Real Wedding or Fairytale Photoshoot: Can You Tell!?

Don’t be mistaken, this is an actual, REAL wedding, not a fairytale photoshoot. Between the chateau that resembles a castle and a Bride that’s as close to a princess as possible, it’s easy to be fooled. But nope, this is the real deal and Peter and Veronika’s pics prove it all. A Very Beloved Wedding planned and designed this celebration, inspired by the beautiful couple themselves and their love for movies, travel and impressionist art, creating an absolute masterpiece. See their happily ever after play out in front of us right this way!

From A Very Beloved Wedding… The couple is the inspiration. KC and Dan met almost six years ago. They are both constantly on the move, always on the go to discover world’s beauty. They complement each other in every way: KC thinks big and Dan thinks of how to get there. They grow together more and more each day of their relationship and with their wedding they celebrated this unique bonding, together with their dearest friends and family. KC and Dan’s French destination wedding is a dream of romance, filled with pastel colors, memorable, unique, artful, and fun, in the perfect scenario: a unique Chateau in the middle of inconsistent nature and artful history. The couple takes their inspiration for beauty in romantic, dreamy movies, in impressionist French art, and in their numerous travels. The world inspires them. Their wedding is therefore a mirror for romance, beautiful dreams, history, art, beauty, originality, and magic. The color palette includes touches of gold, dusty rose, soft pinks, antique pinks, shades of French lavender, wood, stone, fruits, different shades of white and creme, and Monet greens.

A Multi-Cultural Celebration With a Beautiful Bali Backdrop

Pulling from their English and Australian backgrounds, this couple chose the insanely gorgeous backdrop of Bali for their Persian/western wedding celebration. The result is the most gorgeous mix of culture and tropical infused decor planned by Call Me Madame, along with florals designed by Bloomz. And just wait until you see this reception under a sea of chandeliers. Get ready for image after breathtaking image through the lens of Katie Grant Photography.

Shadi is English, Christian is Australian and they choose beautiful Bali as the background for their persian-western wedding ceremony. A stunning white colonial cliff-top villa, the salty air, blush and pale pink gorgeous flowers and the endless view on the ocean : this is the setting in which the guests wistnessed Shadi and Christian vows. The couple choose to recreate a french garden for their ceremony : vintage Louis chairs, white large Medicis vases, a metal garden gate as a canopy. The bride wore an absolutely gorgeous dress designed by Modeca, from Js Couture ; the groom got married in a Dolce & Gabbana navy blue suit. The bridesmaids wore off-white mismatched, lace dresses. As for the dining ceremony, we recreated a french pergola, delicately adorned with natural gauze veils for a soft and light look, and hold vintage chandeliers above the tables. Pale pink and blush color palette for the floral arrangements, navy blue details in the stationery with the talented Shervi from Pi Calligraphy and Anaïs from Pastilles et Petits Pois. Elegant tableware from The Host Table. Amazing wedding cake by Butter Bali.

4 Ways to Make Your Guest Room More Inviting

With the holidays quickly approaching, getting your guest room and bath gussied up should be on the top of your priority list if you are hosting family or friends now or in the new year.

From essential items to items that are more fancy and fun, these tips are sure to make your guests feel warm and cozy in your home.

Clean and Inviting Environment

Adding things like scented candles and a fresh floral arrangement will put your guests at ease while making them feel extra welcomed to your home – plus, they are fun elements to include to showcase your personal style. Presenting a clean and organized environment will make your guests feel the room was designed specifically with them in mind!

Welcome Basket

Right before your guests are set to arrive, place a beautifully curated welcome basket on the foot of the bed. Include fun things like a lifestyle magazine, sweet treats, and an item that can be used during one of your upcoming outings (think a beach towel if you are headed to the pool or beach!) and essentials like extra bars of soap, and a beautiful printable of the Wifi password. If you live in a city or state in which your guests are not from, try including local items such as locally made honey, a community paper, or an item your state is known for (i.e. a basket of oranges if your home is in Florida).

If you have a guest bathroom as well, including toiletry essentials such as small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and cotton balls can be a great addition to your welcome basket for an overall comfortable stay.

Organized Linen Closet

An organized closet in your guest room will make your guests feel more welcome. Include extra pillows, throw blankets, and linens to make your guests feel extra comfy. Having things readily and easily accessible for your guests such as towels, an iron and ironing board, and a surface to unpack their belongings will give them a more boutique hotel feel. Make sure to leave extra hangers in your closet for delicate items to be hung – this is a small note, but one your guests will appreciate as they are getting ready for one of the fun activities on your itinerary together!

Beverage Cart

Add a dash of fun and excitement by including a cart or table with beverages. A styled beverage cart including things like bottled water, snacks, and cocktails will make your guests feel more comfortable by having light snacks on hand in their room rather than having to feel intrusive when looking through the main pantry in the kitchen.

4 Wedding Locales That Will Rule the New Year

If you dream of hosting THE celebration of 2018, congrats! We know just where to start. Because today we’re turning to our friends at SPG Weddings for four awesome locales perfect for hosting your Big Day – and we know you’re going to love every. last. one. From seaside resorts to picturesque hotels with a little side of princess, start planning your 2018 bash below.

THE WESTIN CAPE CORAL RESORT AT MARINA VILLAGE

Why we love it: The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village is sort of the end-all, be-all of wedding resorts. With venues that feature floor-to-ceiling windows, fairy tale-esque balconies and stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico, that glam celebration you’ve always wanted is definitely there for the taking. We love the luxe accommodations (hello seaside pool), lineup of fun activities (think zoos, farm tours, parks and more) and two fabulous restaurant options; we’re especially obsessed with their brand new ballroom that can host as many as 750 guests. Plus, you can even arrive by helicopter. Now THAT’S an entrance.

What you can’t miss: It’s all about the Tarpon Point Marina with everything from kayaking to fishing charters to boat rentals on the menu. You can even take a complimentary water taxi to the beach for some pre or post-wedding rest and relaxation. This is a place that is made for wedding AND water lovers.

FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON QUEBEC RESORT

Why we love it: It doesn’t get much more amazing than Old Québec City, and the Four Points by Sheraton Québec Resort’s convenient locale to downtown makes it easy to explore anything and everything in this historic community – you can even take a free shuttle from the resort. But when you’re not bopping around one of the coziest + prettiest places on earth, you can play a round of golf at the beautiful 18-hole Golf de la Faune course, take advantage of the nearby recreational tours or spa the day away at La Faune Spa et Détente. And your wedding? Well, they have that covered, too, with over 7,000 square feet of flexible space, so you can host up to 288 guests and show off those beautiful views.

What you can’t miss: Two words: Ice Hotel. Yep, it’s an entire hotel made of ice that your guests will absolutely love to explore with guided tours that end at an ice bar where you can sip your fave libation in a glass made of – you guessed it – ice. Talk about the perfect way to welcome all of your loved ones to your celebration – and the Four Points by Sheraton Québec Resort has packages that make it so, so easy to visit.

THE BALLANTYNE, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL, CHARLOTTE

Why we love it: If you’ve never had the pleasure of visiting Charlotte, North Carolina, we insist you make the trip. Because this beautiful city is basically made for marrying, and The Ballantyne, a Luxury Collection Hotel is the place to do it. With stunning indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception spaces, yummy menu options and an entire list of resort amenities that are sure to keep your guests happy (hey there spa, golf and nearby shopping), you’ll be bopping around the breathtaking grounds like the Cinderella you always knew you were. Oh, and did we mention the elegant ballrooms and outdoor ceremony space? So good.

What you can’t miss: The Cottage at Ballantyne. This sweet little spot is located just mere minutes from The Ballantyne Hotel and can provide you and yours with the privacy you’ll be craving… OR you can take advantage of that last hurrah with your besties. Bonus? You’ll have access to a golf cart and concierge, so you are truly just a quick trip from your loved ones. We adore the princess vibes (your very own cottage?!?)… and the coziness.

THE WESTIN HILTON HEAD ISLAND RESORT & SPA

Why we love it: There are seaside resorts, and then there is The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa, a little slice of wedding heaven located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean. We’re all about the coastal chic decor (and 5,000 square feet of space that can host up to 220 guests!) of the Grand Ocean Terrace and the glass walls that slide open to a full-length balcony with water views for days. Your guests will be totally blown away by the scenery, not to mention the stone patio with fireplace. Oh, and did we mention that The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa is a AAA Four Diamond Award-winning resort that is also home to a beautiful beach, three pools and ballrooms with space for 416? Your nearest and dearest will have plenty to do when they aren’t celebrating your nuptials, including honing their golf and tennis skills at the nearby Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club.

What you can’t miss: The Heavenly Spa by Westin. Smack-dab in the midst of gorgeous gardens and lagoons, the spa is just what you’ll need pre and post-wedding with a never-ending list of services that will help you unwind and relax, from nine treatment rooms to whirlpool tubs to an awesome sauna. Even better? Their amazing spa team will come to your room the day of your wedding, making all of your wedding prep seriously simple and sans any stress. We love that.

5 Perfect Cozy Destinations for an Intimate Winter Wedding

I simply adore the winter time and for both the budget conscious and the adventurous couple, winter is a perfect time to get married. Since winter brings with it the offseason for weddings, it is often possible to find wonderful deals while planning your wedding. What’s more, there are numerous gorgeous winter wedding destinations for snow lovers and thrill seekers alike.

I’ve searched high and low to curate a wonderful selection of the perfect cozy destinations for an intimate winter wedding!

Nestled in a log cabin lodge
I simply love the crisp brightness of winter sun! While I’m sure it makes a photographer’s job a bit more challenging, I simply love the glow of winter sun reflecting off freshly fallen snowflakes. For the more rustically inclined, a welcoming log cabin lodge on the grounds of a ranch would make the perfect wedding reception location. The natural elegance of Winter Range Ranch in Bend, Oregon is undeniable and it has me itching to attend a wedding in the pacific northwest!

On the shores of Lake Louise
While Lake Louise is equally stunning in the warmer months, the snowy Canadian mountains framing this stunning valley in Alberta are the perfect backdrop for winter nuptials. Banff has truly become a hip tourist destination in recent years and there is no doubt why this little corner the world is so attractive. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is the perfect upscale hotel to give you a charming and sophisticated wedding celebration in a cozy and rustic environment.

In a snowcapped Austrian village
What’s more romantic and intimate than nestling together and saying your vows as fresh flakes settle all around you? An outdoor snowy wedding is not for the faint of heart, or for the adventure shy, but the sweet memories of a snow-laden ceremony are certain to wow.

Hotel Klosterbräu is a gorgeous venue, dating back to the 1500’s, in the idyllic Austrian town of Tirol. The perfect historic getaway for your postcard-worthy winter wedding!

Overlooking the French Alps
From falling in love strolling along the Seine eating chocolate croissants to saying your nuptials overlooking the French Alps, The French truly have love down to a science! I would love to take a page from the French and say I do in style at Courchevel, a ski resort in the French Alps. For couples whose guests have a penchant for adventure, the French Alps are the perfect excuse for a vacation, adventure, and celebration all wrapped into one.

On an Aspen mountaintop
Colorado is certainly not lacking in quality ski towns. From Vail to Snowmass, Winter Park, and Aspen, there are copious amazing options to chose from. However, the charm and picturesque nature of Aspen never ceases to amaze me. The Chateau at Incline Village is a wonderful venue if you’re up for high altitude wedding weekend.

So where would you pick for your perfect cozy winter wedding festivities? We would be remiss if we didn’t add all these lovely locales to our never-ending must-visit list!

These Two Outdoor Lovers Found the Perfect Spot To Say “I Do”

When you love to spend your free time hiking and camping, it’s sort of a given that your wedding locale be smack-dab in the midst of the great outdoors. And for Shannon and Ryan, this meant turning to the team at Heavenly Mountain Resort for a wedding that was just as elegant as it was natural. From the breathtaking mountaintop ceremony to the rustic chic reception, we can’t get enough of these two sweeties… or their stunning celebration.

When it came to a wedding venue, Shannon and Ryan wanted something that reflected their personalities as well as their hobbies. They both enjoy hiking, camping, and the great outdoors. When they visited Heavenly’s Lakeview Lodge, they found the natural beauty that they both share a passion for, along with a natural rustic inspiration. As they rode the Aerial Tram down the mountain they realized a Heavenly wedding was the only option for them.

On the day of the wedding, the bridesmaids arrived first at the Aerial Tram, which whisked them up to the private Lakeview Lodge at 8,200 feet. The gentleman showed up next, ready to have some fun and show their love for the couple. High above the shimmering waters of Lake Tahoe, Shannon and Ryan chose to do a private first look. Their attention then turned to the bridal party and immediate family. The wooden arch on the outdoor ceremony deck was whimsically decorated to match the free form bouquets. The couple’s dear friend Justin Johnson did the honors of uniting them, as friends and family enjoyed the nuptials on a typical Tahoe August day full of sunshine and warmth.

Following the ceremony, the guests enjoyed cocktails and taking pictures of each other with the jaw-dropping background of Lake Tahoe. They then entered Lakeview Lodge and dined inside while the Heavenly catering team took care of dinner. The geometric floral arrangements were a mix of metal, glass and floral seamlessly incorporating themselves into the natural beauty of the surroundings. Following the Heavenly prepared buffet dinner, the guests enjoyed a variety of different types of cupcakes prepared by Flour Girl Wedding Cakes.

The couple enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife on the outdoor terrace overlooking Lake Tahoe with all of their family and friends circled around them. The love in the air was contagious. Once the traditional dances were complete, the DJ filled the dance floor with guests and the group danced the night away under the stars. The mile long Tram ride down the mountain was the buttercream on the cupcake, as guests enjoyed the silhouette of the mountains and the shimmering lights around Lake Tahoe under a half moon. Shannon and Ryan’s private mountaintop wedding will not be forgotten by any that attended.

Whether you’re planning a grand event for all of your friends and family or dream of a more intimate get-together of just your nearest and dearest, Heavenly Mountain Resort can definitely make it all happen with two private venues that will have your guests soaring high above the waters on the Ariel Tram or Gondola, even before the party begins. Not to mention that Heavenly’s talented staff are serious pros at putting together dream days with a side of lake views, so you can let that nature-inspired day come together without any stress. Choose from their two gorgeous venues: the Blue Sky Terrace for parties up to 300 guests and views from their three-tiered observation deck OR the Lakeview Lodge with its two-tiered dining room and space for 250 guests. Either way, you can’t go wrong, because Heavenly Mountain Resort is the perfect spot for your mountain wedding.

Celebrating Modern Romance With the Prettiest Garden Affair

This modern romance started online and culminated with the happiest ever after. Planned by Becky’s Brides, with gorgeous garden blooms by Vera Flora and all captured by Eric & Jamie Photography, have a look at an elegant garden affair filled with sparkling chandeliers, and the sweetest cake table ending. See the full affair right here.

Jessica and Ryan share a self-proclaimed “modern romance” since they met online a few years ago. They had their first date in October of 2015 and like they say, it was history after that. This precious couple tied the knot in early September and their day was just as special as they are. Since the moment we began planning, Jessica knew she wanted a classic, bright and fun atmosphere for her wedding day. Jessica loved soft florals and neutrals with a touch of glam – which can be seen in her sparkly, show-stopping cake table. That gave her the idea of a fabulous garden party with chandeliers dangling through the reception area. The ceremony was simple, to focus on the incredibly important nuptials and then guests were whisked away into a gorgeous pavilion that perfectly reflected Jessica’s style. Form the classic design of Jessica’s dress to the gorgeous full, summer blooms, it was definitely a day to remember- it was everything they had hoped for and more.

Pretty Dress + Precious Pup… Does It Get Any Better!?

This couple’s adorable fur baby made her presence known during her parent’s special day… right on her mama’s pretty dress. Sara Lynn captured this sweet moment – and many, many more – from this al fresco Colorado celebration; from the beautiful Jenny Yoo bridesmaids’ dresses to dinner underneath the twinkling lights, it was simply stunning. See all the photos – including more of this precious pup – in our gallery right this way!

From Sara Lynn… Ashley and Mark moved to Colorado and wanted to host their wedding day in the foothills for their closest friends and family, all from out of state. Because it would be a destination for their guests, they wanted to create an intimate and timeless celebration. Ashley picked pinks and lots of greens as her main color palette and chose to host dinner under the twinkle lights as the sun set. Ashley and Mark’s fur-baby, Lulu, was their flower-pup and stayed by Ashley’s side throughout the entire day, making Ashley’s gown her “spot”.

From the Bride… The inspiration for our big day was focused around our honeymoon destination, Greece. Getting married at a Mediterranean Villa in the middle of Colorado was just the start of bringing it all together. From there we focused our food theme of the Mountains meet the Mediterranean, incorporating traditional Greek dishes with local Colorado ingredients such as bison and chevre. To give it a bit more flare, we included gold as a main accent, with lots of greenery and even olive branches in every menu setting. The entire evening was outdoors, to soak up the Colorado scenery and experience Colorado’s low humidity. My favorite moment of the entire evening was the ceremony. Being the youngest of four girls and the last to be married, I’ve waited seventeen years since my father walked my first sister down the aisle. Having it finally be my turn was something I’ve always looked forward to and having the love of my life waiting at the end. Seeing Mark standing under the beautifully decorated arch my father built us, holding our fur-child is a sight I will never forget. We exchanged rings and vows with our fur-child laying by our feet, surrounded by family and friends who had traveled near and far to be there on our special day. The ceremony will forever be my favorite part of our wedding day.

At the end of the day, don’t lose sight of the meaning of the wedding. It’s often easy to get wrapped up in details and aesthetics of the big day, more often than not putting stress on you and your partner. You are marrying your best friend, regardless of what everything looks like or how it all turns out, your wedding day is the first day of forever with your soul mate and that trumps all. Take time during the wedding to take mental photographs. It’s a whirlwind of a day and at times, a sensory overload. The times you stop and really take it all in are the moments you’ll remember forever.

3 Ways to Deck the Halls without Going Overboard

I’m a firm believer that changing up even the slightest of details in your home can result in a big impact. That rings true especially around the holidays. A sea of red and green just isn’t my jam. You with me? Thankfully, we can still layer on the festive feels without going full out Buddy the elf on our homes and Jana Bek, interior designer and creator of luxury home decor products, is showing us how today with a few simple tips!

From Jana BekI’ve never been one to change our decor for the seasons since I always felt stretched too thin; however, this year my family resolved to “go big” for the holidays, without going overboard.

Add Greenery

I like using alternatives to pine and spruce to decorate such as bay wreaths and magnolia branches. Leaves still look so pretty even when they dry – It’s a delight to know that they will continue to look festive and fabulous for weeks of entertaining to come.

You’d be surprised what sort of greenery a local florist can get for you. If something doesn’t appear to be available at your florist, have a chat with them. Often, if they have at least a week’s notice, they can source it for you. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at a local florist, Etsy also has some great options for leaves, wreaths, and other holiday decor.

Layer Textures

From cashmere and wool throws to warm wood, I suggest using different textures to create a cozy atmosphere that invites people to stay a while. Their neutral tones make them easy to layer into spaces of any palette.

Embrace Jewel Tones

Try jewel tones instead of traditional holiday colors. Don’t feel constrained to white, green and red. I love deep jewel tones during this time of year—they feel so right for the holidays! Try using deep colored fruits such as pomegranates and clementines to bring color to your kitchen. The jewel tones are festive and serve as edible decor.

Your Guide to the Sweet Spot Between Rustic + Glamorous

It’s not too often you’ll find a wedding that achieves the sweet spot right between rustic and glamorous, but this one captured by Julie Paisley Photography associates, Christy and Sarah, certainly has! The day took place at the charming, rustic Long Hollow Gardens + Nursery, which Vintage Florals decked out in the prettiest white blooms. Add in blue Manolos, sparkly bridesmaids’ gowns, and chic golden flatware to this greenhouse wedding, and you’ve got the perfect balance of styles…and this Pinterest-worthy celebration!

Sometimes it rains on your wedding day, but when your venue is an amazing greenhouse, the back up plan is just as beautiful. Long Hollow Gardens is the venue you want to book for a perfect rain plan. Spring weddings in Nashville are rainy, but when you have the team from Southern Social and Melissa from Vintage Florals together, a “rain plan” is not a bad thing at all. This wedding did not disappoint when it came to details. A beautiful floral arch, sprays of florals down the aisle, a palette of greenery, blush and blue, all tied together in a classic and elegant design. This is a wedding that you would want to experience over and over again. I’m sure you will find so much inspiration captured by the Julie Paisley associate team, Christy and Sarah.

The Bride Wore 2 Gowns, Both Special to her Mom!

While the main components are often the same, every wedding has that special something absolutely unique to it, and discovering those unique touches is my favorite part of my job and often what I love to talk about up here. But in today’s wedding captured by McCune Photography and planned by High Society Event Planning, there are too many incredibly cool and thoughtful touches to fit them all in one paragraph! For example: This Rancho Las Lomas wedding had two ceremonies – one Filipino Catholic and one Thai Buddhist; the mother of the bride designed and sewed the bride’s custom gown for the first ceremony; and the bride wore her mother’s own wedding dress for the second. See what I mean? You’ll have to read below to find out more!

Ranch

From the Bride… When I originally envisioned our wedding, the words “romantic, rustic, and shabby-chic” came to mind. I was in love with the idea of soft-touch pastels, peony flowers, eucalyptus, lavender, wooden-signs, and a magical venue that could help bring all those elements together. Additionally, Jeff and I both envisioned getting to incorporate our cultural customs, religion, and personality into the whole program. We really wanted to create a memorable and personalized wedding in which our family and friends could enjoy, appreciate, and remember for the rest of their lives.

We held both a Filipino ceremony, which we drew from my husband’s Filipino-Catholic background, and a Thai ceremony, which we drew from my Thai and Buddhist-influenced customs. Initially setting out to do this was a bit of a challenge since both ceremonies were drastically different in style, setting, and decor. Luckily for us, we had a venue that offered multiple settings, each with its own charm. Our Filipino ceremony was held on the Teatro level of Rancho Las Lomas, and it was the perfect setting for me to walk down the aisle to meet my handsome husband. It provided that classic garden wedding fit for a grand procession to enter, and it was everything we ever wanted for our big day.

Our Thai ceremony, on the other hand, was meant to be a bit more laid-back and was held on the Grand Salon level where our cocktail hour was being held. We planned it this way to give our guests a more relaxed environment where they could participate in the ceremony, grab drinks, and casually mingle. This portion of the ceremony also gave us the opportunity to be more intimate with our guests as they were able to walk up to us, provide their well-wishings, and take individual pictures with us. Due to the size of our wedding, Jeff and I weren’t sure if we were going to get a lot of one-on-one time with all of our guests, but luckily this portion of our program really afforded us that opportunity.

Since Jeff and I were friends for 7 years before we even started dating, we have many stories and trips that pre-dated our romantic relationship. One of our fondest memories revolves around Hawaii and the Maui Lavender Farm because it was after that trip that we bonded and decided to go from just friends to romantically dating. Our touch of Maui came in form of our specialty cocktail drinks, which we offered at our open bar. We presented Maui Wowies — which are mixed with pineapple juice, triple sec, and liquor— and Lavender Lemon Drops — which featured hints of lavender in a sweet and sour lemon drop concoction. Jeff and I also got to incorporate our Hawaiian theme into our dinner menu, which 24 Carrots Catering did an incredible job of delivering on. Additionally, we had a Hawaiian-inspired Lechon Roasted Pig to tie in my husband’s Filipino traditions into the meal. Meanwhile, we were able to incorporate our symbolic lavender flower in many ways, including placing them in all of our bouquets, boutonnieres, table settings, and floral arrangements.

While a lot of the look and feel to the wedding came from my personal input, we tried to incorporate my husband’s laid-back and personal taste by including one of his favorite things in the world: donuts. Instead of going with a traditional-tiered cake, we went with a 5-tiered donut stand, which was hand-made by a seller on Etsy. We placed (or rather our amazing coordinators did) a gorgeous, mini 8-inch cake on the top, which allowed us to still cut a cake, while the rest of the tiers held our mini sugar and glazed donuts. The whole thing was a huge hit as our guests swarmed to the table immediately after it was presented.

My floral inspiration came from rustic, romantic, and semi-bohemian themes. I was also keen on incorporating lavender into our arrangements and wedding setting as that was “our flower”. The final product was a collection of beautiful white peonies, light pink floral accents feathered with muted eucalyptus greens and lavender. While the florals kept with the romantic theme that I wanted, I tried to add a little “rustic-ness” to the design with handmade signs and decor. Fortunately, my best friend, and one of my bridesmaids, is a talented artist, and she was able to able to provide the perfect personalized touch to our wedding with incredible handmade signs for our welcome table, reception tables, and favors table.

Besides getting to marry the man of my dreams, one of the best and most memorable parts of my wedding day was getting to walk down the aisle in the gown that my mother made me. Growing up, my mom made all my dresses for the important events in my life — homecoming, prom, graduation — so when it came to my wedding, it only seemed appropriate that she would make my dress. My mom and I were inspired by the elegance of lace, the traditional look of a Cathedral train, as well as modern and functional details. So for the Filipino ceremony, I wore the full look with my detachable train clipped on like a belt at the waist. Then at my reception, I was able to take the train off and enjoy a more simple, figure-hugging yet elegant look that allowed me to move freely throughout the dance floor.

Another aspect of the wedding that was very special to me was that I was able to wear my mom’s very own Thai wedding dress for my Thai ceremony. We didn’t always plan it that way; in fact, it was a last minute decision. My mom showed me her very own wedding dress a week before the wedding, and I fell in love with it. So, with some adjustments, I was able to proudly wear my mom’s dress, which was incredible!

One piece of advice that I would give brides-to-be is to really think about what’s important to you, your fiancé, and perhaps your family (if that’s important for you) when it comes to your wedding and what elements you want to incorporate. Figure out what are the non-negotiables and nice-to-haves and go from there. Planning a wedding can be very overwhelming and stressful, especially with all the details, details, details… And while all the hard work and time will pay off in the end, remember to have fun in the moment and enjoy the process, because it is one of the most exciting times in your life.

7 Interior Decorating Mistakes You Might Be Making

It’s amazing to make a place your own and bring out your style. However, it’s so common to make easy mistakes along the way. After living in four different locations in three years, I learned a few things along the way—made some mistakes, cursed Pinterest for the rest of my life and finally found a rhythm and solution for my mishaps.

Not Measuring Things
A huge downfall when you’re buying decor and furniture occurs when you ignore the dimensions of things. You may be thinking, well, of course, you wouldn’t buy a couch that doesn’t fit.  BUT I’m talking about the small things. You may buy new dining room chairs that sit too low for your dining room table. Or you may get a TV console that isn’t as wide as the TV. Paying attention to dimensions and physically measuring your room will create a clean look. Don’t ignore those dimensions when you’re shopping, even if you have to be that girl that brings a measuring tape with you!

Not Paying Attention to the Fine Print
Each company handles shipment and delivery in a different way. Some will offer to unbox it for you and move it physically inside the house, some will leave it at the front door, and some will text you to schedule a delivery time so you can coordinate when you’re home. When you ignore these details, you forfeit your ability to plan well and stay on track with your decor process. Your brand new couch could be delivered while you are away and left outside in the dead of winter. The possibilities are endless. Don’t be the girl that leaves her couch in the wind.

Copying and Pasting Someone Else’s Style
Pinterest truly is a blessing and a curse. It’s great to get inspired, but it can be detrimental to your own aesthetic when you try to force a built-in breakfast nook situation in your teeny kitchen, or when you slap that blush pink paint on your front door that ends up clashing with your brick? Use Pinterest to find YOUR style, instead of using it to copy someone else’s style. Been there, definitely done that.

Not Using What You Already Have
Getting new decor and furniture can be refreshing but don’t forget about the items you already have. That weird old wooden dresser that you don’t like anymore can be painted white and given new modern handles, the ugly brown chair can be reupholstered, the glass candle jar can be used as a vase. Use what you have and find ways to transform it in a way that works with your new look.

Not Thrifting
I don’t think I need to go into depth here about how scary expensive furniture and decor can be. You walk into a store to “just browse” and you walk out with four throw pillows, a new bar cart accessory and BAM you just spent $120! Instead of buying everything brand new, make a list of items that you need to splurge on and items that you can thrift for. For us, the priority was buying our own brand new couch. And instead of getting a fancy new dining room table, we shopped for a thrifted one. Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize.

Being Too Matchy
This is a tricky one. In an effort to have a nice clean look you end up buying everything that looks exactly the same. To avoid this, buy things slowly. Don’t rush into everything all at once. If you take your time you’ll find ways to match things without looking like you’re living in a perpetual store advertisement.

Not Budgeting
Like I mentioned before, money flies away FAST when you’re decorating. Before you start looking, plan exactly how much you’ll spend. Stay on track by putting together a spreadsheet with the list of items you start to buy and watch your budget slowly decrease. This will force you to be diligent in following along with your budget.

Decorating is fun, expensive, intimidating, thrilling, and relieving. Stay true to you, pay attention to the details, and don’t forget your budget. Oh and be careful with those freaking throw pillows!

Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing Your Engagement Ring

‘Tis the season for engagement ring shopping and if you’re on the hunt for “the one” to call your own (yay!), we’re here to help. Think a little ring shopping 101 with breakdowns on the 4 C’s, the perfect setting, selecting the right metal and more. Find out how to choose the right sparkler below.

THE 4 C’S

Cut, color, clarity and carat. If you’ve been ring shopping, then you’ve heard these four words time and time again. Because when it comes to finding the perfect diamond sparkler, choosing a diamond with the least color (A is awesome, Z not so great) and flaws (aka, clarity) is key. And since we all want our diamonds to dazzle, we’ll let you in on a little secret: the cut is THE most important. Why? Well, if the cut isn’t amazing, it really doesn’t matter if the ring is colorless or flawless… it still won’t shine the way you want. And what we want is a diamond that sends off signals the minute we step into the sun, amiright? And, don’t forget – bigger isn’t always better when it comes to selecting the right diamond. If your gem grades higher in the other areas (especially the aforementioned cut), it will shine brighter than a larger diamond that isn’t.

THE “OTHER” GEMSTONES

We’re talking a lot about diamonds, but if you’re one of those ladies that loves to think outside the box, we hear you. We’re big fans of mixing it up when it comes to your engagement ring – and that definitely includes looking into those “other” gemstones – from sapphires to rubies to emeralds and more. Yes, you can definitely show off your chic + sophisticated side with a choice that goes a little against the norm, like your birthstone, a gem that represents the month you were engaged or even something from your great-grandmother’s collection. Our tip? Don’t get caught up in what you “think” you should have – go with your heart and select the stone that best represents you and your love. (Like a champagne sapphire. We LOVE those.)

THE SETTING

Choosing your setting, diamond shape and style is truly where your personality will shine through, and it all starts with the setting. Whether you want your gem to sparkle as much as possible with a prong setting, love the look of a cathedral setting with the slopes on both sides, want to protect your stone at all times with a bezel setting or lean towards a more modern tension look (where the stone seems to hover), choose your setting first and the rest will fall into place. Because once you decide where your gem will rest, it’s easier to pick which of the NINE diamond shapes will look the best (round, cushion, princess, asscher, pear, emerald, radiant, oval and marquise) and which style will make that gem stand out – whether that’s three-stone, halo or something else entirely.

THE CROWN

So now that you have your gem, style and setting, it’s time to focus on the crown. Because you can’t spend all of the time in the world piecing together your perfect engagement ring and not make sure it’s safe. (Seriously.) But what is a crown exactly? Well, put simply: it’s the setting, plus the prongs. And we know you have a lot of options when it comes to metals, but honestly, we’re 100% platinum lovers for more than one reason. First, it’s stronger – which means better protection. Second, it requires less maintenance – which means zero trips to the jeweler to get your ring re-dipped. Third, it grows stronger over time – which means less worry on your part. And lastly, it’s brighter than white gold – which means a shinier, brighter diamond. You can’t argue with that.

Need even more tips on choosing the perfect engagement ring? Platinum Guild International is your place to go. They even have a handy ring buying guide that will have you walking into the jewelry store like a total pro. Do yourselves a favor and check them out before you go.

This Fall Barn Wedding is as Sweet as it Gets!

There really is something ultra romantic about an Autumn wedding, when the brisk air makes it’s debut and the leaves turn golden as they begin to fall. This bride always knew she wanted her wedding to be during this glorious time of year and who could blame her! With a neutral color palette, an insanely gorgeous venue, and eventing planning by Ang Weddings & Events, this couple’s rustic barn wedding was done to perfection. Browse the beautiful gallery below, all captured by James Anderson of Judy Pak Studios!

From the bride… I always envisioned my wedding in the fall around my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. I envisioned close friends and family, great food and a lot of dancing. And I always knew I would wear comfortable–yet stylish–shoes. My style was “elegant rustic” as coined by my cousin. My color palette was cream, pinks and pomegranate accents. I found a vintage, cream colored mailbox that we set up on a table for “notes to the bride and groom.” We had so much fun reading them the day after the wedding. I think our chuppah was a real highlight. For an indoor wedding we had a beautiful, wild chuppa made by Saipua and it was placed in the center of the room so the guests could surround us. The ceremony was our favourite moment. We spent a year thinking about it and planning it, even though it was only 30 minutes, it was very personal and we were able to incorporate various elements from the traditional to the modern and include our families and friends. It was also lovely to have the guests seated in the round with our chuppah at the center. We felt surrounded by so much love.

The flowers and candles all designed and arranged by Saipua were amazing. We could not have been happier with the gorgeous and wild arrangements that captured the season and the space we were in. And the venue itself, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, was incredibly beautiful. The acoustics in the hayloft were wonderful. The cake was provided by Blue Hill and it was traditional, simple and like the rest of the meal, completely delicious. It was Apple, Crème Fraiche, Vanilla Chiffon Cake. The dress was by Jenny Peckham from Gabriella Bridal Salon. It was super comfortable with gorgeous beadwork and a vintage feel. Alterations by Susan Ruddy who did all of my alterations at Gabriella. She also has her own studio, The Wedding Dresser, and I’ve since used Susan for other dresses and other occasions. She’s amazing. The venue, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, was a total dream. From the space to the service to the impeccable food, it was one of the first and best decisions we made. We had our program and day of signs printed by Lion in the Sun, from Brooklyn. They were friendly and easy to work with and delivered beautiful work on time. Our rings also came from Fitzgerald’s, a jewelry designer in Brooklyn.

Our photos were by James Anderson of Judy Pak Studios. We loved working with James and Judy and they were considerate and attentive to all of our requests. We had the most amazing DJ. Sean Marquand of 74Events. They were so wonderful to work with and everyone danced all night long. People still ask us about our DJ and playlist from the wedding. My hair color was by Cassie Coen of Sally Hershberger Uptown and hair and make up were by Gary Noble of NOBLE Salon in Stamford, CT. Gary and his make up artist, Erica, traveled to the venue on the day of while he also specially opened his salon in Stamford to my bridal party. The very first and best decision I made was to hire a wedding planner. I did a lot of research beforehand and met with several planners but when I met Tzo Ai of Ang Weddings, I knew immediately she was the planner for us. This was a gift to myself so I could enjoy the process and especially the day. Making sure you have someone by your side who understands your goals and tastes and can make recommendations for your vendors and handle all the logistics is such a gift and for us, was a worthy investment. In the end, she saved us time, money and allowed for total peace of mind.

13 Wedding Pros Share Their Royal Wedding Wishlist

When friends and family get engaged, guessing what their wedding will look like is a fun way to pass the time until the big day. That sentiment can extend to public figures, so it’s no surprise that people are delighting in the news of a royal wedding. With an American set to wed into the Royal Family, there’s a new level of excitement and questions on how the Harry and Meghan will blend their worlds.

Don’t expect to see them write their own vows, a commonality in American weddings. According to Babbel, the Church of England requires the ceremony to be conducted using a traditional set of vows. We’ll have the answers a few months from now, but in the meantime, we asked some wedding experts to provide their wishlist of what they hope to see. Read through for inspiration on your own nuptials.

“I would love to see a nod to Africa in the wedding. Through the years, Africa has been very important to both William and Harry, and the royal family. Maybe a small colorful hand-crafted card at the table setting announcing their support for Sentebale, a Botswana charity, founded by Prince Harry. Or perhaps using the colors of the Sentebale logo. Another option is to incorporate colors of the Botswana flag somehow (in the decor, or on the cake). The juxtaposition of the royal décor, blended with a pop of color and patterns from Africa could set new trends in festive décor and entertaining.” Cheryl Gentry, Glow Global Events

“My vision for the upcoming royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle is a mix between old Hollywood glamour and the classic regality of the British. Though it would be a daring choice, I can imagine Meghan in a flowy, flirty gown by Elie Saab that would show off her radiant smile. Prince Harry is a rebel and Meghan just exudes class. For them, a 007 inspired, art deco theme would show off their personalities and maintain a high standard of elegance. We’ve never had insight into the decor of a royal wedding.” Abena Patton, Abenafit Weddings & Events

“I’d love a bright, colorful bouquet. Since 1840, every single bouquet has included a sprig of myrtle from Queen Victoria’s garden. Because of that, bouquets have been primarily white for ages. Of course, we’ll see the sprig of myrtle, but I’d love it paired with colorful blooms.” Kylie Carlson, UK Academy of Wedding & Event Planning

“I want Meghan to opt for an ivory wedding dress because it complements her skin tone (as evident by the coat she wore during the engagement shoot!) and is a great option for a second-time bride. It allows her to bring in more traditional white tones while also remaining mindful of etiquette. Additionally, given this is her second wedding, it would be a conservative choice appreciated by certain naysayers. We have seen the blueprint for this, when Harry’s father, Prince Charles married Camilla. Camilla didn’t wear white and it went over well and looked great on her.” Jennifer Taylor, Taylor’d Events

“I would love to see them put a modern twist on the wedding and really allow their personalities to shine through. Their relationship and this engagement are a first for the Royal family with Prince Harry marrying a biracial American, and it would be a disservice if they overlooked Meghan’s heritage. With that in mind, I’d like to see a wedding day menu featuring Meghan’s favorites from the States, as well as global playlist for guests to dance to.” Kevin Dennis, Owner, Fantasy Sound Event Services

“At the reception, I want a Cirque du Soleil act showcasing their love story from the moment they met until the proposal. My dream dress designer would be Ellie Saab, who has a unique, one-of-a-kind style that would complement Meghan well. He’s not afraid to mix fabrics so I want a classic look with long sleeves that incorporates texture: be it imported lace, velvet or sequins.” Nahid Farhoud, Nahid’s Global Events

“Being based in New Orleans, I simply can’t help it — let’s skip the traditional open-air carriage processional following the ceremony and instead, incorporate a second line. Harry has always been the most fun member of the royal wedding — what a way to cement this reputation for the ages!” Emily Sullivan, Emily Sullivan Events

“I imagine, due to tradition and royal wedding protocol, there are many limitations on what Meghan can wear. But why can’t she vary things with a dramatic heel? Bright colors, fun details, lots of bling. Even if it only peeks out from the bottom of the gown, wouldn’t that be a great, modern twist?” Kim Sayatovic, Belladeux Event Design

“Fruitcake is the traditional wedding cake selection in the UK (and has been for years!), but it’s time to retire it. I want Prince Harry and Meghan to do a major pivot and select a sweet treat that can be equal parts dramatic and delicious, such as a croquembouche.” Heather Jones, Wente Vineyards

“I’d love more than anything to see Meghan walked down the aisle by both parents. It’s something I’m seeing more and more of and think it would be a modern update that won’t ruffle feathers. Also, all royal weddings feature [the bride wearing] a stunning tiara from the family collection. My vote for Meghan would be for the Burmese Ruby Tiara, which has 96 rubies set in gold paired with diamonds in silver. It would be a sharp contrast from other selections over the years. It’s time to bring in color!” Amy Kolodziej, Sunshower Photograph

“Since Harry is marrying someone from America, my biggest wish is that they incorporate some American traditions. For example, I would love to see them seal their marriage with a kiss at the end of their ceremony, versus on the balcony as is with tradition. It comes as no surprise that British designers are typically commissioned for the wedding gown but given Meghan’s American heritage, I would love to see a US designer brought on board, such as Vera Wang.” Becky Baker, Becky’s Brides

“I would love to see Meghan do two looks for her wedding day. One for ceremony to be a very proper, British inspired gown. For the reception, a true Boho California girl look.” Ashley Stork, Magnolia Vine Events

“The photographs that typically come out of royal weddings are pretty predictable- standard, fairly stiff portraits of extended family. Prince Harry and Meghan are, in part, helping to usher in a modern era and their photography should reflect that. I would love for them to release at least a handful of candid moments from the reception to help showcase the royal family in a new light. I want to see the happy couple enjoying their first dance, and of Prince Harry listening in on Prince William’s inevitable toast.” Keith Phillips, Classic Photographers

This Sunrise Elopement Is Giving Us All the Feels

Michelle and Dave’s gorgeous wedding just might go down in history as one of the sweetest days ever. All bright colors and stunning ocean views, they took their five-year engagement and made it official at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa with just their super cute daughter and their talented photog and coordinator, Melissa Mercado, at their side. It was a day that was all about the LOVE, and we can’t get enough of every heartfelt moment.

From Melissa Mercado PhotographyMichelle and Dave had been engaged for five years when the time was finally right to say “I do.” They had planned a vacation to one of their favorite corners of Mexico – Tulum. Michelle told me this about her original ideas: “We have always wanted something simple. We would like to make our marriage official and celebrate our vows with our daughter in a place we love before we start the next chapter of our life. We really want something simple on the beach, a symbolic ceremony that we can say our vows to each other.”

I offer Elopement Packages that include the ceremony, an officiant, flowers, champagne and, of course, the photography! They’re intimate ceremonies that I tailor to my clients’ desires. We arrange a time and location and then see what magic the universe brings us! We had to change last minute, as the weather wasn’t going to cooperate for a late afternoon affair. But it worked out amazingly as we got to witness an amazing sunrise and felt the universe really blessed this union in all of it’s gorgeous splendor.

I loved Michelle’s desire to have Avery, their 4-year-old daughter, be such an integral part of her day. I loved her flower choices, and love even more that their beautiful family of four was all present on this day (she was a few months pregnant when they said “I do!”).

Colorful + Chic Wedding in an Olive Grove

Beautiful shades of bright blue, colorful blooms and a fun octopus motif; a rustic elegant wedding with a dash of fabulous fun. And it all took place in a gorgeous olive grove in Greece. Pretty amazing, right? It’s no surprise that White Ribbon Boutique Events choreographed this celebration; it’s chic and stunning and the photos by 2Brides Photography showcase it all. From White Ribbon Boutique Events… They have been together for ELEVEN years. They met at the age of 18, the first year of university and fell in love. The bride pursued the groom and when he rejected her first invitation for a date, the bride, Courtney didn’t give up. They soon started dating, fell in love… and never stopped. After eleven years of life, travel, and love they have formed a true partnership.

In 2014 they spent a month traveling and sailing in Greece and absolutely fell in love with the culture, people and beauty and wanted to share this with their friends and family. So three years later, 80 of their nearest and dearest, gathered on the island of Paros in the Cyclades for a four day celebration.

Celebrations were kicked off with a welcome dinner at the picturesque Lefkes Village. The next day the group enjoyed a wine tour and tasting followed by a sunset cocktail in Naoussa Town on the waterfront.

The next day was the big day. The couple planned a first look followed by an intimate ceremony by the Cycladic cliffs performed by one of their closest friends and the groom’s mother. The cocktail hour was held under an aged plane tree with custom cocktails the couple had designed for their guests. The most spectacular setting was that of dinner, which took place on the olive grove of a private villa, with long Italian style tables and glistening lights decorating each olive tree.

The celebrations were concluded with a traditional boat trip ride to nearby islands the next day in the majestic Aegean sea.

This Portland Bridal Editorial Captures the Effortless Style of Paris

There’s something especially Parisian about this Portland bridal inspiration session, dreamed up and photographed by Silvius James.  Perhaps its Tendue’s walls which boast picture frame molding, the large windows that let in the most gorgeous natural lighting, the bride;s effortlessly chic bridal jumpsuit by Lena Medoyeff, or the purple hued palette (hello, Pantone color of the year!). Whatever it is, it strikes that balance between modern and romantic the French have absolutely mastered.

From Silvius JamesEditorial, modern, fresh – all words that describe this inspiration shoot. A new venue opened up in Portland, Oregon, and when I saw the simplicity of the white walls detailed with trim, I knew it was an opportunity to do something different and new. I pulled together an A-list of wedding vendors in the area and styled what I can only describe as a modern day victorian style.

Selva Floral created some unique, new-age florals in muted pastel tones and accented with lavender spray paint. She foraged the flowers and botanicals and created something truly unique and beautiful. My model, Kim, wore a stunning bridal jumpsuit from Lena Medoyeff Bridal, which was the perfect modern look for our bride. We also photographed a velvet gown from her new collection as well for the more traditional bride. Kelsey Malie Calligraphy created a custom suite with a mix of lavender and cream cotton papers and lavender ink. My favorite part was introducing some charcuterie boards by Lena Gladstone of Lena’s Kitchen. Her styling is amazing, and I had to have her be part of the shoot. I think it added another dimension to the shoot.
