Pittsburgh Athletic Association Wedding

I love this bride.  And not just because she happens to be the “Secret Agent L” who spent her days bestowing goodwill to all in Pittsburgh (although, that’s totally enough to adore her).  No, I also love her, because she has a smile that is contagious and a joyous energy that is so amazing, it almost bursts from your computer screen.  She’s one of those ladies you  just wish you knew… and her wedding to her handsome beau captured by Veronica Varos?  A drop-dead gorgeous day filled with sooo much love, it’s palpable.  Click here for more.

From Veronica Varos I was just browsing my Twitter feed the first time I stumbled upon Secret Agent L. It was years ago. All of a sudden, it seemed like everyone was tweeting about a new movement that had started in Pittsburgh, but was spreading all over. An anonymous woman with the twitter handle @SecretAgentL was behind it all. Buy a small gift – a bit of candy, a gift card, a motivational book – and leave it somewhere for someone to find accompanied by a card explaining that the gift was for YOU! (You being anyone who stumbled upon it.) People were finding her gifts and paying it forward by doing the same.

Soon after, things skyrocketed for Laura, aka, Secret Agent L. From CNN to Huffington Post to Glamour Magazine – she was all over the place and the city of Pittsburgh couldn’t have been more proud.

Eventually, I met Laura and her then-boyfriend Ross for a portrait session. Their chemistry was so obvious and they were clearly bursting with love for each another. They spent much of their session holding one another and giggling. It wasn’t long before I heard about the engagement. I was over-the-moon excited for them.

On the big day, the weather was flawless. From their bridal suite at the Renaissance Hotel, Laura and her bridesmaids watched as Pittsburgh set up the bridge party to welcome the touring giant rubber duck. It was an incredibly relaxed and joyous atmosphere. Her makeup application was repeatedly (and adorably) interrupted by friends and family members she hadn’t seen in ages streaming through. There were many hugs, lots of laughs, and a few shrieks of pure and utter joy. It was clear the day would be an emotional one for all involved.

I left the ladies to spend time with Ross and his best man while they finished preparing. In true super-excited groom fashion, between the tying of the tie and the final bits of nervous dressing, plenty of silly faces were made and lots of laughs were had. In those moments, he never stopped smiling and you could feel the big moment drawing nearer as his excitement grew.

Ross headed for the altar while Laura made her way up the stairs to meet her father. She held her his arm and as she watched her mother walk down the aisle, she began to cry. “Get it together, Miller, we have a job to do,” she said while laughing.

The ceremony began and the breathtakingly beautiful music echoed in the giant cathedral. Teary eyed guests stood with their hands to their mouths as Laura’s father lifted her veil and handed her off to Ross.

Philadelphia Wedding from La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events

This darling day hits all of my wedding sweet spots… it’s romantic, stunningly gorgeous and chock-full of whimsy.  A bloom-filled paradise crafted by the ever-talented La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events with some of the coolest details you will ever lay your eyes upon.  Think tea cups, vintage books and china table numbers and you haven’t even begun to crack the awesomeness.  See it all captured by Jason Messer and Gene Smirnov right here.

From La Petite Fleur Weddings and Events… Ivy League graduates with a love of rowing and tea, Mary Pat and Karl wanted the history they had been making together to be reflected in their June 15th wedding at the historic Philadelphia Horticultural Center.

It was all about blending the couple’s history and interests with the beauty of their blush palette to create their big day look. To get started, La Petite Fleur pulled from its library of style— mixing and matching mercury and milk glassware filled with lush garden blooms, with the Wixted Family’s heirloom china, tea sets and books (many belonged to Mary Pat’s father in college)— to create a scheme with interest at every turn.

LPF also designed an installation that literally ‘framed’ the head table with hand-created paper poppies, accented with vintage tea plates and frames filled with flowers and fabric.

Mary Pat and Karl, both first year MBA candidates at Yale School of Management, reside in New Haven , CT.

From the Bride… At Temple University, Kyle & I made what seemed like a simple decision that had a huge impact on our lives. We decided to take a dance class. It filled some University requirements and Kyle thought he would be able to meet girls in a dance class. Kyle Burns is a smart man. At first, I only noticed Kyle a little bit. Kyle spent the first few weeks ruling out all the girls he didn’t want to dance with. I was obviously in his “to dance with” list. After a few weeks, it was time to study swing dancing and we needed partners. Most students had friends in the class, but we looked around in search of an adequate partner. Our eyes met, we pointed at each other and with that silent agreement, something divine happened.

We danced, and talked, and may have flirted a little bit. At one point, the professor instructed everyone to switch partners, but Kyle & I looked at each other and shook our heads at the same time. We were perfectly fine where they were. As we walked out of class at the end of the night, we were talking about where we lived. I was a junior and Kyle was a freshman. It was definitely a surprise to me. As I biked home, I couldn’t get Kyle out of my head. It was the beginning of something amazing.

There were 2 main reasons we chose this venue. The first reason is that we were only going to have a 6 month engagement. The second was that I was looking for a big open beautiful barn! The loft at the Country Barn has beautiful hardwood floors, lovely farm tables, exposed brick, beautiful lighting & was a big open space.

When Kyle & I started talking about when we would get married and narrowed down the timeframe, we chose red, white & blue because we, particularly Kyle, just love America. I always knew I wanted to create a unique & personal look for our day. I didn’t want any “cookie cutter” wedding decorations and had a lot of fun designing each table to be unique with the items I had found at thrift stores leading up to the big day. We wanted everything to be fun, unique, personal, cool, vintage, Americana.

We did our best to add special touches everywhere. Our wedding program was one of my favorite aspects of our day. It had a lot of information about Kyle & I, our bridal party, and the day including a Q&A section and “random facts that you might find useful.” As I designed each table, I thought about who was sitting there to connect something to them. For example, at my Popou’s table, there was a photo of him and my Yai Yai from their wedding day. At a table full of Temple friends, there was a Philadelphia bell & vintage postcards from the city.

I remember the nerves and excitement I felt leading up to our first look. Kyle knew I designed my own dress, but had no idea what it looked like, so I was pumped for him to finally see it! We were so excited to see each other and it is captured so well in our photos.

Here at SMP, end of the week wrap ups are sort of like icing on the cake. We try to end the week with a big ol’ bang, so when Design*Sponge shared their fall wedding inspiration shoot, we knew we’d found “the one.” But it gets even better, because on top of all this major wedding swoon, they’re giving away a styled engagement sesh with e la Barra Photography! Head right here for all the how-to-enters, and keep an eye out for winners, discounts, and even more giveaway goodness (if you can handle it) waiting down below!

From Design*SpongeThis is the first ever design*sponge wedding inspiration shoot. We were inspired by the merlot-colored dinner plate dahlias that we kept seeing at the floral market. With that color in mind, we headed off to one of our favorite places on the East Coast – Terrain at Stylers just outside of Philadelphia. We took our Brooklyn crew, including one of our favorite wedding photographers, Jorge de la Barra, down to Philly to spend a day creating an wedding inspiration shoot. From the cinematographer… Kara and Josh easily had one of the most beautiful sunset sessions and wedding days I’ve seen in central PA. With such a genuine and easy going spirit, K+J were so much fun to film with. Starting early in the morning, I started at The Stone Barn before anyone arrived. I was greeted by the awesome staff of the Stone Barn and they continued to mow the grass and prep the property for the day ahead. The guys showed up and were ready for the festivities to begin. Heading to Kara and the girls at the Selinsgrove Inn, I walked into what was one of the most happy, energetic and joyful bridal parties I’ve ever filmed with. The bridal suite was incredible with light pouring in from all different angles.

From the ceremony on, Josh’s smile as he first saw Kara for the day never left his face. From ceremony to film session and reception, you could easily tell how perfect these two were for one another.

Rustic Pennsylvania Wedding from MK Photography

These two seriously have a story fit for a movie. He watched her in her leather pants from afar in high school, then played the cool cowboy when they met years later. She held her cards close to her chest until declaring that she’d marry him if he asked her – on their third date! I’m loving everything about their story, and their wedding? Well lets just say it was so beautiful, it took two phenomenal photographers to capture it all. MK PhotographySvetlana Photography worked together to capture a soiree this perfect.

We weren’t going to leave you hanging… here’s the beautiful film from Lucky Productions Cinematography!

From the beautiful bride… In high school, Joe used to work at my Pappy’s sawmill and only one time I saw his pick-up truck drive off while I was cleaning windows at my Pappy’s house. I wondered who that guy was and wished I got a better look. Didn’t know it was Joe until we met and put the pieces together.

Basically, we fell in love New Years Eve 2007. Joe previously got out of the Marine Corp and left California to move back to Pennsylvania in 2006, just in time to start rodeoing again and meet me before I left for Nashville in 2007. The first time Joe came out to a gig at Pikeville, I could hardly talk right when Joe’s sister Kellie introduced me to her brother. He was the handsome cowboy that was standing in the darkened corner looking very confident but humble and reserved and so gorgeous. I really gave forth effort to not stare at him. It was actually very distracting for me. It was the first time that anyone ever caught my eye like that. It turns out that same night, Joe turned to his Aunt Steph and said, “I’m going to marry that girl, she just doesn’t know it yet”. I think A. Steph said “Okay Joe but maybe wait to tell her that.” Next time Joe came out to a Shorty’s bar gig and at the end of the night as I was wrapping chords and looking down, his boots appeared near mine and a warm western accent said “So when you gonna let me take you out to dinner?” I had to sadly say “Sorry but I can’t, tell your grandparents I said hi though”. You know, Joe went home and said to his roommate “she didn’t say no!” He already knew how to read me then.

Joe came to several gigs after that and always offered to help me pack up equipment, which I accepted with blushing cheeks. Then for new years my dad suggested playing music for the Phillips (Joe’s grandparents), which was a first for me. I did not know his grandparents that well at that time but my dad played one of his first gigs at their farm years ago. So New Years Eve day 2006, Joe’s aunt Steph and Uncle Tim stopped in to hear the music for a bit and said that Joe was rushing back from the farm show to try and catch us. I was totally not expecting to see him and suddenly felt mortified. Dad and I were playing our last irish song “Sir Englemore” and at the end there was Joe leaning in the doorway with a big smile. After inviting him out, Joe came out that evening to my New Years Eve gig, paid the expensive cover and sat alone just to hopefully talk with me. I went straight over and sat with him during every break and he talked my ear off from being so nervous. Which is not the norm if you know Joe. Then the “smooth Joe” quickly came out of him when he twirled me onto the dance floor for the very first time. Weeks later Joe came back out and later walked me to my car. I shocked him by saying “So, if you are planning on calling me you are going to need me number.” Joe fumbled with his phone and almost dropped it while trying to pull it out of his pocket.

The first time we hung out Joe invited me back to his house with friends and ended up slurring his words and having to resort to “spurring” me and pulling me in with his heels. What a cowboy! Joe then said enthusiastically, “Hannah Miller is in my house” with a huge smile. Turns out Joe remembered me in high school and said he once stood in the hallway and watched me walk down the hall in my black leather pants. I still can’t believe I even wore leather pants but I did and the right guy noticed but never said a word to me until years later when the timing was right. Joe was a year behind me and we never met then. Actually we may have met when we were less than five years old when his aunt Steph used to babysit my sisters and I where Joe and I may have made candles together at his grandparents farm. His aunts remember better than we do, which is really fun. Later, by the third date, I unfortunately had a lot to drink and did the number one “no, no” on how to pick up a guy. I was celebrating a friends birthday on a wine tour and by the end of the night Joe picked me up and took me to his house. I was laying down so he not only took my shoes off but also put new cowgirl boots on my feet that he had surprised me with. As he was focusing on my feet, I was just in awe while watching him and the words came out, “Joe, if you’d ask me to marry you, I’d say YES!” If you know Joe, you can probably picture what is face looked like. It really is amazing he stayed. He thought he’d let me sleep that one off but lucky for us both, I have excellent insight and he has excellent patience with me.”
From the handsome groom… Well I just want to start out saying how lucky I am and how amazing Hannah is. There is so many times and places that we crossed paths so unaware and never spoke until about 5 years ago. I believe it was better that way because we both just knew it couldn’t get any better than this when it finally did happen.

I remember making candles with her sisters at my grandparents and watching them getting chased by the geese. We also went to high school together but I was a year behind and Hannah was much more popular. I mean she was the homecoming queen, junior miss, played sports, was captain, did band, chorus, and everything else she did outside school. With this said we didn’t talk at all in high school . I almost did once although she doesn’t remember. We passed in the hall and Hannah was wearing these leather pants. I swear I must have did the creeper stare, couldn’t talk or anything just stared, I was that guy.

Years passed and when I came back home from CA where I was stationed in the USMC, I saw her again. My sister took me out to see her play and was just floored in how much i enjoyed not only her music but just looking at her. I knew I needed her in my life and I’m real happy about that. I was apprenticing my uncle Tim shoeing horses about this time and I remember one day discussing Hannah and the situation, he said “she’s a fox” I couldn’t have agreed more. After missing a couple gigs because of rodeos a month or so passed and I finally got her number. You know its going to be good when you remember your first kiss, first dance, what song, first everything even after all the concussions. I’m real excited for the rest of our lives together and all the memories to come. She’s my best bud.

Bucks County, Pennsylvania from Judith Rae

Truth be told, living near the beach, I really miss fall weather. The extent of my autumn comes in the form of air conditioning and pumpkin lattes, so when a fall wedding comes my way from quite possible the autumn capital of the USA, Pennsylvania, I reach for my scarf and sink into the whole thing. The photographs from Judith Rae are the whip cream on the pumpkin pie… fabulous captures of a beautiful day!

From the photographer… Once they had found the Edgar N. Putman Pavillion at the James A. Michener Museum in the quaint historic town of Doyestown in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, they knew that it was the perfect place! They loved the juxtaposition of the high old stone prison walls in which the museum was built, the sleek all-glass modern design of the Putman Pavilion where the reception would be held, and the sculpture gardens on either side of the Pavilion.

From there, they just wanted the details to be in keeping with the historic nature of the Bucks County area, but with a modern classic feel. They tried to reflect that in the invitations (which were printed using the oldest form of print (letterpress) with Italian paper that had been made in the same way for the last 500 years, using a historic map of the town were the wedding ceremony was held as the liner of the invitation, with a modern script.

After the ceremony, Marisa and Paul drove off in a classic convertible Mercedes to meet their guests at the Museum. Guests were welcome to walk through the museum exhibit into cocktail hour.

They incorporated a modern colour-blocking theme with the table arrangements in the Pavilion for their reception and had a car-themed table names (which Paul did himself) and cookie favor/escort cards.

They also played with the whole British-American theme as well. Those touches were seen in the British and American flag lapel pins worn by the men in the wedding party in lieu of boutonnieres, the little English tea cup used by their ring bearer to hold the wedding rings at the wedding ceremony, and the envelope holder at their reception was a real British post box in the traditional bright British red color.

Pennsylvania Lakeside Wedding from Sweetwater Portraits

You know the wedding was enjoyed by all when even Mother Nature cooperates and sends a magical sunset in honor of the happy couple. And you know you’re a lucky couple when you’ve got talented Sweetwater Portraits to capture said magic. This was just one of those weddings that is filled to the brim with gorgeous light, gorgeous details, and most importantly, a gorgeous love.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/52565760 601 338]

From the beautiful bride… The planning process was definitely a labor of love and the details seemed to fall into place with every decision we made. My mom and I spent countless hours on Etsy and looked at many wedding blogs for inspiration. We found numerous accent signs, striped straws for our signature cocktail, matches for the Cigar Bar, lanterns for center pieces, and much more. I think we achieved our goal of adding in some personalized touches as well. We had an assembly line embossing the handmade ceremony programs, creating table menus, and tying ribbon for the bride and groom chair garland. All these details were tied together by our color scheme of Navy, Peach and Gold. My ivory gown was designed by Sareh Nouri and had silk organza roses that match the roses in the ballroom. The florist filled the venue with an abundance of gorgeous flowers and our amazing band/DJ kept us on the dance floor all night – my number one request!

The entire day was amazing. I spent the morning sipping on champagne while being pampered with my best girls. Bubba went golfing with the guys and then hung out playing pool in the man cave. We finally met at the end of the aisle, danced the night away and ended our night with pizza and beer by the fire pit. August 31st was unique in the fact that there was a “Blue Moon” on that night, a rare occurrence that happens every two years. Our wedding was over in the blink of an eye but I am so grateful for our extremely talented photographers and videographers who captured the day beautifully for us.

Pennsylvania Wedding

Rustic farm weddings are sort of the bread and butter of SMP. They’re part of what put us on the map in the early days yet continue to resonate with readers time and time again. So when we come across these sorts of affairs today, we look for that special something. That “it” factor that makes a wedding stand out in the crowd. And thanks to Oleander Florals, these Pennsylvania nuptials stand out in the prettiest of ways. Clear that schedule and prepare to swoon.

Michelle and Brent’s stunning Rodale Farm wedding was such a joy to be a part of. They used a natural palette of woods, greens, creams and soft blues to blend in with the rustic setting of the farm. The amazing hanging Edison bulb installations used olive and eucalyptus branches dripping with light bulbs to create an amazing ambiance in the reception barn, along with custom chalkboard signs and natural soft sheer curtains framing the dining area.

From the Bride… Our intimate wedding was held in Pottstown, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 18th. Although the weather was unexpectedly chilly and rainy at times, we couldn’t have felt more lucky. We celebrated the day with fifty-four of our closest friends and family, amongst colorful gardens, trees, and sprawling meadows. Our time spent outdoors has always been a time of peace and connectedness, which made Welkinweir, a country estate and arboretum, the perfect place to say I do.

We chose blush tones as our colors, and wanted everything to feel and look very soft and romantic. We were inspired by 1920s garden parties that look so simple, yet elegant. My Jenny Packham gown was art deco inspired, and I love how timeless it looked. Daniel looked handsome in his navy J Crew tux and black pork pie hat. We snuck in a first look in between rain clouds, one of my favorite, quiet moments from the day. It was so hard keeping my dress a secret from Daniel for almost a year!

We were fortunate the rain stopped just a few minutes before the bus with our family and friends arrived. As they walked down Azalea Lane, where hundreds of azaleas, rhododendrons, and mountain laurel were in full bloom, our very talented friends, Johanna Samuels and Sean Pierce began to sing. After singing a few songs, including one of my favorites, True Love Will Find You in The End, it was time for the ceremony to start. Our ceremony took place in the remnants of a two hundred year old barn, in front of a beautiful stone wall covered in ivy. Daniel, his best man, Jon, and my sister, Brittany, walked down the aisle to If Not For You by George Harrison. As I walked down the aisle, Johanna and Sean played In The Aeroplane Over The Sea on their guitars. Daniel and I met at a Jeff Mangum concert, and it took every ounce of strength not to cry the whole way down the aisle! One of my very best and oldest friend’s, Jason, was our officiant. Hearing him read the ceremony script Daniel and I completely wrote together, was so special. My friend, Joe, who had flown in from Thailand, and my Uncle Joe, read excerpts from books Daniel and I chose. Daniel read me an excerpt from Asphodel, That Greeny Flower by William Carlos Williams, and I read him Sonnett XVII by Pablo Neruda. And just like that, we were married!

Our cocktail hour was supposed to take place outside, but unfortunately because of the rain, it was moved inside to the estate house. This was a little disappointing, as Daniel and I had spent many months rounding up a vintage couch, garden tables, chairs, a bench, and other outdoor decorations. As our DJ played delta blues and jazz, our guests sipped on cocktails and snacked on hors d’oeuvres. We had four signature cocktails — a cherub’s cup, dark & stormy, tequila thyme lemonade, and an old fashioned.

After cocktail hour, we had a tented reception that overlooked the enormous pond and woodlands. I absolutely loved our table settings, filled with candles and lush floral arrangements of mostly peonies, dalias, ranunculus, and garden roses, in wooden boxes handmade by my dad. My mom handmade the floral fabric napkins on the table. My sister, Brittany, folded hundreds of blush tone paper cranes that looked so pretty hanging in the tent. Together, my sister and I made a tissue pom backdrop for the bar. Sage catered our amazing, completely vegetarian wedding. For dinner entrees, we had a choice of lemon herbed baked tofu, spinach stuffed portabellas, and strozzapreti pasta. We had a dessert table with bite-sized tarts and cakes, and a lemon wedding cake with raspberry filling.

As the night was quickly coming to an end, and we’d been dancing for hours, our photographer, Gary Ashley, opened the polaroid photo booth. The polaroids do such a great job of caputuring everyone’s personality and spirit of the evening! My favorite moment of the night was our sparkler send off. Just as we were walking through the sparklers, it started to pour. It truly felt like a movie, with us kissing in the rain and our friends and family waving goodbye, as we hopped into a vintage car to head to our bed & breakfast.

Closer to Love Photography, this may be a little forward of me, but I adore you. Your images are stunning and you have got to have the coolest personalities ever because the couples who are drawn to you are phenomenal. Like these two, who wed on a Pennsylvania farm. Love!

From the beautiful bride… My Wedding Day was inspired mostly from my uncle’s Farm! The day my fiance, Austin proposed to me, I instantly thought of my Uncle Mac and his farm and most of the ideas were ideas I had in my mind from my whole life of wanting to be a bride! I am very inspired by the 1940’s and the 1950’s so I wanted to put a modern twist to it with a farm setting! I also just wanted it to be like a big family get together, I didn’t want to over exaggerate any of it, I’ve never been into big show off-y things so I wanted it to be as simple as possible but elegant at the same time! Through the months of brainstorming and piecing things together I thought of using a ton of burlap, because I worked at a Coffee Shop at the time I could get free sacs for free, so it helped to make a lot of the decorations! We flew out to Pennsylvania (from California) two weeks before the wedding and used all the old wood and doors from my Uncle Mac’s old barn! We used a lot of his old chests and apple crates as well! The tree stumps were from his woods, he let us cut some trees up!

Philadelphia Wedding from Love Me Do Photography

The vision behind this backyard soiree is simple. A casual, completely personal party that celebrates a love spanning across 10 years. And by bringing Truly You EventsPetals Lane and Eventions on board, the day turned into all that, plus more. Love Me Do Photography snapped up every swoon-worthy second, and it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From Chrissy at Truly You Events… Julia and Dan were absolute dreamboats when it came to planning their wedding. From our first meeting, and throughout the planning process, they were able to communicate and stay true to one clear vision for their big day: a laid back, beautifully detailed wedding in the backyard of Julia’s family ranch. Having dated for 10 years and attended many weddings together, Julia and Dan were strongly committed to creating something totally personal and unique for their special day. Instead of having a traditional bridal party and long straight aisle, Julia & Dan exchanged vows underneath of an apple tree surrounded by all of their siblings, nieces, nephews and parents. A few chairs were set for VIPs, and all other guests gathered round with drinks in hand. A close college friend officiated their self uniting ceremony and as Julia entered the backyard from a side gate, an acoustic version of “Julia” by the Beatles was played.

For the reception, Julia and Dan wanted to highlight the beauty of the ranch and its backyard as much as possible. The tents were erected two feet higher than usual so that guests could look out and enjoy the beauty of the gardens and pond as they entered the event from inside of the ranch. The escort cards were wrapped around another tree near the pond, and the dining table flowers were selected to compliment the blooms that grow naturally in the backyard. Even the rosemary sprig that put the finishing touch on each place setting was inspired by the rosemary bush grown on property by Julia’s step dad.

For dinner, guests enjoyed a family style meal underneath of a canopy of lights. In each of the two tents, Eventions strung up over 450 lights to create the canopy effect. Julia’s stepbrother actually raised the pigs that were brined all week and then slow cooked on site by the Garces chefs for dinner. Instead of the traditional wedding cake, Julia & Dan opted for seasonal pies and cakes presented in mason jars and french macaroons for each table. The wooden lifts on the dessert station, directional sign post and beautiful card catcher were hand crafted by Julia’s Dad who dabbles in woodworking. As their planner, I loved seeing the way their DIY pieces worked in perfect harmony with the professionally created design elements. One of my favorite moments happened when Julia’s step dad welcomed guests on behalf of the bride, the groom and both of their modern families. The whole crowd raised a glass and let out an audible cheer. The warmth and openness in that moment really encompassed what this wedding was about. Working with Julia & Dan and their loving modern families was truly something special.

York, Pennsylvania Farm Wedding from Craig Photography

The name of the game at SMP is weddings, but every so often we get a peek at the couple before the big day, and it’s always a joy later to find the photos from their wedding in our inbox. These two first graced our pages with their Scrabble inspired engagement shoot, and today Craig Photography is back with their beautiful wedding day!

From the photographers… Firstly, the wedding was held on Jasmine’s family farm that she grew up on. It was absolutely stunning. I love love love when a couple can incorporate such an intimate feel into their wedding and there is no better way to do that than to make it personal. I say having it at your home is pretty personal!

Jasmine & Gabe are an eco-conscious couple so they also included several eco-friendly elements, such as sustainable farm-to-table food, compostable flatware and cutlery, plantable programs (seriously…you could see the wildflower seeds buried in the programs!), and even the wild flowers used throughout the wedding were grown on their property by Jasmine’s mom. Jasmine and Gabe also held a tree planting ceremony following a lovely wedding ceremony, in which they wrote their own very touching vows.

The decor was very warm, very romantic and very personal as well. Jasmine had family heirloom, handmade quilts displayed throughout the property to create a rustic, warm atmosphere. Under the tent was family-style seating with super-long farm tables lined with wildflowers in a variety of vintage vases and bottles, accompanied by vintage books of poetry and stories. There were burlap runners to set it all off. And there was so much fun to be had!! There was a 3-piece band rockin’ the night away, a beer truck to quench your thirst, games such as bean bag toss, badminton and plenty of grounds to take a little walk and stretch your legs or toss a tent down for some overnight camping. Everyone danced, laughed, cried and even the puppies smiled for the camera (seriously… check out the photo of the white poodle pooch).

I also loved how Jasmine set up the ceremony site. The entrance had a row of wildflowers to greet you, seating was not only functional but adorable: bales of straw were covered in cotton material for guests to sit upon and each row was topped off by a tree branch coming up out of the ground and decorated with a mason jar tied to the branch and filled with wildflowers. The altar was very sweet with a homemade wooden backdrop and decorated with flag garlands.

Some of the sweetest parts of the day were when we were able to capture Jasmine & Gabe with Gabe’s adorable children. Oh my goodness were they sweet and to see them be such a big part of the day was heartwarming. Here’s to a new family! Cheers!

Pennsylvania Wedding from Claire Hudson + Proud to Plan

One look at this bride’s fabulous blog, and I knew we were in for a super chic wedding. And I wasn’t wrong. The Ban.do ostrich feather poof, the gorgeous J.Crew gown, the groom looking dapper in a white jacket and black bowtie… Lacey does not disappoint. And neither did Proud to Plan, as they pulled together a wedding just as beautiful as the couple at center – and just as stylish. This is a gallery, from Claire Hudson no less, that you won’t want to leave!

From the planner… Lacey and James hosted their wedding weekend at Sweetwater Bed & Breakfast – a charming inn, located on the property of Grace Winery, which features an outdoor ceremony amphitheater and an amazing ballroom space inside a converted barn. The location is elegant, with just a dash of rustic flair, and was the perfect spot for their wine-inspired wedding theme: Love Is Intoxicating.

At first, Lacey found the planning process to be hectic. The bride is the author of A Lacey Perspective, a well-known blog on the D.C. fashion scene and the girl knows good style a mile away! She had a clear vision of the design elements she wanted to incorporate, but just needed a little help getting the big plans moving. Enter Proud to Plan. Erin and Caitlin helped guide the couple’s planning decisions, recommended the perfect professionals and created a team that made the rest of the planning process a breeze!

The wedding day started with overcast skies and a few scattered sprinkles, but that didn’t stop the fun at the inn! The girls were pampered with hair and makeup and posed for photos in custom pink monogrammed robes- their gifts from the couple. The guys also enjoyed their gifts, swanky monogrammed flasks, while they played pool and hung out in the main house waiting for the festivities to begin.

The bride wore a beautiful J. Crew wedding gown featuring simple cap sleeves and a sparkly jeweled belt. An Ostrich feather pouf courtesy of Ban.do was placed in her long, loose curls and her gorgeous red shoes by Valentino perfectly matched the shade of her maid of honor’s gown. The rest of Lacey’s ladies dressed in long, flowy dresses in varying shades from pink to peach by Jasmine Bridal, while James’ gentlemen donned tuxedos by Jos. A. Bank. The guys also showed off a peek-a-boo of pink socks for a fun twist on their classic look. No stranger to style, either, our groom, James, looked dashing in a white jacket that set him apart from the rest of the guys.

The couple’s first look was an intensely romantic moment. Lacey was so excited to see how handsome James looked and was all smiles as she approached him. Once he saw her, he couldn’t stop telling her how beautiful she was in her wedding dress, how much he loved it and how it fit her so well; you could tell he thought she looked stunning! It’s always so amazing to see a groom so smitten with his bride and James was no exception to the rule! The couple, their attendants and family members spent time on the winery grounds, taking amazing photos with Claire Hudson. The bridal party was high-energy and crazy-fun so the time spent before the ceremony was full of belly laughs and genuine excitement for the bride and groom!

To Lacey and James, the details of the day were just as important as the comfort and enjoyment of their family and friends. They were sure to infuse each element with a personal touch, so guests would really take notice! Custom stationery by M.A. Designs was made to provide directional signage, the ceremony program information and they even used the monogram on the cupcake toppers! The personalized element really created a cohesive look for the event and looked fantastic.

As family and friends arrived, they found their table assignments by way of personalized wine glass tags, and then they were treated to a tasting to a few of the house-made blends! Next to the seating tags, we displayed a wine cork guestbook. Guests were asked to write Lacey and James a personal message and drop their cork into a shadow box frame. It was such a unique and fitting detail! Guests walked a garden path down to the ceremony area- a stone altar at the floor of a hill lined by flowering trees and tons of natural beauty. The look on the groom’s face was purely emotional and love-struck as his bride made her way down the long, dramatic walk to becoming his wife. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Their wedding ceremony was unique, funny and so very romantic! The Wedding Pastor, Andy Mahaney, wrote a personal and touching script that resulted in both laughter and tears. Lacey and James had reserved a chair in the front row to pay honor to the memory of her brother, Kevin, and Andy was sure to incorporate a sweet and thoughtful mention during the ceremony that was really special to Lacey’s family. Another memorable part of the ceremony was when Lacey and James made their vows to one another.

From the beautiful bride… Writing our own vows and sharing them with our family and friends was definitely one of the most romantic moments of the day. I’ll never forget how much love I felt.

James ended the ceremony by sweeping Lacey off her feet for a dip and a kiss and then everyone made their way to the tasting room for cocktail hour. Timing was everything, because the rain held off just long enough to get everyone inside for the cocktail reception- the raindrops didn’t spoil a second of the event!

The catering by Brandywine Prime was top-notch! Butlers passed yummy hors d’oeuvres while guests devoured the amazing artisan cheese display at cocktail hour. Later, for dinner, they enjoyed a meal of short ribs, pan roasted chicken or cheese tortellini, before enjoying a wine and chocolate pairing and delicious monogrammed cupcakes by Cake Art Studio.

The floral design by Honeybunches was simple and chic. Lacey carried a hand tied bouquet of white tulips with a large satin bow. The ladies carried coordinating tulip bouquets tied with gold organza, which we were able to repurpose into some of the reception décor. Antique vases of tall, white tulips added a sophisticated touch to clusters of wine bottles and tons of candlelight. The reception ballroom looked incredible, lined with long tables in neutral colors, black chivari chairs with a mix of black and ivory cushions, and rustic string lighting by Eventions, who also provided sound & DJ services for the night.

One of the best parts of the wedding day (for everyone involved!) was showing the bride the reception room! She lit up with happiness when the doors opened to reveal a warm and inviting space for the party.

From the Bride… My favorite part of the wedding was seeing everything I had been planning pulled together. It was everything I had envisioned and hoped for! James’ favorite part of the wedding was the music. Our DJ was fantastic and so easy to work with! Not one person was seen sitting down in their seats. Everyone was up dancing and having an amazing time. It was great to see everyone celebrating!

The groom was a music major at FSU, so naturally he had a lot of specific requests, but the DJ, Brian, worked extra-hard to make sure he was happy. The bride and groom’s first dance was incredibly romantic! They were just staring into each other’s eyes and smiling- it was as if they were lost in their own world! Another memorable part of the event was when the groomsman serenaded Lacey by singing “My Girl” while she sat on a chair in the middle of the dance floor. They did a great job and the entire room was singing along by the end of the song!

Once the party kicked into high-gear, Lacey changed into an ivory sequined mini dress by Erin Fetherston and put on a necklace, courtesy of Max and Chloe, to show off her new “married” monogram! The wardrobe change allowed her to rock the night away in style and she looked fantastic staying cool on the dance floor.

The perfect evening ended with the couple running to their private honeymoon cottage through a sparkler sendoff. It was a magical ending to a beautiful wedding day!

Audubon, Pennsylvania Wedding from Alison Conklin Photography

I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but if there is one thing that gets me every single time, it is a couple that has been together through it all. Like these two. They met in preschool. Started dating when they were 14, and got married, in a stunningly rustic wedding captured beautifully by Alison Conklin Photography, 10 years later. If it gets any sweeter than this, I for one can’t imagine it!

From the photographer… Tessa and Greg wanted a shabby chic wedding. Their reception had different plates and lace on the tables. They had parents and grandparents wedding photos and homemade cookies from different family members.

From the beautiful bride… Greg and I have been together for 10 years, since we were 14 years old. We met each other in preschool and have known each other our entire lives. Our wedding has a shabby chic theme, and will be a reflection of us… laid back with a little bit of glam!

Philadelphia Wedding from Wren & Field Photography

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a wedding that’s not afraid to color outside the lines. A wedding that bucks tradition and embraces personality and flair. Designed with one part spunk and one part sweet, this Philly affair is the prime example. Wren & Field Photography snapped up this modern-meets-whimsy-meets-gorgeousness “I do,” and there’s much, much more waiting right here.

Industrial

From Wren & Field Photography… Erin & Stephen were married on April 27th, 2013 at Front & Palmer in Philadelphia, PA.  They had a host of dedicated and creative vendors that helped make their wedding remarkable.  Falls Flowers filled the industrial space of Front & Palmer with beautiful spring and summer blooms.  Erin & Stephen were exuberant and overwhelmed with joy the entire day, at the end of the evening Stephen serenaded Erin with “I’ll make love to you” by Boyz D Ment.  For photos we traveled around center city first visiting the historic Rittenhouse Square, the site where Stephen proposed to Erin, and then the new Barnes Museum.  Stephen is an architect so we decided to have photos at the new museum and highlight the sleek modern architecture of the Barnes.

Philadelphia Wedding from Scott Hopkins Photography

This is about to get a little mushy, my loves. You see, there are those certain photographers who can capture the soul of a wedding, and Melissa + Scott of Scott Hopkins Photography are two of them. As you can see by their stunning images, they are able to capture the beauty and energy of a wedding like this (and by this, I mean gah-orgeous) and preserve them forever. Which is exactly why I love Scott Hopkins Photography, with all of my wedding obsessed heart.

From the photographer… Megan and Andy were married at the Valley Green Inn overlooking the Wissahickon Creek in Fairmount Park. Megan wore a stunning Junko Yoshioka gown paired with Sigerson Morrison heels. Scott had photographed Megan’s sisters wedding in 2007 and it was such a joy to see their family again.

Pittsburgh Backyard Wedding from Craig Photography

It’s impossible to look at this gorgeous backyard wedding from Craig Photography and not see a certain Gatsby quality. The 1920’s home, complete with a stunning clear tent, was made for a party Mr. Gatsby himself would have been more than a little jealous of. I’m even told there was a jazz band for the dancing. With the couple’s own fun spirit (complete with food trucks and donuts made on the spot) layered in, however, it’s totally their own.

From the stunning bride… Brandon proposed to me last summer in pretty much the most gorgeous spot I could have imagined — on a hilltop overlooking the Ligurian Sea coast in Cinque Terre, Italy. Despite the exotic location of our engagement, we decided that a backyard wedding in Pittsburgh, my hometown and the city where we currently live, was the best fit for us. We had the wedding at my dad’s 1920s Beaux-Arts-style house, which served as a great backdrop to the throw-back music that our fabulous swing and jazz wedding band played.

The ceremony itself was held in front of the gazebo in the backyard where I loved to play as a kid. Our ceremony was intimate and personalized, with lots of poetry and music. We wrote our own vows and hadn’t read them to each other beforehand, so that part was definitely emotional. Because we were dealing with limited space, we had to be creative with where to put things — for example, we turned the garage into a space for the dessert table and fresh donuts and the driveway became the dance floor. To thank our guests for coming, we offered them an array of homemade jams made by a lady we met at a local farmer’s market.

Some of our favorite aspects of the wedding include the clear-top tents, the magical lighting that appeared once twilight set in, the taco and burger food trucks, the array of yummy cocktails, all of the wonderful music we got to hear, and, of course, the getting-married part. And the all-out 90s dance party we had afterward! All of our friends and family were so wonderful and supportive through the planning process, and we could not have asked for a better team of vendors, designers, and photographers. Last but not least, our wedding planner, Sean Gray, was a visionary and also a great friend throughout the process.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania Wedding from Brooke Courtney Photography

Let’s talk about DIY for a minute. It’s a great way to save a little money when it comes to your wedding, so you can allocate those funds to something you can’t do yourself. But it’s also an amazing display of love. This bride made just about everything for her wedding. So on the big day, not only were she and her betrothed displaying their love to everyone, but she showed her friends and family ones just how much they meant to her by providing a decor so personal and heartfelt. Every pretty little detail, along with all the love, was captured by Jeff Frandsen of Brooke Courtney Photography, and we’ve put it all right here for your viewing pleasure!

Museum

From the gorgeous bride … It’s safe to say our wedding day was a long time coming. Luke & I have been together for almost four years- he’s in the U.S Army and the majority of that time has been spent apart. A month after we got engaged in November of 2011, Luke was deployed to Afghanistan for 12 months. During that time, I poured my heart and soul into planning our wedding. It was the best day or our lives!

Before Luke left, we were able to choose the venue together and decided on Landis Valley Farm Museum in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We took a risk for an early March wedding; they usually do summer weddings due to inclement weather. But as soon as we saw their gorgeous property, we knew it was the place for us. We chose to have the ceremony in their small firehouse, and the reception in their gorgeous 100 year old yellow barn. I fell in love with the old wooden beams, brick floors, and twined white lights.

I found my dress at David’s Bridal, and decided to add the lace pearl buttons down the back. I had an amazing seamstress who made the dress fit my body like a glove- and made it look exactly how I imagined. I wore my mom’s veil- which matched perfectly with the lace on my dress. Luke’s & the groomsmen’s suits where custom made through a company that Luke’s cousin owns. The color of the girls dresses contrasted beautifully with the creams, purples, and minty colors of their bouquets. I loved the succulents that were incorporated!

So much about our wedding was DIY, which I loved. I took it on myself to design our invitations, programs, and menus. It saved us so much money, and although it was tedious at times- it was so much fun! We chose to use small airmail envelopes as our table seating cards, and we wrote a personal letter to each guest. We wanted a personal touch to our reception, and wanted each guest to know that we appreciated them and their role in our lives. I also found my old stamp collection from when I was a kid and we were able to add vintage stamps to the envelopes.

Early on in our wedding planning I saw a picture of mix and match china, and knew I had to do it! I spent so much time at thrift stores collecting dinner and salad plates. It was a huge feat, but I had so much fun with it! It came out beautifully and added so much to our table settings.

My mom and I spent countless hours making burlap roses for our centerpieces. I also collected vintage books, teacups, lace doilies, and mason jars. A friend of mine let me borrow table numbers her father had cut out from an old metal barrel that hung from the mason jar vases. One of my bridesmaids made burlap and lace table runners and a good friend of our family dried hydrangeas to set on the tables. They were a perfect touch of color, and the dried flowers were great for a winter wedding. We also did a dessert table with homemade desserts from friends and family! The fact that so many people were involved in helping and collecting things made our wedding feel even more like a culmination of love & community.

One of the my favorite pieces at our wedding was our guestbook table- I rented an old sewing table, and found a vintage typewriter at a local thrift store. The guestbook was ordered off Etsy and was handmade with our colors and favorite quotes. It looked like an old scrapbook, and guests could grab any piece of paper to sign. Guests loved it and it looked stunning!

I also loved our lace wedding cake, and we decided to hang an American Flag (that belonged to one of Luke’s great grandfather’s) behind the cake table, which made for awesome pictures. We also decided to cut the cake with a military saber. Even though we didn’t have a formal military wedding, we wanted this part of our lives reflected throughout the night.

Our wedding day was truly amazing. From the ceremony, to dancing the night away before exiting through a path of glowsticks! We were in awe of how blessed we are, to be surrounded by so many people we love- and the feeling of their support was overwhelming. We’ve never been happier!
