From The Bride…My husband and I met at a restaurant in Long Beach five years ago. Three years later, he whisked me away on a romantic train ride up the coast of Southern California to Seattle, where he proposed to me over a candlelight dinner. Jay and I have opposite personalities but his funny, optimistic, and laid back views on life complement my serious, perfectionist and disciplined traits. Despite our differences, we both come from humble backgrounds with similar values. When we met it was a melting of two worlds and life for both of us has been so much more colorful.

Our October wedding was an intimate affair shared with family and close friends. Rancho Las Lomas, nestled in the foothills in Silverado, reminded me of my favorite childhood book, The Secret Garden. The location was romantic, whimsical and a little mysterious with its lush gardens, rustic buildings, fountains, and hidden corners. It was the perfect environment in which to hold our wedding and I wanted our decorations to echo these surroundings. Our floral decorations had a mixture of eucalyptus, garden roses, dahlias and hydrangeas. Our ceremony, cocktail, and reception areas were accented with beautiful, rustic wooden tables and doors from Found Vintage Rentals. We wanted soft and warm hues to bring out the fall season without the usual yellows and oranges, so we chose a neutral palette consisting of cream, taupe, pink and burgundy. Our reception area was decorated with strings of lights hanging above and we lined a nearby bridge with numerous candles. This venue, combined with the décor and lighting, created a truly magical ambiance for us.

For a whole year and half previous, I had put so much thought and care into creating our beautiful day. With the help of our wonderful vendors, it was so satisfying to see everything finally come together and we couldn’t be more thankful.

Eclectic Farmhouse

Welcome to the world of the eclectic farmhouse! Where no corner is left undecorated, not tschotke left unthought of. Old and new, modern and quirky, an artists paradise, if you will. Each item has been carefully curated throughout the years, and the home is a seamless blend of fabulous, effectively creating the perfect family home. With photos from Aliza Rae, there’s more treasure to be seen right here.

From Kristen: We live in a 1926 cream brick farmhouse, it was the second home to be built in our area. My husband and I love that it’s a perfect combination of old & new. I have been an artist in the fashion industry for 14 years. I believe fashion & decor inspire each other. I now, am happy to be a part of both! You could say I’ve always had it in me. Growing up I was always the one to rearrange the furniture in our house. I would put two feet on a wall and push!

This is our first home together, and it woke me up to my inner decorator (who came exploding out, never to be tamed again). The proof – I’m now taking interior decor classes & am obsessed. We wanted our home to be a calm refuge from our busy lives, so when we moved in, I began creating artwork for our home. I create calm, dreamy abstract paintings, & boho feather wall hangings. In our home, and in life, I tend to be drawn to cooler colors – I especially love any color found in the ocean & in nature. My style is eclectic mostly. I love mixing antique & modern, and believe that is the way to keep a home feeling current, yet livable. I love love using metallics in decor. It’s like adding jewelry to a room. I also believe it’s okay to mix different metals. I think it’s essential to layer in a room & add in lots of different texture – it’s interesting & keeps the eye moving.

I fill our home with treasures from our travels, and of course, things we love. The vase on our stairway is filled with shells I’ve collected all my life. The flower imprint I made in our family room is from our garden. I keep the bottle of wine we enjoyed when we got engaged on our bookshelves. I also love flea market finds!

From the photographer…Kristen has been a friend of mine for some time, and I have adored her home for years. She is super talented! I just had to share her style and art with the SMP crowd. She finds a way to keep her stylish home livable and I truly admire her. I just have to mention that Kristen’s wall hangings are for sale on Chairish, Etsy and One Kings Lane (for the holidays).

Organic + Vintage Mellon Park Garden Wedding

I’m coining this day Organic Garden Fairy Tale Magic… it’s absolute ethereal beauty, with the most delicate touches of whimsy. The loveliest of floral crowns, itsy-bitsy flower girls in garden green that will make you melt, paper cranes floating about and so much more. I promise you, Joey Kennedy will surely steal your heart with his gorgeous captures.

From the beautiful Bride… When we began planning our wedding, Patrick and I wanted to create a beautiful but relaxed day focused on celebrating our love with our families and closest friends. We wrote our own ceremony, selecting readings, songs and traditions that reflected who we are as a couple and where we come from. The entire day was saturated with personal touches and hand-made details with an overall organic, vintage feel. With the help of a family friend who did our calligraphy we created our own wedding invitations. I spent months collecting vintage china and brass candlesticks for the reception. We were very lucky to have our talented friend and chef create a beautiful meal for our guests, served by the most amazing crew who made our reception seamless. We designed and created all the floral arrangements, bouquets, boutonnieres and crowns with the help of our family on the morning before the wedding. Other projects included our paper mache table numbers and oversized initials, favors, custom match-boxes for our sparkler exit, our dessert table ribbon back-drop, paper crane ceremony backdrop, and our pressed-leaf escort cards hung from gold tree branches. But the most amazing personal touch that I will treasure forever was my talented mother who designed and hand made my wedding gown using mostly antique fabrics that belonged to by grandmother. She also hand made the bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses and groomsmen ties. It was a labor of love, and it made the whole experience of being a bride so very special for me.

We were very happy with our venue choices for our day. We let the beauty of the Walled Garden in Mellon Park shine on its own, and the Pittsburgh Opera, a renovated Westinghouse air-brake factory with an industrial feel, gave us a blank slate for us to create our dream reception. The few vendors that we did use were wonderful, with the whole day captured by the extremely talented Joey Kennedy.

Late Summer Harvest Picnic

I don’t know about you, but come September I spend as much time as physically possible outside. Before we know it, the leaves are going to fall and winter will be here. So let’s take a cue from Rani Hoover and soak up the late summer harvest while it’s still here! With photos from Brian Leahy, there’s more from this bountiful event right here.

From Rani Hoover… Brian Leahy Photography recently photographed a Santa Barbara styled editorial photo shoot with Leonardo Curti, owner of Tratoria Grappolo, at the Firestone Crossroads Estate in Los Olivos.

Leonardo cooked a gorgeous meal as a faux-hosted luncheon on the Veranda of the Victorian home at the Crossroads Estate. The shoot included an expansive tablescape, lawn bocce and of course Leonardo preparing and serving the most delicious edibles to the guests.

Elegant Backyard Brunch Wedding

I think brunch weddings are the best idea since sliced bread. Seriously, morning vows followed by mimosas is about as good as it gets, and this backyard affair from WINK! Weddings and onelove photography is all the proof we need. From the bride’s pale blue Oscar De La Renta to the waffle and bacon-filled menu, this is one wedding I would die to attend.

From onelove photographyThis no-fuss bride has great taste. Keeping a Grace Kelly vibe for her daytime wedding, she opted for waffles and bacon for brunch at her wedding! Topping off the warm summer afternoon with a gelato truck as guests departed! Coordinated by the amazingly talented WINK! Weddings team.

From The Bride…Jimmy and I aren’t stuffy people. Having a nighttime extravagant affair just wasn’t us. We are fun-loving and casual…and love to spend our weekends being social together with friends and family. That’s how we landed on the idea of doing an elegant brunch. Rather than spending the entire day apart, having our ceremony at 10 am allowed us to spend the most important day of our lives together and with the ones we love.

Being that our reception was held in early afternoon in a family friend’s backyard, I decided to go for a short dress. I searched and searched both bridal salons and off the rack and found only reception dresses (short, beaded, fancy frocks…not what I was looking for). I realized I may need to think outside the box a bit and when I saw the pale blue Oscar de la Renta, I knew that would be perfect. It really became the backdrop for the entire theme of the wedding. We stuck to various shades of blue, pink, and orange from our invitations and signage to our flowers. One of my favorite finds was the cobalt blue cake stands that we found at Archive Vintage. They elevated the floral centerpieces and added a bold pop of color to every table!

Sailboat Engagement Session in Miami

We are holding onto summer as long as possible in New England, but I’m afraid it is officially feeling Fall-ified around these parts. So what better way to revisit those endless summer days then with this sunny sailboat session captured by Melanie Gabrielle. And you’ll love the engagement story as told by the sweet Groom. He’s a keeper, that one. Have a look here for even more.

From the groom… After spending 5 and a half years with Kayla I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Being a lawyer, I thought it would be clever to, “subpoena” Kayla to spend the weekend with me. On Friday night I took her to dinner, where we shared a perfect night in each other’s company. We had dinner at a local restaurant and we walked under the giant Christmas tree. Of course, Kayla was aware that something special was soon to happen. While I had the engagement ring, I had planned to pop the question the next morning. I had a special, more intimate, date planned for the love of my life. As Friday night’s date had come and gone I knew that Saturday would be a day neither of us would ever forget.

I arranged for a boat, complete with our own personal captain, to take the two of us out on the Intracoastal waterway. I packed a picnic basket complete with wine and snacks. The captain took us on a tour of the Intracoastal, which led to our ultimate destination, a secluded beach on the north end of the waterway. Now it was slightly rainy and overcast that day, which actually worked to my advantage. Due to the weather, the beach was empty. When we walked over the dunes to the ocean side of the beach, we saw that we had what was essentially our own private island all to ourselves. There could not be a more perfect setting for what would be one of the best moments in both our lives. I laid out the blanket and we had some snacks before I asked Kayla to take a walk on the beach. It was right there, on that private beach, where I got down on one knee and asked Kayla, the absolute love of my life, to spend the rest of her life with me. Luckily, she said yes!

From Two Times PhotographyThis Spring wedding was set at a ranch in Wimberley, TX. The family of the bride and groom, the bridesmaids, and the groomsmen all stayed on site throughout the weekend. The rustic and homey feel of Red Corral Ranch made it a comfortable and inviting event! Grey, peach, and yellow were prevalent throughout the event – as was burlap! From the overcast sky to the lights hanging in the barn, Brandi and Colton’s wedding was romantic. With a photo booth, a game of “cornhole”, and lots of dancing, this wedding was fun for everyone involved! The love that Brandi, Colton, and their families share made this such a joyous weekend!

Elegant Punta Cana Wedding at Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe Hotel

This couple took their destination wedding, sprinkled in a whole lot of romance and covered it in a beautiful pink hue – leaving us with a wedding so gorgeous we could spend our entire day getting lost in Jen + Ashley‘s images. Planned and hosted by the gorgeous Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe Hotel, Punta Cana, we pretty much love every image sitting in this gallery.

From Jen + AshleyWe are SO excited to send over this elegant and chic, garden destination wedding! Kim + Clark both live in Chicago, but wanted their wedding to be a celebration not only for them, but for their closest friends and family in a tropical paradise to give all of their guests a chance to step back from the hustle and bustle of city life. With fun activities planned all week, including a catamaran voyage with fresh coconut drinks and dinner served on the sea, they truly wanted their guests to be able to experience all that the gorgeous Punta Cana has to offer. Not wanting their destination wedding to be too “beachy”, they opted for a gorgeous, intimate garden setting on the grounds of the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe hotel, with swaying palm trees and wild peacocks roaming during their heartfelt and sweet ceremony. With their open-air reception space draped in perfect white linens, a whimsical ombre cake, and just the right amount of pink spread around the room, the setting tied in perfectly to the lush gardens that surrounded the venue.

Romantic Ballroom St. Louis Wedding

Complete with roses and hydrangeas in the summeriest of shades, it’s safe to say the fiercely talented Belli Fiori knocked this one out of the park. She put together every gorgeous floral moment, and thanks to Cary Klein, we get it swoon it all for ourselves. Have a look in the gallery and don’t miss the video from Analogue Films!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/104789882 600 338]

From The Bride…Ben and I met at a mutual friend’s 21st birthday party in St. Louis during the summer of 2009. Although we didn’t meet until 21, we’ve had mutual friends since the age of 13. We grew up just 2 minutes from each other in St. Louis, and my best friends from high school were his best friends from grade school. Same goes for college—I knew all of his friends, he knew all of mine, but we didn’t know each other. It was almost like there was some reason we weren’t supposed to meet until we did.

Forest Park is truly one of the most beautiful places in St. Louis and somewhere we love to spend leisurely Saturday mornings, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get married at the historic World’s Fair Pavilion. Clean lines, candlelight and the most amazing trio of floral arrangements provided by Belli Fiori for our reception at the Palladium brought to life the “modern elegance with a hint of romance” that I had been dreaming about for years. The beautiful stationery helped set the stage from the very beginning, and was all designed by one of the bridesmaids. We DIY’d the table numbers to add a pop of color and coordinate with the coral ribbon on our cake.

It was important for our wedding to feel personal, very us, and a glimpse into who we are as a couple. We love to entertain and are considered the “party planners” of our group, so everyone was expecting our wedding to be the social event of the season. Talk about pressure! The day was filled with details of our life together. We love to travel and Ben had originally planned to propose on a hot air balloon (thanks, “high winds”), so that inspired our hot air balloon/world map guest book. The cigar bar was a nod to Ben and one of his favorite weekend activities. I love sparking wine, so instead of an expertly crafted signature drink we were very excited to pass flutes of Cava during our cocktail hour. Ben said he wanted to look like James Bond in Casino Royale, and I think we accomplished that goal too!

We also wanted to celebrate our friends and family and the relationships that have made us who we are today. Our toasting flutes were an engagement gift from a bridesmaid, one of my best friends and my roommate all through college. The homemade limoncello favors were most certainly a labor of love! Our best man and a groomsman helped us peel 160 lemons for this magical liqueur, made to honor our four Italian friends that traveled across the pond from Italy and Finland to be a part of our special day. The ceremony was officiated by my uncle and written by the three of us. One of our favorites parts of that ceremony was the wine box unity ritual. Many of our family outings revolve around wine! We asked both sets of parents to add a note and bottle of wine to the box to be opened on our first and fifth wedding anniversaries, and Ben and I wrote notes to each other and included a bottle of wine to be opened on our tenth anniversary. My dress and accessories also had a few special touches. My mom surprised me with earrings made out of diamonds from my late grandmother’s tennis bracelet, and also cut a small piece of her wedding dress to pin inside my dress next to my heart. I wore family wedding bracelets down the aisle that have been worn by generations of brides on my mom’s side, including my sister just 7 months prior to our wedding day.

The day ended with one big party! I’ve honestly never seen more people dance at a wedding, which is probably due to the fact that Ben and I are usually the first people out on the dance floor at any and all weddings we attend. Obviously we’d expect all of our guests to follow suit! It was truly a day of celebrations—between myself and Ben, and between us and our favorite people in the world.

Apple Cinnamon Bread

I enjoy incorporating the flavors of fall into my recipes, especially when they can be found in our own backyard. We recently moved to a home that hosts 3 large apple trees, which we share with the local deer. We have an abundance of apples, so I’ve been getting creative with ways we can use them!

I adapted my favorite no yeast bread recipe for a flavorful fall breakfast & dessert bread. If you’re a fan of the one for you & one for me philosophy, you’ll love this recipe! It yields 6 mini loaves, great for gifting, freezing & indulging!

Brooklyn Urban Garden Wedding

When Loli Events and Blossom and Branch join creative forces, good things happen. REALLY good things. They’re the pretty makers behind this rainy day Brooklyn wedding and the photos by Khaki Bedford are all the proof we need. Settle in with your cup o’ joe and prepare for an urban garden affair done right.

From Khaki Bedford PhotographyAdam Gerber, an Architectural Engineer, and Dana Friedman, a Non-profit Grant Writer, got ready at one of my favorite venues, The Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was on the verge of torrential downpour when we headed outside to do the First Look and just as we stepped out it started pouring. It was a blessing in disguise as we ended up using the hotel room instead, which resulted in some of my favorite photos of the day! One of my favorite moments was during the First Look. Dana waited for Adam in her room, while looking out the window towards the Manhattan skyline, Adam crept in and they held hands back to back long enough for me to get “the shot.” They were so excited and it was such a lovely moment. You could tell how in love they are and they didn’t let the terrible weather ruin an ounce of their excitement for one another!

After getting ready at the Wythe Hotel, Dana and Adam walked to the eclectic Jungle Design garden for the ceremony. I love how the photos go from neutral blues and whites of the hotel to an explosion of color and greenery! The ceremony was short and sweet and then they all headed back to the Wythe Hotel for an amazing dinner at Reynard, toasts, and dancing!

Ohio Engagement Hike at Hocking Hills

Engagement sessions make my heart melt. I love to see a couple on the verge of their great adventure, and this shoot from J. Hannah Photography is such a fabulous example of why. No props are needed when there is a love like this, just two people totally in love, ready to take on the world. See even more here.

From  J. Hannah PhotographyPlease enjoy this beautiful, nature, engagement session with my clients Susan and Luke. Hocking Hills State Park is in the south-east portion of Ohio and has a ton of hiking trails and caves. Luke proposed to his high school sweetheart, Susan, around the most famous area, Old Man’s Cave. That particular area was roped off the day Luke proposed and the day of the session, but we were rebels and headed to that section anyways! We spent the day hiking around the beautiful park and capturing some great shots. My favorite photos are by the waterfall which we discovered by taking a trail we had not seen before. My favorite candid moment was when Luke helped Susan keep her balance as she walked on a stone barrier, so she didn’t have to walk through the mud.

Romantic Florida Wedding at Breakers West

Romantic weddings and Breakers West just seem to go hand in hand. They never fail to make us swoon, and when13:13 Photography is behind the lens capturing that romance, magic happens. It leaves us with a gallery too pretty to miss, and you can see it all here.

From the Bride…We have been together for over 5 years, and we wanted our wedding to reflect both our own taste for simplicity and to highlight our camaraderie and relationships with our family and friends. Since we are both Caribbean immigrants (Belize, and Trinidad and Tobago) – we also wanted to bring a taste of both our cultures to the event.

From the start we ensured that the events of the weekend would be personal and memorable to us. Stefan’s uncle catered the rehearsal dinner with a range of Trinidadian curries, stews and other dishes local to the island. The ceremony itself was officiated by the mother of one of our close friends. Wedding favors were prepared by our mothers (decorative wooden bowls using native Belizean trees and traditional Trinidadian black cake and Indo-Trinidadian sweets). We asked one of our invited friends to be the official master of ceremonies for the reception.

For music we hired Suenalo, a popular latin fusion band from Miami, who offered the perfect blend of dance and atmosphere that we felt would appeal to the diverse nationalities that made up our guest list – we also felt it was an homage to the region that we have called home for the past decade.

Our choice for photography and videography was also done with friends in mind. 1313 Photography was hired as a referral from one of our friends, whose wedding was also done by Ashley and Philip. Our videographer, Hitched Wedding Films, was similarly recommended.  Lina Portnoy did our flowers and came recommended by our venue but quickly felt like someone we had known for ages.

After all the planning and prepping we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! From getting ready with my mom and sister, my rockstar nephews making the ceremony and dancing the night away with all my favorite people in the world.
