How to Pack for Your Destination Wedding

When you have a destination wedding, one of the things brides often forget to think about is the packing. With tons of restrictions, and the possibility of (gasp!) losing your luggage, what you pack, what you carry on, and what you ship are super important things to think about prior to the big day.

WHAT TO PUT IN CHECKED LUGGAGE:
Extra Clothes
You may have the entire week planned out, but there are always things that happen out of our control. Throw an extra white dress for the rehearsal dinner or an extra bathing suit for daytime activities in your checked luggage—you never know if you spill something or simply decide you want more options.

Honeymoon Items
While you don’t need these items close to you in your carry on bag, don’t forget to bring them! Whether you are jetting off on your honeymoon right after the wedding or waiting a few days, be sure to pack enough items to get you through the romantic getaway (and don’t forget a few special items for your new to-be!).

Toiletries
If you need any important medications, carry those on with you! But for items like your hair dryer, shampoo, and face wash, pack those in your checked luggage. While you may be slightly disappointed if they don’t make it to you on time, the hotel or nearby area (or better yet, one of your bridesmaids!) will likely have everything you need, so save the room in your purse for more important things.

WHAT TO CARRY ON:
Your Wedding Dress
We can’t stress this one enough! Other than you and your fiancé, your wedding dress is the most important part of the day—don’t leave it in the hands of a TSA agent or UPS worker. Just keep in mind that many airlines have restrictions on carrying on your dress: some may even require you to buy a separate seat for it. Do your research ahead of time so you aren’t surprised when you get to the airport.

Important Outfits
While your “extra” outfits can be packed away under the plane, your important outfits (rehearsal dinner outfit, post-wedding lingerie, brunch attire) should all be kept close to you in your carry on. If you find yourself running out of room, enlist your mom or BFF to stash some things in their carry-on bags—you’ll feel better knowing everything you need is right next to you the entire trip.

Family Heirlooms
If you’re incorporating family heirlooms into your big day, put them in your carry on. Some things may be too big for this to be possible, but your grandma’s serving spoons or vintage photos of your great aunt have a less chance of getting ruined if there are with you.

WHAT TO SHIP:
DIY Projects
Anything you need to make once you get to your destination, and even things you’ve made ahead of time, should be shipped. Just be wary: DIY projects are usually the easiest things to break, so pack them correctly and ship them knowing they may not arrive exactly as they were left.

Wedding Favors
If your wedding favors don’t make it, will it really ruin your wedding? Hopefully not. And although they will most likely make it to you on time, wasting the room in your checked or carry-on luggage isn’t worth it. Just be sure to ship things as far ahead as possible to ensure they arrive on time.

Welcome Basket Items
The same can be said for welcome basket items. If this doesn’t make it through customs, you can probably send a groomsman out to re-purchase all the items in a timely manner. Just note: for any items you do decide to ship, be sure to check with your hotel about their storage policies; they may arrive in one piece, but have nowhere to go once they do.

A Picture Perfect Destination Wedding in Maui

A gorgeous oceanfront location in Maui, a stunning Chantilly scallop trim detail at the dramatic backline of the gown, and endless smiles and kisses are the recipe for a picture perfect wedding day. Belle Destination Weddings + Events helped create this delightful destination wedding, and it wall all captured by Love + Water Photography.

Mia and Adam’s wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua on Maui was one of our favorite events to date – the couple was endlessly in love and full of smiles the entire day. Of course, the beautiful location was a huge bonus. The photography team at Love + Water went off site for photos and then booked it back to the beach to capture the last of the light – and the sunset didn’t disappoint. Mandy Grace Designs adorned family style tables with whimsical centerpieces of white florals and simple greenery. Mia was stunning in a low-back Katie May lace gown. The team at Merriman’s provided a farm to table dinner to everyone’s delight. It was a magical destination wedding!

The Recipe for a Whimsical Southern Wedding

Time and again, I’ve heard brides-to-be tell me how they found inspiration for their big day on Style Me Pretty, making it such an honor to log on every day. But the credit goes to our Little Black Book members and vendors for constantly creating the pretty for us to showcase. That lovely at hand? A dose of Southern wedding inspiration, infused with whimsy—blooms crafted with care by Poppy + Mint, details designed by Logan Doerries Design and Melissa’s Fine Pastries on cake duty… all which make for one stunner of a gallery.

From Poppy + Mint Floral CompanyWe were supremely inspired by the grounds of Southern Oaks Plantation, and Logan of Logan Doerries Design styled the shoot to highlight a theme of whimsical elegance and Southern charm! The moss covered trees, and the stately columns of the venue provided the most stunning backdrop to accomplish this theme. Overall, we wanted the shoot to be romantic and timeless. The gown provided by Wedding Belles tied our theme together, perfectly! We wanted to stay within a mostly neutral palette while still incorporating subtly colorful tones, and Destiny with Poppy + Mint Floral Company created the most breathtaking floral that perfectly fit this bill. The floral inspired cake provided by Melissa’s Fine Pastries complimented the florals in a lovely way! We also highlighted other southern elements such as the horses dressed in greenery wreaths, a classic rolls royce, and magnolia leaves and moss from the property to accent our custom stationery suite by Lady Adelaide, and southern details recently acquired from the Magnolia in Waco! Marissa Lambert captured the day through film, which gave a dreamy and ethereal vibe that radiated through each photograph.

Multicultural Enchanted Ballroom Wedding

Amanda and Aaron are busy young professionals who wanted a thoughtfully designed wedding minus all the planning stress. They teamed up with the amazing Lisa Stoner Events, explaining their vision for a multicultural, enchanted ballroom wedding and Lisa (needless to say) hit it out of the park. She brought the outdoors in with 12-foot trees plus greenery galore and Amalie Orange Photography and Seltzer Films captured the moments these two will treasure for a lifetime.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/214184848 600 338]

From Lisa Stoner, wedding planner and designer… Amanda and Aaron’s wedding planning story was not unlike many professional couples today; Aaron as a budding oral surgeon and Amanda as a full-time nurse, pursuing her Master’s Degree in Nursing. Hailing from Texas, Amanda was new to Orlando, and I didn’t want the overwhelming planning to take away the joy in the leading months to their wedding.

Amanda very simply explained to me that her favorite place to decompress and have a glass of wine with Aaron was on their backyard deck. It gave her a sense of tranquility in their very busy lives. That’s all I needed to know! I went forth with the idea to create an elevated and elegant aesthetic by bringing in 12 foot live trees, ferns, garlands of greenery and magical fairy lights intertwined in all of it with the help of my talented design partners. Revealing this enchanting ballroom “backyard” to her and Aaron just before guests were invited inside, was certainly the highlight of the entire process!

From the bride Amanda… I was born in the beautiful state of Texas but my mom is from Belize and my dad is from Trinidad and Tobago. I really wanted to celebrate culture because I wanted to share with other people at least a small part of what makes me who I am.

Jumping the broom: Was used by slaves starting in the 1840s-1850s to symbolize the sealing of a union – since most marriages around the ties of slavery were not recognized. In the 20th century what was seen initially as a custom that was essentially pushed upon the African Americans is now seen as a fun and treasured ceremony.

When I initially told Aaron about this idea he was not all that interested and then the next thing I knew he was taking a stick from a tree in the backyard, peeling the bark off of it and sanding it down so it was completely smooth. He took a huge branch that bears the fruit on the palm tree and trimmed that back to make the actual broom itself. He used twine to put all of it together – and carved our initials and wedding date into it. So it’s really meaningful because it was totally handmade from parts of plants around our home.

I always knew when I got married I wanted to have a pan player somehow incorporated into the wedding as a nod to my dad and his home country. In Trinidad and Tobago before Ash Wednesday there is an annual celebration called Carnival. I went for the first time in 2012 and that was also the first time my dad had ever played mas. Playing mas means you’ve chosen a masquerade band to participate with and you’ll be chippin (a march/shuffle/dance combo step) alongside mas goers with a similar costume.

The Junkanoo band we hired was based out of The Bahamas, but the feeling it gave was very similar to that of a small band in Carnival. I wanted our guests to not just come to a wedding – I wanted them to have an experience. The band, along with everything else, laid such an amazing foundation to really add a taste of culture to our wedding.

All the Reason You Need to Travel to Costa Rica

I can’t imagine it would take much to get someone to book a trip to Costa Rica. The gorgeous locale is reason enough. But when you add in a workshop at Harmony Hotel filled with everything from morning beach yoga to tropical floral arranging, surfing and dinners under the stars, it sure ups the ante. Have a look at the inaugural Pura Vida Peartree workshop masterminded by Liza of Peartree Flowers. It’s a beautiful mix of creativity and adventures in the sun all captured by Heather Waraksa.

More about Pura Vida Peartree from Liza… The workshop is a week long exploration of movement and creativity spanning a wide range of pursuits from raw desert making (with Emily Aumiller of Lael Cakes), surfing lessons, floral arranging workshops (with Liza + Sarah Blasi from Selva Floral), jungle foraging, vinyasa yoga, and book making + botanical illustrations in the magical surroundings of Nosara, Costa Rica.

I’ve admired the Harmony Hotel’s commitment to sustainability and tranquility, and their love affair Nosara since I started coming to this sleepy surf town in 2011. One of the things I love so much about Nosara is the way this town provides for the people in it – how the heat forces a balance between work and relaxation; how the sweet smells add calm to a surfing lesson. A couple years ago, I was brainstorming retreat ideas at the Harmony Juice Bar and realized that despite the plethora of retreats in and around Nosara, none offered the right creative component. I was curious how different crafts and disciplines could play off each other in a workshop environment: would a yoga class in the morning influence flower arranging in the afternoon? When the Harmony Hotel stepped in to host Peartree’s inaugural workshop, it all came together. Last November, the second Puravida Peartree workshop took place, combining movement + creativity, ocean marveling, and human connection. We turned the yoga/surf retreat paradigm on its side, injecting flower arranging classes, botanical illustrations, book making and raw dessert classes into the week’s curriculum alongside jungle vinyasa and surfing, of course.

Our students were able to experiment with locally-sourced Costa Rican product including mokara orchids, anthiriums and local fruits like passion fruit and papaya to create tropical pieces with a loose, whimsical flair. We had fun styling each student’s arrangement, collaborating and taking photos so that each student could go home with a portfolio of his or her own work. Our week culminated with a beautiful styled Tico dinner at the Harmony’s Restaurant that brought together the creative courses of the entire week. We divided the group into teams to work on portions of the evening’s decor. Some people worked on decorating cakes (lead by Lael Cakes owner Emily Aumiller). Others began work on the table’s flowers and overhead tropical floral installation.

We rotated throughout the day so everyone could touch all parts of the design that interested them. Teachers stepped out of their disciplines to work in new spaces. My favorite part of the evening was when everyone interacted with the decor. It eliminated the museum-like quality some styled events portray and instead got to the core of the workshop’s motivation. Nosara holds a balance of personal and community space unlike any I’ve ever encountered. The people that connect with Nosara forge that connection from different beginnings, and with different ends in mind. When they do fall in love with being there, as I have, there’s a unifying sense of place, of collaboration and kindness, where each person’s passion can support and elevate another’s. The students at last year’s Pura Vida Peartree were each creating for their own sakes, for their own enrichment and enjoyment. But the collaborations are what elevated each of us, myself included, and the results were beyond my expectations.

When Classic Blue China Inspires Your Wedding Day

When it came to the look and feel of their wedding day, David and Kyle knew exactly what they were going for. A classic tented affair with blue hues and timeless calligraphy details by Bien Fait. They thoughtfully incorporated blue and white china collected by the bride’s mother and the end result is a day so lovely it will take your breath away. More from m three studios right this way!

From the photographer, m three studioThere are moments in life when the stars seem to align. Everything goes your way and it’s as if you are living with the golden touch. If you are extra lucky, that day happens on your wedding day, like it did for David & Kyle. I could go on and on about how gorgeous this day is, and it is. But there is so much from this day. So much love, beauty, so much JOY, friendship, kindness, depth, tradition, style…it is the muchness that gets you. And Kyle and David? They soaked it all in, appreciating every second.

From the planner, Tailored EngagementsKyle and her mom had a clear vision for the wedding day and I was totally on board with it. We incorporated their blue China collection throughout the entire day and used a neutral color palette to keep things subtle and romantic. The look and feel of the day were so fitting for a bride who looks effortlessly beautiful with no makeup in a baseball hat. It was a simple style with tons of light and a natural garden feel. The clear top tent, romantic flowers, and natural elements all came together beautifully. We were so in love with this couple and their style.

From the Bride, Kyle… David and I first officially met after I invited him to Cincinnati Reds game senior year of college- thanks to one of my bridesmaids, Allison, for the suggestion! Up until that day I had heard a tale or two about David, but we never crossed paths. That night we hit it off and even pretended to be engaged at a bar that night (free drinks!) and the rest was history. After five years of dating, two of which were long distance, David asked me to marry him in our apartment in Chicago. We spent the rest of the day and night celebrating with family and friends. I couldn’t have planned a more perfect day myself.

I had always pictured myself getting married outside in a tent. So much so, that before we picked out the venue we found a vendor that had clear-top tents in the Milwaukee Area. Once that was squared away, we looked at a few venues in the area for good measure, but the Milwaukee Country Club was a top choice from the beginning. First, there was a level of comfort since my family had belonged there for some time, but after meeting with the club manager we could perfectly imagine the day there- everything from getting ready to cocktails to dinner and dancing. All the details fell into place once we made that decision.

In terms of a style, if I were to choose a few words to describe our wedding it would be classic and romantic, with a touch of rustic. It was important to us to try our best to have a timeless wedding that was still organic and relaxed. Blue is our favorite color which made selecting the overall color scheme an easy choice. It happens to be my mom’s favorite color as well, which played a key part in decor later on. All of the blue and white vases we used for the cocktail hour and entrance were collected by mom throughout the years. We tied this theme in with the blue and white china settings on the head table.

My favorite part of planning was the time I got to spend with my parents. They were a huge help throughout the whole process! Whether it was coming to the tasting or helping us select flowers, they always gave the perfect amount of feedback and support. While there were a few stressful moments, the amount laughs and good memories we created will always be in the forefront of my mind.

Lastly, and most importantly, David and I wanted the day to be fun, enjoyable and memorable for everyone that was a part of it. That brings me to my one piece of advice for anyone that is planning a wedding- having an event coordinator or wedding planner made our wedding day stress-free. This not only allowed us both to fully take in every minute of the day but also allowed our families to enjoy our wedding. It goes by so quickly! It’s important to embrace all the love and even the unexpected events that come your way.

A Central Park Engagement Session Never Goes Out of Style

There are few places more romantic than Central Park in the spring – I love Central Park so much, in fact, that I took some of my own engagement photos there. Between the pretty pink blooms on the trees, the warm light, and the general buzz of joy and activity all around, it’s the perfect place to commemorate a new beginning – like this dreamy engagement session by Greer Gattuso Photography. Don’t miss a single photo of this one – they’re all waiting for you in the gallery!

Caitlin and Brooks are having a destination wedding in New Orleans but decided they wanted their engagement photos in New York where they live. Beautiful Central Park in the spring made for a beautiful backdrop.

The Basics Of Wedding Gift-Giving For Your Parents

They’ve been there from day one, and during this incredibly special moment of your life, your mom and dad have supported you with love, planning and advice, and maybe even financially. As a thank you for all of their help, both for your pending nuptials and throughout your life, plan to honor your parents with a gift of gratitude. Check out these basics of gift-giving for your parents.

Kelsey Combe Photography

Choose the right time
It’s tradition to present your gift prior to the wedding, but that doesn’t mean you have to give them your gift on the day of your wedding; after all, the day of could be hectic and you might even have a few jitters that result in forgetting the presents in your bridal room. Many couples decide to honor their parents at the rehearsal dinner, but the right time is all up to you. Whether you publicly present a slideshow of family pictures dedicated to your parents at the rehearsal dinner, or you find a moment later that evening to give them a special token of thanks in private, any time is appropriate and will be well-received by Mom and Dad.

Make it personal
Sure, planning a weekend getaway for your parents is a very generous thank you, but, of course, not every budget allows for that extravagant of a gift. Instead, choose something more personal that your parents will cherish after the wedding is over. A print of the lyrics of their own first dance song, a special cocktail named after them at the reception, and, of course, a handwritten thank you note will go a long way in letting your parents know just how much you appreciate them.

Make it useful
Choose a gift that will not only be a special memento of your big day, but will also be useful on your big day. Spiff up your father with a personalized tie clip he can use on the day of your wedding, or present your mom with a delicate piece of jewelry to wear with her dress. The waterworks will, or course, be flowing, so make sure they each have an embroidered handkerchief to dab away the happy tears.

Go handmade
Remember how proudly your artwork was hung on the refrigerator? Mom and Dad will still proudly display any handmade piece you make. Rather than buying a picture frame, put your DIY skills to use and make one yourself, or write a poem that thanks them for all of their love. If you’re not so handy or artsy, an artisan crafted piece is always more special than anything purchased from a big-box store.

First Mate Photography

Picture it
Not only is this one of the most important days of your life, but it’s also a momentous occasion for your parents. Chances are, they will want to relive each magical moment and show it off, too. Create a personalized photo book of the professional photos of your wedding and present it to your parents after the wedding. They’ll beam with pride with every page turned.

Should You Try These 4 Nutrition Trends?

Nutrition and wellness trends are on the rise, with new topics seemingly sprouting up daily. From the latest detox diet and superfood, to the hottest supplements and protein powders, there is no shortage of nutrition news.

I’ve broken out a few trends to offer my thoughts and considerations (as an RD) to keep in mind when reading about the next wellness buzz.

Matcha Green Tea

Like many superfoods before it, matcha green tea is enjoying time in the spotlight as a nutrition darling. With claims from greater weight loss and fat metabolism to improved blood pressure and cancer prevention, it is easy to see why this tea is gaining popularity.

Matcha is different than bagged green tea for several reasons, but the most obvious being its powdered form. This gives a richer flavor and provides matcha lattes a pleasing, bright green hue. It has earned its superfood status through a potent source of catechins, which are a type of polyphenols and provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

While research is limited, we do know polyphenols are beneficial for health in a variety of ways. This may not mean in relation to some of the more dramatic claims, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt any of us to include more antioxidants into our diets. Of course, it’s important to remember these studies come from pure forms of matcha, so sweetened versions or adding the tea to high-calorie drinks or desserts will be counterproductive for any type of weight loss goal. Look for unsweetened matcha powders and be sure to steer clear of added syrups or flavorings when ordering your next matcha latte.

Brigit Hart Fotografie

Turmeric + Collagen

Recently, supplements like turmeric and collagen have received attention, noting anti-inflammatory properties and anti-aging abilities, respectively. While inflammation and aging is a topic we can all agree are worthy of attention, these supplements may not provide the benefits promised.

In general, supplements are unregulated products, meaning their claims may or may not be valid. My take? Stick with real food.

Turmeric does have anti-inflammatory properties, but research is not clear enough to state the supplemental form is more effective. Instead, try adding the spice while cooking to reap the benefits while adding color and flavor to your meal. As for collagen supplements, it’s difficult to assess whether consuming the protein in supplement form boosts anti-aging properties, or if it is due to a healthy lifestyle, adequate hydration and plenty of anti-inflammatory foods (turmeric and beyond). In addition, like all proteins, collagen is broken down into individual amino acids when digested, and therefore is not absorbed as the whole protein, meaning it does not reach skin in its original form.

Annmarie Swift Photography

Sprouted Grains

Sprouted grains have been around for a while, but recently gained popularity thanks to sprouted breads and snacks. These grains differ than their unsprouted counterparts as they have been soaked and allowed to germinate. Luckily, if sprouted, you know the grain is a whole grain due to the inability to sprout a refined grain. Claims include easier digestions and improved absorption of nutrients, along with increased levels of B vitamins, vitamin C, fiber and folate.

Sprouted grains may also be beneficial as they are usually lower in calories than other grain products. For example, a slice of whole grain bread is usually around 100 calories, while a slice of whole grain sprouted bread generally runs around 60 calories. The calorie savings, added nutrition and easier absorption makes sprouted grain products a healthy choice.

Look for sprouted grains in cereals, English muffins, bagels, or even pizza crusts. Just be sure to keep portions in check and balance out your meals with plenty of non-starchy vegetables and lean protein, too.

4 Reasons to Let Your Groom Plan the Honeymoon

Invitations, flowers, and escort cards. OH MY! Feeling overwhelmed? We totally get it. Planning a wedding is no easy task. But after the wedding comes the well-deserved honeymoon. And what better way to start your marriage than with a romantic trip planned oh-so-perfectly—just like your big day.

Read on to see why handing over honeymoon duty to your husband-to-be might just be the best idea you’ve ever had…

Karena Dixon Photography

He Wants a Task Too
If you’re the kind of bride who is hands-on, doing-it-all-yourself, let your groom take care of something equally as important. “While Liz welcomed my opinion on anything, there wasn’t anything else where I was really taking the lead on planning,” said newly-married Rob DuCharme. “Taking care of the honeymoon and all of the planning felt like a good way to be directly involved in something during the process.” Bottom line, your groom will appreciate being tasked with something meaningful.

The Opportunity for Surprise
Don’t forget that the honeymoon is really a way to kick off your marriage—and yes, that means starry-eyed celebrations are in order. “When the groom plans the honeymoon, he can truly become a romantic,” said Jennifer of VIP Vacations. “Candlelight dinners, scenic wine tastings, rose petal turn down services, champagne on balconies are all little features that can be added.”

Jose Villa Photography

Stress-Free Planning
With everything else you have on your plate, let your hubby-to-be take the reins so you can worry about all those other little wedding-day details. “My wife and her mom did a lot of planning for the wedding, and I wanted everything to be carefree and stress-free as soon as our honeymoon started,” said just-married Benjamin Dalton. “Planning the honeymoon was part thanking her for all the time she put into the wedding and part showing her how special she is to me.”

Try Something New
Whether your hubby-to-be is a seasoned traveler or not, letting him plan the honeymoon might open the door to new and exciting adventures—things you may not have even thought of, like an old museum in Paris, a hot restaurant, or a snorkeling trip to a remote island. And who knows, this new adventure may become an annual tradition you both love—a fun discovery from your first days of marriage.

You’ll Never Guess Who (or What) Photobombed This Couple’s E-Session

Being photobombed by a peacock is not a terrible problem to have. Nor is exploring the beauty of Charleston with the love of your life and an amazing photographer in tow. Nicole Clarey captured this happy duo in and around the hidden gems of Charleston and yes, the peacock makes an appearance in a pic or two. See the full collection here.

From the Photographer… Jessica and Chris are too stinkin’ cute! Obviously. Their adorableness exudes from the photos, but this sweet session almost didn’t happen. We got rained out on our original shoot day, so with some quick rearranging of plans we made it happen the following morning. An 8am start time is a lot to ask for, but it was totally worth it. We had a great time hanging out in Downtown Charleston and around the beautiful grounds of Middleton Place Plantation. As if the beautiful weather wasn’t enough that day, a friendly peacock decided to join in on the fun too! You may find him photobombing a few shots.

Youtube Stars Tie the Knot and It’s Straight Out of a Malibu Fairytale

This celebration is something out of a Malibu fairytale complete with cobblestone courtyards, hedge-lined gardens and a view of the Pacific ocean. And then there’s the Bride and Groom who are not only insanely cute and charismatic but also happen to be youtube stars. Told you it had “happily ever after” written all over it. Take a peak at this pastel infused beauty designed by So Happi Together and all captured by Sally Pinera.

From the Event Designer… Heart and Arnold are not only the sweetest people you have ever met – but they may be the most happily in love couple we have had the pleasure to work with. The way that they interact is filled with giggles, inside jokes, finishing of each other’s sentences and above all, respect. You can tell that they genuinely love and respect each other’s opinion and company. This probably comes in handy since they are both YouTube lifestyle bloggers and Influencers – so they spend a ton of time together creating fun and stylish content for their viewers, leaving little time for planning a wedding!

When they reached out to Nancy of So Happi Together for their wedding planning services, they had already been dating for 10 years, engaged for 2 and while they didn’t have a set date or venue, they knew they wanted to officially get married within the next 3-4 months since winter (their most favorite time of year) was quickly approaching and they dreamed of a cozy, intimate and festive celebration for their wedding day. They wanted their wedding to be something they could look forward to after the fun of the holiday season was over – to make the magic last a little longer into the new year!

This young, hip couple was actually pretty traditional when it came to their wedding design. They had a few ideas for colors and knew that they wanted a California beachy-vibe, but otherwise left the design and styling largely up to their planner, which always makes for a fun and productive planning process! Their main desire was to keep their family involved and serve them good food, drinks and music at a private estate where everyone would feel comfortable and loved.

We achieved this by producing their wedding at the Stone Manor in Malibu. Their immediate family and close friends were able to stay at the gorgeous estate with them for the entire weekend, which started with a casual rehearsal and welcome dinner, held indoors (due to some light showers, which didn’t dampen the couple’s high spirits) and ended with curling up by the fireplace with late night snacks after the wedding and an intimate brunch the next morning.

For the actual wedding day, the ceremony was held in the back of the estate on a manicured grassy lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Guests enjoyed the views, along with pre-ceremony appetizers, hot chocolate and champagne. The ceremony, which was officiated by Heart’s sister, was perfectly personal with vows that made guests laugh and cry (zombies were mentioned more than once) and a recessional to Bruno Mars’s “That’s What I Like” that had everyone up and dancing.

A live musician serenaded the guests as they made their way through hedge-lined, cobblestone paths to the cocktail reception in the Stone Manor’s grotto. They were greeted with trays of champagne and signature drinks served in gold-rimmed, vintage glassware from Casa de Perrin and adorned with edible florals. Guests were further spoiled with more delicious food provided by Hungry Bear Catering and a hand roll station set on a beautiful vintage bar provided by Found Rentals.

As the sun set, guests were invited into the venue’s fairytale-like Stone Room where they enjoyed dinner, toasts and a LOT of dancing. The color palette was sweet and romantic and very true to Heart’s style with blush pinks and golds against white marbles and gray driftwoods. Gold and rose gold accents were incorporated with the flatware, custom laser-cut names by Letters to You and Aether Workshop, and lanterns and floral vessels that housed lush arrangements designed by by Heavenly Blooms. Against the gray stone of the room and the luxe feel of their velvet table linens (by La Tavola linen) the design was equally inviting and luxurious.

Sneaky Swaps for 8 Items On Your Wedding Budget

It’s no secret that if you aren’t careful, you can rack up a major wedding bill before you say “I Do.” You can have the day of your dreams without sacrificing piles of cash if you make a few smart, sneaky choices. Here are a few easy swaps for line items in your wedding budget that will leave you with a little extra cash (perfect for your honeymoon fund)!

Josh Gruetzmacher Photography

Champagne Toast
Swap budget Prosecco for expensive champagne for your toast. Most people will be a bit tipsy already and not notice the difference!

Jewelry
Swap cubic zirconia earrings for real diamond studs. Literally, nobody will notice—your ears aren’t something people are going to be admiring on your wedding day when there’s so much else to look at (hello, gorgeous dress).

Flowers
Swap peonies for hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are a great floral for bouquets because they’re relatively inexpensive, and similar to peonies, their rounded shape will fill out your bouquet nicely. Peonies, on the other hand, tend to cost a pretty penny.

Shoes
Swap designer footwear for budget heels. Again, nobody’s going to be looking at the bottom of your feet to see if the sole is red—many brands have heels that are just as beautiful for a fraction of the price. They’re going to be kicked off come 9 p.m. anyway!

Cake
Swap the cake for cupcakes. A large, ornate wedding cake will run you hundreds of dollars, and guests will enjoy cupcakes just as much! It also eliminates the “cake-cutting fee” that many caterers charge. Dying for that Instagram-worthy cake? Have a small one-tier cake created and then hide a sheet cake in the back for guests to eat.

Paper goods
Swap the program for a cute wooden or chalkboard sign. Most guests will barely glance at the program and then toss it after the ceremony—a sign makes for great pictures and tells everyone the order of events without killing as many trees or costing you as much at the printer.

Rentals
Swap smaller tables for larger ones. Fewer tables mean fewer centerpieces, linens, and even small things like table numbers.

Favors
Swap favors for late-night snacks. Favors are another thing that very few guests appreciate or even take home. Instead, have late-night pizza or doughnuts for them to munch on before saying goodbye. Late-night snacks soak up the alcohol and are an instant crowd-pleaser, and they don’t usually break the bank too badly, especially when compared with a personalized shot glass, koozie or magnet per guest, many of which will be left on tables.

Modern Americana Wedding Inspiration

What is not to love about this styled modern Americana wedding shoot, photographed by Emily March? Drawing their color palette and vibe from the local Independence festivities in Sonoma, this team of amazing vendors gave red, white, and blue a California cool twist by introducing copper accents, driftwood chargers, and indigo linens. Feeling inspired? Then head to the Vault for more!

Most couples planning a destination wedding in Sonoma are drawn by the world-class wines and breathtaking vineyard backdrops. If they dig a little deeper into the heart of town (or experience just one Independence Day parade – Sonoma’s favorite holiday!), they’ll soon discover the rich culture and vintage charm of this historic locale, not to mention a world of fresh wedding inspiration.

Playing on the red, white, and blues of Sonoma’s beloved Independence Day festivities, we created a timely nod to history with a Modern Americana theme in a palette of indigo, ivory, and copper. Set at the Maysonnave House, an intimate garden venue and cottage built in 1910 just a stones throw from the plaza, we let Sonoma’s heritage provide the roots of our story, while our team of vendors made it current with avant-garde details.

Encore Events Rentals’ copper bistro chairs and flatware glowed against the matte finishes of the place settings and the mali block print indigo table linen. The driftwood chargers referenced the California coastline, just an hour drive from Sonoma, while the minimalist dinnerware from Encore and modern cake stands from Cake Bloom’s newly launched collaboration with local ceramicist, Amanda Wright, offered the perfect juxtaposition of old and new.

In keeping with the theme, Petal Atelier added modern, sculptural details to complement the historic setting with a floral ceremony installation of locally-grown olive leaf, spiral eucalyptus, bay laurel, and delphiniums. Lush arrangements in ivories and blues contrasted our model’s fiery locks, and intricate textural styling using foraged succulents and air plants for Cake Bloom’s wedding cakes made them the focal point of the table.

The stationery suite from Bow and Arrow featured hand-lettered indigo watercolor invites and menus accented with a metallic copper script. In true Sonoma style, a witty chalkboard sign from Vine Country Signs invited guests to try some of its finest on the front porch overlooking the garden because, vineyards or not, this is still wine country, and wine was always part of the story.

Gold + Black Modern Wedding With Geometric Details

When Becky and Aaron began planning their Denver wedding, they wanted a day that truly represented their unique styles. One part modern and one part romantic, they mixed trendy geometric details with organic florals and pretty neutral bridesmaid gowns for a juxtaposition that totally worked. Rachel Havel photographed this lesson in risk-taking style and we think it’s one of the coolest galleries to ever cross our desks.

From Rachel HavelThey say opposites attract, and in Becky and Aaron’s case, that couldn’t be more accurate. Mountain man meets city girl and they fall in love. When Aaron tried his luck with online dating, little did he know that his first online date would be his last? Just a few dates in and Aaron knew he was going to marry Becky. As their relationship has evolved, they’ve both enjoyed getting a taste of each other’s worlds and adventuring in life together. They planned their city wedding for the Spring, where bold shapes and gold & black were met with natural garland & florals. It was the perfect juxtaposition of who this couple is.

A Painted Blue Floral Wedding Gown Adds a Touch of Whimsy

Let’s take a second to appreciate the painted blue floral beauty that is the wedding gown by Kate McDonald Bridal. Between that dress, the colorful and seasonal arrangements by Hana Floral Design, and the mermaid-esque Bridesmaid with her teal gown and romantic braid, we’re crushing hard on this wedding inspiration shoot captured by Maggie Conley Photography. See it all in the gallery!

The pastoral grounds of Mount Hope Farm provided the quintessential New England backdrop for our romantic, spring editorial shoot. This was our prelude to the spring wedding season! Mount Hope Farm has such beautiful, bucolic grounds – even their own set of sweet farm animals! And the weather was a perfect spring day!

We wanted to evoke a feeling of an English countryside but with a casual elegance we find so often of our Brides here in the Northeast. Beth Chapman of the White Dress by the Shore chose a beautiful, painted blue floral dress created by Kate McDonald Bridal. It was a stunning new nod to the neutral palette that is still trending today. Lynda Williams Beauty complemented the look with classic makeup and long locks on our model. The Bridesmaid wore a gorgeous marine green gown with her hair in a fun braid.

The table setting was a collaboration between Russell Morin, Exquisite Events Decor, and Hana Floral Design. We used a whitewashed farmhouse table, regency chairs, and a settee for two. Exquisite Events Decor framed the barn with sweeping white draping as well as a crystal chandelier. Classic gold rimmed chargers, clear stemware, and gold flatware were offset with accents of vintage floral china from Yumiko Fletcher’s (of Hana Floral Design) personal collection. Hana Floral Design created a lush floral tablescape using seasonal flowers with punches of coral, orange, peach, and pale blue. Peonies, sweet pea, fritillaria, hybrid delphinium, muscari, ranunculus, and french tulips were the focal flowers used throughout the centerpieces as well as in the bouquets. The invitation suite mimicked the dress with a floral envelope liner and sweet illustrations of the barn. All of it was captured so eloquently by the amazing Maggie Conley Photography.

A Summertime Staple for Effortless Cocktailing

Summertime was just made for margarita sipping. There’s no question. But instead of slaving away behind the bar at your next shindig, set up this super cute and insanely easy approach to cocktailing. Elizabeth van Lierde is sharing her quick tips for crafting a Margarita Station. I have a feeling, it’s going to be the most popular corner of the party.

From Elizabeth van Lierde… Want to know my number one trick to kicking off a great party? Have your friends make their own drinks! A DIY cocktail bar can be a fantastic way to open up the evening and the best part? It gives you a chance to get all those last minute things together without having to fill everyones glass. Follow below to grab my best tips for putting your own marg bar together for your next gathering!

Set the scene

Grab a bar cart or a simple table from your home that you can repurpose. For this we used my normal bar cart and added in a yellow side table from my patio. Chances are, you already have everything you need to create a “bar” at home! Before setting any party up I always layout what I have from my own crazy closet before I go out and buy everything I think I “need” at Target!

Texture and Color: Think table runners, throw rugs, and textiles. For this we used a patterned rug, a strand of papel picado, and fun baskets and crates. This makes the whole area look super inviting! It’s also a great conversation starter to get your guests moving and mingling a little.

Fowers are never a bad idea!: We added a decorative floral element by purchasing, then emptying (you can save the food in a separate container, or serve it at your party!) and cleaning cans of Mexican food like El Pato Salsa, and repurposing them as vases, with succulents and bright flowers. My go to entertaining decor is always always always fresh flowers! They are inexpensive and always add a pop to any decor.

Fresh Fruit: Lemons, limes, and grapefruit, oh my! Don’t be shy on the citrus. This is a marg bar after all. Cut up tons of citrus fruits for garnish, and don’t forget the salt!

Grab some juice: Make it easy on yourself and grab some pre-made juice. There are tons of organic and fresh options now. For the basics go with grapefruit, lime, and maybe a fruity lemonade if you have kids coming over. Throw them in your best pitchers or mason jars for a fun arrangement.

Did someone say tequila?!: A standard margarita has tequila and some kind of orange liqueur. Stock up on gold and silver tequila and opt for some Cointreau or Grand Marnier! To help your guests along, print out a recipe that you love for some guidance!

A Fort Myers Wedding With French Country Style

“Utterly romantic” doesn’t even begin to describe this Florida lovefest. Designed by Elleson Events with a French Country feel, it infuses a sea of neutrals with effortless elegance and too many beautiful moments to count. Hunter Ryan Photo captured behind the lens and you can start pinning your favorite details right over here.

From the event planner… On a beautiful November afternoon, officiated by the groom’s grandfather, Marlene and John said their vows surrounded by copious greenery.

Although a large wedding (160 guests), Johna and Marlene hosted what felt like an intimate European inspired affair beneath a canopy of trees in the semi-secluded Horse Creek community park.

John and Marlene love spending time outdoors, and their wedding reflected that. Organic, timeless details – from the soft green and creamy white invitations to the garden style peony bouquets, every detail had a romantic, soft, ethereal quality that also exuded effortless elegance.

Above the family-style tables hung greenery garland and glass globes that offered the perfect late night romantic twinkle.

The menu included meat and cheese boards, fruits, nuts, dips, and wine, as well as delectable dessert delights. Perfect for nibbling and grazing, while enjoying the canopy of shade offered by the park’s trees.
