A Fresh Take on An Industrial Wedding With Serious Pops of Color

I’m never surprised when a graphic designer becomes a bride and her wedding is AMAZING. There’s something about a designer’s knack for aesthetics that always translates to pretty and this day is certainly no exception. It’s a fresh take on the industrial chic style with unexpected moments like ghost chairs for the win. Go see the rehearsal dinner in the gallery, along with every capture by Michelle Boyd.

From Michelle Boyd PhotographyTaylor and Adam were married on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the historic Hotel Emma in San Antonio. (The hotel building was originally The Pearl Brewery’s Brewhouse, which was built in 1894.) Taylor and Adam have special ties to the hotel because both Adam and the bride’s father contributed to its construction.

For the overall design of the space, we drew inspiration directly from the hotel, which combines old world elegance, and a mix of industrial and modern touches. We brought in luxe, patterned linens from La Tavola and ghost chairs for dining. Sprout designed lush florals (seriously, those bouquets!) which added pops of soft, pretty color throughout the space.

The bride is an incredibly talented graphic designer, and she designed all of the paper goods for the day, which included an illustration of the landmark hotel that they love. (Not to mention letterpress for days, gold edge painting, wax seals, and Frou Frou ribbon to bundle each suite together!) Their day-of paper goods also featured modern, acrylic touches.

The hotel itself has a huge culinary emphasis. One of our favorite details from the evening is the gorgeous marble-clad, fully functioning display kitchen, which we flipped three times to use throughout the night: First for sign-in, then for cocktail hour (the chef prepped and served appetizers from this space!), and finally for an incredible dessert display, complete with three cakes and hundreds of assorted pastries.

Following dinner, toasts, and desserts, The Night Owls opened the dance floor and kept everyone dancing (and singing!) until Taylor and Adam’s sparkler departure. After a quick wardrobe change, they joined the after-party where Matthew Rubio with the Flashdance played to a packed room until the early morning.

Working with Taylor and Adam and their families was a dream. They are kind, talented, and so very in love. So thankful for the incredible team behind this day that pulled together to achieve every thoughtful, beautifully executed detail for this sweet couple.

The Perfect Something Old? This Bride’s Veil Made from Her Grandmother’s Wedding Dress

The purpose of “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue” is to walk down the aisle with treasures from the people who mean the most to you (that, and good luck). This beautiful Bride accomplished exactly that, wearing her grandmother’s veil as she walked down the aisle to her future husband.  And this special day only gets better from there thanks to Scott Corridan Design. See it all from The Edges Wedding Photography and Johnny B Films in The Vault!

From East River PRAustin, Texas based Scott Courtney wed Jenna Dailey in a gorgeous destination wedding in the California wine country that reflected an interesting mix of elegance combined with an outdoorsy style.

The couple desired an outdoor location that was naturally beautiful but which could also be exceptionally elegant. As soon as they saw Chalk Hill Estate, they knew they had found their venue. Beautiful white flowers and greenery complimented gold accents. The ceremony took place outside, overlooking the lush vineyard and California’s foothills. Dinner was held on the terrace of the pavilion at Chalk Hill and the celebration later moved inside for dancing.

Especially inspired was the unique way in which the couple decided to share dinner service. With black ties on, they called on the traditions of “Hill Country BBQ”, and while they didn’t serve barbecue, dinner was served from a single raised chef’s table with six chefs in attendance mixing up and putting the final “fixins” on every aspect of the bride and groom’s favorite foods. Guests came and went, meandered, stopped and chatted…as they filled their plates, and their tummies…in a way that can best be described as “down home.”

Jenna and Scott’s love story is one of modern romance. They met in college and became friends who stayed in touch for years until Scott’s last year of law school when they started dating and commuting back and forth between Dallas and Austin to see each other. Scott proposed on Christmas Eve overlooking Lake Austin, under the pretense of going to decorate a Christmas tree on Hwy 360, an Austin tradition. After decorating their first tree together, they spent the rest of the evening celebrating Christmas Eve and their engagement with family.

Jenna wore a Rebecca Schoneveld dress by Schone Bride in Brooklyn along with Christian Louboutin shoes. Her veil was made from her grandmother’s wedding dress. We have details on every aspect of the wedding that we’d be happy to share if you are interested. Also, below is a selection of images to preview. The pictures really tell the story of this stand-out celebration.

10 Things You Need for the Cutest Ever Fourth of July Picnic

July is my jam. I might be a little biased (hello, birthday month!), but really, who doesn’t love July? It’s filled with sunny beach days, family vacations and of course, Independence Day—my very favorite holiday. Not to mention, it’s an opp for al fresco entertaining at it’s best. This year, I’m loving the idea of a daytime picnic followed by sunset sparklers and a sweet scene like this one from Minted. See all the ingredients you need to get the party started below!

The Two Ring Trends Your Favorite Celebrities Are Obsessed With

For your favorite Hollywood stars, when it comes to diamonds, more is definitely more. It’s why you’re seeing so many leading ladies wearing not one, but many wedding bands. According to Oded Edelman, the CEO and co-founder of James Allen, multiple stackable bands in mixed metals are the hottest jewelry trend right now for brides and the stars.

With stars like Blake Lively, Whitney Port and Reese Witherspoon leading the way, it’s a trend we can definitely get behind. After all, why settle for one wedding band when you can have more! And the best part? You can add bands for major occasions (anniversaries, holidays, babies and more!) until your finger is covered in diamonds!

Ballet-Inspired Details Helped This Bride Dance Down the Aisle

Each and every inch of this Temecula Valley wedding from Marisa Nicole is dripping in romance and organic beauty. With a color palette of blush, wine, raspberry, mauve, purple and gray, details like organic-inspired flowers from Enchanted Garden Floral Design and personal touches from the Bride and Groom’s passions (her background is in dance; his is in hockey) truly wow. See it all, thanks to Andrew Abajian, in The Vault!

From Marisa Nicole EventsThuy-Van & Steward got married in wine country, at Temecula Creek Inn’s Stone House venue. The couple wanted to host a celebration that reflected who they are as a couple, generally laid back with just a splash of fancy and a ton of fun! We worked with them to create a look that was swoonfully romantic, naturally organic, and with aesthetic variety around every corner. The stone house at Temecula Creek Inn is surrounded by trees, so it gave us a lovely rustic base that we added layers of personal and design-forward details.

We worked with a pallet of diluted hues paired with bold pops, incorporating wine, raspberry, Mauve, Blush, Deep Purple, Blackberry, Light Grey, Dark Grey, and touches of greyish blue. We used a mix of textures, a variety of lines and tons of glow throughout the space. We paired farm wooden tables with neutral light and textured hemstitch runner and napkins to serve as a base for our florals. We used a lush garland with big ruffled blooms and candles woven throughout to create a full sense of full-on romantic enchantment on the guest dining tables.

With Thuy-Van’s background in dance and Stewart’s background in hockey, we had lots of fun sprinkling a few of their personal items around the space. The bride’s own sister did all the chalk art and the bride herself handmade the watercolor seating cards. Amongst the fancy dining and fab decor, the couple wanted their guests to experience a playful, light-hearted celebration. They offered a photo booth, lawn games and glow-ball (glow in the dark golf) on the on-site course. Inside the stonehouse, we brought in comfortable, yet luxe, lounge furniture, board games galore and an array of bite-sized treats that would satisfy even the most potent of sweet tooths! Everyone danced, ate and played the night away and a legendary time was had by all!

From The Bride…Our favorite part of the whole wedding weekend was seeing our two families merging so seamlessly. It was so heart-warming to look around and see everyone mingling and laughing, and now they’re all friends on Facebook! As for our favorite aspect of the wedding design, it had to be what I’m calling “cohesive variety.” You know that we emphasized variety in everything, in the colors and textures, in the ceremony readings, in the food, in the music (Patty Griffin, Star Wars, Dean Martin, The Nutcracker transitioning into the Beatles), in the activities (lawn games, glow ball, s’mores, photo booth), etc. Our highest priority was for all the guests to find something they enjoyed. We wanted the wedding to have something for everyone, but we still wanted it to feel like us. We like so many things, and it could have been a big old mess, but Marisa, our wedding planner, made everything come together in a really classy way.

All the Floral Inspiration a Girl Could Ever Need

CJK Visuals, what can I say – I’m absolutely obsessed. Because this inspiration? It’s what every Bride-to-be dreams about. From the unbelievably beautiful bouquet, to the cozy table setting, we’ve got all that and so, so much more waiting for you to Pin in The Vault!

From CJK VisualsI was finally flying home from a three month trip backpacking around the Eastern hemisphere when I realized, shoot- I left a bag of film in my checked backpack on my last flight from Bali to Australia. For any type A, super organized person, this wouldn’t be an issue, they’d get the bag out of their suitcase when they got home, test a roll to see if there was any damage, and the move on. But unfortunately for me, I’d mixed and matched all my bags of film so much that I’d forgotten which film bag I had actually LEFT in the checked luggage, so it could’ve been any one of the SIX quart sized ziplock bags filled with unexposed film that could be damaged. I realized I’d have to test a roll from each bag to see which bag (if, fingers crossed, any) had the x-ray damage.

So, only my 14 and a half hour flight home from a layover in Abu Dhabi, I bought wifi on the plane and messaged some of my favorite humans in the world: my friendors! While flying over some part of the Middle East/Eastern Europe/Who knows Where, I ended up setting a shoot for the day after I landed- complete with hair, makeup, dress, model, florals, invitation suite- the whole shebang! I knew I wanted to use one of the gorgeous Theia gowns sold at the newest bridal store in Annapolis, Wren, so once I contacted Adriana from Adriana Marie Events to design something featuring one of these gowns, we moved forward and started planning the shoot for my first day back in the states!

I am so thankful to every last minute vendor who put this delicate spring inspired shoot together. From the gorgeous bouquet, made with rosemary and pops are pink petaled florals, to the cozy tablescape, this shoot encompasses the lovely and warm transition into spring and summer weather weddings!

5 Ways to Make Your Wedding Flowers Last Longer

MustWatch_swash-01

Barefeet. Crystal Clear Water. Tropical Flowers. This is the Ultimate Beach Wedding

Close your eyes and picture a wedding in paradise. Chances are, it looks a lot like this gorgeous destination wedding in St. John from Island Style Weddings. With a ceremony in the sand, a tented reception with the sea breeze in the air and tropical flowers in vibrant hues, every detail of this wedding is absolute perfection. See it all from Elisha Orin in The Vault!

From Island Style WeddingsIn November 2014, I designed Marilyn and Glen’s wedding. We bonded and had a great time speaking each week, getting to know each and planning a wedding that was 15 years in the making.

Marilyn’s daughter Meaghan attended the wedding however she was MIA a lot during the reception. As we all know, wedding can be an emotional time and I thought she was maybe she was feeling a little sad.

Little did I know that she was upstairs talking on the phone to a handsome gent she had just begun to date.

I was delighted to get a call from her asking me to design her wedding! What a celebration it was! I was thrilled that she had found such a kind and loving man in Brad.

Family and friends came together, went sailing, beaching and dancing the night away. I am only sorry that she is an only child…..maybe Marilyn can adopt someone so we can plan another wedding together.

Meghan and Brad, you are so in love and it radiated throughout the week. So much love and joy, isn’t that what weddings are all about? Thank you for choosing to work with us, we loved every minute.

Marriage Matters: The Sweetest 10 Year Vow Renewal

Ryan and Talie have officially delivered #marriagegoals. Because these cuties? They’re a decade in and still having the best time ever. With two sweet babies and Brandon Chesbro on hand, they renewed their vows in an intimate ceremony that you’re sure to love. See it all in The Vault!

From the Bride… When our ten year anniversary came around, my husband Ryan and I decided that renewing our vows was a the best way to commemorate the past decade of our lives together. We wanted it to be just us and our two daughters, an intimate and memorable moment for our small family. Our friend, Brandon, is an amazing photographer, and we couldn’t imagine having anyone else capture the moment, so we traveled from our home in Atlanta to Nashville, where Brandon lives, for the event. We both adore the countryside on the outskirts of town, and so Brandon chose a gorgeous farm and field for our renewal. We were grateful for perfect weather and children who stayed mostly put together as they ran around gathering dandelions while Ryan and I had our small ceremony of sorts. We chose to cold-read our original vows to one another, and it was beautiful and emotional to hear those same words so many years later. Their meaning and promises meant that much more a decade further into our relationship. It was the perfect way for us to revisit and remember the people we were way back then, and when halfway through our reading my oldest daughter brought me a flower and asked that I hold her so that she could hear her daddy’s words to me, it was the perfect picture of who we are today. The evening was exactly what we wanted it to be, the perfect picture of life then and now, a small celebration that we’ll always remember fondly.

Fresh flowers are key! They brighten up the space and also have the power to change up the room a little adding some flair if bright, or softness if neutral.

#SMPWedding101 – Choosing the Perfect Photography + Cinematography Team

While you put thought and care into selecting each one of your wedding vendors, did you also think about how well they’d all work together? Of all these relationships, your photographer and cinematographer are pretty key – they’re the gatekeepers to those post-vows very important items. So who better to get insight on this important partnership than Love by Serena and Josh Gooden, who often work together (as Josh & Serena) as a team, delivering the best possible finished results for their couples.

When it comes to hiring both a photographer and cinematographer for your wedding day, there’s a lot to consider. Every artist has their own unique style and approach to creating visual imagery, so making sure these vendors are a cohesive, collaborative, and professional team is vital to receiving the best quality end product.

The main benefit to hiring an all-inclusive photo and cinema vendor team is that you’ll have one main point of contact and they will already know how to work seamlessly to capture your day in both mediums. However, we understand this isn’t always an option, based on the vendor of your choosing, style of work or availability.

If you plan to hire separate photo and cinema teams, we recommend you ask your first-hired vendor for suggestions for the other half of the team. Experienced wedding photographers and cinematographers will typically have a recommendation for someone who they know works well with their own style of shooting. If your photographer and cinematographer team’s styles are not cohesive, it not only affects the final photo and video products, but can also create tension or conflict between the photographer and cinematographer on your wedding day.

When building your own photo + cinema team, remember these essential factors:

Consider Style + Approach

There are many approaches to documenting a wedding, but the majority of modern day professional photographers fall into the categories of editorial, photojournalist or a blend of the two. Editorial style photographers are typically detail-oriented and prep their clients in advance for clean images. This may include tidying up a room before getting dressed into wedding attire. Photojournalist style photographers may make several suggestions leading up to the day, but will typically capture moments as they happen.

Likewise, there are a variety of approaches and styles of filming a wedding day as a cinematographer. Some cinematographers film in high-definition, 4K, Super 8mm, Super 16mm or a blend of analog film and digital cameras. Some cinematographers prep their clients with creative direction for artistic shots, while others document the day as an event. Being on the same page for these various styles helps to achieve a cohesive final product all around.

In addition to shooting style, the editing style plays a key role on the wedding day. Some cinematographers build their films to music (without any spoken audio), while other cinematographers are audio-driven. Audio driven cinematographers typically tell the story of the day through a narrative – such as audio from dinner toasts, ceremony vows and written letters. Clean audio is also important to the quality of an audio-driven film. If you are choosing an audio-driven cinematographer to document your wedding day, make sure to consult with both your photographer and cinematographer regarding their individual needs for receiving the highest quality photo and video products.

Consider Lighting

There are many different styles of photography, but the majority of photographers are either primarily natural light based or artificial light based. Natural light based photographers typically shoot with no artificial lighting – unless deemed necessary. They may use artificial lighting for parts of the wedding day, but typically only for indoor, dark or late night portrait photographs. Artificial light based photographers will typically set up off-camera lighting for both indoor and outdoor photographs.

The majority of cinematographers rely on consistent lighting conditions for a beautiful end product, whether that be consistent natural light or a video light.

Consider Experience

Regardless of the style you choose for your wedding day, hiring an experienced wedding photography and cinematography team is a one of the best decisions that can be made when planning your day! Most seasoned professionals have worked together with a variety of wedding vendors. Having the skill and knowledge of working weddings is key to anticipating and capturing moments on one of the most important days of your life!

Temecula Creek Inn’s Stone House was the perfect setting for this enchanting wedding which was attended by A-list celebrities and other former Miss USA beauty contestants. Nia surprised everyone on her big day with a convertible dress that she chose during her taping of Say Yes To The Dress at Kleinfield’s in New York City. The episode and wedding will tonight!

From the beautiful lounge areas, to the fun bridal parties, to the oh so special first touch & prayer, the day was absolutely timeless and magical. Daniel’s father officiated the wedding, which took place in the gorgeous glimmer of golden light. The entire day was beyond wonderful.

The Ultimate Modern Wedding Inspiration

How incredibly beautiful is this inspiration?! It’s enough to make anyone want to say “I do” again. From the Bride’s beautiful updo, to the lovely all white bouquet, Blueberry Photography has captured all that (and SO much more), and we’ve got it all just waiting for you to favorite in The Vault!

From Blueberry PhotographyThe Art of Broken Pieces

“… to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part.”

Often when we talk about marriage, we focus on the joyful memories when love is most abundant and overflowing. What we tend to neglect are the moments of doubt, anger, sadness, and fear. It is in these times from which a true love is built, through the prospect of letting a relationship fade away. We reflect on the totality of it all, from conception to the hypothetical future, and the authenticity of each other’s emotions. Here is where we decide to give up or to keep pushing forward, learning each other’s quirks, knowing when to let go of an argument, to discern pettiness from principle, and to understand how to be a selfless companion. This is the kiln that forges the vessel where love remains.

That vessel is what we hope to exemplify with Kintsugi, the Japanese art of rejoining broken ceramic pieces with gold lacquer. The philosophy behind this practice embraces values of restoration and finding beauty in imperfection. The photo shoot we present to you is a blend of simple design with a complex message that lies within the gold-filled cracks of each ceramic plate.

Want a Dreamy Engagement Session? Take Cues from This Couple!

We’re suckers for a dreamy, light-filled photo sessions and Sally Pinera always delivers. She took to the golden hills of Malibu with the sweetest soon-to-be’s and every last image is sitting in The Vault. Go treat yourself to a little pre-weekend eye candy treat…we won’t tell.

From The Bride…Michael and I met through a modern-day dating app where we both laid eyes on each other before swiping “yes.” Several text messages later, we had our first date at a unique Japanese restaurant in Santa Monica. The date was full of conversation that was comfortable and lighthearted, it was like seeing a friend we’ve known for years. Our connection was instant and from day one, we couldn’t wait to make memories and grow in love together.

Since the first day I met him, Michael has been such a romantic. Throughout our dating he would quietly write notes in his phone anytime I would mention things I loved (food, wine, travel, etc) and surprised me with adventures along the way. After a year of dating, Michael surprised me with a vacation to Jamaica, where I wondered if this is where he would plan to pop the question. Little did I know that the weekend before our vacation, when Michael took me to Santa Ynez, CA for a weekend wine tour, he had secret plans to pop the question. After taking me to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Ynez, we drove along the valley where Michael turned off the road to show me a beautiful lake nearby. As the sun was setting, Michael surprised me with a proposal full of tears and laughter where I couldn’t wait to say, “yes” to him again.

When we were engaged, we knew there was no better place to have our intimate wedding and engagements than in southern California. We immediately fell in love with Malibu, CA with its rolling golden hills, vibrant beaches, and lush vineyards. I can hardly believe it’s a month away till we become husband and wife, and couldn’t be more excited for our wedding at Saddlerock Ranch.

Contemporary Elopement Complete with an Off-The-Rack Gown You Need to Own

Forget a custom ordered gown, who says you can’t wear on off-the-rack dress on your Big Day? No one, that’s who. Thankfully Nastja Kovacec Photography agrees which is why she snapped up this stunning elopement inspiration to share. See it all unfold in The Vault!

From Nastja Kovacec PhotographyI fell in love with Grožnjan back in 2013. This little village hasn’t really been on my radar as it is as secludes as it gets, with very little tourists wandering around. However, it is a perfect spot for a relaxed session away from the crowds, or to enjoy the view of the rolling hills. This inspirational shoot has been on my mind for two years, but only now the timing was perfectly right to organise it, and to unite all of the vendors I admire in one session. I’m so grateful for this group of people who share my vision and are always so willing to participate.

Inspired by old streets of Grožnjan, slate-blue theme, organic materials and the dreamy light, this shoot is definitely my favourite so far.
Not only Grožnjan is a perfect backdrop for photos, it is also a very intimate little place, amazing for honeymoon, it being only minutes away from the sea.

We went for a timelessly elegant outfits, with a very edgy headpiece for the bride, and subtle yet gorgeous make up.
We dreamt of a gorgeous, symmetrical bundle of florals in different shades of pink and a bit of greens. Meta from Sanjski Šopek did an amazing job combining beautiful peonies, ranunculus and roses with something as unexpected as garden and tree blooms, and some loose greens.
The wedding cake is very minimalistic. Seeing as Grožnjan is surrounded by countless olive groves Pcakes chose to decorate the cake with some olive branchlets finished with gold spray, while the blue marble fondant makes the cake even more elegant and classy.

But what make this shoot even better, were the ever so special weather conditions in Istria. The light is especially dreamy and lovely for portraits, cobbled streets and old buildings make the couple pop out nicely, while the sunset light warms the heart, and makes you want to move to Croatia and live in one of those old town apartments forever.
