5 of the Sweetest Nursery Paint Colors that aren’t Pink or Blue

We go a little crazy for nurseries. They are just so dang cute and designing that dreamy space starts with the perfect paint. We teamed up with Home Depot and Behr to show you five gorgeous options for your little one’s nursery without a lick of pink or blue in the bunch. Check out our 5 favorites and get the matching Behr paint look below. And for even more nursery inspiration, click here.

Bright White

Bright white is one of our favorite ways to design a nursery. It’s a total blank canvas perfecting for adding a pop of color and pattern with decor and accessories. Get the look with Behr Ultra Pure White.

Creamy Neutrals

Not on the modern white bandwagon? Then a creamy neutral shade that’s soft and plays well with blushing hues is just what the doctor ordered. Get the look with Behr Snow Day.

Barely there Gray

Somewhere inbetween white and dark gray lies this barely there shade that compliments any and all spaces and is a homerun when designing a gender neutral nursery. Get the look with Behr French Heirloom.

Warm and Cozy Gray

For a warm and cozy feel try using a deeper hued gray like this gorgeous shade. It’s soft and comforting but still makes a statement. Get the look with Behr Best in Show.

Fresh Pastel Green

If a non-neutral paint color that doesn’t fall into any gender specific catagories is what you’re after then this fresh pastel green is a winner. Get the look with Behr Pale Cucumber

Rustic Boho Chic Farm Wedding in Mexico

If Kate Moss and the Country of Mexico collaborated, we think it would equate to this incredibly CHIC wedding. Don’t believe us? Just take one glance at the gallery from Anne Blodgett Photography and we have a feeling you’ll be hard-pressed to argue otherwise. Because tucked away in the beautiful mango groves of Flora Farms, TJ + Cristina’s planned the ultimate intimate wedding and we’ve got it all right here.

From Anne Blodgett PhotographyTJ + Cristina’s intimate wedding was tucked away in the beautiful mango groves of Flora Farms in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico (although their first look was at the hip and trendy Hotel el Gonzo a few minutes away). The bride’s effortless lace dress from Spell Designs in Australia fit the laid back vibe (the bride was inspired by a boho theme), and Amy Abbott Events executed the ceremony and reception perfectly with modern, yet farm-to-table flair. The bride crafted several decor items herself, including the table numbers and seating chart. She was particularly excited about the Mexican tile favors she found for each of her guests to take home.

Chic Shoes + Pink Peonies Set Our Stylish Hearts Aflutter

What do you get when you take a gorgeous English Bride and her dapper Groom, add in some very, very chic fashion choices (hello Inbal Dror!) and place them all in a “is this even real life” French chateau? One wedding to remember. French Grey Photography and Zen Film Works captured all of the dreams as they came true at Chateau La Duratie and our Vault is looking quite fashionably fine with it all!

From French Grey Photography… The late spring wedding of this fashion-oriented bride and groom from England was my first wedding of the year at Chateau la Durantie. The Chateau and the stylish couple went hand in hand and the event was filled with beautiful details on every level! The bride wore a very sexy and form fitting Inbal Dror gown and the groom matched his bride’s sexiness with his Louboutin red soled shoes.

Every space in the Chateau was filled with beautiful florals that made the place smell incredible. And the stylish guests enjoyed the atmosphere in this French Chateau until the very early hours of the morning!

Peonies, Paper Parasols & A White Horse. This Wedding is a Fairytale IRL

You know that wedding you dreamed about as a little girl. Simply put…this is it. An epic high-low dress. Pink peonies by the buckets – quite literally. Floating paper parasols above an al fresco reception. And a white horse with flower-adorned mane. I can hardly believe this day is real life, so join me in the gallery by Peter & Veronika to see for yourself.

From The Bride…Our wedding was about being with our friends and family and celebrating in a beautiful place. Working in food, I definitely wanted that to be a big part of the week. Will proposed in provence at the hotel de tourrel (location of our rehearsal dinner) so it made sense for us to return to a place that was so magical for us. We tried to show our friends and family the best of what we had experienced there. I have incredibly talented bridesmaids who helped with so many of the aspects of the wedding from hair and makeup to flowers.

See what Crazy Cool Baby Name inspired this Nursery’s Paint Color

With a name like Navy James, this little girl is destined to be the coolest kid on the block. And her nursery is just the kind of modern bohemian dream space you’d imagine little Navy would sleep in every night. Designed by a mom with a killer sense of style and an allergy to overly girly decor, this nursery masterpiece was born. See so much more captured by Jillian Rose Photography in the VAULT.

As an uber stylish mama of two boys, the moment Ashley found out she was pregnant with a baby girl she immediately started the design process for her nursery.

With a self proclaimed allergy to lavender, ruffles and anything shabby chic, she wanted her little darling to have a unique, modern, boho room that was mostly gender neutral with girly accents.

Thinking she would always be a boys mom, the pressure was on to have the perfect nursery for her daughter, Navy James.

A Ballroom Wedding Fit For a Princess

When wedding planner Danielle of The Stylish Detail set out to design her own big day, she knew it had to be special.  “As a planner, you sit back and watch so many beautiful love stories come to life and all of this time I have waited for my turn! It was finally here…I knew this would be my chance to create my fairytale wedding.” The result? A completely classic ballroom affair with so many meaningful details, including a video tribute to her late father during the traditional daddy-daughter dance. Dyanna LaMora captured and we’re welcoming every moment into The Vault.

From the couple…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

As an event/wedding planner it’s so very hard to envision all of the magical details you will one day pull together as your own. Working in some of the most iconic venues in New York City, I have seen it all! From the grandeur of The Plaza Hotel to the iconic Waldorf Astoria, my dreams of a bride have always been grand! As a planner you sit back and watch so many beautiful love stories come to life and all of this time I have waited for my turn! It was finally here after almost 12 years of being together with my best friend and knew this would be my chance to create my fairytale wedding.

Scott proposed at our favorite spot in NYC, The Central Park Zoo with over 50 family and friends that secretly watched from afar around the sea lion tank. As soon as he got down on one knee and I said yes to the ring, everyone ran out to celebrate! It was the most magical moment of my life and knew the celebration to follow had to be as over the top as the proposal!

As we started to search for the perfect backdrop to our special day, I knew we needed to find a modern, yet timeless setting…all of course in NJ! I have always envisioned a black tie wedding set in a beautiful ballroom filled with candlelight. The quintessential venue would be draped in chandeliers, have a white dance floor and touches of ornate decor to create a classic affair. I knew if I took the lead in finding a venue, we would probably still be looking! Therefore, I let Scott lead the search and the minute we both stepped into his first choice, The Grove- I knew we would not have to look any further!

It was everything I had ever envisioned as a little girl, including the cascading staircase leading into the room. Over 12 chandeliers hung from the ballroom ceiling and one of the largest dance floors I have ever seen! It was elegance and charm all in one and we knew we had found our venue!

If you asked any of our friends or family, they would describe us as “over the top”! We love life and all it has to offer and would were ready to celebrate in style.

What was your color palette and style vision?

I went with a classic romance theme. Our wedding was designed on a palette of soft pastels, creams, champagnes, greys, pale pinks and a mix of gold, silver and lace. Touches of crystal detail followed on my dress and hair piece and were also carried into the bridesmaid dresses for the added glitz of the night.

I wanted to highlight the room with the custom white dance floor and added grey custom monogram for a personal touch. I also softened the room with an added chiffon drape on the far wall and projected specialty lighting to add a special ambiance to the ballroom. Together it created a backdrop that was the perfect touch to our overall décor. Warm-intimate-elegant!

Our vision was to create a timeless yet regal wedding that would not look dated 50 years from now. Beautiful bunches of tall calla lilies draped over the guests surrounded by floating flowers in mercury glass. I am also a hopeless romantic, so the touches of candlelight throughout the reception and the lace detail on my dress completed our overall vision of the night.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

The most unique element to me would be the white dance floor as well as the gobos projected onto the wall. In a matter of minutes, it transformed the space into something that literally took our breath away.

Another unique element was our head table. We decided, we wanted to bring our families and generations together for the first time and created a head table for 12. We have our entire lives to spend together but would never have the chance to share this moment with the ones we love most.

As I am an event designer as well, I knew I would consume myself with so many DIY and lose sight of the day. Therefore, for the first time ever I left the details and décor to the professionals and I LOVED it!

What was your favorite moment? Your favorite crafted detail?

The tribute to my father who had lost his battle with cancer was such a meaningful moment to me. I had struggled for years on how I would handle this difficult day without him and knew I would honor my dad in the best possible way. Months before the wedding, I had compiled home videos of him and I dancing and worked closely with our videographer to create a short clip to be shown that evening. It was the perfect addition to the night and knew he was in fact with me for our dance.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Flowers:
From the beginning I did not want to design a typical wedding. I have seen it all from the flower walls to the orchid trees. I had always envisioned a classic simple design that made an impact. My amazing florist had recommended using tall bunches of white calla lilies based in a tall fluted vase surrounded by smaller mercury glass with floating candles. It was the perfect combination of bold hues for an eye-catching display. We also did (3) long tables in a mix of rounds that surrounded the dance floor. The guests were covered in a canopy of white orchids, as pale pink and champagne colored flowers filled the tabletop in smaller vases. It was perfection in every way and exactly what I had envisioned.

My bridesmaids had carried precious bouquets of pastel colored flowers wrapped in light pink ribbon, as I carried a large bouquet of all my favorite flowers in soft pinks and creams with a small picture frame that carried my dads picture.

Gown:
The hunt was on! For months I traveled far and wide to find the perfect dress. Appointment after appointment, I thought I would never find the ONE. I was telling myself to settle because I was running out of time. However, what bride would ever settle for the DRESS! I wouldn’t and just then I stepped into the Pronovias showroom and tried on the Barquilla Gown and it happened! That twirling Cinderella moment that every brides gushes over! After that moment each and every detail just fell into place! The gown was a fitted mermaid dress in tulle with a sweetheart neckline, rebrode’ lace appliques , adorned with crystal gemstone embroidery. The bottom skirt had two layers of lace and a scalloped hem.

Cake:
We wanted a very simple but yet rustic design for our wedding cake wrapped with beautiful flowers. Palermo’s Bakery did just that! They amazed us with a four-tiered white frosted buttercream cake in strawberry and cream with the top tier in cannoli cream! I had our florist customize a lush garland accented with peonies and roses to surround the cake. Our topper completed the fairytale and stayed our theme of the day as “It Was Always You” in gold. It was perfect!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Pick your venue first and then let all of the other pieces fall into place.

Intimate Family Focused Wedding – With the Cutest Ring Bearers Ever!

At the Groom’s family’s vineyard, on a hill overlooking postcard worthy views, right where his father and his brother also said “I do,” he married his beautiful Bride. It was one family-focused detail among many, giving this California spring wedding a warm, inviting vibe that you just can’t fake. Mariel Hannah captured that love and her pics speak for themselves – see them all in our Vault right this way!

From Mariel Hannah… Liz and Lucas married within Lucas’ family vineyard, Dubost Winery. Countless members within this tight knit family married under that beautiful and special Oak tree, so it was no question that they would marry there as well. The views were stunning, over looking the rolling hills of Paso Robles as the sun set behind them.

From the Bride… Lucas and I had three words in mind when planning our wedding; simple, timeless, and intimate. Family is incredibly important to us. We wanted each moment in our wedding to hold special meaning to us and our families. Lucas started by giving me his grandmother’s ring while asking me to marry him with our families by our side. We then designed my wedding band using his grandmother’s diamonds. We used a design that she had previously worn. We chose to hold the ceremony and reception at his family’s winery, Dubost Winery. The ceremony itself was held at the top of the property nestled in the Oaks. Both his father and brother had held their individual wedding ceremonies there. The top of the hill, as we call it, is treasured and holds very special meaning to each one of his family members and now, us.

Keeping the family traditions going, I was gifted “borrowed” pearl earrings and pearl necklaces from my grandmother. They were originally my great-grandmother’s and each woman in my family wore them on their wedding day; including my late mother.

The most special part for both me and Lucas was the ceremony. Before walking down the aisle, my father had said some of the most special and treasured words to me. We laughed, we cried (I cried a lot) and then I got to see Lucas for the first time. We chose not to do a first look and I am so happy we did. Our emotions were so raw, and we felt it to be incredibly special to each of us. We chose to write our own words of love, which we shared with each other for the first time in front of our family and friends. It could not have felt more intimate and meaningful.

For the reception, we wanted it to be fun and relaxed. We especially wanted to highlight the beauty of the winery. We chose grey and cream accented heavily with olive branches. Each person received homemade peanut clusters that were my late mother’s famous recipe as the favor. We celebrated with good food music, dancing, a photo booth, and the most delicious cookies, cupcakes and ice cream!

Every moment from beginning to end, felt like us. It was our most favorite day!!!

From the Bride… Mike and I met while he was living in Syracuse and I was in Manhattan. We were both invited to a New Years’ Eve party by friends-of-friends and after a few (too many) cocktails hit it off! After spending a year long-distance, Mike finally moved to the city. Fast forward two years later, and Mike proposed while we were on a tour of the Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate in the Hudson Valley. Though we got engaged in May 2015, Mike had gifted me the tour for my birthday in January and spent 6 months preparing the surprise. During the tour while the rest of the group walked ahead, he pulled me aside in the flower garden and popped the question!

We were off to the (planning) races a few days after the engagement! I think figuring out the location, wedding coordinator, photographer and band (if you choose one!) were probably the four biggest hurdles for us. After those were knocked out, things started to fall into place. And, once you’ve figured out what city you’ll be getting married in, I actually found that the best way to source vendors is through a Style Me Pretty search! I looked through each wedding featured on SMP in the Clearwater / Tampa area and plucked the vendors I thought did an exceptional job from each of those posts. Each and every vendor I worked with was spectacular – I enthusiastically recommend them to each friend considering their nuptials in the area.

A Study Partner Turned Lifetime Love

As fellow sunset admirers, the proposal Craig planned for his beloved is totally speaking our love language. Even more so? He asked his beautiful Bride if they would return to Florence one day to be married. Fast forward two years later and this duo returned to their favorite city to become husband and wife, inviting Facibeni Fotografia to capture it all. Witness their beautiful beginning in The Vault!

MustWatch_swash-01

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/169548224 600 338]

From The Bride…Craig and I first met studying together in 2004. At only 19 I fell completely in love with his beautiful kind heart. Our relationship progressed as we slowly set up our future together, and after 8 years he proposed. It was the most incredibly surreal moment I have ever felt. We were on a holiday traveling through Europe, when one beautiful evening in Florence we stood on the Santa Trinita bridge, to the left a view of the Ponte Vecchio and to the right the sun setting over the Arno river. I have always told Craig, sunset is my favourite part of the day as I love watching the colours of the sky change. It was then he dropped to one knee, told me he loved me and asked me if I want to return to Florence one day as husband and wife. With tears streaming down my face I said yes, never thinking almost exactly two years later we would return to our favourite city to become husband and wife.

Our dream wedding was set in the beautiful Villa La Vedetta overlooking the city of Florence, Italy.

The original plan was to get married in our home town Melbourne, Australia with a guest list of 120 people. With the venue booked, and plans unfolding, my Grandmother sadly lost her battle to cancer 9 months prior to our wedding date. With heavy hearts we continued with the preparations, never anticipating losing my Grandfather 3 months later. With a giant void in my life, this great loss was enough for us to reassess what we truly believed our wedding should be. The decision was made to cut our losses and stay true to ourselves, to travel to a beautiful destination with our closest friends and family, and what place would be more meaningful than Florence.

Upon first sight of Villa La Vedetta, we knew we had made the right decision, it was the most beautiful property we had ever laid eyes on.

I woke up unusually calm, being a hairdresser I started on my bridesmaids hair, I completed the four girls as well as my own before the make up began. I chose a beautiful silk and lace Steven Khalil dress, Yves Saint Laurent Heels and Dior pearl earrings, whilst Craig wore a classic custom made tuxedo.

Once I was dressed my mother handed me a ring my grandfather had given her, it was a pearl and topaz ring. This was my something old, borrowed and blue, along with a lace and pearl horse-shoe she had made for me for my something new.

From the immaculate gardens we held the ceremony, to the reception on the terrace under the Tuscan sun, we watched the city light up as we ate under the stars. Our decorations were simple white flowers with touches of gold to reflect the history of this beautiful city, without detracting from the view.

There could not be a more beautiful day imagined, with 40 of our nearest and dearest traveling from Melbourne, Australia to share the most magical experience of our lives. It was simplicity meets grandeur combing our decoration with the villa and views. After 10 years Craig and I have shared together, with our love for family, friends, travel, and our engagement in Florence, this day encapsulated everything we ever wanted, needed or dreamed possible.

Our honeymoon was spent on the Amalfi Coast, Isle of Capri, South of France, and the Greek Islands. This entire experience will always be the most vivid memory of our lives.

Parisian Bridal Inspo Meets Miami Beach

If you’re looking to infuse your wedding day with a touch of Parisian style, minus the French location – this inspiration shoot from BlueSpark Photography and The Creative’s Loft is for you. Featuring gorgeous calligraphy moments from Papel & Co., there’s lots of little details to inspire your big day and beyond.

From The Creative’s LoftSet in the heart of Miami Beach, The Miami Beach Woman’s Club is the city’s newest and most unique spot for a perfect wedding. Tucked into the intimately beautiful Collins Park neighborhood, today’s Chic Parisian Bridal Styled Shoot it’s sure to inspire with its soft color palette, natural flowers, a heartbreaking young bride and a dress that seems taken from a fairy tale. Miami Wedding Planner The Creative’s Loft (Adriana Cadet) teamed up with Blue Sparks Photography and Simple Rustic / Simple Florals to style the setting with lush, gorgeous flowers, Parisian decor and design as well as some relic handmade eco-gold jewels designed by the famous Lia Terni. The whole team was inspired by a Parisian Touch & Style; from the bridal gown from Anne Barge (provided by Opera D’Arte Bridal Boutique) to the headpieces, the make up, the flowers, the table decor and…last but not least, the stunning and delicious dessert table, with sweet bites from a local French Bakery; Buena Vista Deli, located in the heart of the Miami Design District.

Adriana Cadet shares that the whole team was most inspired by bringing Paris to this venue located in the middle of a very Tropical Area; adding a French Touch to every single element we incorporated (flowers, main wedding table, bride, headpieces, dress, dessert table). The chimney area; one of my favorite spots at the house, brings you to those French Villas located close to Paris, full of elegant, charm and classy details.

Close to the Chimney area, a curious and unique ceremony aisle full of natural light awaited for the wonderful bride, where she confessed her vows. The team added a unique touch with the Provence Chairs, some votive candles to lighten her way and delicate floral arrangements.

The pretty blooms, by Simple Florals were a great fit for the beautiful setting. Monica’s floral selection was based on a very soft and delicate color palette. From peonies to garden and mini roses, ranunculus, eucalyptus, etc.

The beautiful calligraphy brought by Papel N Co, gave a nice touch to the styled shoot too. A mix between a Parisian and Tropical touch was designed by Natalia. We fell in love with her design and the antique floral illustration.

The Creative’s Loft with Lia Terni pieced together this delicate and Parisian bridal look with a very very pale rose bridal gown by Anne Barge (provided by a very unique Bridal Boutique located in Merrick Way, Opera D’Arte), stunning handmade headpieces and a gorgeous natural make up and different hair styles by Carolyn Jones Make Up Artist.

The black futon area became a point of attraction to Esteban from Blue Spark Wedding…have a look to the intimate moments with the bride. As well as the gorgeous diamond ring from Diamonds on the Key together with some French relic books and dictionaries.

The team designed to different table design set ups; a more classic Parisian version with a gold touch added by a wonderful dinnerware and original “seating initials” as a seating card. A curious element that give a unique touch to the table.

How cute is the Dessert Table? The whole team inspired this little corner adding some French Delicatessen like Croissants, Macarons, Tartines de Fruits, Panacota Shots, Fresh Fruit, Pain au chocolat, palmiers and a delicious Tarte Tatin (Apple Pie). All the sweet bites combine with a gorgeous floral centerpiece in the middle of the table as well as some unique decor elements, made this dessert table something unique!

Stated by the whole team…we traveled to Paris while we where shooting in the middle of the Tropics, in a breathtaking venue; Miami Beach Woman’s Club. Magic happened, our talents matched together in order to bring our brides this unique Chic Parisian Bridal Styled Shoot. Isn’t it gorgeous? Oh la la…we would have been shooting for hours!!

This is Why At Home Weddings are the Absolute Best

Anyone who has seen Father of the Bride knows one thing: weddings at home are awesome. And this beautiful affair captured by the always amazing Kate Preftakes?  Everything you’ve ever dreamed. From the stunning florals from Posies by Trim to the breathtaking setting to the gorgeous bride + groom who just exude happy.  Get your Annie Banks on in THE VAULT.

From Kate Preftakes… Annie and Ben were married on a glorious August afternoon in a field behind Annie’s childhood New England home. Annie and Ben are world travelers but their theme of coming home was touching. There was so much love and friendship surrounding this wedding. It felt as though the field itself embraced its guests as wildflower seeds were thrown into the grass to remember the day.

So many personal touches made the day unique and special. The beautiful sun print place cards were made with wildflowers from the field by Annie’s sister and her two sisters made a flower crown for Ben to welcome him to the family. Personal stories were shared by friends and laughter filled the tent. The rejoicing lasted well into the night and I was so honored to be there on this very special occasion.

Saturday Morning Movie: A Love Story 20 Years In the Making

Who would have thought, back in the second grade, when these two met, that they were meeting their soul mate right then and there. But that’s exactly what happened and the journey they started on is nothing short of amazing. Some things just make sense, and these two and their friendship which grew to be so much more, is just that, as we learn in this film by Bear Hands Media. They made it official with a celebration planned by Keely Thorne Events and we’re left in awe, with no doubts in the power of fate.

Sail Off Into the Sunset with This Nautical Inspiration Session

Inspired by the picturesque sailboats at Dallas’ White Rock Lake, this incredible team of creatives (including Anna Smith PhotographyJenny McCannCallie ManionChelsea Q. White PhotographyKate Pease, Ben Q. Photography and Allen Tsai Photography) created a nautical dream with ethereal touches throughout. From the two-piece blue wedding dress to the delicious cakes from Sugar Bee Sweets, this inspiration session is almost too good to be true. See it all in The Vault!

From Anna Smith PhotographyOur Haystack Film Gathering community in Dallas is thriving. We have such a great and talented group of photographers that love to get together and collaborate on shoots, sharing ideas, talent and camaraderie unparalleled with other cities. Currently there are about 20 of us and we are growing! For the summer gathering, Anna Smith Photography and Silver Lining Events put on an amazingly gorgeous sunset nautical inspiration shoot at the Dallas White Rock Lake. The inspiration came from the idea to use one of the sailboats at the lake and combine that with a neutral palette of elegant, light and classy hues of blues and greens. The florals used were: cream vendela roses, cream football mums, cream privett flowering, cream peonies, spray roses cream majolica, Nigella blue, Millet green, salad leaf and silver dollar eucalyptus.

The color palette Silver Lining Events used was white, cream, shades of blue and natural greens. We chose an ethereal bridal gown from A and Be Bridal that was a two-piece corset and skirt. The corset had a light blue underlining and accented our style oh-so-well. The groom’s style was impeccable in a white tuxedo from Culwell & Son in Dallas. Vella Nest Floral designed bouquets and centerpieces with bright shades of green and white.

The table designed by Silver Lining Events was decorated with help of ChrysQ Handcrafted hand-dyed linens for a natural seaside look. We scattered sand and seashells throughout. Sugar Bee Sweets provided the two delicious-looking watercolor cakes. Bunny and Bear is my absolute go-to stationery and calligraphy company. She is so talented and created stationery and all the calligraphy with blue, green and white hues to match our floral design. We hope you enjoy this gorgeous collaboration!

From Mariel HannahI had the pleasure of photographing Daane and Marisa’s wedding in Tulum this past February. For die hard Twilight Fans, some may be familiar with Marisa Quinn as she is an actress and played a vampire role in the blockbuster films. They dreamt of a wedding celebration full of meaning with their closest family & friends, so they got just that.

From the Bride…MAGIC.

Pure. Absolute. Otherworldly…MAGIC.

Nothing else can describe the beauty of that day. Without a doubt, it was the most extraordinary day of our lives.

After having experienced the mystical power of the Mayan Riviera before, we knew we wanted to be married in a sacred space, and make it an all day affair. For the Mayans, cenotes were revered as one of the three entryways to the land of the Gods. For centuries, sacred rituals have taken place at the mouth of these waters – and on February 26th, 2016 – our very own sacred ritual was performed…and the magic alive the air was palpable.

A traditional Mayan musician graced us with ancient sounds played on hand-carved instruments…the mystical sound of the flute floated through the air as I walked down the aisle. A rehearsal had not been possible due to the sacredness of the site, so as I began to walk down the “aisle” – I realized for the first time that my 3 inch wedges weren’t gonna allow me to make it down in one piece. So after a few steps down the path, I stopped my dad, kicked of my shoes with a laugh, and proceeded down toward my groom with bare feet and my dress gently draping along the earth.

Time stood still, and I didn’t care about anything that wasn’t truly real. About two minutes into the ceremony, I tossed off my veil as well because I didn’t want anything obstructing my view of some of the most precious moments of my life. And the best part? It wasn’t even weird that I did that! It all just felt like it was exactly what was supposed to happen.

As the Shaman continued the ceremony, even the fish and the birds felt compelled to join in the moment. The fish gathered near his feet, the birds flew in resting on nearby branches… even a kitten found his way into the ceremony circle! As soon as I saw him approach and take a seat at the top of the cave, I whispered to Daane “mira! el gatito!!” (“look! a little cat!). I’m a total cat lady, so of course I was over the moon to have this particular unexpected guest join us!

Overall – it was simply magical. As our contribution to the otherwise traditional Mayan ceremony, Daane and I exchanged our own vows, pouring our hearts out to one another and promising to give the best of ourselves from that moment on.

Of course…in the real world, fairytale moments don’t come without their fair share of real-world hiccups. We had PLENTY go wrong that picture-perfect day. From the bride & groom being forgotten and left at the house while the entire wedding party was being shuttled to the ceremony, to being stranded AGAIN at the close of the ceremony when the keys to our car were accidentally taken and our wedding party was already 45 min away…to an unexpected rope swing obstructing our ceremony space and the Zika virus threatening to keep all our guests at home…we had MANY hurdles to overcome to get to our happily ever after. But when you’re riding high on love and the mystical powers of Tulum – ain’t nothin’ gonna ruin your day! With the help of our family and friends we sailed through every unexpected twist and turn with a laugh and a smile, and fell asleep that night to the sound of the waves crashing, asking ourselves how we ever got so lucky to live such a perfectly imperfect truly magical day.
