A Textural and Carefree Wedding on Maui in Beautiful Sunset Hues

From the mismatched ‘maids to the endless ocean views – today’s Maui celebration is nothing short of paradise. Couture Events planned the entire weekend to perfection, while Teresa Sena Designs adorned their day in romantic garden blooms. See the full gallery captured by Dmitri and Sandra Photography for all the island wedding inspo!

From Dmitri and Sandra Photography… We had the pleasure to meet Sam and her mom at the beginning of the wedding planning stages. As we walked around their venue, they started to mention all the comfortable and inviting areas they wanted to have for their guests and families. This is when we knew their celebration would be one of a kind! A fun and carefree Maui Wedding with their closest friends and family was the way they chose to celebrate their very special day in a place that means a lot to them. Their impeccable style and laid-back personalities stole our hearts.

From Erica of Couture Events Maui… I was so honored to have been chosen as Sam and Brenden’s wedding planner. Sam has some pretty strong ties to Maui, especially the venue they chose, where she grew up playing in the summer months. They wanted a unique experience for guests that was carefree and fun, true to their personalities so naturally, we created a laid-back cocktail reception.

Surf was up that weekend, perfect for Sam’s family of surfers – her family owned a surf apparel company on Maui. Waves crashed in the background of their oceanfront ceremony… it was one of the most perfect Maui days, totally fitting for their wedding.

The food and drinks were exceptional with a unique and unexpected take on local cuisine. A lot of lounge areas were created and different spaces to allow guests to relax and enjoy the views.

As day turned into night, an Island Kings Band, an energetic Oahu-based band, filled their reception space, creating a lively atmosphere for guests to sip, dine and dance the night away as they celebrated Sam and Brenden.

Some words we kept in mind while designing: fun, textural, casual, and carefree.

About the flowers: Sam loves soft and romantic garden flowers. She is also one that loves modern clean looks so we had Teresa Sena create these gorgeous bridesmaids bouquets that were all mono-bloomed in white. I think these were probably my all-time favorite bridesmaids’ bouquets.

Offering lei to friends and family is a traditional greeting in Hawaii. Sam and Brenden had a white orchid lei waiting for each guest on their ceremony chair as a way to say “welcome and mahalo”.

This Classic Seaside Elegance Wedding Was Worth The Wait

This destination Hawaii wedding is as heartfelt as it is filled with stylish inspiration.  Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design made the couple’s 2.5 year wait, after a postponement due to Covid, more than worth it.  From the seaside ceremony to the outdoor tented reception, every inch of this day is dripping with pretty.  Blooms by Dellables are endlessly romantic, and each magical moment is artfully captured in imagery by Dmitri and Sandra Photography.  Head to the full gallery for a closer look at all the fun.

From Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and DesignAnna and Aaron are both Business Managers from BC, Canada. While they had planned their Destination Maui Wedding for March 2020, Covid had other plans for them. A mere 4-days before their wedding was scheduled to take place that year, Hawaii closed it’s doors to incoming travelers and Anna and Aaron were forced to postpone their Wedding. Nearly 2.5 years later, the couple traveled to Maui with their closest family members and friends, and the newest addition to their family, their son, Cohen!

“The favorite part of our Wedding was our Arch–Taryn’s sweet surprise for us, absolutely stunning!” says Anna. “I highly recommend hiring Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design and her team for your big day! We had the most amazing experience!”

“It was really important to me to honor the couple in a sizable way, both literally and figuratively! They had waited too long for this special moment,” says Founder and Principal Planner of Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design, Taryn. “We are blessed to partner with some truly incredible vendors on our Hawaii-based Events. I called Jonas + Tasha, owners of Artisan Event Rentals Maui, before the Wedding and begged them to build me a massive arch for Anna + Aaron. Without question, they immediately agreed! I then purchased a stunning candelabra-style golden chandelier for the middle of the structure, and Dellables Floral Design then pulled out the stops in the arch décor and voila! We had a dream come true!” Following their seaside ceremony, guests were led to a stunning, flowing white sperry tent dripping with tailored chandeliers and a twinkle canopy.

“The couple was committed to classic elegance within a breathtaking, oceanfront space on Maui. We didn’t want to compete with our surroundings, so we worked carefully to bring their vision to life in hues of whites, ivory, golds, and neutrals. The hope was to create luxe, classic elegance,” says Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design.

“We know it is cliché to say every part was our favorite,” say Anna and Aaron, “but it was just because we had waited so long for this day, everything was absolutely perfect! But if we had to say our favorite, it definitely had to be all the sweet speeches that were given to us.”

Dinner and speeches were followed by group games, bouquet, garter tosses, and fun-filled dancing. All in all, it was apparent that this celebration was definitely worth the wait!

Bright and Bold Star Wars Themed Maui Wedding

In a galaxy far, far away… (Maui that is 😉) a beautiful bride married her dream guy! Today’s gorgeous couple met while living on the island and decided it was the perfect place to tie the knot. In sorbet colored hues, tropical blooms by Bella Bloom Floral and subtle nods to the groom’s favorite films – the full gallery by Dmitri & Sandra Photography is jam packed with pin-worthy moments.

From Dmitri & Sandra Photography… Brittney and Matthew met while living on Maui, so what better place to tie the knot! After relocating to Florida and an engagement in 2019 they finally had the wedding of their dreams back on the island that means so much to them.

Brittney’s vision of an outdoor affair where her guests felt like royalty was beautifully produced by Opihi Love Weddings. With a fun color palette of soft sherbet hues, shades of pinks and accenting with touches of black, blue and green, the abundance of flowers delighted guests at every turn. Their lush floral aisle led to a semi circle altar, leaving the ocean and palm trees in the background. The inviting design consisting of textural and natural elements created a botanic, garden-like setting for the couple and their guests.

Incorporating Star Wars (Yes Star Wars!) was a surprise to Matthew from Brittney as he is a huge fan. Keeping with their modern, romantic design, little nods to the movies can be seen throughout their reception. From their signage to light sabers and in the end, star trooper costumes, it all blended in tastefully. We enjoyed capturing the joy, love, and beauty of their wedding day.

From our Bride… My ideal wedding is for our guests to arrive and feel like royalty. I want them to eat and drink like kings, and feel like the VIP guests that they are. I also want to them to have fun, and feel like they can see our personalities both shine through in the small details.

From Opihi Love Wedding & Event DesignWhen Brittney and I starting working on the overall design for her wedding I remember writing down the words, fun, colorful and PARTY. We worked together on adding in little details such as napkins with a different fun print and anemone flowers to tie in the darker color centers with the overall place setting glassware and flatware. Velvet Fox Designs helped to tie in the overall color palette as well with their gorgeous stationary and light wood cane textures which tied in the overall furniture we used throughout the event. The Star Wars theme (a surprise to Matthew) was so fun to incorporate as well through little touches. We went back and forth on gold or clear acrylic chairs but ultimately decided on clear acrylic chairs which I felt was a little more fitting for the theme.

Fresh and Colorful Oceanside Wedding in Maui

If you’re looking for some tropical wedding inspiration – girllll, we’ve got you covered. Helena and Danny’s Lahaina wedding on the beautiful island of Maui is making all our Blue Crush dreams come true. Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design executed their day to perfection while Dellables brought the floral magic. Dive on in to the full gallery of beachy details captured by Ashley Rae Studio!

From Ashley Rae StudioIf ever there was a sign to get married in Hawaii, it was when Helena and Danny went paddle boarding with a guide in Maui whose surf partner was a wedding planner!

After initially having a small wedding at the local courthouse in 2015, it was time for them to have their official wedding celebration and Maui was the spot!

Little did they know, that they would have to wait a little bit longer.

Despite the chaos and confusion with planning a wedding when COVID hit, this couple kept their cool and patiently waited to celebrate.

It might have been a 6 years since their first nuptials and more than a year from their original 2020 date, but Danny and Helena were finally able to celebrate their love in paradise. The wait was worth it!

Sunshine Inspired Maui Wedding

Love radiates like the sun at this bright and beautiful Maui wedding.  Ning and Zach worked with Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design to plan and design a day filled with a warm citrus color palette and an abundance of style.  From the oceanfront ceremony arch to the alfresco reception, romantic blooms by Dellables help bring our couple’s love story to life.  You can feel the joy shining through in the imagery by Dmitri & Sandra Photography, say ‘aloha’ to all the fun in the full gallery.

From Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design… Ning and Zach wanted an elegant and romantic oceanside Wedding on Maui. In choosing a private home on the Pacific, they were able to entertain their guests beneath hues of butter yellow and soft coral while hearing the waves crash along the shore. They wanted to honor their family traditions with both Chinese and Jewish nods, so they had their ceremony spoken partly in Mandarin and broke glass as is the Jewish tradition.

The most special part of their event surrounded the pre-wedding traffic, of all things! Just a couple of hours prior to the ceremony, there was a road blockage on the only road leading to the venue. While Ning had arrived early for pre-wedding photos, Zach was not scheduled to be there until shortly prior to the ceremony starting. Instead of leaving his beautiful bride-to-be waiting, Zach and his Dad hopped out of their rental car in the middle of the road and began the 2-mile trek to the wedding venue dressed in full suits in the warm Maui sunshine! They were honked at and applauded by other people waiting in the traffic, hopped a fence, journeyed through a cow pasture, and made it to the waiting Bride. Ning and Zach then enjoyed their first look, some pre-wedding cocktails, and some alone time prior to the rest of their guests arriving an hour late due to the blockade! If that doesn’t spell dedication, I don’t know what does!

From the couple… Ning is originally from Shanghai, China. She grew up just outside of the downtown area and came to the US at 21 for grad school. She went to Berkeley to study computer science for her PhD. After that, she moved to LA where she worked at Snap. Now she is an entrepreneur working on artificial intelligence. Zach is from the bay area and went to LA for College. He worked in a variety of business jobs in entertainment before eventually working for Google. We met online and had our first date at a coffee shop, Intelligentsia, in Venice CA. We’ve since recreated the date at least a few times each year! We always wanted a smaller fun wedding. From the beginning, we knew we wanted a destination wedding. We chose Maui as it’s our favorite Hawaiian island, and we really love it in Hawaii. It’s so relaxing, calm, and fun. We always have a great time, whether standup paddleboarding or just dunking in the water.

A Romantic Tropical Fête at the Montage Kapalua Bay

Aloha Hawai’i! It’s the dead of winter, we’re all craving the warmth of Spring and a tropical Hawaiian vacation is just the medicine we need. Allow today’s Montage Kapalua Bay wedding to be your dose of Vitamin D – surrounded by salty ocean views, sun-soaked corners and sprawling palms. Teresa Sena Designs brought the vibrant tropical vibes of the island to the floral decor, while Moana Belle Events brought modern luxury to the day leaving no detail unturned. See the full gallery for all the island-style inspo, captured by Dmitri & Sandra Photography!

A romantic cliffside ceremony, flowers in a mixture of textures and colors and stunning ocean views, Andie and Kris’ wedding was a gorgeous Hawaiian celebration filled with palm trees, warm tradewinds and so much love. For Andie and Kris, it was all about soft, fresh flowers, a tropical, airy vibe and most of all, an epic celebration by the sea with their family and friends who were more than happy to travel to the beautiful island of Maui after a year of lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Moana Belle Events created an incredibly elegant yet decidedly tropical fete that exuded the trademark modern luxury feel that tthe Montage Kapalua Bay is famous for. The beautiful wedding decor was thoughtfully planned out and represented their years of love together as a couple. From the bold tropical flowers that adorned their ceremony arch to the extravagant flower installations under the sailcloth tent, there were so many details to love about this design.

From Moana Belle… “For an added “wow” factor, we wanted to create an installation that allowed for the typical atmosphere to be brought into the dining tent. We were inspired by the lush palm trees that can be found throughout the Montage Resort and decided to create an installation that mimicked the palms, creating faux palm canopies on the wooden poles of the Sperry tent to add gorgeous focal points above the dining tables and dance floor.

Over the dance floor, to create that tropical lush vibe, we suspended globe lighting from the faux palm canopy to create a moody and tropical atmosphere for the dancing portion of the evening, which was a big point of importance for Andie and Kris.”

Let’s Get Maui’d! Check Out This Vibrant and Elegant Wedding At Montage Kapalua Bay

Will you Maui me? The wedding of Anh and Josh was effortlessly steeped in natural beauty, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery and romantic atmosphere that Hawaii boasts. Inspired by the sunset hues and the deep blue color of the Pacific Ocean, the couple carefully worked with Moana Belle Events and Mandy Grace Designs to create a day with a matching color palette. One thing is for sure — we just can’t help but swoon over that whimsical circular arch, channeling unity and infinity. Dmitri & Sandra Photography captured each and every beautiful moment of this tropical love story, so head to the full gallery to get swept away.

From Moana EventsOnce Anh and Josh made the decision to get married in Hawaii, they knew what they wanted from the very beginning. They envisioned a special celebration with their closest and dearest on the island of Maui where they could enjoy the atmosphere, ocean breeze and beautiful sunset.

The beauty of the island lured them in and it was actual sunset hues and the colors of the deep blue surrounding ocean that inspired the color palate for the wedding. Soft colors of apricot, buttery yellows, peaches and creams paired with an ocean blue was a perfect color palate for our backdrop. Anh and Josh exchanged vows at the Montage Kapalua Bay featuring stunning ocean views, pristine lawns and dramatic cliffs as their backdrop.

An impressive circular ring arch adorned with whimsical florals in the color story of the day created by Mandy Grace Designs framed the couple during the ceremony. The cocktail and dinner reception took place at Merriman’s Kapalua Restaurant which was just a short stroll on the ocean boardwalk across the bay. Both from Austin Texas, they made sure to include their Texas charm in all of their wedding signage like a welcome sign that read “Aloha Y’all”.

Anh and Josh also incorporated several personalized details in their stationery and menus including cute illustrations of themselves on their invitations, and their sweet pups on their cocktail napkins.

Guests enjoyed shrimp cocktail and fresh oysters on the half shell during the cocktail hour while sipping on custom champagne popsicle cocktails.

Here’s Why Maui Is the Ultimate Elopement Destination

The island breeze, the inspiring culture, and those can’t-be-beat views. I mean, let’s be real… when it comes to elopement destinations – the Hawaiian islands take the cake. Need proof? Check out the full gallery captured by Dmitri and Sandra Photography from today’s gorgeous Maui elopement planned by Taryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and Design. Trust us, it won’t take long ’till you’re convinced ;)

The story:

Loreal and John intimate celebration on Maui is the perfect blueprint for a luxury getaway with just a few of your closest friends and family members. This lovely couple said I do in front of the Pacific Ocean, at the gorgeous Sheraton Maui Resort in Kaanapali. The talented team of Platinum Weddings and Events, styled and planned their intimate gathering to perfection. After their beautiful ceremony, Loreal and John joined Dmitri and Sandra on an Adventure Photo Session in different Maui iconic locations, followed by dinner with their friends and family. They wanted wedding photos that showed Maui’s raw beauty, and they did … They scored a perfect Maui day with light trade winds blowing, and plenty of sunshine.

FromTaryn Stark Wyant Event Planning and DesignLoreal and John dreamed of an intimate yet elegant Maui wedding, an event that would be both simple but at the same time have a definite wow factor. They envisioned saying their I Dos with the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean behind them, on the romantic island of Maui, but didn’t want to actually be on the beach with their toes in the sand.

Instead, they decided on the stunning and secluded Ka’anapali Point on the property of The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa as their Maui Wedding Venue. Choosing this venue allowed the couple the privacy that they desired while also providing amazing ocean views Taryn Wyant was the Lead Planner on this gorgeous Maui wedding and designed a lavish ceremony in shades of greenery and white, clear acrylic chiavari chairs were set for guest seating and elegant acrylic calligraphy was placed for signage. The overall look and feel of their intimate elopement was decidedly elegant, graceful and provided the exact look that the bride and groom had in mind. Teresa Sena Designs created the focal point of their ceremony, a luxurious wedding arch covered in white floral decor and touches of greenery. Everyone in attendance commented on the breathtaking decor, and most importantly, the bride shared that it was everything that she imagined and more.

This VoluSpa Candle Inspired Their Signature Scent for This Couple’s Hawaiian Wedding Weekend

From beginning to end, this tropical Maui wedding weekend planned by Couture Events is filled with rich traditions and thoughtful details. The bride and groom decided to celebrate their unique cultures, Italian and Filipino, throughout their day with meaningful touches – like delicious cold brew upon guest’s arrival and an all-Italian dinner menu. Mandy Grace Designs brought the tropical Hawaiian vibes to the floral design perfectly while Dmitri and Sandra Photography captured every can’t-miss moment. Head on over to the full gallery to see all the inspo!

From Eric Goldsmith, Couture Events… Veronica and Andrew flew across the country to celebrate their wedding with about 80 of their closest friends and family. This east coast couple (from Massachusetts) thought of every little detail for their guests. It was nice to work with a couple that was so thoughtful with their guest’s experience in mind every step of the way.

Scent

We thought, why not create an entire experience for them, keeping all five senses in mind?! Their signature wedding scent was VoluSpa’s Mokara and a candle was given to every guest in their welcome bag. The scent was tied into the reception where guests danced the night away amongst candles and tropical florals. It smelled wonderful! Now, every time they burn that candle, they will be reminded of their wedding night on Maui.

Taste

Coming from Italian (groom) and Filipino (bride) backgrounds, naturally, food and drink were very important elements. Veronica and Andrew both have a thing for coffee so guests were greeted with homemade cold brew (and POG- they were in Maui, after all) upon arrival. An Italian style dinner was served under a beautiful Sperry Tent overlooking the ocean and late night snacks of chicken and waffles were devoured! Did we mention that the entire menu was gluten and dairy free?!

Sight

The couple wanted to incorporate as many local elements as possible so naturally, tropical was the direction of the design. A custom cane bar was made for this event by Inspiration Event Rentals. Florals were important to the couple and so was family style service so we incorporated “risers” to elevate the food platters so the floral design was not compromised. Mandy Grace Designs created an abundance of florals and tropical fruits spilling out from under the platters and in between. We loved how it turned out- it created a dimensional look that was really fun.

Touch

Veronica and Andrew wanted guests to feel comfortable. We created many lounge areas for guests to escape to for a moment of relaxation. Some of the lounge pieces were handmade by local artisan, Jonas of Artisan Events Maui. He hand makes all of his furniture and it is stunning!

Sound

A live tropical foliage DJ booth was created in the original altar area of the Steeple House at Kapalua, so naturally, DJ Boomshot became “Reverend Boomshot” for the evening. OTHER SPECIAL DETAILS:
– Veronica graciously agreed to share some of her bridal boudoir images in addition to her welcome reception photos for this submission.
– He’s Italian and she’s filipino so naturally, food was important to them. They had an Italian grazing-style family dinner that was entirely gluten and dairy free under a sperry tent overlooking the ocean.
– Filipino traditions included a long veil, a custom made infinity cord (made with Hawaiian ti leaf) to illustrate their unity, coins (symbolic offering from the groom to the bride), and a money dance at the end of the night.
– To appeal to all 5 senses and improve the guest experience they chose VoluSpa Candle Mokara as their signature wedding scent. These candles filled the reception area and were given to guests in welcome bags so they had a scent that reminded them of their night in Maui.
– Their seating chart was displayed on their favorite wine bottles

From the Groom… Our wedding felt day so effortless – it was so important but it also managed to be so laid back, on island time, without a worry in the world. I just knew at the end of the day I was marrying my soul mate, and our families got to witness it. None of it felt rushed – slow, peaceful bliss all day, then energy and fun chaos at night. One thing that we managed to create was this atmosphere in which guests could feel like hosts – having different seating arrangements, and a prolonged dinner gave the opportunity for people to invite others to their “section”, to come into their conversation, to share their joys and observations, to pour each other wine or other offerings. This series of hosting and mingling provided an unparalleled opportunity for our families, separated by oceans and continents, to really feel a deep familiarity and connection to each other. Our planning process was rigorous, no doubt. We had to live up to the standard that our grandmothers, the matriarchs of our families, created – to try to satisfy everyone’s needs in excess until they feel completely pampered. For our family, this meant food, food, and more food. And of course, none of it would have been possible without Erica from Couture Events!

From the Bride… Working with Erica made planning feel effortless especially compared to family and friends who did not have a planner from the very beginning. We felt so lucky to have Couture Events! From long distance planning, our first visit in February, and to our 10 days in Maui for the wedding, we felt so taken care of, and that our vision was truly understood. Plus, she was generous and organized! She made our lives easier. We were able to achieve the “feel” of our wedding perfectly. Originally, it was inspired by photos of Andrew’s grandparents wedding in Italy – there are images of wine bottles on the table, people enjoying their food. There was movement and life captured in the still images – we wanted that. There’s an incredible photo of his grandmother and grandfather walking from the church to reception with their guests trailing behind. I wanted to recreate that in some way, so we took a group shot right after the ceremony, and it’s one of my favorite images of the wedding. Overall, it felt breezy, beautiful, and bespoke! We both wanted an elevated backyard wedding, and that’s exactly what we got. Our focus on good food is a choice we will never, ever regret. We still talk about our incredible wedding meal, and we wish we could re-create Chef Brian’s taro gnocchi and maple bourbon chicken & waffle bites. I loved that aspects of our wedding really bucked tradition. We went with a unique timeline – dinner before cocktail hour was so great. I loved that people could enjoy sunset with a glass in hand. We didn’t do much of the traditional aspects of weddings like a bouquet toss or even saying “I do” in our vows, and I’m so happy we went with what felt right to us because looking back, this wedding truly felt like ours. As the bride, I am so glad we use our photographers so much – the welcome luau, my boudoir shoot, and the wedding. Our photos have such good cohesiveness because the photographers worked with us on multiple occasions. If only, I could have them do my maternity shoot! A videographer is a must, in my opinion. It will be irreplaceable to be able to hear my dad’s voice wishing us love and happiness 30 years from now. If I could do it all again, I don’t think I would change anything – except maybe to get third helpings of the food! From having a signature wedding scent to having multiple events with our family and friends, it couldn’t have been better. Maui is pure magic. It will always be one of our sacred places, and I’m so excited for the day we can go back!

This Couple Brought Old-World European Inspiration to Tropical Maui For The Most Beautiful Day!

For a couple who loves to travel, incorporating some old-world, European charm into their Maui wedding day was at the top of their list of importance and made for a beautiful event! Put together by Maui’s Angels Weddings, the day was full of soft tones, lush florals by Teresa Sena Designs and of course a tropical backdrop! Christine Clark photographed the magic at The Olowalu Plantation House and I have to say those images of the couple by the water are giving me some serious heart eyes! Take a peek below to see it all!

From Maui’s Angels WeddingsAs lovers of travel, a destination wedding made perfect sense for Misha and Garin. Having taken engagement photos in Paris, as well as having traveled throughout Europe they wanted a classic, old-world feel on the wedding day.

Vintage style chandeliers, ivory fabric draped canopies, and lush greenery helped bring their vision to life. Following a heartfelt ceremony performed by a close friend, the bride and groom enjoyed tropical cocktails with their guests and captured a few images with the vintage 1957 ivory Porsche replica on display for the event.

Before dinner, the couple shared their first dance, which was choreographed to perfection! Guests enjoyed an island-style meal followed by local desserts including Thai coconut cake pops, lilikoi mousse, and grapefruit basil tarts.

The festivities continued with dancing and after-dinner drinks and a wedding cake with some perfect love song lyrics enjoyed under the beautiful Maui stars!

A Magical Maui Wedding with Hanging Gardens Over Every Reception Table!

Wow. There is so much to love about this Four Seasons Maui wedding, from a non-traditional color palette for a tropical wedding, to outfit changes for both bride and groom, to the bride’s vision of hanging gardens created by Teresa Sena Designs and Rio Event Design. With “wow-moments” like a carefully choreographed first dance to unbelievable “wow-images” by Chris J. Evans, it is safe to say it was a struggle picking just a few to showcase! Take a look below and be sure to check out the full gallery to see even more…like knife throwers and every magical detail planned by Opihi Love Wedding & Event Design.

From Opihi Love Wedding & Event DesignYuchen and Peiran’s romantic and whimsical wedding was nothing short of perfection. We focused highly on the bride’s wedding design and color palette which included tones of mustard yellow and dusty rose. With flowers being the main focus, we brought in Teresa Sena to achieve the bride’s vision of a hanging garden over guests’ dining tables. In order to achieve the hanging gardens, Rio Event Design custom-designed canopies to hang each piece and romantic crystal chandeliers hung in each canopy to highlight the hanging garden and the blush taper candles, low candlelight, and gorgeous blooms in creams, dusty rose, and yellow tones to create a romantic tabletop experience. The tables were draped in velvet linens to bring a soft design and the place settings all included gold elements by Set Collections. Each place setting included custom menus created by the bride and hexagon marble place cards with each guest’s name.

The ceremony had a touch of flowers in large compotes at the start of the steps as guests entered into the ceremony location. The bride wanted to keep the florals simple at the ceremony location since there is an incredible view of Maui and the large Plumeria trees created a beautiful setting.

The bride included many unique items throughout her wedding which included hand-drawn wedding invitations with the couple standing in front of their ceremony location with their dog Matcha. She also included a tropical photo booth set up which included a peacock chair to bring in a boho vibe with gold painted flamingos. The couple also practiced for months and performed a choreographed first dance to the song “You are the Reason”. Their first dance included lifts, spins, and steps that will be remembered by their guests forever.

Now, let’s talk about that dress and veil customized by Galia Lahav. The bride wanted a low back, mermaid silhouette with a touch of sparkle. The dress is classic, romantic and a little sexy. Galia also helped the bride add in embellishments around the waist to make it unique. The bride’s second dress change was customized by ShiniUni. She wanted something flowy and easy to dance in. She also loved a halter neckline and included stars scattered all over her dress.

The groom was dressed in Ermeneglido Zegna which brought in a dark navy color into the wedding design. His dress change included an off- white jacked which was a gift for his 30th birthday!

How One Couple Incorporated Nods to Both Their Unique Cultures at Their Maui Wedding

There’s nothing more special or romantic than when a couple represents their unique backgrounds coming together as one on their wedding day. Unveiled Hawaii helped the adorable bride and groom celebrate their cultures through custom details and personalized touches, from their ornament escort cards to the invitation suite. To top it all off,  tropical arrangements in moody hues from Mei Day added an extra dose of beauty to their seaside ceremony. See all the special moments (plus a surprise performance from Common Kings) captured perfectly by Wendy Laurel at the full gallery!

From Wendy Laurel Photography… Sierra and Anthony live on the San Manuel Band of Indian’s reservation located near Highland, CA. The bride is a part of the Yuhaaviatam tribe and the groom is of Filipino descent. They wanted to honor both their cultures and traditions in their multi day wedding event.

Many details were designed to incorporate nods to both the bride and groom’s culture, even down to the Christmas ornaments that served as escort cards given their wedding date of 12. 15. 18. Moody hues were mixed with tropical florals, hanging pendant lights and custom backdrops.

The wedding venue is the Montage Kapalua Bay, with a bridal luncheon having been hosted the day prior. The weekend began for guests with a native bohemian inspired welcome reception at Olowalu Plantation House.

The band Common Kings was a surprise for the groom from the bride and the grand reveal was when they started playing their first dance song at the wedding. Traditional Bird Songs were performed by the bride’s family to share the tribes culture with the groom’s family.

Home Was The Perfect Destination For These Hawaii Natives

For these Hawaii natives, choosing a destination location which just so happened to be home for them was a no brainer! The Four Seasons Maui was the venue of choice, exactly what they envisioned for their tropical soiree filled with palm leaves, a gorgeous floral arbor and the cutest baby pineapples you’ve ever seen. With a completely outdoor wedding, from ceremony to reception, Aria Studios had all of the natural lighting you (and a film photographer) could dream of! Country Bouquets Maui crafted the picture-perfect tropical florals from bouquets to centerpieces full of the most stunning colors and flower crowns to match! Take a peek below and read how the bride found her dream dress just in time!

From the Bride…When we first started planning, we knew we wanted two things: to get married in Hawaii and to capture the tropical vibrancy of a sunset. We’re both from Oahu, so choosing the Four Seasons Maui as our venue felt like the perfect mix of home and destination. Everything came together on the big day. We got to celebrate with friends and family from all over, and every detail we deliberated on and dreamed of – food, flowers, linens, and so on – were all realized in the beautiful Maui surroundings. It was a day filled with laughter, joyous tears, delicious food, and so much love. It was perfect.

So guilty admission, I didn’t realize how far in advance you’re supposed to find a dress! Eight months out, I had been to numerous dress shops and tried on dozens of dresses, but I didn’t quite love any of them. Still, I felt like I had to choose in order to get the dress in time. But the thought gnawed at me. Maybe there wasn’t such a thing as “THE dress” or maybe I just started too late to have enough time to find it. And then I saw Alexandra Grecco’s gowns, and even though everyone told me to stop looking, I couldn’t help it. The Dress Theory was having a trunk show that weekend, so I went… just to put it to rest, I told myself. But the moment I slipped on the Iris gown, I knew. It felt so right (the fact that the liner was super soft probably helped lol) and if there was a way, I had to wear this dress at my wedding. The wonderful ladies at The Dress Theory were able to do a rush order of the dress, giving us plenty of time for alterations and I was so happy to wear THE dress for the wedding!

When it came to our design decisions about the wedding, we went with the idea of a “pineapple sunset” to reflect the colors and vibe we were aiming for: tropical, vibrant balanced by softer tones, relaxed but stunning. I spent hours combing through photos on Pinterest and Instagram, at first saving anything that caught my eye. Then going through and narrowing down the saved images really helped me define what I liked and what I was trending towards, although for a good while it looked like I had three different wedding styles in the works! I even made terrible cut and paste images from those photos to see how different elements might look together – the table, the plates, and glasses, the flowers. It was my life for a good chunk of a year, but I’m happy to say it all paid off in the end!

From the Photographer, Jess Nakasone of ARIA StudiosWe had an amazing time working with Annie and Justin. Their colorful designs and decision to have an all outdoor wedding paired perfectly with our company because as film photographers, WE LOVE GORGEOUS NATURAL LIGHT!! Their ceremony site was located on Molokini Lookout which is on a golf course and it was a very sunny day but film photography is amazing at handling really bright light. We’ve been offering film photography to our clients for several years now and we love the look and feel of film. Film captures light in really beautiful ways and leaves us with light bathed images that give us all the feels.

How to Blend Traditional Elegance with Island Style at Your Destination Wedding

This California couple took to the islands to celebrate their “I do’s”! From the ombre “be our guest” escort card display to the al fresco reception with ocean views in a sea of powder blue – everything about this stunning seaside affair was planned to perfection by Bespoke Destination Events! Bella Bloom Floral Boutique created lush arrangements full of bright pink dahlias and creamy roses. At the end of the night, their lucky guests were surprised by fire dancers and a shaved ice truck (okay, we’re officially jealous!) Don’t miss a moment over at the full gallery captured perfectly by Ana Delores Photography!

From Anna DeloresWhen Sydney and Mark first met over nine years ago, it was while searching for a class they were both taking at Moorpark College. It turned into their “accidental first date” when they (quickly and easily) gave up looking for the classroom in favor of dinner together instead. We love this “meet cute!”

When Mark decided to propose, he planned a girls’ day out for Sydney and Taylor (Sydney’s maid of honor, who was also in on Mark’s secret). Bride-to-be Sydney thought they were just going shopping for a trip to Vegas, but because Mark was planning to propose, he just wanted her to have a fun day of pampering first. Sydney had a few hours to buy a dress, and Mark made hair and makeup appointments, delivering all this information to Sydney with a card that said “shit just got real.”

Later that night, Taylor finally led Sydney to the bluffs in Malibu, where Mark got down on one knee. Sydney and Mark are truly best friends; on their wedding day, they both struggled to hold back tears while Sydney walked down the aisle.

Their wedding day was planned by local Maui planners Bespoke Destination Events (with Sydney’s aesthetic vision taking the lead for the romantic, modernly elegant, ethereal decor details at the ceremony and reception). This California couple made the reception extra-special for their guests traveling to Maui with a welcome reception on a chartered boat, a fire dance performance during dinner, and a shave ice truck during dancing!

From Platinum Weddings & EventsKia + Michael met on the Fourth of July in a beautiful cabin in the woods of Northern Minnesota. They refer to their love as a “you-know-it-the-moment-you-met type of thing” :-) Kia says that they “clicked instantly”! Although they did long-distance between Hong Kong (Michael is a pilot based out of Hong Kong) and Minnesota, their love only continued to grow. Michael proposed by taking Kia to a secluded beach at Margaret River down south in Western Australia. In honor of this memory, in conjunction with their Wedding in Maui, Kia + Michael’s Wedding Planner, Taryn, gifted the couple with two coffee table photo books on their Big Day (one of Margaret River and one of Maui, Hawaii), both with tailored calligraphy that read as follows: Margaret River
“Marry me, my wonderful, darling friend.” – Jane Austin and for the Maui book “Kia + Michael October 7, 2018”

Kia + Michael were married at the Sugar Beach Estate in Maui, Hawaii. The Bride + Groom enjoyed relaxing at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort while getting prepped for their Big Day, as a magnificent team of vendors selected by Platinum Weddings & Events brought their vision to life. Guests were lei-greeted by Hawaiian Hula Dancers before they made their way down a jungle path lined with tiki torches. Upon entering the Ceremony, they were greeted with lush tropical flowers and an incomparable ocean backdrop. Cocktails followed while guests enjoyed styling their own flower crowns for the celebration. A beautiful lounge was arranged with a congratulatory topiary wall, providing the perfect place for relaxing and photo ops. Guests transitioned to the Dinner Reception after signing the Groom’s Guest Book: a surfboard to be mounted in the couple’s new home! The Dinner Hall was dripping in tropical florals of pinks + greens; each table hosted a floral chandelier with glowing hand-blown glass bowls. The backdrop of the Head Table was an ombre wall of carnations. A beautiful, statement floral chandelier crowned the dance floor as guests celebrated into the night.

A Vibrant Maui Destination Wedding at Sugar Beach Estate

When the bride is from Australia, and the groom is from the States… the only place that was the perfect halfway point and ticked every one of their wedding must-have boxes also happens to be a place of paradise. Yup, you guessed right! This gorgeous wedding day captured by SASs Photography and planned by Platinum Weddings & Events took place on the happiest little island of Maui at Sugar Beach Estate. From her chic Vera Wang gown to the tropical blooms from Dellables, we can’t gush enough about the gorgeousness of this wedding day…

From the bride… Scott and Lauren are the classic – Boy meets Girl. Boy likes Girl, Girl likes Boy. The complicating factor is that they lived over 5000 miles away from each other: Lauren lived in Australia and Scott lived in Washington DC. Long, long distance story short, Lauren moved to Washington, D. C. And their Maui wedding planning wasn’t far behind.

Lauren and Scott’s wedding day was more than the start of their marriage, it was their way of thanking their friends and family for supporting them through long distance, international move, and for helping make them the couple they are today. With that in mind they knew they had to incorporated these three factors: a) a location that combined fun with relaxation, b) amazing food, and c) a setting that would reflect them as a couple. Hawaii was an easy pick, particularly because it was half-way.

Lauren – a true beach gal at heart and Scott, a gentleman who will spend only so long sprawled on the beach, Hawaii ticked box a. It also has such amazing fresh food and local produce that we knew we would be in good hands for box b. Most importantly Hawaii had the ability to capture the essence of them as a couple: it could be as fun and down to earth just as much as it could be classic and elegant. We knew that the wedding was the end event of an amazing week on Maui and therefore, needed to be big, full of energy and packing all the “WOW” factor. Lauren and Scott knew when they started planning the wedding that we really wanted the beautiful backdrop of Maui to speak for itself and simply to add touches that highlighted and showcased what the island had to offer. This style fitted them perfectly: elegant, classic and fresh.

They choose a simple color scheme of white, gold and greenery. The venue, Sugar Beach Estate, provided the most stunning waterfront backdrop, which was ideal as the space did not overpower nature’s beauty, yet continued to wow even after the sun went down. Florals were a big priority, with dreams of hanging orchids and greenery. They trusted their planner’s recommendation for the florist based on the vision they had given her and they definitely exceeded the dream! (see the reaction photo alone!).

The vendors executed Scott and Lauren’s vision completely and then some… They definitely went above beyond, bringing extra lawn games, gifting chargers for the table setting, and adding additional florals. It was those little touches that made them realize how grateful they were for selecting incredible vendors with the huge help of Platinum Weddings & Events.

Family is incredibly important to both Scott and Lauren and they wanted to involve them as much as possible. Scott’s father, John, was the officiant. This was such a memorable moment, especially considering Scott’s grandfather had married his mother and father. Both mothers and the father of the bride performed readings which left the guests with teary eyes. The kept their bridal party small, consisting only of their siblings. They were truly surrounded by love and family. One of the most unforgettable moments was Scott’s cousin, Olivia’s performance. Olivia had never performed in front of the family before, so it was a special treat for her to perform. Everyone was in awe from the first note and her father, Rigo, had tears of pride streaming down his face.

Although, the tears had already started before Lauren took her first steps down the aisle, Lauren walked down the aisle to the song Scott wrote for their first Christmas together – “Loz’s song”, a one of kind and complete expression of Scott’s love for Lauren. It detailed their love story which was the perfect tune to take those steps to the pinnacle of their love story – their ceremony. Other special details of the day included: a veil borrowed from Lauren’s best friend Bernadette (who couldn’t be present because she had just given birth) and Lauren’s earrings that were remade from her grandmothers jewelry. Lauren also hand-painted flip flops for each of the ladies to change into when the dancing started which matched the handcrafted beach welcome bags she made for each of the guests. The two most unforgettable moments of the night happened after the band started playing. The first time Lauren travelled to meet Scott’s family, he sent her a warning – “Beware, our family has this weird tradition with the chicken dance.” Once the chicken dance begins to play, the whole family circles around cousin Lala and performs the dance. This has happened in the middle of Rome, restaurants, Thanksgiving Dinners, and so a wedding was no different. Their incredible photographer Sydney of SASs Photography took the most amazing photos of family members mid-flight. Not to be out down, the Aussies also rallied to some classic Aussie rock making a dance circle and belting out some true Aussie songs… By the end of one Australian Ballard, it was the Aussies and the USA crews mixed together. It was at this point the wedding met every single expectation. Families and friends coming together as one incredible group, who were there because they shared love for one incredible couple. It was truly a dream come true. When planning a wedding, selecting your vendors is the most overwhelming and important task – you are trusting them to bring your vision life. None more so than the photographer, what they capture is the one token you keep forever and display. Sydney from SASs Photography is a great friend of the couple and they struggled with wanting her to photograph the wedding and also attend and enjoy the wedding. With every photographer considered, no one could live up to the style and talent that they love about Sydney’s work. They are so glad she was the one to capture the day. Her eye is perfect for those in between moments that really evoke the emotion of the day. Because she was familiar to both the bride and groom, it was was easy to feel at ease in front of her camera and were able to communicate wants perfectly. The end result was a flawless album, where you can’t help but feel the emotion that poured out at every moment of the day. The day ran seamlessly, much thanks to Amber from Platinum Wedding and Events. Amber was like the best friend who was right there helping you plan your wedding. She was happy to give suggestions and got just as excited by Lauren’ little details. The team clearly had amazing relations with the local vendors, which was made even more evident by the vendors going above and beyond. Amber was even standing at the end of the aisle holding baby Palmer – the newest edition to the family.

Two things Lauren and Scott were grateful for on the day was, first trusting their planner and letting go of the reigns on the day. Lauren’s advice for future brides, “you know you have selected your planner so trust them,” Lauren explained that they had been in constant contact with Amber through the process and felt like they were old friends. Letting her do her thing on the day really took the stress and worry away. Secondly, Lauren and Scott did a first look. It may not be for everyone, but taking that time for just Scott and Lauren before the celebrations kicked off was such a sweet moment amongst a beautiful day. Scott’s reaction was beautiful and it allowed the couple to just enjoy their emotions. The upside was that after the ceremony they didn’t have to rush to doing couples or family portraits. Lauren and Scott had intentionally planned for their family to also have a “first look” and did all of their family photos before the ceremony had begun. This allowed them to step straight into the cocktail reception and really enjoy having that time with their guest. Lauren and Scott would highly recommend this to future couples, who maybe aren’t going the traditional ceremony route. With a venue as special and incredibly decorated, Scott and Lauren also wanted to look the part. Lauren prioritized comfort but did not want to sacrifice her classic and elegant style. The Vera Wang gown selected from Carine’s Bridal was perfect. Lauren said loved it the moment she put it one, it just felt her and when she walked out to show her mum and mother-in-law, they both had a slow tear run down their face, she knew it was a done deal. With some many beautiful gowns out there, Lauren knew her gown was the perfect choice, because no matter how many she saw after trying it on, she always came back to it. “I loved that it was a classic style, the material was heavenly and yet it allowed me to feel sexy and did not stop me dancing on the dance floor.“ Lauren knew that because her dress was simple and elegant, she could do something bold for her bouquet – orchids spilling down in a big bouquet, was one of her favorite decisions and really just elevated the dress to WOW! Lauren also decided to change into a party-dress to finish off the night. Laure is the one gal who will close down the dance floor! It was special day and she really wanted to shine… The full sparkle dress was brought form a small Australian store and was the perfect Cinderella moment to end the night!

Say “Aloha” to this Colorful Sugar Beach Destination Wedding

Consider this wedding your totally free, one-way ticket to paradise! Wendy Laurel worked her magic once again and transported us straight to island time with these beautiful photos. Sugar Beach Events provided the dreamiest backdrop for the most beautiful bride (seriously, how stunning is she!?) and groom to start their lives together. Oh, and if you’re a fan of bougainvillea, then allow Maui Palm Tree to make all your floral dreams come true. “Aloha” and welcome to paradise…

Annaliese was the most effortlessly beautiful bride. Her beachy waves, soft makeup and colorful flower crown made for the perfect island look.

I loved their “how we met” story, that is usually the first thing I ask my couples and one of my favorite ways to get to know them. Cameron walked into a restaurant where he was applying to work for the summer and saw Annaliese across the room light up by a shaft of incoming sunlight. He said he just knew. And of course the rest is history.

They had a tie with Maui through Annaliese’s family’s history of spending time on Maui and owning property here and decided what better place to celebrate their marriage with family and friends.

As for the wedding, blue is always my favorite wedding color. I loved the bridesmaids’ gowns in different hues of blue. I’m all about the mix and match look. They looked gorgeous next to the sea. And the bright bouquets really contrasted beautifully.

Maui Palm Tree did such an amazing job with the floral design. Garlands filled with greenery, bougainvillea and king proteas flanked the banquet tables. The bride and groom couldn’t have been more excited to see their tropical wedding dreams come to life!

Elopement Trends: Family Style in Maui

Inquiring minds want to know…. if you are a wedding planner or a photographer in Hawaii and you spend the better part of your life helping couples get ready for their big day, how is it even possible to make each one more amazing than the next? Can you even imagine calling Hawaii your home base? Dream job. We’re pretty sure that  Wendy Laurel and Ali at Maui’s Angels will add a resounding yes! Some brides talk about wanting a blank canvas to create and design their wedding. If that’s you, don’t plan a destination elopement or wedding to Hawaii. IF, however, you are more the ‘surround me with all the natural beauty I can stand’ type… you’ve got it. Everywhere you turn. A panoramic backdrop of all the colors of the rainbow, sun up to sun down and everywhere in between. Not to mention the sheer excitement of just being there. You can tell by looking at the expressions on everyone’s face in this wedding, camera-shyness wasn’t allowed! Read on to hear more about this couple’s “family-style” elopement.

From Wendy Laurel Photography… This “family-style elopement” is getting more and more popular in the destination wedding genre…. Couples are bringing their family and closest friends to Hawaii for their wedding — an elopement of sorts — but with family.

Maui was a perfect destination for Rory and Sabrina because he is from Australia while she is from the mainland  ~ so Hawaii was the perfect place to meet in the middle.

The bougainvilleas on the ceremony arch and in her bouquet were gorgeous and out of the ordinary. Another twist was that the couple wanted to walk across the street to Leodas Pie Shop (a famous and very popular cafe and pie shop on Maui) and share a banana cream pie and take some photos at the fruit stand. It was a great mix of elegance + laid back-ness for a wedding day.

O ko mākou mau hoohiwahiwa i Rory a me Sabrina! {hope we got that right!!}

Oceanfront Elegance at the Olowalu Plantation House

From Platinum Weddings and Events… With the groom’s family ties rooted deep in the island of Hawaii, choosing Maui as their destination wedding location was an easy choice for this gorgeous couple. ~photography by Chris J Evans

The couple wanted a more traditional bamboo canopy for the ceremony. So we created an asymmetrical draping to set their alter apart from weddings done in the past.

Bridesmaids wore neutral colored Joanna August dresses to accent the bride’s hand beaded, custom-made gown.

The couple’s design vision was one of classic romance meets Maui: lots of greenery and white flowers; long wooden farm tables with flowing neutral table runners and gold accents.

Platinum Weddings and Events came in and added touches of bronze and emerald to the tablescape, and natural wood calligraphy to tie in the natural-Hawaii feel of the Big Day.

Modern Maui Romance at Olowalu Plantation

As a wedding planner, my approach to being ‘The Bride’ was less formal than most. My fiancé and I knew that we wanted a venue that was intimate, romantic and exclusive. We had designed so many wonderful events in San Diego over the past five years, we thought a destination wedding would be refreshing!  In order to blend both of our styles, we decided “Modern Romance” was fitting for our design aesthetic. ~ from Alyssa of Aly Ann Events

Crazy enough, we did not see the venue or meet any of our vendors (minus our photographer and officiant who we flew to Hawaii) in person before the big day!

On the morning of our wedding, my mother gifted me a book “Letters to my Daughters on the Art of Being a Wife”. Wow, what a special and loving gift! I have treasured the heartfelt notes presented inside over the last few months.

While finalizing our day-of details, there were two events that we included in the program that were special to our story. First, was the rose ceremony. Once the officiant pronounced us man and wife, he gave us each a rose. This was the first gift we officially gave to one other and a symbol of the commitment we had just made. He encouraged us to celebrate our love with a single rose on each anniversary and to bring one home when things were rocky. We thought this was a beautiful way to not only remember our day, but begin this next chapter together.

I adore the little things, especially delicate details, so it was a true joy working with a lilac/ivory color palette. This combination is subtle, yet sophisticated. We hoped to create a lush garden feel in paradise. The lilac/lavender duo was a gorgeous compliment to all of the greenery on the island.

The second special event was to set aside time after the formal dances to surprise my parents with their “first dance”. When they were married 26 years ago, they did not have the opportunity to have this special moment. My husband was kind enough to grace them with this time to the song they had originally planned to dance to many years ago, Chances Are by Johnny Mathis. I will never forget those few minutes of pure bliss. They were so happy.

After four months of marriage, my husband and I are still so happy with our wedding in Maui. It was so fun seeing guests (total of 70) all over the island the week before the big day and celebrating together. The smaller guest count allowed us to spend more money on specialty items, like the velvet rose linen that many of the guests loved!

Now ~ please enjoy this heartwarming short film of Adam and Alyssa’s wedding day from Sunlit Films!!
