Bumble Bees + Subtle Stripes for a Sweet Wedding Day

Inspired by the soft stripes found throughout The Omni Homestead Resort and the bumble bees found in the upholstery of the lobby chairs, Lemon & Lime Event Design created the most darling celebration for this Southern couple. From the vintage bee pins to the Hayley Paige gown (another nod to the stripes!), Lisa Ziesing for Abby Jiu Photography was there to capture every inspired detail. Plus, Monachetti Weddings caught the whole day on film, but we’re warning you –  it’s sweeter than a peach.

From Lemon & Lime Event DesignA Virginia gal and a Kentucky gent meet in…Baltimore!? Our southern clients, now living up North, paid homage to their roots in a lovely June Southern celebration at The Homestead Resort in Virginia. The bride, Whitney, grew up vacationing at The Homestead with her family, so it was more than a wedding venue, but a place that already held decades of traditions for her and her family. The groom, Kelly, is a golf pro, so it worked out very well with The Homestead having a great course. We also incorporated vintage golf stamps and custom Under Armour hats made for the tournament held the day before the wedding.

Whitney owns Bella Bridesmaids in Baltimore, so we’ve known and worked with Whitney for years. When she reached out for us to plan her wedding, we couldn’t have been be more excited. She has helped so many of our brides put together the look and palate for their bridesmaid dresses and now it was her turn. She carefully selected the most lovely palate for her bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, and flower girls, mixing green hues with the littlest ladies in floral prints.

We pulled in elements of the Homestead throughout the design to honor some of her favorite memories and details found around the resort. The bees (found in the upholstery in the lobby chairs, which she loved as a kid) in addition to soft stripes found throughout the resort on couches and wallpaper became the driving factors of the design. The bride also chose her gorgeous Hayley Paige gown based off those stripe accents as well. Photosynthesis floral brought our vision to life so perfectly with her bright and beautiful blooms. One of our favorite details was the boxwood bees she created for part of the cocktail hour space. The invitation suite from Anchor Point Paper was one of Whitney’s favorite details, and she collected vintage golf and bee stamps for months in addition to vintage bee pins!

The forecast was calling for rain during the ceremony, so we made the call to move inside. Although that rain never ending up happening, between the natural lit space at The Homestead and Photosynthesis’s florals down the aisle and surrounding the bride and groom, it made for the most beautiful Plan B!

The couple’s custom crest was used throughout the wedding and we gave this classic detail a bit of a twist and used the crest in 3D form at the ceremony and on the cake. We also had Lumina Embroidery recreate the crest onto napkins for the sweetheart table as a surprise to the couple!

Lisa from Abby Jiu Photography captured the day so beautifully, and we’ll never tire looking through her stunning images. Lisa perfectly styled and captured all of the details that were so important to the bride.

A bit about that cute little pup cake topper…

Edibles Incredibles in Reston, VA designed the cakes…small playful cakes on each table that were all decorated differently. They were adorned with rainbows, smiley faces, flowers, and swirls. The bride and groom had a slightly larger cake on their sweetheart table that was topped with a dog, that looked just like their dog at home, Kingston. They wanted a way to include him in their day.

Too, too cute. We have a really fun announcement coming up next, so stay tuned!

For me, the sign of a great wedding is one where you can just tell the bride is having fun. Today’s beautiful bride, literally kicked off her shoes and danced the night away…a complete party! I love that.

From Kate Triano, the oh-so-talented photographer that captured these joy filled images…

The light coming in during the ceremony was perfect. The room had soft candlelight and beautiful chandeliers as well. Once Ashley’s Dad walked her down the aisle, Ashley kissed Matt. It was such a sweet beginning to the ceremony!

Love, love, loving today’s real wedding…filled with gorgeous jewel-toned details, a perfect bride and an eclectic wedding style. It’s really refreshing to see a bride completely embrace her own style and design a wedding that envelops who she and her fiance are as a couple.

Kate Triano sent us this gorgeous wedding and if you haven’t already totally fallen for her style, you will after you see this next round…

The bride told her attendants to choose a dress of their liking from anywhere they pleased, as long as it was a peacock hue. Fabulous. Kabloom designed all of the flowers, accenting the gorgeous colors with peacock feathers. It’s funny…the wedding has this really eclectic, anything goes vibe and yet it still feels really cohesive. It isn’t match-matchy or over styled. You can just tell that it’s a reflection of the bride!

Oh and if you haven’t already checked out the ridiculously gorgeous Texas wedding on the Little Black Book Blog…it’s a MUST. The dress is insanely beautiful and the photography by D. Jones will make your heart skip a beat! See the posts here and here.

Real Wedding: Ashley and Matt, II

I knew the shoes on the last post would get everyone excited…but, for me, it’s the absolutely lovely bride and her eclectic, vintage chic style that really soars in this wedding. She just seems like the kind of girl that I would want to be friends with…one who has her own sense of style, her own unique perspective.

By the way, the shoes were actually bought on the fly from a clearance rack at DSW! Again, SO the kind of girl that I want to be friends with!

From the FABULOUS photographer that sent us these images, Kate Triano

There was no official timeline, no formal shot list, nothing rigid. They wanted everyone they loved to show up, relax, have fun, and PARTY! Ashley is a hair stylist, and altogether the most stylish person I know. I was so anxious to see what wedding gown she chose. I knew it would be simply beautiful. There were no big princess gowns for this bride! When I finally saw the dress, blue shoes, and the amazing birdcage veil I was elated! She looked so amazing. Her girlfriends who work in the beauty industry as well did her hair and make-up on their private porch that was attached to the guestroom.

So much more to come!

Real Wedding: Ashley and Matt

Today’s wedding is a little off the beaten path of what I normally feature on SMP, with a jewel-toned color palette and a chic vintage style, but I thought it was so beautiful that I just had to share. Plus, the bride is just so ridiculously gorgeous, it’s hard not to fall in love with her!

Ashley and Matt were married this past November at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. She wore a Marisa gown from Jeanettes Bridal in Manassas and a birdcage veil from the same store (brand unknown). The fabulous photographer, Kate Triano, has been sweet enough to give us a backstage look at the gorgeous affair…

Ashley and Matt are the most fun and laid back couple I’ve had the pleasure of working with. They met and fell in love in highschool. After a brief college separation, they have been together ever since. Their wedding weekend (Thursday-Sunday) was at the Homestead in rural Hot Springs, VA. The 3 days involved a trip to the Natural Hot Springs up the road (owned by the Homestead, every President since the 1800’s has been there to be rejuvenated by their natural soothing water), Golf, Spa, Bowling, rehearsal and dinner, all on location. The venue was astonishing in size and beauty. Everyday we all went to the large breakfast buffet in the great ballroom. This made myself and my associate photographer fast friends with the bridal party and all the family as well.

So much more to come!
