprised and almost fell over when I saw him. It was incredible. Just after he proposed, Michael and I started looking at venues, and we immediately fell in love with Empire Mine. We wanted a wedding that was intimate and simple but elegant with a vintage influence. With its natural beauty, historic stone buildings, and immaculate gardens, the Mine was the perfect venue for us.

Some of the best decisions we made were in our vendors. Our photographer traveled across the country for the wedding and was flexible enough to come a day early to walk the venue with us and get ready for the wedding day. Which was super helpful! That way, he was already familiar with the setting and knew exactly where he wanted us for each photo on the wedding day. Also, we worked with a caterer, decorator, and DJ who had done weddings at our venue before and knew it well. They all required a lot of setup, and they were already very comfortable with the Mine and could help guide us in how best to use the space.

Finally, we spent a lot of time thinking about details that would give our wedding a personal touch, and some of my favorite pieces were the hand painted wooden signs, the floral heart-shaped wreath displayed as guests entered, and all of the milk glass vases and antique champagne glasses that my mom spent a year painstakingly collecting. Thank you for everything, Mama! Now, we are happily and excitedly reliving it all through the amazing lens of Graham Terhune Photography. They caught so many beautiful, fleeting moments that we will treasure forever! It was perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Amanda Seyfried Proves a Simple Engagement Ring Can Be Chic

When Hollywood “It” girl Amanda Seyfried stepped out in NYC this week she was rocking a little something extra on THAT left-hand finger. But rather than follow suit with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Amanda opted for a minimalist gold band that proved simple and chic can easily go hand-in-hand. We’re so on board with her nontraditional approach and can only wait to see what the wedding day will hold. More Amanda-inspired ring looks below!

The Best Ever Breakfast Dessert Recipe: Funfetti Waffles

I’m pretty sure that anything preceded by the word ‘funfetti’ is bound to be a crowd-pleaser. But these waffles dreamt up by A Sweet Savory (that debuted in today’s ‘cereal’ party) are next level. Breakfast and sweets lovers unite, this is one recipe you’ll want to pin for the archives! See more from the full party captured by Emma Feil Photography.

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 8 oz white chocolate
  • 1 cup Frosted Flakes,
  • 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Preheat your waffle iron to desired temperature.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar until combined.
  3. In a smaller bowl, whisk vanilla, eggs, buttermilk and melted butter together. Add the wet ingredients into the dry and whisk just until thoroughly combined.
  4. Once your waffle iron is preheated, spray with nonstick cooking spray in needed.
  5. Ladle the batter into the waffle iron, and cook until waffles are golden and crispy on outside.
  6. Take your waffle out of the iron and cut your waffle into fours (or wherever your waffle would naturally separate).
  7. Finish cooking until all your batter is used up.
  8. Melt your white chocolate in a double broiler or in a microwave (in a small glass bowl) until chocolate is completely melted.
  9. Dip each waffle edge into the white chocolate and set on a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the edges with Frosted Flakes (I like to make the cereal a little smaller by lightly crushing in my hands before sprinkling) and rainbow sprinkles.

Sparkles Meet Rustic Romance for this Outdoor Wedding

Just because you’re saying “I do” in Colorado doesn’t mean you have to have an uber casual celebration; we’re all for combining opposite styles to create something truly spectacular. And that’s just what happened here, when elegance and sparkle meet rustic romance. Carrie King captured it all and her pics are giving us Pinterest fever all over again – see more in our Vault right this way!

From Carrie KingAlthough Jenny and Steven reside in Las Vegas, they decided to get married in Larkspur, Colorado at the gorgeous Spruce Mountain Ranch. The day was styled by the talented Sarah Viera Events and every detail was perfectly catered to Steven and Jennie as a couple. The rustic Colorado feel of Spruce Mountain Ranch provided the perfect contrast for their shimmering blush tablecloths (who doesn’t like sparkles at a wedding?), and their modern styled lounge area! The day began with some lingering clouds, but just before the ceremony the skies opened up and provided some beautiful Colorado sunlight while they said their vows to one another. Both agree that their favorite part of the day was their first kiss as man and wife! (So cute.) Steven and Jennie are both foodies, and their mirrored calligraphy menu board was a unique touch to display their carefully chosen menu! Southern Fall Wedding Inspiration in Charleston

Bring on the cable knit sweaters and hot cider, because this inspiration from Heather Waraksa has got us ready for fall. From its seasonal fare to fantastic frocks courtesy of Gabriella New York, this is one styled shoot that’s blooming with Gathering Events berries, Ceci New York invites, and of course a bit of romance. See every thoughtful detail from Bellafare in The Vault!

From BellafareInspired by the European Elegance that RiverOaks Charleston exudes, this creative collaboration was an exercise in understated beauty and restraint. The design encompassed organic materials and rustic yet refined elements that highlighted the lush Lowcountry landscape. The soft light served as an ethereal backdrop for the rich tones of gray and various textures used throughout the tablescape. Though the table design was a defining thread throughout the aesthetic, the romance between the couple set the tone for the intimate and food-focused event.

The Genius Party Theme that will Have You Craving Lucky Charms

Cereal is practically its own food group and thus crafting an entire party around our favorite breakfast treat makes complete and total sense. It’s genius really. Leslie Bruce decided the perfect way to celebrate a new school year and a great excuse to throw a little shindig was with this Lucky Charms infused party complete with cereal topped treats. See what’s on the menu with even more shot by Emma Feil here.

To celebrate the beginning of the school year, I decided to host a “Cereal Soiree” for some of Tallulah’s friend and their mamas. And since all of my favorite cereals practically double as candy, I concluded that a cereal- inspired dessert buffet was definitely in order. With the help of my friend and the most phenomenal baker ever, Lauren Lowstan of A Sweet Savory, I came up with a festive, candy-coated treat menu.

On the Menu:

Rice Krispy Treat Cereal Cake
Funfetti Dipped Belgian Waffles with Frosted Flakes
Lucky Charm Cannolis
Fruity Pebbles, Cap’n Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Pop Tarts

Because nothing is better than Lucky Charm marshmallows, I made sure to offer an apothecary jar overflowing with the sugary treats, as well as Funfetti Donut Cap’n Crunch (who knew that was a thing!?). These were dangerously easy for the little ones to get their hands on!

For décor, I wanted to play off the pastels of the Lucky Charms. I reworked a “Celebrate” banner that I picked up during one of my Paper Source hauls to say “Cereal!” Beautiful paper fans and confetti balloons are pretty much standard fare for any party, and these ones from Meri Meri don’t disappoint. While the balloons are one-time deal, the fans are really great paper stock, so they can definitely be stored and used again for our next soiree.

I wanted to add some fun, bright décor to the dessert bar for an unexpected pop, so I used these two great prints. The floral watercolor print is from the Oh Joy for Target collection, and the Bob Dylan quote is one of my all-time favorite Etsy finds. I don’t know about you, but when I’m considering a second (or third!) helping of desserts, I’m definitely want to be reminded of this: “Don’t Think Twice…It’s Alright.”

Beauty Underneath the Brooklyn Bridge

Just when I thought I’d seen it all, Bashful Captures sends along this styled shoot which totally redefines any and all preconceived notions of Brooklyn, because this borough? Well, it’s totally chic. A gallery complete with Violet and Verde blooms and undeniable beauty, we’ve got every bit of it waiting for you to fall in love with via The Vault!

From Bashful CapturesWhen I first dreamt of this styled inspiration shoot, I wanted to create a unique, modern rustic look in Brooklyn, NY. I first started at Prospect Park, but as soon as we got there, it started pouring. Unfortunately, once the rain slowed down, there were puddles everywhere and we weren’t able to shoot outside the park. However, rain didn’t stop our shoot, but instead we took photos under the Peristyle which created this beautiful grecian look that went perfectly with this gorgeous BHLDN dress. Then once we got to Dumbo, BK, the sun started peeking out. This beautiful light peeking through the buildings created a very romantic feel for the shoot as well. Dumbo is one of the most popular areas that I often go for weddings or engagements sessions in NYC. I wanted to create a fun, but unique look that inspires brides to think out of the box.

From the Bride…. It all started when Jin surprised me with a proposal during our vacation in Maui on November 2014. He proposed on his birthday! He planned everything so well that I had no idea at all that it was going to happen. The proposal deserves a story own its own!

When it comes to wedding venue, we know that we wanted to have it in a winery. Jin loves wine and I have been collecting wine corks from all the wine that he drank for the past few years. Napa and Sonoma have so many beautiful wineries but location (distance) is very important to us as we have very busy work schedules. We decided to look for local wineries. We visited two wineries and fell in love with Clos LaChance Winery (the second winery we visited). When we walked into the winery and out to the ceremony area, we knew that this is it – gorgeous views! Our venue hunting journey has ended. Another thing that we wanted is to have an outdoor wedding for both the ceremony and reception and Clos LaChance was perfect for that. Finding a wedding date is a challenge. We wanted a Summer wedding and decided on Summer 2016, again due to our busy schedules and family overseas it will be impossible for us to have our wedding in Summer 2015. After a few dates were turned down by m y parents, we finally agreed on the first Saturday in July 2016. I know that a date is just a number, but it is important to me as I like even numbers (I know I am weird). When we agreed on the first Saturday in July 2016, I did not know yet at that time if it falls on an even or odd number. I checked the calendar after I got off the phone with my parents and to my relief it falls on the 2nd – yay! It also falls on the 4th of July weekend which will be perfect for our out-of-town guests. On top of it, it also happens to fall on our anniversary (6th year anniversary in 2016). This was all totally unplanned. I was thrilled!

I like pretty little things – I think all girls do. So when it comes to wedding design and decorations, I get very detail-oriented. I want to make sure I have every little things that I like and incorporate it well to the wedding. For example, a personalized wedding logo, wooden signs for table numbers, dessert table, escort card display, welcome sign, Instagram sign and many others. The theme that I was going for was garden party with a touch of romance and elegance. I love flowers and greeneries and that is important for me to have as well at the wedding. As for the color, since it is an outdoor summer wedding, I opted to go with blush and champagne. The wedding invitation is very important to me as that is the first thing that guests will see about the wedding (other than the Save the Date card) and it sets the tone for the wedding. I worked very closely with a vendor based in Indonesia on the color, design, and the little details in it. We sealed the invitations with a rich gold wax in our personalized logo. We could not be happier with how the invitations turned out. This vendor also designed our wedding favor (a notebook) and the wedding program in a shape of a fan (perfect for the hot summer weather in California). I realized that I could not do the wedding planning and design myself if I want everything to turn out perfectly.

After hiring a few vendors on my own, I decided to look for a wedding planner and designer. I have been following Charmed Events Group for a while on Instagram and I really love their design and style. I decided to hire them. Long story short, Frances, the creative director of Charmed Events Group really made magic happens for weddings. I was blown away by the stunning work of art that Frances and her team created for our wedding. Frances totally understands me and everything turned out just like how I envisioned it. The wedding decoration was so beautifully done, full of blush, lush, blooms and golds. Our sweeatheart table and that original escort card display that Frances designed were amazing! I have seen the sweetheart table photos taken by the talented Vero Suh being re-posted a few times on Instagram. I love it!

For a personal touch, we used my wine corks collection as the place card holders at the wedding. The personalized logo was also used on various things such as our wedding invitations, favor, photobooth, cocktail napkins and even on the wooden decoration trays. We also did something different for our first dance. We decided to do the first dance privately instead of in front of our guests. This is something that we decided at the last minute on the day itself. We took dance lessons and had a choreographed first dance to “show off” to our guests. However, the wedding day itself was so hectic and we thought that the first dance would be a good time for us to have some alone time (other than the first look). We did the private first dance after the traditional tea ceremony. I was also super nervous about dancing in front of people, so it was a win-win situation for me.

It is also important for us to remember our culture and respect our parents in a traditional way. Jin is Korean and I am Indonesian-Chinese. We did a Chinese tea ceremony (in Cheongsam) for my family and a Korean ceremony (in Hanbok) for Jin’s family before the actual wedding ceremony. We also did parents’ appreciation towards the end of the wedding ceremony to honor our parents. Unfortunately, Jin’s mother could not be there with us, but it was very important to us to involve her in the wedding. We had a bouquet of flower with a note “In honor of Mama Yoo” especially for Jin’s mother. We also bowed and paid our respect to her during the Korean Ceremony. This is a very touching moment for both Jin and I as we were in that exact same room just a few months ago with her for our food tasting. It was truly a day to remember. I have always heard people saying that their wedding day was the best day of their lives and I have always been so curious to know what that feeling is like. Now I know. 7/2/2016 was the best day of our lives! Special thanks to the incredible team of vendors who have made our wedding a dream come true.

We loved the cool reflection of the sky in the water, creating a wintery mood for the shoot. Weathered wood benches were draped with soft grey cashmere wraps, to keep ‘guests’ warm for the winter ceremony. Sarah Winward created ice candles for a modern approach to the ceremony design, and snowy blooms lined the aisle.
