Against All Odds, This Bride and Groom Got Their Happily Ever After

Not all fairytales start smoothly – just ask Ashley and Tyler. For when their original venue suddenly closed they thought all was lost, but thankfully their misfortune was short lived. Soon after they discovered Cherokee Ranch And Castle and their fairy godmother Lisa O’Dwyer. Joined by Fortuna Films behind the lens, see their storybook ending in The Vault!

From Lisa O’DwyerAshley and Tyler’s wedding is at a Cherokee Castle, a historic castle in Colorado near Denver built by an English family in the 1920s. The couple had lost their original wedding venue when it closed suddenly, but their planner Isabelle Kline found a gorgeous new one for them that they fell in love with! I loved the garlanded market lighting for their outside reception which looked very European amongst the English castle-inspired architecture.

From The Bride…The inspiration for our wedding really came from both Tyler and my backgrounds. I was born and raised in Central California, which is also the same place that we met and started dating. Tyler was born and raised in Littleton, and obviously would be the place where we would choose to start our lives together. It was important for the both of us to incorporate both California and Colorado themes into our wedding by way of California wines, Colorado craft beers, and a Colorado-inspired menu, while still keeping it very timeless and classy. As most of our guests were traveling to Colorado from over 15 different states, it was also important to us that we could share what we love about where we were beginning our future with our family and friends.

In regards to the venue that we lost, now that we’ve both been able to really look back on the whole thing, what we thought at the time was a complete wedding planning disaster turned into us wondering how we would have had anything different. Being able to host a wedding in a Colorado historical landmark was another way to entertain our guests, too. We decided against offering wedding favors, and instead giving them an experience we hope they’ll never forget through castle tours, local craft beer tastings (which were hand-made by my Dad), the wildlife and the incredible views on top of the mountain, literally. I did the calligraphy for the invitations and signs (my company is Aspens and Inks on Etsy).

All the Reason You’ll Ever Need To Marry on a Mountaintop

I’m just going to say it – mountains are the new beach. At least when it comes to wedding backdrops. And thanks to Jake and Anna of Sweetlife Photography you’ve got more reason than ever to plan a day set in natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Get inspired with a trip to The Vault for every last image.

From Jake & Anna… This bridal editorial was inspired by the feeling that only a mountaintop can give. Bon Iver’s “Holocene” captures it perfectly:

“And at once I knew I was not magnificent
Strayed above the highway aisle
Jagged vacance, thick with ice
But I could see for miles, miles, miles”

As we planned our shoot, we envisioned bright sunlight and a view clear to the horizon. On a clear day, we might have even glimpsed the ocean. The mountain had other plans. Our brief sunlight quickly turned to rolling mist, dense fog, freezing rain, and snow—all within a two hour window. It was different than we had hoped for but now seeing the photos, we wouldn’t have had it any other way. The mountain taught us an important lesson this day: sometimes the greatest beauty is found in the unexpected.

With the mountain and its views as our inspiration, we tied its character into each element of the shoot. We knew we wanted a weightless dress to dance in the wind sweeping over the ridge. It was love at first sight when we discovered Sarah Seven’s “Lafayette” gown in coffee color! With it’s soft flowing silk chiffon and delicate shoulder detailing, it conveyed the natural movement and femininity we dreamt of. Austie Eckley’s coffee-colored chapel-length veil paired perfectly—the soft tulle flowed down the length of the dress, adding an ethereal layered effect to the bride’s look.

The natural beauty of the mountain is represented in Austie Eckley’s makeup and hair work. We wanted a look that would compliment the scene and highlight the breathtaking beauty of the model with her natural glowing skin tone and flowing red hair. Austie kept the makeup minimal—a delicate art in and of itself—using only the model’s natural lashes with simple mascara, light eyeshadow, and a bold lip to create balance and add a pop of color. For the hair, our priority again was catching the mountain wind and creating movement, so Austie kept it mostly down with only a simple, loose braid across the back. Austie’s limited edition headpiece with light green opal beading and thin gold wiring added the perfect finishing touch.

Ponderosa & Thyme created the perfect bouquet to introduce color and whimsy. With the rest of our styling in muted tones, the pops of red and magenta in the florals created a pleasing balance in the photos. The bouquet itself is breathtaking—a true work of art. Every corner and angle introduces a new floral element, even a few unexpected but perfectly integrated dried floral buds. The shape of the bouquet is beautifully asymmetrical, creating an artistic focal point throughout the photos, and Silk & Willow ribbon hanging from the stems added elegant, floating movement.

Trumpet & Horn’s one-of-a-kind “Palo Alto” engagement ring makes a statement with it’s center Contra Luz Oval Cabochon opal displaying a play of peachy-orange and green. This authentic Art Deco vintage piece dates to the mid-1930s and tells a story of classic romance and style. We chose this ring for it’s color and uniqueness—adding a touch of understated boldness while complimenting our overall minimalistic appeal.

The invitation suite by Kelsey Malie Calligraphy included non-traditional verbiage inspired by the location, inviting guests to “come to the mountain”, as well as display-worthy inserts such as a poetic quote about “seeing for miles and miles” and a simple watercolor painting of the mountain scene at dusk. Adding uniqueness and breaking from tradition, Kelsey utilized a different brand and shade of fine paper for each piece in the suite, creating a visual and textured experience for guests as they peruse each element. Verde Studio contributed a selection of unused vintage stamps that coordinated perfectly with our color palette and completed the unique experience of the invitation suite.

We chose our inspiration for this shoot carefully and created a short list of filters to run each styling decision through as described above. Even a natural, minimalistic aesthetic requires great attention to detail and intentionality, whether designing an editorial shoot or an actual wedding. Working with vendors who share your vision is critical because ultimately, you have to trust them to bring that vision to life.

This Untraditional Indian Wedding in Amsterdam has a Major Wow Factor

For Saroj and Raaziek, a traditional Indian wedding with several days of events and hundreds of guests, held little appeal. So instead, this duo decided to create a wedding that was totally them: a nonreligious ceremony followed by an intimate reception infused with traditional Indian wedding colors like red, pink and purple. The end result is a wedding as beautiful as the city in which it took place. See it all from Wesley Nulens in The Vault!

From Back To StyleSaroj & Raaziek got married last September in beautiful Amsterdam! The bride and groom both have their roots in India, therefore they wanted an Indian vibe to come through in the styling of their big day. But, since Saroj family are Hindu, and Raazieks family are Muslim, the decided not to include any religious influences in their wedding, as not to offend any members of both their family’s. Being quite the untraditional couple, they were looking for a unique style for their wedding. A combination of class, vintage charm and Indian details. As their stylist, I incorporated these elements in the decoration of their beautiful little apartment in the middle of Amsterdam. And on both wedding locations; ceremony and dinner.

This day in September couldn’t possible have been more rainy..typical Dutch weather..so we were in luck most of the photo shoot and wedding locations were indoors. During a few dry moments Wesley Nulens, the incredibly talented photographer, managed to make some beautiful shots of the couple in the Amsterdam Hortus Botanicus.

As a colour scheme we went for a muted and soft approach on traditional Indian wedding colors such as reds, pinks and purples. To keep with the vintage charm, we went for soft, pastel versions of these colors.

Traditional Indian weddings tend to last several days and included many hundreds of guests. This is another part this unique couple wanted to do differently. They decided to only invite a very small number of close family friends, and keep their big day truly intimate.

Brides advice: Stay true to yourself and who you both are. The day should be all about you and your love for each other. So do exactly what you both want.

Hurricane Sandy Was the Impetus for this Glam Floral Filled Wedding

It’s no surprise these nuptials took place in LA; the pics by Docuvitae are straight out of a Hollywood classic. From the Bride’s gorgeous Grace Kelly inspired gown to the collection of unique rentals (courtesy of Archive Rentals, Casa de Perrin and Found Vintage Rentals), we declare this one must-see celebration, all thanks to Gather Events and all the sparkle they spread – see more in our Vault this way!

From Gather Events… Built in 1927, the Ebell of Los Angeles gives one the feeling of stepping back in time. Our design inspiration brought us to a bygone era of elegance and decadence. Taking cues from both the French Victorian era and America in the early 1900s, we used a soft palette of pastels and incorporated engraved and hand calligraphed paper goods, romantic, textured florals and vintage lounge furniture and dishware.

Every carefully curated detail had its roots in the past, from Panni’s collection of vintage love letters that sat atop each place setting to the tarnished metal vessels used for the centerpieces to the vintage cake topper.

Panni looked to the past for wedding gown inspiration, using Grace Kelly’s wedding gown as a basis for her dress choice, the Marchesa gown she chose and modified, traditional vintage elements with a modern twist.

The ceremony incorporated both a sofreh and a chuppah to honor the bride’s and groom’s cultural and religious traditions. It was adorned with lush, cascading florals and an abundance of edible offerings. Post-ceremony, Panni and Justin stole away, through a lavender-toss send-off, to a vintage Rolls Royce to have some alone time before the reception.

Early 1900s cabaret and jazz tunes from the live band filled the air during cocktail hour. The 230 guests dined and danced in the beautiful theater. The after-dinner absinthe cart and whiskey station were just a few of the special treats created for the guests. The dessert table was overflowing with French-inspired delicacies and a gorgeous 5-tier cake. Guests danced well into the night and enjoyed the old-timey Man in the Moon photo booth.

It was an opulent affair with many heartfelt, personal touches.

From the Bride… Justin and I were good friends before anything even happened. Our epic romance began two years later as any proper one does, with a natural disaster. Hurricane Sandy hit New York in 2012. With no electricity and no water I was forced uptown. As luck would have it, I ended up a mere two blocks away from where he lived. It had to be fate (more likely a coincidence – New York is a very small city). Either way, I knew that it was time to make my move. I must have Facebook message-ed at least three times. Each time I was disappointingly brushed off. But I was relentless, he was the one I was 100% sure. I was not going to let this one go. I think he finally felt a little sorry (he claims no) and agreed to a drink. A year later we were engaged.

We were getting ready for bed and he began asking like any other question… I turned around and there he was… the man of my dreams on one knee, he was holding this antique heart ring box. That alone made me melt. Inside was the most beautiful ring that I had ever seen in my life. He asked and I just stared at him, he had taken my breath away. Of course I said yes and the rest is history!

My favorite wedding memory: I’m Persian, so it was pretty crowded in the bridal suite. Everyone – my mom, eleven bridesmaids, even my aunt and uncle were all there. My dad and I have been best friends since I can remember, he is and will always be my number one man. It was 15 minutes before the ceremony when I realized that my dad was missing! All of sudden I burst into tears. Of course he arrived seconds later, typical dad he had left his bow tie at home. I was so happy to see him that I almost forgot about Justin! I think that he may have secretly enjoyed it, just for a second. ;)

Our design inspiration: I’m a painter, I create these very lush, soft, and decadent worlds in my work. I have collections of antique hand mirrors, bridal crowns in their original boxes (I wore a Victorian orange blossom crown), textiles and laces etc. I wanted the wedding to feel like you were walking into one of my paintings.
We made some decisions that were very special and meaningful to us…

The Ebell of Los Angeles is a place my family has been coming to enjoy theater for as long as I can remember. I have always loved the idea of getting married here and my dream came true when we discovered it truly was the perfect place to achieve our wedding vision.

We chose to honor our most flowery friend with the position of Flower Girl. She may not have been a three year old little girl (in fact, she is a grown woman), but we thought she looked as adorable with her flower crown and basket of petals all the same.

We absolutely had to incorporate our beautiful Australian shepherd, Estella, into our wedding so she was a member of our bridal processional. She is a true lady deserved flowers of her own. Kim from Art and Nature created the loveliest wreath fit for a queen, and a pink ribbon leash to match!

I’ve been collecting vintage ribbon for ages and wanted to incorporate it into my day. My design team used it for styling the event spaces and had it wrapped around my beautiful bouquet. It was a small element, but was very important to me and made me happy to see it everywhere on my wedding day.

We met and spent our first few years as a couple together in New York. Justin is a real Brooklyn kid at heart. As a nod to our old town and one of Justin’s favorite Brooklyn bars, we offered up whiskey and pickle backs after dinner. It was a big hit with the crowd! My all-time favorite macarons are from the French patisserie, Ladurée. I loved visiting the New York shop when I lived there. For our special day, we had the most beautiful boxes of macaron favors flown in from New York. It made my heart sing to share one of my favorite things with our guests.

Our advice to couples planning their weddings now: Choose a wedding planner who gets you. You have to work with someone who understands your vision 100%. It’s a real team effort. I was constantly handing her giant, unorganized piles of ideas and she was the ultimate editor. Second, do not stress about the tiny little details. Trust your instincts and what you like.

An Engagement Story That Proves Timing Is Everything

Emmie and Todd’s love story is proof that timing is everything. For even though these two shared mutual friends, a mutual schedule, and  performed in the same show (!!) it wasn’t until an ordinary night out in Orlando that these two were finally introduced. Soon thereafter they were long distance, dated all over the country, and became engaged and Tracy Enoch captured it all to share in The Vault!

From Tracy EnochAgainst all odds, the way Emmie and Todd met proves that timing is everything! Without realizing or even knowing one another, despite their mutual ties and even performing in the same show, it took both Todd and Emmie being on the complete opposite side of the US to meet. In April 2014, Todd was acting as a band road manager for a musical act that was touring all over the states. Emmie was into her fourth year working in entertainment at Walt Disney World. Todd’s tour took him to Orlando for the week, and through friends, wound up meeting Emmie. It didn’t take long for them to realize how much they had in common, and how it was hard to believe that they hadn’t meet before. After spending time together that one week in Orlando, Emmie was sure Todd would be on to the next city, possibly never to be seen again. Luckily, the two realized they had something special, and began going on dates in many different states! They took turns flying back and forth to see each other and committed to a long distance relationship for a year and a half. Todd, now back in his hometown of Las Vegas, proposed to Emmie on December 3, 2015. He surprised her by taking her to Lake Las Vegas, where a suite with a candlelit pathway covered in rose petals, surrounded by twinkle lights. led to a storybook poem. After reading it aloud, Emmie turned around to find Todd on his knee. To top things off, Todd had arranged for her entire family (and his) to be their to congratulate the newly engaged couple! They plan to be wed in Dallas in April 2017.

3 Ingredients You Need for the Prettiest Ever Mother’s Day Brunch

Not only do I love this color-happy Mama’s Day brunch for it’s personality, but I love that it proves planning a simple party (brunch for Mom) can be super duper easy. With three ingredients: a killer color palette, a gorgeous tabletop and a kick ass menu, you’ll be on your way to wowing that lovely lady in your life who set many a pretty table for you. Beijos Events is giving us all the details below and you can catch the rest from Megan Welker in The Vault!

1. Color Palette

From Beijos EventsWe just love pampering our moms on Mother’s day, why not? They deserve it! It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for the hardworking women out there that dreamt things for us before we could see them for ourselves, and made room for our plans before her own. We love our mamas! The primary inspiration came from the fact that we fell in LOVE with the soft hues of pink and mint from the Anthropologie tabletop.

2. Tabletop

It fit perfectly in the vision we had for this Mother’s Day table. When we think of Mother’s day we think soft, pretty, cozy but elegant at the same time. This table was all of those and more. We brought in some darker pinks with the talents of the florist designer Meghan of Flowers by Mae Mae. The tabletop arrangement was bananas along with the accents on the wall and at each place setting.

3. Menu

We also partnered up with the amazing Courtney of Poppy Jack Shop Calligraphy. We had a vision of a soft fabric for the menu and place card ribbon and she took it to the next level with the velvet flocked lettering, it came out stunning!! Only the best for our moms took us right to serving the best food and wine with Coco’s Catering and a pretty sparkly bottle of white wine from One Hope Wine. The food was not only good, but very pretty! Plus adding the finishing touch from the most talented photographer Megan Welker!

Paper Parasols, Yummy Cocktails, and a Dreamy Summer Wedding!

Just imagine being greeted with a glass of champagne as you enter this garden ceremony. Now imagine making your way to the reception, only to find a place setting as perfect as this. It’s exactly what was in store for Shannon and Nick’s guests as they celebrated one summer day, with careful planning and design by the ever-fabulous Joy ProctorLacie Hansen brought her A-game with photography, and you can live vicariously through each and every image.

From Joy Proctor Design… Shannon and Nick chose to exchange their vows in an intimate ceremony at the historic San Ysidro Ranch. The elegant yet understated location inspired the design, which was based around the ranches many gardens, including the vegetable garden which inspired the table names and overall theme.

Guests were greeted with champagne as they entered the ceremony gardens, taking their seats at vintage Bentwood chairs. The couple exchanged their vows in front of a beautiful grade trellis, with wild, organic floral arrangements on either side of them.

After the ceremony guests made their way to another garden, playing bocce ball and taking Polaroids of one another as the sun set. The couple led guests to dinner through a rustic, historic building outside of which sage green table assignments sat.

Keeping true to the garden elegance of the property, organic floral arrangements in wooden dough bowls sat on the dinner tables between which hand-drawn vegetable table cards. Guests names were written hand calligraphy outage tied around menus and placed atop soft ivory table linens.

Glamorous Ballroom Wedding That’s Got Florals For Days

Ballroom Bride’s get ready for a heavy does on Pinterest pretty, because this glamorous fete takes the cake. Two words: floral tablecloth. We officially have no words – it’s all next level. With Jana Williams Photography behind the lens and Perryfield Films capturing the pretty, we’ve got it all waiting in The Vault!

From Jana Williams PhotographyOn a Friday night in June of 2010, probably the furthest thought from Geoff and Val’s minds was that later that evening, they would meet the person they were going to marry. After all, the old adage “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” seemed to be an observed law; but then again, Geoff and Val had never played by the rules. Five years and a few months after that fateful Friday night meeting, they stood in union, before family and friends and said their “I do’s” in a beautiful ceremony.

From the Bride…Everyone told us it would be the best day of our lives and it truly was. To have a day to celebrate our love for each other with all of the people we love the most in this world is an indescribable experience. I will never forget the feeling when I came around the corner of the St. Regis terrace and saw the ceremony setting for the first time. The beautiful draping flowers, so much love in the air, and my soon-to-be husband waiting for me at the end of the aisle. It was perfect, and set the tone for a truly magical evening.

If you can’t afford a wedding planner, or a photographer, or a videographer, it’s not the end of the world. Above all else, the most important thing that day will be your ATTITUDE. The energy you give off will be emulated by others. If you are stressed, frustrated, or angry, those around you will feel it and take on the same emotion. Again, yes, things will go wrong, and when you’ve invested so much into this one day, it’s hard not to be affected by it. But weddings are a lot of work, and all those involved are doing their best to make it perfect for you. So be gracious and kind to everyone who helps make the day possible. And remember when it comes down to it, you’re there to marry the person you love. So be happy that you get to! Be humbled by the fact that everyone present is there for you. Take in all of the joy and love; it will radiate through you, and you will undoubtedly be your most beautiful self on your wedding day.

Channel Your Inner Julia Child with these Baking Tricks

I love a good baking session, topped only by eating the results of said baking. But somehow, my sweet treats never look as good as they taste. That’s where Natalie of Jade Magnolia is coming to the rescue. A baker and stylist extraordinaire, she is divulging 10 need to know tips for baking like a pro. Peek inside her pretty kitchen captured by Lauren J. Photography where she creates magic.

Natalie is a mom and baker. She recently renovated her kitchen, with the help of her husband. They did it all themselves! Her kitchen isn’t just any kitchen, it’s also her office.

She is a baker & event stylist. She does it all while being a mom to the cutest little boy, Phoenix. I captured her doing her thing. Being a #girlboss & mom. Her kitchen speaks for itself. Bright, airy, and full of love.

Ingredients

Starting with all your ingredients at room temperature does wonders, I’m talking everything, butter, eggs, milk; this keeps everything nice and even for mixing and baking.

Prep your Pans

There isn’t much worse then when you spend time baking the most delicious cake and it doesn’t come out of the pan completely. I start by buttering or spraying my pans, then coat with flour, then add a piece of parchment paper cut to fit in the bottom of the pan. These three steps should ensure your cake will pop right out!

Flavors

I like playing with different flavor combinations and using fresh, in season ingredients. Some of my favorite combinations are: white chocolate with fresh berries, churro with salted caramel, and lemon with cream cheese. Don’t be afraid to play around and not always use a recipe!

Cakes

When working with tiered cakes I like to make sure my layers are even and chilled before stacking and frosting. You can use a cake leveler to get nice even layers, while working with chilled cake will make sure your frosting coats well and doesn’t get too warm.

Tools

Having the proper tools can make a huge difference and will save you some headaches. A few of my favorite tools are a cake leveler, off set spatula for frosting, pastry mat for your work surface, large piping bags and a variety of silicone spatulas, you can never have too many!

Make it Pretty

Whether you’re decorating cupcakes, brownie bites, mini dessert shooters, or a cake, I like to use simple, natural decorations. I always prefer fresh flowers, berries or fruit, chocolate ganache, or a berry puree.

Get to Know Your Oven

Every oven I have ever used bakes a little differently. Just because a recipe says bake at 350 for 20 minutes doesn’t mean you have to abide by it. Some ovens bake hot so lower the heat; some racks might be too high or low, move the pans and baking times around until you find what works best.

Sugar

Sometimes when baking we get a little carried away with sugar, I know, the point of dessert is to be sweet, however I like to let all the ingredients shine. For example, frosting, most recipes call for several cups of sugar and I like to cut it way down and add it little by little until it has the right amount of sweetness for my taste, find what you like best!

Time

Baking can be and should be enjoyable, not a chore. I find when I allow plenty of time, turn on some music, and pour myself a glass sparkling water all stress and pressure goes out the window. My desserts come out so much better when I am not on a time crunch!

Recipe

Find recipes that you like but don’t be afraid to tweak them a little. Edit your recipes to fit your preferences, little changes can effect the texture, flavor, and look of your desserts, have fun and play around!
