Colorful + Traditional Wedding in Nairobi Kenya

A pretty backdrop is a must for any wedding, in my opinion and today’s sweet I do scenery is next level pretty my friends. Say hello to Kenya. Gorgeous Kenya. Incredible right? With Kibogo Photography behind the lens, these bridal portraits are out of this world.

From Kibogo PhotographyGoing to Kenya is like going home. It’s my husband home country and we visit family and friends on a regular basis and when we are around we usually use the opportunity to shoot weddings or engagement sessions. Kenya is such a beautiful country with good food and very welcoming and friendly people. At least ones in your lifetime you should make it to Kenya. Just say’n… It was an honor to capture Philip and Lorraine’s wedding as we photographed their friends wedding two years ago, which is where we met the first time.

From the bride… Well basically I was visiting a friend in Melbourne as I was living in Adelaide at the time. Went to a party one of the nights and that was the first time we met, back in 2011. He came over, introduced himself and he rejoined his friends! I figured he was shy. I was shy too but he had definitely made an impression! We met later that year during my next visit to Melbourne, we exchanged telephone numbers and kept in touch as friends till I moved to Melbourne for work and further studies! We started dating, got to know each other a bit more, discovered we had a lot in common, and shared common goals. Time went by and the relationship grew stronger and we soon realized that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Got engaged on my birthday and had a beautiful wedding back in our home country in Kenya, surrounded by family and friends.

Oyster-Inspired Southern Soiree on Kiawah Island

If ever there were two cities to wed—it’d be Charleston and Boston in my book. Both cozy and welcoming seaside cities, they’re quaint as can be. So when this native Charlestonian Bride and Boston-bred Groom planned their Big Day with the help of WED, oysters seemed like a fitting detail to tie in. Come along for the journey with imagery by Marni Rothschild and a beautiful film from Hart to Hart Media.

From the Bride… As a native Charlestonian, I grew up around the Southern salt marshes and always knew I wanted to get married on the river. Fortunately, I fell in love with a Boston-bred man who shared my affinity for salt water (and who also happens to be a golfer), so the River Course at Kiawah Island was the dream venue for us.

After selecting the venue and hiring our wedding planner, Ellen Robinson at WED (who also planned my sister’s wedding a few year’s prior), we immediately began thinking about color palettes and themes. Though I don’t eat oysters, I’ve always associated them with the Lowcountry (and my favorite gemstone!) and my oh so brilliant fiance also pointed out the similarities between finding a pearl in an oyster and finding true love – both rare and precious. Once we landed on the oyster theme and our general color palette of navy and grey, I immediately reached out to Kearsley Lloyd, a watercolorist whose work I greatly admire, to paint custom oyster shells for us to use on our printed materials and decor. She was amazing to work with and created a repeat pattern with the shells that Albertine Press then used to make a stunning envelope liner for our invitation suite. Albertine also made a blind debossed version of one of the shells which was letterpressed into the invitation, which gave it the perfect amount of detail while still being classic and elegant. Out of all of the wedding details, that watercolor design was by far our favorite thing and I always say it’s the best money we spent. Erik actually had to pull me back a little bit, because I found myself wanting to put those shells on everything! Looking back, I’m thankful for his editing eye, because our wedding didn’t feel overly themed or kitchy and we both felt like we ended up with the perfect amount of oyster details, from oyster patterned groom/groomsmen bowties and a hand-painted oyster cake plate to the use of oyster shells in the floral arrangements. To complement the oyster theme and showcase our love for all things nautical, we also used nautical charts of the Charleston area in unique ways – from our save-the-dates and custom guest book to the confetti cones we used for our lavender toss send-off.

Since Erik is from Boston, we also wanted to incorporate some playful “North meets South” details, so we served classic New England lobster rolls, Cape Codders and “Southern Belle-inis” during cocktail hour and for favors we opted for a New England classic, Dunkin’ Donuts munchkins, AND Southern staple Krispy Kreme glazed donuts. People loved them and my family was thrilled to end up with the leftovers! At the end of the day, our wedding was the perfect reflection of us as individuals and as a couple, which was the most important thing for us.

“Journey of a Lifetime” Travel Themed Bridal Shower

Our girl Shelby of Pretty in the Pines is officially a married lady (!!!) but before we get our hands on her wedding photos, we’re taking a moment to deep dive her travel-themed bridal shower. Take a peek at all the fun moments captured by Olivia Suriano of Nancy Ray Photography and read on for the details from Shelby.

Hi, SMP friends, Shelby here! I’m here today with some photos of a beautiful travel-themed bridal shower one of my Maid of Honors, Sara, hosted for me a few weeks ago. With the help of Lily and Oak and a few other talented Raleigh vendors, Sara hosted an adventurous soiree with some of my closest family and friends before I embark on the “journey of a lifetime”.

I was blown away by each little thoughtful and creative detail for this shower starting with the watercolored map invitations from One and Only Paper. When I first opened up the invitation envelope, I was in awe of the large watercolor map of the world that read “Love is the Greatest Adventure”. I knew then that this shower was going to be one for the books.

The space in the Mims House in Holly Springs, NC was the cutest blank slate to decorate with globes, vintage suitcases, books, old cameras, and other vintage furniture from Greenhouse Picker Sisters. Wild, organic, florals completed the look and brought a more earthy feel to the intimate white and gray space. One of my favorite parts of the party, as usual, was the global-inspired food setup featuring recipes from all over the world including a Mediterranean bar, Mexican appetizers, Southern cuisine, and Asian bites. There is never any shortage of creativity when it comes to Belle’s Catering and I had a hard time deciding between the Mini Taco Bowls, the Mini Pimento BLT Biscuits, the Ahi Tuna Bites, Shrimp Toast, Greek Flatbread, Mediterranean Cous Cous Cups, Mini Cuban Sliders, and the Chipotle Chicken Meatballs so I just filled my plate up with it all!

The shower was in the late morning/early afternoon so there was a coffee and mimosa bar setup when guests arrive and the “food room” was topped off with calligraphy chalkboard signs created by one of my sweet bridesmaids, Meredith, who owns Oaks and Gray Paper. Always thankful for a bridesmaid that also doubles as a wedding vendor!

As we ate the almost-too-pretty-to-eat vintage map cake, we caught up with friends and family, played some funny bridal shower games, opened up gifts, and sipped on mimosas!

These little celebrations along the way leading up to our wedding day have been so special. There is nothing like having a large group of your favorite people all together in one room so I can only imagine how the wedding will feel. If you’re a bride-to-be, my advice to you would be to slow down and soak in each moment you get to celebrate with your family and friends along the way. It is such a special and unique time in life and it passes by so fast.

Thanks for following along and I can’t wait to reveal our wedding photos soon!

Love,
Shelby

An Adorable 1st Birthday Inspired by Our Favorite Fruity Candy

Pineapple donuts and fruity cookies by Sugar and Cookies are among the many insanely cute details woven into this party planned by Lemon and Lime Event Design (so fitting!). It’s a day to celebrate the first of many birthdays for little Charlotte and it’s bright and colorful cuteness at every turn. Get inspired to throw a Tutti Frutti fete of your own with all the fun snaps by Anna Reynal plus even more right here.

I would have never thought Runts (the candy) would be my main inspiration for a party, but I was wrong! When I started to plan my daughter Charlotte’s first birthday around a fruit theme I landed on getting Runts involved in the invitations. I haven’t seen them around in probably two decades, but good old amazon had them on my doorstep in three days.

I’m a lover of bold and colorful so clearly fruit fit well into that vision. Since the runts were so colorful, I knew the invitation needed to be clear or slightly frosted so that the runts could still be the main attraction. MLC designs helped bring the invitations to life with the design of the invitation, box and box label. Our guests loved them and appreciated the candy flash back!

Every month we took photos of Charlotte for her “month” pictures to watch her grow. We bought the monthly stickers from Lucy Darling that were fruits and each month we’d center our “photoshoots” around that fruit. I printed out all of those photos and made a display on our kitchen table with each month displayed using actual fruit as decor.

I knew I wanted a big display piece and White Glove Rentals had the perfect bar that I turned into a dessert station. Buttercream Bakeshop made the most adorable fruit shaped macaroons in addition to an incredible cake. The bottom layer of the cake was made to look like a gold pineapple with the top layer a watermelon. Sugar and Cookies made an assortment of fruit sugar cookies and I bought coconut donuts from Dunkin Donuts and pineapple toppers from Seventh and J on Etsy to complete the dessert options.

Crimson and Clover found mini pineapple vases for the cocktail tables and her large piece for the dessert station was so lovely — the perfect mix of greenery and bold colors and she of course had to include the mini pineapples.

Meri Meri has some of the cutest fruit decor and I bought a lot of it — plates, napkins, garland, toothpicks and even fruit glasses for photo props. I set up a little “fruit stand” of favors for guests and they chose from fruit socks or mini pads of paper shaped like apples and pears.

Well Crafted Pizza truck offered Pineapple and Raspberry beer and an apple flavored pizza in addition to their traditional offerings, so we were able to carry the fruit flavors over to the pizza and drinks.

It was such a wonderful (and colorful) day celebrating our little girl. It was great to treat all of our friends and family to a fun afternoon to thank them for being so helpful and loving during our first year of parenthood!

This Brooklyn Wedding Was Planned From the Other Side of the World

Planning your wedding from the other side of the world might sound stressful, but this laid-back Bride and Groom took it in stride! With the help of Rock Paper Scissors Events, they created a relaxed, intimate Brooklyn celebration all the way from Australia – they didn’t even step foot in their venue until the week of the wedding! Jennifer Pauls, a sweet friend of the couple,  captured the fun-filled and joyous day, which you can see more of in the Vault.

From Rock Paper Scissors EventsWhen we asked the couple to describe the feel of their ideal wedding, they said relaxed, warm, and intimate. Those ended up being the perfect adjectives to describe this Brooklyn wedding, held at Frankis Spuntino, the closest place locals have to a “backyard.”

Jaime and Rich actually planned their wedding all the way from Australia (the Bride is American and the Groom is Australian) and had never seen the wedding venue in person until they arrived for their wedding week. They told us a great story about why they chose it: “We chose this venue because we have seen ‘Being Frank’ on VICE, and we love the Franks’ passion for genuine, authentic food and the emphasis on family style meals surrounded by people you love.”

Jaime and Rich wanted a wedding that was all heart, with great food and close friends in an unpretentious, comfortable atmosphere. You’ll notice that the Groom wasn’t wearing a suit, and there was no wedding party in matching outfits. The amazing photos were taken by a friend. The whole wedding has this fun, authentic, naturally joyful vibe that radiates from the pictures.

A lot of Brides can learn from Jaime to focus on what is really important – you can create a wedding that is full of meaning without the stress of superficial details. Jaime and Rich brought us in to help create their vision of a gorgeous, natural, laid back design for their wedding day. They were a dream to work with and as laid back, fun and happy as their photos suggest.

Modern + Whimsical Greenhouse Wedding in Austin

Sarah and Jonathan currently call Austin, Texas home and knew it’d be the perfect spot to gather their guests from across the country for an unforgettable celebration. Wanting something different from the typical rustic Texan wedding, they opted for a modern take on Southwestern style with Wild Sky Events planning by their side. The big day included a tented reception thanks to Sperry Tents + Whim Events, but we’re only scratching the surface. Scroll on for every pretty moment captured by our girl, Sophie Epton plus a must-see film from The McKellars below.

From the bride… The first time we met four years ago, we were crammed in the backseat of an SUV on the way to a summer camp director’s meeting. I remember being annoyed I had to sit in the middle, and Jonathan remembers thinking the girl sitting in the middle was pretty cute. A few hours and flirtations later, we parted ways. Jonathan typed up several emails to me and never sent them – he figured he would try his luck when we were working in Boston together that summer. We hit it off after being in Boston together for about ten minutes and have been together ever since. After that summer, we spent the next year together in New York City, sharing tiny apartments, countless dumpling dates and a serious case of wanderlust. After a trip to Austin and an acceptance to graduate school at UT, we packed their lives into several boxes, crammed them into Sarah’s trusty CRV and made the move cross country.

After surviving a three-week trip around the world together, getting Curtis Eggroll Green (our Goldendoodle) and living together for over a year, Jonathan decided it was time to pop the question. After telling both of our families over Thanksgiving and letting my sister try on the ring before I knew anything was going on, we hopped on a flight to Portugal and Spain to celebrate the holidays in December 2015. On top of a castle in the seaside town of Sintra, Jonathan proposed and I said yes (and proceeded to happy cry for an entire day).

When it came time to get down to planning, we were overwhelmed – our families live scattered all over the country and we were some of the first of our friends to get married, so we were flying blind. We finally decided where better to gather all of our loved ones than the city where we call home now? Once we decided to get married in Austin, the next steps were hiring a wedding planner and photographer. Kate from Wild Sky Events was truly incredible – she has such a unique vision and always had a plan B, C and Z ready if plan A couldn’t work. The moment I met Sophie Epton and saw her work, I knew no one else could capture our day. She and her husband Jordan are the most genuinely kind and wonderful people, and working with them was a complete blast, which was echoed by our huge families that Sophie and Jordan expertly wrangled at the wedding.

We searched for months for a venue that would work with my wish list – I didn’t want a hotel wedding and didn’t want anything too rustic, which is a tall order in Texas. Luckily, as soon as we saw The Greenhouse at Driftwood I knew it was just right. The towering cacti, the bluebonnets blooming and the grand glass greenhouses were the perfect blend of modern and southwestern charm I was looking for.

All of our vendors did a stunning job – Gypsy Florals brought me to tears when I first saw by the bouquet and the chuppah was absolutely breathtaking. The nailed my whimsical and modern aesthetic perfectly. Contigo catering made hands down the best custom cocktails, and the food was spot on – so many of our guests have asked us for the recipes to the “The Curtis,” our signature vodka cocktail! The videography by The McKellars is such a special keepsake that I will cherish forever. I could not have been more in love with our custom acrylic seating chart by The Inviting Pear, and the Sperry tent by Whim with the twinkling lights was the stuff of my wedding dreams.

There were so many incredible moments I wish I could relive – my sister zipping me up in my dress and helping me put on our late mom’s jewelry, Jonathan and I reading our original vows to each other in front of everyone we love, my dad’s side-splitting speech, dancing like crazy to 90s throwbacks…the list is endless. We couldn’t be more grateful to our parents for giving us the best weekend of our lives and to our family and friends for their love and support, on our wedding day and every other day.

10 Things Your Wedding Planner Wishes You Knew

You’ve enlisted the help of a wedding planner to execute your vision for your big day – great decision! But now you want to know how to make the most of that investment. Jessica and Michael Masi of Masi Events are here to help. They’ve pulled together the 10 things your wedding planner wishes you knew so the days leading up to your wedding go as smoothly and stress free as possible.

1. Take a Moment

Take time for your own planning during the process. Even though your wedding planner will save you time and money, make sure to be timely in your responses when they send you information or present you with vendors. For example, if they send you band recommendations and you don’t respond until a month later, those bands might not still be available. But the most important moment to take is on the wedding day itself. Pause and be present. The day will go by quickly.

2. Trust in Us

Trust the wedding professionals you hire and their process. Make sure to give them the flexibility they need to do their jobs. For example, when it comes to photography, definitely do a photo shot list with groupings of your family and friends. However, don’t give them the exact angles and poses you want. Trust the creativity of your photographer and let them decide where the lighting is best that day and what arrangement will work the best. By giving your planner and other vendors flexibility and trusting their expertise, you will get the best results.

3. Organize Your Ideas

Your planner gets invited to a lot of Pinterest boards titled “Wedding” or “Wedding Ideas” etc. Title your board with initials or your last names for easier reference for your planner. Also make sure to include comments on what you like about the photo you pinned. If it’s a photo of a close up of a bride and her bouquet, the planner might think you love the bouquet, but in reality, it was the wedding dress that you were drawn to.

4. Don’t Be a Copy Cat

There are a lot of ideas circulating online, on social media, and in magazines. While it’s okay to draw inspiration from these photos, don’t try to replicate them. Trust your planner and give them details about you as a couple so they can create a wedding that is unique to you. There is nothing more crushing to a creative soul than telling them to make an exact copy of a centerpiece or idea.

5. Communication Is Everything

Read through the timeline your planner provides carefully. If you have something in mind and it is not on there, then they probably don’t know about your desire for a special dance or incorporating a tradition. If it is not on the timeline, then it won’t happen because your planners are not aware and will not be able to coordinate it with the other vendors.

6. Find a Personality Match

A wedding planner is a personal decision. They have to be a good personality fit since you are working with them sometimes a year or more out before the wedding day. It is important to not just request packages, but to take the time to meet with them in person or schedule a call to make sure it is mutually a good fit. This is also a great way to start cultivating a relationship with them and a wonderful partnership.

7. Schedule Vendor Meetings in Advance

When scheduling meetings or planning a trip to plan for a destination wedding, work with your wedding planner to check in with all the vendors you’d like to meet with prior to booking flights to make sure they are available. For example, you don’t want to assume that you will be able to schedule a tasting if the chef is out that week. Also allow for 2-3 business days for your planner to confirm your appointments. Wedding vendors work weddings over the weekend and typically are not available for client meetings during that time.

8. Bad Weather Happens to Good People

Make sure to be realistic about weather calls and be happy with your Plan B scenario in the case of inclement weather when selecting a venue. A while back, at one of the most beautiful weddings we planned, it rained during ceremony. We had umbrellas for all of the guests while the clients embraced the rain and did not allow the weather to damper their special day.

Often times, clients only think about how the weather might affect the wedding itself. However, it is important to consider the impact that inclement weather will also have during the setup, which may call for going with Plan B.

9. We’re Not Out to Crush Your Dreams

Sometimes your wedding planner will suggest not doing something or replacing one idea for another. There is always a good reason behind the suggestion. Our recommendations are based on past experiences, logistics, and expertise – every suggestion is with our clients’ best interest in mind.

An example of this was when we received a request prior to the wedding day to carry and move a 6 tier wedding cake over to the dance floor during the reception for cake cutting. Analyzing this scenario logistically, there were too many variables for this to become an epic fail, and we advised the couple to cut the wedding cake from the existing location.

10. Don’t Over Analyze Your Decisions

The planning process should be fun and enjoyable! It’s important when planning a wedding to review the information presented to you and be able to make decisions so you can move on to the next part of the planning process. If you don’t absolutely love something from the start, then you most likely won’t like it later, so don’t overwhelm yourself with overanalyzing something.

Planning a wedding takes time, and the goal of your wedding planner is to make this experience stress free as we scratch things off the to do list. While your planner is there to guide you, ultimately the final decision is yours.

How to Choose Vendors for Your Destination Wedding

Choosing the right wedding vendors is important because these are the people who are going to bring your vision to life. With so many options and opinions, it’s hard to know where to begin. Add in the idea of a destination wedding with vendors in a different city or country and your head starts to spin! But it doesn’t have to be such a daunting task with these helpful tips on picking the right vendors for your destination wedding.

Lauren Kinsey Fine Art Weddings

Hire a wedding planner.
There’s a certain appeal to hiring someone who planned the perfect wedding for one of your close friends in your hometown. You know what you’re getting and you feel confident about the referral but if that planner has never been to your wedding location, it might pose a few problems.

“Picking a planner who knows the location is important as they can guide couples on vendors in the area that will work well,” says Peggy Russell, Principal Designer and Owner of Destination Wedding Studio.

Do your research and set a budget in advance.
Talk with your fiancé and family to determine a budget you’re comfortable with. Your wedding planner can also help you set a realistic budget and will be able to give good advice based on the vendors they know in the area. Don’t schedule meetings with vendors who are well outside of your budget or already booked on your wedding date. You don’t want to fall in love with vendors that are out of your price range or can’t accommodate your wedding.

Have as many in-person meetings as possible. FaceTime and Skype are great options, too!
You may fall in love with the vendor’s style but you also need to make sure your personalities mesh well, especially with vendors like a photographer who will be with you most of the wedding day. Try to schedule a few trips to the location before the wedding date if possible so you aren’t booking anything sight-unseen. Ask for client referrals in the meantime. Most vendors will be happy to provide you with feedback from their past clients.

Greg Finck Photography

Get everything in writing and review all contracts.
If the vendor doesn’t provide it for you, ask them for an itemized list of everything that is included in the quoted price. At a destination wedding, it’s especially important to make sure things like pick up and drop off are being handled by the vendor. Ask for clarification if anything is unclear.

Michelle Boyd Photography

Once you feel confident with the team of vendors you’ve selected, be sure to give them clear instructions throughout the planning process so that you can relax on the wedding day. Allow them to do their jobs while you enjoy this special day with your family and friends.

Style Me Pretty Contributor – Kristen Lauck is the owner and lead planner at Marie Rose Events based in Oklahoma City. When she isn’t working, you’ll find her spending time outside or enjoying a glass of wine and cooking dinner at home with her husband.

Four Ways to Host the Ultimate Out-of-the-Box Celebration

If you’re a bride that does things a little, well… differently, then you definitely need to host a wedding that matches your unique personality. Because showing off that sassy side will only make your party that much more fun. Need help achieving that dream, out-of-the-box celebration? We’re runnimpong down a list of four steps that are guaranteed to make that happen… and all with the help of the W Atlanta – Buckhead. Dive in below.

ONE: CHOOSE A WEDDING VENUE THAT EMBRACES YOUR VISION

It all starts with the right locale, which means finding a place that will embrace your unique ideas and throw that wedding rule book out the window. We’re thinking a prime spot in the heart of the city like the W Atlanta – Buckhead with its gorgeous venue options and awesome accommodations that your guests will absolutely love. I mean, this is more than just a wedding… this is the party of the century. And you need a location that will totally get on board.

TWO: MAKE IT A WEDDING WEEKEND, NOT JUST AN EVENING

You’ve never been one to do things by the book – and saying “I do” to the one you love is a celebration that should last as long as possible. So instead of just partying for one night, why not turn your wedding into one of the best vacations you’ll ever take, fab friends + family included? Just make sure to fill your itinerary with an endless amount of fun-filled activities, like shopping, entertainment and dining at the best restaurants.

THREE: SURPRISE YOUR GUESTS WITH THOUGHTFUL TOUCHES

Choosing a venue like the W Atlanta – Buckhead? It’s the first step to winning over your guests. The second step? Filling their stay with thoughtful touches that will really make a statement. From welcome bags that celebrate your hosting city to a pre-wedding parties at amazing restaurants to luxe accommodations, you’ll want to make sure they truly enjoy their stay. This Gorgeous Elopement Captures the Spirit of Morocco

Where to even begin with this Moroccan wedding inspiration, planned and captured by Stefanie Kapra Photography? Inspired by the models, a recently engaged French couple who relocated and opened a guest house in Morocco, Stefanie and a small team of talented vendors created a light, airy, and natural looking elopement that effortlessly combined Western details with the magic of Morocco. You should probably head straight to this gallery, because you’re going to want to pin every insanely gorgeous.

From Stefanie Kapra PhotographyGaby and Alice fell in love with each more than 10 years ago, and as Alice puts it, they “are meant to be together.” When this adventurous French couple first visited Morocco, they were immediately drawn to the unique country and its people. To them, “Morocco is a special country where magic happens in every corner and in every way.” They decided to follow their hearts and dreams, and two years ago they opened a guest house in the Medina of Marrakech.

During their Moroccan journey, they met another inspiring young woman – American born Anouk. She, too, left behind the glam of New York and Paris, where she worked as assistant editor for French Vogue, to follow her dreams in Morocco, where she created Villa Anouk. It can best be described as a magical sanctuary between wild olive trees and stony country roads and is tucked away at the end of a dirt road near the coastal town of Essaouria. Anouk purchased an old and somewhat neglected country house with massive stone walls and turned it into the most beautiful villa you can imagine. Her love for detail and great sense for natural elegance shows in every corner of the fully remodeled villa. Enchanting and brimming with an earthy, boho vibe, the villa embodies tranquillity and is a perfect location to celebrate intimate weddings of nature-loving couples.

When Gaby proposed to Alice, they started planing a full sized wedding in their home country (France) with family and friends. But it was also important to them to celebrate their love and capture some romantic pictures in their new home, Morocco. What place could have been more perfect than their friend’s villa?

This shoot and the beautiful details are a result of great teamwork and an inspiration that truly came from the heart. It was important to everyone to include the magic, soul, and spirit of Morocco, its unique arts, lovely decor, and amazing food, while steering away from the so often seen “One Thousand and One Nights” vibe. Details included the handmade wedding blankets which have a long tradition in Morocco purchased in the Souks, the refreshing fresh mint tea served in a brass teapot, the typical pastries that can be found in every market, and of course the many artisan details of the Villa.

But while it was important to incorporate traditional Moroccan details, this magical Moroccan elopement still has a Western twist. Western elements were effortlessly combined with traditional Moroccan pieces, and so we see Alice in a flowing, traditional white wedding dress with delicate lace details and an open back, and she is carrying a bohemian wild-flower bouquet. Her hair is styled in a loose, soft, and natural yet festive way, perfectly matching the vibe of the Villa. And the swoon-worthy invitations are designed and hand-written by the talented calligrapher, Ana of The Meaningful Script, using natural papers, a golden seal, and brass colored ribbon. This elopement is a perfect example how Moroccan tradition can be perfectly combined with western elegance to create an airy, stylish, natural look for a wedding in this stunning country.

Windy Anniversary Session in the Desert

It should come as no surprise that I think life should be captured along every step of the way… engagements, weddings, babies—but why stop there? Anniversary sessions are such a sweet way to capture your love throughout the years. When my husband and I decide to do one, I’m keeping Greg Finck‘s number in my back pocket. Oh, do I get all the heart eyes every. single. time. he sends something our way, and this anni’ sesh is no exception. Just look at that dress flowing in the desert wind!

From Greg FinckThis is Kristin & Brandon’s anniversary session at Red Rock Canyon, in the Nevada desert. Kristin & Brandon are a couple of wedding photographers from Orange County, and you will not contradict me on the fact that they both look like models… On our way to WPPI, the yearly wedding photography conference that happens at Las-Vegas every year, they asked me to photograph them for their anniversary. Kristin had a stunning Show Me Your MuMu dress, with neutral colors, that perfectly matched the overcast mood of the day. The day was very windy and cold, but we still had a great session, walking around the red rocks of that beautiful National Park!

Completely Classic New Orleans Wedding

This wedding photographed by Lance Nicoll is like a love letter to New Orleans. It’s the city where the bride, Molly grew up and she couldn’t think of a better spot to begin her forever with Matthew. From their classic church ceremony to the botanical garden reception, Molly and Matthew’s special day is what timeless elegance is all about.

From Lance Nicoll... Molly is passionate about her home where she grew up and wanted her Fall wedding to be inspired by its location. The oyster shell ring dishes and pearl invitations with custom illustrations fit seamlessly into the violet and cream color scheme. The bride and bridesmaids spent the morning at Molly’s childhood home and were adorned in violet gowns. The Church ceremony was downtown at the Immaculate Conception, a beautifully ornate and classic New Orleans Church. The day wedding continued at the Botanical Gardens where guests were invited to spend time in the lush gardens, enjoying music, food, and time with friends and family.

Travel to Greece for a Breathtaking Wedding by the Sea

Greece is one of the most magical spots that blends weathered white architecture with the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and this inspiration is a direct reflection of its surroundings. Designed by Mazi Event, this intimate elopement pulls from the colors of the ocean, and folds in elegant details for a look both easy and glamorous. Captured by Anna Roussos, get inspired by the true beauty of the Grecian landscape and this intimate wedding by the sea.

From the planner… Starting to draw the canvas for an inspirational photo shoot in such a regal destination, Spetses, was a creative spring time journey. This intimate elopement had an aery style, a mix of vintage and contemporary elements, with a feel of earthy opulence. Inspired by the natural aura of Spetses we created a color palette composed of grey, clean white and dusty green hues. Our conceptual mood board, was based on one of the Circles of Life: That of marriage. Beginning and completion, wholeness, diversity, fertility, regeneration, strength and balance are essential for a couple to endure the test of time, to flourish and relish the greatest gift given to them: their love. All preparations were made in the historic Poseidonion Grand Hotel with the highest standards. Inspired by the power of the circle we created the invites, envelopes, a map, menus, flower arrangements, even treats for the guests and the wedding cake, to accentuate the strength of this perfect form of nature with no start, no end and no imperfections. The Seed of Life mandala pattern -the universal symbol of creation- applied in selected details with respects to the concept, made everything come together. A traditional horse carriage drove the couple to the beach where everything was ready for an ethereal wedding. The couple barefoot, equal and united, whispered their meaningful vows under the tones of the violin. The beachfront family table was already set up for an intimate dinner. All the decorative details radiated a royal beauty with al fresco flower arrangements composed with greeneries and white flowers, calligraphy menus with sealing wax on water colored handmade papers, marble sous-plats, tasteful silver cutlery and glassware. Silk wedding favors with silver calligraphy engraved details were personalized for each guest. We were so content to work with such a talented team of professionals for this, our debut project, and see our vision come to life. Anna Roussos captured every detail with the most creative eye. Enjoy!

Get Ready to Add This to Your Dream Home Pinterest Board

The ladies of Austin Bean Design Studio always have me at hello. Hello fabulous spotted wallpaper, hello bright and happy rug, hello dream office with a view… I could go on and on. But seriously anything they touch goes right into the “Someday I want a House Like This” pinterest board. Tour their latest and greatest project that includes the aforementioned dream office, the perfect blush colored bath and a laundry room that I would probably give up my first born for. See it all captured by Kacey Gilpin right here.

It’s always a treat to work with friends and I was thrilled when this family asked Austin Bean to design the master suite addition. The architectural design was focused on tying the master suite into the living spaces and taking advantage of the amazing views toward the backyard (and small chicken coop – cutest ever). Lucky for us our client, Kate, has impeccable taste and a flair for flirty.

The Dos + Don’ts When Putting Together a Guest List

Creating your guest list can be one of the most fun – or most dreaded – tasks when planning your wedding. Between keeping your parents happy and managing your budget, who and how many people you invite will have a major impact on your big day. That’s why the experts at Cristen & Co. are here to help! From b-lists to plus ones, they share the dos and don’ts of putting together your guest list.

1. Establish Your Budget First

Think about your total wedding budget before you create your guest list because the more people you invite, the more you will be spending. The average cost for a wedding here in New England for 150 guests is between $60,000 – $70,000. You have to choose – and pay for – a venue with the capacity to fit your total guest count, and you’ll have to pay for food and beverage, invitations, stationery, rentals like place settings and chairs, florals for centerpieces and more based off of the number of people you invite. The cost of a wedding adds up quickly, and you need to be realistic about how many people you can afford to have attend.

2. Begin With Your Nearest + Dearest

After determining your total wedding budget, begin writing down your immediate family members and closest friends. The be mindful who is footing the bill of your wedding – if your parents are gifting you the budget for your wedding, make sure you give them the opportunity to invite some guests, too. If you have the budget, then feel free to add more guests after that.

3. It’s Okay to Be Exclusive

You don’t have to invite everyone under the sun! Remember, you don’t necessarily have to invite work colleagues – you may or may not be at the same job forever, and if you aren’t super close with them, then don’t spend the additional money to invite them. Ensure all the important people are there first!

4. Should You Have a B-List?

I get this question quite often from my couples, especially if we are working within a certain budget but they have super large families or friend groups. You can definitely expect roughly 10-15 guests that won’t be able to attend, so if you are going to have a b-list, create it early on. Don’t put close friends or immediate family on a b-list, instead think acquaintances, colleagues or extended family members. Have a second set of RSVP cards printed with a later date for your b-list group. Remember, don’t send a save-the-date to your b-list.

5. The Rules of the “Plus One”

If you’re inviting a family member or friend that is engaged to be married, it is expected to give them a plus one. If your friend or family member has a very serious boyfriend or girlfriend and you know their significant other, it would be proper etiquette to give them a plus one as well! However, if it is a single guest, and they aren’t dating anyone, you do not have to give them a plus one. Most single guests tend to expect a plus one and can sometimes be a little upset if they don’t get it, but it is up to you and your wedding budget if you want to allow it or not. However, be mindful of your single guests and seat them around mutual friends so you know they will have a good time!
