Alluring + Romantic Shoot at the Home of a Beethoven Masterpiece

Set at Dolna Krupa, the gorgeous site where Beethoven wrote his piano masterpiece Moonlight Sonata for the love of his life, this shoot encompasses that magical romance and more. Captured by Peter and Veronika at their first workshop, we’re transfixed with detail after detail; from the dress to the florals to the look of love between these two, it doesn’t get any better than this. Patricia & Oliver filmed the experience live – see the clip below and even more beauty in our Vault this way!

From Peter and Veronika… While planning our very first Workshop this past spring we found the inspiration for the editorial theme in the venue place itself. With its long and interesting history, the manor house of Brunswick family in Dolna Krupa is forever bound with the name of the greatest composer of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven. He visited the manor and composed his beautiful piano masterpiece Moonlight Sonata here. Ludwig dedicated this song to his secret love of his life, Josephine von Brunswick, to whom he sent several love letters and called her his ‘only beloved’ and ‘my angel, my all, my very self’. It was a truly beautiful story of an unfulfilled love.

The Sonata itself also inspired the color scheme of our editorial. Moonlight tones of serenity, grey, royal blue, black, silver and gold were used with the decorations, flower arrangements, calligraphy and also with the dress. It made everything look magical, just like the moonlight sky!

From Ponk Rentals… When Veronika mentioned that the manor house where the workshop was going to take place is reportedly the place where Beethoven composed his moonlight sonata we immediately started to think silver, silver grey and shades of blue and completely reworked the mood board. Our aim was to create a rich decor that would complement the strict forms of the building, which is a rather fine example of classicist architecture, but would yet be delicate and fragile to convey the eerie atmosphere of a moonlight reflecting on the water surface. We used Victoria Ghost chairs because they perfectly unite these two aspects and did not take away focus from the manor and the decor, vintage silver charger plates and flatware, very exquisite platinum rim champagne glasses and silk runners from Orchidee de Soie in different shades of blue and grey. Napkins were made from a very fine batiste to add more lightness to the whole scheme. From the beginning we wanted to create very rich florals to acknowledge the manor’s rose garden reputation. One of the countesses was known as “Rose Countess” and had a rosarium with more than 6,000 roses and a complete collection of north countries roses. Flowers were in different shades of white only and it work well with shades of grey, silver and blue accent of the decor and a beautifully faded nude paint on the manor house. The bright green leaves of a fig and kiwi trees we used in the flower arrangements were the only vibrant aspect of the whole concept to bring it alive.

From Martina Lyons… My inspiration was the Chateau love story and “serenity” itself. It is just a beautiful word. It is exactly the color that I imagined. With a drop of beautiful moon gold dust on handmade serenity blue paper it is a perfect amount of romanticism. And all the love coming from Ludwig van Beethoven´s love letter to his Josephine, his Immortal Beloved…

You Would Never Guess that 3 Kids Live in this Home!

With twin toddlers, the sea of brightly colored toys is a real struggle. I’m constantly looking for inspiration on how to hide the fact that we are single handedly keeping Fisher-Price in business. This home definitely gives me hope. Designed for a father of three, it’s cozy and welcoming but with a seriously stylish edge. See how Lexi Westergard Design made this design savvy house a home with even more in the VAULT.

This is a home that I designed for a single dad and his 3 kids. He wanted a home that was very kid friendly and a place he could hang out with his kids. They are a very active family that loves to be outdoors. The dad use to race cars for a living.

He literally had about 7 pieces of furniture that was coming from his previous home. So we wanted to make sure it feel like he collected pieces over time and didn’t look like a stale model home. My client had a front room that he wanted to make into a hang out for his kids and their friends. It is a long and narrow space so we broke it up into two sections.

A place for them to play video games and watch movies, then a place for them to play board games or do home work.

Because it is the first room you see when you walk into the house we wanted to be kid friendly while still looking good.

The breakfast nook already had a built-in banquette, we painted it white to lighten up the space. We also added trim and custom roman shades.

The family room is off of the kitchen and the only requirement was to have a leather sectional. We painted the fireplace to lighten up and added trim around the windows.

We wanted the master bedroom to be a place for relaxing. We achieved that by having a neutral palette with some blue(which if you ask me blue is a neutral)

We also painted all the trim white to brighten up the room. The master has french doors that go out to the backyard and there is gorgeous preserve behind their house, so we added a chair for reading and relaxing.

The boys share a room, they love the beach and spend the summers in California. So we wanted a room that had a beach vibe without being too theme-y.

The wallpaper is a very cool abstract wave pattern and was the jumping off point for the design. We adding some coastal accessories and some baskets for storage.

For the little girls room we wanted it to be fun and whimsical. The Caitlin Wilson wallpaper was the perfect starting point. With touches of purple(her favorite color) and gold to pull it all together.

The Coziest Fall Engagement in New York City

You’ve seen the interior design work of Veronica Valencia over on SMP Living, but today she’s stepping in front of the camera as a New York bride-to-be. Love Ala captured Veronica and Kris’ adventures through the city, and if you ask me this gallery is all the cozy, autumn inspiration you’ll ever need.

From the bride, Veronica Valencia… I think about my life before Kris and then I think about my life after Kris and the only way to accurately equate that transition is to night and day. When we met, that is truly when my life started. A workaholic interior designer, working in the television industry was what I lived for. So when I was offered the opportunity of taking a job on a four month design show in New York, I went. I remember it clear as day. Landing on a red eye at JFK I drove into Jersey where our production offices were. Kris immediately ran out and introduced himself to me. (Apparently he fell out of his chair when I walked by his office, but you didn’t hear that from me ;) He was kind, with a huge smile and a NY cap on. He listened to Frank Sinatra when he drove our crew to the subway. He was patient and had this excitement in his step…. An energy that I unknowingly, completely gravitated towards more and more every day. He was special.

32 days after meeting, we fell in love. It only took 32 days. Kris born and raised in the Bronx is the epitome of a New Yorker. He had recently purchased an apartment in Manhattan, his whole life in the city… And then I happened. He leaped. We both leaped. With both feet in the air, we took a chance on each other.

Cut to 4 years later, Kris and I have created a life on both the East and West Coast that I do not take for granted. When we met, the crazy creative in me had all of these ideas and dreams, and the business savvy, practical Kristopher and I merged forces. We started our version of a modern day design company. We honestly just wanted to do life together. I don’t think it mattered what career path it was. Working towards our future was the main priority, whatever that was destined to be… And we haven’t stopped. We live together. We work together. We problem solve together. We celebrate and dream together. We evolve together. More importantly we love together.

PROPOSAL STORY

After Kris and I worked on a TV show in Atlanta last summer, my family had decided on taking a long over due family trip to New York. We were so excited to introduce our families and show my parents around our neighborhood.

I’m not going to lie, him proposing during this trip definitely crossed my mind. When my family arrived, I obsessively thought about it, however a day in Central Park and 3 days into the trip nothing happened. So, I stopped thinking and started to enjoy all of the moments we were creating….. Then BAM! In the middle of Manhattan, in his high school church, with only my family, he walked me up to the alter and popped the question. The church is SO beautiful. It honestly felt as if we were in a different country! With incredible Neo-Baroque architectural details, St. Francis Xavier Church was founded in the 1800’s and designed by an incredible Brooklyn based architect. The designer in me was even more overwhelmed! You felt the history. You felt the love. You felt it all! I cried and was so overwhelmed with emotions.

Every thing was kind of in slow motion from there. My siblings were in on it, my mom wasn’t so she fell to her knees crying, we all died of laughter and then my dad took us all to a Mets/Dodgers game. We ended the night with a private party at the Frying Pan, a 1920’s, previously abandoned 133 foot boat overlooking the Hudson River. We celebrated till the sun came up with our New York family! Magical is an understatement.

ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

Kris and I are around cameras and photographers a majority of the year and we know the importance of documenting moments. Having someone special capture us in our element was #1. Ala Cortez of Love Ala has been a long time, dear friend of mine. The goal for our engagement shoot was simple. We wanted to spend it like any other weekend. Wake up at the crack of dawn (who am I kidding! I like my sleep)… Well for this special day we woke up before the sun came up, got ready and went about our typical Sunday. We wanted to spend this special day, doing exactly what we do every Sunday. Only this time we have our talented friend capturing every moment.

Our NY home is one block from the High Line and whenever we are in town, we spend every weekend walking this elevated garden path from Chelsea to the Meat Packing District. We love to stop at The Standard Grill and have a cup of coffee to start the day. Next we walk through the cobble stone streets of the West Village where Kris worked in his early 20’s. He has the most memorable night life stories….. I swear he is the best tour guide, but then again I’m bias.. The quaint downtown streets are beautiful and have so much character! Lastly, we always 100% end our mornings and start our afternoon at easily the #1 brunch spot in Manhattan…. COOKSHOP! We are so obsessed, it’s a problem. It’s always our first and last meal when we come in and out of New York. Capturing moments here were important to us because they embody the essence of Kris and I.

We love traveling, we love road trips, we love brunching and cocktails and we love being around a bustling community. I am certain there is nothing better than enjoying conversations with loved ones, over a sizzling plate of huevo rancheros, accompanied by spicy margaritas and bloody marys that remind you of how amazing life can be.

One may think the shoot seems staged, but it truly was us in our element. I look at them every day and it tickles me with excitement in anticipation of our future. I can’t wait to be that old couple showing our grandchildren all of the fun we had as young adults. Maybe it will inspire them to go and embrace each day like their grandparents did in “the good ol’ days”. Maybe it will show them that true love does and always will exist.

A Truly French Celebration That’ll Have You Saying Oui Oui

An intimate church wedding is basically music to our wedding loving ears, and Sara and Josh’s romantic little ceremony? It’s basically the sweetest sounding symphony. Add in the beautiful countryside of Burgundy and their closest family and friends and you’ve got a celebration that you won’t want to miss. See it all captured by Marie FilmPhotographer in The Vault!

From Marie FilmPhotographerSara and Josh are from Ohio and their dream wedding was in France. But not in Paris as you could think of, but in the beautiful countryside of Burgundy.

The Chateau de Varennes was named by CNN among the top ten best wedding venues worldwide.
Their closest family member and friends came from the US to attend their union.

The ceremony in the intimate little church was so emotional, the french champagne to get ready helped the bridesmaids to survive the day, the weather was beyond perfect, the outdoor diner was so romantic. This is a perfect wedding with a perfect couple.

An At Home Poolside Ceremony That’s Crazy Chic

If there was ever a wedding we’d vie to attend, it would easily be Meg and Franc’s. Because the celebration? Crazy chic. The setting? Undeniably beautiful. And the love? Well, you get the picture. Captured by Feather and Stone Photography and orchestrated by Cathrin D’Entremont Weddings, we’ve got every bit of the beauty waiting for you to fall in love with via The Vault

From Cathrin D’Entremont WeddingsThese two meant to be together forever! A fairy tale in the making with both parents houses only steps away from each other. Their career path crossed for the first time in an operating theatre and that’s where their story began…Both had very similar upbringings. Meg’s father being a Cray fisherman, a lot of her youth revolved around the ocean and Franc grew up on an island in the Caribbean Sea.

Their work leaves very little time for anything else, never mind organizing a wedding, so I was delighted to be asked to design and plan their wedding. They both wanted to hold the ceremony at his parents’ home and then have the guests just walk a few houses down to hold the reception at her parents’ home.

Meg and Franc love soft pink colours and with Franc’s Mum being a watercolour artist she started immediately on the invitation design. They turned out to be amazing! The ceremony was set-up by the pool in the backyard immediately to be followed by champagne toasts. The guests made their way to the reception following a bag pipers music, who is a family friend.

Meg and Franc wanted a family feast style dinner with one plate being crayfish supplied by Meg’s Dad. Signature cocktails throughout the night and a caricaturist entertaining the guests. Jess, Meg’s long time friend and bridesmaid made the 3 tier naked cake. I can personally vouch that it tasted amazing.

Kim Kardashian Got a New Engagement Ring — And It’s Even Bigger Than the First

In case there were any doubts that Kim Kardashian was living her best life, one look at the new rock on her finger will settle that. You may remember the original 15-carat Lorraine Schwartz cushion-cut stunner from Kanye’s October 2013 proposal at San Francisco’s AT&T Stadium, but this new rock is even bigger (if that’s even possible).

“Kanye surprised her with a new ring,” a source told People magazine. “Kim couldn’t believe it. It’s even more stunning than her engagement ring if that’s possible.” Because 15 carats just wasn’t big enough, Kim’s new ring features a 20-carat emerald-cut center stone, according to jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz.

Whether you’re a Kimye fan or not, you have to admit you’re a little teeny bit jealous. But just a smidge.

How One Bride Styled Her 12 Bridesmaids to Perfecton

When it came time for this Southern bride to style her 12 bridesmaids, she turned to Joanna August for a mix-and-match look that’s completely on point. A dusty pink and mauve combo made for a unique yet cohesive palette and there’s so much more to see in The Vault from Jessica Gold Photography.

From Jessica Gold PhotographyDiane and Chris had a beautiful wedding filled with southern details. Their wedding took place at Odle Dobbin Station, a venue filled with greenery and rustic vibes. They incorporated this theme of greenery into their floral arrangements and reception decor. To continue with their southern vibe, they used antlers on their reception tables intertwined in their flowers.

Diane wore a Maggie Sottero gown with classic lace and glamorous accessories. (Who can go wrong with Kate Spade earrings?) Her gold bracelet had the date of her wedding date engraved in Roman numerals, and is now a piece she wears daily.

Most importantly, they wanted their day to be surrounded by the love of their family and friends, and this is seen prominently in their bridal party. They had an enormous bridal party of 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen styled to perfection. The ladies wore different styles and colors of Joanna August’s dresses, and the gentlemen wore patterned bowties and suspenders. Apart from their aesthetic style, the love from their family and friends was evident in every portion of the day. One of the sweetest moments was during the ceremony when both families joined Diane and Chris at the alter for a prayer, and there wasn’t a dry eye among them.

Learn How to Throw the Ultimate (+ Gorgeous) Kids’ Party

We first fell in love with Sweet Vivian’s nursery. It’s one of our favorites to date and now her 1st birthday, planned by mama bear and Lulu & Georgia founder, Sara Sugarman, along with the ladies of Beijos Events is swooping in as favorite 1st birthday of all time. But it gets better, they’re dishing up 10 tips for crafting the most gorgeous kids’ party. See even more captured by Lova Ala in the VAULT.

Rugs. Kids like to play on the floor. Rugs add softness and keep an outdoor floor cool but they also add pattern and color to a space. For our party, having them really helped bring the Italian Riviera theme to The Fig House. We incorporated plenty of blue and white rugs featuring Italian motifs. It made the event space look cohesive and was the perfect play area for the babies.

Fun party favors. We gifted the kids one of our favorite books, Mangia Mangia. It teaches kids all about Italian food, so it was perfect for our party theme. We gave each of the adults olive oil with rosemary and a sweet note from Vivi. I think the best party favors are simple, yet special mementos reminiscent of that day.

Paperie. Beautiful paper products can help tie the theme of an event together. We designed a gorgeous blue floral pattern for the invitation, paper placemats, cocktail napkins, ice cream cups, party favor notes and thank you cards. It made different components of the party feel connected and cohesive.

Lounge area. I love having a separate area where the adults can sit, relax and enjoy a drink. We used our Phinny Daybed as the main piece and paired it with some other summery, wooden elements. We scattered a lot of poufs, floor cushions, and pillows to make it feel cozy and inviting.

Beautiful desserts. No kids party is complete without a cake, and the dessert table was the highlight of the event. We bought a simple white cake from Susie Cakes and decorated it with tons flowers, and topped it off with a sweet Viva La Vivi cake topper from The Roc Shop. We also included a selection of Italian desserts (cannolis being one of my favorite treats). Finally, no Italian party is complete without a scoop of gelato. Carmela served up a variety of flavors from her charming Ice Cream cart, which was much appreciated in the August heat!

Find a fun theme or at least a strong color scheme! There are so many different directions to go, but if you have a good solid theme that you are set on and can build from it will all come together. On that note, you never want to get too “themed”, mix what your theme is with things that you would have for an adult party or event, that way it’s not too much because too much of something can be a bad thing and lead to some cheesiness… For example, with this party we incorporated pretty greenery and wooden signage so it was a bit more classic, almost like something you would see at a wedding!

Personalize it! We love adding little details with all of our events, but when it comes to a kid’s birthday party you want to have things personalized for your little one! Having things like cocktail stirrers with the age your child is turning, a cake topper with their name on it, and especially signage! Custom signs with details about what your child is up to at this age or with photos of them throughout their last year are always a fun touch and interesting for your guests to look at. Personalized details are always a special addition to any event.

Florals make it all better! Although it can be a pricey addition, florals are a real wow factor! And if you want to make a party beautiful, well, we can’t really think of a better way! If you are on a budget and can’t hire a florist, you can definitely still make it happen! Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s has a great selection of florals to choose from, and adding in succulents from Home Depot is always a somewhat easy and economical addition as well. However if you can, hiring a florist saves a lot of time for you to enjoy your event, you can always work with your florist to choose flowers that are more in budget and add lots of greenery to keep costs low!

Atmosphere is everything! When choosing where to have your party really think about your guests, for a kids birthday party especially. Fun is the main factor here and outdoors is usually best. If you have a backyard, that’s great! If not you may want to consider hosting at a park or at a venue that has space for the kids to play and interact. There are lots of options to making your event pretty outside and it allows for a beautiful backdrop with lots of pretty greenery and sunlight. You also want to have fun activities and things for your guests to do, whether it’s a ball pit or jump house, you definitely want something to keep those kids entertained. Let’s be honest, jump houses are not the prettiest addition to a party but they are a whole lot of fun for the guests and in the end you want your party to also be memorable, and having a good time will guarantee that.

Hire a photographer! Trust us, we know, it’s definitely a luxury, but it’s worth it… Especially if it’s a memorable birthday like a first birthday, you don’t want to add more stress to your plate by trying to capture all the amazing details and moments. This is your party too, so enjoy yourself and let a professional take care of the rest. This way you will have all of your hard work and memories saved to enjoy for years to come, and with a professional behind the lens it will look that much prettier!

Colorful Surprise Beach Proposal Caught on Camera!

A simple beach photo shoot turned into so much more for these cuties when her handsome man dropped to one knee and said words that made my heart skip a beat: “Love is like life. Every corner is not easy, every corner doesn’t bring happiness but when we don’t leave life alone then why should we leave love alone. Will you marry me?” Jessica of Anna Kim Photography was ready and waiting and captured it all right in the moment – see the surprise and sweet kisses in our Vault right this way!

From the Bride-to-be… Anket and I met at a party for our mutual friend. We started talking and he asked me out the next day for a date. I felt connected with him on that date. He lived in Chicago when we met and I was in San Francisco. We were long distance so we thought we’d start getting to know each other by having conversations over the phone and Facetime. We really liked each other so planned to see each other again. I visited Chicago for the weekend and we had wonderful moments. We were in love. Our visits to each other became more frequent and eventually he moved to San Francisco to be with me.

We always try to do one trip together every three months, so that’s how we visited Maui. I threw the idea of having a couple photo shoot. We were having fun during the photo shoot – funny jokes, giggles, kisses and then what do I see, he is on his knees and asking me “Love is like life. Every corner is not easy, every corner doesn’t bring happiness but when we don’t leave life alone then why should we leave love alone. Will you marry me?” I was surprised, it felt so special and right at the moment and we had it captured.

We are planning to get married early next year! We both were born in India and have all our family living back home so the wedding will take place there!

They Met at Work and the Rest is Seriously Stunning History

Meeting the love of your life at work? SUCH a fairytale beginning. And when the stars align in that Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan sort of fashion, it’s a story that deserves a jaw-droppingly beautiful wedding. And these two? They delivered.  Think classic meets romantic with sweet cultural details woven into every moment. See it all captured by the insanely talented Lauren Gabrielle in THE VAULT, then hit play on the awesome film from The Image in Motion below.

MustWatch_swash-01

From the Bride… Petar and I met at work — I was a medical student in my last year of school, and he was a surgical intern. Through a mutual friend, he heard there was a Serbian (like himself) medical student at the same hospital, so he tracked me down and crushed from afar until he got his chance to introduce himself. One thing led to another, and not long after he popped the question!

When it came time to plan the wedding, I envisioned a glam spin on a vintage romantic wedding. But because we are both Serbian, it was really important to both us and the family to incorporate cultural traditions into our day. Our wedding parties tend to be much larger– in addition to a typical bridal party, we have additional roles such as first witnesses and formal hosts of the wedding who wear sashes that display their role in the wedding. Incorporating traditions also made choosing the reception venue tricky. I wanted the wedding style I envisioned while still paying homage to our Eastern European roots — hence, the Slavic chic motif. The Old Courthouse in Cleveland served as the perfect venue to balance other bold cultural elements, with gorgeous golden light fixtures and marbled pillars lending a glam and almost regal feel to the event. One of the other important aspects to the planning process was choosing the right photographer.

Because Orthodox Christian churches and other cultural items are often adorned with gold and red accents, we wanted a photographer whose work had pretty, ethereal overtones so the cultural aspects of our day didn’t come across as kitschy. Our photographer Lauren Gabrielle was a perfect fit and such a dream to work with, and her photographs speak for themselves. And funny enough after deciding to go with her, we found out she ended up having some Serbian roots herself! We were lucky enough to also find a videographer who fit our aesthetic as well with The Image in Motion and are thrilled with the highlight video we just got back. There was so much love and energy around us that day; we are really lucky to have found such great vendors to put everything together and document it all.

To keep within our budget, we did as much DIY as we could. We scoured thrift stores and auction sites and took advantage of Black Friday sales to scoop up all the vintage vases, mercury glass compotes and votives we could find. I also recommend exercising patience when stalking online sales — it’s how I found my Jimmy Choos for half off retail! I also wanted personalized cake toppers, so I made ours out of baking clay. The signs and paper goods I made a little at a time in the months leading up to the big day. Petar made the photo wall from artificial boxwood panels and a frame out of white PVC piping from Home Depot. Just a heads up — make sure to give yourself plenty of time in advance for these bigger projects so you can work on it a bit at a time so you don’t go into panic mode when things get down to the wire.

My wedding gown was a Carolina Herrera sample that I picked up at the Glamour Closet in Chicago — a gem in the city with a ton of designer sample gowns. If you end up going the sample dress route, I cannot stress enough how important it is to find a skilled alterations shop. I went to Davis Imperials and they were beyond amazing– shoutout to my seamstress Yana who saved the day when I somehow shrunk a few inches just days after the final fitting! Also, don’t be afraid to take on bigger DIY projects that you can do in advance (so you have time to make other plans if it doesn’t work out.) I fell in love with a sash, but couldn’t stomach the $1200 price tag. So, I made an inspired version with some grosgrain ribbon, Swarovski rhinestones, other various beads and more patience than I thought I was capable of.

While florals was not an area where we splurged, our florist was a magician and made some seriously stunning centerpieces. Erin with The Budding Tree totally nailed the whimsical, loose romantic arrangements I had wanted! Also, we had initially decided against getting a planner, along the way we ran into a Serbian events planner, Maria, who already understood our traditions and how the verrry long Orthodox wedding day plays out. With her on board, it allowed my husband and I to feel like guests at our own wedding instead of having to stress about fixing last minute glitches. We were able to spend more time with our loved ones, which made it all so worth it!!!

The one thing I always hear other brides say is that “the day goes by so fast!” And it is sooo true. At some point during the reception, Petar grabbed two coffees and we snuck away together for 15 minutes to just sit and talk. This was one of the best pieces of advice we got, and really did help us stay in the moment — so try and sneak away for a few minutes to yourselves! And don’t sweat the little things — it is such an honor to have so many loved ones come together to celebrate your wedding that it’s not worth it to stress about things out of your control. The day flies by, so spend that time and energy with your guests instead!

Italian Proposal, Miami Engagement Shoot; These Two Know How to Pick Pretty Places

These two have a lot of pressure for their nuptials come February. After saying “YES” in Venice and having their engagement pics captured by The Ganeys at the visually stunning Villa Vizcaya in Miami, the level of beauty just continues to rise. But if all these pics are any indication, the romance will be on thing we don’t have to worry about – see all their love in our Vault right this way!

From The Ganeys… Josh and Patricia are such a sweet couple! They met while Patricia was interning in Charlotte. After a few dates, they realized how much they had in common – from their values and life goals to their faith. These two keep each other laughing! They love spending time together – whether it is celebrating the simple moments while cooking dinner or globe trotting to a new country across the globe.

I had always dreamed of photographing at the Villa Vizcaya in Miami. When I heard that Josh had proposed to Patricia while on a gondola in Venice, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to continue their Italian-inspired love story! There is nothing else like the intricate details and stunning architecture at this gorgeous villa. Patricia carried a lush bouquet filled with roses, ranunculus, and hydrangeas.

Thomas and I were thrilled to document this piece of their love story and we can’t wait to celebrate their marriage with them in February!

How to Translate Your Personal Style Into Your Maternity Style

When it comes to bump style, Mara of M Loves M absolutely nailed it—did you see some of her pregnancy looks we featured? She’s got mad mama-to-be style, there’s no doubt about that. So today, we couldn’t be more thrilled to share these gorrrgeous photos from her sunlit maternity session with Jordan Zobrist, along with Mara’s tips on translating your personal style into your maternity style. And what’s more? Her sweet, sweet boy made his arrival last week! Congrats Mara & Matthew!!!

1. Find pieces that are flattering

Dressing a pregnant you is a lot different than dressing a regular you. Those high-waisted jeans and crop tops just don’t have the same appeal with a baby bump. Not to mention it might be impossible depending on how far along you are. Choose items that flatter your bump, whether it’s a peplum top or a more fitted silhouette. You can definitely go with roomier dresses but you might want to add a belt to accentuate your bump. You don’t want people to question whether or not you’re pregnant or just had a few too many burritos.

2. Go for Comfort

Now is not your time to suck it up in heels and uncomfortable outfits. Choose shoes with a manageable heel, or just reach for those flats! As your body is changing so does the fit of your clothes. While you might be able to find some non-maternity outfits that work, chances are you’ll need to invest in some good maternity basics, like tees and jeans.

3. Invest in Accessories

While you might not want to invest in those expensive maternity jeans, that designer handbag will work during and after your pregnancy. Take pregnancy as an opportunity to play up the accessories and add unique touches to your outfits. Even if you’re just in a tee and jeans, you can add a flowy kimono cardigan, cute sandals, and a wide brim hat.

Wedding Trends We Love: Circular Ceremony Seating

When A Day Like No Other is planning your wedding, you better believe there will be some special touches. One of our favorites? The circular ceremony seating that set the tone for an intimate, completely personal celebration. Gary Sexton photographed every moment waiting in The Vault.

From A Day Like No OtherThe couple Haneen and Anthony met during their Junior year at UC Davis (2008/2009). They both had transferred to the school that year. The bride’s roommate introduced the two; she had attended a Greek camp with the groom (who is of Greek heritage) when they were 10 or 12 yrs old. She ended up inviting him to the bride’s birthday celebration. A good half year after that first encounter, the two began dating.

They got engaged in December of 2014 and, after an 18-month courtship, got married in May 2016. A few things they absolutely wanted for their wedding: lots of good music, all of their friends, and LOTS AND LOTS of dancing!

The theme was “1920s light:” a mixture of the bride’s and the groom’s ideas. They were looking to mix it up in a world filled with mason jar weddings. So they decided to take a “light approach to Great Gatsby”. And the beautiful antique race car – actually, a treasured family heirloom – did come in handy to set the tone for this elegant celebration right at the venue entrance.

From the Bride…How do you capture pure magic? Is it even possible? Are there words in the English language with the ability to tell of something so majestic and purely lovely as May 15th, 2016? Alas, I am unsure… but between my words and our talented photographer’s skillful eye, I hope the magic of that day is brought to life in your heart.

The beauty of May 15th, 2016 will never fail to take my breath away. There was a moment, as I could feel the crochet hook buttoning up my dress and the sound of film clicking when all a sudden the to-do lists filled with seating arrangements, playlists, work projects put on hold…you know…the details… simply faded. I let go of the months of preparation and joyfully slipped into the bliss of wedding day.

The forecast had been for a classic Texas thunderstorm and yet, the overcast sky held the promise of lovely May sunshine. I emerged from the little room on the side of the stately DeGolyer home to be greeted by squeals and giggles of the dearest friends in the world. Standing there in my favorite dress, everything was green and real and bright. There were my nine rocks, my best girls… who have held me, prayed with me, and shaped me into the woman I am today. They were an enchanting sight, all dressed beautifully in blush looking like they could easily slip into an Anthropologie themed Waltz of the Flowers dance. Although I love my girls, I was ready to see Christopher. You see… I can get quite nervous being the center of attention, but when he’s there… I’m ok, I’m secure, I feel safe. He helps me be brave and strong amongst a million other things… I now know the meaning of “my better half” because he is my better half. As I read his note to me, it was a mixture of depth, heart, soul, and jokes… you see, Christopher has this way of making me laugh… he always keeps me laughing.

Turning the corner and seeing him there in his uniform… oh my soul… my heart still skips a beat merely thinking about it. Our first look was one of those moments, the kind that’ll be iconic in our memories forever, that at any point in our lives, we could close our eyes and relive it because it’s that vivid and strong. I’ll never forget walking towards him, ever so delicately calling his name and nervously wondering what he’d think when he turns around. We had been anticipating this moment for months because you see… Christopher and I had been long distance for over two years, joyfully walking through seasons apart including a deployment and Ranger school. This moment was not only the first time we saw each other on our wedding day, but it was also the beginning of our lives together! No more goodbyes or goodnights… we had made it. Two years of distance done, let’s begin our lives together!

As the last guest was seated and the music began to play, my dad and I were escorted through the DeGolyer mansion and out the majestic front door to ensure no one saw me. It was the most elegant and calming walk before the whirlwind and magical night began. As two of our dear friends began to sing an acoustic version of “Multiplied” by Needtobreathe, my dad and I walked down the aisle towards my best friend, and as we were about halfway there, the clouds parted and a beautiful Texas sunshine shown down on all of our best friends and family… it was as if our best guest had just taken His seat. The beautifully crafted garlands brought a royal yet organic realness to where we stood. As we were led through our vows, all I can remember is joy, the purest form of it. Proclaiming in front of all that I will be his and he will be mine. We laughed and had mist in our eyes, but everything from the music, to the sunshine, to the tiniest detail on our communion table reflected the beauty of our marriage beginning. I remember feeling the wind blow my veil as it elegantly draped down the steps and seeing the sun hit flecks of blue and gold in his eyes. Dreamiest moment of my life.

As we turned around, I was ready to have some fun! Before the social butterfly part of the night began, Christopher and I were ushered to a private dinner in the rose garden to collect our thoughts and exclaim things to each other like “we’re married!!!” acting like two kids as we sampled the incredible food we had meticulously chosen for our beloved guests.

Looking around at the enchanting place where we were going to have the greatest party of our lives was surreal. Everything from the blush and gold accents to the romantic bistro lights made us feel like we were at a European midsummer’s medieval feast in the middle of a mystical forest – which is exactly what we had envisioned. We wanted to get married surrounded by life. What a more perfect place than a garden bursting with flowers, deep green vines, and the chirping of happy creatures? It was perfection. Our florals captured the natural, organic, effortless grace that I had desired and the large number of guests felt like a small gathering of friends under the cozy canopy of the tent and lights. I felt like a princess and as I glanced over at Christopher, I felt like Cinderella – all night long. I know that may sound cliché or may even a bit silly to some, but truly, I felt …that night… a kind of magic that I’d never experienced before.

Running into the romantic tent and being cheered on was exhilarating, making me wonder if everyone could hear my heartbeat as our first dance began. We had practiced and had laughed, but honestly, in that moment, we were just us – twirling, laughing, and soaking in the lyrics of “By Two” by Dave Barnes. The rest of the evening was filled with the hearts of others, hugging every soul that had come to celebrate us. Everything from the music, the lights, the food, the cake (best cake I’ve ever had – the dark chocolate sea salt cake captured my foodiness perfectly!), and Bailey’s milkshakes cooling us down as Uptown Funk came to a close was more than we could have ever hoped for.

Our last dance… the guests had been ushered to the entrance and there were were alone on the dance floor, my dress had turned gray on the bottom from dancing hard to favorites from Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson, my hair fallen, both of us… sweaty and messy from a night of celebration, his bowtie crooked from many hugs… and although the visual perfection of us had passed, the perfection was complete… we were married, we had celebrated with the best of people, and we were together… it had really happened… I got it all… all I’ll ever want… how did an imperfect, southern girl like me get so lucky? Perhaps it’s not luck, actually I know it’s not luck, but something infinitely greater. I’ve been given a precious gift…life with Christopher… a servant hearted, brave leader, humble explorer, thoughtful philosopher, American hero… I could go on, but as my soul sister Jane Austen would say, he is “everything a young man ought to be.” And he’s mine.

As we walked out into a sea of American flags waving, Christopher dipped me low and kissed me, making me feel more iconic than the girl dipped in New York City on V-Day. As we drove away, I began to cry in an overflow of emotion after all that had taken place. The only words I could muster to my husband, my dear Christopher was “I’m so happy… I’m just so happy.”
