Gold + Lucite + Green = Wedding Dreams.

If you’re looking to inject a bit of modern romance into your upcoming celebration, here you go. The ultimate wedding inspiration dreamed up by CCL Weddings And Events that you’ll want to share with your vendors pronto. From the lucite invitation, to the skyline ceremony, Ruth Eileen Photography has captured it all to share and we’ve got it waiting for you in The Vault!

From CCL Weddings And EventsWith a view of a skyline like this, the W Loft in Brooklyn is a minimalist space that naturally captures the beauty of New York amidst the hustle and bustle. For this styled shoot we featured elements such as marble, plexiglass and gold accents to represent the classic, modern bride who loves timeless styling and contemporary elements.

We wanted the reception table to be more than a table with a linen so we teamed up with Taylor Creative for their glass tabletop. Their leather benches and plexiglass armchairs were stunning with the table! Marble accents and gold dinnerware graced the furniture from Taylor Creative, while Wild Floral Designs brought life to the shoot by incorporating loosely gathered palm leaves into the florals. They also created an impeccable arch that was intentionally not connected to truly accent and frame the skyline behind the ceremony altar. Along with the leather benches used for seating and plexiglass boxes filled with fauna, the ceremony space was designed to have a clean look because the couple and the cityscape would be the signature touch to the overall look of the wedding. The model wore a jaw dropping gown from Sarah Seven, embodying nothing short of elegance. Sugar Couture designed and created a stylish marble cake to match the theme of the shoot. Small Paper Co designed a stunning invitation suite produced by Aether Workshop with an acrylic invitation and a gold mirrored backing. Any wedding event wouldn’t be complete without “his” and “hers” cocktails with custom cocktail stirrers designed and created by Letters to You that read “bottoms up” and “l’chaim.” Our team could not have created such a spectacular shoot without the help of all the talented vendors who made it all possible!

This Brooklyn Wedding is the Definition of Chic

This is one duo that knows how to throw a party.  In fact, when it came time to plan their Big Day, celebrating with good food, tasty cocktails and a whole lot of dancing was tops on their list of priorities. The result? A simply chic, fun-filled soiree that was as personal as it was pretty. Fall in love with every moment captured by Weddings by Two in THE VAULT right this way.

From the Bride and Groom… Our vision was simple, we wanted to have great food (Lukas was a chef and is now a butcher), open bar and music that our guests could dance to all night.  We ultimately just wanted everyone (including ourselves) to have an amazing time. Since the Green Building was gorgeous to begin with, we were lucky that the place came alive with the addition of just a few lights.

We didn’t use a specific color palette. We only wanted our flowers to be seasonal with tons of color. Since we chose not to have a wedding party, we did not have to think of our bridesmaids or groomsmen’s outfits matching anything.

It was important for us to use the courtyard and have the ceremony outside. It was dream weather, flanked by rain the day before and the day after. We were really lucky. Leah used Pinterest ideas to incorporate photos in unique places throughout. We placed family photos inside old shutters. We also wanted Leah’s grandmother and Lukas’ grandfather, who are no longer with us, to somehow be remembered. We had photos of them on a special table with a note. Additionally, our photo booth was completely DIY, complete with props and selfie sticks.

We loved the Ketubah signing ceremony because it was a unique, private part that close family could be a part of.  We also loved dancing with friends and family (especially to Whitney Houston during our first dance).

Each table had a unique arrangement of flowers. We provided different size vases and mason jars to our florist, Sprout Home, so they could incorporate potted plants and succulents. It was stunning. Leah’s gown was from BHLDN. For the ceremony Leah wore a beaded topper (also from BHLDN) and took that off for the reception. The dress was simple but totally Leah’s style. Lukas’ suit was from Suit Supply, and he wanted something unique and colorful. He wanted a vest so he could take off the jacket when dancing but still look somewhat formal. We chose to have pies and cannoli’s for dessert (the whole thing was catered by Pies N Thighs), two dessert items that we love! Leah’s friend created a groom’s cake for Lukas with a Warrior’s theme because he is from Oakland and a huge fan. Our favors were homemade soaps (made by us) using rendered lamb fat from Lukas’ butcher shop. Don’t worry — they smelled of lavender.

Our main advice to couples planning their wedding would be to plan as much as you can, as early as you can, because things always come up last minute. Put trust in others (family, planner, photographer, caterer, florist) to do their job/task so you don’t have to do everything. Make sure you do what YOU want — its you and your husband’s wedding, no one else’s.

A NYC Engagement Session that Will Make You Believe in Magic

April showers lead to May flowers, and in the case of this gorgeous engagement session from Rebecca Yale Photography, that couldn’t be more true. After a rainy morning in Brooklyn with their sweet pup, Mochi, Dustin and Dina headed to the cherry blossoms of Manhattan for a shower of pretty pink petals. Experience all the magic now in The Vault!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyNew York City has been having a very rainy Spring, but Dina and Dustin didn’t let grey skies get in their way and hit the streets of their favorite neighborhood, Williamsburg, with umbrella in hand for some portraits with their adorable pup, Mochi. After a coffee stop at one of the bride’s favorite local haunts, Devocion, we headed into the city to catch the last of the cherry blossoms as the cascaded around them in the rain for a truly magical moment.

From The Bride…Our story begins three years ago as a serendipitous encounter where a Brooklyn girl meets a Dallas boy at the right place at the right time. On the night we met, we happened to be at the same bar; I went for a friend’s birthday and Dustin went for his. As he tells it, everything was in slow motion. He says that as the crowd parted, there I was laughing. Though finding love was far from my mind, this was unknowingly the start of our story.

Over the course of several months, we became long-distance friends. That friendship led us to attend a wedding together for his childhood friend. Coincidentally, the groom was from Dallas and the bride was from New York, who also happened to meet at the same bar as us. Either this was a sign or maybe it was the liquid courage, but I made the first move and kissed him. After that night, our long distance friendship became a long distance relationship. Long distance is not for the faint of heart, but when it’s real, it’s worth the work. 18 months later, and after countless flights, late-night calls, FaceTime, and hellos and goodbyes, he proposed last May where we first said “I love you.” Dustin was so nervous, he forgot to take the ring out of the box and just handed me the box instead. So he had to get back down on one knee, and try again.

Last spring, I came across Rebecca Yale’s Instagram and fell in love with her work, especially her utterly romantic pictures with the cherry blossoms. I knew I wanted to reach out to her and began to follow her, even before getting engaged. We had to wait a year for the cherry blossoms to return, and Rebecca made it so worth the wait.

A DIY Brooklyn Wedding Guaranteed to Make You Smile

If you’re dreaming of a wedding full of that quintessential Brooklyn charm, there’s no place quite like 501 Union, and no one to capture it quite like Readyluck. So, you’re in for quite the treat with this DIY Brooklyn day full of industrial glam details and a whole lot of love. See it all now in The Vault!

From The Bride…I’m not one who dreamed of my wedding since grade school, so when it came time to plan, I thought I was a chill bride open to anything. Turns out I am actually a carbon copy of Sally from When Harry Met Sally: the high-maintenance pain who swears she’s low maintenance. I discovered I had all sorts of opinions about what I didn’t want—no mason jars, no colorful back lighting, no bodacious sculptures in ice—and few about what I did.

Because my fiancé Rick and I had a relatively short engagement (10 months), we were under the gun to make some fast decisions. Happily, the venue was an easy one. Gowanus’ 501 Union, just a short walk from our apartment, had an aesthetic we loved: industrial glam, cool metallic wallpaper, and the flexibility to skew vintage or modern. It really helped to pick a place with point of view, as blank-slate venue intimidated me.

I wasn’t really a fan of traditional fall colors (oranges, browns, deep greens, etc.) so a seasonal palette didn’t appeal. We initially thought we wanted gray tones with a pop of violet, because our wonderful letterpress invitations from Brooklyn’s Papel had oyster-colored print and a purple foil edge. Finding the perfect shades of gray was tough, so three months before our wedding I was totally stymied. Luckily in NYC there are so many pros who can pull something together on a dime. I hired event designer Ashley Chamblin to help refine a design plan that I could execute myself. Because Rick and I enjoyed traveling, we made that a motif, rather than a main theme that hit you over the head. Ashley also helped me settle on blush/neutrals for bridesmaid dresses, a color that suited everyone. Being a bridesmaid is a thankless job, so I kept the bridal party small so we could afford to buy everyone a dress that they would wear again. Any style was fine with me as long as it fit the color palette.

Aside from the flowers and table setting, I sourced or created most of the décor on my own. I dragged my family to flea markets in rural Ohio to find old suitcases, travel books, and vintage postcards so guests could write well wishes on them in lieu of a traditional guest book. Planning a New York wedding, you quickly get used to taking every high-end estimate and doubling it, so looking outside the tri-state area for these details helped cut costs. We also tried to use what we had. Rather than buy a welcome sign, we placed my mint-colored bike in front of 501 Union with a hand-tied bouquet to signal where the party was.

To commemorate our separate journeys and the adventures that brought Rick and I together, we sprinkled photos of us traveling with friends and family throughout the venue. Ashley suggested clipping some onto a twinkling star garland, an idea I loved, but I was determined not to have the traditional 5-point star shape (this was a wedding, not a kids birthday party). Finding the perfect burst-style garland on Etsy was a challenge but worth the hunt. When you’re DIYing, it’s easy to drown in these kinds of details. I found myself up to 2:30 am the nights before the wedding ironing our custom logo onto welcome bags or spending way too many hours scouring eBay looking for the perfect vintage toy plane. I eventually relented and rented a few tabletop travel items from Octavia & Brown, along with some great mercury glass vases. When everything came together, I think the overall effect was us—a little hodge-podge, but fun and personal.

The dress shopping process defied my expectations. We looked at several lovely boutiques in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but all the styles I thought I’d like ended up looking like window drapery on me. Despite my trepidation, we ended up at Kleinfeld at my mother-in-law’s suggestion. Yeah, it’s sort of a factory, but the fact is they have a very deep bench. I happened to get a wonderful consultant, who brought me Jayne by English designer Eliza Jane Howell. It had an elegance that my late Anglophile grandmother would have loved, plus intricate beading and sparkle I couldn’t take my eyes off of. Sold!

As the dress was a splurge, I economized on the other details of my look. I settled on some Badgley Mischka shoes with embellishments on the back that wouldn’t compete with my dress. Because I was wearing my paternal grandmother’s engagement ring and great grandmother’s stole, I finished it off some inexpensive, low-key jewelry from Nordstrom. (By the way, I can’t say enough good things about that place for noncommittal brides. They have an amazing return policy and if there are any problems with shipments they’ll overnight you new ones.)

Flowers were one of last things to be decided. I’d worked with Lilli of Mimosa Floral, and for a variety of factors out of our control, (e.g., I got food poisoning a few weeks before the wedding), our plan wasn’t finalized until the week before the wedding. That would give most girls a coronary but I trusted her talent and it came together beautifully. We decided on ivory florals alongside greenery, with pops of coral and blush. The stunning asymmetrical chuppah with jasmine vine was one my favorite touches, and I loved how Lilli juxtaposed more romantic garden roses and anemones with protea and and air plant in my bouquet. I tried to keep the table setting fairly modern and clean, with mercury glass votives and a nubby textured gray tablecloth with a little sheen to it—less Vegas, more grandma’s silver.

I’m a firm believer that no one wants to take home favors emblazoned with the bride and groom’s name or likeness. So Rick put his excellent negotiation skills to work and cut a deal to get some cool travel kits from Flight 001 at a discount for our favors. We also created some custom leather luggage tags embossed with an adventure-themed quote and used them as place cards.

Cake was a surprisingly low priority on the list. We adorned it simply with a few flowers, as the main event was the dessert truck. The beauty of our venue was that you can pull a food truck inside the garden, so we had CoolHaus serve ice cream sandwiches, which were a huge hit. Sadly, I didn’t have any because I was too busy dancing. But you can have ice cream any old day—you can’t always geek out on the dance floor with your very favorite people.

If you’re doing the hard work of DIY-ing details, make sure they’re executed exactly as you envision at the venue. In retrospect I wish I’d hired Ashley as my planner and design-focused coordinator. You will run out of time to triple-check everything the day-of, and your bridesmaids will likely be occupied helping you with other last minute details. Having someone who can advocate for your style is important. When I tried to move a piece of décor that was in the wrong spot an hour before the ceremony, I actually had one person argue that the bride told her she wanted it in that place. I was like, Um, I’m wearing a sparkly white dress—I think that makes me the bride! Crazy stuff like this happens; I also forgot to wear my veil, and the venue didn’t have a printer so I read my vows off my phone (klassy!). You just have to roll with it.

I also implore all couples to take photos before the ceremony. Not only does it let you enjoy cocktail hour with your guests (and why would you want to miss your own party?!), but also it gives you some one-on-one time with your partner you won’t have at any other point. I didn’t even realize how stressed I was from planning until I saw Rick’s teary, smiling face at the first look and felt such relief. Being with him prior to the wedding wiped away all my pent-up anxiety and put my focus back on us. He had rented a fabulous 1953 Rolls Royce that spirited us away to Red Hook for photos by the water and in front of some awesome old factories and street art. We were lucky that our photographer, Edward Winter of READYLUCK, knew all the right spots and whisked us around to the most perfect backdrops.

Which brings me to my last tip: Find vendors who put you at ease. Wedding planning is far too nerve-racking to waste time or money on people who don’t have your back. Eddie was a super-huge win on that point. He didn’t just create amazing shots. He constantly ran interference, gently herding family members into the right spots, even sticking up for the bridal party when the limo driver refused to turn down the A/C for my freezing ladies.

Favorite moment? Too many to choose! Definitely at the altar when it all became “real”—I was finally teaming up with my very favorite person on earth. Having Rick’s four kids there to support us meant everything, especially witnessing his oldest deliver a heartfelt speech and his youngest walk our tux-clad pup Luca down the aisle. I also loved that turning point when the formalities of the evening evolved into a massive dance party/family reunion, just exactly as I’d hoped!

How the Editor-in-Chief of InStyle Says “I Do”

There’s no denying Ariel Foxman, Editor-in-Chief of InStyle and his love Brandon Cardet-Hernandez, New York City public school principal know how to throw a good party. But when we’re talking about their wedding designed in the hands of Fête, it’s a party taken to a whole new level. The grooms opted for a dark, moody palette with unexpected details, including a wall of peel-off escort cards and a bagel and schmear send-off for guests. Brian Dorsey captured all the images and we’re only just getting started.

From The Grooms… The inspiration was a winter wedding that would feel lush and “undone” and have deep botanicals. Also, the we used ideas from the Dries Van Noten show, which referenced Dutch masters with gold, black, red and purples.

Jung Lee’s design is stand out because she and her team at FETE manage to epitomize your personal taste—the idiosyncratic things you’ve always imagined for your big day, the little flourishes that only you and your partner find amusing and delightful—while at the same time incorporating and elevating it to a standard of elegance and luxury like no other. And even as the final product is the height of sophistication, the appeal is contemporary, approachable and fun!

Our favorite part of the day—besides exchanging our vows to one another—was seeing how each and every detail came to life. Whether it was the peel-off escort card wall or the personalized chargers at everyone’s seat or the bagel and schmear send off with our charitable donation sticker affixed to each bag. Seeing the attention to every element and knowing that our guests experienced our day in exact balance that we had imagined, was simply amazing.

From the designers, Fête

Seating Concept

As guests entered cocktails, they saw a wall application stating “Find Your Name” – it was scored into small rectangular pieces that served as guests’ escort card. Fete team helped guests peel their rectangular “escort card” off the wall. As guests peeled the card off, it became apparent that there was some image or painting underneath the application. By the end of cocktails, guests could finally make out the painting, which was an enlarged print of a watercolor painting an artist friend made for Ariel and Brandon.

During the planning process, Jung came up with the idea when the couple shared the painting with Jung – she knew it needed to be featured at the wedding, especially given the venue.

Curved Carpeted Aisle

The curved shape of the ceremony space inspired the idea for a curved, carpeted aisle. It increased the drama and beauty of the ceremony as a friend and recording artist sang her love ballad “With You”. Listen to it and it will become one of your favorite processional songs ever.

This Brooklyn Wedding Proves the Ceremony Can Be Just as Great as the Reception

Yes, the reception is the celebration, but the ceremony is what unites you as husband and wife. So, reading this Bride’s note that “the ceremony was the most memorable part of the wedding.” With a dear friend officiating, the ceremony brought every guest in Brooklyn Winery to tears, laughter and cheers. From there, the night only got better with Designs by Ahn florals, a Sweet Booths photo booth and a sparkler exit. See it all from Meg Miller Photography and Rob Adams Films in The Vault!

From The Bride….After finally settling back to reality from the absolutely unexpected proposal from James, the vision of our wedding was clear from the start – an unconventional and personal event that mimics a fun night out in the city where we fell in love and grew together as a couple. Brooklyn Winery suited this purpose – the space was the perfect combination of vintage and modern, casual but elegant filled with reclaimed wood creating a romantic, chic, and sophisticated interior unfolding within the industrial exterior. As a fully functional winery, the venue set the stage for the perfect night that intimately engaged our loving friends and family.

As we planned the rest of our wedding, we focused on creating a personal and inclusive experience, a conversational celebration for all so the guests were part of our story from the start. The wedding logo was one of the small but key elements that runs the theme throughout – a claddagh ring encircling a Chinese character “double happiness” to represent the joining of our families from different cultural backgrounds. To echo the rustic style of the venue, we wrapped each invitation in burlap with a twine tie; and to personalize, we tied a small wooden tag with a personally written message to each of our guests. The wedding logo was also featured on our table cards, photo-booth prints, and place cards. Each place card was placed in frames that we displayed on two 7-foot tall, custom made wooden standing shelves that was personally made by James’ father! The design was the perfect paring to Brooklyn Winery.

The ceremony was the most memorable part of the wedding. We asked our dear friend Laura Ahern to officiate our ceremony. As someone who introduced us and witnessed our relationship from the start, there was no one more appropriate and perfect than Laura to help tell our story. Laura gave us more than we could ever have hoped for. She delivered with a combination of quick wit and a big heart that kept the mood light and entertaining, bringing our story to life, filling the room with energy and laughter. Our own vows, which made for some very emotional moments, brought the crowd to tears, laughter, and cheers. It was perfect; and it made us so happy having been told by many that it was the best ceremony ever experienced and shared!

The rest of the night was truly blissful…a candlelit family style dinner with Matt La Von’s Jazz Quintet providing the perfect background music for a meal that any NYC foodie can appreciate. Later, everyone danced to the amazing music by DJ Chavez with the floor packed to the brim all night.

From the first look, the ceremony, the speeches, to the first dances and the epic dance party, the talented teams from Meg Miller Photography and Rob Adams Films beautifully captured every moment. They blended in seamlessly into the background while managing to be close enough to capture some of our most intimate moments. Meg and Rob’s teams were an absolute joy to work with and we can’t imagine anyone else we’d want in charge of capturing our memories.

From the beginning, it was very important to us to have a modern, unique, and intimate experience on our wedding day. As each chapter unfolds, it was the most joyful, beautiful day we could have ever hoped for and more.

See Why We Love This Completely Non-Traditional NYC Wedding

When the floral designer behind Maiden Kind became a bride, she and her love knew a city celebration was in order. But rather than elope, they chose the next best thing – a wedding inspired by an intimate dinner party. They scaled down the guest list, reined in the details and focused on the love, plain and simple. D’Arcy Benincosa captured each and every moment you’ll adore, epic first look included.

From The Bride…When Nick and I got engaged, we knew immediately that we wanted our wedding to air on the smaller side. Intimacy felt really important to us and we wanted to be able to really focus on one another. We also knew that a New York City location was a must, since we met in our East Village apartment building and consider NYC our home. We began planning a 75 person wedding which we thought was small wedding. But we found ourselves quickly loosing sight of what was important to us- each other. It became too much about the details and making everything perfect. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a big wedding and all of its details- I’m a wedding florist after all! But when it came down to planning my own wedding, I realized it just wasn’t for me. After considering eloping, we came to the conclusion that it was absolutely essential to be surrounded and witnessed by our immediate families. An intimate dinner party was in order.

The Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn had always been my dream venue. But with our original 75 people, their ballroom would have been too large. But in the end it worked perfectly! We rented one of their suites overlooking the Manhattan skyline for our ceremony and dinner. It was truly the best location and setup. The Wythe was incredible to work with and it really felt like a wedding…Just a tiny one! Plus their wine selection and menus were amazing.

Since we didn’t have a bridal party, we didn’t really think too much about color palette too much. We drew slightly from the environment, as we knew there would be the Wythe’s signature blue and white toile wallpaper, hopefully a sunset over Manhattan and lots of brick!  We bought Nick’s suit first and wanted it to be something that he’d wear countless times. We chose a blue suit with very subtle pinstripe. I also felt that since our wedding was going to be intimate, I would want to be comfortable and non-fuss. I actually didn’t spend too much time on dress hunting. I went to J.Crew and then spotted my Rosa Clara in a magazine and went on a mission to find it.  It had the sophisticated, urban appeal that I was after and I didn’t have to worry about extra tricep presses since it had long sleeves! For jewelry I wore my mother’s gold locket that she actually wore on her wedding day. It houses a baby picture of me and my sister. So that felt really special. If I have a daughter someday, I hope she’s want to wear something of mine on her wedding day. I also carried my grandmother’s handkerchief with me. It was beautiful and absolutely essential.

My mom, mother-in-law and sister helped me do the florals and it was truly the most fun!! We didn’t have a palette in mind when we arrived at the flower market. But we ended up choosing colors that mirrored my Mociun engagement ring. Everyone always asks, “did you find it stressful to be the bride and the florist?!” It wasn’t stressful…But that’s probably because I wasn’t flowering for a full-sized wedding! If that were the case, I would have hired out!

One thing we did splurge on were photos. Photography is really important to both of us and we wanted someone to capture the emotional aspects of our day. D’Arcy Benincosa was a perfect match for us and we were so glad we flew her out from Utah for our day. She also shot our engagement photos, they are fabulous!

My favorite part of our wedding was the ring warming ceremony during our ceremony. We played a beautiful piece of music by Andrew Bird and our rings were passed amongst our family members. They each held our rings for a moment while they infused them with love and well wishes for our future. It was so moving, I highly recommend it if you’re thinking about a small wedding.

We didn’t offer traditional favors. But we did bring gifts for our parents. As a way to thank them for getting us to this point in our lives. Nick and I were both born in 1985 and I’ve travelled to The Loire Valley in France with my family, so we gifted them each of bottle of 1985 Chinon. They loved the thoughtful gesture…And the wine too.

We were on the fence about having a wedding cake,as we hadn’t seen anything that really spoke to us. We would have been satisfied with desserts from the Wythe. But I’m sure glad we opted for cake because it was one of the most fun things we planned! I honestly don’t remember exactly how this came about…but at the time I was “internet pals” with the incredible food blogger Molly Yeh – who is known for her cakes with marzipan cutouts. We got to chatting about her coaching me to bake my own wedding cake and it turned out that she was actually in town a few weeks before our wedding. So I chose her recipe for chocolate tahini cake with tahini buttercream frosting and I baked the layers before she arrived. Then we assembled and decorated it together in my Brooklyn kitchen. Well, she did most of the decorating while I tried to soak up as much cake knowledge as possible. I am obsessed with pigs, and if I was ever going to have a wedding cake it would have to feature two piggies in love (dream cake)! Plus, it added a really playful element to our evening!

See the Cutest (Furry) Ring Bearer Who Walked Down the Aisle

Pup lovers rejoice because this fur baby turned ring bearer is the cutest thing you’ll see all day. Mabelle, the couple’s shar-pei carried the rings down the aisle and took this Brooklyn wedding to a new level of fun. Sophie Kawalek captured and we’re hanging out here in the gallery.

From Sophie Kawalek PhotographyFrom the minute I met Rachel & Patrick, I knew their wedding was going to be amazing. Both artists, they set out to create an event filled with gorgeous sunlight, an incredible ceremony + reception space in the heart of Brooklyn, and whimsical yet modern details – including a vintage-inspired Sue Wong dress and fresh greenery by Pamela Cravens throughout the event.

Rachel and Patrick planned the entire thing themselves, hand selecting each vendor to compliment their unique day. It was filled with touches of intimacy, as the couple read each other handwritten love letters during their first look, heard speeches from multiple close friends, and had the bride’s brother walk their shar-pei, Mabelle, down the aisle to deliver their wedding rings.

Everything was inspired by a lush and modern palette of white, classic navy, and fresh green – from the stunning vintage-inspired emerald velvet bridesmaids dresses to the eucalyptus and bay leaf garlands running the length of each dining table, to the bouquets – primarily greenery, with soft white flowers.

The ceremony was led by Patrick’s childhood reverend, who had traveled from Savannah, Georgia, to be part of the event. Interspersed with singing and guitar played by one of the groom’s close friends, it was filled with light and emotion as the couple exchanged beautiful custom rings and read short vows.

Rachel, a bride of Chinese descent, changed twice from her elegant white dress to something more traditional and spent her reception in two stunning red and gold cheongsams that her mother helped select for the big day. The night ended with cake decorated with rows of fresh blossoms by The Movable Feast and dancing for family & friends.

Bow down Brooklyn: This Stylish Bride Wore Tom Ford

What happens when you combine the chicest Bride ever with a wedding at the Brooklyn Winery? Major allure. Starting with that show-stopper of a gown (I mean, hello velvet neckline!) to the speckled purple orchid bouquet (total perfection), we’ve got Brindamour Photography to thank for this stunner of a celebration. See it all in The Vault!

From Brindamour PhotographyI’m so excited to share this Brooklyn Winery wedding. Badr and Michèle are dream clients, the sort I literally write about in a notebook when at a photography workshop and am instructed to describe my dream client. They are calm and totally relaxed, they trusted me every step of the way, their families were so sweet and kind to me all night, and on top of all that, they are gorgeous and have great style. Michèle wore a stunning Tom Ford gown with a beautiful velvet neckline and carried a speckled purple orchid bouquet designed by Gabrielle Aronas of G! Designs. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into their wedding day! XOXO

Elegant Prospect Park Boathouse Wedding with a Sweet Tribute

My favorite part of this Brooklyn wedding isn’t the Groom’s kilt, the Bride’s gorgeous spring bouquet, the great music from Colin Watson  or even the stationery designed by the couple. Don’t get me wrong, I love all those details, but the sweet duo’s tribute to their families and ancestors—complete with a gallery wall of old family photos—definitely takes the proverbial (wedding) cake. See all the special moments from Levi Stolove Photography in The Vault!

From Levi Stolove PhotographyThey met long ago at a beer garden on The High-Line. When they thought of their wedding, they wanted a relaxed, fun, cozy party. The Prospect Park Boathouse is a perfect fit for them. It is a beautiful space along a the lake and still close to home. They are both creatives, Jamie by avocation-and by day she is a lawyer and Chris is an architect. They designed their own invitation, save the date and table name cards. They named each table after a family ancestor and included the history of that family member with an old photo. In this way they could bring all their family together, even the long ago ancestors. Chris being Scottish decided to wear a kilt and Jamie’s father wanting to embrace Chris’s background hired a bag pipe player that surprised the couple during the father of the bride speech.

Event Venue

From the Bride… A week after Pablo and I got engaged, we went on an amazing trip around the world, or what we call our “engagementmoon,” visiting eight countries in three weeks. Once we arrived in Paris, it only felt natural for us to check the first thing off our wedding to-do list and buy matching wedding shoes with those iconic red Louboutin heels. Looking back on it now, I realize that matching one element to another in our wedding became a consistent theme of planning. Doing so made wedding planning that much more fun and effortless, much like finding connecting pieces to a puzzle.

Pablo and I both knew we wanted to keep our wedding close to our home, friends, and family in New York City. After some brief web surfing, I came across 501 Union in Brooklyn, and immediately upon viewing pictures, I knew in my heart that this was the perfect place for us. A week later, we signed for the venue at first sight. Having a background in art, in my eyes, the modern feel of the venue, the black and white walls, and the chic art deco wallpapers provided the ultimate canvas to host any type of wedding.

We set our date for late September, and while fall in New York is beautiful, our summers seemingly feel shorter every year. Trying to extend summer a little longer, we decided on a romantic theme with pink and metallic colors, dreamy tulle, and plenty of pink flowers to lighten up and contrast the venue. The weather on our wedding day ended up amazing, so it actually felt like a perfect summer day.

My family owns a bakery called the Runcible Spoon Bakery, and after receiving a degree in art, I decided to take my artistic talents and apply them to the family business. Over the years, while learning to manage the business and to bake, I also taught myself how to decorate cakes. It quickly became obvious that I would make my own wedding cake. Eventually, I also decided to cater all of the desserts for our wedding by creating an entire dessert bar. I must admit, baking hundreds of macarons, cake pops, and hand decorated cookies, on top of making a wedding cake and planning a wedding, was truly a labor of love.

Our entire day was magical – everything went exactly the way we had envisioned and hoped for the year leading up to it. The saddest part of the day was when it was all over. All of the planning, stressing, and, in my case, baking was so worth it in the end. After the day just flew by and our guests were leaving, I remember turning to Pablo and saying, “Aw – let’s do that again.” It was a good thing we planned an after party!

When it came to picking vendors, we were blessed to have found a team with a creative vision that we could place all our trust in to capture our day. Pablo and I still constantly find ourselves looking through our wedding photos or re-watching our video, because even though the day has gone, those pictures and video still live on and remind us of the best day of our lives – the end of our beginning.

Fashion Editor’s Fabulous Same-Sex Brooklyn Wedding with a Custom Christian Siriano Gown

Four words: Custom Christian Siriano gown. I mean, based on that fact alone we’d say Nicolette Mason of Marie Claire had the most amazing wedding ever. The best part? The beauty doesn’t end there. We’re talking about the chicest celebration Brooklyn has ever seen. From the sweet pup, to Laura Hooper Calligraphy accents, to skyline kisses, Clean Plate Pictures captured it all for us to pin. See it all in The Vault!

From Clean Plate PicturesWhen Nicolette approached me to photograph her wedding at the Wythe Hotel I was over the moon. I met Nicolette years ago and from following her fashion blog I knew she has an amazing sense of style and that her and Ali’s special day was not only going to be filled with love and laughter, but also immaculately detailed. And they did not disappoint! From the adorable ring boxes stamped with the couple’s initials and customized temporary tattoos, to the personalized wood carved place settings, there were so many fun details to capture! Even their sweet little pug, Frankie, was dressed up for the occasion. The touching ceremony was followed by an adorable first dance and raucous hora, after which I was able to get some magical sunset portraits in front of the New York skyline. I especially loved photographing Nicolette twirling in her stunning custom Christian Siriano dress. Then, it was back down stairs for heartfelt speeches, delicious cake and more dancing! It was truly a perfect day for such a beautiful couple. Wishing them so much love and happiness for many many years!

From the Bride, Nicolette MasonWhat Ali and I envisioned was really, really close to what we ended up sharing with our friends and family. We wanted an intimate ceremony and reception with lots of bespoke details that made everything from start to finish extra special and beautiful. We prioritized FUN over everything, and spent a lot of time with our DJ, Amber Valentine, and our band, Postmodern Jukebox, on creating an atmosphere that had everyone dancing from start to finish. While we also looked at a lot of venues, we kept coming back to the Wythe Hotel. It’s been a place that we’ve visited countless times together, and even celebrated our engagement with friends at their rooftop bar, The Ides, on the day we got engaged. The space is so beautiful and reflected our home in Brooklyn, with an industrial-chic vibe, exposed brick, and flashes of brass and gold. We loved the high ceilings of their ballroom, and the open feel of their courtyard. We worked with a lighting designer to bring in additional string lights to make the entire room sparkle. We also used one of their penthouse lofts, on the 8th floor, for getting ready, taking portraits, and signing our Ketubah (Jewish marriage license). The room is beautiful, and I loved that we could look onto the New York City skyline while prepping for our wedding. The entire thing felt so true to us and like it was such a reflection of our relationship and the marriage we wanted to create together!

We knew from the day that we got engaged that we wanted to have a spring wedding, and that had a huge role in influencing the color palette and overall aesthetic – especially since most of our favorite flowers are only in season during the spring and summer! We went with a theme of blush pink, sage green, champagne and gold – and that was infused in all the details, from the stemware to our paper suit designed by Ladyfingers Letterpress to what we wore. Ali’s suit was custom made by Bindle & Keep and had a pink lining, and she wore a pink Ferragamo tie that my dad gave her as a gift. I wore a blush pink custom gown designed by Christian Siriano, which had rose gold appliqué and crystals throughout, and a custom clutch given to me by Edie Parker, which was inscribed with “N&A” in champagne and gold lucite. Virtually every detail came back to our original color palette and inspiration – even the tassel background we DIYed for our photobooth.

Virtually everything felt customized and special – and I loved that! I have a design background and work as an editor in fashion now, so it was really a labor of love to spearhead those elements of the wedding (while Ali handled more of the logistical, organizational details – she’s the queen of spreadsheets).

We were really, really excited to work on our favors – they were all personalized and felt really special. I’m sort of obsessed with place settings, and I wanted to create something really bespoke for everyone. I found Laura Hooper Calligraphy and she makes these beautiful laser cut wood nameplates; each place setting had its own nameplate which was painted gold, and it was a nice detail which everyone could take home. Then we also worked with Hartland Brooklyn, a local letterpress and design studio, to create a sheet of tattoos that were special to us; after all, we’re two Brooklyn queers with a handful of ink of our own, and it felt like a fun thing to do – so they designed a temporary tattoo pack with illustrations of our pug Frankie, tuxedo cat Lily, and pretty florals that were in our arrangements. They were so cute and by the end of the night there were a lot of pug and peony neck tattoos on our friends. Finally, we also made custom rose soy-based candles and matchboxes for everyone to take home; our florals had an amazing fragrance that filled the space, and I loved the thought of people being able to take that scent with them – especially for family who traveled far to join us at our wedding! It was definitely one of my favorite details to conceptualize!

But really – we thought about nearly every detail. We had Laura Hooper Calligraphy create a custom cake topper, as well, and we had cocktail napkins made. We even made a small welcome bag for our family that came in from out of town, again with a tote designed by Laura Hooper Calligraphy, and filled it with little New York items – a Zagat guide (an essential for visitors, obviously), Grady’s Cold Brew Coffee, Mast Brothers Chocolate… It was so fun to think of things like that.

Being a same-sex couple, I think the most special feeling was having so much love, support, and happiness around us – and that is not something I take for granted. The love in the room was palpable, without compromise, and heartwarming. It was really incredible to feel that from all our friends and family – grandparents included!

We worked with our favorite floral studio in our neighborhood, Sprout Home , to create our dream florals. They did the most amazing job – and Kalena, one of their designers, has got to be one of the sweetest and most patient people I’ve ever met. We wanted to feature peonies, garden roses, and succulents (an ode to my mother’s garden in California), and have really full, gorgeous arrangements fill the space. We had three arrangements on each rectangular table – one large, taller arrangement and two smaller arrangements. They were so beautiful and I wished we could have made them last an eternity. Sprout Home also designed the florals to cover our Chuppah – which then made their way onto mine and Ali’s sweetheart table. I absolutely loved my bouquet, too! We wrapped it in this beautiful blush pink, velvet ribbon which looked so gorgeous. Can you tell the flowers were one of my favorite parts?

Christian Siriano is one of my closest friends, so there was no question that once Ali and I were engaged, he would be the one working on my wedding dress. I came into his studio with lots of inspiration and a general idea of what I wanted to do look like for our wedding, but I mostly entrusted Christian to put his talents to work and create something beautiful. It was definitely a privilege to work with a designer who already knows my sense of style and my personality – and he absolutely created my dream gown! The gown was layered in hand dyed blush pink tulle, and covered in rose gold roses and crystal appliqué. I had full, sheer sleeves so it looked like the crystals and roses were sitting right on my skin – it was so much fun to wear that I refused to take it off – even at our after party when we went bowling across the street at Brooklyn Bowl.

Our cake was made by The Wythe in-house pastry chef, and it was an earl-grey saffron cake with vanilla buttercream. I have celiac’s disease, so unfortunately I couldn’t eat it, but I’m told that it was the best wedding cake ever. My family is Persian and English, so I loved the idea of mixing flavors from both cultures into the cake. We also had an assortment of fruit, flourless cake, petit fours – but the cake was so beautiful, and we covered it with flowers from Sprout (a cascading mix of garden roses and peonies), and topped it with a laser-cut wood topper created by Laura Hooper Calligraphy. I’m pretty sure I’m going to request a special gluten-free version of the cake to celebrate our anniversary!! Overall, The Wythe in-house catering was incredible. We’ve been to and loved many of their sister restaurants, and definitely prioritized good food when finally selecting our venue (I mean, let’s be honest- wedding food is mostly mediocre at best), and I can confidently say the food at our wedding was incredible. We worked with their chefs to create special dishes that paid tribute to our heritage and cultured – a spring salad with smoked trout for Ali’s Russian, Jewish heritage, and lots of saffron, dill, and harissa to celebrate my middle eastern background.

This may seem really controversial, but…. LAY OFF PINTEREST! I know, I know – Pinterest can be an amazing resource for finding inspiration, DIY ideas, and creating a mood board to share with your vendors, but overall it just made me feel like there were all these extra, superfluous things that I needed to have or do that…. we really didn’t need at all. We tried to stay focused on things we actually really did need and want – great music, great food, and fun details to keep everyone entertained (our Photo Booth was a big winner), and create an event where everyone was happy and celebrating — and I really think we pulled it off!

It was really important to us to work with vendors who were either women or LGBT owned. The wedding industry is enormous but we wanted to work specifically with talent from our own community, who shared our values.

Our photographer, Erica Beckman of Clean Plate Pictures, was a friend-of-friends for many years who we have shared community with. She made us feel so comfortable and at ease, and really stayed on top of everything throughout the day of our wedding to make sure all our special moments were captured – and the photos themselves are stunning and so magical. Photography was definitely something we prioritized in our budget and I think it’s a really, really worthy expense. It’s true that the day goes by so quickly, and being able to trust a photographer to capture everything as its happening (much of which you won’t even realize happened until you’re looking at your photos later) is so special and priceless.

We also worked with a queer-owned letter press studio, Ladyfingers Letterpress, to create all of the papers for our wedding and day-of materials. They were a couple who shared so many of our pre-wedding experiences and anxieties, and actually formed their business after dealing with frustrations in planning their own wedding! I loved, LOVED working with them and they are SO talented.

Our DJ, Amber Valentine, is a longtime friend who also throws some of the best queer parties in NYC. She was able to customize the music and remix things to suit our party needs, she even incorporated some Persian music that my family requested!

Our day of planner, Jove Meyer Events, was also gay and helped us find a LGBT Rabbi to officiate, too! It may seem like a little thing, but after meeting with and speaking to tons of vendors who made us feel uncomfortable, who didn’t speak our language (“so which one of you is the bride?” Um, we both are!), we wanted to work with people who would go out of their way to make the entire wedding process feel like it was inclusive and about us, and that was invaluable. Plus, being able to support women and LGBT owned businesses added a bit of social consciousness to our wedding planning process!

Moody + Romantic Brooklyn Warehouse Wedding

Looking for the chic, modern place to be? Head over to Brooklyn where bashes go all night and Brides like this shine bright. Lindsay Hite of Readyluck got the invite to capture every moment of this warehouse wedding and lucky for us, her pics are in our VAULT, from the NYC views to Bella Grafia’s pretty calligraphy topped off with one amazing sparkler; your Pinterest boards will thank us later!

From the Bride… I was definitely not the girl who had my entire wedding dreamed up by age 15, so I was pretty lax on the planning, which drove my poor Mother crazy! Luckily, I managed to choose some of the most amazing vendors who made sure our day was as special and memorable as possible. From Jeffrey Torem at Liberty Warehouse, who is incredibly professional and patient, to Lindsay Hite of READYLUCK who took the most gorgeous photographs and has the absolute best laid-back vibe, to Lidia at Mark Ingram who helped me find the most insanely gorgeous Marchesa gown that I typically would never have dreamed of wearing, to the guys of The Bailsmen who helped make part of my wedding night feel as though we were in a Woody Allen film, to the absolute best DJ ever, DJ Neza, who had everyone (including the Bride and Groom) dancing all night….

We never knew that we could have so much fun at our own wedding! Seriously. We were warned by others, “You don’t have as much fun at your own wedding as you do when you’re a guest.” Don’t listen to these people! We had one of the best nights of our lives.

The day started off brilliantly. We woke up and the summer sun was shining so bright and beautifully. We chose The Liberty Warehouse as our venue because it has this incredibly cool industrial feel that we loved. It also has this incredible terrace right on the water that looks out onto the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan. I was convinced that there was no way I was going to get married outside though, because open waters = lots of wind! But after waking up and walking outside to literally perfect weather, I knew we had no other choice.

We got married to each other against an absolutely beautiful setting sun. The ceremony was purposefully personal and filled with our own words to each other. We laughed a lot and cried a lot. Kissed. And said “we do.” It was amazing.

The reception wasn’t too bad either. The food was delicious, music was perfection, and lucky for us we got married on “National Tequila Day,” so everyone literally had the best time ever. I danced my makeup off and my hair down. If it were up to me I wouldn’t have cut the cake at my own wedding because I was too busy on the dance floor! Good thing there are professionals around who make sure to drag you off for all the important photo-ops!

My advice to brides-to-be is hire good professionals, and make sure to have fun.

Romantic Art Deco Wedding at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

A vintage-inspired love fest awash in beautiful jewel tones is sort of my happy place.  Especially when that aforementioned love fest is sprinkled with DIY craftiness and some of the most beautiful details you will ever lay your eyes upon.  Think lush + romantic florals from Denise Fasanello, a stunning Reem Acra gown and an entire world of breathtaking images from Brian Dorsey Studios.  Head to THE VAULT for every moment, then press play on the film from Lux Photos below for even more pretty.

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/VWx_9OJzRng 600 338]

From Brian Dorsey Studios… Scott proposed to Marianna on their couch, after some take-out Chinese food, while watching Mrs. Doubtfire on December 21st, 2012. Sounds like a pretty ordinary evening, but our groom set the tone of creativity for this entire wedding by popping the question on the night of the (predicted) Mayan Apocalypse. “Til the end of time,” right?

We absolutely loved this couple and their wedding which was largely DIY thanks to Marianna’s Interior Design degree. The luxe, Art Deco vibe of the day was inspired largely by our bride’s 1920’s Estate ring that came from a Vintage Boutique in Cape May, NJ. The bride herself did the graphic design of most of her stationery to match that vintage theme, with help from Elle New York.

Born in Brooklyn (but a Jersey Girl thereafter), Marianna wanted to center her whole wedding around her roots, so she hired the brilliant and Brooklyn-Based Denise Fasanello to add bold, jewel-toned hues of floral throughout her entire event – which was held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a venue we love shooting at – and a venue her guests described as “magical.” (We’d have to agree.)

There’s something so decisive about this bride’s personality – she just knows what she wants, and from there the wedding was seamlessly executed. After meeting the team at Brian Dorsey Studios, she cancelled all of her other appointments and booked us on the spot… Same goes for her Reem Acra gown, which was the first dress she tried on – and her venue, the only one she even viewed in person. It’s hard to believe a wedding so stylized was done in such an easy, fun, and lighthearted way! And that’s why we at BDS feel Marianna’s wedding deserves some kudos.

Our feature bride’s favorite moment was her “First Look ” with Scott, which she had been anticipating the whole day up until she finally was able to see him in person. “If I could tell future brides/couples one thing… it would be that when you know you’re marrying ‘The One’ – nothing else – no small hiccup can possibly ruin that day, so do your best to be stress free. Get excited. Enjoy it. It goes by so fast.”

… And it did, but not without a ton of laughter and some awesome photos to show for it!

Modern Brooklyn Winery Winter Wedding

It may have been one of the chilliest days of the year but that didn’t stop these two from throwing one chic celebration and warming our hearts. From the beautiful gown from Lovely Bride to some of my fav getting ready pics at the Wythe Hotel, Ashley Caroline and Cullen Studio captured every second as these New Yorkers said “I do” at Brooklyn Winery. Get all cozy with our pics in the VAULT right this way!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/145062920 600 338]

From the Bride… “New York, New York so good they named it twice” is a quote that hangs on the gallery wall in our living room and embodies everything we wanted for our wedding. New York City is the place we met, fell in love, and built a life together, so what better place to have all our favorite people join us to celebrate the beginning of our next chapter as husband and wife!

Having a winter wedding wasn’t something we originally planned for, or even thought of, but it turned out to be exactly what we wanted the weekend to be – all about our guests celebrating with us! With family and friends traveling from all over the country (and world!) New York City was the perfect international hub that allowed easy access for everyone and endless possibilities for places to stay and things to do. Using the Riley & Grey wedding website platform allowed for guests to RSVP online and find all our our weekend information in one place.

What we wanted more than anything was to spend time with our guests and for guests to feel like they were a part of our weekend and not just another number on the list. We hosted a welcome dinner the night before, the main event, a casual after party, and the day following the wedding we rented out a laid back neighborhood bar for everyone to gather and swap stories over pizza and brunch cocktails.

Guesterly books allowed us to “introduce” the guests to each other by sharing a photo, their connection to the bride and groom, where they were from, and a fun fact about each and every one. Many guests told us later that they carried them around all weekend and would make connections or speak to people they saw in “the book” that they may have never met without it.

When we decided to have a New York City winter wedding, the venue was the first decision we made. We searched for a venue that could host the ceremony and reception to cut down on transitions and everyone having to bundle up and go back out in the cold.

Once we discovered the Brooklyn Winery, we immediately loved the vibe of the space and set up a time to check it out. Their Director of Sales, Rachel, gave us a tour and broke down how the event would run; every detail she shared seemed to be better than the last! She understood our vision and made us feel that this was the place for us. They took care of everything from the food, to bar, to table settings, and candles which made the logistics of the day so much easier.

The space itself has so much character so keeping it simple with the flowers and decor was the way to go. With the addition of striped table runners, white florals, and an abundance of candlelight, the venue felt welcoming and romantic. The string lights that we chose were the perfect touch on a dark winter night.

Photography was the most important thing to me and I wanted to find someone who could capture us as a couple as well as all the small, in-between moments of the day. Some photographers looked too formal, some too predictable, but when I came across Ashley Caroline, her work blew me away. Andy loved that the couple’s looked comfortable and that she focused on using natural light as much as possible. The images are so special because they live on after that one day in our lives and bring us back to so many happy moments. Ashley’s calm demeanor and personable approach made the day go incredibly smoothly even when it ended up being the coldest February 20th in NYC history and we had to stay inside for all the photos! Luckily the incredible floor to ceiling windows at the Wythe allowed for the beautiful light to pour in and accommodate 25+ people and even our dog.

Since I did not want a strapless dress, my selections were more limited. The staff at Lovely allowed me to browse their selections and choose a variety of styles. I fell in love with Rosa Clara’s designs because of the intricate beading and attention to detail. The low back balanced the high neckline and it was unlike any dress I had seen before.

I am so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life who also happen to be in the business of weddings. From my sorority sister who helped design our invitations and personalized logo that we used throughout the weekend, to my friends from high school who each have Etsy stores of their own for welcome bags and chalkboard signs, to a childhood friend who brought our floral vision to life! Working with friends made the day that much more special and memorable. Our videographer filmed two of my best friend’s wedding earlier in the year, so I knew he was going to capture the day perfectly and he didn’t let us down!

When discussing how we wanted the day to be, Andy and I kept coming back to the idea of a unique experience for our guests with our family and friends at the heart of it. We had a small bridal party with just our siblings and important children in our lives. My uncle and friend sang an amazing rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” while we walked down the aisle and our guests sipped cocktails in their seats. We wrote each guest a personalized note that served as their place card sharing memories and the reception was free of long speeches with only my parents and me and Andy saying a few short words of thanks. We wanted it to be a fun, unforgettable party celebrating the beginning of our married life together.

Chic Fall Wedding in Brooklyn

There’s just something about Brooklyn that feels so effortlessly cool, so it came as no surprise that this native New Yorker (who happens to be on team SMP!) chose it as the location for her autumn wedding. They chose September 11th and in the bride words, “I decided we should celebrate our love with the support of our friends and family in a step toward honoring the gift of life and reclaiming that date.” It’s a beautiful sentiment with a beautiful wedding to match, and you can see more from Emma McDonald Weddings in THE VAULT.

From the Bride, Lucy… Since Shaun and I were friends before we started dating, we wanted our wedding to be very relaxed, and a ton of fun! As Brooklyn residents, we chose to get married in Williamsburg at an old-school Italian venue with stunning views. Our anniversary happened to fall on September 11th, and as a Native New Yorker I decided we should celebrate our love with the support of our friends and family in a step toward honoring the gift of life and reclaiming that date.

With Shaun from England and Scotland, he opted for a kilt of his family’s tartan in a nod to his heritage. I surprised him with “The Final Countdown” (an inside joke) on bagpipes and he nearly lost it before I walked down the aisle! With the flowers and decor, I wanted to set a “wonderland” whimsical feel against the glamorous backdrop of the skyline to merge our two styles and backgrounds. The night was so magical and we could not have asked for a more beautiful evening.

Fall Wythe Hotel Wedding with Hayley Paige Dress

Who said that jumping on the bed was for kiddos only? Because when you just marry the love of your life, it should be acceptable at any age. This bottled up kind of excitement captured by Rebecca Yale reminds me why I love logging on to this pretty place every day. And when that glee is followed up by a candlelit evening bursting with blooms from Blush Designs and splashed with burgundies and amber hues, well, that’s a good day. See more in THE VAULT!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyAngela and Young were married on a beautiful Fall day in Williamsburg at the Wythe Hotel. The bride and groom both got ready with their friends and family at the hotel and then met downstairs for a very sweet first look followed by portraits around the hotel in Williamsburg. The day was extremely windy, which made for some fun photos with the bride’s beautiful ruffled Hayley Paige dress. The ceremony took place in the hotel’s courtyard under strings of twinkle lights followed by cocktail hour in the lower terrace. The groom, a fitness and nutrition coach, personalized their ceremony and surprised the guests when he had the officiant ask everyone to take a moment to stretch during the ceremony, which was a favorite moment, and one of my favorite photos of the day! After the ceremony the bride and groom went up to their suite to sign the marriage license and took a quick celebratory moment to jump on the bed, another of my favorite moments of the day! The reception took place inside the hotel and the room was transformed by Blush Designs into a lush and romantic fairy-tale space full of deep red tones with gold accents and hundreds of candles, perfect for an evening of dinner and dancing.

Tuscan-Inspired NYC Summer Wedding

Every bit of this beautiful bash was the most wonderful reminder of why I adore weddings. They just got it “right,” ya know what I mean? With Katie Fischer starting off the style with these invites and Chandelier Events leading the charge with all plans, the finished results are nothing short of perfect. Lindsay Madden captured it all, from Rebecca Shepherd’s florals and Hatch Prop Shop’s pretty pieces, to the elegant bridesmaids, a magical cake and more – see it all in our VAULT right this way!

From The Bride…When it came time to plan our wedding, Sam and I found that the most difficult piece of the puzzle was picking the right venue. Finding a space that could host all 280 people on our guest list while maintaining the charming, romantic feel that we were looking for was no easy feat. Just when we were thinking that maybe such a place didn’t exist, we found The Liberty Warehouse, located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The second we stepped into this venue space, we knew that it was where we wanted to get married. It was a perfect fit for us in all respects, but the views of the Statue of Liberty, Verrazano Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, really took our breaths away. Within that Manhattan skyline view was some great scenery from the Financial District, the neighborhood that I have called home for nearly a decade. We loved that The Liberty Warehouse had a nautical yet vibrant urban feel of New York City.

I work as a personal chef, so it was important to both of us that our venue provided top-notch eats, and the kitchen staff at The Liberty Warehouse did not disappoint. I made a point of being very present and in the moment on my wedding day; most brides tell me that they don’t even remember their own special day or even get a chance to eat all of the delicious menu items that they spent months selecting! I made it my business to eat everything I could at my cocktail hour, which was my version of heaven on Earth. I still have guests calling me regularly to tell me how great the food was at our wedding, including the multi-flavored cake from Momofuku.

Our wedding was large, but it still felt very romantic and intimate. Olive branches were in place of tall floral arrangements and our tables were lined with olive oil and rosemary focaccia where the menus were printed on the bread sleeves. I felt that my wedding brought “Tuscany meets New York City” to life, thanks to my wedding planner Amy Shey Jacobs of Chandelier Events and florist Rebecca Shepherd of Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design. As a chef, I’ve spent plenty of time thinking through event logistics, but for this event, I wanted to be able to just relax and I was fortunate to have an incredible wedding planner that I could rely on to take care of everything. I was able to enjoy getting ready with my family and oldest friends until the ceremony and then party the night away with my new HUSBAND.

We wanted to make this wedding feel truly personal. We wrote our own vows and we were married by both a rabbi and a priest. My dad and I sang a first song together as a duet instead of the traditional father-daughter dance. I surprised Sam by singing him two of our favorite love songs in front of all of our guests. The day was absolutely perfect and really showcased us not only as a couple, but the love and warmth that our families and friends have for us was truly present as well.
