A Wine Country Wedding Like You’ve Never Seen

If you thought your day was shaping up to be ordinary, think again because we’re about to take a trip to Washington state wine country with the O’Malley duo as our guides. They captured a summer celebration with a contemporary yet totally relaxed vibe from start to finish – this yummy creation by The Sweet Side included. More pretty awaits in The Vault!

From O’Malley PhotographersKevin & Kirsti wanted their friends and family to enjoy a weekend away celebrating their union, so they reserved the gorgeous Cave B Winery for a picturesque multi-day getaway. Friends flew in from all over the country and cozied up in chic cabins and “glamping” yurts that overlooked the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Kevin and Kirsti said “I Do” with the gorgeous desert scenery as their backdrop, and danced the night away at a reception surrounded by lush vineyards. Their decor style was romantic and contemporary with a color palette of grey, slate blue, berry and pale pink.

From The Bride & Groom…It was really important to us to have a more laid-back vibe for our wedding so that our guests could relax and have a great time. Cave B seemed like the perfect setting for that. We wrote the ceremony ourselves to make it personal and hand-picked all of our songs. The most special part of the wedding will be the friends and family that will be with us on that day.

First They Designed Her Engagement Ring. Then They Designed Their Dream Wedding.

This Bride and Groom are living an absolute fairytale. After they designed this stunner of an engagement ring together, they set off to plan one beautiful Santa Barbara wedding. With vendors like Michael + Anna Costa PhotographyRedmond Digital MediaBacara Resort & SpaDownbeat LADrunken Pixel and Jenny Yoo, their big day was an absolute dream. Head to The Vault to experience all the magic for yourself!

From The Bride…Christian and I met our sophomore year of college on our way to a winter formal dance with friends and started dating shortly after. We finally decided we were ready to get married eight years later. We designed my engagement ring together so I never thought he would be able to pull of a surprise proposal. Almost everyday I asked him if the jewelers said when the ring was going to be ready. On New Year’s Eve I asked him again and he replied, “They said they were delayed due to the holidays and it will be about 2 more weeks.” I was a little bummed out but still very excited. That night we were hosting a New Years Eve party with a ton of our friends. One friend who is a photographer said she wanted to take pictures of us all in the backyard because Christian had bought these cool sparklers and they would make for some great long exposure shots. Of course I read nothing into it because I completely believed the ring wasn’t ready. All of the sudden mid picture Christian grabs the sparkler out of my hand and hands it off to our friend. He took my hand and pulled me in front everyone. Then it finally hit me, this is the night! I immediately started crying as Christian got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. He started getting choked up too and was having a hard time beginning to speak. I blurted out, “You lied to me!” Everyone laughed and it broke his nervousness. He gave me the sweetest proposal, and I said yes! He then asked everyone to turn and wave to the security camera in our backyard. He had called everyone in both families, even aunts, uncles and cousins to give them the web link to our security camera so they could all watch the live-streaming proposal! It was so special that everyone was able to watch. We quickly started touring venues in Santa Barbara and when we came to the Bacara for a tour, we knew this was where we wanted to get married. Unfortunately they were booked a year out as the Bacara’s coordinator reviewed the bookings for 2015. “I’ll be right back to double check if there have been any changes.” He and I sat down outside, said a quick prayer and anxiously waited. When she came back, someone had called that day and cancelled their spot in August! We were overjoyed and reserved the date on the spot. The wedding was spectacular. We left for our honeymoon in Bora Bora the next day.

An Ikea Hack Totally Transforms this San Francisco Apartment

I’m ready to ditch the closet and go all out with a pax wardrobe now that I’ve seen how gorgeous paint, mirror inlays and brass hardware can make this Ikea classic. It takes this San Francisco bedroom to beautiful, bright and airy and it’s as easy as ready, set, hack. Designed by Braun + Adams for a young family, the wardrobe isn’t the only shining star of this tour. See it all right here.

We recently completed a project for a sweet young family in San Francisco. The space was originally a combined office and guest bedroom, but since they rarely hosted guests it ended up being wasted space.

We capitalized on the great natural light and gorgeous period details to transform the room into a comfortable and airy sitting room complete with built-in storage, a small desk, and sleeper sofa.

We designed built-ins flanking the fireplace with a combination of open shelves, an enclosed wardrobe, and small writing desk. The fireplace was painted and re-tiled in a marble herringbone, and the room and trim got a fresh coat of paint as well (Benjamin Moore Horizon on the walls and White on the trim).

The other room we did for this lovely young family was the Master Bedroom. The clients wanted this room to be light and bright like the front room, but it is on the opposite end of the house where there is much less natural light.

There was also a serious need for more storage, and they wanted to upgrade to a king bed so we needed to maximize every inch of space. Overall, we went with a light and airy color palette with lots of bright and warm whites. However, the clients didn’t want the space to feel too neutral so we added some darker colors for contrast along with big, bright pillows on the bed.

We also took advantage of high ceilings to put in a dramatic chandelier, which not only gives off great light but is a gorgeous addition to the room!

One of the major additions was the IKEA Pax wardrobe we completely made over for the space. We gave it a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Steep Cliff Gray and had custom mirrors cut to inset on the doors. The mirrors drastically lightened up both the darker color of the Pax and the room itself. And of course we had to finish it off with fantastic brass pulls.

A Moody Spring Inspiration Session Full of the Prettiest Seasonal Blooms

As Moss Floral Design says, “the first signs of springs are subtle, yet worthy of celebration — daffodils peeking out of fallen leaves, hyacinths, budding branches.” And this gorgeous inspiration session from the talents of Moss Floral DesignCallie ManionMeggie Francisco Events celebrates that magic perfectly. With a beautiful set up at La Villa Francisca including chairs from Bella Acento and a Anna Campbell wedding dress, this editorial is as pretty as a fresh spring day. Head to The Vault to see it all!

From Callie Manion“Ode To Spring”
The inspiration for this particular shoot began after a reading of Henry David Thoreau’s, “Spring”:

The first sparrow of spring!

The year beginning with younger hope than ever!

The faint silvery warblings
heard over the partially bare and moist fields from
the bluebird, the song sparrow, and the red-wing,
as if the last flakes of winter tinkled as they fell!

We loved the idea of recreating “the first sparrow of spring” and wanted to play with a moodier palate to inspire brides getting married in the springtime, as a nod to the passing season of winter. During this period, tiny buds begin to blossom and grow from dark, moist patches of earth. We played with these colors seen in nature by incorporating touches of lighter pinks and whites amidst the darker palate of deep blues and blacks–emulating the colors of spring emerging from the colors of a passing winter.

We didn’t want to go too literal, but we wanted to incorporate subtle elements that would be a nod to this idea of a spring bride being the first “sparrow of spring”. You can see the bride playing with one single feather in a few portraits; then again that feather will show up at the table setting later; and lastly, we wanted to emulate a bird’s nest with the bride’s up-do hairstyle at the very end.

This inspiration shoot was all about striking the balance between light and dark, and finding the beauty in both. Captured entirely in film, the images show a sense of darkness, but are also soft and feminine. Our aim was to symbolize the beauty of darkness with the inside location; and then highlight the lightness and airiness of spring with the outside location. We hope to speak to a sophisticated bride who enjoys lightness, but also can appreciate the darkness of the transitioning season, and wants to incorporate both into her wedding day–perhaps with an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception.

From Moss Floral DesignThe first signs of springs are subtle, yet worthy of celebration. Daffodils peeking out of fallen leaves, hyacinths, budding branches – these are some first signs of spring that inspired the florals I chose for this shoot. Flowering quince is one of spring’s early bloomers. So I decided to incorporate hints of blooming quince branches in the background. As badly as I wanted to add fluffy peonies and garden roses to the floral arrangements, I wanted to stay true to early spring blooms. Touches of hyacinths, lilac, tulips, and the late winter beauty, hellebore, added a delicacy that early spring emulates. This delicacy was also symbolized by the color palette. I selected peach, lilac purple, and a soft pink to represent the innocence and freshness that early spring brings. This against the moody blue tones highlight new life that follows the dead of winter.

From Meggie Francisco EventsComing from a restaurant background, I’ve always cared very much for how cuisine plays a role in an event experience. When guests gather to celebrate a wedding, they travel from far and wide, they buy a beautiful gift for the couple, and they bring out their best attire–all to share an experience together. While this experience begins at the wedding ceremony, it culminates over the meal as guests trade stories and laughter.

Magdalena’s did an extraordinary job bringing together the flavors of early spring with visual brilliance. The creamy asparagus soup has the tender bright green of new leaves, the oysters are plump and juicy from waters that haven’t yet warmed up, and the lamb chops are beautifully seared. I imagine the conversation would be lively and free-flowing with wedding cuisine like this!

Besides the dinner, one image that lingers in guests’ minds after a beautiful wedding is the blushing bride and her attire. The gown, designed by Anna Campbell, showcases lustrous, intricate pearl beading atop delicate scalloped lace. The substantial beading honors the heavy textures of winter, while the delicate lace hearkens the incoming warmth of spring. The bride’s bouquet, a blend of vibrant early-spring blooms by Adri at Moss floral, is juxtaposed with a hearty velvet ribbon. Hair and makeup guru Quynh Nguyen gave our model a fresh, dewy look and two dynamic hairstyles for ceremony and reception.

This Inspiration Shoot Proves Paris is Always a Good Idea — Even in the Winter

As far as I’m concerned, winter is the worst. But through the lens of Catherine O’Hara and with a little help from my soulmate city, Paris, this inspiration session is making winter seem not only bearable, but also completely beautiful. Thanks to two gorgeous wedding dresses, stunning florals and details designed by Jennifer Fox Weddings, The Vault is full of everything you need to make your day a little prettier!

From Jennifer Fox WeddingsThe Paris sky in winter has a romantic soft grey hue. Set against the dusty blue rooftops and ivory building façades, this hue adds to the natural beauty and sophistication that comes with having a winter wedding in Paris.

This was the inspiration. To bring out the beauty of an intimate Paris winter elopement through warm candlelight, elegant florals and sophisticated design. To get a glimpse of a couple enjoying a romantic stroll in a jardin or locked in a private embrace in a cozy Haussmannian apartment. We chose to incorporate shades of Paris in winter; soft grey, dusty blue, pale ivory and blush pink.

The delicate lace wedding invitation suite provided by Ever After Press perfectly embraced the theme of the shoot. “Je t’aime, je t’adore, j’aime que la vie est belle, ton coeur est a moi, mon coeur est a toi” meaning “I love you, I adore you, I love that life is beautiful, your heart is mine, my heart is yours”.

The gorgeous wedding cake by the one and only Bertie’s CupCakery captured essence of a winter wedding in Paris. The incorporation of the lace detailing on the cake to the invitation suite is in a word exquisite. It truly was the star of the show.

For the table décor, hard marble plates were mixed with warm rose gold flatware and pale pink silk ribbon to add dimension to the design; a combination of hard and soft materials, cool and warm tones. The etched design swirl in the wine and champagne glasses adds a bit of whimsy to remind us that we are grabbing inspiration from the cool winter wind.

Let’s talk about the breathtaking blush wedding gowns from Zahavit Tshuba. Billowing trains of tulle, soft beading detail, jaw dropping pearl detail on the back of one of the dresses… need I go on? They were the perfect combination of sensual romance meets classical sophistication. Romantic, refined hair styling and soft, natural make up by Onorina Jomir Beauty highlighted the grace in the inspiration.

The elegant floral design by Floraison made this shoot come to life. Loose florals of ranunculus, poppy, eucalyptus and jasmine creeping softly down the side of the fireplace with soft candle light beside creates a lovely wedding ceremony backdrop and is enough to make you melt. The bouquets of ranunculus, poppy, eucalyptus, jasmine and Christmas roses wrapped in flowing silk ribbons were absolutely swoon worthy.

All of this was beautifully captured by Catherine O’Hara Photography, who’s soft romantic style lent itself perfectly to this Paris Winter Shoot.

Inspired By Tuscany, This Couple Recreated That Magic For Their Big Day

As their photographer Coco Tran said so well, “there are beautiful representations of love around the world, though nothing quite so magical as the rolling green hills, vibrant vineyards and mouthwatering foods of Tuscany,” and so this couple took that Italian inspiration and ran with it. With the help of Whitney Nelson Events and Poppystone Designs they created a magical vineyard celebration and with the Bride beaming (thanks to Bella Bridal), we have a gallery that we’re not leaving anytime soon – see it all in our Vault right here!

From Coco TranThere are beautiful representations of love around the world, though nothing quite so magical as the rolling green hills, vibrant vineyards and mouthwatering foods of Tuscany. As the most romantic destination the couple was fortunate enough to travel to, they were inspired to recreate that inclusive magic for their friends and families closer to home in beautiful Sonoma. Inspired by simple, yet flavorful cuisine, fresh and colorful florals with a hint of antique gold and soft lighting, their intimate wedding was designed to bring everyone closer in the celebration of love and family.

An Oceanside Wedding Planned in 4 Months Flat!

I’m giving MAJOR kudos to this couple who pulled off an incredible wedding day in a mere four months. They opted for a simple ceremony on the sand with only their nearest and dearest to bear witness, and Luna de Mare photographed the gallery we might never get over. Go feel all the happy, beachy vibes with a swoop through The Vault.

Colors
Styles
Casual

From Luna de MareWeddings are beautiful, regardless of size or venue. Part of what makes each Wedding day so beautiful and uniquely you, is the ability to manifest your day into whatever you envision it to be.

Jessica & Lawrence wanted an intimate beach elopement with a handful of their core family & friends in attendance. Nestled into a corner near a cove on the beach, two of their closest friends officiated, and each person present took turns in reading a few sentences taking part in a bond to connect them forever.

Beautiful to witness, and an honor to document. Their day couldn’t have been more perfect. It was exactly as they had imagined and hoped it would be, with a dozen people encircling them as they vowed to love one another, for all time.

They toasted with champagne, and walked hand in hand as the sun set, towards their intimate celebration at one of the best restaurants on Pacific Coast highway, which houses some of the most trendy and sought after eateries along the California Coast.

From the Bride, Jessica… We planned our whole wedding in about 4 months, so we were incredibly fortunate to find our dream team of vendors. Each of them are artists who are passionate about their crafts, and they added so much magic to our simple little celebration. Our photographer, Beatrice of Luna de Mare, is just amazing. Clearly, her talent speaks for itself through her work, and she made Lawrence and I instantly comfortable in front of the camera (the champagne only played a supporting role). Bea referred me to both my hair & makeup artist, and florist.

Chiali Meng, was my cosmetic savior, and made me feel more beautiful than ever. I’ve worked with many hair & makeup people throughout my career in beauty advertising, and Chiali is unequaled. Our superstar florist was Plenty of Petals. I couldn’t stop staring at our flowers all night – Kasia’s compositions are just SO stunning. One of my favorite details was our stationery, and my dear friend, Lauren Fletcher, created it all by hand, calligraphy and design. Last, but certainly not least, was my dress designer, David Young Couture. From sketch to final fitting, he poured his heart into creating the perfect beachy, flowy wedding gown for me. It was so fun to wear, I couldn’t stop twirling all day.

My best advice is to learn to listen to your heart about what’s most important to you and your partner. For Lawrence and I, that meant having an incredibly intimate wedding with our parents, siblings, and two of our closest friends officiating. We gave up some of the traditional wedding elements, but our tiny guest list of 12 gave us the flexibility to hold our ceremony on a public beach, and to host our dinner reception at our favorite local restaurant. Most importantly, it kept us focused on the significance of the wedding, and let us soak in the time with each other and our loved ones. It was relaxed, simple, meaningful, and felt perfectly like us!

How to Deal with Your Soon to be Mother-In-Law

Our girl Kristin on Bridentity Crisis is sharing some incredible advice on a topic us newlywed gals know all too well: How to Deal with Your Soon to be Mother-In-Law. Read on for some helpful advice that is sure to guide you seamlessly as you transition from Miss to Mrs. Take it away Kristin!

[dotted]
From Kristin JoyLet’s face it: being the mother of the groom is sort of a bum role. After all, it’s a huge moment in her life, likely one she’s been thinking about since your fiancé was still just her little boy. Yet traditionally speaking, there’s really not that much for her to do. Most of the fun parts of planning—like dress shopping, cake tasting, and bridal showers—fall to the bride and her side of the family, leaving the poor mother-in-law without an official duty other than to show up and smile on the day of. And sometimes, this lack of a clear purpose can lead an otherwise well-intentioned MIL to volunteer her opinions, thoughts, and ideas in ways that aren’t actually helpful. So, to ease your transition with your future in-law from friendly to family, here are 5 tips on how to get through the planning process together and with as little stress as possible.

5 tips on how to Deal with Your Soon to be Mother-In-Law

If She Wants to Be Involved in The Wedding, Give Her a Job

Even if your planner is on it and you’ve got a team of awesome vendors, there are still so many small details and tasks that fall onto the bride’s shoulders. So start outsourcing! Take one of the many things on your list that you don’t have time for and put her in charge of it. Place cards for the rehearsal dinner, snacks for the wedding party, coordinating day of transportation—all are tasks that she’d surely be happy to take off of your plate and will give her a greater sense of belonging in your day. So give in to her good intentions and put her to work.

Listen to Her Ideas and Thoughts

You may be annoyed when your future MIL calls to share with you her ideas for robust floral centerpieces, especially when you’ve already expressed to her your vision for more minimalistic branchy creations. However, don’t immediately shut her down. After all, she’s coming at this from a different perspective and may have thought of a few things you hadn’t considered (perhaps tall branches would make it difficult for guests to speak across the table…). Even if you don’t end up taking her words of wisdom, at least she’ll feel like she was part of the process.

[dotted]

Know When to Stand Up For Yourself

However, sometimes you need to give a hard “no” so it’s important to do so in a way that is respectful and considerate. For example, if you’ve repeatedly expressed a specific plan or desire and she refuses to acknowledge it, don’t be afraid to call her out on it and then explain your position. “I’ve noticed you don’t like the idea of a family style dinner service at the reception, however it’s what we feel will work best with the overall vibe of the wedding, so we’re moving forward with it. We appreciate you respecting our wishes.”

Stay Positive

Stress can often lead to a snarky attitude, and you may find yourself wanting to lash out at her seemingly well-intentioned offers to help. If you feel your blood pressure rising, try to take a step back and look at the bigger picture rather than sweating every interaction or conversation you have with her about the wedding. Understand that you’re not going to be on the same page about everything, but it will be a lot easier to endure any situation if you do it with a smile on your face.

Remember, the Wedding is Just the Beginning

And speaking of the bigger picture…although your wedding may be the only thing on your mind at the moment, remember the purpose behind it all: you’re joining families now. You’ll be sharing birthdays, holidays, life milestones, and possibly one day she’ll be the grandmother to your kids. So it’s not worth getting into a fight about details if it will potentially ruin your future together as family. Embrace this opportunity to get to know one another better and your wedding will be even more meaningful because of it.

The Ultimate Pool Float Roundup

There’s no denying that pool floats have taken over Instagram. From exotic birds to sprinkled donuts to of course, pineapples—a pool party just isn’t a pool party without one of these happy inflatables to keep your bum above the water. I personally gave into the fun this year with a white swan and a palm float for our pool (and my husband totally rolled his eyes). But seriously, how comfortable does that look?

Craft the Ultimate Wedding Gallery Wall with Framebridge

First comes love, then comes marriage… and then comes all those gorgeous wedding photographs.  But what to do with 100+ pictures of one of the best days of your life? Gallery Wall! And if anyone knows their way around custom framed art and photographs, it’s Framebridge. With their help, we crafted our version of the perfect wedding gallery wall and we’re dishing all the tips we picked up along the way.

Mix it Up

Mix things up with photos of you and your love, family, scenery from the big day, etc. A mix of different subjects works perfectly for this style of gallery wall.

Vary sizes and thickness of frames

For this we used a mix of Framebridge’s modern white frames, choosing the largest frame for our scenic venue image and moving down in size from there. We also added a dash of gold with their gilded bamboo frame.

Add Art!

You honestly can never go wrong with this one. Adding an oil painting and watercolor totally transformed the look of our gallery wall. Your favorite prints work too!

Incorporate different textures and elements

Natural elements like wood or florals, a pop of gold, rope or fabric –  these items add another layer to your gallery wall and really make it shine.

Choose Similar Colors

Choose elements in a similar color grouping. For this gallery, we stuck with blushing pinks and golden, sun-filled hues which help to make it all feel cohesive.

Get creative

We took the paper used to back our invitations and framed it for a nice pop of pattern and one that has the essence of our stationery without being too literal. Another fun detail, our insanely talented artist friend Jess painted some of the ranunculus from my wedding bouquet as a pretty little momento and one that incorporates our wedding day flowers in a super artistic way. Have fun with the elements of your wedding day and find ways to turn them into art.

With Framebridge, customizing your favorite photographs and art could not be easier. Choose from a variety of styles, and mats all with affordable prices based solely on the size of your art. Then either upload or mail in your imagery. They’ll take it from there and lickity split, you’ll have the most gorgeous custom framed pieces delivered to your door.

Another fun fact? If you are still leery of just how to get started on your gallery wall, Framebridge is coming to the rescue! With a $99 consultation, their designers will work with you to pick the perfect combo of images and frames along with a final hanging and measurement plan + $50 towards custom framing. It’s the cliff notes version worth every penny.

5 Haircare Rules Every Girl Should Know

I’ve had an on-going battle with my hair over the last 10 years. Basically, my twenties were the experimental hair years and my locks suffered—from a soft-perm gone bad (I’m talking Michael Jackson Thriller ringlets, tears for days) to choosing the wrong shampoo + conditioner to over-washing. My once sweet strands have seen it all. Sound familiar? Make sure you’re following these five haircare rules!
