From the Bride… Jordan and I met while we were both in college and next door neighbors. We dated for nearly five years before he proposed while we were on vacation in Mexico. Although we live in Tennessee, we immediately knew we wanted to do a destination wedding in Alys Beach, Florida. The beautiful architecture of the pristine white houses made for the dreamiest backdrop for our wedding. We’ve been vacationing in or near Alys Beach for several years, and I always thought it would be the most amazing place to get married – and it was!

We knew we wanted to keep our wedding relatively small in order to have a more intimate feel to our ceremony and reception. Our vision was to have a natural, organic, and romantic feel to our wedding. For me, the florals were the most important part of the decor. I was so lucky to find Fort Walton Beach’s best floral and event designers, Myrtie Blue. Co-owner Brian Watson took my request of “loose romantic florals” and created something more beautiful than I could have ever dreamed. My bouquet was out of this world, and weighed more than you can imagine.

In addition to picking out florals and decor, one of my other favorite parts of planning was working with my talented calligrapher, Katie Hyatt of Signora e Mare. She makes the most beautiful handmade paper, and I knew I had to have her create our invitation suite. Katie created an organic “B” design that we incorporated not only on the invitations, but also the seating chart, cocktail napkins, and in a couple decor items. For example, we had a moss covered “B” that hung behind the main bar, and a few pillows that were arranged on lounge furniture at the reception also displayed our unique “B” design. This personal touch really made our day feel so special, and we now have the pillows and moss “B” displayed in our house now.

There are so many great memories from our wedding day, but if I had to pick my favorite, I think it would be our first look. We had been hanging out with our bridesmaids, groomsmen, and family separately all morning, and there were a lot of nerves to be calmed getting ready. Once I saw Jordan, everything else went away and I could focus about the day being about us.

I will never forget the love and support we felt from our friends and family on that day. When I started to walk down the aisle with my father, I could not hold back the tears once I saw all of our loved ones who traveled near and far to celebrate our love. Although I thought I wouldn’t cry walking down the aisle, that feeling of love was so overwhelming, that of course I cried the whole way. To top it off, my stepfather officiated our ceremony, which was an experience I will never forget.

We know that our wedding day would not have happened without our talented wedding planner, Shelby Peaden. I’m also so grateful to our photographer, Brandon Chesbro, and our cinematographer, Alan LeBlanc of Pure 7 Studios for perfectly capturing our wedding. Without a doubt, November 5, 2016 was the best day!

From PJ Dunn of Going Lovely Events… Earlier this year, I got together with Carlie Statsky and we bonded over our love of all things boho and how excited we are that bright color palettes are making a comeback in wedding design. We had been dying to work together and decided putting together a boho-luxe editorial shoot would be the perfect opportunity to collaborate!

We partnered with Minted on this shoot and used their Gilded Shore invitation as the inspiration behind the color story – pairing shades of lavender with metallics and mustard.

The shoot took place at Gardener Ranch, which is tucked away in beautiful Carmel Valley. It had rained the day before our shoot, so the grounds were extra lush and a perfect setting.

The bride wore two gowns from Daughters of Simone paired with vintage inspired Jewelry from Trumpet and Horn. She looked lovely as can be walking through the venue grounds and styled in the vintage lounge.

Michelle Lywood outdid herself and adorned the ceremony tree with the most stunning flowers that looked like they were growing out of the bottom of the tree.

We set the table with La Tavola’s bayliss rain linen and velvet runners and kept the place settings modern with gold glass chargers, gray ceramic plates, and gold flatware. Adding the mustard yellow taper candles were a last minute decision and I’m so glad we did! It really made the yellow in the centerpiece pop and provided a lovely contrast against the lavender hues.

Using the minted wedding invitation texture as inspiration, Amanda from Just Bakecause crafted up such a unique cake! Can you say cake goals!?

I feel so lucky to be able to collaborate with such talented vendors who put in their time, product, and creative gifts to make this beautiful editorial shoot happen. From the location to all the boho luxe details, the day was a total dream and I hope inspires engaged couples planning their wedding this season!

Gluten Free Fresh Fig Galette Recipe

To be honest, we had never really eaten figs… But they are always so lovely to photograph and remind us of fall so we grabbed some at our local market and decided to modify a galette recipe and give them an actual try. Needless to say, we were obsessed and I baked with them for 3 days trying various recipes and this one was by far our favorite! This GF dough is so good as well and tastes like a cookie!

Instructions

INGREDIENTS

1 Cup Gluten Free Rice Flour (we use Betty Crocker brand)
4 1/2 Tablespoons Almond Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)
2 Tablespoons Sugar, Divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Stick Cold Butter (Kerrygold Butter)
3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
3 Tablespoons Ice Water
Approx 1 lb Fresh Black Mission Figs (or Brown Turkey, but we found the Black Mission were sweeter) stemmed and quartered lengthwise
2 Teaspoons Lemon Juice

DIRECTIONS

1. Spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Place flour, almond flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt in a food processor; pulse to combine. Scatter butter into processor; pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. Drizzle in oil; pulse to combine. Add ice water; pulse just until combined. Turn mixture out onto a sheet of plastic wrap; pat into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate 1 hour.

2. Preheat oven to 400°.

3. Place figs in a large bowl. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar and lemon juice; toss gently to combine.

4. Unwrap dough. Roll dough on plastic wrap into a 12-inch circle. Arrange dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon figs onto dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold edges of dough over filling to partially cover. Bake at 400° for 35 minutes or until fruit juices bubble and crust is browned. Remove from oven; sprinkle with almonds. Cut into 10 wedges.

*If dough is crumbly when you remove it from the fridge, roll it tightly into a ball and begin working it into a circle on your parchment paper. Just have patience, it will stay together and fold over

VANILLA BEAN HONEY GLAZE

1 Cup Powered Sugar
2 Tablespoons Hot Water
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Vanilla Bean, sliced lengthwise and seeds removed (discard pod after)

Whisk together the powdered sugar and honey. Slowly stir in hot water until a thick glaze is created. Add in vanilla bean and stir until mixed in. Drizzle over Galette, serve warm, & enjoy!

This is the kind of story that makes me eager to log on to SMP every day. It’s not about the details, no, it’s a pure dose of LOVE. Because love is love, and nothing (not even a country) can deny that. Seth and Jacky are brave, strong and admirable for their journey to say I Do. Alisa Ferris‘ imagery paired with their story below is bound to brighten your day.

Seth and Jacky are not able to enjoy the simple luxuries that many couples take for granted. They can’t hold hands or kiss in public. Cozy Instagram pics? Posted with caution. The couple is from Indonesia where same-sex marriage is not recognized, and even worse, neither is homosexuality.

The two met online when Seth was just 19 and Jacky was 16; they maintained a friendship for 4 years before venturing into a romantic relationship. Fast forward eleven years, and the couple have pretty much done it all; here’s the scoop on these savvy business owners, parents and gay rights advocates.

“In Indonesia, homosexuality is not widely accepted, and gay marriage is non-existent,” stated Jacky. “After more than ten years together, we grew weary of the subterfuge and felt that we deserved to have what so many others already have.”

That mindset sent the two packing for NYC where gay marriage is legal. Their elopement in NYC was followed by a quick Honeymoon in D.C. (and a Beyoncé concert, of course!). The result was a 3-day photo session around Washington D.C. and New York City that is an emoji heart feast for the eyes.

“We have Style Me Pretty to thank for our photographer, Alisa Ferris. When we read about how she saved another couple from wedding disaster (READ: “Their Photographer Didn’t Show Up! Here’s What Happened Next), we knew we had to have her,” said Seth.

Now that their nuptials are legal, the pair are becoming recognized as gay rights advocates in their home country. “Not only did we want to get married for ourselves, but also, to set an example for our son, Jasper,” commented Seth. “We wanted to show him to stand up for what you believe in.”

“What we didn’t realize was that so many others would be inspired by our actions. Since we’ve become more open about our relationship,” Jacky continued, “I’ve received messages from many young kids telling me they were on the brink of suicide until they heard our story; now they have hope of living a life of love and happiness.”

Having overcome such challenges has made this power couple even stronger. Seth, the mastermind behind the couple’s advertising agency, and Jacky, a prominent fashion designer, whose clothes have been spotted on the likes of Neyo and Lance Bass, now look forward to the future with a relaxed heart.

From Alisa Ferris… When I heard Seth + Jacky’s story, I knew instantly I wanted to document the story of their love. Sadly, even in the U.S. wedding industry, you will encounter vendors who don’t support same-sex marriage. In my role as a photographer of same-sex marriages, I’m not merely an artist, I also consider myself an activist.

I grew up in Tennessee, went to college in California (Fight on!), and moved to Texas for work. That means my best girlfriends are literally all over the map. But, in my opinion, that’s a huge perk!

So when the invitations came to be in their bridal parties – whether it was Napa or Nashville – I was obviously going to say yes!

I call 2016 my “Year of Weddings.” I successfully supported my friends in six destination weddings (and three destination bachelorette parties) without over-drafting my bank account. It wasn’t easy. But here’s how I did it…

Planned Ahead with my Annual Bonus
All my friends got engaged well ahead of their wedding dates. So I had a pretty good idea going into 2016 I’d need extra travel funds more than the YSL handbag I’d been eyeing all year.

I put every penny I could from my annual bonus into a separate savings account for “wedding-related expenses.” I also prepaid for the resort in Napa and bought two bridesmaid dresses. It felt great to check those larger ticket items off the list early!

Auto-Deposited into an Earmarked Savings Account
After my bonus, I changed the auto deposit settings for my paychecks. I directed 5% of each paycheck into that wedding expense bank account. This decision was crucial for me, since I tend to spend everything I see in my “disposable” account on dinners and drinks with friends. Because I didn’t have to personally transfer funds each month, I didn’t even miss the extra cocktails! It’s amazing how fast 5% adds up…

Made a Strategic Outfit List
Next to food, I spend most of my money online shopping. It’s crazy how many things I think I’ll NEED next season! (Can I get an amen?) I sat down and made an actual list of the outfits I needed for each wedding—rehearsal dinner dress, bridal luncheon dress, bridesmaid dress, Sunday brunch outfit, etc. First, I shopped my own closet to see what I could wear again for future events. Next, I made a list on my phone of the things I still needed to buy (bright colored club dress for bachelorette party 1, black bikini for bachelorette party 2, etc.). Then, I added in the specific bridesmaid dresses.

As I shopped, I checked each item on the list. This protected me from my usual habit of buying 10 “options” for the same event. If I loved it, I kept it. If I didn’t, I returned it for something else I loved. Bonus: I saved money AND streamlined my closet!

Learned the Flight Game
FYI, flights are always cheaper on Tuesdays and Wednesdays – which is a convenient brain break in the middle of the work week. Booking off-peak times, like Thursday or early Friday, can also seriously reduce fares.

I took advantage of “working remotely” whenever possible. For one wedding in Washington, D.C., I saved $200 by flying in early Friday morning. I found the cutest local coffee shop in the city, and it ended up inspiring one of my best campaigns of the year! I didn’t have to take a vacation day AND had some time to relax before the rehearsal dinner.

Made It a Girls Trip
Sharing a room with girlfriends was hands down the best way to cut costs. I loved the extra quality time with friends I rarely get to see. Plus, when you’re looking at resort prices for the weekend, paying one-half or one-fourth of the room makes a huge difference.

Prioritized my “Plus One”
Sometimes the resort prices are worth it. Most weddings, I deferred my “plus one” to cut costs and room with my friends. Let’s be honest, when you’re in the wedding, you barely have time for your date anyway. But I prioritized bringing a guest for one super-romantic beach wedding. I knew everyone there would be in couples, so it was worth the investment to bring my date along.

Minimized Meal Splurges
The good news is when you’re part of the wedding, you’re usually invited to the rehearsal dinner, a bridal lunch, and the reception. That’s at least three meals already taken care of! Food and drinks at destination locales can easily blow your budget. By minimizing my “fine dining” to one brunch or dinner, I still got to experience amazing restaurants without breaking the bank. PS – Cocktails by the pool add up! Check yourself before ordering that third round.

Had to say “no”
Missing a wedding is the absolute WORST. I still regret having to say “no” to a special friend’s wedding in Florida last fall. But the only way I could make the weddings I was in work, was to cut out traveling to weddings where I wasn’t included in the bridal party. It seems like a brutal standard when you read it, but it was honestly the only way I could draw a line for my budget.

I wish I had all the money in the world to spend going to weddings. They’re some of my happiest memories – where love, friendship, and a beautiful location all come together for a perfect weekend. Each one is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

But the reality is, I ended up spending about 25% of my salary on weddings in 2016. Although it required a serious strategy, stricter budgets, and a few sacrifices, it was totally worth the investment.

And I know when it’s time for me to walk down the aisle, every one of those girls – near and far – will be right by my side.

From the Bride… Chris and I met 11 years ago. After having dated for so long, our wedding was not just a special event for us, but also for our families that had long awaited for this day to happen. My husband Chris remembers while he was waiting for me to walk down the isle how many people were emotional.

This particular day was also special because it was the only day that was available and would work during the summer for the two venues we wanted, and it so happened to be Chris’s parents’ anniversary day as well. I think it was almost fate because in a way we’re following in their footsteps. From the way Chris and I met which was the same way his parents met- at a party where Chris was playing the guitar and singing. And now by pure chance, we get married on the same date, 40+ years later. What’s more, the wedding ring we got for Chris looks almost identical to his dad’s original wedding ring, which he had lost years ago and Chris had never seen.

The weather and temperature couldn’t have been any more perfect for our beautiful outdoor wedding. We both love nature and being in the outdoors, so having the wedding outside was important to us (thank goodness Mother Nature decided to cooperate). That’s why we chose the Montage Resort up in the mountains of Park City, it provided a gorgeous backdrop for our ceremony. Then being outside in the courtyard of the luxurious Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City for the reception was magical. Going along with natural and outdoor inspiration, I wanted to make sure that our floral arrangements had an organic and natural feel. Our florist did an amazing job of doing that, from the loosely shaped/arranged bouquets, the naturally draping ceremony arch, the greenery running down the center of the tables at the reception, to the Italian Ruscus sprigs adorning each table setting.

A few years ago Chris and I visited Italy and fell in love with it. I mean who wouldn’t, right? Well, while I started planning for the wedding and looking through a lot of Pinterest boards I found myself pinning a lot of Italian inspired weddings. There’s just something very romantic and elegant, yet simple and organic about Italian inspired weddings. So we agreed to incorporate some Italian inspirations to our wedding, such as: Italian themed invitation suite, Rosemary salt party favors with “Grazie” tags (which means “Thank you” in Italian), lots of Italian Ruscus used in floral arrangements, and the hotel courtyard where we had the reception felt like we were somewhere in Rome.

We wanted our guests to have a memorable experience, so we did some of the traditional things but also mixed in some things that were a little more unique and fun. For example, I chose to have both my mom and dad walk me down the isle, I felt like it was more special that way. Instead of doing wedding vows, I wanted to do something that was romantic and symbolic of our new journey as husband and wife, so I surprised Chris with a dove release right after we said our “I dos”. Doves symbolize love, peace, happiness, and prosperity. For entertainment, we had a String Quintet playing all the way through the First Dance, after which we had fun singing karaoke and dancing to dance video games. Chris is in a band called All Hope Contained where he is the lead singer. His fellow band member, Robbie, was the Best Man, and my sister-in-law Heidi was the Maid of Honor.

I’m so lucky to have several talented family members that helped me with the DIY aspects of our wedding. One of my very talented sister-in-laws did all the calligraphy and made all the signs. Another sister-in-law did my hair and makeup. My mother-in-law added sleeves to my beautiful Pronovias dress. My husband Chris is an artist and painted all the insides of the envelopes with an Italian landscape. My parents helped me make the party favors. I made the menus. It was so fun having family help.

Our wedding was a dream come true. I loved everything about it. The only thing I would’ve done differently and the advice I would give a bride is to hire a wedding planner, it possible. Even though I would’ve still probably been very involved in all the details and decision-making (because that’s my personality), it would’ve been nice to have somebody that could help me keep track of everything and coordinate with the vendors as well as keep me more at ease the day of the wedding knowing that someone is in charge of overseeing everything.

Talking with your friends about whether you need a prenup is awkward. It’s like asking, “How much money do you make?” (which is never socially appropriate). But the word “prenup” does seem to be popping up more often in pop culture. Maybe you’ve even wondered if it applies to you.

To protect your good manners, we talked to Dallas-based family law attorney Hayley B. Collins to get a quick lesson on what a prenup is – and whether you might need one.

A quick disclaimer here: Laws regarding prenups vary state-to-state, so it’s important to consult with an attorney in the state you live in if you are contemplating a prenup.

What’s a prenup?
Prenup is short for prenuptial agreement. It’s an agreement between future spouses to make decisions in advance about property during the marriage and in the event of a divorce.

For example, in some states, without a prenup, the income one spouse receives during the marriage is considered marital property, which belongs to both spouses. In a prenup, future spouses can agree that a spouse’s income will remain that spouse’s separate property during the marriage. That means the income will not be marital property.

A prenup can also define future spouses’ roles during the marriage. For example, future spouses can include in their prenup how they’ll divide household responsibilities.

Do you need one?

Is this your first marriage?
Prenups are far less common for younger couples and couples entering their first marriages. Hopefully, you’re planning to grow your wealth and estate together forever! Hopefully, you’re also planning to tackle challenges together as a couple during your marriage. If that’s is the case, you probably don’t need a prenup.

Older couples and couples entering their second or third marriages might consider a prenup, especially when one or both spouses have already accumulated substantial property – or if they anticipate receiving substantial income during the marriage. Couples with children from previous marriages might also think about a prenup to protect  their potential inheritance.

Have you accumulated substantial wealth?
Although laws vary by state, “It’s a common misconception that if you have a lot of family money or if you expect a large inheritance, then you need a prenup. A prenup may be helpful to further define property rights between spouses and in the event of a divorce, but property owned before marriage and inheritance will not be awarded to your spouse in the event of a divorce in Texas. This type of property is protected under the law even without a prenup,” Hayley said.

A common reason for a prenup is to redefine income received during the marriage. A prenup can decide in advance if any income will remain separate, so a Court can’t divide it in the event of a divorce.

For example, a doctor with substantial income is getting married for the third time. She may want to clarify that the money she earns during the marriage will remain her separate property, so, if they divorce, she will leave the marriage with the money she earned during the marriage.

Are you starting a business?
Hayley said if a client tells her, “I own a startup and I want to make it big and keep this money as ‘my’ money,” she’ll say, “Let’s do a prenup.”

If you own your own business and have no interest in sharing the profits with your partner in a divorce, then you might want to consider a prenup.

In deciding whether to have a prenup as a business owner, it IS wise to also consider the time, energy, and support your partner is investing in your business as your spouse, even if his name isn’t on the door.

Do you have plenty of time before the wedding?
Hayley’s biggest advice for clients: “If you’re going to have a prenup, make sure you’re working with an attorney so that it will be valid and enforceable.”

A prenup must be in writing – and signed by both parties. And you can’t enforce it if the other person can prove they didn’t sign it voluntarily or consciously. So don’t give your fiancé the prenup after sharing two pitchers of margaritas!

You want to do it as far in advance of your wedding day as possible to avoid potential arguments. If you wait too long, you are leaving the door open for a spouse to argue that, because of timing, they felt pressured to sign it. Hayley won’t even touch a prenup within two weeks of the wedding.

Additionally, future spouses should each have their own attorney review the prenup – they should not share an attorney.

Before you sign a prenup, both future spouses must receive a full financial disclosure of their partner’s property and financial obligations.

For instance: One future spouse is a retired basketball player who now works as sportscaster ESPN making $1 million a year, and the other spouse is a retired social media model who makes less than $50k a year. If the retired model does not know how much money her future spouse has in the bank, she may agree in the prenup that, in the event of divorce, she receives less money than she would have agreed to if she had a true and full disclosure of his assets.

If you’re considering a prenup in your marriage, meet with a family law attorney ASAP. They’ll talk you through the options in your state and help you decide if it’s something you really want to pursue. Also, talk with your fiancé. Honest conversations around finances are always important as you prepare for marriage.

If your fiancé brings up a prenup agreement, be cool! Calmly ask, “Why do you believe we need one?” His explanation would be important – and give you both the opportunity to address any future concerns.

From the Bride… It was not entirely about getting married, being Bride and Groom, or wanting to be together forever. We had already committed ourselves to each other in all the ways that mattered to the two of us. We met in college when we were 18 years old — before we could understand how deep our paths were intertwined. When we graduated, we moved across the big pond to Japan and proceeded over the next five years to travel all over the world together. We lived an adventurous existence where it was just the two of us. It was when we were going to lose our last grandfather that we realized we needed to do something for our families.

None of this would have been possible without Martina and the Italyweddings team, including the ever-talented Marisa and Ben. From the very first email, we knew we were in the best hands. We wanted to change the traditional paradigm for weddings, and our ideas were embraced with enthusiasm. With five catered events over six days, Martina’s planning acumen was tested. She delivered everything with calm, grace, and perfection. Martina was one of our closest friends as we planned the extravagant Italian wedding, and it will always be to her that we are eternally grateful.

From Italyweddings… Malory and AJ have always been close to their grandparents. When Malory’s grandfather was dying after years of battling cancer, they decided that the last worthwhile gift they could give him and their grandmothers would be to get engaged. They made it back to the US a week before he passed and for his last birthday. They got to show him the ring they chose together and let him know that they would be alright. To honor AJ’s grandfather, who was his hero as a kid, AJ married with his grandfather’s ring — a gorgeous, engraved signet ring.

For the love of their family, Malory and AJ got married. But they had lived abroad for so long that marrying Stateside didn’t fit. They had the choice between a 300 guest wedding in the US or 60 of their most treasured in Italy. It wasn’t really a difficult decision. For their wedding, Malory and AJ wanted a week full of family, friends, delicious food, fine drink, and unlimited excuses to live la dolce vita like you can only do in Italy. They worked with the our team to create a week of events culminating in a wedding, to celebrate love with family.

The week started with a welcome dinner on Monday, hosted by Malory’s parents at Borgo Stomennano. On Tuesday, the wedding party went to Siena to join the revelry of the Palio di Siena horse race. Wednesday was dedicated to pool and pizza, with the most talented pizzaiolo making fresh pizzas all evening. On Thursday, they toasted Bacchus with a wine tasting and spent the night feasting and dancing under the full moon for the masquerade-themed rehearsal dinner. With a week to celebrate with family and friends, all the stress of the wedding day melted away. In the shade of a beautiful olive grove below a grand Tuscan villa, the moment can only be remembered as perfect.

The ceremony was officiated by Malory and AJ’s brothers, one older and one younger, the flanks to their relationship. The Best Man read from Haruki Murakami’s “Wind Up Bird Chronicle”, chosen by the Groom. The Maid of Honor read from “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”, chosen by the Bride. Malory and AJ wrote their own vows and the words to the wine ceremony that would bind them. With two magnum bottles, one red and one prosecco, they mixed old tradition with their own beliefs to create vows that they wrote together.

When I heard this couple met and fell for each other while tango dancing, I couldn’t wait to browse the gallery of their love-filled wedding day! With this beautiful, quintessential home as the backdrop surrounded by friends and family from all over the world the 2 cultures came together in their appreciation for family, love, and amazing good. Dinner was served under a billowing white tent family style, with the hum of laughter and love floating through the April evening. The party, which was in the midst of Elise’s mother’s meticulously manicured garden, was designed to seamlessly flow with its surrounding. The tent was filled with greenery draped chandeliers and blooms dripping with colors of spring. The poppy was the catalyst for the bright color infusion, which can be found covering the fields of Marco’s home country but can also be found in a painting in the living room of the home Elise and her father before her grew up in.

Elise and Marco surprised their guests with a fantastic tango dance under the stars, complete with a custom made “bridal inspired” tango dress Elise donned. They even had a custom logo created inspired by photo of the two of them dancing tango. The evening was the perfect marriage of not only a much in love couple but also their two world intertwining much like one of their favorite tango moves.

Jared and Mia is one of the most beautiful couples I’ve ever had the privilege to capture on camera. This gorgeous Perth’s power couple tied the knot in beautiful island of Bali. There are two things I especially loved and found exceptionally memorable about this simple yet elegant and intimate wedding. First, the speeches. Second, the Greek folk circle dance.

While the first one is something that I’ve seen and heard often, all these speeches blew me away. They were just so much genuine and heartfelt words sent this couple’s way – adding to the overall warm ambiance that everyone surely felt that evening. As for the Greek circle dance itself, that’s definitely quite rare! All the guests got up from their seats toward the dance floor, to stand arm in arm in the Greek circle dance. Opa!

At the reception, one of Mia’s uncle came up to me and asked me if I was any good at what I do. I smiled as I struggled to find the answer. But before I could say anything, he told me that I must be good because Mia, the perfectionist, hired me to document her wedding. I politely thanked him. In fact, I should have told him that the honor and pleasure was actually all mine to have been invited to capture such a beautiful wedding and witnessed the extraordinary love of Mia and Jared.

This is a gorgeous, secret garden fall wedding. The tones are deep and complementary to the season while keeping your favorite garden colors, and the venue. This venue has not had an event on this part of the property, so it was refreshing to use an area that fit the aesthetic desired. From Eliza Morrill Photography… What happens when a NICU nurse falls in love with a captain in the Army? A sweet, dreamy wedding day that will have us drooling for years to come. Ivey and Michael met on Tinder, of all places, and immediately hit it off on their first date over Thai food and a trip to the shooting range (what else would we expect from a military man?!). There’s no doubt these two were made for each other, and the rest is history.

Ivey and her team of vendors did an exceptional job of seamlessly marrying tradition with whimsy, creating a unique twist on the classic southern wedding. That said, she didn’t want to overdo it in the planning process. “Prior to planning our wedding, I envisioned a relatively small, intimate gathering of family and friends,” Ivey told us. “I had been a Bridesmaid in ten weddings prior to my own, and I knew after experiencing the planning process with these friends, I wanted to be able to enjoy each moment of the planning and each day of our engagement.”

When asked about her vision and style for the day, Ivey remarked, “The style I was going for initially was farm-to-table. I knew from the beginning I wanted things to be simple yet elegant. It all seemed to come together when I met with my floral designer, Brooke Anderson. I began telling her my visions to include lots of greenery. She immediately caught on to the style and thought of the potted herbs as centerpieces. I chose my favorite colors for the overall color palette. I referred to them as dusty rose and dusty blue. After choosing our reception venue, the Illges House, I knew the color scheme would be perfect.”

The Illges House, indeed, offered the perfect color scheme – an antebellum home full of unique and modern decor, and exposed patina plaster served as an incredible backdrop for Ivey’s porcelain skin and red hair. Seeing her seated on the emerald velvet sofa reminded me of Boticelli’s Venus! Ivey and her Bridesmaids – her sister and her best friend – carried bouquets of peonies, ranunculus, and anemones with a long, blush ribbon trailing from Ivey’s hands. “The flowers were by far my favorite part of the decor. I told Brooke I wanted everything to be very loose and natural, and that is just what she provided. It was magical!,” Ivey said.

Ivey’s gown, by designer Tara Keely, was seemingly made for her, and the Bridesmaids’ blue tulle skirts and simple, white tops were the perfect amount of playful and elegant. Michael wore his traditional dress blues and showcased his many medals (some of which he earned while he and Ivey were dating!) and had one of the sweetest reactions to seeing his Bride that we’ve ever photographed. To say that he loves his wife would be the understatement of the century, and watching the subtle ways he doted on her throughout the day had us melting. The feeling was certainly mutual: “My favorite moment of the whole day was walking down the aisle to my husband. I chose to have my mom and my stepdad walk with me, and I was immediately overcome with emotions as the doors opened to the chapel. From seeing Michael’s face to seeing all of the friends and family who had come to celebrate with us, it was the most joyous moment. I could not have been more thankful in that moment for all of the incredible people we have in our lives.”

The two were married in the same chapel where Ivey’s parents tied the knot years before and were married by a dear family friend. They entered their reception through a traditional saber arch (and cut the cake with a saber, too!).

Rather than traditional centerpieces, Ivey opted for potted herbs that also doubled as gifts for her guests. Classic southern fare was served on vintage china while a keg of craft beer flowed nearby. Guests danced the night away to music played by close friends of the couple before exiting through a tunnel of glowsticks. As for Ivey’s advice to other Brides? “For anyone planning their wedding, I would say to remember to enjoy each moment. It is easy to get caught up in the little details, but those details don’t matter at the end of the day. Remember the reason for your wedding to begin with. At the end of the day, you get to be with the one you love, forever!”

We’ve talked about how to style your guest bedroom before, but making sure your guests have everything they need, is just as important. From extra toothbrushes to a glass of water before they turn in, make sure you check off this list before your visitors arrive!

Extra Toiletries

We’ve all done it. Forgotten our toothbrush! It’s especially embarrassing when you’re a guest in a home versus a hotel. Uhh, do you have an extra toothbrush I can use? Don’t make your guests ask you that. Have a few extra toothbrushes and convenient toiletries like soap, tooth paste, mouthwash, q-tips, shampoo and conditioner, etc. in plain sight.

Fresh Towels

This is a no-brainer but absolutely something you should never forget to leave our for your house guests! Include wash cloths as well. I know people who don’t use them but I personally do every single day to wash my face. Have them there for your guests to use if they wish.

Extra Blankets + Pillows

Being away from home in and of itself can disturb a good night’s sleep. Make sure your guests have extra blankets and pillows so they don’t get chilly or stiff necks. For pillows, make sure to have a medium fill, nothing too soft or too fluffy, to accommodate all types of guests.

Hair Dryer

I always like to keep an extra hair dryer in our guest bath. An inexpensive travel-size one is a great and does the trick, so guests don’t have to pack theirs along! Let them know you’ve got one in advance so they don’t have to bring theirs if they’d don’t want to.

A Glass of Water

Don’t make your guests sneak to the kitchen in the middle of the night for a glass of water. Offer them one before bed, or have bottled water already stocked up on their nightstand. It’s the little details that they’ll so appreciate!

From the couple… Anniversaries, an opportunity to look back and fill up on gratitude for all the blessings through the years. 7 years after our wedding, we’ve passed many milestones – first jobs, first apartment, two lovely daughters, our first business, first pets, first mini van… We also picked up our fair share of battle wounds and scars, won many victories, had suffocating lows, blessed many, and received even more blessings and promises. Honestly, we have been in such a busy and chaotic season in our lives that I wondered if we would have the time or energy to take a night off and celebrate. But this year, not only did we have our first date night in ages, but we also took a day to get dressed up, get hair and makeup done, and have our photos taken for the first time in 7 years! Because marriage is worth celebrating. Because our wedding day was the last time I focused on the importance of preserving our memories of us as a couple. And because showing our girls how to honor, love and respect each other well is one of the best things we can do for them. I’m convinced the world needs more positive images not just of the wedding day, but also the many years of marriage. We need to celebrate the sacredness of marriage and cherish the day-in and day-out, sometimes non-glamorous, displays of forgiveness, perseverance, commitment, hope, selflessness, and love.

From We Are Origami… Emily and Robert got married on the beautiful property of Wombat Hollow. The venue is a 20 acre property located in the seclusion of the Australian bush, 1.5 hours from Sydney. Emily and Rob have been together for over five years. They met at a pub but knew right then and there that they were the ones for each other! Emily describes Rob as thoughtful, tall, impulsive, funny, witty, forgiving whilst Rob describes Emily as happy, caring, funny without meaning to be, gorgeous, kid-friendly, loved by everyone!

From the Groom… I knew that Em would be suspicious if I planned anything obvious, so I wanted to make sure I surprised her (with the proposal). We were at Bawley Point, on the south coast and we went down to the beach for a swim before breakfast. When we were in the water, there was no one else at all on the beach. I got down on one knee amongst the waves and asked Em to marry me. After a lot of tears from Em, a lot of near-drowning from me, Em eventually said yes, after checking several times that I was being serious.

From the Photographer… Stephanie + Luis had a stunning destination wedding in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. They rented a modern Villa just outside of San Miguel de Allende and spent the week there with their close family. The ceremony was in the town church and the reception and welcome dinner was at the Villa. They treated close family and friends to a hot air balloon ride over the city the morning before. That evening, they celebrated a “callejoneada” and paraded around the city center with mariachis and paper mache characters.
