Romantic Summer Wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek

If I lived in Virginia, I would have wed at The Mill at Fine Creek, I’m absolutely confident about that fact. It’s a wedding blogger’s dream come true, with an intimate ceremony spot and gorgeous greenery all around. Noi Tran captured it in all it’s glory for this adorable couple’s celebration – with a bit help from Matoli Keely Photography – and the Groom’s own company Munn Brothers filmed away. The man of the hour even got in a little action himself, filming his beautiful Bride; could we adore these two any more?

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/133454310 600 338]

From Noi Tran… Jonathan and Jordan tied the knot at the lovely Mill at Fine Creek. The historic windmill, or what’s left of it, makes the perfect charming background to say “I do.” I absolutely loved everything about J and J’s wedding. Not only did I get to capture this sweet story but I also got to work alongside The Munn Brothers Films. The Groom and his brother, also the Best Man, are two amazing talented videographers. Don’t worry, Jonathan did not actually ‘work’ on his wedding day but he couldn’t resist picking up the Super 8 camera and filming his lovely wife having fun amongst friends during the reception. The beautiful calligraphy was done by Jordan, the Bride! So we have a Bride and Groom who are both super talented and creative individuals. What an amazing beautiful wedding this was and I’m so glad I had the chance to be a part of it. The Mill at Fine Creek is a plethora of magical scenery!

From the Bride… Jonathan and I met a little unconventionally, but it’s my absolute favorite story to share. Last summer, I had posted a personal blog on my “new found contentment” with being single. About a week after posting it, Jonathan contacted me via Facebook message. I went to college with his sister-in-law, so when he had friended me months prior, I didn’t think anything weird about it. He was very sweet and complimentary, sharing how my writing had encouraged him. We soon went from brief, sporadic messages, to everyday, all day correspondence. A few weeks went by and he FINALLY asked to call me. It was and is the best phone call I’ve ever received. We met in person shortly after, and days after meeting began our relationship. It has been the most beautiful and romantic whirlwind.

Our wedding day was more perfect, wonderful and special than I could have ever dreamed. Jonathan and I chose to get married at the Mill at Fine Creek, in Powhatan, Virginia. And if I could do it all over again, I would choose it as our wedding venue every time! Our ceremony was held outdoors, on the most beautiful of days, facing the picturesque and historic ruins, for which the venue is known. The Pride and Prejudice soundtrack is one of our absolute favorites to listen to, so when it came to Processional music choices, it was an easy decision. As I walked out, arm in arm with my dad, I could see my sweet husband-to-be through the trees. I had never been so excited to see him, in that moment. I walked down to “Liz on Top of the World.” With eyes locked, and smiles that spread across our entire face, we knew that this would be the most important, memorable and impactful moment of our entire lives. We were blessed to be married by my almost lifelong Pastor, and family friend.

Our reception was held inside the venue, and was, in my biased opinion, the most beautifully decorated space I’ve seen. Everything I had ever hoped it would be, it was. Gold chargers, romantic votive lighting, simple, but detailed centerpieces made by Mary Jane Tropea, of LeRoy French Flowers, and 90 of our closest friends and family filled the room. Our guests were able to enjoy delicious appetizers before we were seated to eat an incredible dinner. The owner of the venue, not only grows her own herbs and seasonal vegetables, but she is the on-staff chef. Not long after dinner, the dancing started. Jonathan and I are not the best dancers in the world, but that didn’t stop us from dancing our little hearts’ out! It was a blast. We were able to have an anniversary dance, and dance along side a couple that had been married for almost 40 years, something truly inspiring. Next was the cake cutting; I am not a huge fan of cake, so I surprised Jonathan with a cake I knew he’d enjoy – a dark chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and buttercream icing. Our main desserts though, were assorted homemade pies by Lissy Tropea, of Pies + Petals. We finished the night off with dancing, and our guest lined up outside, LED sparkler wands in hand, for our send off. It was magical!

Bohemian + Romantic Great Falls Inspirational Shoot

I’m going to be dreaming of this inspiration shoot in Great Falls National Park. From Real Doll MakeupThe location of this shoot was selected because of its gorgeous falls and beachy shore line. This is a quiet, deserted area of the National Park that is completely covered with seashells and sand, a unique sight for an otherwise thickly forested area. This was the perfect location for the inspirational shoot because of the various terrain and gorgeous lighting during sunset hours. Many couples take their engagement photos at the popular park, however, this particular location really captures the beauty and whimsy of the National Park. Free People was chosen for the dresses, since it offered a laid back look for the setting. A leaf crown provided a fresh take on the flower crown and flowed beautifully with the long lace dress. We hope this shoot will inspire organic elegance for those planning their own engagement or wedding shoots.

Rustic + Elegant Fat Cat Farm Wedding

Wonder what makes a farm wedding feel magical? Take a peek at this elegant celebration at Fat Cat Farm in Virginia captured by Katie Stoops Photography. We’re in love with every detail, from the getting ready shots in the farmhouse to cocktail hour at the porch and dining alfresco with the most amazing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains—don’t miss a thing in the full gallery right here!

From Katie Stoops PhotographyAnna-Catherine & Teddy had their wedding at the stunning Fat Cat Farm in Scottsville, Va, which is right outside of Charlottesville. The girls got ready in a big farmhouse that was rented for the weekend for everyone to stay in. Bridesmaids chose their own dresses to make sure they wore something that they felt great in & fit the best. Their florals were elegant and polished yet fit perfectly into the rustic setting. Their favorite part of the day was enjoying their favorite cocktails & appetizers on the farmhouse porch following the ceremony. Anna-Catherine “felt so happy and loved having time for the two of us right after our ceremony”. They dined alfresco in a field looking onto the Blue Ridge Mountains and the gardens of FCF.

From the beautiful Bride… The advice I received and have given since to fellow Type A brides is the day of step back and enjoy the party, be your own guest, and stay focused on the excitement of being married. Little things will not be perfect or may go completely wrong but a wedding is one day and focusing on your life together gives perspective.

Modern Vintage Inspiration Shoot

A lush garden set amongst old mill ruins, this is what happens when you pair modern elements with vintage finds. And with Becca B Photography acting as the beauty behind the vision, it’s a day graced with geometric himmeli’s and ethereal elements. Married with meaning, the details are certainly chic and you can see them all in the gallery!

From Becca B PhotographyI originally came up with the concept for this shoot while talking with my mom about all the amazing vintage pieces she has and how I’d love to incorporate them into my more modern styled home. After bringing home a few special vintage pieces, it hit me that these two worlds really go together beautifully when styled right. I began making geometric himmeli’s to hang in my office and styled up a sweetheart table for fun and the inspiration for a modern vintage wedding came to life! With this amazing team of extremely talented vendors who helped bring this vision to life, I am so excited to share this inspiration shoot with you! It’s incredibly obtainable for the everyday bride with plenty of DIY pieces and special touches that any bride can make happen for their own big day without breaking the bank.

The lush green setting and old mill ruines at the Mill at Fine Creek along with modern accents (hanging himmelis, geometric decor pieces, clear acrylic chairs), combining copper/gold/silver decor pieces together, that paired perfectly with vintage pieces (table settings, glassware, vintage lace runner, etc.) and flowing greenery created a seriously ethereal day.

Backyard

From The Bride… Joshua and I worked at the same Chick-Fil-A through college and became great friends almost immediately. We both attended Liberty University. Having our ceremony and reception behind my parent’s home was a dream. It’s so meaningful knowing that every time we look out the window we can remember such a beautiful day. And that’s truly what it was. The overall vision was to really keep it romantic, elegant and natural. Not a lot of color because being an outdoor venue we wanted the greenery to blend naturally. For the ceremony, the tuscan arch and greenery accents were elegant, whispy and organic. It blended perfectly with the back drop of the river rocks and waterfall. The bridesmaids wore the soft blue and the groomsmen and groom wore navy blue suits.

Guests moved to the cocktail hour space which was more fun and laid back with cafe string lights and cornhole sets beaming our new initials and our alma mater. The tent looked amazing! The soft drape mixed with the evening candlelight glow made you feel like you were almost in Tuscany—the candles, lanterns and organic touches of greenery. We wanted to blend some of the black iron feel in, through the chandeliers adorned with modest greenery and the black iron lanterns in the centerpieces. The wooden welcome and seating signs were hand calligraphed and were adorned with greenery and flowers. The magnolia leaves as place settings were hand written by the Mother of the Bride. We wanted a letterpress invitation and was obsessed with a patterned envelope liner. The leaf tied in perfectly with the organic feel we were going for.

I am a twin, and my sister was my Maid of Honor. During the reception, my Dad gave a truly memorable speech about our story. While my Mother was expecting twins, she thought that she was having one boy and one girl. She already had our names chosen: one girl, one boy. When they discovered she was really having two girls, they knew the needed to come up with another girl’s name. Fast forward many years, they are both so incredibly happy to know that they now have a son also, my husband Joshua, which happened to be the exact name that they had chosen when she thought it was a boy!

Intimate Mountain-Top Elopement

A good elopement gives me chills. They just scream romance to me. Two people running off to say I do? It’s just dreamy. So when they bring along the likes of Josh Gooden to capture the perfection on film, I get all sorts of excited. This beauty of an elopement at Broadhead Mountain Retreat will surely make you smile, and you can see even more of their oh-so-special day from Anna Reynal here

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/126495673 600 338]

From The Bride…I didn’t always think that I would want to elope. It was something that I realized a couple of years ago, but before then I imagined I would do a traditional wedding with guests, tons of flowers (give me ALL the flowers), favors, dinner, brunch, bachelorettes and the whole nine yards. With Trevor and I both working in design and at times, a tad particular about aesthetics, it became clear at some point that it would be far too easy to get off track while planning a traditional wedding. It was really important that our wedding day be about the marriage and not about the place settings or the furniture rentals. Not that it’s wrong to be excited about those things. It is exciting! I’ll be the first one to say that I love a good wedding. We just decided that simple would be best for us. The moment anything became too stressful in our planning, it pretty much went out the window. I ordered my dress online for next to nothing and opted to do my own hair and makeup so that Trevor and I could just hang out together all day and keep things low-key. Eloping also allowed us to purchase a home right away, which is something that we ultimately decided was our first priority. Beginning with the end in mind and recognizing what would bring us long-term happiness was key in making this decision. Luckily, our families were incredibly supportive of our decision. We couldn’t have done it without them!

A lot of people have asked why we chose Charlottesville. We entertained lots of ideas for the location of the ceremony but we were both really happy with where we ended up. Charlottesville is an easy, three hour drive from our home in Baltimore, so it was just far enough away to feel like we were getting out of town, but close enough that we can go back and visit for anniversaries or just when the mood strikes us! The day was exactly what we hoped it would be, and we are so grateful to have these amazing memories to reflect on for years to come.

Romantic Vintage-Inspired Keswick Vineyard Wedding

With a romantic garden atmosphere, a handsome Groom (rocking pink tie made by his Mother-in-Law!), and an ombre of Bridesmaids in soft blush hues, and you know this winery wedding is going to be an affair to remember. Filled with vintage details, like antique rentals from Paisley & Jade, as well as fun, retro touches, like after-dancing donuts (!), we can’t get enough of Nikki Santerre‘s gorgeous gallery right here.

From Nikki Santerre PhotographyIntimate. Timeless. Romantic. Those are the words that come to mind when I think about Amy and Brent’s wedding day. Amy’s attention to detail were both exquisite and evident in every aspect of her day at Keswick Vineyard, the location of both their wedding and one of their first dates three years before.

From The Bride… Brent and I met twelve years ago at Virginia Tech. He was my first college crush but the timing was never quite right for us. A couple of relationships and eight years later, we reconnected at our friends’ wedding. A year later we went wine tasting with that same couple. The first winery on the tour was Keswick Vineyards. Little did we know we would be getting married at that same winery three years later!

After we settled on Keswick Vineyards as our location, everything else fell into place. The beautiful Edgewood Estate offered an elegant and classic backdrop that fit my style completely. I incorporated details that reinforced the vintage theme: low centerpieces in milk glass vases, old decanters and a wooden mantle at the altar. The neutral color palette with hints of pink and gold added a touch of classic romance and vintage furniture from Paisley and Jade helped tie the look together.

My bridesmaids looked beautiful in long chiffon mismatched Lela Rose dresses and I wore a Sarah Seven gown that Sarah herself helped me pick out! To add a personal touch, my mom handmade my belt and birdcage veil, as well as the ties for Brent and his groomsmen.

The best part of the day, by far, was our first look. Being able to see and talk to Brent before the ceremony helped calm my nerves. That quiet moment alone before walking down the aisle is something I will never forget!

The day was a whirlwind and the reception went by so quickly! We loved laughing and dancing all night with our friends and family. When they weren’t on the dance floor, our guests were relaxing on lounge furniture under bistro lights while they enjoyed the cigar bar and delicious organic donuts from Carpe Donut. We finished off the night with a sparkler exit and a getaway in a classic, vintage car.

We wanted our wedding day to be filled with love and laughter; the day to be romantic and classic, full of our favorite people and all of our favorite things. In the end, that is exactly what it was and every detail was captured perfectly by our amazing photographer, Nikki.

Elegantly Blush Wedding in Williamsburg

When I first opened this wedding, I had to sit down. I needed to go through every beautifully captured image from Michael and Carina Photography, because they each, somehow, kept getting prettier. This is a wedding that will sit with you for the rest of the day. From the sweet love that surrounds this couple, to the beautiful blush tones and everything in between – this wedding is everything.

From Michael and Carina PhotographyThis wedding means the world to us. Their wedding was a celebration of happiness after having overcome many challenges together, wherein they grew closer and became an absolutely inspirational couple.

Phoebe was glowing on her wedding day. She was one of the happiest brides we have ever seen! As she put on her stunning blush-colored Monique Lhuillier gown, everyone in the room began to whisper.

The soft color palette of blush, creams and gold fit the elegant feel of the day. Little details throughout the day showed how much thought and love the couple had put into their wedding day. As the bride loves lions, there were little lions to greet the guests on the placecard table. The couple even had two custom-made lion and lioness masks which made for some neat photos! The mismatched bridesmaids dresses and the lush florals complimented the clean and fresh spring look of Phoebe and Nathan’s wedding.

The ceremony was held outside near the river. As the sun was setting the groom picked up his bride and spun her around. They danced the night away and were sent off by their friends and family through a tunnel of sparklers. It was the perfect day. Filled with love and laughter. A true celebration of unconditional love…because love conquers all.

Romantic Italian Villa Wedding Inspiration

Sally Pinera describes this Bride she captured as blissfully content and in love, discovering the perfect place to say “I do” at this Italian-inspired villa. Her description alone drew me right in but then I fell into the gorgeous gallery, bursting with soft florals and a gown that becomes more enchanting at every glance, and I’m ready to play hooky the rest of the day and just soak in all this beauty. Don’t you agree?

From Sally Pinera… As she walks along the gardens of her Italian Villa, she realizes that her heart is full and this is where she belongs. A lover of romance and beautiful things, our bride knows this is the perfect place to say I do.

Our bride pulls inspiration from her home in Italy. With the natural colors of the cobble stones and the romantic feel of the ocean, she is inspired with a soft color palette of creams, blush and gold. She loves the classic look of crystal glasses, tapered candles and dainty accessories. She is beautiful inside and out and her wedding day showcases it all.

Inspired Romantic, Vintage Wedding at Braeloch in Roanoke, Virginia

With a color scheme inspired by peonies, hydrangeas and roses, sweet little DIY details tucked in every corner, and one cute as can be couple – this wedding captured by Melissa Durham Photography is infused with all the things we swoon over here at SMP. It’s image after image of pure pretty, and you can catch all the goodness here.

From Melissa Durham PhotographyKatie and Troy’s wedding day so beautifully inspired! From the beautiful peony, rose, and hydrangea floral color scheme to the vintage coral, peach, and gold DIY details, this wedding was absolutely perfect. Katie planned her wedding day with her mother, Shaye, all the way from Louisiana, where she and Troy currently live. Katie wore a beautiful beaded lace, mermaid gown from Celebration Bridal, and borrowed the veil her late best friend’s sister wore on her wedding day. Her bouquet was filled with white peonies, coral and peach roses, and baby’s breath and was decorated with lace from her mother’s wedding gown and her late best friend’s necklace. The wooded arbor was created by Katie’s uncles especially for this day, and the chandelier that hung from the center of the arbor was a 100-year-old family heirloom that was draped in coral and peach roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and green amaranthus. The reception tables in the bare wood cabin venue were decorated with gold chevron burlap runners, a variety of gold candle votive holders, damask table numbers, and milk glass vases and green mason jars filled with the peony, rose, and green amaranthus floral arrangements that lined the ceremony aisle. Vintage window panes were used to list menu items and specialty wines and drinks, and a S’mores bar was decorated with vintage candy dishes and details. Overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountain skyline at Braeloch in Roanoke, Virginia, the ceremony was absolutely breathtaking and perfectly timed after a late-afternoon Spring thunderstorm. The rest of the evening was an absolute blast – with great friends, wonderful family, and amazing dancing. People are still talking about the details of Katie and Troy’s wedding, and with all of the dedication and love that went into creating such a perfect day, I can see why!

Romantic Summer Wedding at Historic Whitehall Manor

Soft shades of blush and gray never fail to make me press pause and get excited for the beauty that’s about to unfold and Jodi Miller’s pics of this oh so sweet Virgina celebration do not disappoint. Every piece is perfection, from Growing Wild Floral Design’s lush creations to the bride’s style, from her sparkly shoes to the chic ‘do courtesy of Jewel Hair Design. See it all right this way!

From the Bride… Dave and I met in May of 2010, after my parents sat next to Dave on an airplane! That’s right, my mom introduced me to my wonderful husband after chatting with him on a flight back to DC. I still remember picking my parents up from the airport and spending the ride home listening to my mom telling me about this man she sat next to and how she thinks he would be my perfect match. Turns out moms know best and she was right! When Dave and I finally met, we felt an instant connection and after three years of dating, Dave proposed during a beautiful walk on Roosevelt Island with our dog. It was so personal and special and I loved everything about it. After the big proposal, he whisked me to the restaurant where we had our very first date to have lunch. The surprises continued throughout the night as our family and friends surprised me in joining us in a celebration at our house. It was the most perfect day…. besides our wedding day!

We live right outside of DC but Dave and I knew we did not want to get married in the city. One of our favorite things to do is to go wine tasting in the area, so we focused our venue search in the lovely and quaint area of Leesburg, Virginia. As soon as we drove up the long driveway to Historic Whitehall Manor, we fell in love and knew that that is where we wanted to say our vows to one another. I adored the beautiful outdoor space with the canopy of century old trees and spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Dave absolutely loved the charm of the 200 year old historic manor house.

As we started to plan, we knew we wanted our day to be classic, elegant and romantic without being too fancy (well, at least I did and Dave agreed!) and decided to have a blush, ivory and grey aesthetic with touches of champagne and silver. All throughout planning we asked ourselves if we would be happy with the decisions that we were making even years down the road. Looking back on our day, we wouldn’t change a thing!

All throughout planning, I was worried about the summer heat and humidity for our August 23rd wedding. Much to our surprise, our day was not hot or humid as the temperature was in the low 70’s, however, it POURED all morning and early afternoon. I vividly remember riding to our venue in the pouring rain, watching the windshield wipers flapping as fast as they could and all I could think to myself was “I don’t even care, today is the day I get to marry my best friend.” I think my positive thoughts paid off because the moment we pulled up to Whitehall Manor, the rain miraculously stopped and we got to have our dream ceremony under the beautiful century old trees just as we wanted.

We wanted our ceremony décor to be simple and elegant to not take away from the beautiful mountain backdrop. The gazebo was the focal point for the ceremony and was adorned with Baby’s Breath bouquets tied with a blush ribbon. A violin duet played some of our favorite love songs as pre-ceremony music to set a serene tone. As it was time for me to walk down the aisle with my dad, I was so excited that I actually forgot to put my veil on! I loved my veil so I still can’t help but laugh about forgetting it when I look back through our photos!

I walked down the aisle with my dad to Canon in D, a song chosen by Dave. During our ceremony, we had a “love letter” ceremony where we placed handwritten notes to one another in a personalized wine box. On our five year anniversary, we will open the box and drink the wine that we served at our reception while reading our letters that we wrote to one another. We chose to say traditional vows in front of our family and friends, but also wrote our own vows to read to one another on our honeymoon. We wanted that moment to be private and personal, which I loved! After we were announced as husband and wife, we walked down the aisle arm in arm while the violinists played “Hey Ho” by the Lumineers…. one of our favorite songs! This is one of our favorite moments of the day, and I think the photographs taken by the oh so talented Jodi Miller can prove that!

After the ceremony, guests could tour the grounds and manor house as they were served our signature cocktails and handpicked Virginia wines. Inside the reception space, I chose silver shantung linens, crystal pillar candleholders and mercury glass vases filled with blooms in white, ivory, blush and dusty greens to continue the soft color palette. We wanted to include some special touches in our wedding reception, including displaying three generations of family members wedding photos. My grandmother was not able to make the trip for our wedding so I fastened one of her broaches to my bouquet so that she was with me all day.

Throughout the night, guests enjoyed getting silly with the photobooth and props and the dance floor was packed with everyone dancing late into the night while listening to all of our favorite music. Later in the night, we surprised our guests by serving some late night sliders to help refuel after all of the dancing! Another favorite moment of the day was my first dance with my dad. We wanted our dance together to be a reflection of us, so halfway through our slow song the DJ cut to a more upbeat song that we could “break it down” to. My mom and sisters got up to join us and the rest of the guests weren’t too far behind them!

We knew we wanted our wedding day to be a celebration of our love but also a day filled with so much joy, love and laughter while being surrounded by all of our amazing family and friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day and are so thankful to our wonderful vendors for creating the wedding of our dreams and to Jodi and Kurt to capturing the entire day beautifully.

Romantic Hunt Country Wedding in Virginia

In my humble opinion, there is nothing more heartwarming than an intimate wedding. Take this romantic fete tucked away in the mountains of Northern Virginia. Complete with rolling hills, spectacular views and sunny yellow flowers, Kristen Lynne captured every detail right here!

From Kristen Lynne Photography….Tucked away in the mountains of Northern Virginia, Aden and Steve hosted their intimate wedding at the Goodstone Inn. The entire property was reserved for their family and friends as they celebrated over an incredible weekend.

Aden got ready in the gorgeous Manor House along with her bridesmaids and man of honor as her groom, Steve, got ready in the lovely Spring House. The spring sunlight filled the rooms as the excitement stirred up for the ceremony!

Aden and Steve said their vows with the rolling hills and Goodstone farm in the background. What a spectacular view for their guests on this perfect wedding day. Yellow sunflowers accented the bridesmaids blue dresses, which were the perfect match for Aden’s “something blue” Jeffery Campbell shoes!

The vintage equestrian theme was perfect for Aden’s style and paired seamlessly with the rural Hunt Country venue. The guests enjoyed an outdoor, tented cocktail hour followed by a lovely plated dinner and lots of fun dancing! As the sun set the lights under the tent came on and provided a romantic scene to wind down the evening.

Charming Southern Wedding on Virginia Horse Farm

There is nothing I love more than a good dose of Southern Charm. Especially when said charm involves a love story that originated on campus. Elizabeth Duncan Events planned a day imbued with significance as these Southern sweethearts wed at their college chapel. From the buried bottle of bourbon (to warn off rain!) to the Bride’s heirloom veilJodi Miller Photography snapped every whimsical moment, here!

From the beautiful Bride… Andrew and I both attended Washington & Lee University. We met at his fraternity party my sophomore year, when we both happened to be playing “wingman” for our respective friends. I thought he was cute, but wrote him off as just another football player who seemed like a bit of a jerk! Three years later, we ran into each other at a friend’s party in Washington, DC. We started dating soon after, and seven years, five jobs, a law degree (for me), and a CFA (for Andrew) later, we got engaged at Andrew’s family home in Hilton Head, South Carolina! My friends still love to tease me about my complete change of heart!

Having attended many weddings over the years, Andrew and I had grown to love the easy sense of intimacy and warmth that comes with a destination wedding. Something about gathering a group of friends and family in an unfamiliar place encourages everyone to really relax and enjoy themselves. We considered venues literally all over the U.S., but it was Andrew who suggested Lee Chapel, on our college campus, which dates back to 1868. I initially wrote off the idea as “cheesy,” but I am so glad Andrew prevailed! Lee Chapel’s history and simple, understated elegance made it the perfect place to exchange our vows.

I wore my mother’s cathedral length lace veil, which my wedding dress designer had made for her thirty years earlier. My older sister, Katherine, wore it for her wedding the year before, and my younger sister, Sophie, will wear it someday as well. The veil has a small tear in it from where my late grandfather stepped on it at my parents’ wedding day- such a small detail imbued with so much meaning.

Our ceremony music perfectly epitomizes our desired merger of the traditional and the whimsical. My father and I walked down the aisle to the very traditional Prince of Denmark’s March, played on the organ. After we were married, Andrew and I recessed down the aisle to The W&L Swing, our football fight song, sung by W&L’s male a Capella group, Southern Comfort. Almost immediately, our guests started clapping in time with the music. It was a complete surprise and ended up being the perfect transition from the solemnity of the ceremony to the lightheartedness of the reception! I think everyone walked out of the chapel with a smile on their face!

While our ceremony was timeless and traditional, the reception can best be described as a marriage of rustic and elegant, or as Andrew jokingly dubbed it, “Custom Suits and Cowboy Boots.” The idyllic landscape of Goose Creek Highlands, with its incredible views and traditional hunter green horse barn, made it an ideal setting for the reception.

Coming from Memphis, I fully embraced Southern tradition in many aspects of the wedding, such as the traditional Southern station-style dinner reception, our flower girls’ embroidered lace dresses and our ring bearer’s Eton suit. In keeping with southern tradition, to ward off rain on our wedding day, we buried a bottle of Andrew’s favorite bourbon upside down at Goose Creek Highlands exactly one month before the wedding day. It worked! We had absolutely beautiful weather, and Andrew dug up the bottle at the reception and all the groomsmen took a swig in celebration.

We ended the celebration with a “late night snack” of Grippo’s potato chips and chili dogs to represent Andrew’s hometown of Cincinnati, and everyone sporting our quirky monogrammed sweat bands as the band serenaded us with Proud Mary, our very favorite song!

From Alicia Lacey PhotographyMyself, the photographer, and our coordinator, Kat of Dear Sweetheart Events, designed this shoot together over the winter with the idea of a new beginning in mind. We knew we wanted to do something a bit unique and decided to focus on a bride preparing for her marriage with her loyal bridesmaids by her side. Our inspiration was the idea of a princess escaping the castle with her maidens and beloved horse to go finally marry the one she truly loves. It is only with the help of these three friends that she is able to have her day come together. We combined deep, rich purples to tie in the regal, storybook theme. Book pages could be found throughout on both the invitation suite and table setup.

Elegant Virgina Countryside Bridal Inspiration

With a variety of styles this stunning, how can you pick a fav? We have some Watters Bridal beauties and dreamy lingerie for our Bride to fawn over before heading outdoors to a countryside scene guaranteed to take your breath away. Gianny Campos captured every gorgeous glance created by Amore Events By Cody and this gallery is what I would describe as an absolute breath of fresh fashion air.

From Gianny Campos PhotographyThe inspiration for the stylized shoot is an elegant yet simple style for future brides. Veritas Winery & Vineyard was a perfect fit for the venue as it is filled with gorgeous scenery of the Virginia mountains and a stunning refined farmhouse building. Not to mention the bridal suite with all its mouldings and furniture that just makes the pre wedding images so romantic. Girl with a Serious Dream provided the most delicate and fine pieces for the pre wedding shots. The dresses were chosen from the classic line of Watters. An elegant A-line tulle gown along with an embroidered empire gown was used for each of our models. The direction we used for makeup was a very simple touch to accentuate the brides beauty while creating a soft and airy updo for both. Leann from Whimsical Florals tied in a lovely mixture of flowers to create an organic bouquet. The whites and the different shades of green just blended all the details of the shoot so well. The bouquet included: Amaryllis, Anemone, Eucalyptus, Orlaya, Garden roses, French tulips, Evergreens, and Berzillia berries. The simple colors and shades of white, ivory, and green displayed a timeless look for all weddings.
