Romantic Mykonos Inspiration Shoot in Shades of Blue + White

Grab your passports, my dears, because this inspiration session from Les Anagnou Photographers is going to take you straight to Mykonos, Greece. Against the stark white buildings and rich blue water, every detail shines—from the Bride’s gorgeous Pronovias gown to the bright fuchsia bougainvillea accents. Soak up each and every pretty moment in The Vault!

From Les Anagnou PhotographersThe flavour of this shoot was one of bright contrasts softened by careful and loving attention to detail, reflecting Alexia and Ralph’s intimate location of their love shoot on the stunning Greek island of Mykonos, the island of the winds. This couple wanted to celebrate their love shortly after their wedding on mainland Greece.

So here on Mykonos, the couple came together and stood where the white washed clusters of buildings are set against the deep blue Aegean sea. As the sky created a clean bright backdrop, the famous windmills softened the scene turning with the strong winds that swept around the shore, blowing the bride’s veil into the air with a casual air of drama, in this the most luxurious and beautiful of all Greek wedding destinations.

Reflecting the blue and white landscape, the Event Company brought the details to life using gorgeous blue and white details in this love shoot, capturing the essence of Mykonos. The wedding invitations by Atelier Invitations reflect the colours and ruggedness of the coastline in a simple water colour illustration and calligraphy and the choice of tasteful dark blue envelopes capture the traditional flavour perfectly. The beautiful blue and white wedding cake by Cake by Maria’s Cakes & Cookies sets the table perfectly for this intimate dining experience.

The bride’s wedding dress by Pronovias matches the bright white simplicity of the surrounds, contrasts perfectly with the sharp dark lines of the groom. The flowers by Studio 7 ooze careful loving detail, with the bride’s white rose bouquet delicately softened by green and white berries and the floral decorations on the tables daringly brought a splash of colour and detail to the blue and white vintage tableware with its sprigs of pink bougainvilleas wrapped in luscious branches of grey green olive leaves.

Photography is by Greek fine art photographers Les Anagnou, passionate about capturing the love and location of a wedding on film. It’s hidden in the detail.

Elegant Barn Wedding

Barn marrying is one of my favorite ways to say “I do” – especially when it’s a romantic meets organic set of nuptials like this one captured by Jillian Michelle Photography.  It’s a breathtaking farm setting meets some seriously cool hanging centerpieces from Sweet Root Village meets a Watters gown that will take your breath away.  See every beautiful moment in THE VAULT right this way.

From Jillian Michelle Photography… Helene and Andrew live in Washington, DC but they knew that they wanted their wedding to take place outside the city to really showcase the beauty of the Virginia countryside. Shadow Creek was the perfect backdrop for their beautiful wedding. The traditional Jewish ceremony took place outside on the patio overlooking the gorgeous rolling hills. The ceremony was followed by cocktail hour on the front porch complete with a hot apple cider station. The girls at Sweet Root Village did amazing job wowing the guests with their hanging centerpieces at the reception and the Black Tie Band kept the dance floor full the entire night!

From the Bride… Living in the heart of DC, we knew we wanted a day that was focused on our marriage, family and friends, out of the hustle bustle of the city.

Our color palette came about pretty organically through the planning process. It began as “neutral” but once we worked with our incredible florist, Sweet Root Village, we realized green would also be a focus considering we wanted a lot of greenery incorporated in our florals. The style vision was to play up the natural beauty of Shadow Creek, our beautiful barn venue. We wanted to add elegant touches to an already gorgeous venue and its Virginia horse country surroundings.

Flowers were a dream of natural looking neutral blooms and greenery. We had not planned for favors but many guests ended up hanging onto the green and white throw blankets we provided for the ceremony. The rest were donated to charity. Guests did takeaway some snacks for the bus ride back to the city including breakfast sandwich biscuits and chocolate chip cookies (two of our favorite treats). Our goal for cakes was simple and delicious. Sweets by E in Herndon made that a reality with our varied flavored, sized and frosted white buttercream cakes topped with some florals. I loved being able to cut into her play on a funfetti looking flavor! My gown experience sounds cliche, but after looking at seemingly endless shops and dresses I really did know when I finally found the one.

I love the unique hanging centerpieces the creative girls at Sweet Root Village designed for us. They added an outdoorsy feel to the space and conveniently left just enough room for a scattering of candles and simple bottles of florals alongside our family style meal. Other fun DIY details were the carrot crate for the horse Mr. Z, cinnamon stick filled mason jars for a cider bar and station for FUJI Instant camera photo filled guest book.

One of my favorite moments was being outside for our ceremony and hearing the cows in the field behind us mooing amen to the Rabbi’s prayers- definitely couldn’t have had that happen in the city! Another favorite detail was hearing the our band play the slowed down version of Beyonce’s Love on Top they learned for our first dance. It made a potentially awkward five minutes in the spotlight be so personal and fun for us!

Advice I would give to brides?  Really try to be present and savor every minute of the weekend. It’s such a special time that you will want to replay in your head for the rest of your life.

Inn at Palmetto Bluff Wedding

This beautiful affair planned to perfect by Ashley Rhodes Events speaks to me on so many levels. The soft, blue hues, the lovely textures, the sweet setting that is the Montage Palmetto Bluff – it’s all enough to leave me speechless. But when you have the talented Ashley Seawell Photography behind the lens to make sure every moment was captured to perfection, that’s when I know I’ve hit the wedding world jackpot. See even more in the VAULT.

From Ashley Seawell PhotographyThe wedding was incredibly elegant in the surroundings of Palmetto Bluff. The bride and groom were excited to bring their family and friends to a pristine space that was peaceful and filled with a natural landscape. The wedding design team allowed the busy couple to easily plan their dream wedding from a distance. The soft hues of blue and ivory complimented the lush, low country landscape. The bride added subtle elements of greenery and metallics. The chapel’s exterior was accented with garland and blue ribbon. After a cocktail hour overlooking the May River, guests dined at tables adorned with hydrangea, garden roses, and lilies. The bride works in interior design and her love of fabrics was carried out throughout the design.

This Bride’s Impeccable Memory Inspired This Romantic Wedding

Known for her impressive memory, this Bride took her talent and with the help of Amorology, infused it throughout her wedding, from hourglasses scattered about Serra Plaza to “timing is everything” calligraphed on the wall, topped off with blooms that take our breath away thanks to TOAST Event & Coordination. And while the ceremony was a private affair, we have plenty of pics from their beautiful reception thanks to Diana McGregor. Fall down the rabbit hole of romance in our Vault right this way!

From AmorologyNoel and Cameron’s wedding was a timeless, romantic affair in a palette of blush and grey, draped with foliage at the Serra Plaza. One of the things Cameron adored most about Noel was her impeccable memory. We wove this theme of memory and time throughout all the details at their wedding. At the sign-in, guests left a favorite memory of time spent with the couple, next to a sign reading, “I walk down memory lane because I love running into you.” Guests found their seats among hourglasses of all shapes and sizes, in front of a “timing is everything” backdrop.

The mother of the bride orchestrated the perfect surprise with a confetti cannon timed just right during their first dance to “That’s All” by Michael Bublé. After an evening of delicious dining, heartfelt speeches, and refills from the Italian soda bar, we sent off the sweet couple with a sparkling exit to their getaway car. We’re so happy these two found each other at the right time – timing really is everything.

The Coolest Untraditional Wedding You’ll Ever See (The Bride Flew a Plane to the Ceremony!)

You may think you’ve seen it all when it comes to weddings, but until you watch this “adventure” wedding, I assure you have not. When Andrew of DTproductions and his Bride set out to plan their Big Day, they knew the traditional route wasn’t for them. Instead, they brought in an entire production crew to film their alternative elopement at Utah’s Mineral Bottom Canyon Moab complete with skydiving, rock climbing, four-wheeling, and plane flying – you read right: The Bride flew a plane to the wedding ceremony. Kuddos to Ariel and Andrew for the coolest wedding EVER.

From the Bride & Groom… “The Way Out: Wedding” is an adventurous love story. Early after the engagement, Ariel and Andrew were feeling the pressure of wedding planning and decided that a traditional route was not for them. Andrew, the groom, is the co-founder of a film production company, DTproductions, so Ariel sat him and the team down and asked if they could design an adventure wedding film. She wanted to elope but also share the moment with friends and family. The Way Out: Wedding was on.

After months of pre-production and planning, the DTproductions team created an in-depth 4 day production schedule. Each day started before sunrise and ended well after sunset. The first morning Andrew and Kelly hopped in a tiny plane, along with a jump guide, an aerial photographer, and a pilot and they all headed into the sky. Neither Kelly nor Andrew had ever skydived before, and it was Kelly’s first shoot where the door of the plane was open. So it definitely got the blood flowing. At 10,000 feet the Aerial Photographer climbed out onto the wing and motioned for Andrew to follow. On the count of three, Kelly captured the jump and the Aerial Photographer filmed the free fall. While the rest of the team did not need to dive for the film, they all found themselves jumping out of a plane that day.

That night, full of adrenaline, the team headed outside Moab for the two hour drive to Mineral Bottom Canyon. There they would scout the wedding location and camp out for the night. That evening Andrew was tasked to build the Chuppah they would get married under while a thunderstorm rolled through the valley. The team captured a few overnight timelapses and headed back to town in the morning after hiding the Chuppah near the wedding site.

After they passed through Moab to charge batteries and clean equipment, they headed out to Fisher Towers to meet Ariel for a sunset Yoga shoot. It was our most colorful sunset of the trip.

The next morning the team headed back out to Fisher Towers at 4:30 am, so Ariel could climb Ancient Art. This was by far the most technical shoot of the trip. Kelly climbed alongside Ariel, carrying cameras with him, in order to capture the action up close and personal. Larry Harpe assisted the climb, ensuring that both Kelly and Ariel were safely locked in place during all shots. Cartter and Andrew climbed to a distant cliff in order to get a distance shot of Ariel summiting, and Sam managed the logistics of the from the base of the climb on a walkie-talkie. Luckily the climb went very smoothly with Ariel reaching for the sky around 9am. After she descended, the team headed back in to town to fuel up.

After a quick bite to eat, the crew drove out to Kane Creek for the four-wheeling and motorcycle sequence. At the trail the team split into two. Team One consisted of two four wheelers, one that carried the Groom and Officiant and the other that strapped a camera man to the back in order to get as many dynamic shots as possible. Team Two assisted Ariel as she rode her dirt bike down dirt roads, veil flowing in the wind.

The next day, Saturday, was wedding day and it was certainly nerve wracking. The radars had shown weather over Mineral Bottom the night before, a spot that easily floods. If there was any water no planes could land. So, Andrew and the crew drove out to the site around 6am to inspect the damage. Luckily they found campers who said the rain missed the area the night before. Andrew radioed to his soon to be father-in law that the wedding was a go and he excitedly set the immediate family in motion.

All family members, crew, and everyone but Ariel, Her Dad – Mike – and Cartter drove out to Mineral Bottom to get set up. At the site the team recovered the Chuppah, set up flowers, changed into their suits, and waited for Ariel and Mike to fly in. Ariel’s family are all pilots, her dad flies prop planes, her brother is captain for US Airways, and she is licensed herself. Flying on her wedding day was truly a dream come true.

Ariel was set to fly in at 9am with Mike and Cartter, but they were no where to be found. Everyone at the Canyon was getting worried, but apparently military black hawks had flown into the airport and blocked the runway. After some conversations, they cleared the traffic and they were off.

Eventually the group on the ground could hear the plane echoing off the canyon walls and the knew it was almost time. When the plane edged over the cliff and into the canyon, it was an unforgettable moment, Ariel and Andrew could see each other for the first time on their wedding day, kind of. The plane got in position for landing, put the wheels on the ground and pulled right in front of the aisle. Mike got out first and opened the door for Ariel. The father and daughter then walked together down the aisle. Mike passed Ariel over to Andrew and the ceremony began.

Sam welcomed the crowd with a speech he had prepared after dining with the couple the week before. Then Cartter and Kelly both spoke. Kelly recited the poem “Green River’ (the Green River cuts through Mineral Bottom so it was fitting), and Cartter recited his favorite 90’s movie quotes that represented the couple. Then it was time for the vows, Andrew and Ariel wrote their own, which can be heard in the film. After the ceremony the group popped champagne, and then Ariel and Andrew got in the plane and flew away.

SMP: Tell us about your favorite moments from the wedding day

LISA:  I have so many favorite wedding day moments, but some of the highlights include getting ready with my hilarious bridesmaids, one of whom is the uber-talented right-hand makeup artist of Bobbi Brown, Miss Cassandra Garcia. Another favorite memory was when our (Marlon and my) sweet nephews William and Beau approached us during the wedding ceremony clutching a precious Japanese wooden box given to us by dear friends from Tokyo containing two handmade teacups for married couples. We placed our wedding rings in each of the cups and the little boys brought us the rings in the most serious yet adorable manner. As William said later in his tiny voice, “Uncle Marlon, I was not going to mess up!”

A moment that took my breath away happened just as our dear friend and writer Lesley M.M. Blume was marrying us. All of a sudden, as we were exchanging vows, the Montauk sun came out brilliantly from behind grey scattered clouds and lit up the wall of strung marigolds that were swaying behind us in the breeze, hand crafted by florist extraordinaire Tess Casey of Aisling Flowers, against the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. Guests later told me that the marigolds literally looked like they were on fire, and it felt to me as if the Universe was blessing our marriage with stunning beauty.

Our reception was full of hysterical speeches and amazing dancing, but without a doubt my favorite moment was when I looked in amazement around the packed dance floor to observe a trio of unforgettable moments – my Jewish uncles doing the Hora, Marlon and his buddies in a rap circle with our friend/dancer/actor AdeChike Torbert on the mic, and in the far corner of the dance floor an epic Voguing battle going on between several star Broadway actors. I don’t think that particular trifecta of dancefloor activities will soon be repeated, and I loved every minute of the unique mix of people that Marlon and I brought together.

SMP: We’d love to hear about your dress, hair/makeup look and of course, jewelry!

LISA: My dress, how I love thee! I was fortunate to work with the talented team at Romona Keveza to create the most wonderful convertible dress that I wore in three ways throughout my wedding. The dress as a whole was perfect in its utter simplicity, with nary a bead or bit of lace. The triple-faced silk dress was perfect in its artistic shape and structure and let me be the star of the show. I walked down the aisle in the sheath dress with detachable sleeves that elongated my silhouette and gave me a feeling of elegance and grace. For the cocktail hour and first dance, I removed the sleeves and added a fabulous horse-hair and tulle voluminous and sculptural skirt which added a ton of great drama to the first dance. Finally, for the reception I removed the overskirt and danced the night away in the formfitting sheath which had a wonderful asymmetrical back detail. During all this heavy dancing, what seemed like a large goblet of red wine was actually spilled on the dress, but my friends came to the rescue and assured me it didn’t matter – I was planning to dye the dress after the wedding anyway to a deep navy to get more wear, so the wine gave me a head start! The spill just showed me how the wedding is all about your attitude and the fun you’re having, not the perfection of each and every moment.

As for the hair and makeup, I went for a cool classic look that best accentuated my natural beauty. Makeup genius Cassandra Garcia created a gorgeous wide-eye for me with liner and shadow and individual lash inserts for a bit of glamour. My friend and talented hair stylist Allen Thomas Wood of Bumble & Bumble worked with my platinum short crop of hair, courtesy of the brilliant Rita Hazan, affixing a stunning clutch of fresh magnolias into my locks. The magnolia flower is one of my favorite scents, so my floral genius Tess Casey lovingly wove them into a comb that looked and smelled amazing all evening.

Onto the all-important jewelry of course – one of the most crucial elements! I opted to wear my grandmother Elizabeth Frost’s pearl and diamond studs to bring a touch of light to my face, and in each of my second holes I wore studs from our newest fine jewelry collection, based on constellation signs. I wore my star sign, Scorpio, in my right ear, and Marlon’s sign, Cancer, in my right to symbolize our union in the universe, not just on this earth. Each earring is crafted from 10 carat gold and the constellation stars are represented by tiny diamonds – one of the most meaningful pieces of jewelry I’ve ever created.

SMP: Any advice you’d pass on to other Brides-to-be?

LISA: My advice to other brides-to-be is to do your very best to make the process of wedding planning fun, whatever that means to you individually. There are many stresses that go into creating such a special day, but it comes and goes so quickly so taking your time to savor the special moments is crucial. My approach to this conundrum was to make the whole six months leading up to the wedding feel like a part of the special day. I relished planning the tablescapes, going to fittings with my mom and sister, working on flowers with Tess and hand-painting escort cards on pieces of driftwood for my guests. I even taught myself calligraphy over about a week and hand-inked all of my invitations. This was such a fun learning process for me.

Of course if you’re not the hands-on-type bride, that’s great too, just remember to slow down and enjoy the process. So in the words of my very wise mother, my real advice is: Just Breathe. Other people I’d like to call out: Happy Menocal who made my amazing custom invitations, crest with Marlon and my initials and menus. And of course Trent Bailey for his amazing photography!

Classic Fall New York City Engagement

It’s virtually impossible to not love everything about Vanessa & Peter’s e-session. With Oliver Fly Photography behind the camera snapping every second of Central Park magic, we think you’ll be hard pressed to pick just one favorite from this gorge gallery. It’s the type of adventurous afternoon that we’re currently longing for, so if you need us we’ll be spending the rest of the day in The Vault!

From Oliver Fly Photography Vanessa & Peter are getting married in San Diego, California next spring. They really wanted to capture their engagement session in New York to create a beautiful souvenir of all the wonderful times spent together in this amazing city.

I absolutely loved photographing Vanessa and her fiancé’s engagement in New York City during the indian summer as this city is a big part of their life together. This adorable couple lives near the iconic Central Park, the green heart of Manhattan. Sunday afternoons can be crowded but we found a quiet and peaceful place under a tree surrounded by nature.

The best moment of this epic love story was ending the day enjoying a last passionate kiss from Brooklyn face to Manhattan and the NYC skyline, so romantic! I can not think of a better way to end the day. Every minute from this journey with this cute duo in the Big Apple was a romantic getaway.

From the Bride-to-be … Pete and I met through mutual friends while cleaning up the devastated areas of New York City after Hurricane Sandy. After a day of volunteering we all went to a pizza shop where Pete and I sat next to one another and chatted for a while. As the group parted we all agreed to get together in the near future. Pete kept in touch every now and again, and almost a year later we went on our first date — from our first date we were inseparable.

During our relationship Pete has pushed my adventurous limits.
We have hiked to Machu Pichu and often escape the busy Manhattan life for adventures on the outskirts of Manhattan. After two years of dating, we were on vacation with my family and Pete and I went on a morning hike. He had planned for the two of us to have breakfast at the top of the mountain. Little did I know it was going to be the most memorable hike of my life.

The proposal was perfect — although it wasn’t quite as Pete planned.
He planned for us to have breakfast at a place called “Crystal Lake”, but when we got there is was — according to him— incredibly underwhelming (I didn’t know why at the time!) We kept hiking until we got to a lookout where we enjoyed a spectacular view. We had breakfast and talked about how wonderful it was to be there together. All of the sudden, I realized what was happening as Pete began to get down on one knee and propose !

Few weeks ago, we were introduced to our photographer, Oliver Fly, through a friend and he happened to be visiting New York from Paris so the timing was perfect. We are getting married next spring in my hometown, San Diego, but I knew I wanted to reflect the amazing city that brought us together in our engagement photos, and Oliver did it perfectly through his eyes.
We are so grateful and so lucky being photographed by this french styled artist.

We live on the Upper West Side so Central Park seemed like the natural choice as is it where we spend a lot of time. We took the subway down to Dumbo so we could get a view of the skyline with the sun setting.

You’ll Never Believe This Wedding Reception Took Place on a Parking Garage

I’ve always known the designers behind Easton Events are amazing, but when they transformed a downtown Raleigh parking garage into a reception venue that stopped me dead in my tracks? Well, I think they officially earned a standing ovation. They designed a space to accommodate the couple’s 450 guests, that still managed to feel every bit as inviting and special as the most intimate of celebrations. Do yourself a favor and head to the gallery captured by Corbin Gurkin, and don’t miss the film by Blueberry Creative below!

From Easton EventsWhere to begin with this wonderful Raleigh, NC wedding? First, we should note that the tented reception took place on a parking deck. A privately owned portion of the parking garage in downtown Raleigh opened up to the outside and ended up being the perfect size to accommodate a frame tent that was large enough to accommodate 450 guests. The tent nestled in perfectly within the deck that was one story above ground; therefore, when the infrastructure began, the tent materials and restroom trailers had to be crane-lifted onto the deck.

The Sky Line team had a full week to install the structure with weather unfortunately not on their side, before Blossoms Events came in to start in on the draping and laydown the custom laminate gold and ivory marbled dancefloor. The tent was draped in beautiful shades of neutral silk dupioni with two ceiling medallions that added depth and texture as well as helped break up the tent into two areas: one for dancing and the other to showcase the bar.

Our custom made 20’ oval shaped bar was one of the central focal points of the space. For a guest count of 450 guests, we knew a large, prominent bar with access points on all sides was going to be the key for a successful event. Touches of lush garland and washed out mirrors were incorporated as a design element and barstools were added which made it even more inviting.

Custom tablecloths adorned the bar height tables with the addition of La Tavola linens for the high/low cocktail tables. A side lounge tent provided an area for guests to kick back their heals and enjoy their surroundings with lounge vignettes from Snyder Events. The florals selected had an English garden feel with bright greenery, touches of blush pinks, and magnolia leaves.

One of the biggest hurdles, in addition to the fact we were one story above ground, was what to do with the 3 cement bases that were left from dismantling the parking lot light fixtures – one of which was directly in the middle of the tent. Our solution was naturally, to cover them! Two were utilized as bar height food stations and the one in the middle of the room was covered with a tufted, round banquette. We placed another on the other side to create symmetry, and then mirrored this look in the side lounge tent. This then led to providing an amazing base for very large, prominent floral arrangements in custom painted urns, which created both height and depth within the space.

A draped and chandelier lined marquee acted as the main entrance and exit for the event and was utilized for the special confetti getaway. The bride, in her Monique Lhuillier gown and the groom, in his custom tux departed at the end of the evening and spent their night together in a suite at the Renaissance Hotel and as guests departed, they were handed leftover slices of wedding cake as an end of the night treat.

This Stylish Mudroom Will Make You Rethink Your Most Used Entryway

We currently have a mad love affair with patterned tile and Chassity of Look Linger Love’s mudroom is the puuuurfect spot for our most coveted statement flooring. It’s a showstopper and when paired with bright accessories and beachy vacay vibe art, um we just might set up shop. Chassity, you don’t mind do you? Have a look at the full tour captured by Gray Benko in the VAULT.

This little side room is our go to spot for school bags, coats, and all of our random odd things. It gets good light thanks to a window and the white walls. I love to add color with art and accessories, so when I found this umbrella print on One Kings Lane I pretty much just had to have it. It is my belief that yellow goes with everything

I keep a few baskets handy in our mudroom for organizing the little things and/or easily grabbing for beach and park trips. I love this stripe floor basket – perfect for toys, towels, or corralling shoes!

On the Go with Chinet® Comfort Cup®

My love of coffee runs deep. So much so that we bring our coffee machine with us on ski trips in the winter and beach getaways in the summer… no joke. And if I could, I’d pack it away in my purse for day trips, too. Next best thing? Filling up a Chinet® Comfort Cup® with my favorite brew for those on-the-go moments—especially these early spring days when the temps still call for something to keep warm!

Not only does the stylish Comfort Cup® design brighten my morning, I love that it fits perfectly in my single-serve machine, unlike most of my other travel mugs—you know, the make and pour routine! I’m all about convenience on those fast-moving days when the to-do list is a million miles long.

Plus, the tight-fitting lid prevents spills and leaks when I’m trying to juggle the mail, my purse and the dog leash all at the same time. And not to mention, keeps my drink (and hands!) warm on those chillier days. All in all, it’s the perfect on-the-go cup!

The Bachelorette’s Desiree and Chris Share Their Adorbs Anniversary Sesssion in Maui

You all know we L-O-V-E The Bachelor and The Bacheorette in a serious way (hello, we even planned a finale viewing party!), but even after the final rose I often wonder, “Where are they now?” Well today we’re officially curing all your Monday blues and catching up with Desiree and Chris. We featured their California wedding and today we’re peeking inside their first anniversary. The amazing Anna Kim photographed, and we’re now convinced a romantic getaway is the only way to go when celebrating year number one!

From Desiree… During our anniversary stay in Maui we wanted to do something romantic to celebrate our one year of marriage! What we had in mind didn’t even compare to the dinner and romantic setting that was offered by The Westin Ka’anapali.

We were blown away by the intimate canopy dinner set right in front of the beach. Not only was the setting perfect for any special occasion, the dinner from their Italian restaurant, was the most enjoyable dinner we’ve had in a long time. It was a moment we will never forget!

From Chicago Vintage WeddingsShalia and Paul were married October 3, 2015 in LaPorte, Indiana. Shalia’s vision for lush, rustic elegance came to life in every aspect of the wedding, down to the tiniest details! The bicoastal couple first met on a job site and were living in a remote part of northern Canada when they began planning their destination wedding. Shalia, an LA girl with family living around the world, and Paul, a midwesterner, decided on an outdoor barn location near the groom’s family home for their dream wedding day. They enlisted the help of planner + vintage rental company Chicago Vintage Weddings, floral designer Kelly Lenard of Intertwine, and husband-wife photography and DJ team Lauren and Alex Balingit.

From The Bride…When Doug and I were planning our wedding, we knew we wanted to provide a unique, personal and above all, fun, experience for all of our guests. Since more than half of our guest list was not from the D.C. area where we live and I also grew up, we decided it was important to find a venue that would give our guests a true “DC experience” and something a little different from a traditional ballroom wedding. We looked at several venues but when we got to the Top of the Hay on the hotel’s 9th floor and saw the space which was framed with French doors leading to a wrap-around balcony with a commanding view of The White House, Monuments and the Potomac River, we knew it was the perfect spot for our reception. The view combined with the old hotel’s storied history, excellent service, location, and catering of the Hay-Adams made for the perfect venue.

Our wedding was a black tie city affair, but we also wanted to incorporate details from Bethany Beach, DE where we met, our families have homes and where we have developed life-long friendships with so many of our friends. Balancing the formal look of the wedding with some more casual touches from the beach also helped give the wedding a more relaxed vibe which was very important to us. To do this, we used Doug’s old life-saving buoy as our guest book and tied in popular places in Bethany such as late night passed burgers and fries in Boardwalk Fry cups and a candy cart with our favorite treats from Candy Kitchen, the local candy shop at the Delaware beaches. We also had beautiful custom save the dates that told a bit of our story from the Beach to D.C. from Cheree Berry Paper. I am still getting compliments on these!

It was critical that our guests had a great time and felt taken care of throughout the weekend. We had a casual welcome drinks reception on Friday at one of our friends restaurants so guests could get to know one another and a day-long farewell party at my parents Alexandria home on Sunday. Most importantly, we had an amazing band, The Hudson Project, who kept the dance floor packed the entire night with all of our friends and family of all age groups. I don’t think I have ever had more fun!

The final aspect of our wedding that really made it special was the ceremony. I will admit with all of the time spent focusing on the details of the reception, I had not anticipated how special the ceremony would be to me. When the priests, both of whom were my high school Principals which added another personal touch, announced us as husband and wife, the church erupted into the biggest cheer I have ever heard. The joy of that moment coupled with the love and happiness of those most important to us was something I will never forget and truly did make me feel like the luckiest and happiest girl in the world.

Romantic, Boho Chic Cabo Destination Wedding

If you’re in need for a little Monday pick-me-up, look no further than Erin and Shawn’s bohemian chic destination wedding in Cabo. With pretty white lace details, gorgeous flowers accented with lush greenery, gold accents throughout and rustic wood elements, this day was meant to be pinned. See all the gorgeous details from Ana & JeromeDel Cabo Event Design and Amy Abbott Events in The Vault!

From The Bride…Our inspiration for the wedding was “Bohemian Chic” mixed with rustic elements. The outcome of that was pretty white lace details, flowers mixed with greens, gold accents, and rustic wood pieces (menu, table numbers, and king tables/chairs). I wanted the decor to be pretty yet comfortable at the same time. It was also very important for us to incorporate both cultures (Indian and American) by including Indian traditions in the Ceremony and the Reception. For example, the presentation of the Manthrakodi (blessed Sari given to me by Shawn’s parents during the wedding) and the thali which are threads from the sari tied around my neck symbolizing that we are now formally a couple.

Shawn and I met in Chicago a little over 6 years ago…he worked at an Advertising agency and I worked at a Magazine/Publication. My boss and I took Shawn and his team out for dinner and drinks. I gravitated towards his warm smile and kind demeanor…we started dating a couple months later and the rest is history :)

Shawn proposed to me in Cabo on Cinco de Mayo in 2014 which is why we wanted to get married there…it is a very special place for us and we couldn’t wait to share it with our family and friends. Our 6 year anniversary was the night before our wedding and I went to school in San Diego and the second I saw The Cabo Surf hotel I knew that was the venue…felt like a little bit of home mixed with everything that makes Cabo special.

From Amy Abbott EventsErin wanted a low key boho flow wedding. The bride and groom hail from Chicago and were planning a wedding while changing jobs, moving into the suburbs and it was all quite a juggle. All of this was on of the reasons they made a decision to have a destination wedding. Erin presented us with a well organized Pinterest board and we took over from there.

They loved the hip and simple sophistication of the Cabo Surf Hotel, and chose that as the place for their reception and for their guests to stay. The whole feel of the weekend with everyone at one space made is relaxed and almost like staying at one giant villa.

Erin and Shawn were married in the Mission San Jose Church and came back to the hotel for the cocktail and reception. The Flowers by Pina Hernandez were simply breathtaking and Erin and Shawn chose hand painted rustic wood, re-purposed from the beach as their bohemian inspired place cards. The flow of the evening was magical and a good time was had by all.

From The Bride & Groom…We wanted our wedding to be a perfect blend of the two of us and the things we love to do together.

Lorrie is from Nashville and Dan is from Chicago. So we created a mixture of sophisticated southern charm and Chicago industrial. The Cordelle was the perfect venue for this.

We love to cook and entertain, so we wanted the night to feel like a dinner party. We made a jar of jam for every guest, mixed the families together and served food family style at long farm tables.

We both work in creative fields and have super creative friends and family members. We got them to help us design an amazing invitation suite, build & paint reclaimed barn wood signs as well as write & officiate a personalized wedding ceremony.

Romantic Havana Wedding Inspiration

Stepping into Matthew Ree’s and CLY BY MATTHEW’s pics from a recent trip to Havana is like going back in time, from the vintage cars that rule the road to the old world romance radiating from every single image captured. With the styling expertise of Designs by Hemingway on full display, we’re whisked away to this magical space and I don’t want to leave anytime soon. See it all in our Vault right this way!

From Matthew ReeThe trip felt like we were in a time warp traveling back to the 1940’s and stepping onto a movie set that someone forgot to tear down. Within an hour of arriving, we were wandering and exploring on foot through the streets of Havana. Drawn to the weathered patina colors, amazing textures, patterned tiles, narrow lanes and mysterious dilapidated stairwells inside of old but beautiful faded buildings. The layers of distressed colorful and chipping paint everywhere makes Havana an intoxicating backdrop to style a photo shoot.

Our styled shoot began at the famous Cuban parador, La Guarida in Central Havana. This crumbling yet grandeur building was the inspiration for our couple shoot. The grand and ornate staircases go up to three separate levels with a rooftop bar that has a splendid view of Havana. Our model, Carla, wore a Claire Pettibone dress “Raphaella” so beautiful with winged sleeves and a blue silk lining. Everything came to life after designing vintage brass candlesticks leading up the grand staircase. Flowers were in short supply and you can not ship them in so Debbie had to forge everything from locals which was fun in itself. With a dress change to a Claire Pettibone “Alma” dress, we took the shoot onto the streets of Havana. Old vintage cars are roaming around on every corner, the cobble stone streets and amazing colors and textures are everywhere! This place is seriously magical!!
