From Joey Kennedy PhotographyThe Omni Resort at Bedford Springs is a tale of two cites. This venue is half way between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and even Washington DC. It has colonial charm and being nestled in the mountains gives your guests the seclusion of a perfect weekend get away. The gorgeous gratto feels like an french landscape and perfect ceremony location. Its absolutely one of my favorite venues!

From The Bride…We booked Bedford Springs out of the blue for our first valentines day weekend together and fell in love with everything about it. I secretly picked up a wedding packet book because I already knew it was the perfect place for us when that time came. After Patrick proposed we both knew it was our #1 choice but just had to get our parents on board as they were a little skeptic seeming as though it is virtually in the middle of nowhere! Luckily they loved it too and we didn’t look at one other venue, we knew this was our place. Looking back we know we made the best decision ever, our family and friends raved about it and we could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else.

Their two kids joined the two for a few shots and they are some of the most photogenic children we’ve ever had in front of our lens. Chased by the waves, the couple reveled in moments of movement and laughter, as well as in moments of stillness and romance. The sun set over the cliffs as the family enjoyed the setting under an arch of florals.

Wifey for Lifey: This Castle Wedding Defines Happily Ever After

This celebration is easily a new favorite. For starters? Look at those shoes! Oh, but the beauty doesn’t end there. From the outdoor sunlit ceremony to the Bride’s insanely gorgeous locks a la Once Upon A BrideHeather Waraksa and Kiss The Bride Films captured it all to share. See every second of beauty in The Vault!

From The Bride…From the beginning, I envisioned throwing an enchanted garden party at a spectacular venue with thoughtful details strewn throughout the day. Andy and I wanted our wedding to be an intimate weekend affair for our closest friends and family; A little getaway at a venue that offered it all. The Castle Hotel in charming Tarrytown, NY had a spacious, vintage-inspired bridal suite, accommodations for guests, a poolside lounge area for our rehearsal dinner, and various outdoor and indoor spaces for the ceremony, reception and cocktail hour. We got married in a beautifully manicured flower garden overlooking the Hudson River.

I imagined lots of dark greenery with little pops of light pink, cream and gold. Our florist, Juli Vaughn, really helped this vision come to life. I told her I wanted the arrangements to look freeform and organic with a waterfall of greens down the sides. She brought long strands of ivy and draped them over chairs, balconies and tables. Our sweetheart table was magical with rose gold candelabras and hand-painted floral details.

Andy and I bought a bag of Palo Santo chips and tied together little bundles with twine to give as favors. Palo Santo is a natural, aromatic wood incense said to have special healing properties. It offered our guests a little peek inside our world, and they came with a little description of how to use.

My favorite moment was walking up the aisle with Andy, our first moments officially married as a couple while the band played Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Friends and family were cheering and there was champagne waiting for us at the end.

Choosing what jewelry to wear was the hardest decision for me. I went with my favorite Jacquie Aiche Diamond Shaker Necklace, Moonstone Double Pyramid Ring and Moonstone Hoops as well as an Ariel Gordon Diamond Tennis Bracelet, Diamond Droplet Bracelet and Signet Bangle with my initials. My Sophia Webster Jojo Heels said “Wifey for Lifey” on the soles. I’m a sucker for those sorts of whimsical details.

My advice is to very thoroughly research your vendors. Take time to meet with many of them and narrow it down based on the right teams that suit your needs. Make a list of what day-of details are the most important and allow for a bigger budget. Our must-have vendor was photographer Heather Waraksa who captured every moment of our day in such ethereal, dreamy detail. The photos we have from our wedding are priceless; We get to relive our momentous day any time we pull them out.

This Elegant Plantation Wedding Defines Southern Romance

It doesn’t take much to make me fall in love with a Southern wedding. Moss draped trees? Floral filled moments? Just a few simple ingredients like these and I’m hooked. Take this celebration for example, it’s simply perfect. With Ashley Seawell Photography behind the lens snapping up every second of romance, we’ve got it all waiting in The Vault!

From Ashley Seawell PhotographyCaitlin and Ari invited their guests to celebrate at one of their favorite places, Hilton Head Island. Their meaningful ceremony and reception took place at Honey Horn Plantation. This site was the perfect choice as they wanted to be surrounded by the natural beauty of the island. Roses, thistle and eucalyptus were used throughout the day. Thistle was used as a nod to the groom’s home country of Scotland.

Going to a Wedding This Weekend? 5 Things You Can’t Forget!

Wedding season is fully upon us and we’re loving every little bit of it (cute dresses, happy tears, wining, dining and dancing!). But amid all the business, it’s easy to forget some must-have essentials that make sure your wedding attendance is as prepared, pleasant and enjoyable as possible. As you pack up that cute clutch this weekend, double check to make sure you have these important items in tow!

1. Portable Phone Charger

There’s nothing worse than realizing you’re down to 10% battery when you walk into a party. Pack an on-the-go charger so you can snap wedding day memories from beginning to end.

2. Heel Protectors

Unless you’re wearing wedges or flats, make sure you’ve got heel protectors for every outdoor wedding on your calendar. They’ll save your favorite shoes so you can wear them all season long.

3. Pretty Pashmina

When temperatures drop, it’s always nice to have a wrap on hand. Bring along an elegant pashmina that can easily be tucked away in your purse and pulled out if needed.

4. Emergency Snack

Sometimes the wait between the ceremony and dinner can feel quite long, so it’s always smart to pack a little something to tide you over. Think an energy bar, dried fruit, or any snack that can be consumed discreetly.

5. Hangover Kit

You know, just in case you need to ease the next-day pain of one drink too many…

How To Get The Perfect Wedding Guest ‘Gram This Weekend

Don’t even pretend you aren’t already thinking of this. All chic, social media friendly peeps do. We wine, dine, shed happy tears and dance the night away at weddings… and we always make sure to snap that Instagram. But not all Insta pics are the same; we have stylish standards after all! So read on and guaranteed perfect grams will be awaiting for you all wedding season long!

Lighting is Everything

Use beautiful natural light to your advantage and skip the dark, grainy photo at the indoor reception.

Think About Your Backdrop

Rather than take a photo at your dinner table or in the middle of a crowded cocktail hour, pick a beautiful backdrop that will take your guest gram to the next level. Does the venue have a scenic view or wow-worthy entrance? That’s where you want to be.

Use the Hashtag

It’s always fun for the couple to look back on their guests having a great time, so make sure to add their wedding hashtag in your IG caption.

Ask the Right Photographer

Grandma, we love you. But sometimes when you take photos we get out-of-focus, awkwardly cropped ‘grams that don’t quite cut it. Do yourself a favor and find a fellow guest with an artistic eye to snap a memory you’ll love.

Strike a Pose

Take cues from celebs on the red carpet and work all the right angles for a flattering look. More tips here to get you started!

Coordinate Attire

We’re not talking too matchy-matchy, but make sure you and your beau aren’t completely clashing. Think similar color families, similar formality levels, and bonus points if his suit pocket square coordinates with your dress.

Cheers To Love

Tired of the same old couple’s shot and ready to mix it up? Grab a drink and snap a pic while you cheers to the bride and groom. They’ll love seeing your well wishes on social media.

A Cattle Farm Wedding Gone Completely Elegant

We first met this couple when their Christmas tree farm engagement hit the pages of SMP. And while we might never get over the sweetness, their Mississippi wedding day? Well, it’s pretty magical too. A true labor of love, this couple’s families pulled together to build a barn, benches, tables, and so many personal details that transformed a cattle farm into the venue of their dreams. Lauren Kinsey photographed, Nathan Willis filmed, and the bride and her business partner (a.k.a. Mitchell Willis Events) pulled off rustic elegance to a T.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/121677172 600 338]

From Nathan Willis Wedding FilmsSaron & Neal were married at her parents’ farm in south Mississippi under an arbor Saron’s stepfather had built out of old farm equipment that belonged to her grandfather. It was a beautiful, breezy spring day, and they were married in a clover field among family and friends. Saron’s stepfather built a barn on the property for the reception, and Neal and his father built all the ceremony and reception tables and benches. It was such a happy day, and the love between everyone there was so present throughout the evening. Everyone laughed and hugged and partied all night. And when it was time for the band to go home, they played music on an iPod so they could keep dancing. It was probably the most fun wedding we have ever filmed.

The First Year: Newlyweds 101

Let’s be real, loves – not every day can be as glam as the Big Day. And while newlywed life can and should be sooo fun, taking time out to focus on what really matters for you + yours is beyond important – and that includes being on the same page with your finances.  Enter Haven Life, the crazy cool online life insurance agency that simplifies buying life insurance down to 20 minutes, so you can spend your time worrying about other things… like who gets the remote on those lazy Sunday mornings.

Let’s face it.  Discussing finances isn’t as exciting as fun-filled date nights, sweet little love notes or researching honeymoon destinations.  But planning for the sparkly financial future together as newlyweds? Just as important as maintaining that post-wedding bliss. (We promise.) Because after all the “I do’s” have been said and sparkler exits have been had, it’s time to really dive into what makes a marriage work on a day to day basis.  Which means making sure that you and your love are prepared for the unexpected with life insurance policies to protect your financial futures.  Sure, it’s not as sparkly as your wedding day, but it’s necessary... especially if you have any post-wedding or other debt or plan on having sweet little kiddies.  I mean, taking care of the ones you love? It’s Newlyweds 101.  And life insurance can help you do that.

Wedding planning was fun, but making smart decisions about your future? Even better. Head to Haven Life TODAY to bask in their simple process (so long, weeks of waiting) and price and compare policies. In just 20 simple minutes, you can calculate how much you need, apply and start your coverage immediately*. Not to mention that the Haven Term policy is by MassMutual, a company that has been around for more than 160 YEARS. That’s what we call being rest assured, lovelies.

Haven Term is a Term Life Insurance Policy (DTC, ICC14DTC) issued by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), Springfield, MA 01111 and offered exclusively through Haven Life Life Insurance Agency, LLC.

Once Upon a Time, This Napa Valley Wedding Escaped From a Fairytale

As soon as this gorgeous Bride saw Beaulieu Garden, she thought, “This is a fairytale place.” And having seen all the beautiful photos from Lori Paladino Photography, I feel confident saying her wedding was a fairytale, too. With vendors like Bliss EventsValley FloraPaula LeDuc Fine Catering and Got Light? acting as fairy godparents, this Napa Valley affair is one beautiful beginning to happily ever after. Fall in love with it all in The Vault!

From The Bride…When my husband, Jon, proposed to me, his first question after “will you marry me?” was “Do you want to have a big wedding in Napa?” Although Jon was from Berkeley, we lived in New York City and I had only been to Napa once about a decade earlier, but having always wanted to get married somewhere beautiful outdoors, I immediately said yes. As the planning unfolded, I quickly understood why Jon had suggested Napa. We both envisioned a whole weekend-long celebration filled with a variety of activities and events so that we could spend quality time with our guests. We wanted our wedding to be just as special and memorable for our guests as it was for us, especially because the majority of our almost 200 guests were flying from the East Coast or Europe. From the stunning scenery and perfect weather to the extraordinary venues, and of course, the world-class wine and cuisine, Napa Valley was truly the perfect place for our wedding weekend.

As we began the planning process, the pieces of our weekend quickly started to come together – a kickoff bike ride through Calistoga and its vineyards, followed by a welcome dinner at a local St. Helena winery, and a farewell croquet brunch at Meadowood. However, finding the right venue for our wedding proved more challenging: we wanted a place that fit our style vision of natural elegance and was large enough to accommodate all of our guests, while still feeling intimate. Beaulieu Garden, with its manicured French and Italian gardens, fountains, pools and vines fit the bill perfectly. I remember the first time I saw it and thinking, “This is a fairy tale place.” We hoped our guests would feel the same way about our wedding.

Our ceremony was held in the breathtaking sunken garden, followed by cocktails in the Italian garden, dinner under the vines, and dancing by the reflecting pool. Getting to use all of these different spaces made each part of our wedding feel extra special and provided more opportunities for guests to mingle and meet one another. To keep the party going when the wedding concluded at 10 o’clock, our guests were whisked up the road for an after-party in the historic, candle-lit cask room at Merryvale Winery where my younger brother Daniel DJ’ed and everyone danced late into the night.

Our design inspiration was the exquisite, natural beauty of our venue. We wanted our color palette and decor to accentuate, rather than compete with, the grounds so we used a lot of light pinks, peach, greens and white in the flowers, programs, champagne and other details. We placed classic chandeliers above the tables and numerous candles everywhere – on the tables, around the pool, and on the fireplace mantle. Everything was designed to feel very soft and ethereal, punctuated with pops of brightness like the guava bridesmaids’ dresses, strawberry welcome drinks and pashminas for guests. We had a lot of fun working not only with our vendors but also our family members (my mother and aunt made the ceremony chair signs, and Jon’s sister made our Wall of Fame) to create little details that pulled our vision together.

We knew that the biggest challenge of a large wedding was to create an experience that was highly personal for our guests; we wanted the wedding to be a celebration of how important they were to us in addition to a celebration of our marriage. One thing we did was create what we called our ten-foot long “Wall of Fame” where we included a picture of each guest and note from us about what we loved about them. This was a fun way for our guests to feel welcomed and also get to know one another. My mother also surprised us with personalized M&Ms in our wedding colors with our faces and names on them for each of the guests.

A highlight of our wedding for both of us was the ceremony. I remember walking down the aisle with my grandfather and seeing Jon with the biggest smile ever staring straight at me, and me stealing looks at my mother in the front row with an equally big smile on her face. Jon and I wrote the ceremony script together for Judge Kozinski who married us, and separately wrote our own vows, so every word of our ceremony had special meaning to us. Reciting our vows in front of our favorite people as the sun shone down on us was simply magical. Lori Paladino was fantastic at capturing it all, including the moment when Jon prematurely went in for a kiss before the judge said “you may kiss your bride,” which got everyone laughing.

We had also arranged for aunts and uncles from both sides of our families to sing and play a song during our ceremony from my great grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Having both of our families – who had previously met only over email – come together for that was very meaningful. Another highlight of our wedding was the final dip in our first dance. Jon and I embarrassingly had over 10 dance lessons to nail those 2-3 minutes, and it was all worth it!

Having our wedding in Napa and both being foodies, we knew we would have great food at our wedding. Jon cooked for me on our second date, and we love to bring friends together over meals. Paula LeDuc was incredible at tailoring our menu with the farm-to-table and local foods we love, using fresh vegetables from the venue’s garden, and even making our entire menu gluten-free since I have Celiac disease (our guests never knew what they were missing!). We also had two gluten-free cakes – a tiered wedding cake with blackberry conserve filling created by Forget-Me-Not cakes, and a Norwegian wedding cake (kransekake) made by Jon’s mother, complete with Norwegian, Irish and American flags to represent our heritage.

My husband and I had a great time designing our invitation suite, escort cards, table numbers and ceremony program with Lisa Kasch of Egg Farm Lane. She captured our style – which she dubbed “wine country prep” – and vision from the get-go and helped us hone our color palette for the wedding. We wanted our guests to open our invitations and feel like they were about to embark on a very special and action-packed weekend. Our favorite insert was the personalized map of Napa Valley that highlighted our weekend venues and some of our favorite wine country sites.

These Children Had the Sweetest Gift for Their Parents’ Wedding

Less than 50 people gathered to witness Melanie and Nathan exchange rings and vows at their heartfelt destination wedding in Texas Hill Country. But the sweet, intimate ceremony wasn’t the only heartwarming moment of the evening. Later, after a delicious meal from Cartewheels Catering, a few of the Bride and Groom’s children sang a song as a wedding gift to their newlywed parents. And thankfully Philip Thomas Photography caught it all for us to enjoy in The Vault!

From Philip Thomas PhotographyA charming destination wedding in the hill country of Texas in a small German town called Fredericksburg. Hoffman Haus is an upscale luxury bed and breakfast with a once tobacco barn in the center of the property that has been restored and now called The Great Hall.

The welcome dinner was catered by Cartewheels Catering who served farm to table cuisine under bistro lights and long tables decorated with herbs down the center of the table.

The guests received a welcome farmer’s basket filled with Peach tea, a locally made candle, marinating sauce, and lavender soap from a nearby farm.

The ceremony near a pond on the property with Melanie and Nathan’s closest family and friends, less than 50 people gathered to see them exchange rings and vows. It was heartfelt, sincere, and emotional.

Cartewheels designed another delicious menu for the reception. Dinner and dancing followed inside The Great Hall with pale blush pink and mint green linens with loosely arranged floral in urns and weaved through driftwood, a common thing found in the Texas Hill Country. Watercolored menu cards and place cards by Rachel Nieman at each place setting.

Melanie and Nathan’s love was so apparent as they were surrounded by their children, a few of whom offered a song as their gift to the newlyweds.

This Engagement Session Will Have You Booking a flight to Venice ASAP

As if we needed another reason to packs our bag and move to Venice PRONTO, this engagement session is certainly it. Overflowing with romance, gondola rides, AND the most adorable couple ever, we’ve got it all captured by Thecablookfotolab waiting for you in The Vault!

From ThecablookfotolabThese 2 lovebirds literally stole my heart. I think that people in love is the most harmonious thing ever. The way they look at each other, the way they keep the hands, the way they touch, everything around seem to be electrified by their emotion. For me this shooting was like a movie: so natural and easy. I love so much the idea of a destination engagement! What can be more romantic? Only destination engagement in Venice that ends in the gondola sailing to the sunset.

From the Bride-to-be…Alex was scheduled to go on a 6 month overseas assignment for work in March 2015. The week before he left, we went on a “farewell” road trip up the coast of California. He proposed in Big Sur at sunset on the beach, just the two of us. It was very exciting, but his departure was looming over us. The first six months of our engagement were definitely difficult, as he was in a remote place and had limited access to the internet (even less access to a phone!) So when he came home in September, we wanted to take a special trip to celebrate our engagement and being reunited. We decided to go to Italy because it is so romantic! I wanted to take engagement pictures in Venice so that we would always have a reminder of those happy moments. I found Darya on Style Me Pretty’s vendor guide and fell in love with the style of her photography immediately. It is so natural and filled with emotion. Alex and I were both apprehensive about taking photographs because don’t love having our pictures taken and thought we would feel awkward. However Darya made us feel SO comfortable and natural. She ended up spending the entire day with us, instead of just the few hours we booked her for, and we had such fun getting lost in Venice with her. The day that we thought be a chore ended up being the highlight of our whole trip. We can’t wait to see Darya again, hopefully soon!

This Bride Pushed Up Her Wedding So Her Father Could Walk Her Down the Aisle

Lauren and Bryant had a wedding planned for May, but when they received news that her father’s cancer had spread to his spine, they were told they would need to push up the date if they wanted her father to walk her down the aisle. From Sami Sue StudiosIn January, Lauren shared, “We found out the cancer has spread to his spine. My daddy is the strongest man I know and I know he can get through this! This is in God’s hands and I thank the Lord everyday for every second I have with my first love, Rodney Riales!”

Lauren and Bryant were engaged to be married in May, but they were told if they wanted her father to walk her down the aisle, the wedding needed to be sooner. Thanks to the kind heart and fast thinking of Bethany Veach Photography, an incredible wedding team had volunteered their services for a March 13th wedding, if Lauren and Bryant were up for it! They graciously accepted and we had a wedding. After a week of flooding in Memphis, we had a GORGEOUS day for Mr. and Mrs. Presley. God had his hand over this day and this family.

From The Bride…Standing in the breezeway with my arm through my Daddy’s whom is my first love; pausing just before I walk down the aisle to my future and the love of my life; I am moved to tears by all that surrounds me. The beauty of Annesdale mansion, the fragrance of the flowers me and my bridesmaids carry floating through the air, the scent of delicious food being prepared for us, the music of the violin as I walk down the aisle, the soft light of candles glimmering, and the subtlety of photographers and videographers creating memories of a lifetime all encompass the efforts of the vendors that came together to give their time, money and talent to ensure that my sweet Daddy is able to walk me down the aisle. Our wedding was exquisite in every way down to the smallest detail. To say thank you hardly seems enough but from the bottom of our hearts we are thankful and immensely grateful. I will forever cherish my wedding day and all the memories made.

Why don’t more weddings do this!? Instead of sharing one main cake, let’s spread the sweet love and have a cute confection at every single table! That’s exactly what this wise lady did and I’m a fan! Jacqui Cole captured each adorable treat – and all the other delightful details of this Floridian fete, with Voila Cinematic filming away! From Jacqui Cole PhotographyPatrice and Ashlyn celebrated their marriage at The Vault in Tampa. This venue is a gem for our small city providing a grand historic backdrop while still feeling romantic and warm. The floor to ceiling windows light up the whole ballroom until the sun sets over your wedding day.

Patrice hand picked some incredible details. She absolutely loved her sparkly pink Jimmy Choo’s… I mean, who wouldn’t! Her sleeved, low-back gown fitted her like a glove. Patrice and Ashlyn wanted to make sure Ashlyn’s daughter was included in the portraits. Some of the sweetest moments of the day were as their little flower girl looked up at them both.

Jennifer from Bourbon and Blush Events helped to bring Patrice’s vision to life! The soft romantic blushes’ of the bridesmaids dresses really stood out against the vibrant pops of marsala and golds. This was carried through the reception decor where a unique cake was at the center of every table! The guests were able to cut into their very own personal cakes! Gold flatware, custom calligraphy paper goods and countless textured linens really brought the space to life.

Patrice, Ashlyn and their family and friends danced the night away until they rode off in their vintage car. The entire day was full of magical moments and I thoroughly enjoyed capturing every one of them! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Parker!

The One Room We Want to Eat, Sleep and Breathe in All Summer

If I had a sunroom, I am positive I would eat, sleep and breathe in only that room for all of summer. Truth. They’re a warm-weather dream space and Kendall Simmons and her latest sunny masterpiece are showcasing how to get that sunroom to gold status. A few tricks of the trade and your favorite room will be living up to its full summer potential. See even more captured by Catherine Truman in the VAULT.

My clients for this Sun Room are a sweet family of four who were looking to create a happy living space where they can hang out together, read, and enjoy the sunshine.

The starting point was already pretty special. I mean, how awesome is the hex shape and that stone floor?

I created an intimate seating area, just large enough to hold the family. All of the chairs are swivels for comfort and flexibility.

Swivel chairs are one of the most flexible items of seating that you can buy. They’re comfortable to sit in, but they allow multiple seating arrangements without having to move furniture around each time you want to change it. For example, if you want chairs in a conversation group, but also to be able to reverse them to appreciate the view outside your windows, swivel chairs are the perfect choice!

Because my clients have two small children and a dog, we decided it would be best to use fabrics and rugs that are as stain resistant as possible. The chair fabrics as well as the rug are all indoor/outdoor.

Outdoor fabrics and rugs don’t need to be exclusively used outside. They add extra durability and longevity to homes with kids and pets.

I then added lightly lined gauzy drapery around the entire perimeter of the room that served two purposes – light filtering as well as softness to cover the hard corners. The custom iron rod is made in such a way that it looks continuous.

Strategic color distributed throughout the room lends personality while still maintaining the mostly neutral palette.

If you’re nervous about committing to color in your home, keep it simple by limiting the color to small items such as pillows, lamps and small furniture. That way, if you tire of the color or are ready for a change after a few years, you only have to change out a few small items to reinvent the room.

The excellent vintage-style rattan cart makes a great planting station for my client’s green thumb, but during a party can double as a bar cart.

Carts don’t have to be used exclusively for bars! Consider using them for craft supply storage, holding a record player and records, or a plant stand like I did in this room!

One of my favorite features of this special room is the collection of vintage brass accents throughout. The horse on the cart, and the foot warming stool are personal favorites of mine!
