Steal a Fashion Blogger’s Modern Wedding Style

From Jacqui Cole Photography…You may remember Ana and Tim from their engagement session featured here on SMP. Ana met Tim, a professional tennis player, at the Four Seasons Resort while Tim was in town for a tennis tournament. The couple wed 2 years later at the exact spot which they had fell in love.

Ana and Tim wanted to capture a glamorous winter wonderland at the Four Seasons venue. They wanted to create an evening that all of their guests would remember. The many ‘wow’ factors certainly achieved that! From a surprise mariachi band, confetti bombs, fireworks show and a late night taco stand the couple created an incredibly fun night for their family and friends. Ana said that “it was a dream come true to see our vision of an elegant, romantic, candle-lit winter wonderland come to life with all our closest family and friends. The whole day is a memory of overwhelming love and happiness”. Guests were treated to little surprises such as personalized slippers to dance the night away and a Mexican candy bar which were a ‘sweet nod’ to Ana’s heritage.

The reception decor was extraordinary, There were no details that were overlooked. From draped columns, floral covered entryways, mirrored facades, flower halos and beautiful centerpieces. Flowers draped everywhere with the focal point being the floral chandelier which hovered over the dance floor. The guests entrance was covered in stunning white flowers. The white roses were suspended from the top of the windows to make it seem like they were floating.

Ana and Tim left hand in hand under an aisle of confetti. They jetted off to Napa to enjoy their honeymoon the very next day. We wish them all the love in the world! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Smyczek!

From the Bride… After the proposal, which you can read all about here, as we began the wedding planning, the first and most important thing for us was the location and venue for our big day. We wanted to get married somewhere that was special and meaningful for us so where better than where we very first met – The Four Seasons in Dallas, which also happens to be my home town and where we got engaged! I’ve always dreamed of having an elegant and romantic wedding with a candle-lit ambiance to create an intimate and cozy feel. The time of year we got married, a chilly November day, was the perfect way to turn my wedding dream into a timeless winter wonderland.

Looking back at our wedding day, my heart is overwhelmed with countless moments but there is one moment that will stay with me forever – my Father-Daughter dance. It started with a tearful slow song and towards the end of the song, much to my fathers surprise, we transitioned to a fun Spanish song with confetti showering the entire dance floor! The confetti was such a special moment, giving my dad and I another moment to celebrate together as we opened up the dance floor for the festivities to begin!

The best advice I can give any bride-to-be would be to enjoy and cherish every moment – from the moment you say “yes!” to the moment you say “I do”. A fun tip for the big day; as Mr. and Mrs., take a moment to look around at your reception, to embrace how the vision of your big day all came together and to see all of your loved ones together in one place celebrating you!

From the bride, Lauren… Charles and I met eight years ago as Freshman in college. It wasn’t until I moved back to Dallas from Los Angeles that we began dating. We knew immediately that our connection was something special and we have been inseparable ever since! He proposed at a Dallas landmark, Reunion Tower, during dinner overlooking the city. He included my absolute favorite flowers on the proposal, pink peonies, that floated over to our table on the rotating exterior of the restaurant. It was an incredible moment and I blissfully said, “Yes!”. As if this wasn’t enough excitement for one night, he planned a surprise party after dinner with our closest family and friends.

Charles and I were both born and raised in Dallas so we knew we wanted to get married here. I had my eye on the Joule Hotel in downtown but really wanted an outdoor ceremony and reception. The Joule accommodated by letting us be the first and only wedding reception to ever be held across the street in the Eyeball Garden. We knew that getting married outside in Texas Was a risk but the weather could not have been more perfect for our rooftop ceremony and garden reception on April 30, 2016.

We’ve always loved a mix of classic and modern design which we created by using all white elements, lucite accents along with gorgeous, lush white floral. Detail is also very important to me so with the help of our exceptional planner, nothing was overlooked! Our dog, Bandit is very special to us and was actually the ring bearer in our ceremony. Additionally, we had an artist sketch his profile which was included in the reception paper goods like the coasters and bar menu. We were so happy that our guests loved the excitement of the black tie evening as much as we did and together, we all danced the night away under the stars. The juxtaposition of a white garden party in the middle of a Metropolitan city made for the most spectacular evening that we’ll never forget!

As a fashion blogger picking out my dress was a really fun but nerve-racking process. I ended up selecting a custom Mira Zwillinger blush dress with hand embroidered white flowers on the bodice, a layered tulle skirt, and the daintiest blush organza bow. When the seamstress added the bustle beneath the tulle, it was visible. I ended up forgoing the bustle in favor of having someone (a professional!) cut off the train of my dress after the ceremony and before I entered the reception. It was the best decision I could have made – I felt so free to dance the night away with all our family, friends, and now husband!

Charles wore a custom J. Hilburn Midnight Blue tuxedo stitched with our wedding date, 4.30, and his initials. The process of creating his tux together and picking out each design option made it such a fun experience for both of us. The team was amazing to work with and I couldn’t recommend them more.

As special as it was to create a vision for our wedding day and watch it come to life, marrying my soul mate was truly a gift. The amount of love and joy given to us by our family and friends is such a blessing and we couldn’t be more thankful!

The detailing on the bodice and the full skirt was breathtaking and we love how she paired the gown with a soft classic look for her hair, so chic! The floral was amazing and the perfect color scheme to keep things elegant and blend with the country club beauty. From the overall style and perfectly soft color palette of the wedding, to the gorgeous setting and sunset on the golf course, it was a magical day. They finished out the evening with one of our favorite bands performing for the reception and as you’ll see it was one heck of a party!

With The Wildflowers and the helm and Kayla Barker Fine Art Photography capturing every look from Brittany Jones and bloom via Bows and Arrows, we’ve got every gorgeous bit waiting for you to favorite in The Vault!

From The Wildflowers…With a venue like Bass Performance Hall, any wedding becomes magical. Fort Worth’s opera house-style concert hall is a historic city gem, adorned with angels, intricate domes and windows, and gold accents. To offset the extravagance of Bass Hall, we chose simple but sumptuous styles. The bride’s off-the-shoulder gown had just enough structure to match the strong architecture around her, while still adding a feminine fluidity. Her Old Hollywood hair, shaped into a low sculptural chignon, was a daring yet classic choice. Gorgeous ribbon from FrouFrou Chic and a vintage ring from Trumpet and Horn were perfect touches to complement the antique feel of the venue. And as a final elegant detail, the bride’s hair was adorned with a veil, then a green and cream floral hairpiece.

The light, airy, and impressive interior of the hall was our inspiration for the bright, open blossoms in bouquets and table arrangements created by Bows and Arrows. Chairs and linens in a stark white echoed the stately venue and let the flowers take center stage. Cascading greens crossed tables, and sweet pink florals were a playful and organic contrast to the otherwise proper place settings. For even more visual interest, we chose both taper and pillar candles, as well as minimalist table numbers by Alli K Design that featured whisper-thin floral illustration. Kayla Barker captured all of this in stunning photos that harnessed the sunlight beaming through Bass Hall’s windows.

From the Bride… As any newly engaged couple knows, the excitement of the engagement can quickly be overshadowed by the planning phase of the wedding. Jared and I had talked about where we wanted to get married. We both loved the romantic, rustic feel of the Big Bend area, so we knew that Lajitas would be the place to get married, after all, that’s where our story began,

I didn’t have a specific theme in mind when we first started planning. I knew, however, that I wanted to stay true to the beauty and simplicity of the desert surroundings. My mother and I spent countless hours looking on websites and thumbing through magazines to get inspiration. Anyone who knows my Mom knows what I mean when I say we spent hours, days, weeks, searching. Finally it happened, that ONE piece that would bring together the entire event. A simple post card with two donkeys nuzzled up next to one another with a beautiful mountainous desert scene in the background. The postcard was titled, “Desert Sweethearts”. With that in hand, and mind, everything we searched for and planned on from then on, revolved around the colors and scenery of that post card. Planning a wedding is stressful.

Planning a destination wedding can put even the most organized person to the test. Once we had our vision, we knew it was time to enlist the help of some experts. It is the people behind the scenes that help make the big day magical and go off without a hitch. All the little details that bring it all together, the invitations, the photographer, the head organizer, the florist, the baker, the rentals, the food, bartenders, makeup artist, hairdresser, the list goes on. We teamed up with an amazing design and floral team to make our vision come to life…Enter the talented design team of Magic Hour Marfa and Floriography Flowers! This dynamic duo dreamed up all of perfect details…everything was pure perfection. The southwest inspired floral palette included locally harvested blooms and branches like Trumpet vine, honeysuckle, chamisa, palo verde, pomegranate branches along side romantic booms like peonies, ranunculus, garden roses and tulips.

An artisanal welder out of Marfa, TX fabricated the ceremony arch which perfectly framed the majestic mountain vista just across the border. The most beautiful location to say “I do”. Large locally made tables elegantly lined a mesquite post colonnade with hanging floral installations supported by vintage barnwood planks and rustic lanterns that gracefully floated above our heads during dinner. The tablescapes were elegant and colorful with a nod to the romantic desert our guest were dining in. Terra cotta chargers and turquoise napkins perfectly complimented the sarape-esque table runners. There was a huge stage backdrop with thoughtfully incorporated items our family had been collecting through our travels across Texas like vintage lanterns, cow skulls, rugs and Mexican blankets. Floriography incorporated locally harvested flora like prickly pear cactus, pomegranates, chamisa and cholla cactus to create sculptural elements for the cake table, escort card display and stage facade. The party organically flowed down to the stage area after dinner and enjoyed and amazing concert by my favorite band, the Mike Ryan Band.

One of the most important aspects of wedding planning, I think, is choosing a photographer. What some don’t take into account is that the wedding photographer may be the MOST important aspect. They should understand your vision and be able to work well with the different personalities of your bridal party and family. We knew without a doubt that Brittany, with Brit Jones Photography was just the one for us. After looking through her website I fell in love with her work. All of her images were so light, bright, airy, and natural. Exactly the look and feel I wanted so badly for our wedding. One of my favorite moments that our wedding photographer, Brittany, captured was our First Look…in the exact spot where we first laid eyes on each other, just four and half years earlier.

The scene had been set and all the details were falling into place, but what is a wedding without friends and family there to share the special moment. Again, details. We had bags printed with the same scene from the post cards, the two donkeys. Inside the bags, we put a variety of snacks and goodies for the guest to enjoy, all staying true to our theme. We even had little koozies printed by a local business, Hodgepodge, so guest could keep their drinks cool and have a souvenir. Friends and family were given the bags upon check in. There was also an itinerary of the weekend events, so all our guest would know where to be, and when. When you are bringing two families together, you want everyone to get to know each other in a relaxed environment. We had guests who traveled from all over Texas and parts of Oklahoma.

When I look back on the day, some of it seems a blur. It was the little things that stick out in my mind that made the day special. I only had four bridesmaids, two of my sisters, my best friend, and my God Sister. My youngest sister and my Niece were the flower girls and my Nephew was the ring bearer. Sharing this day with my closest family and friends is something I will never forget.

Wedding Inspiration That’s All About Bringing the Garden Inside

Blooming with beauty, that’s what we’ve aptly named this inspiration from Apryl Ann Photography. Because when you combine the true talents of The Wildflowers and Bows and Arrows, you know you’re in for a terrific treat. Enter peonies as big as plates and the prettiest way to bring the outdoors in for your big day. Get inspired and be sure to see it all for yourself in The Vault!

From Rebecca Marin with The Wildflowers… In this dreamy growing garden wedding, we let florals run wild. The flowers, leaves and vines that enveloped the space were as beautiful as they were untamed– a far cry from traditional tightly-bunched white blooms. A palette of cream, yellow, pink, merlot, and tiny touches of green and lavender was present in the flowers, as well as in the cascading Frou Frou Chic ribbon, the naturalistic tablescapes, and the Bonne Nouvelle paper goods.

The bridal beauty looks were undone, effortless, yet sophisticated. The first bride piled her natural curls into a messy chignon, so that the delicate florals and translucent back of her gown could take the stage. The other sported a loose fishtail braid, an ethereal flowing dress, and dewy lips and lids. Little petals and leaves wove throughout their hair as though they had fallen from the arrangements around them. Our brides’ rings, both by Shapiro Diamonds, were modern yet elegant. One boasted an unconventional light-catching yellow diamond that bounced the sun onto a loosely draped bouquet; the second featured a sparkling white diamond in a dainty gold setting. The full effect of these bridal portraits, captured by Apryl Ann Photography, was one of regal beauties who had escaped their big days for a quiet moment among blossoming plants and sun-drenched tile.

Outside, the reception table was shaded by a vine installation mimicking the soft lines of the leafy overhead branches. The florals, by Bows and Arrows, included dozens of tiny vessels, each containing its own arrangement of just a few flowers and leaves. Paired with varying heights of candles, the flowers created an eye-catching multilevel centerpiece. A few blossoms topped the atypical yet playful strawberry cream cake. The neutral gray wooden table and blush-colored chairs, as well as the simple white plates and antique-looking glasses, formed a perfect blank canvas to showcase the florals’ natural beauty. In all, the just-foraged look of the plants and decor created a romantic authenticity that resembled an intimate, elevated estate wedding.

3 Dresses, A Dream Chateau, And Happily Ever After

If you’ve got a weakness for designer fashion, just wait until you lock eyes with this wedding. “In Asian tradition, the bride normally changes dresses a few times during the day…and we decided to split the day into three portions with a dress for each; the ceremony, the reception, and dancing,” said the bride. Hey Lovely Makeup worked their beauty magic, Jenny Yoo dressed the ‘maids, and the incredible Kayla Barker and Brighter Lights Media captured the fairytale day from beginning to end.

From the Bride…Ever since I was a little girl living in Saigon, I always dreamt about my big day. Back then, when someone got married, the whole village would come out into the street and cheer on the bride on her way to the wedding. I imagined that those girls must have felt like a celebrity with everyone yelling compliments at them and I looked forward to the day it would be me.

When I was 12, my family moved from the bustling city streets to the rolling hills of Texas. The next several years were a struggle for me. I never quite fit in and I longed to leave and move back to a big city but I couldn’t seem to find a way out until 2010 when I tried my chances on Match.com and met Jason who was living in England at the time. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Nobody understands me like he does, and he knew I’d been planning my dream wedding for years. So when we got engaged, he promised me he would make my dreams come true.

In Asian tradition, the bride normally changes dresses a few times during the day. We decided to dispense with the traditional tea ceremony and so we decided to split the day into 3 portions with a dress for each; the ceremony, the reception, and dancing.

It first became real when we took a trip together to Dallas and chanced upon the Carolina Herrera Bridal Boutique in Highland Park Village. I remembered a dress from a previous collection and the moment I tried it on, Jason told me “That’s it, that’s the one, that’s your wedding dress.” Carolina Herrera once said “A wedding dress is both intimate and personal for a woman- it must reflect the personality and style of the bride.” With cherry blossoms embroidered into the front and around the fringes of the veil, paired with the cherry blossom hair-ornament I bought from Japan, my dress makes me feel proud to be Asian and drove our ceremony to be inspired by hanami, the Japanese tradition of dining under the blossoming trees.

For my second dress, we chose a beautiful Dolce and Gabbana dress that Jason had bought me as a gift when he moved to be with me from England in 2012. I love theatre and the arts and the lavish red velvet reminded us of the Royal Opera House. We found a pair of Dolce and Gabbana gold cage heeled shoes to match it and these became our theme for the reception: theatrical reds, golds, and cages filled with roses.

Because Jason is half Spanish, I decided to look for a flamenco inspired dress for the dancing. I searched online and came across a runway piece a couturier in Seville, the home of flamenco, called Jose Cañavate. He had made it as a one off piece, only buying enough material for the one dress, so he spent months trying to get the floral organza remanufactured until one day he happened across a bolt of the original material in a small fabric store in Madrid. In all the dress took a year to make and I completed the look with a Spanish hair comb and Dolce and Gabbana cinderella shoes.

From the start, we planned to have a black-tie wedding so Jason bought a Balenciaga tuxedo, but after seeing my wedding dress for the first time he decided to find something that would represent his English heritage more as well. So he had a morning suit made to measure by Ralph Lauren.

With all the dresses underway and inspirations in our mind, we set about looking for a venue (and a date!) and after searching far and wide we found Chateau Cocomar in Houston to be unique in its old world French exterior and wide open interior spaces gave us the canvas to explore our imaginations.

The event was filled with personal touches and design details. Jason wasn’t just going to make my dreams come true – he went above and beyond. He sketched out many of our ideas for key features in the wedding, including the “bird-cage” we sat under, the centerpieces on the tables, the layout of the venue and he even hand wrote and embellished the place-cards. He also drew and designed my wedding rings himself and had them made by the same jeweler as my engagement ring, Boodles of London. In return I chose his ring, a platinum band from Harry Winston engraved with “Happy wife, Happy life.”

When we moved to California, I understood that none of this would ever have been possible if we hadn’t lived in Texas. We’re proud to call Texas home and decided to show our love and appreciation in the form of a few decorative details for all our guests to see. We have both spend a huge amount of time and effort on this wedding and there has been no shortage of drama; vendors dropping out, moving homes (twice) and even the venue getting flooded a week before the wedding. All of these challenges brought us closer together, made our love stronger and made us all the more proud and happy to see it all come together on the day.

Art-Deco Wedding Inspo That Brings the Outdoors In!

Whoever said you can’t have it all cleary hasn’t met the visionary that is Rebecca of The Wildflowers. Because this mastermind of creativity has managed to bring the outdoors IN and it’s got us to a point where we’re ready to bid adieu to alfreso and hello to architecture. Kayla Barker Fine Art Photography has snapped it all to share and we’ve got every bit of beauty waiting for you (like those Bows and Arrows florals) in The Vault!

From The Wildflowers…When faced with the perplexing problem of outdoor vs indoor, the answer is: “why not both?” Bringing the outdoors in is one of my favorite ways to design with intention, leaving the worry of uncontrollable weather behind. Being surrounded by such lush greenery, the smell of just-bloomed florals, and the glow of romantic candlelight creates a sweet, magical setting. This shoot shows just that. Bows and Arrows communicate the idea of a lush, overflowing garden in their table garland, growing wall installation, and cake table flawlessly. The wildness of the florals is counterpointed by the design of the table, adding a structured, polished facet. Continuing the theme of wild and polished juxtapositions is the bride and groom. The bride’s Tara la Tour gown looks fit for a princess, but with a closer look, you see the detail of polka-dotted strokes of tulle. The groom’s ASOS suit is well-fitted and proper, though there is an unexpected, vibrant blue hue. A couple of rebellious, yet conscious details that make up a very fun and beautiful scene.

A Halloween Wedding Done Oh-Sooo-Right

These two cuties didn’t plan for a Halloween wedding, but when October 31st was the only date that worked, they embraced it whole-heartedly. The results? Absolutely stunning. From the lush florals from TODD Events to the soft, romantic color palette, this is a day that proves Halloween celebrations don’t have to be even the least bit spooky. College Sweethearts Say I Do with This Ultra Glam Clear Tented Wedding

From The Bride…We didn’t mean for our wedding to be on Halloween night, but that was the only available day in October for all of our vendors, so we went for it. We’re so glad we did! Having our wedding on Halloween added so much fun and festivity to the whole event. Everyone changed into costumes for the reception, we had fake skeletons at the dinner tables, and we ended the night doing a waltz as Cinderella and Prince Charming, followed by a getaway where we got covered in silly string by our guests! It was definitely a night to remember.

For design, I really wanted my wedding to be organic, natural and timeless. I’ve always loved wild flowers and Todd Events did an incredible job incorporating that look into all of our florals. Gray pumpkins added a tasteful touch of fall, and soft neutrals (greens, whites, grays) with hints of blue and coral made everything classy but still fun.

Overall, we just wanted our wedding to show our personality. That’s my biggest advice to brides. Whatever your passions, quirks and gifts are as a couple, incorporate those into your special day. Don’t be afraid to be unique and think through all of the details. A few examples: my husband loves dinosaurs, so I surprised him by having our baker make bride and groom T-Rex’s for the groom’s cake topper. He loved it! We’re both very family-oriented, so instead of a Maid of Honor, I had my two brothers as Men of Honor. One of my brothers co-officiated the ceremony as well. Lastly, we’re both huge lovers of food and wine, so we created a wine pairing dinner menu for our reception. We just wanted everyone to share in our passions that night.

A Colorful Country Chic Summer Celebration

From the Bride… I met Esteban at SMU in 2007. I was a Freshmen and he was a Sophomore. Esteban played for the SMU Men’s Soccer Team, and one of my very best friends that I met my Freshmen year (who was also one of my beautiful bridesmaids) played for the SMU Women’s Soccer Team. We were introduced by her in front of Dallas Hall on SMU’s campus in between classes one day – and we immediately had a special connection. He asked me out several times throughout that first year, but I continually said no. Whoops! Along came my Sophomore year, and Esteban and I were in several classes together. He made it a point to find a seat near me every single day. We didn’t end up dating or hanging out until the end of my Sophomore year at SMU (almost a year later) after I finally said YES to a library date. Little did I know seven years down the road, Esteban would be getting down on one knee to propose to me in front of Dallas Hall, the very place we first met. It was one of the most special days of my life. We always laugh because we had so many times in our lives where our paths could have crossed, ie. mutual friends, or both playing competitive soccer in Dallas…. But they never did. I guess Dallas Hall was the place where we were meant to meet and I’m so very happy we did!

Since Esteban and I were both Dallas born and raised it only seemed fitting that we get married at one of our most favorite places in Dallas, Arlington Hall. There is something so magical and classic about this venue. Our day was absolutely perfect – blue skies, not a cloud in the sky, and perfect temperature for a Dallas March wedding. Not sure how we got so lucky! But more importantly we had all of our loved ones there to celebrate with us – and lets just say all of our loved ones are a REALLY good time. Esteban and I both love the outdoors and had always envisioned getting married outside. I am also a lover for interior design and color so I wanted something that felt like you were at someone’s home. Everything from the clear dinner tent with the twinkly lights and chandelier above, to the amazing sit down dinner, to the gorgeous flowers covering the whole venue to the beautiful furniture and dining tables was out of this world. We felt like we were living in a Restoration Hardware ad/show room…. but better! Esteban and I are also big dance floor fanatics. We love getting down to awesome music. Jordan Kahn went above and beyond. It was honestly difficult to get everyone off the dance floor after the night had concluded. It was a dream come true. If I had to describe our day in one word it would be “MAGICAL”. It truly was one of the most amazing, breathtaking and beautiful days of our lives. It will be a day that we will cherish forever and always!

A Chance Meeting in a New City Turned Into a Happily Ever After

From Mint Photography… Kerri and Clay’s elegant but colorful summer wedding was a breath of fresh air! We absolutely adore neutrals trust us! But this pop of color for a beautiful summer wedding day was just what we needed! Camp Lucy is so lush with greenery during the summer months that the setting was just show stopping naturally! Between the stunning decor and florals, the ridiculously gorgeous and easy going couple!, and the fun dance party… This wedding was heaven from start to finish!

Whether or not you believe in fate, this love story is proof that meeting “the one” often happens just when you least expect it. Take the bride Molli who had just moved to a new city and, prompted by her dad’s advice, struck up a conversation with strangers at a local burger bar. One of those strangers later turned out to be her husband, Zach. They planned a wedding at the Allan House and you can dive into the pictures from JP Pratt Photography.

Their love story.. Newly graduated, Molli moved to Orlando, Florida for a new job. It was a new city and she didn’t know anyone in town. Lonely, and seeking community, she called her dad asking for advice. In all his fatherly wisdom, he told her to find the best “hangout” spot in town and wait to meet someone. She took his advice and ended up at a local burger bar! After sheepishly sharing her dad’s advice with the bartender, he pointed out a group of locals who shared a career in the same industry as Molli – sports. She got up the courage and walked over, introduced herself, and became friends with the group. Little did she know, she had just met her husband, Zach, and all of his closest friends!

Zach went to school in Austin and took Molli to visit his alma mater while they were dating. She quickly fell in love with the city and they even adopted a dog and named him Austin! Zach’s work took them to Utah and he proposed on the Snake River Overlook at the base of the Grand Teton Mountains. As they began to plan their wedding, their choice on location was obvious… It had to be in Austin, Texas! It was so clear how in love Molli and Zach were on their wedding day but it was also so incredible to see how loved they are by their friends and family.

Guests traveled from 18 different states and even Italy to celebrate these two! They had a beautifully intimate ceremony under a canopy of trees at The Allan House just outside of Downtown Austin. Following the ceremony was the outdoor reception which was accompanied by an incredible live band and loads of dancing. Everything from the greenery, peonies and ranunculus floral arrangements to the basketball shaped peanut butter cake pops, and the fresh lemon curd and raspberry filled cake screamed Molli and Zach. My favorite detail about their day was their grand exit. As they left for their honeymoon in Italy, their guests waved Italian flags as they ran to their getaway vehicle – a pedicab!

We’re not sure if you heard, but this lush Hill Country wedding is a total show stopper (I mean, just WAIT until you see the flower girls). It’s sweet meets seriously chic and thankfully Mint Photography was on hand to capture every coordinated Vintage&Lace detail. From the Austin Catering perfecting the menu,, to the sparkling exit, everything about Susanne and Seth’s day is on point and we’ve got it all in The Vault!

From Mint Photography… Susanne and Seth had one of the most stunning, romantic, lush hill country wedding’s we’ve photographed! Maybe it was the beautiful weather that day, the ridiculous Texas sunset, the massive amount of greenery they incorporated for the florals, or the overall just easy-goingness of this amazingly sweet couple… But this one was just a show stopper! Wait until you see the flower girls. We can’t even deal with their cuteness. We loved everything about being a part of Susanne and Seth’s day and we hope you can feel the love… And FUN! They had on their special day!

We get asked almost daily about our favorite wedding trends, and sure enough, this celebration designed by Birds Of A Feather Events incorporates two of our current faves – agate geodes and jewel tone color palettes. They’re a couple of the hottest design trends sweeping the bridal scene and we’re so excited to see how Diana and Jared pulled them off. From the couple…

What inspired the design of your wedding day?

Diana loved the idea of having a more modern design with some vintage touches, and Jared was all about “Big Plays” – he wanted lots of details that their guests had never seen before and that would be showstoppers! Diana loved another wedding we had done that was all green and white, but we ultimately decided to punch up the palette a bit by adding pops of bright pink and plum. Her bouquet was primarily green and white with a tiny bit of plum in it to add more dimension. We used several lucite pieces to not only bring in a clean and modern element, but to mimic the large and beautiful windows at the venue.

Any DIYs or handmade details?

We custom built Diana and Jared’s altar as well as a smaller version which we suspended agate escort cards from. Those were a bit of a DIY project as we had to individually glue rings to the back of them so that they could hang. They were then calligraphed with each guest’s name and their table assignment. We also had table numbers written on agate to match. Additionally we had some centerpiece stands welded custom for some of the taller centerpieces. Luckily my husband has some welding experience!

Favorite moment of the wedding day?

As a designer, my favorite part of the day is being able to show my clients through the space and watch them discover all of the details that we have been talking about for months. I love having that moment with them before all of the wonderful chaos begins! Diana and Jared had choreographed dances with each other as well as their parents, and that was really fun and special to watch!

From Nicole Berrett Photography… The bride Jessica is one of my dear friends. She herself is a very talented photographer, and it was such an honor to be there to document her special day!! She hired a wonderful team of vendors, and then put so much trust in each vendor to use their own creative voice, and it just came together like a dream!!

From the Bride… JJ and I met in college, and he asked me on a date our sophomore year! I wasn’t too smitten after the first date though, and I still feel horrible to this day! I don’t know what was wrong with me, I know now that was the man of my dreams! He was so patient to wait for me, and when we started dating a year later, we fell in love very quickly. After college we spent three years as a long distance couple, so getting married meant the world to us. We were so excited to finally start our lives together, and love getting to walk through life with each other.

Picking a favorite moment from the entire day is impossible. There are too many moments from the entire weekend that mean too much to me. If I was forced to pick one, exchanging gifts with each other was so special. That was one moment that wasn’t photographed, and we’ll always have just for us. The words and gifts we shared with each other were so meaningful, and I can’t imagine that moment being any sweeter. But there are so many favorite moments in general. The first look was incredible, and I will never forget that. I also loved saying our vows, walking down the aisle, just being pronounced husband and wife, eating dinner just the two of us, and getting up on stage and singing like an idiot at the reception!

My biggest advice to all brides is to do your wedding for yourself, not for others. With resources like Pinterest and social media, it’s easy to want things for your wedding that feel pretty, but may not represent yourselves. Don’t forget that your wedding is a celebration of your relationship and future, don’t get too caught up in the “looks” of your wedding. Trust me, I completely understand wanting a beautiful wedding, and I am so blessed to have had vendors that delivered my dream. But the dresses and flowers and colors don’t mean anything if your heart doesn’t remember what really matters. Some days you just need to put down the magazine or close your laptop, and tell your fiancé how much you love him.

Chic Garden Wedding With a Must-See Reception Table

From Ben Q. Photography… Bailey and Kyle had a charming Southern wedding in Weatherford, Texas. Their florist, Siloh Floral, from Denver brought in the most amazing bright fun flowers and beautiful loose greenery decor. Their wedding day was perfectly sunny and we had so much fun with their portraits. Truly a sweet bride and groom!

From Siloh Floral… One of the things that I love most about flowers is not only their insane beauty, but also their ability to express emotion, meaning, and personality. Bailey and Kyle wanted their wedding day to be a fun, light-hearted celebration for friends and family. I’ve never seen a couple more giddy to get married in my life. This is just the sentiment that I wanted to represent through their wedding flowers. Using vibrant and cheery citrus toned blooms was the perfect way to display their bubbly personalities and the joy and excitement surrounding their special day.

It’s pretty darn tough to top a proposal in the French Alps, but sure enough, Rodan and Billy did just that. Their guests were treated to a black-tie garden party including one epic family-style table designed in the hands of 36th Street Events. Intention and heart were behind every detail of the day and Michelle Boyd and Gentry Railsback captured the pretty you won’t want to miss.

From Michelle Boyd Photography… How to describe Rodan and Billy’s day? … Intentional. From start to finish, this wedding day was full of sweet and intimate details. Our sweet bride and groom thought of so many ways to give their guests and families a beautiful, welcoming, and FUN experience, which only highlighted the sincerity and kindness in both of their hearts. Usually when I arrive to photograph the bride getting ready, things can be a bit hectic. But not on this day! I entered into the hotel to see a room full of Rodan’s closest friends simply sitting with their bride, encouraging her, telling stories, and laughing with each other. But it was when Rodan, in preparation for the day, read her vows aloud to her ladies, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room that I realized we were in for a very special day. When we arrived at Laguna Gloria, it felt like we had been transported to a little oasis. Clementine’s floral design embraced the natural greenery of our venue, and enhanced the feeling that we were in someone’s elegant backyard garden. 36th Street pulled off a flawless affair, from the moment guests arrived, until Rodan and Billy departed under the sparklers. From cold custom cocktails to greet guests on our toasty April day, to music throughout every moment of the day, and dinner under twinkle lights and stars – every part of Rodan and Billy’s day was magical!!

From the Bride…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

My fiancé and I got engaged on an epic hike through the French Alps and that was where we really fell in love with the immersive consuming beauty of nature. Afterwards, I knew I wanted to be married somewhere lush and outdoorsy to try and recapture some of the visual beauty of where we got engaged. Simultaneously, I wanted a really elegant wedding. I knew I wanted tuxes and gold details in my tablescape. I wanted to keep a lot of those amazing traditional details, so a lot of my vision for our wedding was about balancing the two themes. In the end, I ended up creating a visual mood board that helped me narrow and really bring to life my vision.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

Wanting something lush and yet elegant naturally created some boundaries for what colors I wanted in the wedding. Once I knew I was getting married in Austin, as opposed to some of the other locations I was looking at, I knew I wanted a lot of green. Eucalyptus is also one of our favorite trees so green as base color made a lot of sense. From there white, rose and a deeper dusty blue made sense to give it a romantic and elegant feel. At the very last moment, I decided to include some details of red because in the Chinese culture, red is the symbol of good luck and celebration.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

We sprinkled bits of DIY details throughout the wedding process. For our website, we created a Pinterest map of all the fun places to go to in Austin bucked into things like shopping, eating and fun local activities. For our welcome bags handed out to guests at the Welcome Drinks, my mother-in-law made small batch pecan bourbon for a special Texas touch. As for our invitations, I worked for weeks with a talented illustrator / designer to create the perfect crest and designed our invitation to exactly match the tone I was trying to achieve for our wedding.

What was your favorite moment?

Every moment was awesome, it’s so hard to pick one. Obviously the vows and ceremony itself stand out as the most special moment, but after we said “I Do”, our photographer walked us around the venue to the back of the museum where we would take photos and seeing everything come to life – things I had spent months dreaming of and putting together – it was really special and magical. All of my favorite details were there – the beautiful array of candles, plates and eucalyptus, our personalized crests on the programs, the incredibly inventive and delicious catering.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

It took me a long time to find my dress and even when I found it, I was kind of unsure right up until the final fitting. It was a beautiful gown by Reem Acra from a few seasons back and really perfect and elegant. The reason I had hesitancy was because I always kind of wanted a ball gown and the Reem Acra dress was so far from that. Looking back though, it really was the perfect dress. I kept the other accessories quite simple but ended up doing my hair and makeup in an old Hollywood way which I felt like was just the right amount of glamour to make me feel special on my wedding day but also kept me feeling like me. My fiancé wore a custom blue tux that he took a lot of pride in designing and it was the perfect compliment!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

I would give three pieces of advice. First (and this is from my husband), whenever the festivities start, give your phone to someone else and just enjoy everything. From what was planned to what wasn’t – live the ride. We certainly did. We partied harder and cried harder than I think we could have imagined. Second, brides – don’t ever feel pressured to make a decision. Especially when you’re just getting your feet wet when venue picking. People will pressure you saying 10 other couples are looking at the exact wedding but don’t let them. Make the decision that feels best to you. Lastly, it’s worth it. No matter the stress – this was the very happiest and best day of our life. It all came together insanely better than we could have imagined and I wish I could do it all over again.
