Sex in the City Fans, You May Recognize This Bride’s Shoes

Inspired by her fashion icon, this pretty Bride wore Carrie Bradshaw’s blue Manolo Blahnik pumps for her something blue on her wedding day, and we absolutely love how they paired with her Monique Lhuillier gown – no surprise, with these two timeless brands. Absolutely Loved photographed the wedding on Oahu’s North Shore, which perfectly reflected the Bride’s style with the help of Nichole Weddings and Events and Passion Roots‘ lovely floral arrangements. See it all right here.

From Absolutely Loved PhotographyJennifer and Ned’s Hawaii destination wedding took place at the naturally beautiful Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu. The Bride wore a romantic lace dress, her Bridesmaids wore glamorous sequined dresses, and the gentlemen wore ocean-inspired navy suits. The neutral florals were complemented nicely with whites, greens, and soft tones of blush. It was a simple wedding by the beach with emphasis on the couple and their close family and friends.

From the Bride… I met Ned through a friend when he moved home to Seattle after living in Vegas for nine years. We were instantaneously best friends and would hang out every day after work, either eating at the newest restaurants in Seattle or binge watching Game of Thrones. He eventually took me on our first date to watch a movie (Lay the Favourite) which he was an extra in but didn’t tell me until I saw him on the big screen. At that moment, I knew he was someone unique that I wanted to get to know more. For our one year dating anniversary, he took me to Europe on a backpacking trip, but knowing my love for luxury hotels, he made sure each night we laid our heads to rest at the most beautiful hotels even though we had walked to see sights all day and only had 3-4 outfits which we wore for 2 weeks! A couple years into dating, we took a weekend trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, and that is where he proposed!

For my bridal look, I absolutely love Monique Lhuillier – her pieces are timeless, classy, and feminine. I am also drawn to ornate details like my floating straps and back details. One of my fashion icons is Sarah Jessica Parker – I have always wanted to own the blue Manolo Blahniks from the Sex and the City movie and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to include them as my something blue. I searched high and low for a makeup artist who was fashion forward but also had strong techniques and found Liz from Maui Makeup Artistry who exceeded my expectations by far!

Ned picked out (from Blue Nile) the engagement ring all on his own and completely shocked me. He is extremely traditional, and I would have never guessed he would purchase a yellow diamond, but he chose something that represented me. I strive to be different from the pack and walk to the beat of my own drum, and he wanted me to have a ring that was different from the rest.

We wanted to be on the quieter side of Oahu (North Shore) with beautiful views and great hotel service so we wouldn’t have to worry about catering, decor, etc., so we chose Turtle Bay Resort. It also probably helped that we love Forgetting Sarah Marshall (which was shot at the resort).

Three moments from our big day stood out to me: 1) My dad’s speech, which was heartfelt and reminded me that I was the apple of his eye and how excited he was to welcome Ned into our family. 2) Stepping out as husband and wife for the first time amongst our closest friends and family was the most amazing feeling ever, to be surrounded by so much love. 3) The first dance where Ned sang all the words to Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran to me – it was the song that we both loved when we first heard it and would sing it in the car together, plus it played on the radio right after he proposed to me, so we knew it had to be our first dance song!

Colorful Banana Orchard Wedding Inspiration

Darlings, if anything is going to brighten your Monday, this gem from Jonathan Canlas is it. It’s a magical little escape filled with deliciously colorful details… florals from Green Honolulu in every corner, sweet stationery from Bradley & Lily to top of that insane tablescape and sooo much more. With creative direction from Avery Solmssen and coordinated by Nichole Weddings & Events, it’s bursting with pretty.

From Jonathan CanlasThis photo shoot is a realization of years of day dreaming about an imaginary party at Kahuku Farms. When I first toured the property with my family it reminded me of home. I grew up on farm in California. So the tractors and the dust where second nature to me. The beauty of the fruit and flowers in the natural environment was so inspiring. And as the day went on I found myself drawn to the banana orchards.

Walking down the road through the banana orchard you are enveloped by the fronds of the large banana trees. The tunnel of fronds hug the road leaving a dappled dance of light on the red dirt. From the first moment I walked this road I imagined a party; bright with color, rich with texture, and loud with laughter. The bananas trees create this long hall that feels like a beautiful indoor space almost like living wallpaper. I knew this could be something magical.

The creative confluence of the flowers, the lighting, the materials, the beautiful models brought to life the images in my mind. Every vendor brought their unique gifts to this party in the banana patch and made it come to life. It is a beautiful moment of time that harvested the very best that everyone has to offer.

From Jonathan CanlasThis was a small destination wedding for Kristin and Derek who live in Austin, Texas. There were around 35 guests, almost all were family members from across the US. It was a rather quick engagement and Hawaii is very special to both of them, as is family, so they decided on a smaller celebration with their family on the North Shore of Oahu. This is not a wedding heavy in details per say but still heavy in details in the fact that the location, Hawaii, work as the details. The local flare, “natives” from the Polynesian Cultural Center, scenic landscapes, endless ocean views and beaches make this wedding.

From the Bride… Before Derek and I even became serious about marriage, I think we both knew Hawaii was the place. It all started early on in our relationship when I invited him to join me for a wedding in Vail, Colorado for a close family friend. Being in our early 30’s meant we had both attended our fair share of weddings but none of them felt quite like this. It was like a happy weekend getaway with all of the guests celebrating love, life and friendship together. It was such a happy weekend and from then on we knew there was no question that a destination wedding was for us… and what better place than Hawaii. Fast forward almost four years and we truly had the wedding of our dreams. Hawaii is like a dream land and although it took some doing to get there… It was a trip that none of our guests will forget. It was a prefect day, with our favorite people in the most beautiful spot. I only wish we could do it all over again! Best day ever!!

From Simply Rose PhotographyNoreen and Jeremy’s sun-drenched wedding was held at the Turtle Bay Resort on the famous North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Everything about this day was overwhelmingly lovely — from the glitzy, glittery Givenchy heels to the delicate floral centerpieces that Tamara Rigney designed for the reception tables. No detail was left to chance or overly done. The couple’s impeccable taste and style were woven throughout the day, and the backdrop of sand and blue waters were a perfect complement to their easy-going personalities. The day was beyond memorable — the location was stunning, the couple was so wonderful, and family and friends were so warm and inviting. It was the perfect wedding!

Oahu Wedding by Max Wanger Photography

We like to make up new categories of weddings around here and if we had to pick this would be considered a Warm and Fuzzy, Feel Good Affair (with a side of delicious paper goods). Actually most, if not ALL weddings fall in that category but this gem is EXTRA super duper shiny and happy. It’s everything from the Hawaiian backdrop to the light-filled images by mega-talented Max Wanger Photography to the last dance caught on film by Love Sick Weddings. We dare you to try and get through the full gallery without cracking a big huge smile. It’s practically impossible because this wedding is smile-inducing times a billion. And we heart every last second of it.

Told ya! It’s dreamy, dreamy, dreamy and it’s about to get even dreamier with the film of the day shot by Love Sick Weddings. Turn that volume up a notch or two because you will so want to dance along…

From the bride… All throughout our 10 years together, Rob and I have found every excuse to escape to the beach and decided, just like that, a little seaside wedding in Hawaii with our 50 closest friends and family was our idea of bliss. Hailing from the food mecca that is San Francisco (read: we LIVE to eat), we wanted to infuse our multicultural roots (Korean and Filipino) into our tasty eats — kahlua pork “lumpia” appetizers, hot-off-the-grill Korean BBQ and kimchi galore, alongside just-shucked oysters and freshly-caught clambakes. As a nod to our Hawaiian surroundings, we celebrated some of our local favorites — grilled mango chicken, pineapple slaw and sweet potato salad, just to name a few. We were hell-bent on a menu that felt just like us and was cooked with love, so we requested that all of our entrees be grilled to order by an on-site chef at our beach reception. Our little wedding cake was the recipe of our favorite cake ever (tropical shag cake from San Francisco’s Citizen Cake) that the amazing Turtle Bay pastry chef custom-baked for us. And as a little surprise to our dance-fanatic guests, we treated our party to some heavenly Hawaiian late night goodness — teriyaki sliders, fries and malasadas (Hawaii’s version of beignets, which will change.your.life) with a little hot cocoa on the side.

We fell in love with the idea of a whimsical, dreamy beach celebration with a vibrant tropical sunset palette, watercolor paintings, colored glass, awesome music and LOTS of twinkling lights. The exquisite invitations designed by Rifle Paper Co. and dreamlike photography by Max Wanger were the anchor of our inspiration. I DIYed my little heart out with our sea critter escort cards, table cards, seating map, tassel garlands, chevron patterned signs and CD favors. I haunted my local flea markets and online shops for our vitrocolor lavender bottles, coral, sea urchin and airplant decor, linen table runners, watercolor sea life dessert plates and paper lanterns galore. And we shipped EVERYTHING (hello, 12 boxes!) to our marvelous wedding coordinator, Dianna of Hawaii Weddings & Events, who worked her magic and made our dreamy beach wedding visions come to life.

Since music has played a starring role in our relationship (we still make “mixtape” CDs for each other after all these years!), we carefully curated our own wedding soundtrack, that ranged from Motown and Brit Pop to ’80s and Hip-Hop. And the fantastic DJ Tony So spun the records and made sweet music magic. Our wedding party walked to Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed,” the La’s “There She Goes,” filled the sweet Hawaiian air while I beamed  down the aisle, our ceremony ended with The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love,” and our favorite tunes kept the dance floor hot like fire all night long. Our love has been a thrilling and challenging marathon of 10 amazing years, and our story was perfectly illustrated through the words we spoke that day. Our from the heart vows were more than words. They were the reflection of our decade of adventure, challenge, growth and chance – with a little inspiration from my favorite story, “The Giving Tree.” Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.
